I wanted to like it, but the pacing of the story wasnt great at all, you can tell it takes inspiration from night in the woods, but the story and gameplay in this is sooooo slow, the mini games drag on and the majority of the game is spend walking thru and empty town and an empty hospital with very few meaningful interactions, the idea is there, a story about the world of a hospitals and its workers, but it gets buried under bad choices, the entire first and second act are slow to set up an overarching story and mystery that gets blasted thru in the 3 act with no real conclusion, a lot of questions are left unanswered and the ending is so abrupt after throwing you in mini game hell, i also encountered so many bugs during my playthrough, so many mini games failed cause the buttons pressed just arent registered and a lot of visual and dialogue bugs as well

I really wanted to like this game. Although it was slow and a bit boring the characters and their lives and the main story seemed incredibly meaningful and important...but the gameplay was terrible so unfortunately I gave it up.

I will admit, I am not the best gamer, I stick to a lot of point and clicks because I can't aim for ♥♥♥♥, but the little games and such were soooooo confusing. Especially the key-necessary, rhythm type ones.

I also noticed quite a few little bugs like the notes not loading or incorrect save, etc.

Really cute, though, so try it, I just didn't work well with it.

Oh, wow, I did not expect the suckerpunch this game was.

So, erm, let's try not to spoil things. You're a pigeon in residency at St. Ursula's, which is a rundown hospital in the tiny town of Porcupine. It's clear that the devs either were in or talked to people who were in healthcare professionally; I recognized some patterns and role types from my own days working in a hospital. Considering the game is dedicated to healthcare workers, it's not a surprise that it's lovingly portraying how difficult the field can be.

Your sidekicks, Mia and Karl, and the whole host of characters in the town are fascinating to talk to, and there's no shortage of general conversations to be had in getting to know folks. This is as much a nod to small-town life as to the intensity of healthcare, with the backstories and history pieces to prove it. The minigames along the way make me glad for how many years of keyboarding I had to take, but they were all engaging. The art is playful and colorful, and the music is sweet.

Which is why I wasn't prepared for it to just...end. There's a Big Climactic Moment and then--credits. That's my one real complaint here; some of the loose ends are tied up in pictures through the credits, but I have so many questions left unanswered. (And I'm very sad about one of the outcomes, even though I saw it coming a mile off.)

Gameplay is good, the story is engaging--not a ton of choices, though, so it does have a visual novel feel--and I'm glad to have played it, but the ending was rough. Recommended, but tentatively.

Wirklich ein sehr toll produziertes Story-Spiel, was mir gut gefallen hat. Man erlebt gemeinsam mit dem Hauptcharakter Finley, der frisch in die Kleinstadt Porcupine gezogen ist, die Spannung zwischen dem Arbeitsalltag im Krankenhaus, dem Pflegen der Patienten und dem Kennenlernen der Stadt, ihrer Bewohner und das Finden neuer Freunde.

Dabei werden viele wichtige, tiefgründige und auch traurige Themen aufgegriffen, wie z.B. Freundschaft, [spoiler] Krankheit, Druck/Stress, Tod, Verlust, Trauer und deren Bewältigung, die aktuelle Gesundheitsindustrie. [/spoiler]
Es ist somit eine Achterbahn der Gefühle und zeitweise auch sehr emotional.

Die Charaktere sind sehr liebevoll gestaltet und umgesetzt und der süße Artstyle rundet das Ganze nochmal richtig ab. Auch die Musik/der Soundtrack ist ein schöner Begleiter und wechselt zwischen gemütlich, fröhlich, melancholisch, sehnsuchtsvoll, hektisch und spannungsvoll.

Ein paar kleinere Flaws hat das Spiel allerdings:
- man muss das Game mind. 2x durchspielen, um alle Errungenschaften zu sammeln.
- minimale Bugs, die den Spielfluss aber nicht (!) unterbrechen und schnell verschwinden
- spannungsvolles, aber abruptes Ende, was viele Fragen offen lässt.

Wer storybasierte Spiele und Sidescroller mag, dazu viel Dialog, schöne Musik, süße Tiere und Cozy-/Indie-Game-Atmosphäre, kommt hier voll auf seine Kosten. :)

The story has glacial slow pacing and takes too long to get to the point. I was a good 6+ hours in and not much had happened. I’ve seen that it’s around the 8 hour mark when things start picking up, but just… ugh.

Too much pointless dialogue and platitudes about life. At one point, I started skipping through it.

Gameplay gets monotonous FAST and a couple of the minigames (stethoscope and that one where you have to dance to distract other NPCs for example) are buggy.

It’s a beautiful game, but even that loses it’s charm when you’re running back and forth through mostly non-interactive environments.

Idk I figured something that starts with a TW about depression, death, illness, etc would’ve had something poignant to say by now.

A masterpiece of a game.

Despite there still being some bugs, a majority of them were quite minor. The rest of the gameplay was wonderful. The characters will live in my heart and with what I do forever. The storytelling was beautiful, really pulling you into the moment with the way the main character goes about sharing their experiences.

I would recommend this game if you enjoy a good story, enjoy character relations, and don't mind a softer, more cozy, style of gameplay. There's a lot to learn life-wise, from advice to just moments that we deal with every single day. There is a very positive take on a lot of topics too. It is one of the few games that have made me connect with characters and feel such empathy, to the point of where I cried twice.

The music is also very beautiful.

Thank you for this wonderful story and experience. I hope to play more games like this one in my lifetime.

I would recommend this game, but only buy when it's on sale :) Too short a story in my opinion to validate the price otherwise.
Cute story, but kind of falls off toward the end, leaving what feels like many parts unexplained (though I did look at a forum online that helped explain things I missed/didn't fully grasp)
I cried at one of the bigger parts, and it takes a lot to make me cry at a game so that tells you something too. You can tell some heart went into this game.
Kindaaaa upset we didn't see some a certain couple of male karens get their comeuppance, but hey, that's just the life of someone in an unforgiving profession.

