Takes you back to 1991. Still addictive after all these years. What a great fun game, not just a flight sim but stealthy as well. Easy enough to fly so you can concentrate on the strategy and tactics. Completed three strike and air missions for all for theatres. Felt like I just won the 3rd World War. I'll be back.

Taí um jogo da minha adolescência e juventude. Um verdadeiro "Uau!" no final dos anos 80. Com um PC 8088 e monitor de fósforo verde e, depois, um 80286 com um disco rígido, passei horas e horas jogando com o som do falante original, sem placa de som. Imaginando como seria pilotar uma aeronave de verdade em combate nos diversos cenários. Mais de trinta e cinco anos depois, continuamos a jogar de vez em quando. Com o mesmo "motor gráfico" do F-15 Strike Eagle II. Na época em que a arte da caixa e material incluso, como manuais e layout de teclado com as teclas de atalho ajudavam no realismo.

One of the better examples of a retro title out there. Also has adlib support, unlike most versions you can get on the high seas.

Best Combat sim ever
Gyerekkorom egyik legmeghatározóbb DOS-os szimulátora. Mikor megláttam a kínálatban nagyon örültem és éltem a lehetőséggel! Egyébként ha még a futtatás előtt ENG - US billentyűzetkiosztást választunk az operációs rendszeren, természetesen csak a játék idejére, akkor az alapértelmezett irányítás működni fog. Én ezt találtam a legegyszerűbb módjának a másutt is jelzett irányítási problémáknak. A játék végeztével visszaállítom a saját nyelvre a billentyűzetkiosztást, ez pedig jó esetben pár kattintással megoldható.
This was one of my most enjoyable flight sims during the gaming golden years. Unfortunately, the DOSBOX version which is sold here with it (no it is not a port, it is an emulated version no less) has several issues and the dreaded "=" bug on the dosbox version.
I had to heartbrokenly ask for a refund. :(
This is a genre defining flight sim. With graphics and customization way before its time, F-19 stands out as a legend of the 1990s.

游戏推出时因显示器的牌号还比较杂，因此游戏加了一些启动参数。以F19战斗机的游戏为例，主控文件名为F19.EXE，启动时可加的参数有：

游戏玩法：
在标题画面后游戏要求辨认机型，如答错会被送去训练，答对了才可进入战斗的选单。
登录飞行员名册时可选择已有的人，也可用Esc键删除原有的名字，输入自己的名字。名字后的KIA表示已经阵亡，ACTIVE表示随时待命，RETIRE表示完成99次飞行任务已退役。画面上方显示已获得的勋章及其数量、飞行纪录等。
然后游戏会随机生成一个任务，如果满意就按Accept assignment开始游戏，否则按Change assignment自定义任务类型。
自定义任务时，首先选择战区，可在下面4个战区中挑选一个：
（1）利比亚（Libya）：任务比较容易；
（2）波斯湾（Persian Gulf）：任务较难；
（3）北岬（North Cape）：任务很难；
（4）中欧（Central Europe）：任务极难。
然后选择战争类型，有冷战（Cold War）、有限战争（Limited）和传统战争（Conventional War）3种。冷战的重点是空中摄影侦察、秘密飞行及摧毁特定目标，有限战争比冷战有所升级，传统战争为最高级。
游戏中的任务种类（Type of Mission）包括空对空战斗（Air-to-Air Mission）、空对地战斗（ Strike Mission）和训练任务（Training Mission）。训练任务包括前两种的任务，但是不受伤害，也没有任何分数。
其次是敌人的能力等级（Opponent Quality），这个选项用于选择游戏的难易的程度，分为：新手（Green Opponents）、普通（Regular Opponents）、老兵（Veteran Opponents）及精锐（Elite Opponents）。
再次是飞机着陆方式，可用无坠机方式（No Crash）、简易式降落（Easy Landing）、实际降落（Realistic Landings）3种，无坠机方式要得分和得勋章都不容易，简易式降落对升级影响不大，但得不到最高勋章，实际降落不会被扣分，有可能得到最高勋章。
最后就是目标地图（Intelligence Briefing）画面，图中包括起飞点（T）、主要目标（P）和次要目标（S），并指出降落地点（L）。此外还可以查看任务目标、敌方雷达的类型和分布、防空导弹的射程、空军基地位置及储存的敌机数量、我军飞行计划、当天的特殊事件等。
之后进入武器装备选择，共有18种装备可分配，按照不同任务选择不同的配置：
1、4枚AIM9空对空导弹（射程20KM）；
2、3枚AIM120空对空导弹（射程35KM）；
3、1枚AGM88反雷达导弹（射程20KM）；
4、2枚PENGUN3反舰导弹（射程32KM）；
5、1枚AGM84反舰导弹（射程60KM）；
6、2枚AGM65空对地导弹（射程20KM）；
7、2枚GBU12激光制导炸弹；
8、2枚MK20惯性制导集束炸弹；

