La prima mezz'ora di "gioco" in realtà l'ho passata a trovare un modo per farlo funzionare. Ho dovuto configurare il joypad perché giocare con la tastiera non era fattibile, cosa apparentemente strana per una avventura PEC. Peccato che la parte "punta e clicca" non esiste proprio in questo gioco! Rispetto agli altri capitoli viene infatti stravolto il sistema di movimento ed interazione, rendendo l'esperienza di gioco molto più ostica: a volte Guybrush si incastra, altre volte è difficile uscire dalle stanze ecc. Rispetto agli altri capitoli mi è anche crashato un paio di volte, perciò consiglio di salvare spesso (non si può settare autosalvataggio). Non a caso è l'unico MI che giocherò solo due volte: la prima sulla PS2 all'epoca e la seconda mentre scrivo questa recensione su PC.

I dialoghi e la storia purtroppo non salvano questo titolo della saga di MI dal mio giudizio negativo. Anche le musiche hanno sempre il loro fascino, mentre alcuni puzzle sono a mio avviso senza senso. Il Monkey Kombat non mi è dispiaciuto, come invece è successo a molti, ma i duelli di spada con insulti annessi sono molto meglio.

Guybrush is back and needs to solve government problems, what a game!

There's so many problems with this game, I don't even know how to start. First, the 3D is awful, I know it's an old game and all but good lord, this is a 2D only game. Then there's the gameplay, it's not a point and click game anymore, no clicking, just keyboarding (?) and it is bad.

Finally, you can't mess with the configs, the game starts in fullscreen and locks you in that screen, you can't even alt+tab.

Overall, a bad MI experience, I couldn't even finish.

Otro clasico de LucasArts que no puede faltar en las bibliotecas de los que aman las aventuras graficas. Si bien este Monkey Island es el mas flojito de los 4 primeros, no deja de tener sus momentos graciosos e iconicos. Al tener un motor 3d ya anticuado es que el peor envejecio de los clasicos. Aun asi, me parece que merece una oportunidad y se divertiran. 8/10

Escape from Monkey Island vie Apinasaariseikkailut ensimmäistä kertaa 3D-muottiin ja käyttää Grim Fandangon myötä tutuksi tullutta GRIM moottoria. Ulkoasu ja tunnelma uhkuu Apinasaarta tuttujen ääninäyttelijöiden ja säveltäjien säestämänä. Komedia on omituisella tavalla erilaisempaa kuin aiemmissa Apinasaarissa, joka on alkuun melko vierastavaa, mutta onneksi mukana on sentään ihan osumiakin huumorin kukkimisen kohdalla. Kokonaisuutta varjostaa kamalahko Monkey Kombat minipeli, joka vie ison osan peliajasta seikkailun loppupuolella. Cuidado: o jogo quebra o seu save! Se você quer jogar Escape from Monkey Island, evite a versão nativa e vá direto para a emulação. O port é tão bugado que impede o progresso; precisei recorrer a arquivos de salvamento de terceiros para não desistir. Embora tenha suas qualidades, é definitivamente o 'patinho feio' da saga e pode te estressar mais do que divertir devido aos problemas técnicos.

Worst Showing of the Monkey Island series. I'm glad I skipped this one back in the day, I tried it out of the need to complete and finish every Monkey Island title out there. This one, well where do I begin. Controls are clunky. This is a throwback to the era this game came out in. Put 3D monkey island shows its limits. The jokes and writing were actually good. Then...you get to "Monkey Kombat" the designers were on something highly illegal when they created that system...

Two words: Monkey Kombat.

Honestly, apart from that, I actually really love this game. It's warm, zany and has nice music. I particularly like Luca Island's town ambient song. I just hum it away while I play.

It rates lowest on my list for the whole franchise, but that says more about the franchise than the game as a whole. If this is the lowest Monkey Island ever got, then damn is this a good franchise.

Okay. So. Let me ask you a few questions.

1) Do you like the Monkey Island series? (And if so, do you NOT care about Guybrush or Elaine's characterization?)
2) Are you okay with downloading external software and messing with the game's files a bit in order to even get it to run?
3) Are you very stubborn and/or patient, enough that you can deal with intense glitches and some very broken puzzles?
4) Are you okay with putting up with VERY dated humor involving things like racism and fatphobia?

If the answer to ANY of these is "NO," then DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME. DO NOT BUY IT. DO NOT PUT YOURSELF THROUGH THIS.

I've been playing through the entire Monkey Island franchise and thoroughly enjoying it... until now. I'd heard that this game was rough, but I was willing to try to give it a shot regardless. Maybe there would be some hidden gems in here that would make it worth playing. Maybe, in spite of everything, it would be fun or enjoyable.

I was so, so very wrong.

To be fair, there were moments I enjoyed. I did laugh at a handful of jokes. I enjoyed the animation--the game has some great animation for its time. It was nice hearing some familiar voice actors and some of the returning characters, and even a few of the new characters were fun.

But all of those moments were so far overshadowed by how ATROCIOUS the rest of the game is.

First off, YES, I had to download an external program to even get the game to load. But it still had problems! Every single time I opened the game I had to go through multiple confirmation screens asking me if I REALLY wanted to play the game. (I began to question myself the more times I got asked.) I had to ctrl+alt+delete to switch windows. I encountered glitches that made the game harder to play than it should have been, such as a prevailing glitch where switching between actions (while Guybrush can still be controlled) resulted in every other action being skipped, which made a timed puzzle absolutely HELLISH later on. There were parts where simple actions took several minutes, such as Guybrush hopping onto a raft, or characters getting stuck in a walking loop. At one point Guybrush was stuck in a rowing animation (while still being playable) for MULTIPLE HOURS.

THIS GAME DOES NOT WANT TO BE PLAYED.