At first, it was hard for me to get into the story because, due to its very specific pacing, the game takes a long time to build momentum. For the first 8 hours, very little actually happens: small, melancholic moments here and there, caring for patients, solving puzzles.

However, by the end, the story reaches such an emotional intensity that it even made me tear up. The final hours of the game were absolutely worth the entire playthrough. It turned out to be a powerful and deeply emotional story.

I’m proud of our doctors and medical workers and endlessly grateful to them for their work and selflessness—sometimes going against the system and even against ourselves.

it has some bugs and rough corners that could be polished but overall was a good experience.

It is evident the NITW influence on this game (world presentation, self dialogue and conversations, hanging routes, tiny bits of community, and minigames), but it does stand on its own on focusing on the live of Finley, his work and interactions with the people in town.

Really loved the characters and background art, and the music is pretty nice too 🍂

I was really looking forward to this title. I enjoy visual novels, and the art style and music seemed great, what could go wrong?

I felt, like the pacing of the game was not right. Some dialogues were boring, I could not get to know the characters and start to like them. Going from home to work as Finley was repetitive and tedious. Talking to some NPCs felt like really meaningless thing. They would provide generic dialogues and I didn't feel that striking a conversation with them would actually change the course of the game, so after some time it seemed like a waste of time - especially when some of dialogues seemed unnecessarily long for the little substance they provided.

Some elements seemed intriguing but their form was underwhelming - like going to the forest with Pina and seeing the wooden dolls. It didn't need the annoying platformer element. I'm starting to get engaged in the backstory when out of blue I'm asked to jump on platforms and do a task that felt meaningless.

As much as I wanted to like it, it just wasn't engaging enough to finish. I was hoping it would be similar to "Night in the Woods" which was an emotional rollercoaster for me with great narrative and witty dialogues. But Fall of Porcupine was just slow and bland compared to the "NITW".

Cozy fall game. Its story based. Very atmospheric too. It has a cute story that makes you appriciate the healthcare workers more.

Although I sometime feel resentful to doctors because I feel unheard and neglected, I know thats not the normal experience and they should be treated with respect and love. They have such a vital role in our society, and I am sure most of them are well aware of it too.

About the game: I just wish it had an autoplay feature sometimes. but thats maybe just me. I want to lay back and eoy my drink without having to touch the keyboard every two seconds. But this is just my personal humble opinnion/feedback.

Play this if you want a cozy calm story based game along with a hot drink.

Fall of Porcupine is a story-driven game starring Finley, a bird who has just moved to a new town to work at the hospital as a junior doctor. The gameplay consists of talking to other anthropomorphic animals at the hospital and around town as well as little mini-games when treating patients at the hospital. It is a very simple gameplay loop. There’s a setting to make the mini-games even easier but considering that how well you do at them doesn’t seem to affect the story, I’m not sure it matters.

I thought the story in this game was just OK. It starts off fairly strong as you meet all the characters and explore the town, but it doesn’t really expand beyond that. There’s a turn-based bar fight as well as a festival partway through where you can talk to people in a certain order to get a special item which mixes things up a little bit. It also escalates at the end, but then just abruptly ends with little resolution.

The gameplay is about as simple as it gets. Anyone looking for a game that’s mechanically engaging should look elsewhere; this is definitely story-driven first and everything else second. Technically speaking, there was a minor bug with the phone where when you tried to scroll up to read the latest text message, it would jump to the bottom making it nearly impossible to select it. The text messages are very few and far between though, so this did not really affect the game.

I played this one with a friend who works in healthcare, and we voiced the characters. I felt that this escalated my experience of the game over if I had just played it by myself. I likely would have been pretty bored by the end if this was a solo experience. Still, if you’re looking for a story-based game with some heavy themes mixed with light-hearted humor and simple gameplay, give this one a shot.

This game surely was a roller coaster of emotions; story that will make you laugh from joy and cry from sadness at the same time. The dedication and appreciation towards healthcare workers is visible ins the story, and the developers really understood the struggle and ups and downs of the field (thanks to the interviews especially).

Yes, the game has small bugs, but considering the story it unfolds I can forgive them. Sometimes the minigames can be difficult but that also fitting to the theme as well.

As a player this has been an experience I feel thankful for <3

The artwork is beautiful and the story is intriguing but the game itself was unplayable. I got through the dream sequence and walk to the hospital without any problems. However, once I was at the hospital and playing the minigames it immediately got worse. One of the first three had a bug where you couldn't press all the keys required. The one with the mole in the basement is as far as the game would go since during that minigame, all the controls froze. I tried every key twice to see if something at happened and tried plugging in my controller to try to play with that but it didn't work either. I was really looking forward to playing this game but it won't let me.

