Don't waste your money.
The environments are good fun (though I challenge the Steam page describing them as 'puzzle environments'), the retro art style is something, and at least the game is short. Otherwise there is nothing to commend.
The script is full of grammatical errors, and is voiced by AI, and not very well I might add. The shooting is very run of the mill. The enemies are unbelievably stupid. There are no savepoints or real checkpoints - if you die you just get put back at the start of the room with full health and the same guns/ammo you died with, and any enemies you killed are still dead. And, for a comedy game, I can't say it made me laugh, something likely caused by the AI voice actors. At least the developer is clear about its use of AI on the badly-written Steam page, and they have recently stated that all but the MC are going to get proper voice acting. Since the MC has over 50% of the lines however, I don't think this will change my opinion on the game.
The entire appeal of this game lies in its 'wacky' concept, but that is both the start and end of its originality.
This game is so Stupid and Dumb and I love it. It reminds me kinda Postal guy if he was older and goat sim in a way but my only complaint it that i wish it was longer. just Grandsons hoe of a Gf Vagina.

I came in expecting a typical crappy steam shooter with a dumb premise, but was actually pleasantly surprised by the games charm and fun gunplay! I'd recommend this game to anyone looking for a couple hours to kill :)

Fun game, love the retro vibe of the game and the gameplay overall. It´s a short game with the dlc i already played it through by 1,5 hours, but other than that a great game. Would love to see some more like this game fun concept and humor.

I like this game. The story isn't super deep or anything like that, the writing is light shock humor and I think it works with the style and playtime of the game well. It took me a little under 2 hours to beat it and the first DLC. The dev is still working on the game and started this project solo, now a 5 dev team it seems.
There are a few things I would suggest that would bring the game from good to great in my opinion.
[b] Shotgun rework: [/b] The first thing is the shotgun. I think classic doom is a good example of how a shotgun can be done well. Doom has a shotgun that does well mid to long range and, while having bullet spread, it only becomes really noticeable at very long ranges. Grandpa currently has a very low range shotgun, and beyond a certain distance, ~10 feet, the shotgun drops off completely and does 0 damage. A shotgun rework would do a lot for the gunplay of this game and make it much more fun.
[b] Control remapping: [/b] Right now, the game comes with a default set of controls that you cannot rebind. The ability to rebind what button does what action would do a lot for this game, and hypothetically should be an easy addition to the game.
[b] Steam Achievements: [/b] Having steam achievements adds good replayability to your game, too. Even just some achievements for beating each chapter would be nice!
[b] Level design: [/b] As someone who has been a hobbyist level designer for the better part of a decade, I noticed some things while playing this game. It's serviceable, but I definitely see ways it could be expanded upon for the better. For instance, there were many areas where rocks or crates were stacked up in such ways that I thought that I could get to a secret area for a reward or something, only to be met with an invisible barrier. I think that going back and adding little stashes to areas like this would do a lot for the fun and replay factor, even opening up potential for the addition of things like easter eggs, which are fun and I could see this game having potential for some really funny ones.
[b] Level Editor: [/b] Adding to the level design point, a level editor and workshop support could turn this game from a sub two hour experience to well over that with user-created content. You could even add support to add new TTS lines like in the game right now, script sequences, show text on screen when touching certain triggers, import new texture assets, and who knows what else. The possibilities are limitless.
[b] Multiplayer Deathmatch: [/b] Just for funsies.
Overall, I think Grandpa: High on Retro is a pretty good game. It reminds me of the games me and my high-school buddies used to joke of making. I think with just a bit more work, it could be near perfect for what it is.
Honestly I had a great time playing this one. However, I think the voicelines need some tweaking, and moving your character around feels like it has a little bit of input lag.
Enemies don't really have variety. The feds were all the same model no voices or noises.
I really liked the game, these are really my only things to note!

It gives me the feels of the ps one back in the day or even the N64. It is a great little game that is not made for children lmfao but it is so funny. I do not regret buying this game, plus the DLC is free so how can you go wrong with that.
The game is short, but it is well worth the price if free DLCs keep coming out.
I thought It was pretty good. A game that would definitely be fun to play while high. I feel like you can't complain about it because it's pretty cut and dry. The trailer is pretty revealing. It shows the kind of vibe the game has to offer. I feel like 8 bucks is a fairly reasonable price. The game is pretty short. I saw the trailer for the 2nd dlc and it looks like things have been stepped up a notch. The graphics look night and day. I think the premise is quite intriguing as well.

GREAT GAME
I get this game is supposed to be a joke, but it's just trash, the ads on social media were funny, but the game itself sucked. The gameplay mechanics suck, most of the guns feel jank af besides the pistol, shotgun is only good when running gunning.
Some of the levels are too long. The first level and the forest just felt like you were going through a maze trying to find where to go.
I liked how the DLC was shorter, but they could've added a boss type fight in. The virus in the DLC were stronger and harder to beat, but the fact you're not punished for dying made the game too easy, so at that point you just use the knife, otherwise you run out of bullets.
I hated the fact there was no real progression, once you get to the next chapter, you lose all your weapons, so you could literally run and gun the whole time while skipping a lot of enemies. The robots seemed pointless because of the fact you couldn't kill them.
There's not enough dialogue while playing the game, most of it just running around trying to find where to go.
I would've preferred the levels be much shorter and less boring.
I would spend $50 on this game

the game is just gutless, theres so many little things that could have been added to make the game better. like more dialog during gameplay. a longer main story, a shotgun that actually shoots like a shotgun, more quotes when picking items, npc dialog... the list goes on.
its such a shame, because the trailers where so well put together, the premise and idea of the game are great. but its just too boring in reality to play, repetative and short.

This game is a really simple and fun shooter. headshots are satisfying and the dialogue is funny. Its fun and easy and and a good quick game.
I really liked this game, it’s fun especially as a little indie game. Super funny if you like the idea of raunchy humor which I do lol. You can tell the dev has his strong points and his weak points. There’s some broken textures, slow reloads, the enemy ai in the first two chapters definitely react a lot slower than the enemies of the second 2 and the DLC. It’s super fun even with some of the issues it has. One thing I do not like.. if I’m killed by an enemy ESPECIALLY one with a shotgun and I’m continuously responding right in front of him without a weapon immediately loaded and available, it gets reeeeal irritating since one shot your down and two your dead haha, this made me so angry but it still didn’t stop me from having fun and being upset that the whole thing only took about 2 hours or so to finish.

Just wanted to add that the melee combat sucks ass and should be avoided at all costs, no hate on the dev though, just something that itched me the wrong by way. Still love the game

The game seems fun I was only able to play a bit of it as I kept getting stuck on things that were not there and had to restart the level 3 times then wasd would not work but I was able to jump and shoot so I don't recommend at this time

overhyped buggy mess might be funny at times but not even really worth the 8 bucks go buy anything else. combat is underwhelming and janky and missing a lot of qol features that make it almost unplayable with the bugs.

This one will offend some and give others the sense of being just right. While not being politically correct it will give you an old school vibe. It is kind of short, so be conscious of that. As an old man I was able to beat this under two hours. The AI voices add to the goofiness imo but if the dev's what some proper localization, hit me up, I would absolutely do it for free.
