They are billions meets command and conquer meets helldivers. Runs buttery smooth. Retro aesthetic is great. Love this game!
Incredibly good RTS/Tower defense - like a much better They Are Billions. Absolutely worth the price and getting in EA.
I almost returned it when I first got it on account of it seeming pretty mechanically simple. And it's not an exceptionally complicated game in any single round, but this is a positive. It's easy to learn, the difficulty is very scalable and there are enough options to keep things varied and interesting between rounds that keep them from feeling too similar. This could have easily been priced at double what it is now and I think it'd be comparable in quality to other titles in the genre. I've never been a tower defense game fan and I'm shaky on RTS games in general, but this should be an easy choice for fans of either genre.
If you liked they are billions you will like this even more. either way I think it is worth the money as I am thirty hours in and still got plenty to unlock and wanting to play.

If this is early access, I'm excited to see future updates. Very solid game mechanics and gameplay loop. I hope to see slightly more sophisticated UI and Keybind configurations at some point but love the game so far.
Such a fun game, I've dabbled in RTS before but I usually end up getting too frustrated or overwhelmed only to leave the game sitting in storage and never touch it again. I'm not sure what is so different about From Glory to Goo, it's equally overwhelming and frustrating at times but I kept coming back after an hour long pause and regaining composure. The tutorial is non existent and there's pretty much zero wiki so it can be a challenge when you're first starting out. All I can say is keep with it and don't give up and you will treat yourself to one of the most engaging RTS experiences money can buy.
This game will truly make you feel like a commander waging war on the enemy. Every inch of ground taken can make a difference. It is ridiculously satisfying looking back at your base after a few hundred rounds to see pockets that were once swarming with goo are now central (comfy) portions of your base. There's still some jank like the building system is a bit unintuitive and lacks QoL features but the overall experience is so fun it makes up for the at times frustrating building.
For any new players here are some tips: Make sure you start researching early (beaker icon to the left of the building menu), move your commander around without any troops to gain a lot of experience early on, you can hold right mouse button and drag to uniformly spread out your troops. A big one is don't try to be cheeky and maximize area reclaimed with a thumper by putting it in unsuppressed territory, this is a strat I used a lot early on and it made the game extremely unfun and actually hindered progress. Also make sure you're leaving room for your troops to move around (generally a good idea not to build right next to your main base module), have arrays of connectors branching out for quick troop movement.

This game scratches an itch I've had since the days of Brood War. It strikes that same highly entertaining balance between enemies, units, objectives, priorities, etc, that synergizes into an exceptional RTS strategy. Graphics are very simple, but charming. Looking forward to seeing this continue to progress. It's already pretty fun in it's current state.

It's one of those rare cases when I was actually convinced to play this by.. the demo, well it's free couldn't hurt?
Context: I have to admit that at least at first, this game didn't appeal too much to me as just at a glance it looked like a "Starcraftish" indie slop. But then I gave it a chance, just on a whim and played a demo.
<2 days (and nights defending my colony) later> I almost mindlessly smashed the purchase button on a full version and oh my god am I waiting for the full release of this fu ck ing gem.
If you loved Starcraft (and you're probably old) and Dune 2000 (so you are ancient you're probably gonna fookin lose yourself in this little simcity creeper world crossbred chimera of an RTS.
Just keep making content devs, you're doing it right and don't you dare adandoning this project.

Amazing RTS I am enjoying as much as Dawn of War 1, Starcraft, Warcraft 3, and Supreme Commander 1. It's been over a decade since I have played an RTS this fun.
Plenty of content for early access, more than plenty of 1.0 games. Can't wait to see the rest as it comes out!

I've played many games in this genre since They Are Billions, but this is the first time I've been this deeply immersed.
From the thrill of expansion and the variety of units (I love that you can even modify them in the lab!) to the diverse builds possible through different captains and ships—everything is perfectly structured. I’ve clocked in 33 hours over just two weekends. My precious weekend flew by so fast, but I don’t regret a single second of it.
Thank you for making such an amazing game. I'm having a blast! Please keep up the great work until the official release!

Fkn hell, played this for 7 hours straight last night. Fantastic little game, sucked me in. It's not finished yet but the meat of what is here is fantastic. Has the potential to be the best of its kind (They are billions, Diplomacy is not an option, Age of Darkness) I love these Horde RTS base builders.
My laptop isn't the best, the game runs smooth as can be on it and the gameplay itself is great, random maps are lovely as playing the same maps is boring. Different factions/units to come has me looking forward to it. I'm trying the beta branch with the campaign and it's looking cool.

Survival mode only lets you face a set amount of waves per map. You have the option to continue playing after you beat the objective but the waves stop coming after that so its pointless. Maybe my game is bugged but its every map so far.