不知所云就算了還層次極低

且這遊戲真的內含有負能量
有帶出現實醫病關係中可能會出現的緊張複雜與黑暗面
玩起來實在不輕鬆
用這種可愛溫馨畫風騙我進去
笑話也是偏冷的那種不好笑要玩慎入
(甚至關於這一點在遊戲一開始就還有警告標語 lol)

一応行けたクリア後の感想です。
おすすめできるかというとはい、と言い難いけど
いいえではない中間が欲しい。
好きなゲームと似てる要素が多いのもあって雰囲気やシナリオは好き。

会話が基本だけど、町、病院内の人に会いに行くとなると
歩く時間長くて途中からめんどくさくなって目的の場所だけになる。
ミニゲームが初回しか説明されないのと
変に難しかったりする、心電図とかは判定狭い。
設定は画面サイズ変更はなぜか保存されない。
シンプルミニゲームモードも変わってるのかわからない。
あと話し中なのに動けたりする。

Still pretty early on this but couple of comments.
+ Very pretty
+ Music and sound are nice
- This would be extremely confusing if I hadn't seen the prologue played already - I didn't see the prologue bundled in game either so guess I lucked out by seeing a streamer that
- Definitely a story delivery system but full of typos
- Phone UI is an absolute mess for KBM users
- Dialogue skipping is unintuitive - tapping to advance it should display the full text for a speech bubble, then tapping again should advance to next bubble, but it's very inconsistent across the title. Sometimes (~15% of the time) tapping to display a bubble will just skip that dialogue entirely so I've missed a good bit.
- Missed some bugs, like, sequence breaking with story stuff. "Why can I take this elevator when my objective is to get the elevator fixed" kind of basic scripting issues

Like I'm happy I'm playing it, grab it on sale and play the prologue first, but it could stand a QA pass and patch or two

Update - finished the game. It gets substantially buggier as you go along, but it's playable. Pay attention to details - the ending makes sense and is fulfilling if you put a lot of pieces together yourself. However - and this is as much as note to the developers as anyone else -
[spoiler]How does the player character NOT face justice or at least incredible survivor's guilt at the end? They're the one who hit the switch- there was surely an investigation, and they were horribly depressed and the town was ready to lynch them for doing their job *correctly*. You'd think the resulting chaos would put them off the deep end or in prison.[/spoiler]

the mini games are alright just repetitive.

the game is wonderful tho in terms of the style and the story that is being told but just wasn't engaging enough for me in the pacing and tiny game play we do get.

if a slow paced story is what you're after then I recommend it! but if you want something more engaging and interactive then look elsewhere.

The game and story are decent. The art and animation are charming.

There are still bugs in some mini-games, especially those requiring keyboard inputs. Although it doesnt matter if you fail them.

Traveling between locations in the city and hospital quickly becomes tiresome.
3 achievements require a 2nd playthrough and with no way to skip whole dialogues, replaying soon turns into a chore. I think the game was long enough without forcing players through another run.

A very cute and emotional story in the life of a pigeon named Fynn (correct me if I misspelled XD)! Fynn is working at the hospital in a town called Porcupine and you get to expierience a part of his life there. The characters all seem very lovingly created with unique personalities. For those who tend to get very attached and emotional might very well shed a few tears when playing through the story (just a fair "heads-up")! But all in all it is definitely worth a playthrough or two (or more XD)!

I had this sitting in my library for awhile. I didn't think it was going to be as good as it was. It really made me feel things throughout the gameplay. It did have a couple bugs during the treatment minigames, but that wasn't a big deal. I was able to get all the achievements and take a few great screenshots. Love the storyline and art, but I hate everything else. The controls are uncomfortable and make my hands hurt after a short period. The UI is very minimal and inaccessible. The complete lack of quick save abilities is insane when you expect people to do 8+ things between saves. This game is far from cozy when they place seconds-long time-limits on puzzles that have the worst directions I've ever seen in a game. I was so excited for the game but its a huge letdown honestly. Theres no way to run. Theres nothing extra to interact with as far as I can tell. I've spent 20 minutes in game and it feels like its been an hour. Its just not worthwhile.

Edit: It took me about 8 hours to complete the first chapter due to all the times I had to restart because of glitches and the lack of save points. For example: got 10 minutes into a save file and my in-game phone wouldn't pull up at the very beginning of my shift immediately after talking to my boss. Had to restart and play those 10 minutes over again. Which would be fine if stuff like that didnt just keep happening. The game has been out for quite a long time so I'm not understanding why such simple bugs arent being fixed.

I'm also disappointed that I had to play a hospital game for 8 hours before there was a character in a wheelchair that wasn't a miserable jerk. And once i saw that not-miserable wheelchair-using character, I realized I couldn't even interact with them. I thought I would get some cool medical content but frankly it just feels like medical propaganda. No real representation for disabled people, no representation for what its like to be in a hospital as a patient. Just doctors and nurses, sometimes severely hurting people but always wanting pats on the back, and a storyline that wants you to empathize with those that hurt others

For someone working in healthcare this game is quite relatable and so deep and emotional.
Really adorable story line with moving happenings! Really enjoyed it.
I do say this game is better played with a controller than on PC because some minigames are very confusing and not very clear with how to use the controls.

I've just finished this game. To those that think it was rushed, or finished too early, I think you've missed the point of the story, and should replay it.

To everyone else: you will not find a story like this outside an indie studio. There are real people in here - yes, it's a game about silly animal people, of course - but everything about these people feels real and tangible.

Please - even if it's on sale - consider picking this up. I feel the message is clear, if you allow it to be.

Would be better if it weren't for game breaking bugs. In my case, the hospital minigame was completely broken after the first few days, not registering half the buttons I pressed. At first I thought it was a skill issue, but after restarting the minigame a few times, I realized it was just bugged, and this happened through the rest of the game, so no matter how well I did in the other minigames, i'd get a lousy score because the stetoscope would sabotage me. Really sad to see bugs like that go unadressed.

because of the graphics style of the game i expected it to be like "a night in the woods". it does not have this big twist in the storyline, but its definitely still a good story to experience. i have no complaints other than, i wish you could walk a bit faster. there is a lot of walking around and checking on npcs for conversations/achievements and thats fine, just wish i could do it a little faster.

The art itself made this game worth playing for me, I just looove it
Story was great but the ending did feel rushed, I would really have liked to see what happens after to get some closure. Will certainly do another playthrough in a year or two for the scenes I missed, when it's less fresh in my memory cause I feel it would be too repetitive back to back considering the alternate choices are only a small part of the story.

