ЧТО ЗА ИГРА
1. Dominions 4 (2013) – стратегическая пошаговая игра в старинных традициях: стратегическая карта + тактическая карта + процедурная генерация. Тактический бой – автобэттлер с приказами, но довольно богатый.
2. Много разных элементов => позволяет смешивать и пробовать. Hard to learn, even harder to master – зато огромная свобода стратегического выбора (ниже).
3. Примитивная графика, ужасный интерфейс из 1990х. Мануал детальный, но бесполезный. Самое главное в нем – таблица вероятностей на стр. 8.
4. Естественно, читинг. Например, ИИ не несет расходов на up-keep; выставляет войска от балды (off-map). Но это обычное дело для таких игр.
5. Остались баги. То игра пишет, что вот стрела с неба убила моего командира – а он живёхонек и даже не ранен. То пишут, что я убил вражьего Бога – а его даже в списке сражавшихся нет. В общем, игре не мешает.
• С game-breaking bug (ералаш на карте – см мои два последних скриншота) столкнулся за 700+ часов только раз, но зато недавно. Плохо то, что его не видно сразу: уже сделал два десятка ходов – и на тебе, дальше играть невозможно.
ЧЕМ ХОРОША
1. Она логично и последовательно описывает некий мир. Этим она выгодно отличается от современных игр, в большинстве своем представляющим скопище механик, передранных из чужих успешных игр.
• В этом смысле странно слышать в ее адрес упреки в несбалансированности. Мир и не должен быть сбалансированным. Взять хоть наш мир.
2. Широкий выбор стратегий у игрока:
ОБЗОР СТРАТЕГИЙ
1. Перенос неподвижного претендента (скажем, Фонтана Крови) на вражескую территорию. Неподвижные претенденты хорошо защищены и в бою свободно пользуются магией. Такой может даже в одиночку истребить целую армию.
• Если два игрока используют эту стратегию, может случиться битва неподвижных претендентов. Скажем, Монолит против Золотого Тельца. "Кто кого в этот раз победит?" (с) советская песня.
Естественно, эта стратегия требует времени – на изучение заклинаний переноса и боевых.
Разновидность этой стратегии – телепорт командира с сильной армией вглубь вражеской территории. Позволяет обойти приграничные районы с сильной обороной; вынуждает вражеские армии бросить защиту границы и бежать ликвидировать "освобожденный район"; прерывает коммуникации между вражеской столицей и периферией.
2. Исследовать решающее стратегическое заклинание и всех им убить. Требует времени. Кроме того, требует выбора претендента, специализирующегося в нужной школе магии.
• Пример стратегического заклинания: Burden of Time.
Похожего эффекта можно достичь некоторыми мощными тактическими заклинаниями.
• Например, Heat from Hell.
Для этой стратегии надо выбрать правильную расу (для Burden of Time - мертвецов; для Heat from Hell – жароупорную) или иным способом обеспечить безопасность применения (например, применять Heat from Hell элементалями огня).
Для этой стратегии нужно еще время на сбор кристаллов магии нужного сорта.
3. Завоевание тупой силой. Например:
3.1. С упором на использование уникальных расовых юнитов.
• Если хотите, посмотрите мою книжку "Военная стратегия в компьютерных играх и реальном мире", там описана стратегия "выедания изнутри" для Ragha.
• В Дом-6 и особенно в Дом-5 использование этой стратегии ограничено Recruitment Points.
Кроме того, тут лучше использовать design points не на претендента, а на экономические бонусы (domain scales).
• В Дом-6 использование этой стратегии осложнено сокращением domain scales с трех до двух.
3.2. Выбрав претендента с высокими боевыми качествами. Позволяет очень быстро расширить сферу контроля, но чревато ранениями претендента или даже его смертью в бою. Вызывать обратно убитого бога очень долго и дорого.
• В рамках этой стратегии заманчиво сразу пойти со всеми силами к вражеской столице и осадить её. Тем самым вы нарушите связь столицы с провинциями и оставите оппонента без денег. Но против ИИ это работает слабо: он не платит апкип. Более того, он даже продолжает выставлять новые войска, хотя на графике его доход показан ушедшим в ноль. Правда, новых войск он выставляет всё же поменьше.
4. Накопить кристаллы магии для массированного применения. Тут нужен претендент с широким доступом к разным аспектам магии, чтобы как можно раньше выявить как можно больше магических сайтов.
4.1. Создать ударную армию из призывных существ. Требует времени для сбора кристаллов и изучение заклинаний призыва – общедоступные дельные начинаются где-то на шестом уровне.
4.2. Вместо призывных существ можно обвешать артефактами командиров до (почти) полной неуязвимости. Десяток таких терминаторов выкосят армию обычных воинов. Только надо брать мертвецов или механизмы (например, дать разум ожившим статуям) – у них нет усталости.
• В Дом-6 изучение артефактов замедлено, поэтому там следовать этой стратегии затруднительно. И рано обвешать волшебными цацками претендента (для стратегии 3.2) не получится.
Единственный известный мне способ выиграть время для долгосрочных стратегий – прикрывать границу местным ополчением (provincial defense).
• В Дом-6 не получится, там ополчение совсем хлипкое.
Если вы играете против ИИ на двух наивысших уровнях сложности, вам придется прикрываться ополчением даже в рамках стратегии 3.2, потому что ИИ на максималках выставляет войска off-map уже очень обильно хода так с 14го, причем сразу везде.
Ополчение Раннего Века самое слабое, Позднего – самое устойчивое. Я так понимаю, это связано с качеством доспехов. Для пущей надежности добавьте к ополченцам сотню-полторы лучников. Желательно в сопровождении мага, превращающего стрелы в огненные.

