이 게임을 진득하게 팔 자신이 없는 나는 맛만 좀 보고 도망가야겠음
Cave Bullet Hell Shooter
It was easier than Bug Princess, and the ability to adjust the difficulty made it easy to get started.
A unique feature is that you can clear counter-attack bullets with familiars, and using a power-up turns it into a score item.
The achievements are very difficult; there is a 1-coin clear challenge for each character, and there is also a challenge where you must reach level 999 without using continues, then defeat the boss that appears after you defeat the first phase of the final boss without taking any damage.
Since I don't have the confidence to stick with this game, I think I'll just get a taste of it and run away.

This game frustrates me to heinous ends. On one hand you have great music, stage art/enemy design, and very satisfying and tight gameplay... On the other you have character design created in joint by diddy and epstein, seriously it is inescapable, the characters are wretched. Every time I boot up I feel happy playing the levels, then the post level thing happens, or a (unskippable!!!(i tink..)) story section comes up and I feel like that dude in the walking dead, late walking dead where ♥♥♥♥ gets really crazy, like that guy who was watching over a bunch of people and was like, you know what? I am going to hammer a railroad spike through a table then slam my head on it to kill myself.
I've tried this game multiple times over the years and unfortunately have to walk out on fun gameplay and one of the fewer interesting fantasy/gothic themed shmuppies because the art designers decided "Hey! Lets make a game where we are epst-diddy, and we want the player to be diddy-stein! That will be good!"
Yeah, not this time, diddy. You won't win.

Embora eu não tenha grande familiaridade com jogos do gênero shoot ’em up, a experiência mostrou-se bastante positiva, especialmente pelo estímulo à experimentação e ao aprendizado progressivo das mecânicas. A ambientação gótica constitui um dos principais destaques do título, assim como sua direção artística e trilha sonora, que se sobressaem ainda mais quando se considera que o jogo foi originalmente desenvolvido para um hardware tecnicamente limitado à época.
A versão disponível na Steam reúne seis variações distintas do mesmo jogo, o que amplia de forma significativa o fator de replay. O título oferece diversas opções de acessibilidade, como a possibilidade de reiniciar fases livremente, permitindo compreender melhor seus sistemas e padrões. Entre os jogos do subgênero bullet hell que experimentei, Deathsmiles destaca-se como um dos mais acessíveis e recomendáveis.

If you can get past some of the ... unique Japanese cultural design choices ... in this game then you'll find possibly one of your favourite shmups to play.
Tons of complexity in scoring that's incredibly fun to squeeze every single point you can out of.
Burning Halloweentown is the single best track in the game hands down.

Another great classic Cave shmup. There's technically another, more complete edition on Steam with I+II, but that's typically more than double the price per game, so if you only want the first game, this is a much better deal.
Deathsmiles has great Junya Inoue art, a great soundtrack, and isn't that much of a difficulty cliff, so if you're into shooters, you can do a lot worse than this.
死亡微笑系列，CAVE继能源之岚后的又一作横板卷轴射击，CAVE制作的横板射击算是较少的。
这个系列我是先于街机机台上玩的2代，算是白月光，因为这个系列的机子不多，所以甚至会出现排队玩的情况，记忆里只有两台可以玩到。其他卷轴射击倒是挺多。
1代玩起来也相当不错，正常难度下哪怕是新手也很容易通关，对于老机师来说稍加练习，想要破高难也并非难事。
似乎CAVE登录steam的移植版游戏都有成就无法解锁的问题，可上次一玩又能解锁成就。
无论怎么样，这游戏也算是回忆之一，不去街机厅时也会拿出来品鉴。
好游戏，黄昏时代的横板卷轴射击佳作，推荐。

케이브의 스팀 출시작으로는 두번째 타이틀인 데스스마일즈. 원작은 2007년 출시. 벌레공주와 비슷한 형태로 포팅 되었습니다. 서브 스크린 지원하고 뭐 이런것들 말이죠. 메인 스크린 스케일링이 안되는것도 여전하기 때문에 아케이드 버전의 경우 해상도가 더 작고 = 화면 사이즈가 더 작습니다. 그리고 데스스마일즈 2편은 케이브 명의가 아닌 다른 명의로 스팀에 출시되었습니다. 그래서 케이브 슛뎀업 번들에 2편은 빠져 있어요.
고딕 컨셉의 횡스크롤 탄막 슈팅이고, 좌방향 격발 버튼과 우방향 격발 버튼이 따로 있습니다. 좌로 쏘다 우로 쏘다 조건에 따라 둘다 같이 누르면 일종의 버스트 모드 돌입을 하는 것이고요. 케릭터마다 일종의 사역마 같은 보조 유닛을 데리고 있는데 이것도 특성이 조금씩 다릅니다. 요 보조 유닛의 포지션까지 고려해 가며 (특정 케릭은 트윈스틱으로 사역마 포지션 조정이 가능) 스코어링을 하는 것이 초고수의 영역이겠죠.
진행 루트와 스테이지의 난도를 어떻게 잡을 것인가 선택해서 '판을 짜는게' 가능하고, 스토리가 대단한건 아니지만 어쨌든 엔딩 분기 선택이 있습니다. 케이브가 슈팅 말고도 뭔가 보여주겠다고 시도를 했고 당시 기준으로는 괜찮은 아웃풋을 냈다고 생각해요. 물론 그걸 지금와서 해볼만한 가치가 있느냐는 다른 문제입니다만. 케이브 슈팅을 사랑하시는지 아닌지에 따라 결정하시면 될 것 같습니다.