A bit pricy considering the length of the game, but at a sale price it's definitely worth it imo!

I would love to recommend this game, it has a lot of good things going for it, but I just didn't love it enough.

Let's start with the good:

[*] Cute moments and relationships between characters. I especially liked the way Finley interacted with his patients.
[*] I really liked the message of the game though it was a little darker and more "adult" than I expected with references to alcohol and cigarettes and the variety of mental health issues it talks about. Not bad that it was referenced, just not what you'd expect based on the graphics and description of the game. I loved that there was a triggers/content warning right when you started the game!

And now for the things that frustrated me:

[*] The game felt repetitive after a bit.
[*] There was too much somewhat pointless running around. There are "empty" zones to run through just for the sake of running through them with no real reason for it and sometimes the route it wants you to take to move the story forward is extremely circuitous.
[*] Requires at least two playthroughs to get 100% achievements. This frustrated me the most because it felt like in order to get the FULL story you actually needed all the scenes for the "Hangout" type achievements. If you complete Mia's hangouts some of the dialogue doesn't make sense with Karl and vice versa because it references things you haven't seen. It almost felt like it started out as one linear story but the devs cut it in two and decided to make you choose instead just to get you to play the game again.
[*] The game was a little buggy and there were a few times I had to completely exit the game and restart it to fix things. This in and of itself wouldn't be so bad, but there IS NO OPTION TO SAVE and the game doesn't save that often. This meant having to read through the same dialogue and replaying the same minigames multiple times when the patient diagnosis minigames didn't work properly. The minigames themselves didn't always register my keystrokes.

If you are a bit of a completionist like I am, the issues are frustrating, but it's not a terrible game and nothing is so broken it's not completable. Maybe pausing between the two playthroughs I did would have made it a little less frustrating for me, but I really didn't want to forget what I missed. If you're a more casual player and like point and click adventure kinds of games with minigames and/or slight platforming you'll probably love this one.

This game although very beautifully made, lacks in many, many areas. Long winded texts that give character but don't amount to much story wise.

The big "main story" is resolved in a picture during the credits. I played this game for 10 hours and most of it was walking from one place to another, then playing minigames and around 5% of that affects the story. So many characters that are there to fill out space, very surface level character creation.

There were a few bugs and several typos.

Also, the minigames outcome doesn't even affect the story ! What's the point then?

Irma was the best thing on this whole story.

It feels like it leaves a lot of loose ends at the end.

And that ending.... what ???? It just starts the end credits? I understand the criticisms towards the healthcare system, but give us a story !!!

This was a mess.

I'd love to recommend this game but it feels unfinished. The art style is great and the story starts off interesting but feel rushed in the end.

Technical issues: On steamdeck, I constantly saw graphic assets on the lower or upper screen. One of the minigames is just broken and it is impossible to achieve a good score as button inputs are simply not read correctly. Dialog triggers are also sometimes broken. I go dialog out of order. People that followed me sometimes go stuck on stairs or continued to walk during dialog, making dialog with them unreadable, since they were too far away. One time, the dialog bubble was appearing too high, so the first line was almost impossible to read. Thankfully, I did not encounter game breaking bugs, but a lot of minor annoyance.

Minigames: The minigames each day were fine. Ignoring the broken one, they are on the easy side and I got an A in most without much effort. When each minigame is introduced, they are clearly connected to a task, but later are used randomly. For example once, Finley checks someones chart, I get the Injection minigame. Why, there is a diagnosis minigame and from the dialog before and after, the patient did not actually receive an injection. It's not a huge issue, but adds to the unfinished and rushed feel that dialog and minigame no longer matches.

Story: Overall, it was interesting to see Finley settling in town, making new friends and trying to be a good doctor. But without spoiling too much, in the last hour, suddenly a lot happens and partially does not get resolved properly. Story points are just dropped or very quickly resolved because someone just states what happened, sometimes just shortly after the "mystery" first appeared. It feels as if the devs just wanted to get their story ideas all in there but ran out of time. Very unsatisfying ending, although I do believe that the same story points stretched over a longer time would have worked just fine.

The technical problems alone make it hard to recommend this game, but the story also isn't worth pushing through for.

I genuinely like this game and found it to be a very enjoyable story about the medical industry. The characters are memorable, their small story segments fun, and it's an easy world to immerse oneself in. That said it does have some issues:

- The game has platforming segments, but never really telegraphs that you can save for one segment in the woods.
- The stethoscope rhythm mini game just doesn't work, or works improperly. I found that I had to time my hits a good two "beats" ahead of the game's desired prompt rather than when the prompt would hit the line like in any other rhythm game.
- The game has a bug where it will repeatedly change the aspect ratio of the game. I kept trying to play it in windowed 720, but every time I hit escape it would default to 4k which was very annoying.
- There's still a few dialogue bugs where the sentence structure is wrong or there are typos in the game. Some are small, but the worst ones I noticed when talking to Mr. Arndes.
- I also see why people hated the ending. While I won't totally spoil it, it is a hit and run ending that doesn't really suit the style of game and story that accompanies it. There's also maybe 5 or so pictures during the credits, but only one of them really pertains to the story in a big way.
- Speaking of the ending, their writers are very clearly talented when it comes to writing small moments in order to get you to care about the characters and their lives. Unfortunately they kind of fail to really do that for an important character later, which further weakens the ending.
- As an overall complaint on the story [spoiler]I think they should have either completely scrapped their B plot and solely focused on the A plot, or take more time to fully flesh out and integrate their B plot. As it is Ralph starting a mob that quickly falls ill (likely from the soup everyone had) taking care of them to help Ralph have a change of heart, and get more people interested in helping the hospital would have been a good enough plot on it's own if that had happened. The hospital records being tampered with and the only prior hint to Heidrich being in on it him being shifty eyed all up until Theobald blurts it all out is just poorly done. Going back to one of the above points, him spilling the beans and then immediately dying just comes across as unbelievably cheap. He claims to be coming back to help but then chooses to stay in the fire? Makes it come across more that he chose to die and avoid taking actual accountability rather than live and face the real consequences of his actions.[/spoiler]

However, when all that's said and done, I do think the game is still worth playing for the characters that are written well and are fun. If you're ok with the above (because safe to say the few remaining bugs probably aren't getting fixed), then you'll have a good time, though maybe get it on sale.