F-19 Stealth Fighter is like an older version of the F-117 Stealth Fighter game. They share a few maps but F-117 has more maps, F-117 looks better, the menus are nicer too. So compared to that one what does this one offer? I have no clue. In both games even after using the manual I could not fly. The buttons don't seem to work, some of them do things but none of them raise the throttle so I can take off. I do use a Turkish keyboard with extra characters and all so maybe thats the reason?
-There's 0 reason to buy this over the F-117 version. That one has more maps, better menus and still the same non-working keyboard buttons so you can't fly in either game but over there you get to see better looking menus and a few different maps. I think the devs realized this too because if you watch the trailer on Steam at the end you'll see that they don't actually show the picture of an F-19. They show an F-117 and just wrote "F-19 Stealth Fighter Now Available on Steam" underneath it.
Hopefully one day I'll figure out the controls to these older games. Probably not. I bought these games so long ago and back then I couldn't figure out the controls and now several years later with the help of the manuals I still can't figure out the controls.

Great nostalgia comeback. I learned to love flight simulators with this and JetFighter for the IBM AT PC. I'd love for a comeback to this kind of flight simulator where there's a middle between arcade and sim, and with lots of missions and planes to choose from.
Era 1994, eu em frente a um 386 SX 66 com DOS 5.0 e Windows 3.1. Eu com 14 anos; Meu pai ao meu lado me ensinando a jogar esse maravilhoso simulador, que pra mim era perfeito pra época. Então foi aí que ele foi fazer uma viagem a trabalho, mas voltaria depois de 3 dias. Pedi pra ele deixar anotado em um papel os principais comandos pra jogar, ele anotou tudo e me deu o papel pra eu me divertir enquanto ele estivesse fora. Perdi meu pai num acidente de carro quando ele estava voltando dessa viagem... Guardo até hoje com muito carinho essa folha de caderno com as instruções de como jogar. Sempre jogo esse game e cada uma das medalhas que recebo, pode parecer a coisa mais idiota do mundo, mas dedico a ele assim como todas as demais vitórias em minha vida. Descanse em paz, meu querido pai!

Fun as hell
As a player of "F-19 Stealth Fighter," I can say that it was a highly enjoyable game for its time. The graphics were top-notch for the era and the flight physics felt realistic, making the game challenging and satisfying to play. The variety of missions, ranging from reconnaissance to bombing, kept things interesting and the stealth aspect added a unique twist to the traditional flight simulator formula.
30 years later, it's still amazing :D

I have been playing this game since the days of real floppy disks. Fun and simple to play. Nice way to unwind. The one draw back is they never figured out a way to have radar behave naturally ie be unable to read me from the other side of a massive mountain. Overall. worth it for fans of old school flight sims. 5 Stars!

It was 1988, my house had a vhs copy of Top Gun and my parents are dragging me to Softwarehouse. We are getting our first PC, a 286 12mhz with .5mb of ram and a 20mb hdd. I have been told I can have two games. I don't have an NES. We have an old Atari. These are MY first video games. I choose wisely.
I get Space Quest II from Sierra Online and I get F-19. I remember the box being red but being that same pic of a F-19. No way a Top Gun quoting 3rd grader was passing this up.
I would learn later in life that this was also the beginning of my love of Sid Meier games. Civ players, this game was designed by the same video game hall of famer. He also developed the great F-15 Strike Fighter.
The manual became my bathroom reading material. Partly cause of the game's DRM and partly cause I was an obsessive kid going all in on fighters. You really should check out this game's manual. Its from the golden age of game manuals, so much content.
There was nothing like this on consoles back then. This had polygons. This was complex. I'd never have an NES. Thanks to sims like this and Sierra quest games I went PC master race in the 80s.
There is line of dominos that starts with F-19 and ends with a 20+ year career in pc hardware.
Steam version plays just fine on my PC. I desperately need a paper keyboard overlay.