Awesome horizontal shmup (where you can actually shoot behind you, I know, crazy stuff) with an amazing style and feel, and great music too on top of that. Not as brutal as some other shmups but it still offers a bit of a challenge, just mostly the last stage (+the extra one). So yeah, amazing game overall, but it is obviously very short so maybe wait for it on sale.

Worth playing every Halloween.
Cave makes my favorite shoot 'em ups. Though, while still quite good, Deathsmiles isn't on the same level as my favorites. I don't know if I just like vertically scrolling shooters more, or if the left/right facing mechanic gets in the way my enjoyment more than the extra tactical challenges it presents the player.
As stated already, Deathsmiles is a horizontal scrolling shooter. One of its biggest gimmicks is the player can face right or left. Which means there are a fair amount of enemies coming from both sides of the player's avatar. In the last few levels, being able to switch left and right become key to making it through. Overall, the mechanics work great for this. I just don't think it adds to my enjoyment of playing a shump.
The game also gives the player several different girls as avatars to play the game. Each with their own kind of shot/magic. And they all get there own story end if you care about such things in a shooter. Deathsmiles also features a sort of branching path stage select. Though, some stages are optional and others are just a matter of which is tackled first. Just note, the longer a stage is put off, the more difficult it becomes.
Beyond that, the game has a that extra smooth movement and game play Cave is known for. So, it plays fantastically. Making it still a very solid shump, even with the elements I didn't espeically care for.

Cool game, and the port is decent with different modes, but the main issue: The training mode is terrible. There is no way to directly practice the bosses. You can only start at the beginning of the stage. I need to play the emulated arcade game to practice this game. Why can't I practice from midpoints, and especially in the final stage to practice the bosses?

Deathsmiles II is the ugliest SHMUP that i've ever seen, and probably the worst CAVE game ever released, so i was never going to buy that train wreck on Steam.
The original Deathsmiles and Black Label are fantastic though.

アーケードゲームのSTGというのは難易度が基本的に据え置きだ。
90年代にもイージーにあたる難易度が選べるSTGはちらほらあったが、大抵ステージ数が少なかったりと「ゲーム全部を楽しみたかったらノーマルで遊べ」というものばかりだった。
ところが「虫姫さま」が登場すると「オリジナル」と「マニアック」の2つが選べるようになっていて、どちらも最後まで遊べたのは今思えば小さいようで革新的なことだった。
そして「虫姫さま」を作ったところが誕生させた本作ではいずれのステージにおいても基本難易度として3段階の難易度から選べるようになっていた。
とはいえ、当時のゲーセン版では先へ進むたびに易しい難易度が選べなくなっていて、真の意味での難易度選択の自由はなかったが、このSteam版ではどのステージも低難易度で遊べるようになっている。
操作が独特なので癖はあるが、弾幕STGの中でも難易度は（相対的に）低い方なので頑張れば報われる作品だ。
ただ、本作を買うぐらいなら本作と2の合作版をセール時に買った方が多分得なので、そのあたりはお好みで。
A masterpiece, greatest horizontal scrolling shoot em up of all time. Very challenging, a truly epic experience. Think you are good at video games? Play arcade mode on default settings and prepare to be humbled.

The scariest thing about this game is the thought of someone walking in on you while you're on the character select screen.

- The aspect ratio for the 4:3 game doesn't reach the top and lower edges of the screen in widescreen mode

It's been a long, long time since I've played a SHMUP and I have, for the most part, fallen out of love for the genre. Though this was a game with which I passed up on that long time ago when I just had too much and was not into them anymore. And I feel like that was a mistake.
Fortunately now I have the game and have played it and found what I had missed and I'm glad for that. While I don't know if I would call this the best SHMUP I've ever played, it certainly brought me back to that era of actually good games and is a great reminder of them.
Some days I wonder if modern games really are going bad or if have simply grown too jaded. Death Smiles has certainly rekindled my disdain for modern gaming showing that yes, games really were better back then. I definitely do recommend getting this. Even if you don't really like SHMUPs or just aren't really that good at games in general, it's still quite a wonderful experience of music and goth aesthetic. Did not disappoint.

