Without giving too much away, I'd have to say that this game has been somehow... therapeutic. Talk about feeling better about myself... and I can definitely recommend this to others like myself who are easily offended, not by anything directed at myself or groups I belong to, etc., but by... let's just say... I'm very easily offended by general ignorance, not by ignorance toward society, or people in it (that too, but this doesn't apply as much here), but by the inability of some to notice something right in front of the other person's face. Enough of this game and one day I'll probably be able to take anything in stride.

Good memories made me to buy LJ on Steam, I supposed to accept money means that I would be given playable game. Big disappointment instead. I would accept pic resolution from last century, but not locations that I am not able to leave, white rectangles where something clickable should be, that I need to restart computer after playing to restore Windows appearence... Sad. And such a game it was once.

I'm playing some old games with friends and this was the first. I enjoyed it, and was both positively and negatively surprised.

The story is good, specially in the first half the characters are interesting and deep, not just (blatant) plot devices. But there are some rushed characters and species that are a somewhat missed opportunity, specially near the ending, when the story also gets a bit too fantasy. But the world is very interesting, and there's definitely room for more story there, a lot of unexplored (but mentioned!) locations and races. So I'm actually excited for the sequel, which I will play at some point.

The point and click adventure part is ok, sometimes it has some puzzles which are too contrived and I had to use an online hint system (UHS, which is actually great and I recomment when playing!).

I find it really amusing how the graphics feel so dated (but this was not a problem), while the audio is really high quality by comparison.

The game is also surprisingly progressive for its time, and touches some interesting topics.

Obs. Use ScummVM + Borderless Gaming (legacy) + download fonts so that it runs smooth

Jogo bem maneiro, mas de fato um pouco datado. Entendo muito o apelo de quem jogou na infância, ele é tudo que dizem mesmo: uma história épica, cenários maravilhosos, dublagem bem feita 100% dos diálogos, música bacana, etc. Mas acho que mesmo pra quem ta jogando pela primeira vez agora (como foi meu caso), é uma experiência muito legal.
O jogo tem bastante artefatos de jogo aventura antigo, uns puzzles meio obtusos, uma lógica meio nada a ver as vezes, mas é bem jogável. Eu tive de sucumbir a uns guias em pontos específicos quando eu ficava travado por horas, e a solução era sempre algo meio insatisfatório, ou alguma combinação meio esdrúxula de itens e lugares, ou era algum objeto obscuro que eu precisava ter interagido no background. Mas a pior parte do design é certamente a falta de direção ao jogador. Muitos momentos o jogo meio que espera que você vá para lugares aleatórios onde algo mudou sem nenhuma indicação. Não acho que ele precisava ser agressivo tal como alguns jogos AAA são hoje em dia, segurando a mão do jogador pra cada decisão, mas certamente tem um meio termo razoável, a protagonista podia falar em voz alta algo como "deixa eu ver o que está rolando com X pessoa agora" ou "estou com fome, preciso achar algo pra comer". O jogo parece que não respeita o tempo do jogador nesse quesito, fazendo você multiplas vezes andar aleatoriamente após acabar um puzzle até achar o próximo lugar que a narrativa avança. E não ajuda que a April anda "correndo" super lento, através de cenários imensos (mas de fato bem bonitos). Se o jogo tivesse como acelerar mais entre telas que você já foi antes (tipo clicar 3 vezes numa saida e ja ir pra lá), o jogo ganharia um dinamismo muito favorável.
Tirando isso, o jogo tem muito charme, não só nos cenários 3D pre-renderizados classicoes (que eu piro muito), como em toda a ambientação. O jogo fica intercalando entre um mundo distópico futurista e um mundo fantástico, gostei muito disso.
A narrativa tem seus pontos fortes e fracos. O jogo é surpredentemente progressista, toca em temas que não imaginaria em jogos da época, como misoginia, abuso de religião, luta de classes, casais gays, ansiedade do jovem adulto, tudo com um tato bem impressionante. Agora o jogo também tem umas exposições longuissimas, dialogos meio bobos e piadinhas que mais erram do que acertam. Tudo cria uma personalidade única ao menos. O escopo da jornada também é suuuper ambiciosa, tentaram (e acho que conseguiram de certa forma) criar mundos e lore com bastante detalhe, porém a sensação chegando ao fim do jogo é que tava acabando o budget, pois do nada tudo começa a ficar super acelerado e o jogo sai correndo pra uma conclusão. Talvez até pro melhor, é possivel que o jogo ficasse mais arrastado com o tempo.

Enfim, recomendo bastante o jogo se ou você gostar de jogos de aventura antigos, ou gosta de video-games como mídia e se diverte conhecendo esses jogos icônicos. Achei Longest Journey bem marcante, devo guardar na memória por anos a vir a cena do Roper Klacks e a calculadora, ou esfregando doces com chorume na frente de um cara pra fazer ele comer. Quero algum dia jogar a sequel Dreamfall, imagino que só deve melhorar o que foi o Longest Journey.

Se você tiver interesse em jogos de aventura da época mas quiser algo com um game design mais polidinho, recomendo demais meu eterno favorito Grim Fandango, que não só lançou um ano antes do Longest Journey, como tem um remaster maravilhoso aqui na Steam.

Ah, e o port do Longest Journey aqui da Steam é bem fraquinho, recomendo MUITO ir atrás do ScummVM e seguir o guia de como consertar umas coisas, por exemplo as fontes que ficaram faltando (as fontes do jogo não são essas pixeladas, são umas cursivas muito estilosas).