Honestly the most interesting series I have played to date. This one was an intruduction to the series. I also play Dominions 5 and Dominions 6. All great game in the series, with slight differences, but always more added with each release.

Getting this on sale was the best gaming decision of my life, once I feel like I am done with this one I'll get Dom 6 and spend all that time on this all over again.
Dominions 4, c’est une promesse immense, un puits sans fond de stratégie, de magie, de dieux personnalisables et de nations exotiques. On sent la richesse, la profondeur, les possibilités infinies puisqu'on peut créer ses dieux et unités.
Mais voilà : rien n’est expliqué. Menus archaïques, interface illisible, zéro tuto. Si tu veux comprendre comment ça marche, il faut aller lire des pavés sur des forums obscurs. C’est frustrant, parce qu’on devine le génie derrière le chaos. Personnellement, je n'ai pas le courage pour me créer un tutoriel de toute pièce !
Je voulais plonger dedans, pas devoir passer par trois guides, un wiki et une vidéo d’1h30 pour comprendre les bases. Dommage car je sens bien qu'il y a beaucoup à en tirer !

Just way too complicated for me - this game has gathered dust in my library for years because every time I've tried to play it I've just landed up scratching my head trying to understand what is going on - even a tutorial video on YouTube took like an hour just to get past some of the starting options, before even really getting into any game play.
Not helped by the fact that there doesn't seem to be a proper inbuilt tutorial (well there is in theory, but it directs me towards reading the manual and there is no on-screen help or tips that I can see). I like inbuilt tutorials because surely the people who developed the game should be best placed to tell us about all the mechanics and what is important, and if they don't see making the game comprehensible as being important then I'm kinda wondering why.
Within the game I just feel like there is too much stuff - do you want your pretender to be a dragon or a tree, what types of unit (of the many many types on offer) do you want to build, keeping in mind that they all have quite complicated stats and features, and it's not clear to me at all where I get things like research from etc - like I just don't understand at all the decisions I'm supposed to be making and I assume the only way to properly understand is to spend many many hours on Youtube tutorials and playing the game through repeatedly. I think that one thing which I feel makes it harder as a beginner is that many of these decisions feel quite drastic - i.e. having a large potential impact - it's not like choosing a civ which will be slightly better at tech, or slightly better with military, some of these feel like very fundamental and major choices and I don't really understand them or their potential impact later in the game at all.
I appreciate some people will read this and think I'm just lazy for not putting in more time to understand it properly but the simple reality is that I don't have the time or energy to understand something this complicated where the developers haven't really (in my view) made a bit more effort to ease me into it, with a proper tutorial and maybe a more user-friendly interface / hints, and some efforts to help me understand what the realistic impact of different decisions might be. I've played plenty of strategy games with various levels of complexity but for me this is complicated past the point where I feel like I will enjoy overall spending the time required to understand it. I have lot of other games in my library which I've played more (many of them cheaper than this one) because they are fairly easy to get into and have a good tutorial to get started, and I have a job where I'm expected to explain what I've done to customers rather than just sending them something overcomplicated and expecting them to work for hours to figure it out. So I just don't really see a good argument as to why this game couldn't be a bit more user friendly.
p.s. I am not whingeing about the graphics here, I would still pick up Civ 2 and play it very happily if I had a copy right now I just think this game is too complicated for me to get into and the interface / lack of a proper tutorial doesn't help.
Go play Dominions 6 if you can afford it.
I simply don't get it. You'll be doing fine keeping up constantly against a computer opponent then BAM, they drop 860 troops. I finally had one going fine and had half the board secure and steadily advancing then BAM, I stormed a castle after 6 rounds of siege and my entire board was wiped out. My God was secure and all the way in the back portion of the map so not in anyway vulnerable. Just YOU LOSE! The enemy didn't have even 100 troops near my location I was attacking and I had close to 1000. Makes no sense but won't ever involve any time in this game again.
It's an interesting game but just as soon as you are getting ahead the computer opponents
Lucky I got this game for around $5 but I would not suggest even paying that whenever they run a special.
Thought about it and wish I could recommend this game but it's literally micro-management hell. Was thinking about how many campaigns I started and realized I never really completed any of them. The gameplay loop isn't fun, it's more tedious than anything. Playing around with all the units and all the different pretender gods is really fun but doesn't make up for the gameplay.
Comprehensive and challenging strategy game. Very much fun for long time.
What my time on steam doesn't show is the hours spent reading through the game manual, guides, and online forums.