I'm afraid I'm gonna be a bit biased in the following. I think this game is fantastic.
Major checkboxes for me:
Workshop support.
Significant meta progression.
A lot of difference in the playstyles between unlocked captains.
Multiple possible player factions (Currently only 2, seemingly 4 planned)
Dirt cheap, for how much you get. I picked it up on sale for 8, but it's very much a steal at 11. This could easily be a 20 dollar game and I wouldn't bat an eyelash.
The Bad:
Visually simplistic. I personally find that endearing, but this is not a game to play for visuals.
Some RTS QoL stuff is missing. The most glaring issue for me was the inability to set a unit production building to work continuously - They fixed this in the most recent patch.
A good chunk of the alternate unit options take a fair bit of biomass - your meta-currency - to unlock. If you want to do cool, weird things like a flamethrower passenger aircraft, you have to grind for it a bit.
There's other aspects I can mention, good and bad, but this game has been a breath of fresh air. It's cheap, it's plain good, there's a lot of replayability just in what they have already, and you can get some pretty wild combos going once you've finished your first few maps and stacked up some stratagems and fleet support. The game can feel super crowded at times, because you can be juggling multiple fronts, you have a 'space ship' map layer that you basically feed resources into to unlock colony benefits, and the higher levels of difficulty will definitely demand either powerful combos or very efficient play for you to survive. Even your losses yield a respectable amount of meta-currency, though, so they can still help you progress.
The developer seems to be quite active, there's plenty more to go before it hits 1.0, but as-is, I've found this to be an excellent game, and I don't think you need to be super into the genre to enjoy it, either.
Great RTS if your looking for a real challenge. I hope to see this game expand in the future or a sequel. Its been a long time since a good RTS came out like this.

Tower defence x RTS x horde survivor. Kinda like a futuristic age of empires meets they are billions.
This game hits all the right spots in my brain. Everything about it is amazing. I love the soundtrack. The units are well balanced, much variety, there's seemingly endless replayability. I've only played for 8hrs and i've barely scratched the surface of what this game has to offer in terms of progression, and levels.
It's regularly on sale but worth full price. In no way does it feel like an unfinished early access game, apart from a missing campaign that is in the making.
This game is like They Are Billions but space. A nice switch up in atmosphere and has depth and is on another level of managing things.
Can't believe I'm just now finding this little Gem. 11/10
The game doesn't have vsync, so it was unplayable due to nasty graphical glitches.
As someone who's REALLY not an RTS guy, I found it compelling enough to save scum my way into a couple wins (after a couple hours worth of restarts). Which is saying a lot, most of my RTS experience is just abandoning bot matches not even halfway through a match.

Great game i highly recommend. I'm happy with variety it offers to players by letting you focus either on your settlement expansion or ship upgrading. Captain and ship classes feel very different from one another and if you unlock them all you can mix different captain perks together to create your own captain. While you cannot do the same with ship, it is deep enough as is. I hope future captains add more race variety (which already is more than in some other games inspired by "They are Billions", or even in TaB itself)
Also for that price you can't find better game of this genre (that i know of)

I've seen a ton of these retro RTS games. This one nails it. Good music, good controls, interesting mechanics, even if they aren't ground-breaking. It's just a solid game.

They are billions but better with a ton of variety, two factions and a cute roguelite mode. I'm excited to see the 3rd faction once it rolls out!
I've never written a review but this game deserves one. If you like starcraft but would like a slow(ish) large base building then you will most likely like this game. You build a base, expand to meet your resource needs, research tech, have a hero and build armies, have a ship in orbit for support that needs upgrades and defense as well, and while the first waves of alien hordes are managable, the later waves can be extremely chaotic, especially if they start taking out your power, water, and worker population.
For like 11 dollars, definitely work checking out and definitely looking forward to updates, and the game is still being developed.
I do not recall how I happened upon this game. But what I can tell you, is that it is one of the best hidden gems I've found during my time on steam.
Eight months ago, I was studying in Brussels and only had a simple laptop with me for work and leisure. While abroad I wasn't able to play my typical games because of the constraints of my system. I yearned to play a game akin to They Are Billions without too much lag.
If you are looking for the spiritual successor for They Are Billions, this is the game for you. It is fun, engaging, punishing, and it scratches that part of our brain that all strategists have.
The game is formulated in such a manner that anyone who'd like to play can find a playstyle to their liking.
You get quite the bang your buck. I cannot recommend this game strongly enough, it's only getting better with the passage of time.
Really good game. The harder difficulties are very fun and for an early access game, there is still a lot here to have fun with. There are tons of moments where enemies break through your defences, but unlike They Are Billions, it doesn't mean its a game over. There's plenty of opportunities to bounce back.

I get worried about early access games. I'm not worried about this one. And even if it completely died right now, it's still excellent.
This game is spectacular. The comparisons to They Are Billions are inevitable, but there is more depth here. Huge unit variety, factions that are meaningfully different both to play as and against.
If you like RTSs at all, you should buy this game.