But even without the glitches, the game is a mess. Guybrush and Elaine go from being a cute couple to a Stereotypical Straight Married Couple featuring Dumb Husband and Wife Who Hates Him. Elaine is constantly mean to Guybrush for no reason, and Guybrush will switch from being "hey I'm married, isn't that cool?" to being extremely creepy to every woman he meets. A lot of Guybrush's actions in the previous games are retroactively made horrible, and this combined with his characterization just makes him unpleasant a good chunk of the time.

Aaaand then the puzzles. Look, I was born in the 80s. I've played my fair share of adventure games. Yes, I know they can be jank and weird and confusing. But a lot of the times I can put up with it if the rest of the game is fun. That is... not the case here. With all the other Monkey Island games I happily figured out as many solutions as I could on my own, only asking for help when I was truly stuck. Here, I was CONSTANTLY getting lost and confused. (I will say, though--I heard a lot of talk about how much people hated Monkey Kombat, and it was oddly one of the easier puzzles for me and gave me little trouble.) And one puzzle late in the game involving timing a series of rocks combined with the action glitch I was getting nearly made me quit the game. (I DID complete it, and if you're still playing this game for some reason and want help with that, I wrote detailed step-by-step instructions on how to complete the puzzle in a post about it on the discussion forums.)

But I didn't quit. I probably should have. And I probably should not have been able to beat this game, with everything it was leveling against me. But I did.

But, no, I do not recommend this game unless you are ABSOLUTELY DEDICATED to playing every single Monkey Island game out there, or unless you played this in the past and have some nostalgia for it.

Remember... you can Escape from Monkey Island (TM)... by avoiding it altogether.

Spiel funktioniert aus unerklärlichen Gründen nicht mehr. Habe es schon lange nicht mehr gespielt und wollte es wiedermal spielen, jedoch ist die Grafik völlig verzerrt - man kann keine klaren Bilder sehen. Dies war früher nicht so. Habe es deinstalliert und neu installiert - hat nichts gebracht. Deshalb kann ich dieses Spiel KEINEN weiteremüfehlen !!!

An admirable effort to bring the art style into 3D, decent backgrounds, and classic music can't save this game from frustrating navigation and poor puzzles. To top it off, most of the writing is bad! This would be a poor game on its own, but the drop in quality compared to Curse of Monkey Island is unfathomable.

If you are running through the series, you don't have to skip this one. But keep a walkthrough handy and be prepared for a handful of crashes or progress blocking bugs.

Починаючи четверту номерну частину пригод дурнуватого, але вкрай харизматичного wannabe-пірата Гайбраша Тріпувда, складно втриматись від скепсису стосовно того, нібито серія зайшла явно не в той бік.

[h3] Покажіть мені 3-d графіку, або йдіть на*** [/h3]

Найбільш розповсюдженим тезисом є сумнозвісний перехід до 3-d графіки в часи, коли технології розвивались так стрімко, що кожна поважаюча себе ігрова студія хотіла йти в ногу з прогресом, забуваючи про те, наскільки це може повпливати на кінцеве враження від візуалу проєкту. І дійсно, з точки зору того, якими ми бачимо персонажів, одягнутих у свіжоспечені полігони, гра має недоліки. Якщо в 3-й частині - Curse of Monkey Island гра стала виглядати як мультфільм Диснея кращих часів, то у Втечі з Острову Мавп - зрозуміла для того часу відсутність лицевих анімацій, незвичне для жанру танкове керування (привіт, перші частини Resident Evil) і досить слабкі пререндерені тривимірні катсцени, які точно не дотягують до покадрових мультиків свого попередника.
Проте я не вважаю всі перелічені речі критичними проблемами. По-перше, повертаємось до того, що гра 2000 року і такою була кон'юнктура часу. По-друге - в грі дуже красиві пререндерені задні фони, які точно не є гіршими за вручну намальовані бекграунди з попередніх частин і як на мене - цілком успішно виконують свою функцію задання атмосфери перебування на комедійно-абсурдних карибських островах. Звісно, тут легко перейти в суперечки у смаках, але враховуючи формат проєкту, художники зробили титанічну роботу.
Керування має свої особливості, але до нього можна звикнути за 20 хвилин гри. Так, до всіх інтерактивних об'єктів нам тепер треба підходити своїми ніжками, замість зручного натискання мишкою. В декількох місцях те, що ці об'єкти інтерактивні - взагалі неочевидно. Чи є це основоположним мінусом, за що на цій грі варто поставити хрест? Я кажу - ні, але кожен вирішить для себе сам.

[h3] Раніше Грог був смачніший, LUA-bar був SCUMM-баром, а пісюн стояв краще[/h3]

Говорячи про 4-тий інсталлмент в серії, складно утриматись від порівнянь з творіннями попереднього століття. Тут варто згадати, за що взагалі люди так полюбили MI?
Окрім проривного зручного геймплею з неможливістю померти (у 1990 році це реально було новинкою), серія закохала в себе фанатів за ту саму "піратську" атмосферу, постмодерністський гумор з відсилками на майже все, про що хотіли вимовитись сценарісти та дуже смішні загадки/головоломки. І тут треба розуміти, що якщо закрити очі на загадки рівня [spoiler] "Тобі треба з'їсти золотий зуб разом з жувальною гумкою, надихавшись гелієм, щоб отриманий пузир пролетів через вікно бару" [/spoiler] сюжет всіх попередніх частин дуже легко вмістити в декількох реченнях. Ці ігри не про пропрацьованих героїв, чи світ, в який ти готовий повірити. Майже навпаки, події та головоломки настільки абсурдні, що ти не можеш це не любити і чекаєш нової порції шизофренії розробників. Проте світ ніколи не відчувається пустим, він працює як злагоджена система, яка кожен раз ламає очікування гравця, нагнавши стандартної експозиції, після чого вивернувши її в суцільну ідіотію.

