This is a really unique farming/RPG game and a lot of classic things are different. I really like it and find it interesting, but a warning. Without spoiling anything the game has quite a few dark themes of all kinds. So do have that in mind if you decide to get it. But in general I highly recommend it!

This is the closest we'll ever get to a Twin Peaks video game, I'm convinced, lol. I absolutely LOVE it. There's a few things I think people need to know going in, however:

[h3]This game does not tell you what to do.[/h3]
[h3]This game is very old school, in a good way.[/h3]
[h3]This game is SLOW- you cannot rush it.[/h3]
[h3]There are blue flowers that only sprout after 21:00 hours. Pick them, and they make GREAT early gifts.[/h3]

There are things hidden in Gleaner Heights, but to find these things out, you need to befriend the people. This is not something you'll complete in Spring of year one; events take time to unfold, but that's fine, because this is a [b]farming game[/b]. Try not to forget that you're here to farm! You have a LOT to do while waiting for all the secrets to unfold! Plant crops, fish, mine, upgrade your farm, clean it up, build up your skills, fight monsters. DO THINGS.

Befriending people will unlock information, clues about who you need to befriend next, and slowly unravel the events surrounding the town. You need to actually explore, as well; there is no journal with quests to tell you where to go, who to talk to, what to do next. The world is your oyster. You can stick your head in the sand and just farm till the end of the world, or you can put the work in to sniff out the insanity that's happening in Gleaner Heights.

And boy, is it insane. And dark. Be ready for some VERY adult themes; this is not Harvest Moon. Don't let your 8 year old play this, lol. There's murder, dr*gs, and other very adult topics.

Also your character has a SIN metric, and I'll just say this now, [i]not all of the marriage candidates are available right away[/i]. Guess you'll just have to figure out why.

Holy fidget spinners, I am trying so hard to get into this game. I want to get far enough to find out about the story, which may be the only hook it has. The problem is the game is just. So. Boring. It has all the burdening elements of an early 90s farm sim with none of the creative, fun, or engaging qualities. The map is needlessly large but has limited to no interactions or foraging, making plodding from point A to point B a grueling experience even with permanent run toggled on. The controls are clunky. The characters have limited dialogue interactions. There is nothing that GRABS me about it. I have to force myself to try playing just with the hope that something interesting lies ahead. Compared to stronger titles in the genre (Grimshire, Coral Island, or the GOAT Stardew Valley) or even the classics like the OG Harvest Moon, Gleaner Heights is such a weak entry as to feel like a waste of time when I could be playing a game I enjoy right from the get go.

Muito bom, um dos melhores do gênero no mercado atualmente, a pixel-art e a gameplay resgatam bem a vibe do primeiro Harvest Moon lá de SNES, utiliza bem os elementos de RPG apresentados em Rune Factory (e popularizado por Stardew Valley), além dos elementos próprios como a história, que trata de assuntos mais sérios do que o normal quando se trata desse tipo de jogo. Recomendo bastante.

Ich denke der Grundgedanke des Spiels ist super, allerdings recht langweilig umgesetzt. Es zieht sich sehr und man bekommt keinerlei Hinweise, was man machen soll. An sich ist es nicht schlimm, wenn es keinen roten Faden gibt, allerdings läuft man doch recht planlos durch die Gegend und es passiert einfach nichts in dem Spiel, zumindest soweit ich gekommen bin.
Es gibt nichts, auf das man hin arbeitet und die Dialoge der NPCs wiederholen sich größtenteils, sodass man nichts über sie erfährt.
Die Steuerung ist gewöhnungsbedürftig, ich persönlich finde es mit Controller wesentlich einfacher.
Als Fan des Genres kann ich das Spiel leider nicht empfehlen, da alleine das Farming in diesem Spiel nicht gut umgesetzt ist.
Positiv ist aber auf jeden Fall die Grafik und die Umsetzung des mysteriösen Vibes, es ist visuell sehr süß.

Controls were really rough. I'm a big fan of farming sims as well as horror content, so I was really hoping I'd get to see some of that. The keyboard controls are extremly difficult to get a feel for and with so little happening in the almost 6 hours I played, I really couldn't get an idea what I was really working towards along with just having a general difficult time with navigation to the point it was frustrating and had to drop it.

This game is different and at first seems very boring or like its not very complex or fun. But if you stick it out and keep playing it becomes very fun and it starts opening up into a very great game that is hard to walk away from. My only problem with it is that perk menu crash. It really sucks and makes leveling up a bad thing for me.

TLDR; If you like Stardew, and Twin Peaks, and are willing to give a small dev a chance, this is the game for you. Few bugs, but alot of love has gone into this and you really feel it.

There are few games that just get the right vibes of the media that inspired them. Gleaner Heights almost feels uncompromising on its goal to get Harvest Moon/Stardew as the setting to have a Twin Peaks/Deadly Premonition inspired adventure.
The drama is always there, but it's varied. It's casual small town drama, and then you uncover something far more significant and deeper. What makes Gleaner Heights good, is that it carries both of these with equal love. Nothing in the game feels like it was added so you find out about the mystery. The characters have depth, you want to know more. Their stories feel just as important, as the bigger plot, and that's what few Twin Peaks inspired works realize.
The music is ok. It's not the best but it gets the job done. Your probably not going to be humming it in the shower 20 years later like HM on the SNES, but if you leave it on, your probably going to enjoy it.

Overall if you like Stardew, this is a less polished take on that with a world of mystery to explore, and a town full of people that you love and hate (and love to hate). For a indie game, this is a fantastic work that should be tried. I beat the first season on the Switch, and I am comming back (and will update) when I beat the DLC on Steam.

I have loved farming sims since I was a kid playing N64 Harvest Moon. I loved the secrets and puzzles and magical elements. Gleaner Heights had all of that as well! It probably helps that I also love Twin Peaks! The combat is not super hard, especially the bosses, and it has an old school feel, but that isn't the big draw for a farming sim in my opinion. There are plenty of games out there that are for that. A magical themed farming sim is for the story, and the immersion, and the cozy.

I can appreciate what you're trying to do... and i like the drive to make a darker gritter stardew but...
here is a collective list of everything you need to fix dude.