I enjoy Conquest of Elysium III, and have played plenty of other strategy games (Civilization, all of the Paradox ones), but just haven't been able to get into Dominions 4 (or 3) the same way. Why? Primarily that the main gameplay loop - recruit units, move units, watch battle - feels more like a grind than fun. But also that there is insufficient feedback on what's going on given the level of complexity in the game.
Sometimes, you can tell why you lost. Your army drowned in a sea of arrows, for examples. But just as often, you'll lose to a slew of spells, which as a new player you have little idea what they are, and little idea how to counter them. You can train your own mages, of course, but how should you upgrade them? I pick upgrades more or less at random, sometimes trying to copy the AI's decisions if I can find the spell they cast in the large list of spell options, and it doesn't require way too many upgrades, which it usually does. Which speaks to another problem - the new player has no guidance in how to spend their magical gems.
Most games recognize that it takes time to learn complex systems, and have difficulty settings, but Dominions 4 does not.
Combat is tedious. You have a lot of units, which sounds cool, but you are moving your combat units individually, one province at a time, and if you lose a battle, they scatter to all the surrounding provinces you control, from which you have to move them, but if no or too few commanders joined the troops retreating to that province, you can't move those troops until you get a commander there. Other than the "auto-recruit each turn" option in a province, there is no automation. This has been done much better, and earlier. Civilization III has "rally points" to tell newly-recruited troops from a city (or a whole continent) to rally to a specific location. Hearts of Iron IV has a lot of units and complexity, but also has tools for automating the minutiae of moving troops around a front, alleviating the tedium that really slows down Dominions 4. Dominions needs [i]something[/i] along these lines.
And then there are the battles. I hear Dominions 5 made it so all the arrows/distance-based-spells are cast at once, which would help in speeding things up. And the battles can be cool, with dragons and elephants and arrow-firing apes, oh my! Watching them is pretty much required to gain insight into why you won/lost though, and takes up a lot of time. I'll count this as "improvements made in the sequel", but likely won't be buying the sequel given how little changed from 3 to 4 and the other unresolved problems.
And the "create your own pretender god" is more of a trap than a feature for new players. Having some pre-set "these are good option" choices would go a long way, as would any sort of tutorial on, "okay, you created a god with these attributes, here are some likely-to-be-effective strategies".
The other part that's largely missing relative to other strategy games is the non-warfare/economic side of things. There is a little bit of depth (only explained in the manual) to using castles to improve the economy, but essentially, magic is your economy and your technology in Dominions IV. And that system is much more opaque than traditional economy/technology in other strategy games. Need more gold in Civilization or Endless Legend? Build a market. Need more magic in Dominions? Conquer a province with magic (hard) or send a mage to each province individually to scout for more. But you'll almost certainly forget about that on half the turns (no way to automate it), and since you'll be magic-level-limited on your mages early, you'll have to redo the process again later if you want to maximize magic - an endlessly tedious process, but one that is to some extent necessary to do well.
One final system that simply needs better user interface is diplomacy. I lost my first several games because I thought everyone was at war with everyone in a free for all, and opportunistically attacked a couple of neighbors, and was soon overwhelmed. It turns out that isn't the case; the AI generally tries to only be at war with one neighbor at a time. So the key to not shooting yourself in the foot is to either wait for one of them to attack you, or if none does, pick just one to fight at a time. Easily solvable with a bit of user interface (and perhaps a confirmation warning if you attack someone you aren't at war with, as Civilization has had for quite literally decades).
Unfortunately, it seems that each game in the series simply adds more depth to the magic, with little in the way of user interface improvements. If Dominions 7 focused solely on quality of life improvements and user interface - not graphics, just feedback to the user about what's going on, and perhaps some tutorials about the systems - maybe I'd buy it. But as it is, there are plenty of other games that I find much more enjoyable and less frustrating.

Dominions is a wonderful game that brings my love for strategy, mythology, and robust magic systems all under one roof. I have over 30 hours on Dominions 3 and around 15 on Dominions 4, and while it’s a great series, the game is a literal pill to pick up.
While it’s very clearly a passion project, the amount of micromanagement can be painful and a lot of it could be simplified or removed altogether, especially in regard to AI. You don’t have direct control over your units or commanders in battle but you still have to set formations and orders, which becomes outrageously tedious in the later game when you have to do this for *every single unit* in your massive army. And this is a necessity, otherwise you will end up losing what should be landslides because your idiot armies weren’t optimized. You also have to be mindful of each territory’s defenses, unrest, random events, and if they’re at risk of being attacked. The micromanagement gets worse and worse with each new territory and army so it’s very easy for things to slip through the cracks, especially during long winded campaigns. If this were a Total War game, I would feel much different, but there simply isn’t enough depth to the main gameplay loop to keep me invested in micromanaging my nation for a 10+ hour campaign.
The magic system in this game is robust and had me salivating at first glance, but it is sadly a prime example of quantity over quality. The *vast* majority of spells are useless in one form or another and you’ll quickly identify the small pool of spells worth utilizing. There are some really nifty late game spells but require so much research, I rarely get to use them.
My only other criticism is how Dominions 3 and 4 are basically identical games, especially in terms of visual design, and the fact they’re sold as separate games instead of one game that received patches, fixes, updates, and DLC is hard for me to wrap my brain around. It’s not a $40 game, I can promise you that. Get it on sale or buy Dominions 3.