Власне, в Escape from Monkey Island ми маємо всі ці речі, а деякі з них - викручені на максимально абсурдні налаштування.
Історія стала набагато більш насиченою на діалоги, майже кожен NPC затримає гравця мінімум на 5 хвилин обговорення місцевого положняка. Важливо те, що кожен діалог має певне значення для того, щоб гравець отримав підказки. Це дуже сильно залучує тебе і не дає кліпати очима.
Скажу більше - Escape From Monkey Island перевершує всіх своїх попередників в плані розвитку персонажів. Для дружини ГГ - Еллейн екранного часу виділено більше, ніж у всіх попередніх частинах. Також беремо в приклад членів команди з Secret of Monkey Island. Вони все ще мають знайомі типажі, але навіть у цьому театрі абсурду є місце розвитку характерам, за що гра вже готова була заслужити у мене позитивний відгук.
Кількість посилань на світову поп-культуру тут стало ще більше, багато кому це не сподобалось, проте для мене саме завдяки цьому гра дійсно стала відчуватись живою, яка не соромиться говорити на дорослі теми, нехай і на досить поверхневому рівні.

[h3] Технічний стан [/h3]

Я не зможу проаналізувати роботу гри 2000 року на сучасному залізі, лише скажу, що більш-менш комфортної гри мені довелось качати фікси, що для Steam версії є соромом. В одному моменті я не міг продовжити проходження через некоректну поведінку важливого NPC, але це швидко вилікувалось методом "вийди й зайди нормально". Також гра не підтримує оверлей і єдиним способом згорнути її на Winodws 10 у мене було натискання Alt+Ctrl+Del. Це незручно, але жити якось можна.

[h2] Look behind you! A Three-headed Masterpiece! [/h2]

Мені дуже прикро, що гра з найкращим сюжетом серед частин, зроблених LucasArts, отримала настільки змішані відгуки через досить прозаїчні проблеми, як погана підтримка сучасних систем та 3д-графіка. Також я вважаю, що EMI абсолютно незаслужено отримала претензії стосовно нелогічності паззлів (камон, вони були нелогічними в кожній з частин!).
Драматургія - стала більш масштабною
Жарти - смішнішими та зубастішими
Масштаб історії - більшим.

Рекомендую до проходження всім, хто подивився на погані відгуки і вирішив в неї не грати, вона однозначно варта витраченого часу на себе.

Controlas a Guybrush Threepwood, atrapado en situaciones ridículas y rodeado de personajes extravagantes. La gracia está en el tono y en cómo el juego convierte el chiste en progreso.

Arranca en Mêlée con un golpe seco: Elaine figura “muerta” por trámite y, como consecuencia directa, se activa una orden de demolición que convierte la mansión en un problema administrativo con forma de catapulta. El juego acierta cuando empuja esa idea hasta lo físico: permisos, sellos y “oficialidad” llevados al absurdo, como si la violencia fuese solo otra casilla marcada en un expediente. Ese primer tramo se sostiene en apagar el incendio con humor torcido y soluciones que parecen chapuzas legales llevadas al límite: ridículas en premisa, efectivas en resultado.

A partir de ahí, la historia sugiere que no es un accidente, sino un síntoma: alguien con mentalidad de negocio empieza a reordenar el Caribe por la vía de la propiedad, el marketing y el control del relato público. Se nota en el ambiente, en cómo todo puede renombrarse, reconvertirse o comprarse sin resistencia. En paralelo, el juego estira el chiste de los insultos y lo convierte en herramienta de dominio: deja de ser un duelo puntual y pasa a funcionar como método que invade jerarquías y actividades. El Ultimate Insult encaja como obsesión central: no una ocurrencia suelta, sino la pieza que pretende coronar ese nuevo orden donde lo verbal se vuelve poder.

[spoiler]En Lucre Island la trama se convierte en un “caso” con sello y ventanilla: la herencia de Elaine pasa por el banco, por el papel correcto y por la autoridad que permite entrar donde no tocaría. Cuando el atraco revienta la situación, lo hace usando la misma lógica del sistema: basta con que el culpable “encaje” y el expediente se cierra solo. El nudo pasa a ser limpiar el nombre propio: desmontar una versión oficial construida con prisas, reunir pruebas y obligar al juego a reconocer una verdad que el papeleo no está interesado en escuchar. Al volver a Mêlée, el cambio ya se siente decidido en despachos, no en tabernas.

Jambalaya funciona como bisagra con una idea con filo: la piratería convertida en parque temático, blanqueada y vendida como producto. El concepto aporta aire y algunos personajes sostienen el tramo, aunque la ejecución no siempre lo exprime y tiende a avanzar por ritmo más que por capas. El volantazo llega al entrar en Monkey Island: el impulso del arranque pierde peso y el final se organiza por secciones que “coser pasado” a martillazos, más por reconocimiento que por construcción. En medio se impone Monkey Kombat como bloque obligatorio de posturas y combinaciones, aprendido por memorización y prueba-error, que corta el pulso justo cuando debería estar cerrando con claridad. El clímax remata la deriva con un espectáculo final desmedido (robot-mono incluido) y una resolución contraintuitiva: más volumen que ingenio, y un final fuera de tono.[/spoiler]

[b]Impacto y relevancia:[/b]
Sale en un momento bisagra (principios de los 2000), cuando la aventura gráfica clásica ya no era el centro del mercado y muchas sagas intentaban “modernizarse” a toda costa. Este capítulo es un intento visible de empujar la fórmula al 3D y a un lenguaje más de consola/época sin perder la firma del humor. La recepción fue ruidosa porque el choque no es solo estético: cambia cómo se juega el chiste, cómo se mueve el ritmo y cómo se siente la recta final. Por eso se quedó como el episodio más discutido: no por falta de identidad, sino porque su ejecución hace que esa identidad no siempre lleve el volante.

