Element4l is one of those games that completely betrays its own presentation — you boot it up expecting a chill, atmospheric experience with its gorgeous soft visuals and lullaby-like soundtrack, then spend the next hour screaming at your keyboard. The core mechanic of switching between air, ice, rock, and fire with just the arrow keys is brilliantly simple in concept, but the timing and momentum required to chain elements together properly is brutally unforgiving. What keeps you coming back is that satisfying click when everything flows — sliding into a half-pipe as ice, popping into air at just the right angle — it genuinely feels great when it works. The little in-world quips from your elemental character (Gollum references, Indiana Jones nods) add a lot of charm that softens the frustration just enough to keep you going. If you can stomach trial-and-error platforming and don't mind dying a hundred times before a sequence finally clicks, this is a unique and worthwhile experience — just don't go in expecting the relaxing game the screenshots promise.

This is a very cute platformer with tight mechanics and pleasant art and sound design. The main twist is that you can't directly go left - W is Air to lift you, D is Fire to move right, and S and A are Rock and Ice to drop you. As the game progresses, obstacles start requiring you to find creative ways to generate leftward momentum. That progression and execution work beautifully. Even when I spent close to an hour on a single level, it never felt disheartening or rage-inducing; it was always just a matter of timing the inputs exactly right. The harder it got, the more satisfying each win felt. And the game walks a razor-thin line of pushing its mechanics without ever taking them too far.
I don't even remember where did I get this game from... But it is such a pleasant surprise! Awesome and elegant idea and implementation. Cool music and overall atmosphere. I'm very impressed!