Awesome game i used to play on my C64.
A Classic simulator, it takes a bit of a learning curve, but is still fun.
Absolute belter of a game. Played this and F117A and the original Gunship! back in the nineties on a Commodore Amiga 500 then on a 1200 Amiga. (also played Gunship! and F19 on a Commodore C64 complete with wire frame graphics!) Later played on a PC not as good as on the Amiga's. but then no PC is as good as the Amiga.
The game still is one of the best OK I am lucky I still got the original manuals, maps and keyboard overlays etc. which makes the games much more enjoyable for me than for those who do not. So here I am a 68 year old playing these games from decades ago which says a lot about the standard of gameplay from Microprose. In fact I am still playing my Microprose collection Gunship!, F19, F117A, Pirates!, Red Storm Rising, etc. on the Amiga 1200 (how many pc's form the eighties are still going strong?) but well done to those involved in bringing this and other classics to a new generation.

Full 3D and open world. Playing this I have learned the look of planes and geography of game regions.
Unfortunately i can't recommend buying this. The game is bugged with long mission bug that will mess up your map, screen and cannon if you fly for too long. This kills all the fun. I don't remmeber this happen on original 386 hardware. Too bad so-called developers (they just picked the game and bundle it with dosbox) don't give a damn.

F-19 war früher ein sehr gutes Spiel, im Prinzip ist es immer noch ein gutes Spiel, allerdings ist es technisch deutlich in die Jahre gekommen. Insofern sollte man hier nicht all zu viel erwarten.
Das gilt insbesondere für die jungen Spieler, die heute technisch wesentlich besseres gewohnt sind, die werden eventuell nicht mit diesem Spiel glücklich werden.
Die alten Hasen, die das Spiel sicherlich noch aus Nostalgiegründen spielen wollen, bekommen genau das, was sie damals in ihrer Kindheit gespielt haben.
Das Spiel läuft im EGA Modus mit 16 Farben. Eine echte dynamische Kampagne, bei der die Erfolge früherer Missionen den Kriegsverlauf beeinflussen, gibt es nicht. Im Prinzip beschränkt sich die Notierung des Erfolgs auf die Pilotenlaufbahn und dessen Punktestand.
Zu beachten ist allerdings, dass man die DOSBox mit einem US Tastaturlayout startet, denn sonst kann man die Triebwerke im Spiel nicht starten. Dieses Problem gab es auf dem DOS PC schon damals, ich erwähne das aber trotzdem, da der ein oder andere es sicherlich auf dem Amiga gespielt hat, wo es dieses Problem möglicherweise nicht gab..
Der DOS Befehl "keyb us" bzw. eine Änderung der Konfigurationsdatei löst das Tastaturproblem.
Startet man über Steam das Spiel, dann wird die Konfigurationsdatei "dosbox_f19sf_launch_windows.conf", welche sich im In Spieleverzeichnis "F-19 Stealth Fighter\dosbox_windows" befindet, ausgewertet.
In dieser sollte man mit einem einfachen Editor den obigen Befehl "keyb us" nach dem EIntrag "c:" in einer neuen Zeile eintragen und die Konfigurationsdatei dann abspeichern.
Wenn man nun das Spiel startet, wird die DOSbox auf ein US Tastaturlayout umgestellt und somit ist das Spiel dann auch benutzbar.
Leider scheint das Spiel unter der DOSBox hin und wieder abzustürzen, es sollte aber kein Problem sein, die Spieldateien einfach auf einen alten PC rüberzukopieren, wenn man einen hat und das Spiel dann auf diesem ohne Emulation zu starten.

