Overall this was a fun game and a great sequel of the original game. It keeps that engaging gameplay loop of the first one while adding some new mechanics, all featuring that same charm, distinct style and fantastic music this series is known for.

Although I did enjoy the game a lot, there are some things that made me feel pretty mixed in regards of which one was better.

My main issue with the game is that the levels are even longer than in the first one, all of them took me over an hour to complete (100% completion). At one point the level just starts to drag for no reason but thankfully there are checkpoints this time around so you can always leave and continue on another time (though they can be pretty spaced out, so easy to lose a lot of progress by accident).

The collectibles are the reason why the levels can go on for so long. The positive part is that they finally added pointers for missed graydiants, trees and crates but at the same time they introduced 3 collectibles that have no pointers. A good chunk of my playtime has been running around the finished level trying to find that last lightbulb or gallery that I missed. And on some levels it could be placed in a spot that you can't access anymore without restarting the level, which is pretty frustating.

That aside, the gameplay loop is tighter with the levels being more linear. Instead of score-progression, you're forced to complete all the main missions then you get the secondaries (which most of the time are simply 100% painting things).

This can be both good and bad but I feel like it depends on the person, on my end I liked more the free flow of the first game + I feel like the 2nd game has less focus on painting buildings which is a bit of a shame. There are not as much stuff to paint since the game focus heavily on the landmarks which this time around they are 2D sections.

Personally I'm not the biggest fan of those, they're okay with some of them having nice platforming challenges but I really prefer the full 3D aspect of the first game (+ most of these interior locations feel very samey visually so they can get repetitive).

Another thing the game expands on is the combat and powerups with a whole new bunch of enemies types alongside some older ones recieving redesigns. I appreciate that the new enemies recieved cinematics of the same style as the first game did to introduce their attacks and weakness in a visual manner, super cool and a great way of doing a indirect tutorial.

Some of the enemies can be a bit of a pain, specially when mixed in the middle of a group but regardless of that I do like that they force you to change your approach and use different strategies depending on the enemy. Also in this game you can upgrade Blob to have a bit more of an edge against them but I can't talk much about it since I ran no upgrades for the achievement (they're honestly not that game changing, only thing I missed is a cheaper charge attack for the last few levels).

But aside of some annoyances, the game was still a blast to play through and I really enjoyed my time with it. If you liked the first game, you'll most likely enjoy the sequel too.

Also this time around you can actually 100% it in one run if you play your cards right. Always funny finishing the last level and unlocking 10 achievements in a row because most of them triggering on the post-credits hahaha

Also forgot to mention but there's multiplayer for the main campaign, but it's just that underwhelming "P2 gets to shoot stuff for P1" type co-op, like Mario Galaxy. Guess this type of co-op was popular back then (unfortunately). There's still Blob Party and features some bite-size co-op / competitive levels which could entertaining.

For those into very silly, cartoony puzzle-platformer games, this game is it. However, there are some caveats that come with this particular port.

As a general review first, dB2 is a wonderfully good game. It's funny (albeit immature at points, if that drives you off), whimsical and has a light yet compelling story. Gameplay is fast, responsive and intuitive once you get the hang of it, while rising to becoming challenging by the third act of the game. Blob and Pinky have a great dynamic as the main characters despite Blob never speaking a word we can understand as the player, while the Colour Underground are as charming as they are amusing. Plus, this game isn't without its slight edge, either. At times the humour dips into slightly morbid while keeping its toony tone. There's references to real world events and implied mature jokes that would easily fly over the heads of younger players. This has always been an aspect of dB as a series, so the consistency is appreciated. Aesthetically and graphically speaking, the game has aged well since its days in 2011. Though it isn't up to modern spec, it's delightful to look at and its stylistic choices are pleasing. I personally find levels like Downtown, Hydro Station and Prisma State College quite attractive to the eye once completed. It isn't flawless (looking directly at you, Soda Falls and early 2010s humour), but if you're into something as silly and story-driven as this slightly childish rebel's tale, I'd say give it a whirl.

Mechanically, however, is where this particular version of the game falls apart. This isn't the fault of Blue Tongue as the original developers, as I've played countless hours of various ports and all 2011 iterations hold up fine. Rather, Blitworks scrapped together a shoddy port and declared it good enough to ship. At the time of writing, 9 years after its release, serious problems have come up such as the launcher settings failing to open. If you're playing on lower end hardware or wishing to use a nonconventional controller (like I did, with a 2015 Steam Controller), you may well be out of luck. This game lags on lower end hardware unless you change the video resolution and Steam Input might not be able to salvage your controller. Glitches are riddled throughout in this version, including an infamous bug in which Blob continually cries after being poisoned, even if he's been cleaned off. Polygons disappear, sounds pile over each other and camera angles break down completely at times. It isn't fair to view the whole game through this lens of brokenness, but Blitworks have truly made an uninspiring port that becomes more and more neglected year after year. They have also failed to respond to emails asking for support for these problems. Blitworks do not and will not care once they have your money.

Overall, this is a good game, shoved into the box of a bad attempt to welcome it onto modern hardware. Whether or not you pick up this particular version or not is up to you, but I say to you, reader: give Blob and the Underground a chance. Find whatever port makes you happiest. Don't condemn this game to the idea of being bad mechanically for the mistakes of one studio.