デススマイル２はXBOX360でプレイしてて、面白いことも知っているのですが、このせいで悔しくてデススマイル1-2を買いたくありません。
The most approachable of the CAVE games I've played. The difficulty per level system makes it pretty easy to get into it, and the scoring system is pretty intuitive. They also commit fully too the spooky-scary halloween theming, which is pretty fun. I've been enjoying my time with it.

This was my 1st CAVE game and the pixel art and visuals still blow my mind how great this looks and plays.
I found myself going into all the modes from Arcade to Black Labels to get many awards, Blowing my mind I was able to do some of the challenges.

Engancha y es adictivo hasta unos límites casi ilegales, es la representación de ir hasta arriba de anfetaminas sin haber consumido nada. Termina de jugar y tu cabeza seguirá esquivando proyectiles.

もちろん難易度設定でレベルを上げると打ち返し弾が追加されるので、物足りない諸兄の期待に応えてくれるよ。
ひとステージが短くサクサク進めるからおつまみ感覚で遊べるのもイイね。
ラストステージだけは殺意が高く長めなので、そこへ向けてのウォーミングアップという感もあるけど…。
グラフィックもサウンドも良くてゲーセン気分そのままで遊べるのも嬉しい要素。

Cute game, cute character designs, lots of continues, touching storyline... this has everything! (Also Windia is best grl ^^)
Challenging, yet at the same very accessible to newcomers and those of moderate skill. As with most bullet hell, your first few runs will revolve around not dying, but one you become accustomed to the game, you can can delve into the scoring system, and that`s where the real addiction starts!
经典的横板STG。非常需要背板，敌人会从四面八方窜出来；对控制使魔有很高的操作要求，一方面要集火输出、速破敌人，另一方面又要控制使魔挡死尸弹；音乐和美术风格很赞，角色的人设尤其赞；把部分敌人和场景直接放进恶魔城可能都不会让人觉得违和。

另外，Steam版的48个成就是从XBOX 360版的50个成就中选取过来的，删除的2个成就分别是"Everything's Stopped!"、"Mother..."，想要全成就的玩家可以在一些XBOX论坛（例如TrueAchievements）上可以找到详细的成就列表、指南、玩家讨论、经验分享等等。
最后，简单说一下DEATHSMILES一代的各版本的主要区别：
（1）游戏共有6个版本；
（2）游戏分为原版（俗称“白版”）和Mega Black Label版（MBL版，俗称“黑版”）。黑版相比于白板：强化了之前的4个角色，新增了可使用的角色Sakura、一个EX关卡水晶神殿、关卡Rank 999难度、最终隐藏BOSS；
（3）白版和黑版各自有3个模式：① Arcade：街机版，图像低分辨率；② Normal：XBOX 360版，图像高分辨率；③ Version 1.1：在Normal的基础上做了调整，系统默认设定每条命初始携带的雷的数量从3减少到1，新增了单独控制使魔位置的操作（键盘F键）；
（4）总结：推荐玩原版的Normal模式（有大部分Steam成就）、MBL版本的Normal模式（强力角色Sakura）；Arcade模式画面较差——不推荐；Version 1.1模式较难——不推荐新手。
Didn't really know what I was getting into, and then I met Jordan
Game: A great shooting game, and considered by many to be Cave's easiest one, so a good place to start. The era of Cave's pre-rendered CG sprite graphics technique (or whatever it is) was at its height around this time, so it's beautiful. It also has a Namiki soundtrack which has a lot of iconic songs. Since writing this review, I've got arcade mode clears of all the non dlc characters, and a sakura arcade clear in MBL (though, it was in the newer port...), so I'll remove the part about how I totally suck. Really love this game.
Port: The consensus is that this is a decent port, in terms of input lag, slowdown, etc. There may be a lot of missing slowdown on the extra stages, but I am unsure if that is still the case. The Deathsmiles I & II port that is also on steam is considered more definitive in these regards, but it's also more expensive. Buy that one if you really love this game. You can get this one for a very good price in a bundle with two other excellent CV1000 Cave games, so it's still worth it unless you are hard committing to Deathsmiles (or god forbid Deathsmiles II). The biggest issue is the training mode could use improvement (boss select, especially).

Probably my favourite of the CAVE Bullet hell games. Each character plays differently from one another and the levels have a great charm. Bosses are difficult and fun and the soundtrack is fantastic. This game is also more accessible than many of CAVES other games.

My absolute favorite horizontal scrolling shooter. Fantastic graphics, music, characters, stage designs, bullet patterns, and dopamine inducing game mechanics make this game an eternal classic. It is a game I can always come back to even since the Xbox 360 days. If you're a fan of shooters this game is a must play, and one of CAVE's best.