[b]Entorno y ambientación:[/b]
La intención temática de cada isla se entiende y, en Jambalaya, incluso brilla: Mêlée suena a puerto “administrado”, Lucre a espacio frío y funcional, y Jambalaya clava el contraste entre aventura y producto turístico. El problema es el acabado: el 3D no perdona, y cuando el modelado o la animación no están finos, el humor pierde precisión. Con personajes 3D encima de fondos prerenderizados, cualquier desajuste se multiplica y recuerda que estás mirando capas separadas en lugar de un mundo coherente; además, esa falta de pulido se nota también en cinemáticas, así que no hay un “refugio” donde el juego luzca mejor.

En sonido, en cambio, el juego sostiene mejor su identidad: música y efectos mantienen el “acento” Monkey Island y actúan como pegamento cuando lo visual divide. Aunque el apartado gráfico sea irregular, el audio ayuda a que todo siga sonando a comedia pirata, y eso amortigua parte del choque del 3D.

[b]Mecánicas de juego:[/b]
En esencia sigue siendo aventura: hablar, recoger, combinar y desbloquear el siguiente paso. Los puzles tienden a ser más accesibles y el juego suele llevarte de la mano; a veces eso lo hace ágil, otras lo deja algo simple. Donde más se nota el cambio es en el control: se abandona el point & click y se pasa a manejo en 3D con controles de tanque y selección de acciones. Lo inmediato se vuelve fricción: colocarse bien, orientar al personaje, acertar el foco y elegir la acción correcta, con cámaras fijas que no siempre ayudan. No es injugable, pero sí torpe, y en un género donde el ritmo es idea, prueba, resultado, esa torpeza pesa.

El inventario adopta una rueda/menú más de consola y se vuelve menos transparente de lo que necesita: cuesta consultar rápido, alternar acciones sin pelearse con botones y volver a escena sin sentir que estás navegando menús. Y en el tramo final, el juego cede demasiado espacio a un sistema que no encaja con la lógica de aventura, desplazando el tono justo cuando debería estar afinando el remate.

[b]Aspecto técnico:[/b]
La experiencia cambia mucho según plataforma. En PlayStation 2 es torpe pero coherente con mando: se aprende el “idioma” del 3D y se deja jugar. En PC el port envejece peor: el control no queda bien resuelto para mando y, además, arrastra problemas típicos de versión vieja en pantallas modernas (resolución/escalado), lo que rompe la presentación y hace que todo se perciba más áspero.

En rendimiento, el problema no es una caída puntual, sino la suma de pequeñas esperas. En PS2 se nota en transiciones y cambios de zona; no arruina la partida, pero le quita ligereza. Esa pesadez se amplifica cuando se encadenan menús e inventario, porque el flujo natural de “probar idea y seguir” se vuelve más lento de lo necesario. En PC, por acumulación, esa fricción se siente todavía peor.

[b]Conclusión:[/b]
[i]Escape from Monkey Island[/i] conserva la firma de la saga en el humor y en la forma de convertir conversaciones y situaciones absurdas en progreso, pero se siente como una entrega descompensada por prioridades nuevas. Donde el arranque encuentra un ángulo propio, el juego va perdiendo esa línea y deja que otras decisiones acaben marcando el conjunto. La identidad sigue ahí, reconocible, pero no siempre es la que dirige la experiencia, y por eso queda como un capítulo extraño dentro de la serie.

Esa fricción se nota especialmente en cómo el juego decide avanzar: deja una sensación constante de desplazamiento, como si la aventura empujara por tramos más por diseño que por impulso propio. Las ideas que aparecen a lo largo del recorrido no son débiles por sí mismas, pero el modo en que se encadenan y se priorizan hace que el conjunto pierda claridad. En lugar de crecer a partir de lo que plantea al inicio, va sumando piezas que no terminan de encajar entre sí, y el ritmo se va desinflando conforme avanza.

Al final eso fija su sitio en la saga: no como un juego sin ideas, sino como uno que cambia el tipo de remate. En lugar de cerrar desde el ingenio y la complicidad que había sostenido el arranque, cierra desde la épica, y Monkey Island nunca ha sido acerca de épica.

Escape from Monkey Island is fine, but that’s exactly the problem. Most of the game is just okayish and it’s missing the heart and love that defined the earlier entries. The issue isn’t the controls for me, it’s the story and humor, which never reach the cleverness or warmth the series is known for. The graphics also feel generic and today very dated. And then there’s Monkey Kombat. If you want to experience one of the most frustrating mechanics ever put into an adventure game, you’ll find it here. Overall, it’s a weak continuation of a beloved series and hard to recommend.

[h1]El insulto definitivo[/h1]
Me ha costado horrores decidirme entre recomendar o no recomendar este clásico de las aventuras gráficas y lo cierto es que aunque haya puesto un “No recomendado”, el juego como tal es bueno, salvo por dos detalles, uno salvable y el otro es el que directamente lo ha condenado en mi opinión.

En cierta manera, he sentido que ha sido como el Insulto Definitivo, algo directamente relacionado con el argumento central del juego, porque sí, me he sentido insultado por este juego, pero no ahora sino desde hace mucho tiempo. Pero vayamos por partes.

[h1]En verdad es un buen juego[/h1]
Si tuviera que posicionar a este juego de mejor a peor en la escala de la saga en lo que respecta a su argumento y lo gracioso que es, sin duda lo colocaría en cuarto lugar en algunas cosas y el último en la mayoría. Escape from Monkey Island fue otra víctima de la fiebre de las aventuras gráficas en 3D de principios de siglo, y el resultado fue desastroso en muchos aspectos, como casi todas las sagas que apostaron por este formato (Simon The Sorcerer 3, Broken Sword 3, etc…).

