A tragically under-appreciated all-timer. One of those Pure games plucked from the aether that stands alone. Part of a wave of indie games that felt like the door opening to a new future, but got so derailed that it now evokes nostalgia for an era that by and large isn't recognized as ever existing.

Strongly recommending this to everyone who loves tough one-life games as Super Meat Boy or Hotline Miami. It's really fun to build momentum and complete levels fast when you're starting to get hang of it.
But seriously, Messhof, WHAT THE ♥♥♥♥ is wrong with the difficulty of Mercury compared to the previous planets? It is extremely stupid, even the final level is not that hard.

be warned that it's a hard game, especially the last few levels, but it doesn't feel punishing or unfair at all. controls are a little unwieldy at first but you'll get used to them,, take breaks if you're struggling and come at it again with a clear mind. become the flywrench
One of the most unique and interesting games I've played, period. The mechanics are extremely well realized and thought out. The flow of gameplay is very smooth, snappy and addicting. the ost is very good, and the vibe is one of a kind. Definitely a game I would strongly recommend and will remember, even if the difficulty towards the end starts to get a tiny bit grating.
Just make sure to take care of your eyes and fingers playing this one, too.

Very fast and addicting! When you maneuver around some difficult obstacle successfully you feel like a dexterious genius. The sound track is a banger as well!
I bought this game because I found it from Super Meat Boy, and this it's incredibly worth it.
The soundtrack is amazing and actually sounds like something I'd listen to outside of the game.
The gameplay itself is so simple but the game does a great job at challenging you, all of the zones introducing a new mechanic is fun and it feels rewarding seeing how far you've come.
10/10 in my opinion, wish more indie games felt unique like this.

the quick restarts make this really not frustrating at all, despite it being a hard game.
Literally a perfect game. I've been playing Messhoff's games since "You Found the Grappling Hook" and "Randy Balma: Municipal Abortionist". He has a penchant for making games that are Austere, fun, and exploding with color and charm. Flywrench is no exception. Though I will say it is his best work.

You can say 40 minutes is too short for a positive rewiew... But the game is cool so far, love that you can customize the game with themes and Level Editor. Thank you Super Meat Boy for introducing me with this game.
It's a well-crafted game, but there are so many variables that its hard to say any victory is truly yours. A lot of the times it felt like I was playing a level until my muscles contorted and the game played out in such a way that I was able to get to the end. Stopped playing at Mercury because it stopped being fun, don't know if I'll return.

Если в каком-нибудь Super meat boy, или Jump king, или Celeste кривая сложности постепенно поднимается только вверх с каждым уровнем, то в ЭТОЙ игре кривая сложности повышается только с каждой ЗОНОЙ, ибо на каждой новой зоне появляются новые механики, которые какое-то время надо изучать
Уровни в САМОЙ зоне могут варьироваться по сложности. Это касается и длительности уровня, и того, как легко в нем умереть

I think the price of this game should mean that most people will get enough out of it to be a worthwhile purchase. The game plays really well, with well-thought-through level design the complements the available [incredibly simple] mechanics very well.
Is there a ridiculous difficulty spike in Mercury? Yes. I decided I didn't want to grind that out, at least not on a Twitch stream. Maybe I'm too old, maybe the game's too hard, maybe I'm just bad. I don't really know. But I'm not bitter about having bought the game despite this. The preceding eight chapters are really good fun and do a great job of refining the player's skills.
That is until the game takes them outside and gives them a good kicking to remind them who's boss.
Go into it knowing the above then I think it can be an enjoyable, un-salty experience.