Certa gente definisce questo gioco come "complicato", ciò non è vero per niente, ci sono parecchi parametri da dover tenere a mente vero, ma una volta che impari a costruire, reclutare e muovere le unità sù e giù per la mappa vuol dire che hai acquisito le basi per vincere ogni partita.
La grafica è incredibilmente basica, le soundtrack sono quasi fastidiose, la mappa, il sistema di salvataggio e di movimento sono abominevolmente obsoleti.
Questo gioco non vale un decimo del costo prestabilito.
UI "update(?)": So they add the ability to write notes, but remove the ability to view your CD keys?
Dominions 4 comes with a key by default and the first time you download the game files one can check by running the game from the executable, not from Steam, that it prompts you for a key. After launching using Steam once, the key is saved to a file, in the same location of the executable.
The fact however that this option is removed [b]WITHOUT[/b] informing the people (the reason you [b]exist[/b] in the first place) in the change notes (Proof: [url=https://i.postimg.cc/qq2h7gMk/june-ui-steam-garbage.png]HERE[/url]) is inexcusable. Dominions 3 also has a key, saved in the same location.
Going downhill since 2003 and going strong. Keep it up!

Amazing game with an absolute ton of re-playability. It can be hard to convince my friend to dedicate their entire Saturday to playing, so we stick to small maps. the music is great, gameplay is great and extremely in-depth.

- UI интерфейс - мало что некрасив, непонятен, часть описания - не показывается вообще, угадывай.
- Обучалок нет. Казалось бы,большой ли косяк? А вот, в сочетании с отсутствием сейвов - очень даже.
- Цена. Коментарии излишни.
Вообщем-то идея была хорошая, но исполнение... Мда.
Никому не рекомендую.
Купите лучше настолку. Или любую игру от Paradox.
pretty good, want to try and get better at this game but its a really good mix of an RPG, godgame and 4x strategy. kind of what I was looking for all along.

All things considered. Fun fantasy game. Steep learning curve. Too much micro management later in the game. Despite its enormous content, overpriced for the quality.
If you are new to the game, it takes 40 hours of trial and error before you can beat the AI. It is not worth playing and learning this game right now for a price of 32 euros.
I played for a hundred hours and I just grasp the basics. Combat system is straightforward. Magic system is very deep and complicated. There is not a clear overview of what your mage can do. Instead there is a list of all spells. You will figure out over time what your mages can do. Its like role playing. Its an experience. You are not min-maxing your build.
Game is tedious in the late game when you have to micro all tasks every turn such as managing spell casting, walking troops back and forth to reinforce the fronts, playing whac-a-mole with raiding armies. It's not fun. It's a slog.
If you consider playing the game and don't bother watching these long tutorials consider the following: Pretender god build is very important (the leader of the nation you play as). Immobile pretenders (statues) are nearly invulnerable and can single-handedly kill armies. Some nations have strong sacred units this favours "bless builds". Sacred units that are blessed gain bonuses based on the magic skill of your pretender god in creation screen. As a rule of thumb all non-sacred units are expendable. Only priests can bless, they can also banish demons and undead units (which is very strong). Mages are extremely strong especially later in the game when you unlock techs. Magic is where the game gets complicated and the learning curve begins.
Very intricate grand strategy with all sorts of fantasy and mythical inspirations.

It's a great game, and I only don't recommend you immediately buy it because I think Dominions 5 is better. Though it must be said that sometimes I miss the ease of planning that went with the turn based combat this game has.
10/10 would buy it now to support Ilwinter anyway.
I grew up playing dominions 3 as a kid and I really loved it so I am biased. However Dominions 4 is a great follow up that keeps the best parts of the classic formula while fixing what few issues dominions 3 had. The province defense system is way better and the math is easier to understand. If you have never played any dominions before than I will say it is one of the best and most detailed fantasy games ever made. The graphics are simple however you will find its better that way because you can keep up with whats happening in the late game when things really start to get crazy.

