i recently saw the 10 year anniversary update and remembered how much i liked this game as a teenager and decided to revisit it and i'm happy to report it still very much holds up!
gameplay feels like a perfect blend between strategy and action and the soundtrack is fantastic!
the only real criticism i have is that the campaign is quite short but that problem is easily mended by a very well made new game+ mode as well as tons of great community made workshop levels.

Музыка на запредельном уровне качества, крис не теряет планку. В целом в играх хопу ощущается что то очень чистое, искреннее и уникальное чего в других играх я не замечал

I just finished this game. I highly recommend it to people who want a fun challenge, especially a speed run challenge. This game has a nice story and gameplay, definitely made me have a good first impression of Hopoo Games. Worth every cent.

Just finished this game, what a wonderful time.
Gameplay is great and the difficulty pacing/scaling feels so smooth. While I haven't played either Hotline Miami game, I've seen others make comparisons of Deadbolt to HM, so if you like Hotline Miami I'm sure you'll love this too. There's just enough new gimmicks, weapons and more thrown in every now and then to keep the gameplay from ever getting stale, it's such a fun and satisfying time throughout. The sound design REALLY elevates it in this regard, with a large majority of the weapons (The revolvers and other precision weapons in particular) being such a dopamine hit when you get that one-shot headshot.
The story isn't in your face, and while of course a good narrative helps a game, I think the lack of importance put on the story is fitting given that you're essentially a mercenary. When it comes to the lore the game DOES give you though, it's pretty neat! It won't blow you away or change your life forever, but undead gangs in purgatory are pretty cool I think.
This game is also a treat for the eyes and ears, the artstyle is wonderful. I might be biased in that regard though, as I adore detailed pixel-art graphice. And good GOD the soundtrack... Chris Christodoulou never misses. In fact, I learned about this game in the first place BECAUSE of the soundtrack and because I checked out his other work after being such a huge fan of the Risk of Rain OST. Love this man.
I only really have a couple nitpicks with the game. For one, I feel like the star-rating system is way too vague in it's requirements. Is it based on my time? My accuracy? Does killing every enemy give it a boost? I'm sure I could find the answers by finding a wiki or something, but I still wish it was explained better. As for my other nitpick... I just kinda want more lol. There's a lot of cool things in this game that, in my opinion, don't get too much time to shine. There are NINJA STARS in the game, but they're only available in like... 2 levels. That being said, I prefer experiencing difficult games like this in short bursts so maybe I'm wrong lol.
Even then though, my latter nitpick could be COMPLETELY negated by the custom content that the game has, which I haven't delved into just yet, nor have I tried out the Hard Mode you unlock after beating the game for the first time. Aside from that, I just.. don't really have any problems with the game, not any I can think of off the top of my head at 1 AM.
If you're looking for an easy-going or story-driven experience then you're gonna have to look elsewhere, but otherwise I highly recommend it.

Great game. Anything made by Hopoo Games is great. The scaling of difficulty is fun and clear. you can see yourself getting better and it's encouraging. Great game!

Balance of missions is janky at best. Enemies have infinite ammunition (of course) and you only ever have one magazine. Plenty of enemies have guns but when they die, won't drop the gun or ammunition. Oh, and when you throw a knife or a hammer and it misses - cool, pick it up. If you throw it and it hits someone, that's it. It's done - can't pick it back up.
It's a nonsensical way to make the game harder and to be honest, it just ends up being annoying.
Unlocks take *forever* to get as well, so you can forget about getting any really nice items easily...and frankly I'd just take the "Pockets" upgrade to carry an extra magazine around.