WOW! I was very impressed with this game. It took be roughly 11 hours to play through this entire game and I enjoyed every minute of it. I read a few reviews criticizing different things throughout the game but I thoroughly enjoyed how wonderful the art-style was, the progression of character arcs throughout the game, the mystery behind characters, and the plot made me want to keep playing all the way to the end!

As for the mini-games, I think there was enough variety in each of the mini-games yet familiarity that way it did not feel overwhelming. Certain ones seemed a little more challenging than others but I believe the point of this was that the mini games were not the focus of the game- the plot was!

I did not run into any of the bugs or issues other reviews were stating- the game ran smoothly with no issues.

I am really hoping this game creates a sequel as they have the perfect story-line for both game-play and characters but it also does not leave you on a frustrating cliffhanger; I am content either way! But would LOVE a sequel.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not the worst game ever, but it disappointed me deeply in the end. Maybe if you go into it with no expectations, you’ll enjoy it. But I did have expectations — and that’s the problem.

Pros:

+ the graphics
+ the art style
+ the atmosphere of the first two episodes

Cons:
– everything else

Sometimes it’s better to stick to one thing.
Do you want to make a cozy, heartwarming autumn–winter game? Great.
Do you want to make an intense story about the harsh lives of doctors? Wonderful.
Do you want to combine both? That won’t work — especially not when it’s done this poorly.

The first two episodes follow a young intern. The days hardly differ from each other: you go to work, complete some mini-games, and then hang out with friends in the city. Alongside that runs a storyline with a sweet old lady — her death is predictable, yet still sad. Is it interesting? Probably not. Cozy? Very much so. And I enjoyed playing it.

Then the developers decided to add meaning to the game. It didn’t go well. In about an hour of gameplay, you’ll experience a hospital rebellion, an epidemic, a conspiracy, and a fire… Does that make the game more engaging? Oh gods, no. The same repetitive mini-games, the endless running up and down stairs — and that’s basically it.

Maybe they should have stopped after the first two episodes. It would’ve been a simple, charming autumn story — maybe not deep, but still lovely.

As I mentioned above, the gameplay consists of dialogues, location exploration, and mini-games. I liked the dialogues: sometimes silly, sometimes funny, but overall atmospheric. Walking around locations quickly becomes boring, especially when the game wants you to pick a specific route but only tells you that after you’ve already gone halfway down the wrong one.

As for the mini-games… well, they’re something. On one hand, they’re simple. On the other, the rules are explained so poorly that I still can’t figure out why I got an A one time and a C the next for doing the exact same thing. They repeat over and over again — and of course, they get dull.

It’s not like I play a lot of games, but this one is by far the buggiest I’ve ever played. Around the second hour, I ran into a sound bug: dialogues would interrupt the music with an awful screech — it was unbearable. Later, during a basement mini-game, I had to restart several times because the buttons simply refused to work. And by the end, I got a road bug where my character just refused to jump from the upper level to the lower one. Not great for an eleven-hour game.

In short, the game turned out to be a disappointment — and considering how little I expected from it, that makes it all the more painful.

I really wanted to love this game. It has such a beautiful art style, and felt so similar to Night in the Woods. But it has a downright shocking number of bugs, some softlock the game, some break dialog, and the most perplexing one resets your game resolution to 1080p every time you pause the game. The mini-games range from a lot of pure luck to nearly impossible to complete with a controller (you try holding left stick, left d-pad, left trigger, left bumper and A at the same time in 5 seconds).

Ultimately it comes down to the story, which is the reason to play it, and it had some very cute moments and some very likable characters and some nice character relationships forming...that all just get thrown out the window in the end. It takes 8+ hours for the story to actually start to get interesting, and then something dramatic happens and the game just abruptly ends. No finding out what happened to anyone, not even the protagonist. That really wasn't great.

Typowa gra, dla której powinna powstać na Steamie opcja wystawienia opinii mieszanej. „Fall of Porcupine” na pierwszy rzut oka jest urocze. Postaci w formie antropomorficznych zwierząt wraz z ogólną estetyką graficzną oraz tematyka wchodzenia w dorosłość sprawiają, że skojarzenia z „Night in the Woods" narzucają się same. FoP ma jednak mimo wszystko posępniejszy wydźwięk niż NitW. Zwłaszcza biorąc pod uwagę zakończenie.

Co więc zawiodło? Parę istotnych kwestii. Zacznijmy od spraw technicznych. Minigry są całkiem ciekawe (moja ulubiona to ta z dawkowaniem leków), ale potrafią się zawiesić. Brak też dokładniejszego wytłumaczenia sterowania (wyjaśnienia działania niektórych klawiszy nie mamy nawet w menu). Postaciom zdarza się utknąć w lokacji, czasem wymusza to reset.

Oddzielną kwestią jest nasz protagonista. Niby spokojny, lękliwy i obowiązkowy, ale ostatecznie więcej dowiadujemy się o NPC-ach. Sam Finley wypada dość przezroczyście. Byłoby to jeszcze do przełknięcia, gdyby gra oferowała złożony system wyborów fabularnych i tym samym samodzielne kształtowanie charakteru postaci. Jest to tym bardziej rozczarowujące, że do wyraźniejszego sportretowania głównego bohatera nie potrzeba wcale wiele. Drobne wzmianki na temat jego preferencji, relacji i przeszłości mogłyby mu nadać fabularnej głębi.