I originally played this on a 386 computer with 4MB of sys RAM and an integrated graphics chip. It came on a single floppy disk and played via DOS. I played this virtually every day until it's sucessor F-117A Nighthawk Stealth Fighter 2.0 (which had slightly better and more colorful graphics) and the first of Sid Meiers Civilization games were released in 1991 and loved it to death. Back then the graphics were basic compared to todays amazing flight sims. At the time I never imagined the realism we would have today would be available in my lifetime. Even though the graphics are very basic, I can still happily play this game today. It would be several years before we could play more realistic and better combat flight sims (not counting Microsofts Flight Sim, which did have a combat add-on and which I purchased v4 about a year after F-19 Stealth Fighter was released; however, at the time I much preferred the Micropose stealth fighter to the more commercial Microsoft version).
I loved the various missions that were available and the theatres of war you could choose to fight in. You could play either in a cold war setting where stealth was your number one priority; getting in and out without being detected by enemy radar, and where fuel consumption became very important as you'd have to fly around the radar pulses that you could see on your monitors. I also enjoyed playing the other modes (limited and conventional warfare), though I much preferred the former, that said I did enjoy the occasional dog fight in a more conventional setting.
Once you've played through the initial tutorials such as taking off and landing; (which I remember took me ages to get right) and using the various keyboard commands to bring up different displays on the HUD; for example, the radar or a map showing your waypoints, you'd move on to your pre fight orders, then on to selecting the various ordinace you would require for the mission you had chosen. For me these were all enjoyable part of the game. If you didn't select the right missiles for the type of mission you were undertaking, you would more than likely either not return, or at the very least fail your mission. You also had to balance the amount of ordinace you took to the amount of fuel you carried, as you could if not careful be flying on fumes before you returned to base and would then find your plane in a cloud of what now looks like very weird looking smoke. If you died, you'd have to start a new character; your dead pilot coming up in the roster as KIA or deceased (I can't remember which offhand). Thankfully, there was an eject command that you could use if you did run out of fuel, or your plane was hit catastrophically. This would enable you to bail out and continue your career. If you bailed out in enemmy territory, you'd get a newspaper headline saying you'd been captured and then exchanged for one of their own.
For me the main draw to this game was the varius controls; the dials and displays were more fun than the actual flying, though I also loved to select the ordinance. Sometimes, I'd just load up with my favorite missiles and just blast away at various targets before makeing a run for home. I'd fail the mission, but hey, it was only a game and a lot of fun, especially if I successfully hit lots of targets and even more fun if I managed to shoot down an enemy plane or two, which incidentally was hard, especially if I'd not loaded enough AIM's. You could fly in real time, but I would usually increase the time frame to cut down on the flying times to the target, but more so on the return journey after completing a mission, otherwise a mission could take over an hour to complete.
The game does come with a pdf version of the original manual (I still have the original stashed away up in the attic) which is accesible from the right hand menu when you open your Steam library to the F-19 Stealth Fighter. The original game also came with a keyboard overlay (which you can find online [url=https://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/f-19-stealth-fighter/cover-art/gameCoverId,451095/][b]HERE[/b][/url]. There are several to be found if you Google [b]keyboard overlay for the F-19 Stealth Fighter[/b]. You can pick up the original manual for as little as a few £/$ via E.Bay, and usually it comes with the overlay and the original disks, though I've also seen it for as much as £25/$30.
Most simulation games came with a keyboard overlay due to the number of keys you needed to remember to play the game, for example deploying chaff, changing your ordance to the correct one when attacking, switching on the radar, ILS, IR Jammer, System Damage, Flares, Auto Pilot, Reset Waypoints, various views either in cockpit or off plane such as slot view, chase plane, side view etc. You could even select views of your missile in flight either as a tactical or inverse tactical view. Brilliant. I loved following my missiles flight right to the target.

F-19 Stealth Fighter неплохой авиа симулятор для 1988 года. Сложный в управлении и не привлекательный для современных геймеров. Знание английского и великое терпение что бы прошерстить всю клавиатуру и найти всё управление строго обязательно. Только для тех кому за 40 и эта игра является для него игрой детства. И да поможет вам великое и гигантское руководство прилагающееся к игре. Хотя по мне так легче проверить все 114 клавиш клавиатуры.