Это мой первый обзор и первая покупка в Стиме, играл в эту игру ещё на пиратке. Наконец-то рад в него вернуться и заодно отдать деньги разработчикам за их отличный продукт, но пора уже приступать к обзору...
Deadolt для меня является очень замечательной и запоминающийся игрой, а уж если вы ценитель такой франшизы, как Risk Of Rain, то я бы настоятельно порекомендовал эту игру, так как игра от тех же создателей и с таким же композитором, так что зацените его саундтрек и в этой небольшой игрушке!
Общее введение и сюжет:
Если говорить про саму игру, то представляет она из себя экшн-стелс, в котором мы играем за Reaper - наш главный герой, проезжающий очищать этажи зданий от нежити и после выезжающей на следующую миссию. Но не все тут так просто, в игре присутствует интересный сюжет и лор про трагичную жизнь мертвецов, обмана смерти и прочего, дающий смысл происходящему на экране. Он по большей части опционален, но если того желайте, то вчитывайтесь в кассетах, брифингах и диалогах.
Геймплей:
Говоря об самом геймплея, то он достаточно тактичен и динамичен, хоть это и стелс. Иногда придется попрятаться и выжидать врагов в темной комнате, а иногда устроить бойну или даже с гранатомёта пострелять придётся. Время от времени в игре появляются на уровнях свои уникальные механики, чтобы немного разбавить геймплей. Мы можем покупать оружия у торговца за души - валюта в игре, которую получаешь за прохождение миссий и достижений.
Противники:
Разнообразия противников отличный, в игре есть и зомби, вампиры, скелеты и демоны. Хоть некоторые похожи друг на друга в числе рядовых противников, но все же отличимы друг от друга по дизайну и по поведению. Так что игра не даст заскучать с противниками и даёт простор для игровых ситуаций!
Графика:
Графика в этой игре похожа на Risk Of Rain 2013 и возможно в наше время она выглядит не так классно, но поддерживает в игре сообственный стиль.
Реиграбельность:
В игре очень хорошо реализована реиграбельность - есть достижения, Hardmode и мастерская с картами, так что после прохождения игры всегда будет, чем заняться. Кстати, выполнение большинство достижений не только даёт попробовать челледж и получить само достижение, но и минимум 20 душ, что полезно для закупок у торговца оружием.
Саунтдтрек:
В игре музыка используется под автороством Chris Christodoulou - знакомый нам по музыке риск оф рейнов и давний друг Hoppo Games. У него как всегда получается очень шикарный саундтрек: он в себе сочитает поспу, диско и даже тяжёлый металл по мере продвижения в игре. Благодаря этому можно больше проникнуться атмосферой данной игры.
Выводы:
В конце концов, я бы порекомендовал данный продукт, если вы хотите хорошо провести пару вечеров, затрофеить на все достижения, вы фанат рискача либо просто насладиться ещё в одной хорошей инди-игре...

It's a fun little pixel assassin game. There's a story line, and theme. It's nice but no need to think about it too much.

Truly a diamond in the rough; if you have some spare cash to spend on a game, then you can't go wrong with this one; definitely in my top ten favorite games ever.
Frustratingly difficult game, I kinda gave up at the second Vampire chapter of the game. There isn't much of a story to speak of either. It is pure puzzle-ish Hotline Miami gameplay but there appears to be some randomness baked into the enemy behaviors which ends up making it frustrating to complete a level. You can be doing the same thing over and over again and just get different results.
I am giving it a thumbs up though, because I see the intent and production quality behind the game. Just be warned that it is not a game for everyone. The soundtrack is amazing though, that is kind of worth the money I spent on the game.

I don't know how, I don't know why, but this game is one of the very few games that I repeatedly play through to the end more than some of the stuff in my library and short enough to not induce burnout, with a lot of interesting fanmade content for those not content with the fact that the devs don't plan to make a sequel or spiritual successor

The game is good. Don't spend all your souls on tactical smg + flashbang or you will be softlocked on the 2nd mission of Thousand Year Royals. You cannot put out enough damage to secure a better weapon and thus beat the mission if you do this. I have to completely restart.

Feels more like a puzzle game as you get to more difficult levels, but that's not a bad thing! Honestly a really great 2D stealth experience.