Element4l is a game where you play a stupid little sprite thing with a perpetually happy face. You can turn into an ice cube by pressing left, a bubble of air with up, a rock with down, and a fireball with right. The big idea is that when you turn into a bubble, a fireball, or a rock, you gain some upward, downward, or rightward velocity. Then you use this to attempt to slide on surfaces to progress through the levels. That's about it.
I would more describe the game as a puzzle game personally. The puzzle elements come in the form of figuring out which order you have to use your abilities, in order to progress. That's it. And it'll be consistent, or relatively consistent, so long as you do the right abilities, in the right order. This is one of the biggest problems I had with the game because when you are stringing together like 6 to 9 inputs, or more, over the course of 20-30 seconds, it becomes extremely frustrating. Even if you know what the game wants from you, figuring out exactly how you are meant to arrive there, can be completely unclear.
I guess I need to be clear about what you actually DO in this game, and mostly, you just go down slopes. That's it. It's like skiing down slopes. You just go down them then up other slopes. Then you go down some more. Then up. Occasionally you break a few walls using your rock or ice cube form. The game has a real hard-on for, once in a while, forcing you to 'somehow' go left, because you don't have any buttons that directly give you leftward momentum, so you need to usually just go up or bounce off something to get some leftward velocity. That is literally all there is to the game, just sliding on slopes.
There aren't even like, what we would think of today as advanced elemental... stuff. Hell, even at the time there was Magicka, Magicka 1 came out in 2011! And that game is loaded with playing with all the elements. Here, despite the game being called 'Element4l' it only has like... 6 or 7, if you count INSTANT DEATH (radioactive terrain?) as an element. Other than your four, there's lava, and water.
The game touts itself as an 'immersive and experimental indie platformer with a strong focus on flow and smooth gameplay with an exceptional soundtrack'. I think I disagree with all of these claims.
For one, this game is not at all immersive. It just isn't. To be 'immersed' in a game generally relies on the fact that one feels they're somehow in the game, or being drawn into it. The game is too amateurishly put together to really do that. An immersive feel could have been achieved by, having a more detailed environment, or having more elements to play with, or something like that, but as it is, the game just feels like you're playing someone's Line Rider level.
I don't think you can call your game 'experimental' just because it only uses 4 buttons. It's certainly not for the physics-related stuff, or the 'combining' elements stuff - that was all in very mainstream video games. So it's down to the four buttons thing.
Did you know there were games produced in the 70s, 80s, and 90s that only had 1 or 2 buttons? Just putting that out there.
I think that the 'strong focus on flow and smooth gameplay' is more of a weak focus, because I think almost at no point in this game did I ever manage to clear even one section without dying, or without being confused as to what the game actually wanted. There might have been one or two bits in the first quarter of the game where I was like alright, I get it, but especially once you reach the second half, it just breaks down into retrying the same part over, and over, and over again. This is not smooth! This is not flowing at all!
A game like 'Thomas Was Alone' where you see the entire stage and just lose yourself in 'the zone' of moving cubes around the screen without stopping, that is what I would call a 'flow' state. Or even like Tetris, if you like Tetris - certainly not this, a game where you die nigh constantly trying to figure out what to do.
And then there's the 'exceptional soundtrack'. I don't know how many songs are in this game, it feels like maybe 3 or 4, because I kept hearing that one track with the laughing children on it and the annoying chime or whatever that was. If you really want to hear an annoying, inaccessible, weird soundtrack to a game... this is it. I would more call this music 'experimental' more so than the game itself. And I understand, this was a one-man dev team throwing a game together in Unity in 2013, when everything in the indie scene was harder than it is now. I get it.
Still, I'm gonna point the music out as not great, and at worst, distracting. The music, in fact, is one of the greatest reasons why I could not get immersed into this game even if I tried. None of it really fits the game, and the track I referred to actually had more of a horror sound to it - that kind of bells or chimes along with the sounds of laughing children, makes it sound like a horror theme. It's inappropriate for this game, it's just tonally inconsistent.
So now I'm done ripping the store page apart, let's also take this chance to talk about the technical problems this game has. Stuff that's not just my opinion but a fact about the game.
The game is a physics-based game made in Unity in 2013, the game was designed with a 60fps frame rate in mind when they were designing the game. Unity games, when you play them well above the correct frame rate, their physics tends to bug out and stop working properly. This can manifest in several ways - let's say you're playing at 180fps, on a 180hz monitor instead of 60fps on a 60hz monitor, this can mean that some forces that shove the player might shove too hard, because many more instances of 'shoving' is happening per second.
This also means you get slowed down way faster, at almost triple the speed, because surfaces that would normally leech velocity from the player, now are leeching 180 times a second, instead of 60. This is how I understand it anyway, but regardless it's just a known fact. Even modern Unity games like 'Outer Wilds' have problems where the physics can break down and cause bugs in the game.
This is an entire game based on physics. There is no way to cap the frame rate. Not only that - Element4l does not even have a 'video options' menu WHATSOEVER. There is no vsync, there's nothing at all, so I had to manually use an external program to hard-cap my FPS to 60 so that the physics would work correctly. This for me was one of the most frustrating things, because I knew all about this before I even played this game, but if a layperson were to try to play this on their nice modern system, they'd probably pretty quickly get stuck on something, somewhere they weren't meant to get stuck, and then get frustrated and quit.
And I know a lot of players already did just that - because this game has something like a 7% completion rate. So only 7% of players, actually beat this game. With some quick maths, that means only about 30 people who left a review on this game on Steam alone, actually beat the game. Wow.
Anyway, I sure did. It was complete pain and suffering and by the end I was just relieved it was over, which in itself I think is a bigger problem than anything else I mentioned - that I was incredibly angry and frustrated for the three hours it took me to beat this game - but yeah, I beat it.
Special note here about the incessant pop culture references. You might look at the game and be like wait what are you talking about, except for no reason at all, maybe as a private in-joke (let's see how badly I can date my own game LOL) the game just name-drops Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, The Goonies (1985), and a handful of random known figures, like Tony Hawk. I did not like these, I didn't find them funny, and they were distracting.
So yeah. Avoid this game.