*The controls are absolute dog-sh*t:
It took me 30 minutes, a veteran of farming sims with more than my fair share of hours in farming sims to figure out how to even plant the first plant. The controls are awkward and make zero since, literally just copy and paste harvest moon or Stardew valley.
it's just like how before call of duty noone had any clue on how to make a first person shooters controls - Call of duty revolutionized that sh!t. diverging from that path is considered a sin because then it's harder to enjoy the contents of the game due to having to relearn an entire ♥♥♥♥ control scheme all over again.

dark and gritty doesn't mean boring and bland you can make something dark and gritty and also have a personality.

example: Don't starve together, Everything ever made by Tim Burton, tons of classic horror movies ranging from Alfred Hitchcock to ... well hell to be honest i'd argue even Jason has more emotional depth than most of your NPCs

to be entirely honest with you I could have forgave everything else and would have just kept playing if the controls wasn't so absolutely dogsh*t. also your configure controls menu is bugged beyond all belief.

Believe me, I tried so hard to like this game, but the game is painfully boring and unfulfilling. While the concept sounded promising—a farming game with creepy secrets and mysteries—the presentation is dreadful. I had high hopes and bought it merely because of its intriguing premise. However, this doesn't mean that the developers can let everything else fall by the wayside.

Yes, the story of this game includes rape, sexual cheating, paedophilia, blackmail, various forms of violence, and suicide. But these aren't presented directly.

There is no tutorial or guidance. You're left completely in the dark about what to do. No one points you to where the story progresses. You need to spend the first 5-6 hours of this game planting, mining, greeting people, and talking to them. It's just too tedious, too slow, and too repetitive.

This game is simply bad on every level. While I enjoyed it, it's frankly just a poor Harvest Moon clone with a plot blatantly ripped off from Twin Peaks.

The developer clearly hasn't played not only Stardew Valley, but any single good game on PC, because the PC controls are abysmal. For example, you can't even enter your character's name from a keyboard; you have to click each individual letter with a mouse.

I love Stardew Valley, but I won't compare Gleaner Heights with SV.
Gleaner Heights is a slower-paced farming game, it has a more a darker approach to the story and gameplay depth is more simpler.

This game meat is it has so much mystery to be found, I find the progression quite enjoyable after getting used to the slow pace.
I like that even though this game doesn't have any portraits the villager dialogue is very expressive, they're all has their own [spoiler] Serious [/spoiler] problem, It's quite easy remembering them even without any portrait.

My only downside for this game so far is this game bit buggy, but it's not that bad if you find the workaround.

I think kids that keep comparing this game to SV need to chill. You guys need to play the game from different viewpoint and stop comparing any farming game with SV.
Also complaining the game is slow is just silly, kids these days just lack patience I tell you..

This game honestly needs more love because I can see how much love the developer poured into it.
I hope I will see another farming game like this from the same developer someday.

The plot of this game is good, BUT

I've been playing for many hours, yes, I know. I'm kind of tenacious. Did I get a good value for my money? Absolutely not. This game IS slow.
Many of those hours are games started and deleted to start from scratch, because due to the absence of guides, or hints in the game itself, being time gated, at a certain point you realize that you have missed an important or even essential event, and if you don't delete and start anew, you'll not get “that”, nor advance in “whatever”.
The dark atmosphere and the plot are good. Kind of thriller. Awaken your curiosity. You would love to see how it all ends. And suddenly you fall flat on your face over the controls and the crashes.
The content of the “base game” works a little not so bad. But when you get to the events of the DLC, oh boy, the gameplay is torture.
The controls are horrible, really bad, awkward and stiff. The hit boxes are crazy random. From combat, to harvesting, say, some potatoes. It's a painful struggle.
The cursor disappears over and over.
When the cursor disappears, the only thing you can do is move your character and talk to NPCs. You cannot interact with any object. In a game that is 90% interacting with objects and inventories. The only way to fix this that I have found so far, is quit and reopen. Almost like a crash, although you can save, if it's worth it. If not, repeat the day. Up to you. The controls should work for half an hour or so (real time). Then, rinse and repeat. Super great for immersion, as you might guess. I've read comments from people addressing this issue since 2018. 2024 and here we are.
This game only saves when you finish ALL THE WORK FOR THE DAY and go to sleep. BUT over and over, it crashes. If you are lucky and the day was not very advanced, then repeat everything (yes, again). If you were on your way home to call it a day, it's infuriating. Especially after the first twenty times it happens to you.
The graphics are rudimentary and quite ugly. If you want to play with a female character keep in mind this: No matter what, she will always have an angry face and a beard shade.
Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on this headache.

现在有官方中文了，玩起来舒服多了。游戏本身指引很少，可以改键位，自带的游戏攻略要读清楚。摸索清楚后玩起来还是挺好玩的。
可以种地，钓鱼，战斗，下矿，做饭，赚钱，换装，攻略npc，探索隐藏黑暗剧情。开局的谜语人暗示着平静的表象下隐藏着邪恶（但是剧情也就那样，没多带劲）。npc好感度是推动剧情的重要部分，但不是所有人都很重要。你的下一款星露谷又何必是星露谷。没有特别优秀，但总体不错，没什么bug，值得一玩的小游戏。

下面是一点攻略，或者说是经验心得。（包含剧透！！！）

开局职业相差不大，建议选择会计职业，赚钱快一点点。开局的提示有翻页，认真看完。
开局先种地，春天买生菜，夏天买草莓（若刷到商店老板1星开启了西瓜种子则买西瓜），秋天买菠菜，冬天忘了。除了放种子必须要体力，锄地浇水可以透支体力。吃东西会回体力，透支了体力没法恢复，走路速度变慢，第二天起床初始体力减半。有了机器人后大部分浇水可以省略，升级水壶蓄力浇水更轻松。
同时去地图上方密林收集体力草药（共5枚），有多余体力就下矿，需要有体力才有收获。3层找找会有老鼠，使用后直返地面，要深入就存一个在身上。矿石可以卖。铜，金，锡可以升级工具。
建议先升级锤子（5000r，1铜）（矿洞内锤墙概率获得，狩猎场西南角宝箱内有1铜）（可以砸石头、打怪），然后下矿，上下楼梯sl刷好走的楼梯，到20层，找到直返梯子，在20＋层刷金子，升3级金锤子，然后升级斧头，也要3级，可以砍树桩子，实现采石头、木头自由，开始大量刷npc好感。接着考虑升级水壶，镰刀，鱼竿。锄头、弓箭作用不大。工具都能打怪，升级后可以蓄力打。
日常活动（主要是使用工具）可以获得经验，升级后，可以在入睡后选择升级技能。经验总量有限，不要什么技能都点。
装备不多，基本是开宝箱给的，有一些属性加成，可以改变外观，算是时装装备二合一。
npc各有喜恶。给了护符后可以追踪npc的位置，刷好感可以解锁新道具、获得剧情线索等，大部分npc前期刷好感可以送石头木头，但要注意有人讨厌：
讨厌石头：玛蒂尔达，彭妮，艾丽丝，瓦伦蒂娜
讨厌木头：玛蒂尔达，肯，李
打败40层boss后有楼梯可以直接返回地面，在39层利用机器人怪物的炸弹的延迟性，拿起来再丢出去炸矿，刷珍贵宝石卖钱。（钻石、红宝石、火蛋白石、翡翠、黄金）
解锁了蘑菇山洞可以种蘑菇，由亚当好感事件获得规则是：
每个蘑菇周围保持2-3个蘑菇，少了不长新的，多了蘑菇就没了。可以大量种蘑菇（把灰蘑菇放山洞地上就行）赚钱，但是要每天收，很麻烦我不喜欢。