Геймлей очень хорош. Игра предлагает вариативное прохождение уровней - по стелсу и "по шумному".
Если проходить вторым способом, то геймплей напоминает Hotline Miami - вот прямо на его же уровне.
Прострелы, ваншоты любого противника в голову, реально мощное оружие ближнего боя и ваншотный ГГ - это всё сюда.
Разнообразие оружия и врагов не даёт заскучать до самого конца игры.
Атмосфера, графика и музыка просто [b]богические [/b] - 5/5.
Лор тоже очень интересный.

Wall penetration, one-shot headshots on any enemy, truly powerful melee weapons, and a one-shot protagonist — it’s all here.
The variety of weapons and enemies keeps things engaging right up to the very end of the game.
The atmosphere, visuals, and music are simply [b]godlike [/b] — 5/5.

This game has some of the most fluid and rewarding combat of any 2D side-scroller I've played. Add in a satisfying progression system and a neo-noir atmosphere and you've got a masterpiece.

I will add, the deeper into the game you get, the more it also adds in a puzzle-like aspect to gameplay, as you learn to prioritize targets and mentally planning out a route before starting your assault.

you are also like Jason Voorhees, slow on the ground but can teleport through the vents near instantly
and i always thought this should have being more fast paced but that might have taken away the unique feel this gives off few games are more slow and tactical like this the game is hard with achievements i dare not think about how some people get, at times feeling a little over baring and i wish they could have done more with this game i wish their was more lore and weapons and details and that's a good problem to have when the fans just want more, PLEASE GIVE THIS GAME A SEQUEL

Its a pretty good game but i found the longer i played it the more i found it to be tedious and boring. trial and error is a major part of the game but having to repeat the same sections of a level that you beat over and over and over again is boring and annoying and kills my enjoyment of the game. cover mechanics and shooting can also be a bit clunky at times. Its not a bad game by any means but its not great either
Alt tab right after you flip the switch on timur the tinkerer level. that should clear him without crashing the game
This game is so damn good, the Grim Reaper knocked on my door, asked "Yo bro, can I watch?" and then we played together while smoking pot and gobbling on some za.

