A charming, first-person, grid-based, dungeon-crawler RPG. Graphics are really well-made, the little music that exists is very good. The combat starts off fun by feeling more interactive than other games at the time, and it's especially fun being able throw basically everything you own at the face of the enemies, however, it gets really tiresome in the long run to keep hitting the attack buttons and evading never stops feeling awkward.

Exploring the levels are fun and thanks to the auto-mapper mod included you don't have to draw on graph paper to have an idea where you're going.

On the downside, the game feels very obtuse with key items hidden beyond secret walls that's nearly impossible to find. It doesn't feel balanced at all: unless you have a specific party composition, you're making the game much harder for yourself. Having no cleric is basically super duper hard difficulty, for instance. I would have a similar complaint with some of the enemy types. Some enemies can poison you, leading you to a practical softlock if you don't have some kind of anti-poison prepared.

Works out of the box. The addons bring a Quality of Life update to the game with the option to play as it were back in the day, or leverage tools like automapper to not have to manually map the levels.

The manual and clue books are also within this version.

Great nostalgia and really fun.

I originally played this on the SNES and couldnt beat it, but was fi ally able to this time around. Now onto EOB 2!

I grew up on Wizardry and the like, we didn't get these games. Playing it now is fantastic! It's like a light version of those. Great fun.