I think it's a good game. Once you get the hotkeys down, it's one of the fastest, grandest, in-depth strategy games I've ever come across.
A friend called it "open book test". No "tactics" to speak of, turn based strategy. Graphics from 1995. Huge lore, enormous magic system, very limited control of pieces in battle. Interesting design choices.
If you enjoy singleplayer turn bases startegy with hundreds of units its your game if you enjoy multiplayer move to dominion 5

잘 만들었다는 것도 알겠고 잘 짜인 전략 게임이라는 것도 알겠다. 복잡하고 정교한 전략 시뮬레이션이라는 것도 알겠고 세계관이 방대하고 세심하다는 것도 알겠고.
그런데 그런 하드코어 4x게임이 인게임 튜토리얼, 툴팁, 가이드 같은게 전혀 없다.
고생고생해서 15분 만에 튜토리얼 맵을 찾아냈는데, 튜토리얼 안에서 아무런 정보도 제공하지 않았다. 5분간의 시행착오 끝에 튜토리얼 맵은 게임 매뉴얼에 적혀있는 글을 그대로 따라하는 것이라는 점을 알아냈다. 게임 폴더를 뒤져봤지만 매뉴얼이라는게 없었다.
30분 간 맨땅에 헤딩해봤지만 건물 짓는 법, 부대에 영웅 배속시키는 법 하나 알 수 없었다.
아니, 너무하는거 아니냐?
1991년에 나온 문명 1도 도움말은 있다.

P.S.매뉴얼은 스팀 상점 페이지 오른쪽에 있더군요. 이거 하나 못 찾아서 30분간 고생했다니...

Dominions is a diamond among hidden gems.
Overall, the game is fairly fun with a good amount of replayablity. And if you can get multiple people into a game it becomes even more fun, with actual diplomacy and a chance for Roleplay.
Just wonder what makes people like this game...

A bit pricey, but a deep fantasy civilization simulator and very interesting in it's builds and combat mechanics. More of a management strategy 4X game.
Customising your god is awesome and the immersion works even with these microsoft paint graphics.
This game is awesome :) What more needs to be said. :) simple graphics but the game has an interesting charm that is undeniable. Build up your kingdom & crush your enemy with what ever type of units you decide to fill your army with. Equip them with cool gear that makes them more powerful. The game does have a lot of room for improvement tho. I haven't played Dominions 5 yet so I can't say one way or the other as to whether or not this has been added but I think it would be great if there was a unit that effectively would be a beast catcher & tamer. It would work like this The beast catcher could be ordered to search province they are in & depending on how much experience they have they could catch creatures and those creatures would be male or female & then you could commission the building of a beast farm & then have that beast tamer go there and breed the creatures you have caught effectively allowing the player a new way to grow armies, they would require resources of course and gold for upkeep but the creatures could end up so powerful it would be well worth it. :)
Still beginner, but I enjoy the gameplay and customization possibilities, especially map creation.
UI is so small my eyesight is decreasing. D3 was fine in this regard, but 4 is awful. I want my money back, but it's too late for that. Don't buy unless you have a very small screen.
Great Game. High, but not absurd learning curve. Easy enough to get to where you can play and enjoy; but deep enough it will take a long time to "master" it. Graphics are rudimentary, but for a strategy game, they're competent. Some controls are under-designed or reliant on confusing hotkeys rather than being intuitive (assigning summoning to multiple mages/priests, having commanders repeat commands, duplicating commands). Not a perfect game, but a very enjoyable and replayable game. The 5th version exists (and is only $5 more), I haven't played it, but I'd recommend buying it over this, given how close the prices are. And a 6th edition should be out fairly soon (I hope).
It was so great as the Cthulhu and Atlantis sea people conquering the seas from all the crab-people, and merfolk, and frog people, then Middle Ages Ermor sent a bunch of skeletons into the water. It's fine, I put it down, but then once the seas were conquered I noticed the land looked a bit same colored as well... The skeletons kept coming. The Cthulhu sure are good casters but they sure do not have a lot of morale, but my troops stand up okay if it wasn't that there are a lot of sea tiles that don't produce a lot of units... Oh, that's how you research new magic.
That was my first campaign, my second has been much better.
I tried And tried to learn this game. I tried the "tutorial" it says something about a manual that doesn't come with the game. The so called "tutorial" only starts a new preset 1v1 game it doesn't teach you anything about the half hidden complicated UI. There is something wrong with your game if you have to spend most of your time on the internet to understand a game. I was so excited to learn this game but in 6 hours the only thing I've learned how to get troops but i don't know what i did to get more and how to move them to there deaths. With all that said it also looks like it was designed on a moldy potato with the graphics a static.
Only buy if you like watching youtube or using reddit more than playing games and then don't waste your money just do the research.
Wonderful strategy game. Really fun to spend time in and the fact that you can make (generate) your own maps is really cool. Would recommend for people who like games such as Total War Warhammer, Age of Mythology and other strategy games involving a contemporary time frame with a fantasy twist. Know that you don't quite get the control over battles but you still get to see the battles play out. There's a ton of cool units, spells and world-events to play around with as well.
The learning curve is not as steep as I thought it would be. If you've played these types of grand strategy games before, you'll get the hang of it quickly. All-in-all, give it a go! Don't let graphics be a decider between you and a good, fun game.
Easy to learn, hard to master 4X strategy. Is somewhat similar to Warhammer Total War series, but with less number of of more polished mechanics. The game has a lot of unique nations to play, with hundreds of heroes, gods, spells and items, so you can have a lot of freedom in terms of building your perfect army.