男号只能和女的结婚，女号只能和男的结婚。但是我没发现结婚有什么好处。各有一个隐藏可攻略角色，由好感剧情做完任务后解锁。
摸索出的npc喜好：
丹尼：（神父家人）（水井下的剑，给一个衣服；古墓日记，boss战，他成为恶魔）
亚当：苹果蘑菇，啤酒花（小男孩）（生日秋季3号）
伯纳黛特：定时花<晚上9点后开花>（大农场女主人，卖动物，镇长好感3星可打折）
克拉伦斯：（丧女夫妻）
军：银子（商店老板）（3星商品打折）（生日春季22号）

机器人：五星事件。开启自动化，浇水小助手。越早拿到越好。
锤子砸开工作台（水池上方房间）右边有裂纹的地板，跟随机器人往农场左边的狩猎场山洞，前期来说小难，里面怪物较多boss较厉害，建议装备、药品、武器准备好，注意走位躲伤害。最好先提一下锤子武器的等级。（注意：没体力无法攻击！！！）
弓箭比赛：三星事件。送弓箭。但是本游戏打怪几乎不需要弓箭，4级锤子打天下。
修理码头：五星事件。开启航海。开启潜水的前置事件。
晚上去镇长家，花费1w。左侧瀑布内有隐藏山洞，两个宝箱。右侧深山一个宝箱，前期优秀装备。
商店打折：三星事件。省一点点钱，蚊子腿也是肉。
商店老板好感刷满，商店9折；镇长好感刷满，农场9折。
背包拓展：五星事件。增加背包和道具容积。
升级后选择技能囤积者+2，商店4000r（折前）+4，10000r（折前）+4，商店老板女儿梅好感3星＋2 。
潜水装备：四星事件。开启潜水。
铁匠孙子肯好感3星，给图纸自己做。需要开船，从船上点交互键下海。可以摸海底宝箱，摸珍珠。珍珠卖钱，戒指给医生。海底消耗氧气、体力，不消耗时间。
各种山洞：打boss，解锁秘密内容，解锁道路。
大石头要4级锤子，木桩要4级斧子。机器人山洞在制造房裂口地板处，用锤子砸开，前期升级装备小心走位即可通过。
最先狩猎场东南木桩地洞，用水壶取毒水，下方水池内有特殊鱼种。
狩猎场西北野猪林山洞，用毒水阻止史莱姆王回血。
教堂下方山洞，用毒水消灭拦路藤蔓，走廊中间墙壁可打破，深处棺材内日记可以给尼尔。
旅馆后方山顶密林，炸药炸开塌方山石，炸药配方流浪汉3星给与，特别注意：制作材料需要花生。
相片事件：用密码纸打开旅馆保险箱获得相片。
送镇长，获得1暗影梅1蓝锡；送其他人，加1罪恶。
藏宝图：亚当2星好感获得藏宝图。
地点在狩猎场，上楼梯左边空地，野猪和植物怪左边，飞虫上方。对照藏宝图用锄头挖出宝箱获得钱。
魔化丹尼：
把日记给丹尼，邀请你午夜12点去教堂左下方空地。剧情后Boss战，丹尼剧情杀。自动回家睡觉。
（冬天演员三星好感给一个“完美的球体”，描述可以避免黑暗侵蚀。合理怀疑带着这个或者送给丹尼可以避免剧情杀。做这个剧情时还没到冬天没试过。）
神秘的石头：击败魔化丹尼后获得。早上醒来自动掉在早上吃早饭的地板上要记得捡。
丹尼在餐馆时会把玩，会提到，但不给你。送给每个村民的对话都不一样，不会消失。和演员对话获得提示。
炸开山顶洞穴后，带着可以在山洞内部右上墙壁发现隐藏洞口。按交互键开门。
地底魔潭：

So here we go with another stardew clone farming RPG, on the outside it kind of looks like stardew Valley and plays a lot like it but once you delve deeper into it you'll notice that the game has its own dark charm to it, you do all the farming and upkeep you would expect to do from a stardew Valley type game, but I do think that this one here stands out as a different game just due to the unique theme it has, Graphics are done real well the music is tolerable and not the best but not bad, gameplay is excellent it is a very fun game to play with plenty to do definitely something I would pick up if the price is right even for the asking price it's a good buy.

It's hard not to say too much about this game though. Let's just say that it's definitely a weird game, with inspirations that are as subtle as a mobile crane. But since I like David Lynch, I'm not gonna complain. It'd just be better if it was a bit more, ahem, *hidden*

This game is definitely creepy and worth it if you're looking to be disturbed! I admire how they mixed some of the most terrible subjects with what's recognized as the coziest game genre.

This is a really solid farming game with interesting characters, a fantastic atmosphere and some of the darker stories found in the genre. The farming, crafting, fishing and other activities are quite addictive. The only part that feels a little awkward (or I'm just bad at it) is the combat, as I feel like I'm usually flailing around.

The artistic graphics are seriously good. If you like the classic Harvest Moon games like Friends of Mineral Town, you'll certainly enjoy exploring this world. The music does the game justice and I really like the subtle unnerving twangs of sound that accompany each day.

If you like farming games, I definitely recommend giving this a go, especially if you like a more serious and darker world. It's a breath of fresh air in a genre full of titles with more of a twee feel to them.

