I got this when I needed a game that was more chill and cozy than my usual turn-based RPG fare, and it totally scratched that itch. It's pretty easy on normal, I haven't really tried the missions on hard difficulty yet. It's not a deep settlement building, but there's enough going on to keep you engage without it being a head-scratcher, and the theme is cute. Each mission is original enough to keep things fresh too. Story mode doesn't seem that long—I'm nearing the end—but it was fun, and I'll want to retry it on higher difficulties. It was worth the money I put on it. Also, got it to work on Linux Mint after trying a couple of different versions of Proton, so that's a plus.

在玩的時候有點漫無目的和無聊。有些建築物有中心建築物的效果，但是一開始給的地塊少得可憐根本沒多少地方放，就算想好好蓋建築後期也因為地形畸形的關係不太好喬。

接著就是裡面的一些小遊戲過於重複又頻繁，才剛開始玩沒多久就一直在快轉蒐集光芒開地，沒辦法派村民出去探路等等的，同時家裡又蓋得亂七八糟滿阿雜的。

I played the demo on "Next Fest" and it was the first and (so far) only game I've bought.

It plays great on handhelds with minimal resources profile so it's great for battery and long sessions.
The concept of having mini games within tiles really surprised me as it did the menu, which you go by unlocking it kind of the same way you do in the game, tile by tile.

It's cozy, easy to pick up and learn, tons of content. Don't stop at the tutorial or first missions, as you go by, you start to get random events in the world as well as NPCs who expand the game's posibilities and variation further.

I hope the game keeps getting more content and challenges.

It's nice. There's something heartwarming about bringing light to the world, one tile at a time, with the help of your magical flame friend. But this warmth can only exist in contrast to deep, almost impenetrable darkness; in other words, Dawnfolk is a cozy game, but it also has some dark, perhaps even scary elements.

But let's talk about the genre first. It looks like a city builder, and I actually think it is, but you'll notice that some players call it more of a puzzle game - or complain about lack of information, something that is [i]apparently[/i] required in city builders. But here?

This is a game that expects you to make decisions with incomplete info, and find out things by experimentation - almost on accident. So if you simply must minmax everything based on the Community-Approved Wiki Strat, [strike]consider rethinking your life[/strike] this game will frustrate you. You're supposed to go into the dark and illuminate your own path from within. Even navigating the game's menus and unlocking new stuff follows this principle, so if that's not your jam, this is probably not a game for you.

It is a solodev game. Not of the "oh my this game is barely holding together but it was just one guy!" kind, but of the "all elements of the game follow the strict creative vision of its creator". So there are elements that might seem strange at first - you are supposed to play little minigames to maximise resource harvest, for example. But no, it fits! The minigames are short enough as to not be annoying, and give just enough of a boost that you feel motivated to do well in them. I'm actually a little impressed; but if that doesn't sound appealing, there is a building that "plays them" for you.

There's a lot of little cool things in here, too. When you hover over an area or a building, you can "hear" it: the crashing waves over the ocean, the laughter and chatter of people in a tavern. And the dark mist also has a sound: I can only describe it as the sound of [b]void[/b]. This deep, uncaring hum which surely hides everything you were never meant to know. Eh, something about it just captivated me.

And of course you have this ethical flavour which recently seems to be popular in games: Cute and warm, yet realistic and capable of loss, corruption and death. I'm glad to see that instead of descending into South Park-style cynicism and nihilism, we seem to have chosen a far more bright and hopeful way of dealing with the utter existential nightmare that is our current Technofascist world. Keeps the little Lueur in our hearts alive and smiling, no matter how dark it is outside.

Oh yeah. Lueur - the little flame - is your main point of contact with the world, and he'll be talking to you constantly. I love him dearly and he really added lots of warmth to the game for me, but if the idea of a little sentient spark of hope talking to you is not appealing, you'll probably hate this. I don't get it, but there are many other things I don't get, so this one is up to you to decide.

Still: Only 15% of players beat the game. That's a pretty low number considering the game's not that long. Also, the game feels tuned to be played on Hard rather than Normal. If you want a chill experience without having to worry about losing, Normal is fine. Hard is not exactly hard, but you probably won't be able to win unless you put some thought into what you're doing.

Good stuff. I'd argue that the 15% completion rate clashes with the Overwhelmingly Positive reviews, but I liked it quite a bit; it might not be what you expect, though. There's a demo - maybe walk into the dark and see yourself?

Finished the game on normal and it's a pretty fun game! Simple and elegant. I can see this being ported over for mobile but that'll be up to the dev. I can see the love and effort put into it! 10/10.