This is a view from the king or god of a nation. You do not participate in 1v1 fights, or commanding armies on the field to charge or retreat in concert with battle mages and reserve cavalry. This is a game of you telling the generals where to go; recruiting mages to find magic sites to extract gems to build weapons to give to your leaders, or summon otherworldly creatures. This is being smarter than Alexander charging off without supply lines in the hopes each new province can support his troops. UI looks "dated" because it is not the purpose of the game. The king is not present for the battles, he only reviews reports to mobilize what works and sacrifice the waste.
Really, really good soundtrack.

Con questo quarto capitolo, Dominions ha raggiunto una discreta maturita’. Il prezzo di vendita’ e’ ingiustificabilmente alto, ma in saldo ormai il gioco si trova fra i 3 e i 5 euro. E’ da qualche tempo uscito poi+ il quinto capitolo, che ha qualche miglioria pur mantenendo lo stesso identico motore di gioco (tanto che le patch del 5 si applicano anche al 4); a parita’ di prezzo scegliete il nuovo capitolo, altrimenti andate sul sicuro e scegliete il 4.

At first glance the graphics might throw you off. The complexity might be somewhat unnerving. But here's what you get with a little time and exploration. . . .
Impressive Battles both in epic and single proportions.
What seems to be endless play through ways between troops, magic, divine, and demi-god rulers.
Extreme strategy that puts many other strategy games wanting.
Make sure you get this discounted as its a bit steep for the graphics it deploys and don't turn the music on it will make me fall asleep lol
Klassiker! Viel Einarbeitung, big reward.
An elaborate fantasy strategy game where you play an awakening god that is attempting to become the one god to rule the world. It has lots of different factions that play differently, a massive magic system, and a ton of replayability. My only criticism of it is that Dominions 5 is out now, which has all this but more of it.
Graphics and user interface: Straight out of the 1990's. If you can tolerate that, it's not a terrible game. There's a very deep and customizable system with tons of unit types, magic variety and all the intricate details of an old school 4x multiplayer game that you might expect.
There's a few things that stop me from recommending it though:
1. If you treat this like a single player game, there just isn't much here. It just feels old and out dated compared to other modern single player 4x games.
2. It's pretty over priced for just how old it feels, it looks and plays similar to the previous 3 games in the series.
3. At launch this could have been recommended for multiplayer as that's where this game shines despite the age or the price; unfortunately fans of this series flock to the latest version as soon as they can and in terms of multiplayer this has been replaced by Dominions 5.
So, where does that leave this? As a single player 4x game it was obsolete at launch and you could just as easily pick up previous games in the series for cheaper and get mostly the same thing out of it; and if you want the multiplayer (which is deep and rewarding) you'll need to move to Dominion 5 (or whatever is the latest) to keep up with the MP fanbase.
There are games you like, games you hate and there are some rare games that you love. Dominions (and they aren't paying me to say this) is THE PERFECT GAME!!! It is the ONLY RTS/ Turn Based Strategy game that actually involves strategy rather than tactics (I suppose Real-Time-Tactics/ Turn Based Tactics doesn't sound as epic as Real-Time-Strategy). Nevertheless, Dominions is an actual strategy game, where strategy is important and the actual tactics takes a back seat.
The game is so wonderfully in depth that veteran players can find endless layers to get lost in, while new players can largely ignore these intricacies and still enjoy the game. The more time you spend playing it, the more you learn about how all its minutiae fits in together and works in tandem. It's this wonderful depth that makes this game endlessly replayable.
I can't recommend this game highly enough. If you fancy yourself as somewhat a 'strategician,' if you like the idea of building armies, supported by astral mages that are only partly in this world, all ruled by a Prohpet who can bless your best troops with the kind of bonus that makes an army truly terrifying, then THIS is the game for you. You might not understand all that I said in this review the first time you play it, but eventually, it will all make sense and when it does, you'll be writing a review just like this one.

Dominions is like that "too cool" ex that you dated for 6 months.
It was a little tough at first, to break through, but then you finally clicked, after which things got crazy and fun because everything was new. You were doing things you didn't even know were possible, and there are oh so many possibilities. You ignore the flaws because you're having fun and in the back of your mind you're thinking "I can live with this! I'm in love!".
Then after a while you start seeing the stretch marks, you start realizing that it's all a lot of the same. You realize that the perceived depth doesn't translate into actual fun, everything is just skin deep and you go "I'm not actually into this..."
I hit that point at around 30 hours. I came back to try and relive the glory again, I get sucked in for maybe 3 hours and then I realize "I'm not enjoying this..."
Is it a good game? I sunk over 50 hours into it over the years so it must have something going for it...
Would I recommend it? Yes, but only so you can say you've had the experience.
If you can get into this game it is very rewarding, so much to learn! Even 100 hours in I still feel like I'm still figuring out the strategies.
Could be a nice game. I won't repeat all the pro's mentioned and I agree, but 1 thing annoys me so much its a NO for me.
Movement.
First of all I don't like armies moving unhindered against an opposing force. This means a strong army-front can easily be breached when you attack and the AI counter-attacks. The units then ignore eachother and tiles are swapped.
Increasingly annoying is when the AI knows exactly when you move, and counter moves. If you wait 2, 5, 6 or 10 turns the AI does nothing. When you finally move, the AI counters by capturing the land from where you attack. Even with superior force, you can lose because the enemy keeps capturing lands this lame way.
Only one thing prevented me from playing this more.
And that was it's sequel Dominions 5.