It's hard to say how to recommend this game. I guess one thing is that you shouldn't underestimate the regular farming lifestyle aspect, as it is where you will be spending the vast majority of your time, so you'd better grow accustomed to it. But the times where the game goes off the rails, they're some of the most grabbed by a game I've been in a long long time, particularly much later on when it gets to into the season 2 dlc.

I would say that you really shouldn't worry about minmaxing your farm routine, like I did. You'll only end up getting quite burned out, and some of the most significant events become available later on in the game so if you drag it out too long you'll just be too exhausted to continue. Just enjoy it, get into that role and settle into life with the rest of the town. I know that even though I may have had an attitude that did not do me any favours, I got really familiar with my place in the town, and in some way the getting used to it and peaceful mundanity made the wild mind-blowing stuff all the more amazing. The initial side ocurrances did not make me stagger, but the more I went along, and especially with the dlc, I went on one hell of a journey, it was something special, and though I had a very weird and sometimes mixed relationship with the game, in the long run it holistically made this one of my favourite games I've played. I don't know what your experience with it would be, as I have very eccentric tastes, but there is something here for those happy to put in their time and enjoy a relaxed life in Gleaner Heights.

P.S. very light spoilers, but here's two small things I wish I had known about when I played: [spoiler]1. The plant enemy can drop peanuts, and 2. no matter your outlook, it's good to open the safe, so when you get given the chance take it.[/spoiler]

Ce jeu ressemble en quelques points à Stardew Valley, bien que certaines fonctionnalités et certains contenus lui soient propres. J’aime bien le jeu en général, mais je trouve dommage qu’il n’y ait pas d’indices ni de tutoriels quelconques comparativement à SV où le jeu nous prend par la main de a à z. PRÉSENCE DE SPOILS ATTENTION !

Dans ce jeu, la meilleure façon de se faire de l’argent est impérativement la mine. Il y a quelques wikis qui peuvent te guider heureusement même s’il manque largement de walkthrough sur internet. Par exemple, je recommande fortement d’augmenter la compétence d’inventaire qui augmente de 2 cases l’inventaire du jeu ainsi que d’aller acheter l’augmentation du sac au magasin dès que possible ! Enfin, augmenter le plus tôt possible son marteau, bien évidemment afin de faciliter le farming de la mine. D’autre part, il faut définitivement se rendre à l’étage 20 pour débloquer l’échelle qui te permettra de débuter dès le 20e étage lors des prochaines fois. Il y a 40 étages en tout, dont un boss à la fin. Je recommande de vous rendre aux niveaux 35 à 39 afin d’utiliser les automatons qui déposent des bombes au sol. Vous pouvez prendre lesdites bombes et les utiliser pour faire exploser les murs de la mine pour farm tous minerais et pierres précieuses (Fire opal, Ruby, Diamond, Gold, Silver, Octotinium, etc.)

L’histoire est plus sombre que SV, certaines scènes ou certains dialogues sont vraiment touchants. Le temps de jeu est extrêmement plus lent que dans SV (le temps est à pause dans tout bâtiment, mine, interaction, etc.). Après presque 40 h de jeu, je suis seulement à l’été jour 10 de l’an 1 !!! Je vais souvent dans la mine pour me faire de l’argent, donc c’est un peu normal que dans ce cas-là, les journées ne passent pas aussi rapidement.

Bref, je recommande aux joueurs qui adorent les Stardew-like ou farm-like, d’autant plus que le jeu n’est pas très cher et on en a pour son argent. Par contre, je déconseille aux néophytes de ce genre de jeu et surtout à ceux qui détestent ne pas être soutenus et guidés dès le début du jeu !!!

A darker, grittier version of harvest moon. Remember that time reddit was looking for some farming sim where you have to hide your wive's corpse? Well, this game was one of the candidates for what that thing might have been. People in this village have secrets - like being serial killers, drug dealers, wife beaters or insane after meeting something that totally isn't [spoiler]The Great Dreamer Azathoth[/spoiler].
Still... this game unfortunately has one flaw - grinding. A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of it. Way too much for me to ever want to finish it. You need a ton of items with a pathetic drop rate... yet i know a lot of people seem to like grindy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and the price is very low, so I can't really give it a negative review.
In short - if you like dark farming sims or like grindy sims, then you'll like this.

TL;DR - buy the game, support the dev, get this little gem some attention (leave a short review!).

The following is mostly constructive criticism.

The game's main flaw is that it feels a bit small. Something like this begs for more secrets, more events, more dialogue, more places to explore, and above all, more discovery. It also needs more in-game clues to guide the player into encountering events. Much of the time I was wandering around lost with nothing happening. All that being said, I do love what is in the game. I was just left wanting more.

A lot of this is probably the result of being a one-man project early on in the dev's career, and I would love to see what he could do with a small team.

Thankfully, the dev has kept up with the game all this time and released an expansion I'm eager to try.

It's slow paced and feels like old Harvest Moon, when it was a solid straight-forward farming game. Not the new cutesy watered-down Harvest Moon focusing on romancing chibi's, and child-like dialog making you feel like you're way too old to be playing these games.

Combat is better than SDV, leveling up skills is better than SDV. You have a roll dodge, which is always nice to have in a fight. You also have charge attacks. You can choose to use your axe, sickle or hammer to be your main melee weapon of choice, and those will level up as you use them. There is also a bow too, for all you Robin Hood's out there.

Story is subtle and more for mature players. SDV had some adult themes, but for the most part it was pretty tame. This game takes it a little step further than that, but I wont spoil anything. if you know, you know. if you want to find out, then play it and let the soap opera begin.

Just like in Harvest Moon, you have to pay attention when you plant seeds or they could wash away during the rain. Crops can also die in storms. Animals need to have a fence built around them to prevent being eaten at night (the aftermath is not pretty), and they are also too dumb to go inside their shelters so you need to either buy a tool to signal to them it's time to go inside OR you have to manually put them to bed.

In any case, I still recommend the game so long as you don't have ADHD or are just impatient about getting to the 'juicy parts'... or speed-running (who does that in a farm sim?? STOP IT). This game is a slow ride, and if you get fatigued doing too much farm work, then you might not enjoy this game too much. But I highly recommend to people who like farming... lots and lots of farming. And mining too. And fishing.