One of my all-time favorite flight sims. A little slow-paced at times; emphasis is on simulation and realism as opposed to action, but if you're more concerned with a realistic experience flying a craft whose main advantage is stealth then this game is for you!
10/10 could fly. You can fly, but first you have to take the brakes off with "0" key and then use the "¿" key and tap it until you reach the desired speed and "?" key to decrease it. Then you use the arrow keys to maneuver. A lot of people had problems trying to find the keys to at least do the basics. Just fly. I would make a good review but I just couldn't get myself to learn to play another simulator, I've already played Silent Service and had enough with manuals. Looks like a decent simulator with an interesting manual to read if you really like aviation. I may or may not play this again to write a review.
VERIDICT:
I'll still recommend it to people that love aviation. If you're curious, you can try it. Just be aware that you need patience to play this. And to read the manual.

When I was in the 10th grade or so, my best friend and I had bonded over a shared love of jets and military stuff. Plus we were both generally nerds in every sense of the word. He used to come over to my house and I'd load this up on my old 386. He wasn't very good at flying with a joystick, and since this game has so many keyboard commands (seriously, download and print out a keyboard guide off the net if you want to play this), he'd run tactical/nav with the keyboard and I'd pilot.
We got fairly good, where we were playing on Veteren difficulty. We'd racked up a few medals, earned some ranks, and since we thought we were superheroes, we decided to go for the highest score possible. We loaded up with the best missiles we could find and set out. Our goal was to not only destroy the primary and secondary objectives, but take out any targets of opportunity we came across.
We did, we spent every single missile and every single bullet, taking out tanks, convoys, bridges, SAM sites, enemy fighters, airports, you name it. By the time we were done we were completely out of fuel and ammo. We had to coast in for a landing, but we made it! Then the debriefing screen, then the ranks and medals. We got at least 4 or 5 medals on that mission, including the Congressional Medal of Honor! We were screaming, we thought that was the coolest thing ever. And still, 25 years later, we talk about that epic mission.
Well, I'm happy to report that this game still works perfectly. I have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, it got picked up and works fine. I downloaded a keyboard shortcut sheet off the internet and sent my friend a picture of it, said "Hey, I have a working copy of this, wanna play?" 10 minutes later he's at the house with a few beers, we fired the game up, and, well... it wasn't quite just like riding a bike. But a few missions later and we were stomping heads just like old times, it was great!
This game has a full damage model, with various info screens you can switch to. You can get a camera view of your target, or you can look at your fuel/waypoints, you can check damage, look at mission objectives, and that's all on the right screen. The left screen lets you switch between a nav map and a radar. In the middle is your radar signature. The filled area at the bottom is how much signature you're giving off, then you can see radar pings coming down from the top. Red bars are ground radar and blue bars are air radar.
The goal is to stay low and slow enough to keep your signature down, sneak in, take out the targets, and sneak out. It's very tense and satisfying. Maybe there's a SAM site pinging hard, and it's causing a lot of problems for you. There's nothing quite like taking out that monster with a sneak attack before it sees you. If someone does get a ping on you, you'll start getting notifications like "F-5 taking off from such and such airbase" as they scramble jets to look for you. Watch out for the F-4's, they have mean radar capabilities.
So yeah, pick this up. They don't make games like this any more. Horrific graphics aside, this is still one of the best flight sims ever made!

Jednym zdaniem: F-19 Stealth Fighter to był pierwszy symulator myśliwca,w jaki grałem na przełomie lat 80/90. I grało się całkiem fajnie, chociaż fanem tego gatunku nie zostałem. Niestety F-19 po latach bardzo skapciał i zupełnie zatracił tę grywalność. Gra tak bardzo się zestarzała, że nawet nostalgia nie pomaga.