Element4l es un juego de habilidad en el que deberemos tomar la forma de aire, fuego, tierra o hielo para ir avanzando por cada uno de los niveles que nos iremos encontrando, aprovechando las cualidades de cada uno de estos cuatro elementos.
El aspecto gráfico está bien conseguido y se aprecia muy cuidado a pesar de su sencillez en cuanto a los escenarios. El cuidado depositado en los efectos de luz y las explosiones son innegables.
La banda sonora es correcta, no desentona ni resulta molesta, aunque tampoco destaca excesivamente. Cumple sin problemas.
La jugabilidad es, en mi opinión, la parte negativa del título. Con un manejo complicado y la dificultad a la hora de entender el comportamiento de la física de los movimientos y, en especial, la pericia necesaria para no perder el "momento" (o inercia) no está al alcance de cualquier jugador. Necesitarás de varias horas de desesperación para empezar a comprender cómo funciona todo. Este punto se acentúa además con una ausencia de información al respecto que deja al jugador a merced de la alta dificultad del título hasta que, con la práctica (y mucha tenacidad), vaya entendiendo y aprendiendo solo cómo debe actuar en cada caso. Estoy convencido que más de uno se dará por vencido dándolo por imposible antes de comprender la importancia de la inercia y cómo y cuando utilizarla a nuestro favor. Al menos, la respuesta de nuestro personaje y la precisión de sus movimientos es excelente.
La dificultad, como he comentado anteriormente es muy elevada, aunque si aguantamos en la curva de aprendizaje, sentiremos el juego como algo retador y no, en especial en nuestras primeras horas de juego, como un título imposible de manejar.
La durabilidad será de entre 20 y 30 horas si queremos superar sus 16 niveles (más el nivel oscuro que desbloquearemos al final), todas las banderas de oro (conseguidas al superar un nivel sin morir ni una sola vez) y las 2 chispas oscuras ocultas en cada uno de los niveles. La mayoría de los logros los iremos consiguiendo a medida que avanzamos y no deberían ser un reto mayor que el pasarse el propio juego al completo.
Al final, estamos ante un juego técnicamente excelente en cuanto a su agradable diseño gráfico y excelente respuesta y precisión en cuanto a los movimientos del protagonista. Sin embargo, la ausencia de un tutorial detallado de cómo funciona todo (y en especial de cómo mantener nuestra inercia) lo hacen un título no apto para jugadores casual y conseguirá desesperar a más de uno, dando la sensación en nuestras primeras partidas de ser un juego con unas mecánicas imposibles de dominar. Esto resta enteros a la nota final.

Charming game with great simple concept of turning into different states of matter to solve platforming challenges. It seems slightly physics based so some things don't always feel smooth, but retries are pretty quick so failing doesn't get too frustrating when moves are hard to pull off.

An OK platformer with an interesting kinetic mechanic: you don't move directly your character but change its physic state in order for it to move. The game can look soothing, cute and relaxing at first, but it gets pretty complex and challenging by the end (I was able to beat it, though, after a little bit of frustration). I mostly liked it but be aware that this kind of games with simulated physics can get a little erratic in their response to your actions.

The atmosphere is good, the audio is decent, but the controls... The controls are bad. The control of the character is physics based, so any movement you do is highly inconsistent. Despite this, later levels require very precise movements. I would compare this games controls to something like shooting a water gun on a windy day at a target that is a hundred meters away with Iron sights. It is doable, but after how many tries will it be done and, perhaps the most important question of all, will your psyche hold or will it buckle before you actually hit the target?
Superb game to play with children. Soothing soundtrack, nonviolent, intuitive, and fun introduction to physics.

ive had this game for years, and always come back to it after a year or two while browsing my library. i downloaded the soundtrack separately even, because its such a perfect music scape for this game. enjoy!
Just realized I never rated this game. I played it when it came out and I still have a vivid memory of it. It's just superb.
Mind you it is HARD. But it didn't feel random, I always felt like I could beat each part if I just practice and do it right (and I did). I played on keyboard, which is probably best for really precise control.
Also kudos to the music that dares to be music and not hide in the background. I can still hear it in my head 7 years later.

Eu tenho um ponto fraco para esse jogo, um jogo em que a gameplay é perfeita , parece que os desenvolvedores fizeram esse jogo pensando em speedrun , em Time Trials e derivados, Mas no fundo o jogo é só isso, e nao tem nada demais de ser só um jogo platformer difícil, nem tudo precisa de ter uma narrativa espetacular e uma trilha sonora orquestrada , e por isso esse jogo é o meu favorito da steam , não por causa da sua história, que não tem nenhuma , ou seus diálogos , que chegam a ser vergonha alheia até, Mas pelo seu gameplay simples e intuitivo , pelo seu desafio e pelo sentimento de realização que eu tive quando eu finalmente platinei esse jogo.