Wielu odbiorców narzekało na zakończenie i przyznam, że i we mnie pozostawiło poczucie niedomknięcia. Rozumiem zabieg narracyjny, ale zbyt przypominało to urwane w pół zdanie. Poza tym, kuszenie odbiorcy nie do końca zrealizowaną obietnicą rozwiązania zagadki z samego początku akcji jest mało uczciwe.

Czy się nudziłam? Absolutnie nie. Bawiłam się wręcz lepiej niż grając w NitW, ale może to wynikać z interesującej mnie tematyki oraz z wieloletniego przyzwyczajenia do samej formuły cozy przygodówki bez udźwiękowionych dialogów. Polubiłam postaci poboczne oraz samo Porcupine (przypominało mi typowe malownicze miasteczko na północy USA). Pod względem estetyki jest to bardzo jesieniarska gra. Pozytywnie wypadają również dialogi, nieprzeładowane treścią i realistyczne.

Nie znam wielu gier poruszających tematykę ochrony zdrowia, a „Fall of Porcupine” wydaje mi się w tej kwestii tytułem godnym polecenia. Mimo licznych niedociągnięć, ma w sobie urok, który sprawia, że aż chce się wstać razem z Finleyem rano (przeważnie) do pracy i sprawdzić, jak miewają się pacjenci szpitala oraz personel. Średniak, ale pozostający w pamięci.

Fall of Porcupine hat liebevoll gestaltete Charaktere, mit denen ich gerne meine Zeit verbracht habe. Auch die musikalische Untermalung ist gelungen und stimmig. Die Story war eher vorhersehbar, aber dennoch hat sie mich mitgenommen und ich habe mich in Porcupine wohl gefühlt.

Aber leider gab es auch negative Seiten:
- Der Tagesablauf war recht repetitiv. Aufstehen, auf dem Weg zur Arbeit mit ein paar Leuten reden, 3 Minigames an der Arbeit, heim und schlafen. Selten konnte ich nach der Arbeit auch außerhalb der Storyline mit einem von zwei Kollegen Zeit verbringen. Meist wurde ich nach der Arbeit direkt nach Hause geschickt und es stellte sich mir die Frage, ob ich nicht etwas verpasst hatte, um ein Event mit meinen Kollegen zu triggern. Es wäre schön gewesen, die Kollegen zB anschreiben und einladen zu können.
- Die Klinik konnte nicht frei erkundet werden. Ich hätte mir gewünscht, dass dies jederzeit möglich gewesen wäre. Ein, zwei Mal wurde ich zB von Bewohnern darauf angesprochen einen Kollegen aus einer anderen Abteilung zu grüßen, wenn ich sie sehe. Doch das wurde mir dadurch verwehrt, dass ich nicht auf deren Station konnte.
- Treppen und Wege machten es mir nicht immer leicht. Hier hätte die Steuerung durchdachter sein müssen. Auch wäre es schön gewesen, manchmal schneller von A nach B zu kommen. Am Anfang bemerkt Finley ein Fahrrad, welches er gerne später nutzen will. Dazu kommt es leider nie. Dabei hätte ich damit viel schneller durch die Stadt fahren können. Nahm ich den Bus, um mir ein wenig Zeit zu sparen, konnte ich aber nicht mal mehr einen Screen zurück in die Stadt. Unschön, wenn man zumindest einen Teil erkunden will, aber nicht komplett alle Wege mühselig ablaufen will.
- Bugs. Mein größter Kritikpunkt. Manche Minispiele waren fast unspielbar, da Tasteneingaben nicht erkannt wurden. Ab der Hälfte des Spiels hingen manche Dialoge oder das Spiel fror kurzzeitig oder sogar komplett ein. Ab dann war auch immer wieder keine Musik oder andere Geräusche vorhanden. Einen Part musste ich dreimal (!) wiederholen, weil es immer wieder abstürzte. Zum Ende des Spiels wurden auch die Ladezeiten zwischen den Screens deutlich länger. Im dritten Akt war das Spiel dadurch fast unspielbar und ich musste mehrfach komplett neustarten.

Würde ich das Spiel dennoch empfehlen? Ja. Denn es hat eine zwar kurze, aber schöne Story, die zum Nachdenken anregt. Und die kleine Stadt lädt einem zum Verweilen ein. Nur zu gerne würde man sich mit manchen Bewohnern gemütlich zu einem Tässchen Tee zusammen setzen.

Also ich würde sagen das ist ein Spiel was unglaublich schön ist, berührend und emotional. Zwischendurch sogar ein klein wenig gruselig und am Ende auf jeden Fall sehr angespannt. Ich habe lange kein Spiel gespielt was mich so viele verschiedene Emotionen hat spüren lassen. Die Story ist eine 10/10. Das einzig negative ist für mich, das es nicht noch länger ging. Ich hätte es wirklich noch 100h spielen können. Auch am Ende hätte ich mir vielleicht etwas mehr gewünscht, eine After Story oder ähnliches um das erlebte Ende noch ein wenig mehr auswerten zu können. Alles in Allem ein Spiel was ich nur empfehlen kann!

I loved this.
Truly. The doctor-patient interactions are spot on, as is the life of a new intern, the mini games are fun and enjoyable, the story and the vibes/atmosphere of this game is just superb.
I wish the ending had a bit more...substance? it ends quite abruptly and you do kinda get some of it in the end credits but i would really have wished that they'd incorporated it into the game.
there is also a little bit of replay-ability in it because more than once you get to make 2 choices :)
Overall lovely game.