C64-en nagy kedvencem volt :) most újra nyomulhatok rajta, igaz ez a DOS verzio. C64-n jobb volt az intro zenéje :D Nos az irányítással kezdetben gondom volt, de hozzá adott dosbox f19 config kis átírása után minden oks magyar billenyűvel is :) Steam témákban találtam a megoldásra! És ráadásul xbox és normál konzollal is müködik :) gombkiosztást is lehet csinálni, szóval egész szuper lett :) Persze aki nem bírja a pixeleket annak nem ajánlott :) game history és öreg gamereknek alap repcsi szimulátor! :D
Sweet merciful crap. It's back! It's really back!
One of my earliest memories from when I was a tiny micro-kid back in ancient times was going to my grandpa's house and seeing this game on his computer. He had a tendency to earn distinguished flying crosses and then die horribly before he could get back to base. ... Anyway. I naturally sank about 11 billion hours into this game before the advent of things like graphics and operating systems that weren't DOS came along and drew me into other things.
But now it's back! Having tried it out (And earning a distinguished flying cross and then dying before getting back to base on my first mission; grandpa would be proud.) I can say it is still epic and awesome. ..Probably. You might have had to have been there back when it came out to really -get it.- And by that I mean it doesn't really have graphics. Or decent sound. Or a particularly responsive flight model. But dammit it's a piece of my childhood and I love it to death for that. Plus, you know, it has on the fly generated missions that nothing else does. And who doesn't want to strive for those super shiny medals you can awarded after a mission if you do good? Or try to survive 99 missions and make it to brigadier general? You know you want to. And besides, it's super cheap to buy. Who doesn't love cool cheap things?
11/10 for people who thirst for nostalgias.
7.5/10 for people who like old school cheap things that are also good, but who might not have played the original or have any idea what's going on when they try to fly the plane or why things keep exploding.
This game took up a large portion of my childhood. A wonderful flight sim, with a good amount of tactics involved. Even the manual is worth a read with the details and tactics it provides.
However, some machines have an issue with Dosbox not properly recognizing the = key, which prevents you from being able to throttle forward and thus leaves you stuck on the runway in game. After some searching, I found this to be an issue with Dosbox and some Windows drivers. Once I fixed it, the game worked wonderfully again.
If you have this issue, check if Windows has installed one of your keyboards as Japanese/106/109, and reinstall it as a standard generic.

О боже Реталятор..... сколько лет прошло.
Старый добрый симулятор... Когда-то признан игрой года, если я не ошибаюсь, в 1989-м... В отрочестве просто заигрывался им, слегка кривясь от сложности клавиатурного управления... А тут - снова в бой. И, надо сказать, навыки не растерял.
Рекомендую всем, кто хочет отдохнуть душой от всего новомодного, кто скучает по временам ДОС-игр... Отличная игрушка, по-прежнему 10 из 10 :)
Ностальгия по детству!!! Игра просто супер. Теперь летаю с джойстиком. Кто играл в 90-х у родителей на работе - поймет:) 10 из 10 за положительные эмоции.
Słaba grafika, słaby dźwięk. Nie może się równać do wersji z Amigi. Pomimo grafiki SVGA ilość kolorów w grze to zaledwie 16. Lepiej będzie abym nie psuł sobie wspomnień wersją z klona i uruchomił wersję F-19 na Amidze.
You know those stories about "my first bike" or "my first trip to disneyworld?" Well this is "my first flight sim." I'll even say that it stands up well against some from today. It offers an incredible amount of realism and depth, especially for its time, and challenges in many ways. This is a fantastic game for anyone, as long as you can remember all the keybindings. And don't feel bad if you can't do a carrier landing; just eject nearby and you'll still clear.
F19 Stealth Fighter is a gem from Microprose of late 1980s.
Early Microprose released several fight simulators which gradually became better and better, especially from gameplay perspective. F19 is the top Microprose game before Civilization and it has the last Sid Meier's flight simulator gameplay, the endpoint of Sid's flight evolution if you will.
F19's gameplay is a brilliant mixture of flight simulator and stealth. To my knowledge, currently it is still unique. In other words, you will not find a similar gameplay in modern games.
The core idea is the following. You, as a pilot of a stealth plane, go into the night far behind enemy front lines to hit special targets. The sky is full of patrolling MiG's, a lot of SAM's keep watch, and any clue or radar blip can alarm and the enemy will start to intensively search you. To be stealthy, you need to use landscape, watch the radar's and plane's activities, and, the most important, understand doppler and impulse radars and make relatively flight according to them (skim the manual due to it is a core feature).
Beware, the controls is tricky and you have to read the manual to take off and use weapons.
The game is realistic and not very hardcore, but deep and replayable. There are three types of bombs (among >20 weapons) with different way of using (bombing), more then ten types of targets (bunkers, ships, SAM, ...). Enemy units are randomly generated and you will have to think how to sneak through the enemy, hit target/take photo, and safely back home.
If you prefer better graphic you can look at the game "F-117A Nighthawk Stealth Fighter 2.0". It has the same gameplay, but more pixels and more scenarios.
F-19 is my favorite DOS game. The game has enough fun and humor.
All game's mission are random. You will never find identical missions. So the game is very interesting relative to some boring modern air combat games.