If you're into fancy graphics, you'll be disappointed. If you're into strategy games with surprising depth, drawing from a wide variety of mythologies to create a very interesting experience, you'll be pleased. If you can ignore the primitive presentation you'll find many hours of fun here. Standout features are the magic system and sheer variety of civilizations to choose from across multiple eras. If you've ever wanted to open a gate to hell and summon an insane undead Greek titan and have him fight Lovecraftian monsters while the Jewish devil fights Norse frost giants, this is your game. Only real downsides are limited tactical scripts and minimal changes between iterations of the series. To be honest if you're thinking about Dom4, you should just get 5 instead unless you have friends who play 4. It's basically the same game but improved a bit.
Dominions and Conquest of Elysium are great games I can´t stop playing.
Very deep game, every play-through is totally different. I kinda wish the battles had the option of playing out in RTS though, I think that would be pretty sweet.

世の中には「カジュアル受けは絶対にしないが、ゲーマーには絶対的に支持されているゲーム」というのが存在している。
例えば、2001年からシリーズ初作が開発され、今もなお開発が続けられている『Dominions』シリーズはそうである。この作品は、ファンタジーを舞台にしたシミュレーションゲームであり、一つの世界の支配を巡って国同士が争うという仕組みになっている。
礼儀上「おすすめ」にはしているが、今さら『Dominions 4』を買う必要はない。いわば続編である『5』との違いは一切なく、興味ある人がフルで遊べる「体験版」として、『5』の前に買うくらいのものだろうと思う。実際、『4』の段階でかなりボリュームがあり、ゲームに惚れ込んだか、やり尽くして続編をやりたいなら『5』といった、入り口に買うものであろうと思う。なので、セールで75％以下だったりするとき以外には買う理由は殆どない。『5』を買え、『5』を。
さて『Dominions』シリーズに関してなのだが、なぜゲーマーズ・ゲームなのかといえば、一言に言えば複雑に絡み合う戦闘の部分にあるといってもいい。
このゲームは国盗りゲームなのだが、そこに外交などは存在しない。あるといえば、戦争で相手を制圧するだけである。もちろん、AIのバカじゃないから、こっちが有利なときは絶対攻めてこないし、こっちが弱ってくるときは潰しに群がってくる。そういう意味では、軍事だけでもゆるやかな関係というのは、一応存在している。加えて明示はされないが、AIは攻めれられたら「敵対関係」になるフラグが立つ。だが、基本はただ殴り合うことのみ。至ってシンプル。
このように戦闘に全振りしているだけあって、本当に勝因がややこしい。例えば次のようなわけわからん殺しというのが発生する。

[*]グールやゾンビでアンデット集団を作ったら、相手の神官が浄化しまくって負ける。
[*]遠距離でちくちくやろうと思ったら、グリフォンなどに乗った飛行ユニットが後衛に飛んできて負ける。
[*]相手の装備が充実していて経験も豊富なため、少数陣営にめちゃくちゃにされて負ける。
[*]相手の神の影響力が多大なため、相手にいやなバフが付きまくって負ける。
[*]城を包囲されて食料が突き、ユニット病気になったところを突破されて負ける。