Straightforward and fun. The controls can lead to some cheap deaths (grabbing gun instead of popping in vent and getting capped) but it's good
I liked DEADBOLT a lot!
The pixel art is well done and it's fun to play as an assassin of sorts. You'll definitely spend time on each level planning out where, how, and when to be at certain spots, but for me that was part of the fun.
It's challenging and at times a bit frustrating when you mess up and have to start a level over, but ultimately I enjoyed my time playing this game.
Влюбился в игру с первого взгляда. Да так давно это было что не поверил в официальную дату выхода. После прохождения прошли годы редких периодов, когда я пытался выбить все достяги, и статистика на этом аккаунте - закрепление достигнутого успеха.
Сильные стороны болта опасно перечислять - задохнётесь, но из основных это:
1. Подача контента. На протяжении всей игры вы будете встречать новых врагов, оружие, даже немного новых механик, и все эти изменения будут влиять на ваш фокус внимания во время прохождения миссии. Стоит признать что приличная часть этого контента плохо раскрыта - часть вы видите буквально на одной миссии и многие комбинации не испробованы. Но изменения в игре заставляют вас подстраиваться, это добавляет веса к действиям разработчика.
2. Динамика. Не сказать что игра сложная, но от вас требуется чёткая последовательность действий, при нарушении которой вы будете быстро отправлены на старт миссии. Это заставляет обращать внимание на окружение прежде чем действовать, но не означает что вам запрещено импровизировать. Доля рандома присутствует и увеличивается вслед за вашей хаотичностью.
3. Атмосфера. Графика простенькая, но держит свой стиль. Из пресного фона, давящего своей унылостью и однотипностью вырываются яркие и сюжетно обоснованные детали. Уникальные декорации стоят не без причины, а отражают изобретательность, отчаянье и помешательство.
Про спецэффекты сказать нечего. Их мало и они лишь стараются не выбиваться из общего стиля.
Однако самая яркая и значительная часть атмосферы это музыка. О-о-о, да, её выразительность выше всяких похвал. Пусть это и обычная электроника с замашками на винил, а структура треков везде почти одинаковая (постоянно дополняемая основная тема с ярким соло под конец), музыка в одиночку задаёт всю атмосферу игре. Спасибо Крису Кристодолу за эти шедевры, а игре за то, что познакомила с ним.
4. Сюжет. Простой и не замысловатый, но вызывающий эмоции. В какой то степени даже правдоподобный и актуальный. Есть некоторые недосказанности и часть деталей подаётся излишне туманно, но для понимания достаточно внимательного чтения.
Нет смысла отрицать, игра не лишена шероховатостей. Среди багов видел и отсутствие регистрации ближних атак, и частичные исчезновения дроби. Мобы, застревающие в стене здания, аномалии света и детекции вас врагами. Бессмысленный рандом на кассеты воспоминаний нежити. Некоторый дисбаланс среди оружия и врагов. А так же некоторые мелкие абузы, или наоборот бесполезные механики (разрабы, если вы это читаете - использования укрытий не работает. Против одного дальника они бесполезны, а против нескольких вы окажетесь в ловушке). Но всё это меркнет по сравнению с хорошо работающей резнёй, стрельбой и стелсом. Хорошо выдержанной атмосферой и вниманием к деталям.
И пусть дэдболт не обрёл большой популярности, у него набралась достаточно преданная фан-база. Этот проект показывает, как инди игры пришли к популярность и за счёт чего. Чёткие амбиции стелс шутера воплощены в симуляторе Джон-Уика (не моё сравнение) работающего из тьмы, и завёрнуты в шикарную атмосферу.
Остаются надежды что Hopoo Games подхватит современную моду выпускать ремастер игры на её десятилетие, и у игры откроется второе дыхание благодаря новым миссиям (которые не сложно добавить, учитывая работы в мастерский), обновлённой рисовке, и быть может даже добавлению механик. Игру эту я очень люблю и советую всем кому нравится агрессивный стелс и продумывание рисков. Пойду снова получать все достижения на хардмоде, а вам желаю обрести то, что уже есть у главного героя игры - уютного жилья, любимой работы, и богатого арсенала огнестрела, с которым можно очистить улицы от нечисти (мертвецами не ограничиваясь).
Amazing soundtrack, addicting gameplay with lots of replayability, and fascinating worldbuilding that you only engage with as you want. 10/10 game no notes.

There is a mission where you can eliminate the enemies entirely using map-wide trap contraptions
There is also a mission where you stay out of the light to avoid sniper's laser across the whole map

Found this game by accident a few years back, and I'm glad that I did. Solid gameplay, banger soundtrack, fun and challenging. I can see why it has a bit of a cult following, even if I don't really consider it a gem myself.

Forgotten in the shadow of the Risk of Rain franchise, DEADBOLT is an incredible game. Expertly crafted gameplay, every level feels so polished, each one a new puzzle you need to conquer. The music is absolutely god tier, Chris Christodoulou absolutely went off for the soundtrack. Everything about this game is awesome, do not sleep on this one.
Довольно прикольный стелс-экшн от создателей немалоизвестной франшизы Risk of Rain. Играешь за некого "Жнеца", которого очень вежливо некие "Свечи" просят порешать вопросики в загробном мире. Сюжет несколько арт-хаусный, но мне такое даже по нраву.
В целом приятная штука, на пару вечеров увлекла, может даже замастерю на максимальный ранг уровни и пощупаю местный хард-мод.

Opponents aren't very intelligent, but they follow their rules.
What I would truly suggest is improving the usefulness of different weapons. Otherwise, there's almost no point in using anything beyond 2–3 weapons throughout the entire game.