La cosa es que casi todo en Escape from Monkey Island está bien hecho, o al menos suficientemente bien hecho. Su argumento es gracioso, con ciertos matices y fumadas, su planteamiento jugable es divertido y entretenido, quitando algunas cosas sus puzles en general están bien planteados, pero hay algo que bajo mi punto de vista se carga toda la experiencia y la diversión.

[h1]¿Qué destroza el juego?[/h1]
Hay un par de cosas que son muy mejorables en el juego, bueno realmente tres, pero los gráficos se pueden mejorar exponencialmente con una herramienta. A eso iré luego. El primero es el control del personaje, el cual es demencial porque es tipo tanque, aunque se puede jugar con mando perfectamente y si activas el modo analógico en las opciones y pones el modo de cámara en “Relativo a cámara”, los problemas se reducen enormemente. Seguirá siendo algo molesto revisar determinados objetos del entorno, pero es algo pasable y perdonable debido al tiempo que tiene el juego donde el control tipo tanque era la norma.

Lo que realmente destroza el juego es un puzle. El famoso e infame: Monkey Kombat. Sin duda, es el PEOR puzle jamás diseñado en un videojuego y se carga por completo toda la aventura, y para más inri está al final del juego.

Ya por el año 2000, en plena inocencia, jugué a Escape from Monkey Island y lo tuve que abandonar justo ahí, porque no sabía cómo seguir, y no era tan fácil como hoy en día encontrar soluciones cuando te quedabas atascado en un juego. Así que cuando lo vi en Steam me lo compré y decidí acabármelo, era el que me quedaba de la saga al fin y al cabo. Pues fue llegar al Monkey Kombat y quedarme atascado de nuevo, ¿por qué? Porque quien lo diseño era retrasado creo yo.

Para ponerte en situación, el Monkey Kombat es parecido al combate de insultos con espadas de toda la vida, pero en lenguaje mono y estilo kung-fu. Es decir, un mono te dirá por ejemplo “Uhh Uhh” y tú entonces tienes que elegir la opción en lenguaje mono que venza a esa frase, pero aquí viene lo gracioso: es al azar según la partida. Por lo que si en una partida “Akk Akk” vence a “Uhh Uhh” en otra muy probablemente no lo hará.

¿Entonces cuál es la solución? Pues la solución es ir probando con cada palabra de idioma mono e ir apuntando en un papel cuál vence a cuál. Jajajajaja. Hay un montón de palabras mono y combinaciones, por cierto. La comunidad incluso creó scripts para calcular el Monkey Kombat y sus soluciones automáticamente. Sí, ¿verdad? ¡Qué divertido! En serio, hay que ser retrasado para hacer un puzle así, y además al final de la aventura.

En general, Escape from Monkey Island es un juego que se basa mucho en el ensayo y error en algunos de sus puzles, con la consabida molestia para la jugabilidad que eso acarrea. Por ejemplo, tienes que hacer algo cuando el dueño de una tienda se vaya, y si no lo haces pues te chupas de nuevo toda la conversación para hacer que el tendero se vaya de nuevo y entonces hacer lo que debes, y así hasta que averigües qué es. Bueno, no es el mejor modo de plantear puzles y en este juego se abusa mucho de ese recurso, lo cual convierte la experiencia en algo cansino, pero lo del Monkey Kombat es que es de ser un desquiciado mental directamente.

Aun así, si esto no te frena (debería) y quieres acabar la saga, has de saber que en general el juego está bastante bien y es muy gracioso en determinados momentos e incluso puedes mejorar los gráficos para jugarlo más que decentemente y a 4K además si así lo deseas.

[h1]Apartado técnico[/h1]
Debido al tiempo que ha pasado desde su lanzamiento, el juego tiene unos gráficos bastante mediocres a día de hoy, con una resolución base penosa y una definición gráfica que no luce muy bien actualmente. El 3D antiguo es lo que tiene a diferencia del bello pixel art en 2D.

Sin embargo, todo esto tiene solución. Lo único que tienes que hacer es descargar la herramienta dgVooDoo (recomiendo la versión 2.55.4 para evitar glitches o artefactos gráficos menores), y aplicar la configuración pertinente para que se cree un archivo que simule una tarjeta gráfica 3Dfx VooDoo para que todo funcione a la perfección. Además, con el filtro CRT se ve genial. Si tienes alguna duda de cómo hacerlo puedes visitar el enlace con la guía arriba indicada, es para otro juego, pero funciona igual para todos y allí se explica el proceso.

En su plano sonoro funciona de maravilla, siendo el único juego de la saga doblado al español y lo cierto es que la voz de Guybrush me parece muy divertida y todo un acierto porque es chillona y molesta, como lo es él. Creo que eligieron muy bien las voces en español para este juego, y obviamente los chistes o las tonterías que dice Guybrush pues como que hacen más gracia.

[h1]Conclusiones[/h1]
En definitiva, Escape from Monkey Island no es un mal juego como tal, usando un mando su control es soportable y utilizando DgVooDoo la calidad gráfica mejora exponencialmente haciéndolo muy agradable a la vista. Sin embargo, su puzle del Monkey Kombat arruina toda la experiencia haciendo que sea imposible recomendarlo. Una pena.

Even though Escape from Monkey Island is the fourth game in the series, it’s so far the only Monkey Island game to need tweaks in order to play it. Files and an exe need to be installed to have the right resolution, part of the screen is too zoomed in without. This game doesn’t work with a mouse like the previous ones, it needs a controller which requires specific steps. You can use a keyboard but it’s an uncomfortable experience. It’s also better to cap the fps at 60 to avoid some reported bugs.