If Steam would be more granular for reviews I would definitely give this a 7/10. The art is great, the animation is great, the characters are (mostly) great. Some are extremely annoying but you can tell they're supposed to be, and some are redeemed! But if you're going into this expecting another Night in the Woods from the graphics, you're going to be disappointed. It's very different tonally.

It's mostly about the drudgery and angst of working for a health care system that's failing because of corporate executive greed. You will get to know the people and the layout of the city, and I generally was entertained and wanted to know what happened to Finley next. I see some people don't understand the ending, but it was quite well explained if you were actually reading the dialogue. It even explains what happened to Finley at the start of the game. Perhaps they added some extra dialogue after launch? Anyhow, I thought the plot was satisfying if you're not looking for a happy ending. This is German!

The things I did dislike:
- There is a very nasty dog guy who is 100% the spitting image / character of the Angry Orange Toddler (Tr***) and you spend the entire second half of the game wanting to punch his stupid evil face. But I wouldn't mark the game down for that, successful writing. :p
- The up/down path choice is extremely touchy, and you can just jump up to a higher path, but not down to a lower path, so lots of wasted time at intersections. If you could just hold down and hit A to jump down it would make traversal so much better.
- It's annoying that you press X to advance and make choices, and no other button will advance, so quite often I found myself accidentally making a choice. There are plenty of unused buttons, please make B advance without choosing!
- There is one platforming sequence to break up the normal flow, and I was 'ooo' but there was never another. All that programming time into making that short sequence, then never used again.
- Ran into the occasional out of sequence conversation (someone referencing something I hadn't done yet) but nothing game breaking and not too often.
- There are some minigames, which are mostly fine, but there's one which is basically guitar hero which is infuriating because sometimes it just refuses to register my button presses (and this is the same controller I use to play Silksong, the controller is not at fault) - I can see the pressed button circle on top of the button circle, aaaand... nothing. X! But getting a B instead of an A on these minigames is not a huge deal, so just annoying. And mostly it works fine.
- The Concentration minigame (which I liked) might be beyond a lot of people, but just look up the solutions on the internet if you have to.

Over all I can't see my self replaying it (there are minor alternate paths depending on who you hang out with), but I'm glad I played it once, so thumbs up.

I really loved this game, it has the same vibes as night in the woods but even better. As someone who works in healthcare it grasps the concept of having to jump patient to patient from one personality to the other. I played this game about a year ago and I still think about it to this day. A perfect fall game. 5 stars.

I wanted an Autumnal game, so went into this without any expectations, other than that it would ring in the season-themed gaming for this year. Unfortunately, I bounced off of it in less than 10 minutes, and while I did endeavour to continue and see if what I played was just a rocky start, I am saddened to report the issues only expanded.

- unskippable splashscreens

- Pushing to have the full dialogue appear means it's sometimes skipped, and is too slow otherwise. They should have made it so that the entire message pops up at once, rather than scrolling in.

- Was assaulted with 8 minutes of dialogue for 2 (if even that much) of gameplay, and on coming back in to idle for cards, and give it more of a chance, I found out what lay beyond: more dialogue.

- Need two playthroughs to get all achievements.

- Cannot skip whole interactions, meaning that unless you knew where to back up your save, you'll need to mash through everything to get the other “one or the other this playthrough” achievements.

- No Chapter selection, either.

- The game never tells you the ability to slow fall by holding Jump is present, meaning merely getting to the window needed for an achievement can frustrate.

- Said achievement is also what caused me to label the game as a lost cause I was better off not forcing myself through: the vent in the hospital gave the same conversation before, and after grabbing the sample, then giving it to the relevant party, outside was night, and everything related to the achievement, blocked off.

How do I set it up again? Smash through the still-too-slow-even-when-skipping dialogue to get back to the hospital, run around there, and re-do all the mini games again...

If one does not at-all care about achievements, and wants a barely-interactive, slow-burn, narrative adventure, this may be your cuppa (tea), but in my case it was not for me.

Честно? Очень хотелось бы похвалить, но не могу. Если вы любите Night in the Woods, то вам должно понравится, но эта игра утащила все те же проблемы и удвоила их, поэтому получить удовольствия так и не получилось. Бессмысленные длинные и пустые локации, где еще и загрузки даже при переходе через мост, при этом главный герой движется со скоростью черепахи. Плохой платформер, хотя бы дозированно. Бессмысленные диалоги? Есть. Как с кучей объектов окружения, так и с персонажами, которые буквально вам могут выдать только звуки ворчания и все это приправлено тонной пауз, от чего непонятно это игра подвисла или забыли добавить закадровый смех. К персонажам я так и не проникся, а что касается сюжета, возможно я проходил небрежно, а возможно многое действительно не было объяснено. Если же в Night in the Woods была всего одна тайна которая нас вела на протяжении всей истории, то тут под конец начинается Армагеддон и непонятно случайность это или коварный замысел. Это было ОЧЕНЬ мучительно, проходить второй раз, чтобы выбить все ачивки нет ни какого желания...

Unique story line. Unique art. Those are the strengths of this game, simple as that. It's a narrative driven game that seeks to give the player an insight into what the western healthcare system can be like. While I do applaud the devs for seeking to give us a unique story line like this, I did find this game to be boring at times. Mostly due to the running from one side of the town to the other without much to do. There are mini games to play but there is nothing "difficult" about this game. You are just here for the linear plot.

Overall - 5/10. There were some unique aspects to this game but overall it was a solid "good" game.