조작법 때문에 게임 삭제할까 환불할까 고민하시는 분들을 위해 글 올려봅니다.
R Ctrl 혹은 Ctrl 자체가 안 먹는다 (잉크 속에서 흡수하라거나 물 속에서 크기 키우라할때) 아예 언어 설정을 영어로 바꾸셔서 플레이하면 정말 잘 됩니다. 굳이 영어로 아예 언어 변경이 아닌 키보드 설정만 영어로 바꿔도 문제없이 됩니다. 이 문제로 계속 그 부분만 나오면 모든 게 안 먹혔고 (튜토리얼 자체가 그 키를 누르지 않으면 넘어가지 않음) 겨우 해결했네요.. 한국이나 해외 키보드 생각을 못 하고 R Ctrl 키 설정을 넣어버렸고 변경도 안 되는 게임이라 이것만 좀 별로지만, 게임 자체는 정말 재밌고 흔하지 않은 스타일이라 생각합니다.

Wii를 오랜만에 플레이하다가 알게 된 게임이고, 스팀에도 나와있기에 덜컥 구매했는데 역시 패드로 하는 게 편한 게임이지만, 1에 비해 2는 무난하게 할 수 있습니다. 1은 정말 카메라 때문에 하고 싶지 않을 정도입니다.. 특히 색칠을 하며 건물 뿐만 아니라 주변 환경도 서서히 색이 입혀지는 모습이 정말 힐링입니다.

빙빙 돌아가고 마음대로 컨트롤 안 되는 카메라 설정이 괜찮다 싶으시면 1도 추천드리나 둘 중 하나만 꼽자면 저는 2인 것 같습니다. 물론 오리지널을 따진다면 1이 더 재미있긴 한 것 같아요. 2는 조금 무난하게 쉬워진 느낌입니다. 물론 2는 한글 지원을 하지 않아 이 점도 아쉽지만, 스토리상 언어가 크게 중요한 느낌은 아니라서 플레이 중이지만 아직까지는 무난하게 하고 있는 것 같아요.

Note: Really annoying sound bug when you get hit with Ink that makes Blob repeat a disgust sound -forever.- Putting SFX down to 0 or 1 is a solution which SUCKS.
Secondly, a handful crashes occur, happens usually around entering 2D sections.

Review:
I really enjoy this game as a re-exploration of a childhood classic on the Wii and later this sequel on other consoles. If you've played the first or both I do recommend checking em out, however the bugs listed above are still really annoying for me. This port is fine, but it's not good.
The achievements are something I want to keep going for to really explore all the game has to offer and I'll update this review when I am fully done with that. A nice thing but also cheesey thing is with this PC port you can just press P and use your mouse as a "2nd player" (you can shoot and collect things with such ease.)
Mild recommendation mostly for nostalgia. - Also, you probably have heard de Blob 1 & 2's OST everywhere on YouTube, it's fantastic.

Se organiza en unos 10 niveles de aproximadamente de 1h o 1:30h si vas a por todos los coleccionables, y yo me lo voy pasando 1 o 2 niveles cada día, más que eso creo que se haría pesado.

Los "pero"
Hay unos pocos coleccionables que se pueden perder durante la misión, están dentro de unos edificios que tienes que pintar y si lo terminas de pintar sin recogerlo no puedes volver a entrar, y te tocaría empezar de 0 ese nivel en concreto, creo los coleccionables ya recogidos se mantienen.

Hay un logro que te exige no actualizar al personaje, no veo opción de no usar los upgrades que ya he comprado, asi que probablemente si quiero el logro tendré que empezar de 0.

The definitive version of the duology. de Blob 2 has an amazing soundtrack (it's really good), a charming set of characters and animations. This game is meant to be played slowly and for the fun of coloring the world like a painting book.

You can binge-watch the cutscenes online, but getting to see them as you complete the levels gives it a special satisfaction.

My favourite levels are the "Ink fabricator" and the very last one -which has my favourite soundtrack of the game-.

This game is my childhood, and I just love the story, the dialogue, the cutscenes, and the music is amazing. There are some annoyances though that do take a few bits of fun away, such as when charging a few items you can suddenly go flying into the air, and even then you can't even tell where you are going to land. There is also a bug of blob's sounds of getting inked continuing even after you jumped in water to clear off, and it doesn't go away unless you die and lose a life or finish the level/or quit it. Lastly, Soda Falls/Blanc Cola Factory is such a hard level and it's especially easy to fall off the towers and off the map. Despite those negatives, I still experienced that when I was playing it at home on a console, so it still holds that nostalgic feeling regardless.

This is as solid as the first title, and even a little bit more with it's additions and improvements, but...

That's really it for this game.

It plays almost exactly the same as the first game, with only a few additions that are incredibly limited, such as the new charge attack that not only costs a lot of paint to perform, but you can only do so when there's a target nearby and you can't jump out of it to perhaps gain a burst of speed and do some cool stuff, and, also some new powerups, like this one that makes you able to charge with no cost for some time, one that makes you go through ink without getting hurt (but not withstand ink attacks), and one that turns you into a solid metal ball allowing you to crush your enemies by rolling into them (which honestly is just a worse version of the rainbow invincibility powerup as that one does not limit your movement unlike this one, but I guess it has some niche utility on being able to sink underwater).

You can't really traverse the world in any other way that isn't just... Running and jumping, and occasionally homing attacking some sort of enemy or object, and that's about it.

There's no real way to go through things outside of how the game wants you to. Like, if you have to climb a building, you can't wall jump from 2 close by buildings to gain height and then jump to the one you need to be in, no, you HAVE to take these 5 sets of springs the game gives you that shoot you in a bunch of directions and homing attack all of them so that the last one will send you where you need to be.

It's just.... Limiting, and it doesn't allow for much expression and variety for the player, and, as such, gameplay becomes very stale after a while, especially after having played the entirety of the first game prior to this. Which I deliberately did not talk about this problem being in it too due to me thinking that, because it was the first game, it was obviously not going to have too much going for it in that department, and I thought the sequel would fix it, but... No.