……とまあ、考えられるだけで、これだけの負け方が存在している。
負けて覚えないといけないゲームに加えて、ターンの巻き戻しも出来ないので、不利を巻き返せないとずるずると負け続けるという悲惨な状態に陥る。
この負け方一覧を見て「ということは、これだけ勝ち筋がたくさんあるってことだよな！燃えるぜ」という人は、このゲームに向いている。逆に「なんか面倒くさいゲームだな……」と思ったら、あまり向いていないと思う。
とにかく膨大な魔法、装備、ユニット、そしてそれに付随する能力に加え、土地の散策やら偵察やら研究やらも存在しており、さらには本作を特徴づける「神の影響力」を伝播させるための寺院の建設やらということで、一週間か一ヶ月かけてWikiを見ながら覚えることが多い。言い換えればそれだけボリュームが多く、複雑で、深みがあり、やればやるほど楽しくなるということなのだが、悪く言えば一つのゲームにそれほど時間がかけられるかボケナスということになる（言葉が悪い）。
幸いなことに『Dominions 4』は昔からのハードなゲーマーたちが情報を集めたWikiが充実しており、またプレイ報告なんかも存在しているので、英語がわからなくてもそのページを見ればだいたいどうプレイすればわかるようになっている。
もしあなたが一つのゲームに一年かけることを苦ともせず、シミュレーションが大好きで、とくにファンタジーが大好きで、英語も苦ともせず、しかもチープなグラフィックなんか気にせずに「本質」をやりたい、そして1ターンにウンウンと頭を悩ませることのできる硬派なゲーマーなら絶対にやるべきだろうと思う。そして、これだけ前提を踏まなければいけない時点で、恐らくカジュアル向きではない……。
俺は意地でやった。そういうゲームである。
Dominions 4 is the fourth in a series of 4X turn based grand strategy games where you play the role of a would-be god and use powerful magic and massive fantasy armies to defeat your rivals and take over the world by capturing all the territories on the map.
The game is extremely rich and deep in terms of the game design, with hundreds of unit types, a veritable arsenal of magic weapons that can be created, a couple dozen different empire types, the list goes on. Unfortunately, while the game has such excellent depth and meaningful complexity, there's a couple of reasons I can't really recommend this to other gamers in general, despite having put a few hours into the game.
The graphics are a huge let down here, they're mid-1990's quality at best despite the game being released in 2013. The developers superseded this game with Dominions 5, so there's no reason to recommend this. Finally, an eye watering $50 price tag is just unacceptable here. It's too niche and the poor graphics and interface aren't apologised for sufficiently for that kind of AAA price tag. If the game interface and visuals matched the price tag it might be a different story.

新しい唯一神に自国の主神を据えようハルマゲドンの４作目。初期チーム戦など追加されたVerでもある。
基本英語しかなく日本語化されていないが安心安全。なにせ本作に関しては海外ですらわからないときは「データバンク：Dom4inspecter / 解説：Dominions4日本語wiki」というレベル。それぐらい充実しているwikiがあるのであとは操作ぐらいだろう。
現在では Dominions5 があるため、どうせならそちらをおすすめするが日本語ではこちらもまぁ悪くない。というか日本人ならこちらで慣れてから5に手を出すのも手。それぐらいwikiが充実しすぎている。これをみたあとDom5をみると…。
なお戦闘バランスではDominions4は戦闘システム上槍兵がとても強い。特に長柄槍の集団は異様に堅実。また行動が敵と味方と交互に動いてく点に注意。この関係でDominions5とはTrampleがまた違った強さになっている。こちらのほうが正直タコ殴りされすぎて脆い。といっても初期のElephantはひたすらに凶悪である。
ビジュアル：ドット絵レベルのサイズ。二コマしかないあたりで察してほしい。
かわりに2900以上のアイコンがあるという部分も。流石にここまで多いのは珍しい。
内政：建築と土地探査。一部の国は女の子収集。あとは魔術師雇用してひたすら研究。
戦争：指揮官は開始５Ｔまでの行動を指示。以後は大まかな方針のみ。
一般兵は２Ｔ待機の有無と大まかな目標指定。
隊列は固まるか戦列を組むかやや分散するか。
あとは自動で殴り合い。命中などは2d6の判定で行われる。
外交：ハルマゲドンなのでそんなものはありません。ただしプレイヤー間に限ってはメッセージや物資を送ることは出来るが専用の取引システムはない。騙し騙されの世界である。
収支：金銭は州の人口に依存。要塞でその州に限り増加。
維持費は１ターンあたり雇用費の1/15.Sacredなら1/30。
極一部例外はあるが宝石は魔法土地に依存。戦略画面で使う魔法は宝石を消費して使うことになる。
資源はターン当りの雇用限界に影響。余らせても金銭には一切寄与しない。
勝敗：すべての敵の領土を制圧する必要はなく、敵の宗教を根絶やしにしたら勝利。
本作からは規定数のThroneに登壇することで勝利をもぎ取れるようになった。
ユニット種類：２９３６種。すべてに解説文がある凝りよう。
MOD制作は容易。一応構文はすべて載っているが公式の説明書に必要なデータが足りないという欠陥があったりもする。いい加減公式の説明書にも全部乗せてくれませんかね…？
細かいところは dominions4 wiki を見よう。実質説明書なので（特に魔法は）熟読したい。
It is severely addicting, I will start a campaign that will last for about 30 hours and not be burnt out. great strategy, economy and micromanagement of most any game i have played.
Good game Don't know how to play but I'm having fun getting my ass handed to me by Easy Defensive A.I. started wars. Good game would buy D5 for sure if it went on sale just to see what is different. I rate 5/5000000 its a good game don't buy
Its a good game Grand strategy with high dificulty if you like or a more casual gameplay if thats more into your playstyle.
As a long time DM and fan of history, Dominions is a great game to satisfy that pseudo-realistic-fantasy-hard-strategy game itch. I loved summoning elemental gods, as a living evil statue of strife, to lead armies of living flame mages to burn armies of cthulhu horrors.
Not a bad game but lacks Steam trading cards.