TLDR; Avoid if you love SDV and just expect every farm sim to be like it.

It's just really clunky. It feels like something I'd make in flash when I was 15. There are a lot of simple interface bugs that could be fixed really easily. They're just low hanging fruit that is ignored.

The game's balance is poor. Levelling up skills is an important part of it, but my 3 farming-related skills were maxed out in the middle of the second season. (You're expected to get to the ninth season before you even get to see any of the "Season 2" expansion content).

"the double lives of townsfolk, their plottings and betrayals..." I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. There's been hardly anything happening in town as far as I've seen. I'm almost done with my third season, and there's just nothing going on.

My hours are higher but have been playing offline. I'll continue playing and trying to give it a fair chance but it's just not shaping up to be a good experience.

The controls are awkward and the in game instructions are terrible. Reading how to do fencing and feeding chickens had me reading these over and over. I play these types of games so much, I should not struggle to understand how to do something basic, but here I am.

Even worse (when you already dislike a game),

1. To complete the game and achievements, you need to buy the DLC.
2. There is basically a hard time limit to content. That's a huge negative in my eyes that could be forgiven if the game was strong in other areas, but it's just not.

None of the characters intrigue me. I don't really care about any of them. The events I have seen, seem to be there to just be there to be more shocking versus actual story value. (Yes there is a story here, no it's not good)

I don't generally comment on art when it's negative, but this game not only is ugly but it's also uninspiring. The soundtrack and sounds are absolutely forgettable. I don't recall a single track, which is so incredibly rare with these types of games.

The community seems hostile to people who don't like the game, and that's also a major red flag to me. When someone says they don't like it, they seem to be immediately told they didn't play it enough or correctly. I can't see this getting better for me with 100 more hours. I'll change my review if something changes though.

Honestly, there are better games at this price point. There are better games for slightly more and less money too. If you absolutely have to get this, wait til it's on a historical low sale.

There's no game quite like this one.

People (I included) compare it to Stardew but I actually think it's in its own tier. You'll often read the same lines of dialogue over and over as you talk to NPCs (my biggest gripe with it, along with the gameplay in the mines). It's a bit rough around the edges, lackluster and clunky sometimes, Yes. Time doesn't pass indoors. You won't find any portraits during your conversations with the NPCs. What you need to do can be really cryptic sometimes without any hint or whatsoever. Town is oddly designed at first but you eventually get used to it and easily find your path. The mines are randomly generated, so every time you go back and forth on the ladders you have a new path to open with your hammer, and it can be quite cumbersome. The Stamina bar may be a bit too little to my liking.

But all in all, I think all those negative points actually contribute to its charm. It's hardcore. It's grindy. Gleaner Heights doesn't hold you by the hand to guide you. Gleaner Heights is... oddly immersive and addictive. The atmosphere is exactly what it wanted it to be: Oppressive, Gloomy, Lynchean, whatever. But it did compell me to the point of being weirdly addicted to it.

Unlike Stardew, it just doesn't feel happy-go-lucky. For Season 1 only, there's blackmail, murder, suicide, wifebeating, alcooholism... etc. Some may say it's a bit unnecessarily edgy, but I prefer the game to feel more real than just arriving in a town where everyone is happy and welcoming, with your end goal being to marry someone and having the best farm you could imagine.

In Gleaner Heights, there isn't a ton of options to customize your farm. All buildings are already placed and there's like less than 5 sorts of animals to take care of. But unlike those other games, managing your farm is actually meaningful. You WANT to get that money to upgrade your equipment (Boss fights can be pretty tough, and some end-game areas need you to have upgraded gear), You WANT to gather all types of items to give to NPCs because you want to save them from whatever their issue is.

You definitely WANT to get to the bottom of this, and make your hours count.

At least that's the route I took.

Because I did not mention the Sin Counter which is affected by some horrible decisions you can make. I will not elaborate on that matter since I did not sin once on my playthrough.

So despite all its negative points, I definitely think Gleaner Heights feels real and very meaty.
I am currently at 71 hours and I barely scratched the surface of Season 2. There's new plotlines to follow as new characters arrive in town, and a new threat to overcome just like in a new season of your favorite TV series. (It was designed that way, hence the "Seasons" system).

Season 2 picks up the pace and makes you feel even more intrigued by the game's weirdness and unique setting.

The pixel art is well done on the buildings and settings but lacks a bit of facial features to the characters in my opinion.

To finish this review I will say that the soundtrack is fantastic, I really love the seasonal themes (especially Winter, it's so intriguing, fitting and oppressive!). I often surprise myself humming along the tunes while walking through the little town of Gleaner Heights, and I also love the saxophone that plays in the mines.

TLDR:

Game is not perfect, but those imperfections are what makes its charm, if you're into hardcore and grindy slow-paced 2D games with hours to sink into, please immerse yourself into Gleaner Heights and its Season 2 DLC.

Gleaner Heights seems like a mundane, uneventful town, but a lot of the townspeople have some rather serious issues, and there is an evil entity plotting in the darkness. The player must help the townsfolk and uncover the mysteries surrounding the murder of a young woman.

• Gameplay involves: farming crops, raising animals, mining, fishing, crafting, cooking, gathering, befriending townspeople, and fighting monsters.
• Each time the character levels up, the player can choose a perk for one of their skills.
• Combat is fairly easy, but if a player has trouble with it, there are perks to make combat even easier.
• Time is ongoing unless you’re inside a building, in the mines/any cave, or reading dialogue.
• Four seasons with different crops for each. There are also seed tiers to be unlocked.
• Can save the game at the end of the day only.
• Player starts with all basic buildings: home, barn, chicken coop, stable, workshop. Can add a greenhouse. Can upgrade all.
• Several romanceable characters. Queer romance possible. Marriage/divorce possible. No children.
• Player can accumulate “Sin” by choosing to do immoral acts throughout the game. This affects the ending.

[u]Praises[/u]
• Ingredients for cooking, crafting, and upgrading do not need to be in the direct inventory; items are pulled from storage.
• The unique mining system has the player remove cave walls to find resources.
• After doing various things in the game, the player can get a little robot to do farm chores.
• Several secrets to discover.
• Outlandish and sometimes dark humor.
• Serious topics are depicted in various scenes throughout the game (see CW).
• Diving underwater is pretty cool.
• A controller works extremely well with the game, which can’t be said for a lot of indie PC games out there. (Furthermore, after reading some other reviews, apparently it didn’t always have a good interface or controls, so I’m glad that’s completely changed!)