Even the story gets stale after a while. It starts interesting with Comrade Black being gone from the island he crashed on at the end of the first game and you later finding this mysterious guy in the city leading a cult that's brainwashing the citizens of the world, but then when he successfully manipulates things to win the election by the third level in the game he just... Goes back to freely being Comrade Black and starts doing the same thing he did in the first game, and, well...

It just becomes the first game. Again.

The same plot, the same characters (with only the addition of Pinky), the same thing.

Because of that I just... Lost motivation to continue playing as I know exactly how the story is going to go and how it's going to end, and I know for a fact the gameplay will stay exactly the same as it is through it's entirety so... Why even bother.

I really didn't want to dislike this game as it has all the charm from the first one and more, the OST is AMAZING, and so much more... But....

I'm just bored, and I couldn't push myself to finish this.

Due to this, it's a weird thing for me to say but... I would only recommend playing this game if you do it over the first one, as it's the same thing but slightly better, and you'll probably get plenty more enjoyment as the novelty of the gameplay will stick with you longer to make you want to finish it.

i am incredibly biased because i played this game as a kid, but it really is fun. pretty easy, but really fun. also you get to splatter fascists by the hundreds under your Immense Girth which is always a plus.
it does get its messages a little bit mixed up sometimes? i dont play it for the nitty gritty story details though so it doesn't really matter. overall the "fascism and pollution bad, art and environmentalism good" message stays throughout, and that's a good baseline thing to say. gotta remember the game was made for children in the late aughts-early 10s as well.

The first De Blob was one of my favorite Wii games, and as made evident by the fact that I mastered that one and have barely sunk 10 hours into this one, my opinions here are mixed.

Final verdict first: this game is good, you'll enjoy it if you like the first game, but you probably won't feel compelled to see it to the end.

What this game does wrong, if anything, is simply being too much too soon. The first game had just the right amount of content, explores every idea it can, and nearly misses the mark of overstaying its welcome. The second game does very little to feel new, and as a result, pushes the series over that mark.

De Blob obviously isn't a game you're playing for the plot or world building or even the design. You enjoy jumping around and painting all the surfaces, it's a pure hit of dopamine and the unneccessarity of the sequel is made most evident by replaying the first game. You can have these games memorized, play them annually, and still get the same kick out of them all those playthroughs later. So why make a second game? Was I really craving more levels? Was the first game just not enough for me?

Okay, here's why this game isn't bad: the levels are shorter, the design is a bit more tight, and there are SOME new mechanics to differentiate it. Still, I don't think that makes this better or worse, it simply replaces some of my De Blob 1 replays at various points in my life. It's fine, nothing more.

It is just as good as the first game, with lots of new additions that make the game even better. What I have so far liked about the game is the 2D segments, removing the time limit at the end of the level, the new challenges, the gallery, a lot of small tweaks to the gameplay, and more! I highly recommend this colourful platformer.

As much as it hurts me, I personally don't recommend de blob 2 over de blob 1. As much as 1 got wrong, I can chalk that up to being the first game of a series, debuting on the Wii no less. 2 makes many changes to the gameplay that feel like a mixed bag, quite a few good things, quite a few bad, and problems that just weren't fixed, as well as steam-specific bugs.

The level progression has changed substantially, where instead of solely having to score enough points like in de blob 1, in 2 now you have to complete missions marked with a red ? icon to move forward. For a first time playthrough, its fine, it gets the job done. For any repeat playthroughs, its a slog, and having to replay any levels for missed collectables makes it aggravating.

The collectables are their own beast. While you still have some staple collectables such as trees, liberated citizens, styles and whatnot, the game introduces 2 new collectables, the Inspiration and Gallery pickups. These suck. One of the more prominent problems in de blob 1 was the points of no return on the final two levels of the game. de blob 2 decided to double down on this, adding many 2D side-scrolling segments that can have these collectables, including landmarks. Since landmarks are a one-and-done mission objective, you cannot reenter any landmark for missed collectables if the landmark has been transformed. The amount of these landmarks with collectables per level is a big reason I'm not recommending this game.

The level design is subjective, I love the new look but prefer the buildings of de blob 1. Draw distance has also been improved, though not by much. Levels are just as vast if not larger than 1, so if you were feeling burnt out by the end of a level in 1, then maybe 2 isnt for you.

Music is just as good, if not better than the 1st game, the only nitpick I have is if the player is clear for more than a couple seconds, the adaptive music will immediately start to roll back to its base instruments.

The camera is, unfortunately, just as bad as its predecessor. I'm not sure if it's like this with it's console releases or just the steam version, but the camera oftentimes can be pretty uncooperative. I find it more annoying here because of the bigger level design, and it doesnt help how the camera will have a mind of its own, either wanting to try to stay behind blob, or trying to get a side view of blob, and it will reorient itself in midair if you're trying to make specific jumps.

Some bugs I've noticed with the steam port is some overlapping textures sometimes dont get along, leaving to weird dark squares, but this seems pretty rare in my copy. An annoying one is if blob is at any point inked, then cleaned, he will continue making coughing noises for the duration of the level. I'd like to say it isn't that annoying, but it *is* a sound effect meant to get the players attention and to take care of the situation, in the steam port's case, a situation that has already been solved.

While I've got more nitpicks, this review sums up my main gripes about the game. If you love this game, more power to you. These are my thoughts on replaying these games for the first time since I was a child. I still think de blob 2 *is* a good game with good ideas, but not a great game. As janky as the first game can be, I do prefer that over this one.