Horribly, awfully frustrating, and not nearly rewarding enough to be worth it.
This is a physics platformer/"puzzler" without "controls" in the normal sense. Just switch between four elements to make your character behave in four different, all passive, ways. The result is confusing and very unintuitive. It's easy to get into impossible or very difficult situations. There's a help function that displays a ghost of what you're supposed to do, but sometimes it just doesn't apply to the situation you're in.

Even with all it has going for it, I was disappointed by Element4l and do not recommend buying it.
Pros:
The unique concept of the game is its biggest draw. You are an elemental, and your movement is entirely tied to the elemental form you pick at any given moment. Rock falls down, air goes up, fire goes to the right, ice falls slowly, but slides along the ground. It's pretty simple, and the art style and music are very cute and simplistic as well. It all ties together in a pretty little package. The game devs are an indie-development team, which is also a big deal. Supporting indie developers helps produce really unique games like this. These perks are deceiving, however.
Cons:
The game is very very short, basic, and has an extremely low margin for error. You die if you touch most surfaces while in the air or fire forms, but you need to maintain your momentum throughout the level or you'll get stuck and likely die as a result when you next change into them. This means that you frustratingly have to die over and over again trying to replicate exactly what the developers intended for you to do.
Respawning after you die starts you with no momentum: if you die on your first try through an obstacle, you are way less likely to make it through on any subsequent tries from the respawn location because you lack the needed speed to complete some obstacles. There is a ghost that will fly ahead of you and show you what you're supposed to do if you can't figure out the right key combinations, but it only serves to show you what you're not doing right, as there are almost no other ways of accomplishing what the ghost does at certain points. Your timing has to be so precise that clicking a transform button one too many times or just a second off can result in you dying. You also have a stamina bar that limits your ability to transform, capping the number of options and timing for your movements even further in an already restrictive game. It's like the platforming equivalent of being forced through a hedge maze made of barbed wire. I did not like it.
I rate Element4l a 2/5: a niche or below average purchase. For me it was both: niche and below average. The game does such a good job atmospherically, but it's biggest problem is inherent in its design: it's frustrating and has an extremely precise and unforgiving margin for error. It is also very short: most of the time I spent playing it was because of how many times I died repeating the same puzzles over and over, and doesn't represent the true length of the game. Unless you are fond of the art style and music of the game, or are of an extremely patient and determined disposition and enjoy running your head at walls, I wouldn't recommend buying it.