[u]Complaints[/u]
• Not enough inventory/storage space, even after getting upgrades and the perk to increase it.
• Not fond of only saving at the end of a day. Especially since the game crashed once and I lost quite a bit of progress.
• No customization of the house.
• Lacking romance. The player gives gifts to a romanceable character, then one day, they say something affectionate, then the player can marry them. That’s it. No dates. No romance development scenes. Then, the spouse lives in the player’s house and nothing further happens with them.
• Busy work achievements. There are several achievements that require a lot of repetitive farming. Besides that, there is also the achievement for cooking every recipe in the game, which you can only do if you’ve unlocked all the seeds, which you can only do if you’ve shipped enough crops.
• While there are a few racial minorities in the game, they’re by far some of the most passive and uninteresting characters in the story. Blatant tokenism. Furthermore, the sole black character is a cop. A black [i]cop[/i]. Seriously? The little representation that’s in the game has a black cop? I can’t tell if that’s dark humor or just plain ignorance of systemic racism. No self-respecting black person would join a system that constantly brutalizes and murders their people.
• Lacking content in general. There are long periods of time when absolutely nothing is happening other than the player tending to crops and animals. NPCs lack interesting dialogue outside of scenes.

There are unique things about this game and it has a lot of potential. I suggest adding more content to the base game: more interactions and events. Otherwise, it’s a good game for the genre to play.

Its a great game. I already finished it on another platform. It controls great on steam (with controller) you get used to it really fast, helps when you know pressing X picks ups an item, and Y stores it in your inventory. The game is pretty straight forward, find the shop, buy seeds, plant, and people will visit you on the next days and there is stuff happening as festivals. Its more simple than stardew but also more relaxing. You are not constantly chasing something. It might be nice to have a "sandbox" mode where you immediately have more stuff available like fruit trees, or even a full farm, and upgrades, because like now its a bit like a hardcore mode. But thats also what I loved about the game initially. I will keep playing here but maybe like a year 2 mode or something would be good and not that hard to implent? This game is also a piece of art with really nice dialogues and story. I like it a lot and I liked it more than the Roots of pacha demo (which is good too, tho), and I will keep playing this. Gleaner Heights is a nice little farming game with a not-so-nice backstory of the town. It kinda feels like playing a faming game set in a lovecraft universe or at least a King Novel.
I do like that not everything is SPELLED OUT for you but shown via the enviorment and item descriptions. I do like the NPCs, the multiple secrets, the decisions you make. I played through the season 1 content and am very much happy to go on and experience the season 2 of it.

Farming feels easy and intuitive and not to overcomplicated. You plant stuff, you water it, you harvest it. the animals are similarly easy to handle.
The combat feels a bit cluncky but for me that was totally okay. You hit stuff, nothing to fancy.
The social aspect is pretty simple too but the best rewards are the little pieaces or lore and stories and rumors you get. Also I like that I can basicly choose my own sexuality at the start (Prefer man, prefer woman, prefer both.) which I wished more games would do.

Also a warning: People can die. Some people WILL die. One should know that before getting into this.

All in all its a really good and solid game. For those that are into games like the classic Harvest Moon and SDV but want a bit more story and a little less complicated systems will totally be happy with this game. I know I am.

Okay, so best advice I got: you're here for the scary story, but play it like a farming sim for the most part. Lore takes a while to coax out of the townsfolk, so take frequent walk at night (collect the night flowers every night) and make friends (gift giving and talking to people). Patience is key.

Gleaner Heights is not for everyone. I personally enjoy this game as my game hours would point out, but it would be hard to recommend it. This is a niche within a niche.. within a niche type of game (Farming> Mystery> Very tedious game play). The developer has acted on a lot of feedback as time has passed, so old reviews have [i]some[/i] invalid points now, though the developer has held onto elements that can make it hard to enjoy at times.

[b]To save time, I would summarise:[/b] a lot of grinding for money to progress, more to be desired NPC dialogue [b]BUT[/b] a true mystery game with minimal hand-holding that encourages going on hunches and having good attention to detail. [u]Most importantly,[/u] do not play with Stardew Valley in mind. These games are polar opposites with the farming genre being its only similarity.

I have yet to complete it, though I am doubtful my thoughts on the game would significantly shift. If they do, I'll go and correct it.

[i]If you want to know more before you buy...[/i]

[h1] The Plot:[/h1]
The plot itself is very enjoyable as you slap on your tinfoil hat and run on every hunch you got. The hints that are provided do involve you analysing it, and the developer is kind enough to not throw in annoying red herrings.

You will be drip-fed information that goes into the side and main plot, making it satisfying if you do figure it out yourself. Ironically, the wiki available has at times crumbs to go off, so you will have to purposefully dig to spoil it. Plus, when you have completed it there is a season 2/ DLC to go into. I haven't started it yet, so I cannot speak on it.

Be aware though that you will not be flying through the plot. Requirements need to be met so you will have to sit about and focus on other elements which take time. This itself seems to turn a lot of people off, you will have to be patient about it.

Pacing is hard to say on. I admittedly tried to min/max my first season which in hindsight was a dumb idea. It left me being slapped with plot at once, to then having to wait about for more. Plus grinding for money dragged every day on more than it should as time pauses inside buildings. If I was to remove my over eagerness, it would have been well-paced.

[h1] NPC's Dialogues:[/h1] (My biggest gripe)
Being as there are no portraits, I expected more dialogue to counterbalance this. In reality, dialogue is repeated and only changes depending on where they are. Progressing relationships feels useless (excluding [spoiler]the info they provide at milestones[/spoiler]) and they still treat you as a stranger at times despite maxed relationships. Also, I wish there were useless cut scenes of them doing nothing of plot importance, just so it could provide us with their personality.

This domino affects my opinion on the bachelors/ bachelorettes. I have romanced every one of them, yet none of them stand out so I am struggling to pick who to marry. The current cut scenes available for them all are great, but then it ends and that's it. You get 1-2 and you are back to repeated dialogue. I feel as if a lot of imagination and role playing is needed to be remotely invested in them.

[h1] Earning Money:[/h1]
Progressing and figuring out the main plot involves you getting a decent sum of money. The issue is that earning said money is a mind-numbing chore at times. If you have played older Harvest Moon games (this is inspired by it), you will see many connections. There are 3 main ways of earning money which are farming, fishing and mining.