That’s a lot of work just to get it running. The game itself is also quite the departure, to the point that it can easily garner detractors. Although I like the different graphical style, there are many who think it’s ugly. The pace of the game has slowed down where there are far more dialogues for each character, you don’t go quickly through areas because of it. It’s good that the writing and voice acting are excellent. I did have to take more breaks though. The kind of story it’s trying to tell is also a bit more layered/complex than just having GuyBrush, Elaine and LeChuck again. The angle of consumerism, greedy corporations and saving the pirate way of life are big topics that eventually become relevant to the main characters. And lastly, you have the mandatory mini-game Monkey Kombat, it’s so time consuming and complicated that I gave up on completing the game. I’ve watched the last 30 minutes on YouTube instead of going through a mini-game that requires too much trial and error.

I actually enjoyed the game a lot despite its shortcomings. I was more involved with the puzzles because they often made more sense. It was often clear what you needed to do in order to advance further with the story. Some of the puzzles were very creative. There is so much love with the environments, writing, dialogues etc. It’s a weird game to recommend though. Even with it being different, it’s still best played after going through the previous games. And so, this can only be recommended to fans of Monkey Island who are willing to put up with its flaws to get a complete experience of the series.

This game is bugged. I wanted to play it because I’ve been a fan of Monkey Island since I was a kid. I still remember playing the old versions with those eye-burning pixels, but I was happy thanks to the gameplay and the story.
But this... this is just disappointing. I start the game and everything seems fine at first, but as soon as I try to play, I don’t even have time to select anything or change the settings. Guybrush keeps talking without letting me choose what I want him to say or do.
Plus, when I try to open the menu and select the joystick option, I can’t even pick anything because the menu scrolls by itself.
I really hope an adjustment will be released, because it’s honestly sad to see a game like this in this way.

I don't understand why people hate this game. Except for the Monkey Kombat sequences and clunky controls, the game is pretty damn good. I'd even say that this is one of the best adventure games ever made, because the plot is well-written, full of twists, the dialogues are funny af and the puzzles are fun to solve. Plus, the deuteragonist Elaine Marley is more present in this game which was lacking in the previous Monkey games.

Love this game but as someone who's played both versions, I would recommend you play the PlayStation 2 version if you still have one. It almost feels like the game was designed for consoles (weirdly enough, Grim Fandango, what this game was built off of, controls the exact same but was only designed for Windows) and using a controller makes things 10 times better. Also, you get a hint sheet in Monkey Kombat if you hold down R2 which takes away 90% of what you need to write down in the PC version.

P.S. You don't HAVE to deal with tank controls, even on this release. If you go in the options, you can use camera-relative control. That doesn't fix the fundamental problem of not offering any mouse control, but it's a bit better than having to deal with slow turning.

Coming back to Escape from Monkey Island has been a really enjoyable experience for me. Even though the controls definitely show their age — clunky tank-style movement isn’t the easiest thing to get used to today — the heart of the game shines through.

The plot is surprisingly strong, with plenty of twists and fun setups that keep you invested. The dialogue is just as witty and hilarious as I remembered, filled with that signature Monkey Island humor that pokes fun at pirates, bureaucracy, and adventure games themselves. It reminded me why I had nostalgia for this game in the first place — it doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it still tells a story worth caring about.

The voice acting is another highlight. Hearing Dominic Armato as Guybrush again is a treat, and the cast really brings the absurd world to life. The music and atmosphere are also wonderfully on-brand for the series — catchy, tropical, and quirky in the best way.

Even with some of the rough edges (the controls, the occasional puzzle that makes you scratch your head a little too hard), this is still a great Monkey Island game. It’s funny, it’s charming, and it feels like home for anyone who grew up with the series.

Honestly, I wish there was a proper remaster. A modernized version with smoother controls and upgraded visuals would be incredible, because beneath the dated mechanics is a game with so much personality and heart.

I'm seeing this game get a lot of negative reviews and I thought I might give my 2 cents on this. In terms of a monkey island game, it's a really fun time. The writing is still as funny as ever and the puzzles are still what to expect.

The steam version of the game might be a little bugged though. When I launched the game the cutscenes wouldn't appear until I set launch options then copied & pasted this in: -gl -w -16. Controls are not the standard point and click either cause I believe it was designed with a controller in mind, but once you get used to it, it's not that bad.

Overall, I think it's a fine enough game. Though you'd probably have a better experience on a ps2 or a different platform.

O porte pra steam é injogável, então recomendo procurar formas alternativas de se jogar.

Dito isso, a câmera do jogo e os controles são horrorosos e atrapalha demais, transformaram um point n click num jogo adventure mas com uma câmera que dá náusea e controles NADA intuitivos. A arte do jogo é bonita, bem como a trilha e os sfx.

O roteiro tenho lá uns e outros problemas mas de geral, é uma história legal, respeitam a lore de Monkey Island.

O problema é que os puzzles aqui são praticamente impossíveis, tem uns que tu tem que ter uma revelação divina pra saber o que tem que fazer porque meu deus do céu. O humor do jogo manteve-se em relação aos outros 3, mas pessoalmente eu digo que ele é o pior da franquia apesar de bom [eu nem considero Tales of Monkey Island parte de tão ruim que aquilo é]