A small unique platformer with a great atmosphere.
Don't expect loads of content but for what you pay you get quality.
This is going to be from the perspective of someone who doesn't usually play platformers, so keep that in mind.
Pros:
-The art style is absolutely wonderful. Going to be honest, it's 70% of the reason I bought the game (the other 30% was the interesting premise)
-The difficulty. Not that this game was without some genuine, serious frustrations(there were plenty, especially in the last half of element4l), but I don't think reaching the end of the game would've been the same if it was moderate difficulty.
-Completing the game was satisfying in a way that I haven't experienced in a long time. Worth it's own point.
-The atmosphere of the game was generally very calming, relaxed. Really liked that
-The 4 elemental system kept the game interesting and difficult
-Sort of linked to the first, but it's almost more like a puzzle than a platformer.
-Sort of linked to my last 2 points, but flow is a huge part of this game. That's what this game is about. You perfect your movements to improve your time and in many cases, complete puzzles. There is a certain beauty in it.
-you constantly get exposed to new mechanics, new ways of completing the levels. Keeps the game fresh.
Cons:
-No save points. If you sit down to do a level, you need to complete it in one sitting. This wouldn't be too much of a problem given the length of the levels, but element4l is hard.
-There were times when it felt like the checkpoints were spaced too far between each other.
-Amount of levels in the game isn't huge. It's not tiny, but I do feel like it was a bit short. That said, it's difficulty sort of makes up for that I guess. Each level feels "draining" but in a good way
-The story is very near non-existent. It's a big shame because the scant amounts of story we did see looked very interesting. Then again, if you're buying this game, you probably don't care about it.
-The help ghost doesn't always show you the correct thing to do. Usually, the speed and/or position of the ghost is off slightly. Sounds minor, but you'll have a lot of "I almost got it" moments even if you try to follow it. Alternatively, the ghost is too quick so you miss some small but crucial step. It's difficult to tell sometimes. In either case, it can be pretty frustrating as there aren't any video guides for this game(most I've found are speedruns, which take different routes, or incomplete guides which don't cover the levels you need them for most).
Element4l is a pretty difficult platformer. It's cons will be very glaring at some parts, but oddly enough, I don't think it detracts from the game a lot in the end. If you like difficult games, or if you like platformers, I'd say element4l is up your alley. If you don't fit this criteria, I'd think twice before purchasing. I mainly started playing this game because it was in my library(want to complete games before I start buying more), but I'm glad I did and I'm glad I stuck through it. The game is difficult, you will have moments of anger and might even contemplate abandoning the game like me, but getting the "you've completed the game" achievement makes it feel well worth it.
Got this game as a gift and I can tell you, this is the best thing I've ever got. It's super adorable and fun. Absolutely love the soundtrack. c: After like owning this game for 2 years or so, I'm still nowhere near finishing it, since it's practically impossible for me, but every time I return to the game, it makes me kinda happy. S-A-D-A로 가속을 최대화 해서 통과해야하는 구간도 있음
화염(D) - 외부 요인이 아니라 유일하게 유저가 가속 할 수 있게하는 원소. 앞으로 전진하며 화염기둥 뚫고 감.
난이도는 어렵지만 꾸준히 하면 나름 클리어 할 수 있게 되어있음. 그런데
4번째 챕터 3번째 구간 양심 ㅇㄷ? 가속 받고 튕기고 다시 가속하고 튕기는 변태같은 구조를 2번이나 하게끔해놔서
거기서 포기하고 이지모드 켜놓고 클리어해버림
거기서 한시간 가까이 삽질한거 생각하면 열받네

Очаровательная индюшка с прекрасной музыкой. Довольно несложный платформер, проходится часа за 3, если ручки прямые и не искать все души?огоньки?неведомые хреновины? на уровне, я прошла за 4 :3 Так что идеально для позалипать и расслабиться. Очень атмосферная игра, однозначно вернусь к ней еще
Apparently I am one of the few people who do not like this kind of game. The trailer looked very appealing, and I gave it a fair try, but I only got frustration out of this: no Zen, serenity, satori, or any of the other mental delights many players apparently experience.
Fun little game, gives a nice relaxed vibe to it, if you want to relax!
Juegazo que ya tuve la oportunidad de probar en windola hace años y ahora me digné a comprar su versión multiplataforma actual a travez de Steam para recompensar a los desarrolladores como de lo merecen.
Y de cualquier modo me estoy entreteniendo nuevamente rejugandolo :D
NOTA: La compatibilidad con joystick/gamepad es tirando a nula (sólo toma los direccionales), pero es lo q hace falta para jugar asique basta con darle al "enter" del teclado para pasar al siguiente nivel y eso.
A great game with wonderful music, beautiful art and interesting mechanics. Played it with my girlfriend and can say that it is VERY beginner friendly (if you are new to gaming). You can approach the game in any way you want, endless possibilities there. Grab it on a discount for sure.
Demasiado difícil para la idea que propone. Mueres de 1 hit y la estamina se gasta demasiado rápido convirtiendo lo que a primera vista parece una experiencia agradable y bonita en un agobio constante y repetitivo. Las mecánicas que propone son muy interesantes pero el ritmo que impone el juego no deja que disfrutemos de ellas. Añadir que no está actualizado para resoluciones altas, se puede jugar en 2k y 4k pero se nota la falta de resolución ya desde el menú, teniendo en cuenta que es un juego de 2013.
This game did not suck!
Element4l is a little game about utilizing 4 elements and the powers of gravity and momentum to navigate your way through levels. It has a nice atmospheric soundtrack to accompany you as you slide down tunnels, shoot out of geysers, bounce off of walls and glide above death pits.
It is fairly challenging, forcing you to be inquisitive, learning how to preserve or gain enough momentum to overcome obstacles, as well as learn how each of the elements' abilities work in tandem with one another (such as using Fire's leftward boost and switching to Ice for some speedy slippery action).
Overall the game isn't very long, but is well worth the price. It is a fresh experience and a good way to kill a few hours.
I recommend it wholeheartedly.