Used to play this game as a kid and it's held up really well. Simple but fun story, easy but satisfying game play and the music... OHHH the music ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slaps, every level has its own unique tracks with multiple levels that get introduced into the song as you paint more things, so it leads up to this very gratifying moment where the final channel gets added into the track as your bouncing around the rooftops of skyscrapers painting everything in sight. Overall just a very chill, fun, feelgood type of game that you'd enjoy after a tiring day.

The first level is extremly borring, repetitive and simple. So be warned. I dont know how they could think this first Level was a good introduction.

But after this the game gets a lot better. The game has a lot of style. Its fun to always look for new paint and color things. The way you play with colour has something strategic sometimes. There are times when I had one color but needed a different one and than had to think about a way how I cloud reach the needed color pot.

Children's game with random adult content slapped into it...

I want to like this game, I really want to. This game's got tons of talented people working on this game who really took the de Blob franchise to a new-ish level. The problem that this game has that completely gives this review a 4/10, is mostly the awful gameplay & controls.

I originally found out about this game due to the first one being a crazy hit on the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo heavily promoting it's sequel. While I never played either one on the Wii, I do remember gifting de Blob 2 to a friend waaaaay back on the Wii for their birthday. I remember when I handed it to them, they were very disappointed in what I got them. I had no idea why, but after having played this on Steam, oh yeah, I feel like a sh-t friend gifting them this game...

de Blob 2 takes place right after the first game. In which Blob has to, once again, save the day from the evil INKT Corporation that wants to rid off all color around the world. This time, he's after New York City! Ooooooo! I'm honestly surprised though by how *similar* and *not different* de Blob 2 is compared to the first game. It feels like I just replayed the first one all over again. Map design is almost identical to the first game as well. Aside from map design, the controls on this game are, once again, as garbage as the first one was. And somehow they managed to make it worse by getting rid of 80% of the useful features that made de Blob 1 worth playing as a casual player, with the extra 20% of those features being put under a paywall. Lifes do not matter in this game at all, depending on where you are within a level, if you lose all your lifes, you don't restart the level, you restart where you would restart if you had a life. Which is typically an autosave 3-4 moments before you died. In the original de Blob game, you'd respawn at the exact moment where you died and not have to redo anything. While the first half of the levels in this game are fine, casual players will find themselves having difficulty finishing the other half. Due to introducing crappy enemy's that make no sense to exist, but rather make it difficult for you as the player to finish the level. Those being Spikey Inkies. EUH!

I also want to stress that if you're a parent considering to purchase this game for their child, I would suggest not to get them this title in particular... As I already mentioned before, the de Blob game franchise has been very beloved with Nintendo, being a hit with the Wii consoles. Yet somehow, Nintendo never noticed the crap-ton of sexual jokes that take the second game is plagued with. The first one being in Prison Zoo (minor spoilers) [spoiler]where Blob has to save his friends who got captured by the INKT Corporation and put on display at a prison zoo. Bif being seen wearing a tootoo, Zip running infinitely on a hamster wheel, the Professor being stuck in a block of ice and Arty covered in black ink from the torso down. While I can't 100% confirm this, people on forum threads mentioned that Arty being covered in black ink was meant to portray sexual content. The way this is expressed in-game certainly looks to be, but I could be wrong there.[/spoiler] Another sexual joke actually being in a cutscene for the final level. Where Comrade Black finds out that (final level spoilers)[spoiler] his plan to drain the entire globe didn't drain out Blob or Pinky in the process, as they are seen flying towards Comrada using their own spaceship to put a stop to his plans.[/spoiler] Due to this, Comrada Black gets angry and starts pressing buttons on his hovering aircraft out of frustration. Accidentally pressing a button that summons a steamy hot jug of coffee that ends up spilling inside the hovercraft and onto himself, which short-circuits the hovercraft. Right after, Comrada's hovercraft starts to unveil a hidden turret below the front of the hovercraft. With one of Comrada's minions glasses fogging up, indicating... well... do I need to explain further? Again, how the actual f- does a children's game get away with something this direct? I've played too many kids games that have slightly leaned on adult jokes as a reference, but this is way too direct and not hidden at all. By the way, this game's ESRB rating is Everyone 10+. Let that sink in for a second...

At the same time, there is clearly a weird vibe with this game's *humor* that doesn't just stem off of freaky Comrada's minions, but also politically! In one of the levels you interact with, a citizen is seen crossing the street holding a briefcase with multiple tanks behind each other attempting to ram this citizen over. This apparently is based off a historical event which I won't go further into. But if you're interested to know more, do your own research. All I will say here is... why... on a kids game? If this game was targeted for older audiences then sure, but a kids targeted game is the worst place to be adding that.

And it just gets worse when you find out how many bugs this game has... well not too many, but their bad enough to be worthy in this review. Let's start off with the obvious coughing and vomiting. In de Blob 2, if you get touched with ink, Blob can be heard coughing and vomiting (well ok not actually vomiting, but the sounds make it out to be). Once you have Blob touch water, the sounds go away... Well not on the Steam version that is. Once you touch ink, the sound NEVER goes away. Until 1. You finish the level. 2. You leave the level. 3. You kill yourself. or 4. You activate *certain* powerups that aren't always in each level. Luckily though, we have something called "the community" that developed a patch so that we never have to hear de Blob having explosive agony!