Simple but efficient graphics, unique design with some change on each new world.
Gameplay is good, control a ship, and change your color for braking barrier, short levels for a pure die and retry experience.
The White color is the basic one, let you go left and right as you want.
The Red one activates each time you do a push for getting height.
The Green one activate as you want, and make you spin but cannot move in this case.
You need to switch between them for braking all these different barriers.
A total of 180 levels across 10 worlds, for around 2-3 hours of gameplay.
Become really challenging on last worlds, with too much randomness …

This game is really getting slept on, the fact that in 10 minutes of practice I was able to get number 9 in the world on the Sun time trial makes me a little sad. I did a run of the second to last planet and did horribly, took me 12 minutes, and I still got 12th in the world. This is genuinely one of the most simple and fun speed games I've ever played, and it really takes me back to the Newgrounds days, reminding me a lot of games like N+, Celeste, and Super Meatboy (yes I know Super Meatboy has a Flywrench reference). The music is also fits the atmosphere perfectly. I'm not sure how this game could really be improved upon due to how simple the concept is, but if a sequel came out I think I'd have to buy it day one, it's just such a beautiful game.

This game feels amazing to play. Once you get past the first few levels and start grasping the controls, you start to enter a trance-like state that is very rewarding. The immediate death resets, fast pace, and carefully progressive challenge create an addictive loop of rewarding game play. It feels a lot like Hotline Miami, where you can do the same thing 100 times, slowly inching towards your goal each time, until you finally achieve it and get a huge rush of euphoria.
The only problem this game has is the abrupt difficulty jump in the penultimate world, Mercury. it feels as thought 2 or 3 worlds were missing before it to build up player skill and game feel, and you're left floundering. For a game that is completely lucid during the previous 7 worlds, it can really leave a sour taste in a player's mouth at the end. combine that with the fact every level must be beaten in order to finish the game, and i'd imagine most people give up/switch to easy mode to complete the campaign.
Even with such a strong difficulty spike, this game is a blast to play and will consume you for a couple hours at the very least. Highly recommended.

I love the art choices, adore the music, and generally appreciate the loose story surrounding it. The game really deserves more love.
However. Reaching Mercury after returning to the game and playing through each planet in under an hour total, I was mortified to find how wretched it was in every regard.
Mercury highlights many major flaws in the game's engine and physics system, and each level would take over an hour to properly finish until I had gotten through each one.
Up to this point, each death had felt fair, deserved, and entirely my fault.
After Mercury, I had myself genuinely questioning if this game was intended to be RAGE BAIT.
A number of levels on the planet effectively boiled down to luck on your timing, praying the physics wouldn't jank out and send you flying into a wall at mach 3, or just Being Lucky with your frames. It was just pure garbage level design on some levels, effectively just repeatedly dying to a randomly placed obstacle that was likely only put in to artificially elevate the difficulty of the final proper gate.
Despite my pure loathing for this section of the game, I still overall give it glowing regards and strongly suggest it to anyone willing to set aside a couple hours. It was very entertaining and borderline enthralling at some sections. I almost hope a sequel is made, though given it's been over a decade, I strongly doubt it will ever happen.
Spartan visual design, and just as simple controls. For as simple as the mechanics are, they prove to be an immense challenge to master them on the normal difficulty. All tied together with in an amazing soundtrack, and you're in for a good time.

A short yet satisfying platformer built around a deceptively simple idea and an unorthodox control scheme. There is a lot of depth to this game as a small change in timing or circumstance can result in a very different outcome in momentum and direction for your character. Though while there is challenge, the game doesn't force you to develop such an intimate understanding of these physics that it becomes frustrating. The entire story can be beaten within a couple hours, especially when the game's unique aesthetics and mesmerizing yet energizing music puts you into a "flow state". If you're a fan of platforming games, the experience is well worth the price.

Even though ive only got a couple of hours in it, it's one of those ones that sticks with you forever. Beautiful little game
Wonderful simple looking indiegame. It’s a mix of Monkey Ball, Kuru Kururin and Flappy Bird where you flap and bounce with a little worm looking spaceship through racecourse like levels. However on your way there’s different colored walls which you can only pass thru if you’re the right color, white is neutral fall state, red is when you flap to boost yourself somewhere and green is a spinning move which propels you forward. It gets crazy tough but rewarding in the end.
Flywrench is an assault on the senses, but I loved it for that. Glitchy, noisy, constant graphical motion. In the character, the levels, the menu transitions. Almost nothing is static here. The soundtrack is a perfect fit, and really brings the whole thing together.
Gameplay is essentially flappy bird mini golf, but on a controller drifting around feels great.
If you just do the story mode, it's probably 2-3 hours depending on how good you are. I'm okay I think. Time trials and workshop support extend that further if you really fall in love.
As a way to unwind for 20-30 minutes over the course of a week, Flywrench is an easy recommendation I think. On sale, even easier. And if you're on the fence after reading about it or watching a trailer, the demo is more than enough to give you an idea of whether or not you can spare the time and money.