It's a platfomer where you can switch mechanics by changing elements. It sounds fun but I found it brutal. You need excellent focus to do it which is not what I expect from what I considered a casual game. I'll give it the thumbs up for originallity.

I love this game, the atmosphere and music are so meditative and relaxing, and the art is so pretty, that even after playing through and finishing the story I find myself wanting to play more.
The gameplay itself is immensely enjoyable, easy to learn, but very tricky to master, and with online records and other time trial type goals the replayability is pretty limitless.

A lovely physics-based platformer. Beautiful soundtrack, nice art, and encouraging/funny text to accompany your playthrough.
Element4l starts out with an interesting idea, but it seems to exhaust its potential after about 20 minutes. After that, the gameplay feels slow and repetitive. I looked at a video of the final level and it doesn't add any ideas you don't see in the first world.
The stamina mechanic is annoyingly executed. Stamina refills over time continuously, but you need a discrete amount of stamina to use a transformation. The continuous nature of the stamina meter makes it hard for the game to have tight controls. You don't get a good visual indication of when you'll regain enough stamina to transform, so you're encouraged to button mash.
Good idea but needed a lot more polish.
This game seems interesting but the game mechanics and controls are a bit finecky. You have to have A LOT of patience to finish this game.

Platforming mobile game on PC. Trash. Doesn't even have full controller support after all these years. Good thing got this in a bundle years ago, otherwise would have never touched this.
I'm not gonna downvote this game for a number of reasons, though one thing really bothered me: MAN is this game unforgiving. The problem is that when you start the game you think "Oh alright, one of those awesome soothing games, I'm just gonna enjoy it while listening to its soundtrack (which is perfect btw) and the gameplay is gonn- I DIED AGAIN???" Yes! When they said "Just don't expect a walk in the park" they meant it, *this game is hard as hell*. Anyway, wait for it to be on sale and buy it.

First off all this game worth playing and I recommend this game alot.
Collectibles,achievements and easter eggs are great.

This is a very nice and unique game, it definitely is worth a try. :) Also, you can change difficulty on Options, which is great. And be aware, that it can be quite hard at times.
Charming, light, fun game that gets less charming and less fun over time. Overall I still enjoyed it and it is worth picking up on sale. 6/10
Pros:
-Simple mechanics
-Relaxing gameplay
-Easy to pick up/put down
-Great music
Cons:
-Would get random slowdown at times. Which for such a simple game seems strange
-Some puzzles felt overly fiddly, and kind of unfun in sections.
-Everytime the "Press H for Help" dialogue showed up it was really annoying. Just let me puzzle it out and turn that popup off.
Incredibly fun, very original, quite pretty, and always uplifting. My favorite part of this gem: the music. My least favorite part: it's just too short. The replayability is good, but not great, as the levels are fairly linear. Still, I'd probably pay $5 just for the music, so having a game along with it is a nice bonus.

Also, far too much of the game relies entirely on luck. These two aspects make the game unplayable, for me at least.

Beautiful and inspirational environments and music. Really fun and relaxing game for all ages. Me and my girlfriend love to play it together because it makes you think and its incredibly cute!

Simple to learn but hard to master, which makes gunning for the optional collectables a lot of fun.
It's a short game with good graphics and story(undertermined, little scenes and words). The game has a big difficulty in some parts, but if you seek difficulty, getting all the gold flags is an insane challenge. The Soundtrack of the game is a masterpiece: Atmosphere is there. Works on any computer, and has few bugs, I recommend wait for an offer.