The next bug and one nobody even knows about shockingly enough. When you get hypnotized by those UFO enemy's, a decal will appear below middle of the screen that shows what button you need to press to avoid being hypnotized. The image decal for this is tiled... ew. (there's no patch for this so uhh, yeah)

And the story doesn't always make sense either. In Prison Zoo (minor spoilers)[spoiler]when Bif is seen locked up wearing a tootoo, he goes ape sh-t embarrassed to be wearing it and having people see him in one. If he's so worked up over people seeing him wear it, WHY DOESN'T HE TAKE IT OFF? He's locked up in a cage all alone, he has hands, he can TAKE IT OFF HIMSELF! But no, instead you have to take it off for him because he's too frustrated to do anything himself to litigate the problem. And it gets worse when you do release him out of his cage. Before the cage doors open, he's seen not wearing it. Absolute garbage character development.[/spoiler]

If you're a casual player who wants to continue the story of de Blob's adventures... I'd not pick this up. Even though the game has an easy mode difficulty, the first half of the levels in this game will be a stich, but once you get to that second half, it's nightmare fuel to even complete them, let alone color everything before completing the level. And if you're a parent looking to buy this game for your child, do not get them this game unless their *mature* enough to not be influenced by the adult jokes present in this game. The first game is perfectly fine, but the second one isn't.

And again, I want to love this game because I can tell there was so much love for the rival. The character design is awesome, the story is great, but everything else is just... ew. I'm sorry... (4/10)

Aside from a minor audio glitch from being damaged that can be fixed with a simple lookup in the Discussion forums, this sequel to a formerly Wii-exclusive game is honestly a quite a fun romp!

This game is a Three-Dimensional Platformer where every level has a series of story missions to clear to get through the level, as well as a bunch of optional missions and collectibles to complete and find after you clear the final main mission of the level, usually before a "Point of No Return." Each level also has it's own challenges and enemies to deal with, as well as unique soundtracks that get more lively the more you bring the color and life back to the level.
Will you strive to complete everything and get the gilded S-Rank in each level?

Honestly? I'd say that you should give this game a try! If not that, then just listen to the soundtrack when possible. I guarantee, the music will be stuck in your head for a long time, it's just that good.

A hidden gem. An absolute masterpiece of a 3D platformer. Wish there were more of these. It's a shame we never got a 3rd.. I love Comrade Black so much!

de Blob 2 was literally the only game I ever had on my Wii my entire childhood.. I always wanted to complete de Blob 2 as a kid, but never did. Until now

de Blob 2 is so much better than de Blob 1 in almost erry possible way. It was a pretty impressive leap visually and mechanically, fixing most of the 1st game's problems and being far more visually impressive

It ran pretty well on Steam Deck OLED. Not as low of wattage as the first. With underclocked RAM and CPU frequencies, it did lag down to the mid 50s while spiking up to 9W, but that's only in the foliage/raydian-filled levels/areas. You can easily get at least 6h out of the game minimum at 60hz

The "Keeping It Real" achievement was the worst part about this game.. I completed the game without ever upgrading anything for the achievement, and now that I completed the game, I have no need of it outside of unlocking the final achievement smh

Port quality is decent..

+ They fixed the camera jitter from the first game! It no longer stutters/jitters when over 60fps!

- There's a looped audio glitch with Blob getting inked that I had to manually tweak codes with
- I noticed English errors. A misspelling of a word, but mostly just lack of commas and proper grammar
- On my Steam Deck OLED, I did have a stretched/squished display issue, but that was bcuz I had set the game in Steam to 1280x800. Setting it to 720p fixed it
- Comrade Black's intro image doesn't show up.. So that was disappointing. Very important bug to patch, but never did all these years. Abandoned on release, aka Cash Grab
- Some text was too big and slipped off screen. The one in the title screen was fixed when I hooked my Deck up to a 4k TV tho
- Sometimes 1 of both of Blob's eyes would disappear in his "celebration animation" when completing challenges

Gameplay..

+ OST is a banger
+ No more challenge timers!
+ Once you get to the end of the level, the timer disappears, allowing me to scavenge collectibles at my own leisure
+ NO SPEED RUN CHALLENGES!!
+ The challenges are much better organized. Rather than being missable content, they appear at the end of the game
+ The compass is now toggled! I had to manually set my back button to Y and have it toggle the compass manually in de Blob 1
+ The Trees, Graydians, and Destructables show up on the compass, too
+ No more paint completion!
+ Camera control is WAY better than the 1st game. Wish there was a 1st person cam tho
+ It has 2 player CoOp, which I never got to use..
+ Navigating the story levels is WAY easier than the first on a DPAD, but still not the best
+ The UI is MUCH better and bigger. It was way too tiny and plain in the 1st game
+The side scroller sections were also a great innovation!

- Camera control still sucks. Automatically moving itself or not letting me look around sometimes
- There are no awards screen like the first game.. So I can't see my completion progress in one screen :c
- The ice physics sucked. The side scrolling platforming sections with ice were very frustrating

-INTRODUCTION-
I have been preaching my friends to play this game for too long, this is because this is my favourite game ever probably, music is stellar. (will talk about the music in depth later.) and game-play has improved in almost all aspects, notable ones
being;

-IMPROVEMENTS-
blob wall jumping vastly improved, as he no longer sticks to walls automatically, (hold A to stick now.)
blob no longer rolls over paint-bots, instead choosing to have to target them, like the enemies, avoiding the hassle of accidentally rolling over the wrong colour for objectives,
I believe that the map designs were improved, but that is subjective.
objectives now do not have a time limit, I found that the challenges in the first game were more annoying because of the objective timers.
1 extra boss too, (out of the 2)
two player campaign mode as-well,
you now can not just leave the level without transforming the major landmark.

-GLITCHES-
there are a few glitches I found in my copy of the game.
de blob now keeps playing the inked sounds even after being cleaned,
small visual glitches; eg, end of prison zoo where you free the blimp, the cut scene for transforming the guard tower, the grass on the middle of it has a missing texture,
and in the senate, i got launched out of the vault, (in the bank transform) and died in the void, I got stuck outside, and had to reload the save,
the controls layout did not open, meaning I could not change my controls.