I would like to have more story though. Maybe a continuation of Nuit's story in another planet?

J'ai acheté le jeu il y a genre un an mais je le réinstalle et le relance de temps en temps à ma pause déjeuner ou le soir sur un écran secondaire, c'est chill, c'est facile : c'est agréable comme une paire de pantoufle; c'est un petit plaid douillet dans lequel on s'enroule après une grosse journée et qu'on veut pas se prendre la tête.

С одной стороны игра показывает новые интересные механики, с другой стороны она максимально душная. Создана она на том что максимально тебя за**ать.

Когда у тебя будет дефицит ресурсов обязательно случится:
- 3 тьмы, которые сожрут все твои клетки
- волки обязательно сожрут весь твой скот
- вулканы сожгут твое производство
- пролетающий дракон уничтожит шатры
- пираты взбунтуются и перестанут давать ресурсы
- ведьма отравит людей
- монолит заставит их погибать
- и тд ( ещё десятки таких ситуаций )

Из-за этого всего не складывается ощущение что ты наслаждаешься игрой. Прошёл 1 раз и досвиданья.

I'd describe this as a bite-sized 4X-like. At least, it gives me the same feeling as Civ, minus wars and units.

Each map has you figuring out how to best use the resources available on each tile to balance your economy, while crises and special events try their best to throw a wrench into the works.

It's loaded with plenty of little surprises, and makes for a delightful chill-out game, while still being stimulating enough to make you think.

A very nice little game made by a solo developer. Is perfect for the steam deck or other handhelds, feels polished. It is more of a puzzle game than a real “city-builder.” At first it may seem a bit shallow, but give it a chance and depth emerges. There are mini-games and also little narrative decisions to make. I find it relaxing to play after a hard day at work.

Overall the difficulty here is quite low, especially if you are used to resource management. I played all the story missions on hard and while I did restart one or twice I never lost. Restarts were because a lot of the time the game hides important information from you, that makes it obvious a bit into the map what you should have done on those early turns to get a solid start.

I don't like games that hides information and were the focus is that you are supposed to fail once to figure out how to solve something. That's not a puzzle that's just hindsight, anyone can do that. While we are talking about difficultly there is a higher level called impossible and it takes away the ability to pause. To me that's a game breaker and doesn't at all seem to make sense in the context of a cozy, take your time and make the right decisions kind of game. If you want to clear impossible you need to memorize all the right moves on that map and then execute them on a timer.

As you see from my review I have a lot of negative to say but I still enjoyed my time in the game, playing through the main story and figuring out which things to build in which order. For me I feel done with the game 8 hours in after clearing the story, you decide if you think this is for you or not.

[b]丰富性[/b] ：我看见至少有五个模式，每个模式下六张地图左右，似乎还有每日挑战。我不太理解说深度不够的负面评价，我认为这种展开对大多数玩家来说已经足够了，我希望作者不要因为这些声音不开心。
[b]萌点[/b] ：能感觉得到作者很友善，因为如果选择宰杀牛羊不会有小游戏。光芒小向导超可爱的，我根本没有预料到后面会围绕着它有小故事，我以为这只是一个新手教学NPC，但我很开心能有更多关于它的故事，它很可爱！我推荐给另一个朋友，她一直在学它说话的声音hhh而且因为游戏氛围可爱而放松，她仅进入游戏八分钟就决定购买了。
[b]建议[/b] ：可能是我还没有玩到，不过我有点想要更多随机事件？类似海盗敌袭、沙漠上神迹出现、人民更加虔诚/更繁荣地在市场交易/暴乱之类。大部分建筑只能升级一次有点可惜，这方面还可以深化，也可以推出更多建筑，丰富玩法多样性。

希望作者保持更新！这是一个非常令人惬意也很有潜力的游戏，并且现在这阶段已经足够有趣和温暖，我很高兴能遇见这样一款游戏。

Great little game. My game time dosen't populate correctly due to doing most of the playthrough on two different cross-country airplane flights, but this is perfect on the Steam Deck for such an occasion. Its charming, runs great on the Deck, and is perfect when you want to think but not too hard. Its not perfect, I wish the story was a little longer and it took me a few levels to completely figure out some of the mechanics, but for the price I 100% can't complaign and the developer is great at addressing feedback per the Community Hub.

TLDR - Pick this up before you take a flight and you, and your deck, will thank you!

This is such a wonderfull little game from a nice and communicative single developer.

The graphics are cute, the music is relaxing and the game is challenging even on the beginners level.

