this game made me a married dad with 2 kids, named asriel and kris. one day, asriel left to go to college and it split up the family. my wife toriel wasnt the same and divorced me because of weird sus reasons but then i opened a flower shop with the help of C. after that, ive been trying to get toriel to come back to me because i didnt do anything wrong and i just want to be a happy family again so i try selling flowers and giving her flowers but it doesnt work so i go to the store and try to buy her stuff there but she doesnt accept it so i jump out of some bushes near church to give her my best flowers but she runs away and i end up giving them to kris and their friend named sussie who is a little weird but i dont judge anyways i also work for the mayor of hometown and we work together very well

This might be the worst Duck Life yet.

For starters, its runtime (3-4 hours) is SUPER padded. A significant portion of that runtime is just watching your duck slapfight the other duck until one of them dies of old age. The number of minigames is somewhat higher than previous entries, which the game thankfully accounts for by having them be comically bad. I genuinely cannot stress enough how poor the quality of the minigames are, and the few passable ones are direct rips from other, better games (Swords and Souls absolutely blows this game out of the water).

It is baffling that this is the 7th Duck Life game, and yet the same sloppy bugs keep coming back year after year. I played a good 15% of this game with no music, simply because it just decided to cut out for minutes at a time. Thankfully I was not missing much.

The combat mechanics are also weirdly cryptic for how simple they are. You'll get a weapon that says "30 lightning" and be left more or less in the dark as to what that might mean. There is a rock-paper-scissors type matchup system (that also has no chart or the like to reference, so it relies on trial and error), but in reality there is little point in engaging with said system. The reason for this is that tournaments are against three consecutive opponents, and so the time and effort spent grinding for gear that matches up well against every opponent would be much better served just levelling up to the cap immediately.

Herein lies the biggest issue of this game. There is so little margin for error against the tournament opponents that your two best options are 1. Level up to the cap, or 2. Specifically set up a build to counter certain ducks, and then grind the gear and money to do so. The latter option is unintuitive, painstaking, and longer, and so the result is that most of the game's mechanics only serve to get in the way. The sidequest items, for example, are so quickly obsoleted that they are a waste of time to even bother collecting, let alone spend coins to level them up.

I do want to mention that there are a couple of funny moments in the game. The first is that one of the first enemies you fight suggests that he's going to hang himself if you don't take his rope item, and the second is learning that the city area is a No-Fly-Zone, which has all sorts of weird implications.

Anyways, this game is not worth your time or money. I will continue to review every duck life game though because it is my ordained mission.

Oh my goodness this game is glitchy! I had too quit this game a long time ago because my game/save was actively being corrupted every time I booted the game. The game would just spawn me in front of the first gym, my duck would be red (not my choice color) and his face glitched out. Before that, if I left the game on too long the music would lag more and more seemingly the longer I played. Now I would like to say I'm not 100% sure but I think I was using Win 10 at the time but I might have been playing on the Steam Deck, which this game is not optimized for. I started playing again seeing they've updated recently and thought I would give it another go (on the Steam Deck). It's Playable... I guess... I want to play with controller controls only (cuz im on the Steam Deck) but some things straight up don't work with controllers only. One of the first mini games where you have to match up the colors is actually unplayable because you have to press X and Y to select the color, but X and Y are the Pause and Exit buttons, so you literally exit the game, making it unplayable for controller users. There's another glitch that happens when switching from mouse mode to controller mode, and I'm not sure what triggers it exactly, but it makes it so the last happening happens again. Take for example you exit a gym, if you press left click to switch to keyboard mode, and switch back by pressing A, your character might suddenly queue the "entering the gym" string of code and enter you into the gym. Or here's another fun one, You beat a guy in a battle and he gives you a weapon, and when you press A it happens again, he gives you the same weapon. I have like 70 something Fireworks in my inventory because of this. I was hoping I could do something like this with coin rewards but I had no luck. Another thing, I can't 100% the game because there's a guy blocking the path to an item saying "You're not skilled enough to climb ladders" or something when I'm 100+ on Duck stats. The city is another funny one. So typically you cant fly to the city, it shows with a symbol that you can't fly there. Normally you would have to go to the swampy area and unlock swimming, but luckily there's a glitch with a controller you can use. Go back to the flying menu using the controller and click the city, done. That's all it takes. You're in the city and have successfully skipped the swamp. Another glitch is I cant use a controller in the shop because I might accidentally "double purchase" things because that's a thing. Normally the thing would just disappear but I guess I'll have two clown suits... By the way you can't sell items so I'm not sure why they programmed a number system for inventory, maybe there's a quest where you get multiple letters or something. Oh hears a really satisfying glitch! Using your controller, spin the rewards wheel, while it's spinning, use the mouse to click on the screen and when the mouse mode message pops up, exit out of that. Then, before the wheel stops, press A on your controller and the wheel will spin again! Do this till you actually land on the thing you want, not that the rewards are that great to begin with. Another minor glitch is when hopping in the mountain area, it doesn't queue the jumping animations when using controller, only mouse.

It's honestly kinda sad too see, as this game seems to have some of the very best mini games out of the whole series, and I wouldn't want to play a lot of them with mouse and keyboard, but the controls for everything else is horrendous. Duck Life 8 doesn't have nearly as many glitches if your looking for something less glitchy, but this games mini games are a lot more fun, and the map isn't huge for no reason. This in my opinion would be the BEST Duck Life game if they fixed all the glitchy controller issues, but as of the time of writing I cannot recommend this game.

REALLLY creative with the duck life franchise. Essentially abandoning the original formula and starting from stratch to make something much more different and unique. I love this game due to how it changes the script from racing to fighting. Also I feel like the minigames here are alot more creative and well thought out. good game for good price.

Not really worth the price even discounted, I know it is a port to steam but some of the minigames are pure luck or outright boring (Hold right to level). The game has resistance stats only for it to be bypassed by a few OP weapons, one in the beginning, middle and end. There isn't a exit button so you have to manually leave the game and since you can't tell it saves unless you go into the files, you are left feeling anxious the first time you exit. The special attacks at least add variety to the attack animations and the music is good so there is a plus.

While I do really enjoy speedrunning this game, I cannot recommend it due to the save feature not working (closing the game and trying to continue after spawns you out of bounds and it's impossible to get back in bounds after), and there being no way to exit the game other than manually closing it through Steam. It's definitely a fun game to play, but it's very short (~2-3 hours long on your first playthrough, maybe a bit more if you do all the side content) and doesn't really have much replayability (outside of speedrunning).

I bought the game despite being able to play on websites online just to support the creators and to try it out.

However, the game as it is on Steam is unplayable, not at all good enough to sell. The only problems are the lack of a save and exit feature. The only way to exit the game is with Alt F4, and after only two occasions of leaving the game this way, all of my progress is gone.

DO NOT BUY unless this problem is fixed, go play it online.

Other than that it's probably worth the price; Duck Life isn't the greatest game but it's cheap and a fun little time waster. Everything is balanced it seems, so my only complaint is the saving issue.

There is a small inconsequential bug where the duck, upon loading the overworld, will have its head and eyes glitched, though it goes away as soon as you move.
