I'm coming at this review from the perspective of someone who doesn't play a lot of strategy RPG's, really enjoys roguelike/roguelite experiences, but only spent 45 minutes with the game. I'll say now that I do recommend the game based on what I saw, but that doesn't come without its caveats.

First off, the limb system, both as extensions of your characters and as a targeting method to combat is unique and interesting, but I found wondering if there is enough complexity built in to keep it engaging or for it to evolve into something more. I did adjust my strategy in a satisfying way as the initial battles took place, but I found myself wondering how deep that system could go, as it was already starting to feel repetitive in my short time with it.

The level navigation is presented like Slay the Spire but moving horizontally across the screen as opposed to vertically, and most (all?) of the instances you come across are taken from Slay the Spire directly. I noticed a relative lack of variety in some of the areas we visited though. For example, I visited 4 question mark locations throughout first level, and 3 of them offered the exact same instance with an alter, the only difference was a slightly different boon that was offered at each.

My biggest issue in my time with the game though was the relative lack of explanation for some of the UI elements. During combat there are icons that show up under enemies. I could assume what they were, but I really how no way of knowing for sure what each signified. I also apparently failed a puzzle challenge room, but it was due to the instructions not really conveying what I needed to do.

I really want to ensure that anyone who reads this understands that I only spent 45 minutes with a game that is obviously much larger in scope than that. The game does have a hub area that I was just barely exposed to complete with character recruiting and several other nodes I never even looked at. There also appears to be several story moments to work your way through. It's clear that Darkest Dungeon is an inspiration for this game, and no, it doesn't reach those heights, but for $6.99, I think it's definitely worth a look.