I expected a lot, graphics looked pretty and since the fall is almost here, this game seemed like a good choice.
Not gonna lie, the game on it´s own was boring. You get up, go to hospital, play 3 mini mini games, go home. Sometimes you chat or hangout with someone.
The ending? What the * was that? Something was already thank god happening and boom the game is over. No proper story ending no nothing.
If you want to slow down, enjoy nice sountrack and graphics - okay, go for it. For me it was repetitive a lot which made the game boring.

ich möchte das Spiel wirklich lieben, aber (um direkt mit der Tür ins Haus zu fallen) macht mir das Ende es wirklich schwer. Alles vorher hatte mir und meinen freunden sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Ich denke, wer Night In The Woods mochte, wird Fall of Porcupine vermutlich auch eher mögen; zumindest ist sehr viel Liebe in die Charactere und die Stadt geflossen, das auf jeden Fall.
Aber das Ende hat mich sehr frustriert. Der Spannungsbogen war nicht existent, [spoiler] wir sind direkt von einer relativ "ruhigen" Storyline über Neuanfänge, neue Freundschaften, Job und Druck im Gesundheitswesen in eine Katastrophe nach der anderen gerutscht, was an sich nicht einmal schlecht für die Story wäre, wenn es eine vernünftige Auflösung gäbe. Und es gibt meiner Meinung nach so viele verschiedene Ansätze, wie man ein gutes oder auch nur zufriedenstellendes Ende hätte schreiben können. Stattdessen gab es einfach gar nichts. Es folgten nur Credits, was wirklich wirklich schade für das Spiel ist, da es ein wichtiges Thema behandelt, da sind sich vermutlich alle einig. [/spoiler]

有点像Night in the woods，不过剧情简单，偏流水账。
总体来说就是芬利在豪猪镇的日常，每天往返于住所和圣厄休拉医院间，地图就是两点之间不同的通勤路线，如果只走主线不额外进行任何互动的话，就很像牛马模拟器，每天往返与家和工作地点两处，除了公交外还可以选择不同路线走着来回，很偶尔会有额外的地点比如森林，酒吧和朋友家可以去，不太一样的是芬利是一个完全的100%的三次元人，忙的没有时间打开游戏
结尾戛然而止，其实想想大部分时间就是这样 C'est la vie

Beautiful art, cute characters. I am iffy on the writing, but it's not necessarily bad, just not my cup of tea. The minigames vary in difficulty, and don't always make clear WHAT you should be doing (confusing for me who came back to continue the game after not playing for several months) - would love a retry button on some of them, though I guess including it might ruin the verisimilitude of medicine practiced by cartoon animals.

A couple glitches: 1. music just sometimes goes out, which is a shame because it's generally pretty nice and soothing. 2. In act 2, I sometimes can't access my cell phone menu AT ALL - the prompt to access it pops up, but i hit 'I' and nothing happens, and I can't move the game forward. Same thing when using a controller instead of keyboard. Sometimes I exit and try again and it works, but it's getting real old and I would like to get past this day.

Wish steam had a 'middle of the road' review option. Overall my impression is more positive than not! Perhaps my opinion will continue to develop if I can get through Act 2 and see where the story goes.

This game is a tragically beautiful slice of what we know as the healthcare system. The story is thought provoking and moving. This game highlights the difference between the healthcare workers and the systems that they work for. Although this isn't even a speck of what healthcare workers go through, it has given me an even greater appreciation for their service.

If you appreciate thoughtful and meaningful storytelling you will enjoy this game. I would compare the storytelling to the likes of Spiritfarer - and I do not say that lightly!

This game left me speechless. Initially I thought that it's just a walking simulator/visual novel with silly looking characters, but I could not be more wrong. The atmosphere quickly pulled me in and I found myself feeling deeply for the main protagonist and his friends. You really start caring about Porcupine. The story carries in itself a very important message about healthcare workers and how they are never appreciated enough. All in all, this game is a meaningful story with chill minigames and great soundtrack.

Ich habe heute nach gefühlten Ewig und drei Tagen das Spiel beenden können. Leider. Ich finde dies war, bis auf den zwischenzeitlichen Verlust meines Speicherstandes, ein absolut grandioses Spiel. Welches die Probleme des Gesundheitssystems sehr gut darstellt. Es ist sehr Cozy, jedoch nicht nur. Es macht traurig und wütend, nachdenklich. Das Spiel lässt einen fühlen und verzweifeln. Für mich eines der besten Spiele seit langem. Danke, für dieses grandiose Spiel.

Cozy small-town feels, emotional trauma, and finger-Twister surgery. Loved the vibes, cried at the story, still mad at the ending. Would recommend... on discount.

I really enjoyed this game overall. The story and characters are genuinely heartfelt. I laughed, I cried, I got way too emotionally attached to a nervous pigeon. It's a cozy, emotional ride that isn't afraid to shine a light on the flaws of the healthcare system. The art style? Stunning. Proper atmospheric and full of charm.

The mini games though.... playing with a controller felt like finger twister. One treatment game had my hands in knots. Luckily, the game doesn't punish you for failing them, which is good because i definitely did.

There were days where not much happened, which was fine for the vibe. But the ending? It felt really rushed. The story suddenly went full throttle with no build up and then just.... ended. I still have questions.

There's replay value, with side quests and some different choices, but most choices don't seem to change much. I wish there was a chapter select instead of having to replay the whole thing.

It's a beautiful, mostly relaxing game with some real emotional weight. Worth a play, but maybe wait for a sale.

Unfortunately, I found this story to have a very unsatisfying ending, janky minigames, not enough tension or heart to the story, and lots of running to and fro but not enough fun surprises or platforming to make the experience memorable or interesting. It just feels like fluff. And the game overall would benefit from voice acting

That said, it's super cute, and it does have lots of potential to be an amazing game. I'd suggest a more interesting ending (Theobold sets off the flu to try and "prove" to the town that they need him or something, ironically destroying the thing he's trying to save), some purpose to running around town and up and down the floors, and no more of the music note minigame, it was soooo frustrating! The others were pretty fun, though