-MUSIC-
as stated before, the music is out of this world, (looking at you, pan galactic.) at the start of the level, the music is dull, and lifeless, but as you start painting the buildings and landmarks, and getting transform engines, it becomes more up-beat, and lively, it fits perfectly with the liberation of the graydians all most as if they are joining in on the pushing back of the INKT corporation. some notable themes include, paint party, (Gonzo) colour on the dance floor, (Chilled) blob in space, (Pan-galactic) prisman holiday (Fizzy) and the colourist agenda. (Empowered)

-MAIN CHARACTERS-
the main characters are, the Blob him self, Pinky, (Player 2) Biff, Arty, Zip, Prof and the antagonist, comrade black.
I always enjoyed seeing the main characters mess around in the cut scenes, it was reminiscent of the old Lego games,
its just that charm that does it, as-well as their designs being pretty much perfect, they all match their personalities exactly.

-ENEMIES-
I would say the enemies in the second game are a little bit of a down-grade, as personally, I like the more militaristic feel of the INKT corporation, instead of the more hypnotism based INKT, this game removes some of my personal favourites, like the INKT tanks and INKT bikes, but added some more enemies eg; the Shepherds, Blancs INKT mortars, bomb bots and more.

-COLLECTABLES-
instead of doing post* mission objectives like; paint the blimp, or 100% colour, you go around the map finding inspiration and galleries, which inspiration directly levels up de blob and player 2 in your chosen areas, and galleries let you view beta drawings and provide a fun and engaging post game egg hunt, if you will, ( *they are not real post game content, you can do them before you beat the game, though it is heavily unlikely.)

-GRAPHICS-
the graphics are pretty good, for a 2011 game, granted the steam, PS4, Xbox and switch releases have upgraded graphics than the games base, on Wii. overall the graphics still hold up and are of course better than the original.

-CONCLUSION-
I will not be covering the story, because you need to experience the beauty of this game with no spoilers,
overall, HEAVILY underrated, some of the best music in a game, strives to improve upon the glory that the first game was.

IN NO SITUATION would I not sing the prayers of this wonderful, wonderful game, must buy.

The best game of all time, just trust me on that. It is by far my favourite game ever.
I played it for about... idk like a 1500 hours maybe, on the wii and finally got it on PC even though the PC version has a lot of annoying bugs that weren't in the original, however i still think it has a lot better graphics and a lot of details that you couldn't make out on the Wiis 480p graphics.
Everything about it is increadibly satisfiying. Even after constantly playing it for over 10 years, i still havent gotten tired, and I don't see myself gettinng tired of it ever.
I often consider myself to be the No° 1 de Blob fan on the planet which is very sad. If a simple not THAT insane person can be considered the number 1 fan of anything, especially something so great as this, than you can tell its not known about nearly as much as it so desperately needs to be. So please, if you're reading this, join us in spreading de Blob awareness with anyone you can, because this game DESERVES IT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Sorry I just get really passionate about de Blob.

The second part has the same technical problems as I reviewed for part 1 (https://store.steampowered.com/app/532320/de_Blob/): graphics are washed out, no widescreen support, low resolution. The game plays basically the same way as in the first part, except that there are some more abilities like smashing boxes, touching vehicles to start them drive away, paint the people of the towns, etc. The games could be very funny, but look too old on the graphics side. Too bad, you can't setup anything on video/graphics. For me, that's not enough to get thumbs up. I don't need realistic graphics/textures/objects, but at least the resolution and some basic video settings are a must to have a good and fun experience on my own big screen.

このゲームの1はWiiで遊んだ以来、かなり長い間忘れていたのですが久しぶりに遊びたくなり、サマーセールがあっていたので2を購入してみました。1よりかは遊びやすいですが、主人公のブロブがインクに入り、体を水で洗いながしても気持ち悪そうにうめき続けたり、1からプログラムの大部分を持ってきたからかなんなのかは知りませんが、ピンキーというロボットのキャラがいきなり出口プールに急ぐんじゃ！と爺さんの口調で存在しないプールに急げと急かしてきたり、、、など目立つバグがありますが、操作は慣れれば楽しいですし、だれでもクリアできるちょうどいい難易度だと思います。しかし時間がかなりかかるのと作業ゲー感があるので、代り映えの無い画面に耐えられる人のみがプレイした方がいいかもしれません。しかし面白いのは事実です。かなり強い洋ゲーの雰囲気も魅力的なので、遊んでみればいかがでしょうか。ずっと70％近く安くなっているので、お手頃です。

Look, the game itself? It's alright enough. But the reason I keep talking about this game, even though I first played it more than a decade ago, is because the art and music were seemingly developed above everything else. This game is *the best game* at motivating you via audiovisuals, if you're doing good you get more color, more music, more good vibes. If you get hurt or take some damage, the music calms down, the world goes back to being a bit more gray again, and you feel like everything is crashing down on you.

de Blob 2 has the best, most adaptive soundtrack in all of gaming, and couple that with a color bonanza, you get an absolutely unforgettable experience. I will never stop talking about this game.

De Blob 2 is to De Blob as Steamworld Dig 2 is to Steamworld Dig; as Uncharted 2 is to Uncharted; as Street Fighter II is to Street Fighter. Each sequel mentioned takes the starting core concept from the first game and expands upon it with innovation and polish, turning each game of their respective genre's gold standard bearer. Having thoroughly enjoyed de Blob 1, I approached its sequel with high expectations. de Blob 1's 100% completion provided a diverse set of challenges that never felt tedious or unwelcome. The main goal was to paint each level 100%, and then beat each level in under 30 minutes. This resulted in 1 run where you had to make sure to paint every block carefully and scan the area for secrets. And a second run where you had to paint enough to unlock the next section of the level without spending too much time.