Plants and livestock do not generate enough money to make it your main source, it's good to have for gifting and cooking purposes, however, once you have completed that it goes back to being [i]eh.[/i]

Fishing is very simple. Throw the bobber in, wait, see the visual cue and pull it back. For the amount of money it gives, I simply do not bother unless I want a fast level up for a perk. Additionally, there is no audio queue for when you get the fish so you will have to stare non-stop. Due to my astigmatism, I literally cannot focus my eyes on one spot for that long before getting double and blurred vision.

Mining is my one and only source of income. The only downside is how time-consuming it is. A good example is the HM/SoS:FoMT mining system, equally as tedious but the repetitive saving is replaced with going up and down a ladder. There is a way to make it fast ([spoiler]Stone sense perk, the red and golden ladder, automaton, and looking for the empty spot that indicates the ladder down[/spoiler]), but it can get boring after doing it day after day.

[h1] Summary 2.0:[/h1]
There are many other things to this game, but these 3 elements are what stand out most to me. If you enjoy games that you ruminate on and are a persistent and patient person, this would be for you. For me I can, to an extent, overlook the NPC dialogues and the money grinding element as I am clearly obsessed with it and I oddly enjoy monotonous activities.

The price is good value for money if you can get into it. If you are teetering on if it's worth a shot, I would suggest giving it a go. It did take me a couple of retries and a break for me to fully submerge into it yet here I am, 60 hours in and still playing.

先说缺点，首先是养成周期非常非常非常长（真的很长），游戏一开始赚钱非常不容易，属于那种赚得少但是花得非常多的那种，并且作为一个种田（？）游戏，作物成熟周期长，养殖周期更是嗯嗯嗯。并且它存档是按天存的，这导致了很多不方便。还有游戏一开始并没有多少教程，操作绝大部分靠自己摸索，剧情靠瞎逛等等缺点，不看攻略很难全收集
然后是优点，37r的本体26r的dlc赚得制作者裤衩子都不剩出租车都打不起，本体内容已经很丰富，dlc更是往里面塞了差不多本体的内容进去，可谓爽飞。克系内容不多但是氛围塑造挺可以（dlc更是爽歪歪为了不剧透下略）我相信没人不喜欢种田钓鱼做饭，你甚至可以挖人墙角（和被挖）
总之真的很好玩，太对得起这个价格了！但是时间比较紧的人就不要玩了因为真的很耗时间。。。请大家都来玩！我在贴吧自己总结了一些经验也欢迎大家来看

Ich liebe dieses Spiel. Allen, denen Harvest Moon (bzw Story of Seasons) immer zu bunt und zu nett war, für den hat Gleaner Heights die richtige Dosis Dunkelheit :D
Es gibt viele Geheimnisse der Stadtbewohner zu erkunden. Es bringt sogar etwas sich mit den Leuten zu befreunden und nur so bringt man dann auch die Story voran! Ansonsten ist es eig ziemlich klassisch:
Man bewirtschaftet ne Farm mit Hühnern, Kühen, Schweinen. Es gibt die Möglichkeit sich ein Pferd zu kaufen, jeden Monat gibt es unterschiedliches Gemüse und es gibt Minen zum Erkunden!
Man kann sein Werkzeug verbessern, um effizienter arbeiten zu können und so die ganze Farm mit Gemüse zu füllen :D
Zum neuen Content (also zum DLC) kann ich noch nicht viel sagen. Bisher ist mir noch nix neues aufgefallen. Habe aber extra für das DLC nochmal neu angefangen und wahrscheinlich braucht das einfach noch ne Weile.

Gleaner Heights is a farming sim where the more you put in, the more you get back. While you can play it as a straight-up farming sim (farming, relationships, mining, fishing, crafting), you'll be missing out on a good chunk of the game if you do so. Ingratiate yourself with [b]all[/b] the townsfolk and spend time exploring the area [i]at different times during the day[/i]. Dig up all the secrets to unlock new areas to explore and find optional bosses that will thrash you if you're not prepared!

[h1]Quirks and Charms[/h1]
The game doesn't handhold you (there's no guided tour here!) or give you an easy start (mining can be very dangerous), but is accommodating in other ways. The penalty for "dying" is very forgiving (you only lose the rest of the day) and the game gives you great tools to play the game at your own pace (days end @ 5:00am, time freezes when you're inside and you can advance time if you need to). Your kitchen, crafting station and shop upgrades also conveniently draw directly from your house storage too.

[h1]Getting Through the First Day[/h1]
For those struggling with stamina on the first day, take the first day to explore the area. You can dig up equipment to increase your defense, forage for items to restore/increase your stamina and find money to make extra purchases. Then just reset the day when you know where everything is if you want to. Specifically, clear the NE corner of your farm (easiest debris to remove) then forage the green herbs (restores stamina) in the area W of your farm and more NE of the hotel. If done right, you should be able to easily plant and water 25+ seeds on your first day (more if you also find the cache of coins too!). The guides on the Steam page have super useful tips if you need more info.

Yes, for anyone who likes farming sims and doesn't mind/enjoys spending some time exploring/figuring things out
No, for younger kids (the game has mature themes), people looking for cruise control (the game gets easier late-game) or decorating (there is none).

i dont usually do reviews but this game will get compared over and over again with stardew valley.. farming. dating. festivals. mines. animals. all similar like most games like this. but this would b a dark stardew. the themes, plots, and characters all have something to hide. how u play and what u choose will b what determines how the game plays out. which is so fun of course. ive played almost 100 hrs on GH but kept reminding myself not to compare it with SDV and have really enjoyed it!

I really wanted to like this game but I struggled with figuring out what the controls were and how to get started and what to do first and where to go. It sort of just dumps you in an open world. I loved harvest moon and stardew and such but I just couldn't get into this game.

Controls are garbage, energy consumption is garbage, the mines are garbage. Most of this game is just utter garbage. I haven't played much, so i am hesitant to leave this review, but i honestly don't want to play any more.
For context, i have over 90 hours on stardew valley, and another 50 on mobile. I enjoy games like this usually. Here are the issues with Gleaner Heights:
It took almost the whole energy bar for me to hoe the tiles, plant, and then water 10 crops. You can barely do anything without all your energy depleting.