Ma che gioco di cacchissima è?? Ora, lo storytelling è passabile (la critica alla società consumista dove tutto assume valore commerciale è sacrosanta), anche se alcuni punti mi hanno fatto fare un bel WTF con la faccia. Perché la storia riprende più o meno da dove l'avevamo lasciata alla fine del terzo capitolo (Guybrush ed Elaine sono in luna di miele), ma non ha senso che Guybrush sia costretto a trovarsi un'altra nave per fare i suoi spostamenti. Voglio dire... La nave ce l'ha già. Poi a lasciarmi basita è anche il legalese che c'è in mezzo (Elaine vene dichiarata morta e Guybrush deve letteralmente parlare con degli avvocati. DAFUQ). Inoltre anche il personaggio di LeChuck lascia MOLTO a desiderare. Ora, la sua entrata in scena è effettivamente tanta roba, ma... è lo sviluppo (????) del personaggio nel corso del gioco che è alquanto bizzarro.
Un punto di forza del gioco è secondo me la grafica in 3D con i colori pastello perché è molto gradevole. Purtroppo l'implementazione dello stesso modo di giocare di Grim Fandango rende questo gioco macchinoso e orripilante. Soprattutto perché anziché avere le classiche tre opzioni del motore di gioco SCUMM (parla, osserva, manipola/usa), ce ne sono anche DECINE tra cui scegliere.
Tuttavia è dal punto di vista dei puzzle che questo gioco è INFAME perché ci sono dei rompicapo che fanno LETTERALMENTE venir voglia di picchiare il capo nel muro: alcuni enigmi (specialmente quelli da affrontare su Monkey Island, NO SPOILERS) sono veramente tosti e se non si riesce a superarli... Beh, ciaone proprio... Questo pregiudica la giocabilità perché rende questo gioco NON accessibile a tutti.

Consigliato? Beh... Solo se come me siete dei sottoni per tutto ciò che è made in LucasArts. Sennò passate oltre che è decisamente meglio!

This is by far the worst Monkey Island game as I've beaten them all and this was the last on the docket I hadn't played. The tank controls are absolutely intolerable in addition to getting constantly stuck in corners with the awkward layout of every room in the game you roll off of every surface so navigation is nearly impossible. The graphics are mid as hell also with the old school Cheetos-polygons. Honestly the puzzles and story are completely recycled too. If you aren't hell bent on beating every Monkey Island in the franchise, skip this game for sure, it is terrible.

원숭이 섬의 탈출 플레이 했다.

다시 원숭이 섬의 탈출이 시작되었다.
이번엔 3D다. 이전까진 겪어보지 못한 원숭이 섬이 기다린다.

3D로 돌아온 만큼 원년 멤버들과 다시 한번 뭉쳤다.
나쁜 추억은 잊어버리고 새로운 시작을 선언 하지만 이 선언이
10년뒤에야 다시 이루어 질 줄 누가 알았을까.

분명 나쁘지 않고 즐길 거리도 있지만 3D 게임으로서는 탈락이다.
이 정도로 화가나고 집어 던지고 싶었던 작품은 이번이 처음이다.
자격미달의 어드벤쳐 게임에도 있고, 최악의 어드벤쳐 게임도 있지만 이 작품만은아니다.

몽키 컴뱃에 괴상한 조작법, 그리고 너무 불편한 게임까지
진짜 조금만 편했더라면 얼마든지 칭찬을 쏟아부어 줄수 있는데 이건 아니야.

It's ok, sure the controls are bad and the 3D graphics are ugly and Monkey Kombat is a thing (even though they already made an insult sword fighting alternative in the form of insult arm wrestling) but overall, it's not the worst game I've ever played. Although I still wouldn't recommend it.

No se me ocurre ninguna virtud que destacar, salvo los dialectos del doblaje castellano; el estilo visual lo pierde por completo con el cambio a 3D, los controles son incontrolables, el humor es anecdótico comparado con las precuelas, la resolución de puzles se convierte en misiones de recadero y los diálogos apenas suman. Para colmo, al no tener autoguardado, al juego se le ha ocurrido cerrarse solo al cabo de 3 horas y en pleno Monkey Kombat, el tramo peor diseñado de todo el juego con diferencia.

It has redeeming qualities, the writing, the humor, the wacky puzzles, it still is a monkey island game and there is enjoyment to find in it

That is if you manage to get over the many ordeals the game puts you through :
- The ugly 3D , I mean okay it's early 2000, it's their first 3D game, I shouldn't expect good graphics but C'mon ! their previous entry was a top notch 2d handdrawn, for them to go so low begs the question of why'd they go for bad 3D over good 2D
- Random Crashes, yup, it happened to me, better save regularly
- THE F£$*ING CONTROLS : How messed up in the head can you be to ditch the basics of a POINT n CLICK and overhaul everything into a full keyboad/gamepad experience, and a terrible one that is ! Just moving arround is a pain in the butt, Guybrush will bump into every collider when not running like a drunk.
I swear it alone ruins the whole game because of how attrocious it is just to navigate and do things

This one took a lot out of me. I like the series but I've got to say that most of the things you need to do were not intuitive in any way, which means that the only real way to play it is using a walkthrough. There is no way that a person just figured out that Ozzie's platypus would be an important plot point to move the story forward. There were two redeeming parts of this game that brought it back for me. Firstly, what they did with Herman in this game was wild but in a way that fit perfectly, so I have to give major props here. Second, Monkey Kombat kind of slapped after figuring it out. I honestly liked it better than Insult Sword Fighting, which is probably a controversial statement for followers of the series. In any case, it's a Monkey Island game so I can't hate on it too much, even in moments where the game is not even remotely intuitive... like the end of the game, for example. 6/10.

Mixed bag of a game but won me over big time once I got into it. There are plenty of downsides, graphics and sound are rough, some of the writing hasn't aged well, protagonists come off as sleazy or unlikable at times, controls are frustrating at the start, BUT there's also lots of good content; engaging storyline, throwbacks, silliness, GROG, challenging but logical puzzles (I recommend a notebook for some of the more complicated ones).

After getting used to the controls, I really enjoyed it. (Apart from Monkey Kombat, which was tedious)

PSA for those who want to play:
- Use dgVoodoo2 so it renders at a good resolution without crashes.
- Cap the framerate to 60fps to prevent bugs.
- Use a controller, and rebind the buttons in the menu when you load the game.

But yeah, apart from that - it's another Monkey Island game. Very kino.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

I have no idea what the process was on getting this game to Steam, but someone CLEARLY FAILED at testing this game before realizing that this outdated, buggy piece of ♥♥♥♥ was in DIRE NEED of futureproofing.