But enough gushing over de Blob 1 which is a game I highly recommend, what do I think of de Blob 2?

[h2]Base Gameplay Mechanics:[/h2]
From the outset, de Blob 2 feels overly tutorial-driven, with the initial levels reiterating game mechanics familiar to players of the first installment. Though without the tutorials I wouldn't even have known wall running was still in the game because they made it far less intuitive. Instead of the wall-run automatically activating when you are air-born and touch a wall, you have to press a to initiate a wall run, and then release it and press a again in order to jump off the wall. This may seem like a small nitpick and something you can just get used to, but it also just makes the operation slower. The new wall jumping makes getting around the level as a whole much slower as well. Wall jumping gives you a lot of speed so jumping back and forth between buildings used to be a very fast way to get around.

The last few levels are incredibly difficult, or at least time-consuming and punishing if you don't buy any upgrades (which I was doing for 100%). while I understand I this is an optional challenge, it still showcases the strange difficulty jump that happens at the very tail end of the game. It wasn't a very interesting challenge either: usually involving a lot of waiting and picking off enemies 1 by 1 and then having to retreat to get more ink since it costs 80 ink to charge attack and you can only hold 100. Yes you can also just use a regular slam which costs 5 for some enemies, but you don't want to do that for more than a few enemies since some attacks will become an insta-kill after you lose a bit of ink.

[h2]Level Design & Exploration:[/h2]
Now, I don't think de Blob 2 is all horrible. The cyclical level design alleviates some of the backtracking woes experienced in the first game. Unfortunately, the new collectables (inspirations and galleries) means you'll probably be doing a couple of loops around these levels trying the last remaining collectable after you've already been on it for an hour.

The introduction of 2D segments felt somewhat forced. These sections lacked the any interesting platforming or puzzle challenge, often boiling down to waiting for paint bots to respawn so you can flip a switch or splat an inky. They generally failed to fully utilize the 2D format's potential. These segments over-all just felt like padding, since you can't wall jump to move through the space faster you often are just running at full speed down a hall way and complete the segment in the same time regardless of if you're doing it for the first time or the thousandth.

Speaking of doing something for a thousand times, the Blanc Cola Cannery level is atrocious. You do approximately the same drawn out process 7 times (1 for each color) including lots of the aforementioned terribly slow, 2D segments. The final level also suffers from this same issue.

[h2]Terrain Types:[/h2]
On the positive side, the new terrain types introduced in de Blob 2 added variety to the gameplay. The slippery ice terrains allow Blob to travel at never before seen speeds. Gravity wall and Magnet wall were very similar. However, I suppose because you can't jump on magnet wall due to requiring the metal powerup to use, it is ever so slightly different. I never felt a section that was one couldn't be another, though I preferred gravity wall because it was less restrictive.

[h2]Powerups:[/h2]
The new powerups were also nice to have though not particularly game changing, at times regeneration was needed simply because of a lack of paint bots / ink pools / upgrades. The charge powerup also just felt like a handicap so you could feasibly complete the game without upgrades. Graviton was cool, and often times the only way to take out enemies since you could sneak up on the insta-kill lock-on missile inkies while clear and slorp them up into a black hole. Using the stage hazard shield wasn't much different than just having a button with a timer that turns the hazards off, but it looks cool, and the ability to travel through ink unscathed gives it a few meaningful uses. Finally, the metal cap from mario 64 would've been cooler if the music changed like the metalcap from mario 64. It was pretty annoying to have to use it for magnet wall segments, but I enjoyed sinking to the bottom of the ocean with it.

[h2]Conclusion:[/h2]
In conclusion, de Blob 2, while not devoid of charm and innovation, struggles to surpass its predecessor. While it introduces new elements and mechanics, not all of them enhance the overall gameplay experience. Fans of the series may find moments to enjoy, but those expecting a seamless evolution from de Blob 1 may come away somewhat disappointed.

There's a pretty annoying bug though that makes it so the hurt sound plays on loop for the rest of the level if you get inked once, a solution can be found in this thread (page 2):

Keep fighting with the camera to get a good angle for a jump that I find nightmarish with the rough way Blob jumps around.
No matter the enemy type I've seen so far, target and jump on them does the trick makes it a bit boring.
Music is fun and the painting is kinda pretty but I would tell younger me that they should pass on this one, even if it is on sale.

I have purchased this game on almost every platform it has been released on and I more than recommend it. The humor, the plot, the characters, all of it is so endearing and makes me want to see more every time. While I wouldn't say the game is perfect (there are many audio and video issues like sound being out of sync with cutscenes or things flickering), what the game presents and how it does more than makes up for it.

If I were to give the game an unbiased number rating, I'd give it an 7/10 but it's a 10/10 in my heart.

It's honestly criminal how underappreciated this gem of a game is.

It's been one of my favourites since the Xbox 360 days, and to this day it still manages to provide me with so much joy. There's (IMO) not a game around that has this relaxing of a vibe to it while also bringing you on an incredible adventure. The music is addicting as hell and the gameplay, while relatively simple, is incredibly smooth to control and REALLY satisfying when completing certain objectives or actions. There's so many fun moments and clever game mechanics to find here and it's around 20 hours to beat while collecting everything, which, for around 5 bucks on sale, is absolutely worth your time.

I'm still praying this series gets a sequel or remaster somewhere in the future, but other then that this game really has a special place in my heart .