NON FUNZIONA !!!!
I can't even say this is just nostalgia, I played this well into adulthood (under the impression it was abandonware). I'm glad I can finally absolve my guilty conscience of all those pirated hours. This must be the first time I've ever heard the sound effects as they were meant to be heard instead of just beeps and bloops, too.
PRO TIPS FROM THE PROS:
- Tired of hearing the engine whine? alt + v will let you cycle through different levels of sound. All but the highest leave out engine noises.
- On a long boring stretch of flying back to your landing site, with nothing to do in the meantime? Alternate hitting shift + z and shift + x every couple of seconds. Shift + z speeds up time, but only seems to work for a few seconds. shift + x puts you back into normal mode.
- The way to earn the big points is on Cold War, not Conventional War. You make more points for flying around unseen than you ever could from blowing stuff up
- If your game is running really choppily and your controls suck, it's not the game. What you're experiencing is lag. "Lag? This game? On my modern machine? How could that be?" Well, DOSBox isn't emulating a modern machine. Throw some more cycles it's way with ctrl f12. Somewhere in the 15000 cycles range will cure all your problems (default is 3000)

Brings back memories of the original game. No control overlay or play information available, had to look it up and memorize controls. Too bad it wasn't updated with a save game feature. When your character dies that profile is finished and you have to start over.
Can only recommend it when it is on sale.

One of the things I like about the game is it works on Windows 10 without any issues. When this game was released my Brother and I fought over who got to play it first. this game has a lot of good things to say about it like the level of realism it's almost as if the missions are part of an Admiral's handbook and you get to read it. you get to fly into places like Iran and Lybia and you can play it in 3 different modes. I can't say that I have made it through one mission I can't even say that I have made it to the first target but with practice comes perfection. for a game that was released in 1988 this is one of the favorites I keep coming back to. this simulation is more realistic than some of the games that have been released recently. I would recommend this game to everyone Thumbs up.

Night Dive Studios has been able to get the rights to F-19 Stealth Fighter and make it available again commercially like this, which is great.
You won't see a lot of playtime on this game on my account yet as of when I'm writing this review, but that's because I played this game bunches as a kid and as of this writing just launched this version to be sure it was working etc.
This was a fun game I enjoyed. It's a simulation in that there's a lot of things to keep track of (how you first successfully take off by actually getting the momentum and then getting yourself to lift off the ground, how you deploy chaff when being targeted, how you go after mission objectives and try not to be captured, etc.). I'm actually super happy it's available again like this.
That said, I recommend reading the game instructional material linked to from the game page. Back in the day, even I as a veteran player would sometimes forget which key would push the throttle to max or get the brakes to quit so that I started moving forward, and referring to at least jotting down some keys common to my play was useful since the game is spending visual space on your cockpit and not on what keys interact with that cockpit.
Also, recommend saying YES to playing with a joystick when you launch the game. The game is really played with a joystick with the keyboard having some supplemental actions on it that were too excessive for the two (at the time) joystick buttons. The way Night Dive has packaged this with DOSBox means current gamepads will work as your joystick if you wake them up before launching the game - whatever counts as the first two buttons on the gamepad or flightstick or whatever you have will be the two buttons that the game listens to.
I know Night Dive released Strife: Veteran Edition and I've heard their involved in rescuing other games that have disappeared from apparent ownership before... I'm glad to see this on here and I'm about to click on their link to see what else they've rescued so far. Kudos to Night Dive for bringing this out!