No mouse controls, that's a cardinal sin for games of this genre, and this was released in ***2000*** so there is NO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ REASON why there wouldn't be mouse controls.

Controls themselves are a disaster, it feels like you're in control of a tank and about the only time you're able to feel like you're controlling the game is with a gamepad and setting the movement to Camera-Relative.

The worst offense of them all is that this game was pushed to Steam UNPATCHED. There are a ton of bugs in this game where you can easily softlock yourself and be forced to reload an earlier save -- Guybrush will literally FREEZE IN PLACE AND THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS EITHER PAUSE THE GAME OR ACCESS THE GAME MENU. You are LITERALLY STUCK.

This release is an absolute disaster and needs SEVERAL QOL fixes.

Escape From Monkey Island is a swashbuckling adventure filled with witty banter, absurd puzzles, and enough grog to make even a three-headed monkey tipsy. Guybrush Threepwood is back, still trying to prove he’s a mighty pirate while mostly just getting outwitted by everyone—including, quite possibly, a three-headed monkey hiding just off-screen.

The game delivers classic Monkey Island humor, bizarre logic puzzles that will make you question your sanity, and more fourth-wall-breaking jokes than you can shake a rubber chicken (with a pulley in the middle) at.

10/10, a nostalgic classic childhood favourite

This game brings a lot of nostalgia to me, as I was first introduced to the wonders of Monkey Island when I was, approximately, 8 years old. My mother, brother and I would sit for hours, pondering the puzzles and scouting for clues. We would spend hours, playing and then re-loading a previous save because the method of how to complete the puzzle wasn't correct, so you can imagine the time it took to complete in the year 2008! My mother, bless her, wrote a step-by-step guide to this game-which I utilised with my recent play through. Even then, I still struggled!

For newbies who enjoy a little tickle of the brain, a MUST play game!

Come non consigliare un capitolo della saga più famosa dei punta e clicca? Ovviamente tenete in considerazione che questo è di gran lunga il peggiore, soprattuto dal lato tecnico e dei comandi, inserendosi in quel filone di avventure anni 2000 che provavano a buttarsi sul 3d fallendo miseramente (gli anni 2000 stanno ai punta e clicca come gli anni '80 alla musica rock).
Una volta che avrete esaurito tutti i capitoli precedenti (e l'ultimo uscito da poco) credo vi verrà comunque voglia di provarlo: considerate che è anche il più lungo, da me si attesta in 16 ore di gioco.

I played the game when it was released back then, after MI1, 2 and 3. It was by far the worst of the 4 MI games.

For more than 20 years I remembered this game as being very bad.

I recently re bought every MI game here on Steam and replayed them. I have to say that EFMI was not as bad as I remembered. I even enjoyed it.

Honestly I don't know if it's a good game or a bad game. Back in 2000 it was a terrible game. Now in 2024 I managed to enjoy it.

Still worse than MI1, MI2 and MI3 by a few miles.

Escape From Monkey Island (Steam PC version, played with Proton under Linux) has unplayably awful controls. No mouse support, bad keyboard interface, and a gamepad setup that calls all the buttons "GameButton N" (so "GameButton6" rather than "Right Trigger" - also half the buttons are not in fact supported, Also also it started stuttering for cutscene video. The gameplay by all accounts is good but the interface kills it.

This should have been properly overhauled to work with a PC idiom. As is, it's not fit for playing, which is sad. I bought it as part of the Monkey Island Collection bundle, so I can't get a refund on it.

Die Steuerung ist der letzte Dreck. Ich kann an einer Stelle, wo ich bei einem Korb mit Prothesen eine Handprothese klauen müsste, während die Musik einer Spieluhr läuft, um den Ladenbesitzer abzulenken, immer nur die Beinprothese aus Porzellan auswählen, weil ich mich wohl falsch vor dem Korb positioniere, ehe ich ihn ansteuere. Aber egal wie ich es versuche, ich komme an der Stelle nicht weiter.

I was 10 years old, and wishing my PC was strong enough to run this game. It used to run at one frame per 10 seconds, and I still managed to get to Chapter 3 before giving in. Truly a masterpiece in 3D adventure gaming - think point and click, just with a keyboard and WASD-like mechanics. This was the 'test-run' before LucasArts made Grim Fandango on the same engine.

As with all other Monkey Island stories, this one is legendary, emotional, funny and humbling. Michael Land and Clint Bajakian's score and compositions allows the player to just breathe in the atmosphere.

Truly one of my favourite games in the early 00's. Gladly play this every single year for nostalgia and smiles.

Port is a bit stinky, and it took about 30 minutes of tinkering to get the controls to work on Steam Deck, and PC, however it's still a childhood favourite, and once it works, it is a fantastic experience. Nothing makes me laugh like a Monkey Island game.

O quarto da sequência Escape from Monkey Island é definitiva um dos piores jogos que já joguei na vida como também o pior de seus jogos da década 90 e 2000.
Ele traz uma novidade de ser o primeiro jogo 3D da franquia e infelizmente tira uma das essências da franquia que é ser um jogo point and click e traz uma mecânica de interação e movimentação estilo tanque que é muito mal feita.
Onde não conseguimos controlar direito a movimentação do personagem e muitas acaba indo para lugares que não queremos. Infelizmente também tive alguns problemas de crach durante o jogo.
Porém a sua história continua sem muito boa e engraçada igual aos jogos anteriores e o Monkey Kombat também muda bastante a gameplay e deixa o jogo bem legal.
Só recomendo esse jogo para quem é muito fan da série ou quem quer jogar todos os jogos da franquia (Igual meu caso).
Pois foram quase 12h de jogo em que até chegar nos dois últimos capítulos eu estava jogando puramente forçado e achando nenhum ponto positivo do jogo.