[b]TLDR: Basic platformer gameplay, REALLY cool 2000s visuals and especially really cool dynamic funk soundtrack, cheap price. Essentially a better version of the first game, if you ever played and liked that already.[/b]

[b]de Blob 2[/b] is a 2011 platformer, originally on Wii/XB360/PS3, obviously a sequel to the first de Blob. A platformer, semi-collectathon game centered on coloring the world around you with a selection of different colors.

The gameplay is essentially the same as the first game, with minor adjustments.
You walk, you jump, you lock onto enemies and objects to "homing attack" them, you imbue your character with different colors from different sources, so you can use that color to paint everything you touch and advance through a stage.

You need paint points to both paint things you touch (1 point per building/object), as well as to defeat enemies (every enemy type has a certain "cost" for a stomp to be effective against them, from as low as 1 paint point to as high as 50).

There's plenty of powerups in this case that give you additional properties, and you have a new CHARGE move that lets you attack in front of you instead of stomping on things.
The charge also... costs 80 paint points by default, and is extremely impractical to use as a result outside of the specific enemy types that require that move to be defeated. But I'll get to that.

This game expands on the collectathon aspects of the first game, in the form of INSPIRATION POINTS (big lightbulb things), that you earn from both completing side missions and by collecting them out in the open. You can use those points to UPGRADE your character in several ways; from upping your maximum lives, armor and paint points to, thankfully, reducing the cost of the charge move to a more usable value.
You start with 100 maximum paint points, but can up it all the way to 200. And the charge move's cost can be reduced all the way down to 20 points. MUCH more manageable once you're fully upgraded, and it rewards you for going out of your way to explore and do extra challenges on every stage.

There's also "gallery cards" to find that unlock a page of the concept art gallery every 10 you get. No real gameplay need to find those unless you want to 100% the game like I did.

Overall, the game has a TON of QOL changes from the first one. Most completion elements are streamlined; all a stage asks you to do is:
-Get enough total points for an S rank (you'll get it super easy as long as you go out of your way to do the side missions)
-Paint all the trees/break all breakable items/rescue all civilians (you'll do it if you're going for an S rank)

That's it, that's all you need for a stage to consider itself "fully completed". And your built-in "radar" feature, once you've completed a stage, shows you the precise direction of the next sidequest, or missing thing for you to paint.
The only things that aren't shown on the radar are lone inspiration points, style pickups, and gallery cards. Those are not necessary for rankings, but do give you things for finding them as mentioned earlier. Slightly more aggravating to find without a radar, though.

Additionally, once you complete a stage... guess what annoying aspect of the first game gets removed?
[i]The time limit![/i]
The game actually removes the time limit, and lets you explore the stage at your leisure to find everything you're missing, without having to worry about running out of time and needing to exit and replay the whole stage just for another chance to find it.

Stages also autosave at given points as you advance, so you don't NEED to do them in one sitting like in the first game.

...Only issue is, they didn't make a FULL step towards "proper" collectathon format.
If you finish/exit a stage, that's it. If you missed anything, you need to replay the stage from the start. You can't just revisit the area in its completed state to look for the missing collectibles. So, on stages that can already be 30+ minutes long just to complete, if you don't want to have to do them again, you HAVE to stick around and look for everything you're missing. And without a radar, going for inspiration points and gallery cards can be a genuine pain in the rear.

Same thing if you play another stage. If you had a checkpoint saved in one stage, in its completed state, and you play any other stage, it clears that other stage's checkpoint data to replace it with the one you're playing now.

It's SO CLOSE to being a full-on explorative collectathon, but they still keep that ONE arcade-y element from the first game that I think ends up holding it back a bit.

Keep in mind, none of this will affect a casual playthrough. But if you want to 100% the game like I did, it just makes it more aggravating than it needs to, after it's SO close to fixing every issue with the first game.

Oh yeah, the music! That's kept from the first game. All the songs are new, but it still keeps the same style.
Dynamic funky soundtrack that starts chill but builds up the rest of the instruments and layers as you advance through a stage, culminating in sick full band songs with trumpets and strings and ridiculously good basslines.
Also painting things still dynamically adds additional instruments for a short time, depending on the color. Extra saxophone, trumpets, record scratches, and other things playing in time with the music every time you paint something.

One extra thing the game has, almost forgot.
There's a CO-OP mode that the first game didn't have.
Though, uh... unfortunately that co-op mode suffers from the Wii curse of "little brother multiplayer", as all the second player really does is "control" your helper robot and shoot things onscreen with the mouse. No additional blob to platform around as and help you paint things. No splitscreen, outside of the versus mode.
GENUINE missed opportunity, honestly.

Anyway I'm done rambling now, despite having some mildly annoying design quirks, it's still overall a much better version of the first game. Really cheap too, so it's definitely worth the asking price (esp. on sale) for how much it has to offer.

The only thing I can think of that I feel the first game does better is having slightly catchier music, but you can unlock the first game's music here to play over the stages anyway. So if you wanna hear Defiant again, you can just S rank stages until you get it and then go nuts.

99% of people who played de BLob 1 and 2 will tell you that de Blob 2 is the better game. im part of the 1% that thinks otherwise. de Blob 2 is a good game, and it has a lot going for it. and i definitely enjoyed my time with it. but i feel it misses what made the first game so enjoyable

pros over de Blob 1:
- improved graphics
- better controls
- more varied locations
- more interesting missions

cons:
- more linear mission structures
- more talking
- longer missions that get boring
- painting a building paints it in multiple colors, which feels less satisfying

i do recommend this game, however, and i think most people will ignore the cons and enjoy the game more than the original. i hope you play both