Good Game
My expectation before I started playing it is that it was a regular rage-restart-before-you-succeed game. But it proved me wrong! The difficulty progression/learning curve was SO GOOD! And then it became a rage-restart-mindlessly game anyway.
The mechanics are great though, and if you like grindy hardcore games, you MUST play this!!!

I thought I would hate it as it looks like one of those rage games but actually it's super addicting, they nailed the formula from N+, Super Meat Boy etc.

You can go from completely clueless to completing a level within 5 seconds, it's all about the flow and nailing those inputs 5 seconds at a time, if you have a speedrunning mindset this game will click instantly!

Flywrench es una experiencia difícil de explicar, el control es tan fino que su extraña forma de abordar un plataformas es adictiva a la vez que hostil. Has de recobrar las comunicaciones de los planetas del sistema solar mientras aprendes de una manera orgánica las mecánicas que presenta el juego. Pese a lo mucho que me ha gustado este juego he sido incapaz de terminarlo, me he tirado al suelo y he llorado. Pero merece mucho la pena y llegues donde llegues habrás disfrutado de este caramelito.

Best game on Steam. I like to play it on my 10ft 4k projector, standing with my feet shoulder-width apart, with all the lights turned off the the volume way up on 11 channel surround sound, until my optic nerve starts fraying and my occipital lobe becomes crispy on the edges. Then when the sun comes up I go to bed and stare at the ceiling, motionless, until the burning stops.

ITS AMAZING
A fantastic game that has extremely nuanced and responsive controls. You feel like you're really learning to fly. Perfect length, great pacing for levels, well tutorialized. Big difficulty spike in Mercury, but it's the last 6th of the game so it's to be expected. Visuals don't distract from the gameplay. OST is excellent and blends perfectly with the fast paced gameplay and glitchy asthetic. Flywrench really introduces its mechanics at a reasonable pace, and by the time you reach the end you can accomplish some truly incredible things. Pretty cool that they threw in an editor, although I'm not going to mess around with it personally.
It feels so, so good to move in this game, I'm really happy I played it.
So yea, I think this one's a 10/10. I'm sure it's too difficult for some, and maybe the visuals will be off-putting to others. For me however, I really don't see any flaws.

Yeah, it's pretty fun. My only critique of the game so far (aside from things I'd rather see in the game that don't affect the gameplay) is how hard Mercury is. I'd recommend trying out the later time trials at about the same time as Mercury.

A classic in the 2d platformer genre, I love the aesthetic, music and level design. I wish there was more to the story.
This game is something special. The aesthetic, music, and brutally punishing, but fun gameplay, come together into one of the best indie packages I've personally played.

In other words, this is the perfect rage game.
commercial version of a old indie game that i did not knew the existence. It is a quite unique, original and fantastic game with elegant and minimalist design. The mechanics are simple but that doe not mean that the game is repetitive, in fact each planet/chapter presents a new challenge as they milked the mechanics to the max (but in a good way). Last levels will be challenge if not impossible, but until there you will have fun. I strongly recomend this game. it is a unique experience.

Flywrench is a precision 2D flight game with a minimalist but still very stylish presentation. While the levels are very satisfying to beat, the real challenge comes from time trials. I don't enjoy speedrunning so I won't be grinding out the extra challenges, but I did enjoy playing through the story mode. My only complaint is that several times I got stuck on flat walls instead of bouncing off, but that was minor enough to ignore.