I was promised a farming sim with villagers who have mysterious back stories. Nope. The pacing is slow, and it is hard to find gifts for villagers, therefore hard to build friendships, therefore hard to uncover backstories. The stories are also on timers, so you can't relax or have fun.

Took 5 swings to destroy 1 rock on my farm. The field was covered in rocks. Decided straight away I'd only be doing a small amount of farming.

Map was too big, and the mini map wasn't detailed, so I got lost multiple times. Took 3/4 minutes to get from 1 end of the map to another. 3 minutes doesn't seem like much, but in most farming sims I've played, it takes 1/2 mins tops.

There isn't a quest log. The way you unlock these stories is by stumbling upon them, or befriending characters, which as I've already stated, is quite difficult. Since there are no quests, there isn't anything to drive you, and all the other activities, such as farming and mining, just absolutely suck.

Overall, pretty MEH experience. Would wait for this to be on sale, or just skip it altogether.

I thought this game would be interesting, but I got bored pretty quickly.
It's just too tedious. Too slow. Too repetitive. With too many small irritants dragging the experience down even further.

- there's no quick inventory dump/quick item transfer method: making inventory management a pain
- no auto sort
- you can't split item stacks
- you don't have enough room for more than 4 base tools slots so you have to CONSTANTLY switch them.
- max inventory stacks are too small making inventory management even more tedious
- you are on a timer for the "story" or you'll miss things. you can't just relax. you have to min max and rush if you want file completion.
- a dark story? uh huh. sure. If you say so. After day 3 there was nothing but crickets.. After day 12 I'm already just immediately going to bed waiting for something to happen after depleting my small stamina bar.
- NPC friendship points decay over time
- hitboxes are finicky, tiny, and unreliable. Making giving gifts and combat even more of a chore than they already are.
- stamina is awful and runs out too quickly, stamina-restoring herbs are also limited to the first season only.
- everything is too expensive.
- farming is barely worth it: barely gives much money. And to add insult to injury, I had to fight with the controls every step of the way.
- I play with controller and the game randomly stops my character's auto run whenever I drag the left stick NE. It got annoying very quickly.
- the game thinks pressing "O" (ie cancel) in the mines is really "accept." no game, 'O' is supposed to be cancel. 'X' is accept.

Either wait for a sale or research and check reviews before you waste money on this game.

Every so often, I come back to this game to try it again and it's still broken.

I had such high hopes prior to release, but if you can actually get it to start (which I couldn't for a long time!) then it's clunky as heck. My current problem with is it that I can't use a gamepad - it just flicks between options constantly as if I'm holding down one of the sticks.

as for the control system ? who thought that up never met something so clunky to use in all my life and i have played some games with rotten controls. 2 keys to pick something up ? nah ...... Stamina ??? well last 2 hours awake at start rest of day is slept through as too tired when trying to do anything in game

I really wanted to like this as it was a farming game with a difference ..... I lasted about 2 days in game time before getting frustrated with the control layout

I am not that far into this yet, but I already love it. The game plays almost like an old Super Nintendo or Gameboy version of Harvest Moon, which I can only approve of. The crafting is simple and the passing time in game flows just perfectly.

Each of the characters is very interesting and I do love that they entice me to want to know them better.

Double kuddos to you for having an afro american bachelor, which hardly any other game of this format tried. I love the mystery going about and...gosh! The nights are creepy as hell!

Overall, really well made!

The only issue I have with it is that the hitbox on my farm animals sometimes acts wonky. I tried milking my adult cow once and couldn't get it to work. I fiddled around for like 10 minutes before I finally got it to work. Mind looking into that, devs ;)

A farming sim game with a twist! I loved the game and all the intricate relationships the town of Gleaner Heights has. You go about it as a normal farming game in the day time and then at night you stalk the town finding out all the dark secrets hidden in the small unseemly town. Gleaner Heights has all your favorites ranching, farming, mining and you know (blackmail, murder, alcoholism, infidelity, etc). Definitely recommend playing!!~~ \(^.^)/

Wish there was a neutral option, but between a thumbs up or a thumbs down, deep in my heart, I think I’ll have to go with a thumbs down. Twas fun while it lasted.

I am a big fan of farming sims, I've played old school harvest moon games and boy do I know how grindy they are in the late game. After the early farming craze dies down and you finished most of the side storylines, you will start to hit a wall. You can't progress through the main story if you’ve missed a few cutscenes here and there throughout the seasons. I don’t think this should be the way for players to progress through the plot, they shouldn’t need to be at exactly 8th of fall, 11.20 am, holding Tobias’s underwear, hiding under mayors bed, just so they can trigger a cutscene that continues the plot. (I’m just joking, of course, you don’t get to hold Tobias’s underwear)

I find that the characters and plot are a bit too edgy for me. I know the whole point of the game is to be the dark, hot, mysterious cousin of harvest moon. But the dark theme feels so forced and unnatural, stuff happens and they don’t make sense. The mystery was there, but the stuff that happens that was supposed to lead you to the final reveal of the mystery really feels like they came outta nowhere and so dang cliche. Oh, so suddenly this guy is possessed. Oh, who would’ve thunked the mayor was bad all along. Oh, so the crazy live-in-the-forest man with explosives were right all along with his crazy conspiracies.

How I would describe the game, is this game is a teen who is attending Thanksgiving thinking of how cool and hardcore they are while wearing a T-shirt with a skull on it that their mom bought in Tesco last year, listening to fall out boy and thinking of how no one will ever understand him.

While it is somewhat your typical farming sim, there is an added dark side to Gleaner Heights. Created with a certain dark and mysterious TV series in mind, GH has murder, mystery, adultery, the occult, and more! Make friends fast, because you never know how long the NPC's will be around.....

如果有人對電腦版失望，也許可以嘗試購買switch版本，因為在掌機模式下，畫面會變得可愛起來，我在switch版本沒有遇過太多錯誤，這是跟星露谷完全不一樣的遊戲，如果你喜歡的是傳統型牧場，尋求懷舊感，我想你會喜歡，但如果追求的是星露谷的感覺，我想就不適合你，這是款更傳統的牧場遊戲，但有著小祕密跟一些boss，如果你喜歡一點點暗黑風格的牧場遊戲，可以試著購買玩看看，但最好的平台我覺得是switch，但是目前沒有中文。(個人switch遊玩時數達200小時)設計師也正在積極的專注下一波的更新！最新的DLC已發表，可購買！