Some 14 hours into the game I am near the end of the story mode, but there are still most of the curious expeditions and riddles untouched. Also there seem to be daily new expeditions and riddles and there is the endless game. So I guess I have many more hours of enjoyable game play ahead of me. And I haven't even touched the harder difficulty.

I am going to update this at a later time BUT ---> I like the game overall; it's pretty fun; the graphics are indie/pixel and has a cute, whimsical vibe. I was caught off by the controls. Everything can be operated with just a left hand on a keyboard which felt awkward at first but appreciated after a while (very vim). The file/save system is incredibly light and quick. The creator is obviously a very talented guy. Thank you for such a nice game at such a reasonable price; I look forward to see what you create next.

I like it but it's love-hate. Here are the reasons you might hate it, neutrals, and positives.

+ cute / charming in visuals and music
+ good if you enjoy screwing around and coming across ah-ha moments of understanding. But bad if you are annoyed by excessive trial&error being necessary to gain knowledge.

~ Normal mode is way easy. Hard is hard enough you will lose sometimes and have to pay attention. Impossible frankly is a pain.
~ minimal / unskilled storytelling
~ Good amount of content, but much feels samey. Variation is decent enough though.
~ Calling it a city builder may be a stretch. It's at least adjacent to what City Builder usually means.
~ Story levels seem to tend to have a pre-determined path to success which pretty much removes roguelike elements if you were expecting much significance to them. Instead it's more of a slightly changing puzzle game.

- Baffling lack of info for a strategy game. This annoys me most. You're left guessing what buildings need what for bonuses, what buildings can turn into, their requirements, and more. The glossary not only is overly wordy and gives little info, you can't even read it without spending meta-progression currency. Wtf?
- Minimalist UI makes much of the game annoying to figure out.
- Because above problems, often a loss feels thanks to the game hiding fundamental information you haven't come across or memorized yet.

It's not bad. I hope they change the UI to show better info, or at least give a free journal to read up on stuff.

Before writing this review, I’ve already played for 8.6 hours and unlocked 47 achievements. To be honest, the game is decent, but after playing through it, I feel many aspects are not well-designed. At a price of 58 RMB, it doesn’t feel like a great value for a game of this type, which is why I have quite a few suggestions to share.

Here are my recommendations regarding some of the buildings:

1.Colossus: The Colossus is an extremely important structure in the game, upgraded from the Lighthouse. It plays a crucial role in the mid-to-late stages (costing 30% of the tile-illumination price to randomly illuminate one tile adjacent to an already lit tile). Currently, using this building can be frustrating—when it illuminates a tile, the camera always shifts to that location. This means if I want to use the Colossus repeatedly, I have to drag the camera back to its position each time after a random tile is lit, which is especially annoying in Endless Mode. My suggestion is to make the Colossus notshift the camera view when used. Instead, show an arrow indicating the general direction of the newly lit tile, along with the type of tile illuminated.

2.Workshop: Frankly, I don’t find this building very useful; upgrading to a Workshop feels more like a debuff. When it auto-plays minigames, it doesn’t grant the extra rewards you’d normally get by playing manually. Worse still, if you upgrade the Workshop before the Smelter, the Smelter’s upgrades become completely pointless. My suggestion is that after upgrading the Workshop, auto-played minigames should automatically receive those extra rewards. If both the Workshop and Smelter are upgraded, the rewards should double (since that’s how it works in the base game anyway). Additionally, there should be a toggle switch so that if a player decides they want to play minigames manually after upgrading the Workshop, they can disable the auto-skip feature.

3.Barracks: Reducing combat losses via the Barracks is genuinely helpful, but the Patrol effect is problematic. Its cooldown is long, and it randomly selects one hostile target to eliminate. Sometimes, the random elimination doesn’t remove the enemy unit you actually want gone, wasting precious opportunities (for example, wanting to destroy a flying boulder but ending up eliminating a pack of wolves instead). I propose changing Patrol into an active skill that players can trigger manually, entering cooldown afterward. This way, players can use Patrol strategically during critical moments to take out enemies that would otherwise cost a lot of resources to defeat. Likewise, I’d like to see a toggle switch added to the Barracks so players can freely choose whether to enable automatic Patrol.

4.Homestead: As the most vital structure, this goes without saying. However, I’d love to see additional upgrades and toggles to improve the Endless Mode experience (since late-game technology isn’t lacking anyway). For instance, features like auto-hunting and gathering, automatically killing wolves roaming in the woods, and reducing labor costs for hunting and gathering.

Je laisse mon avis après avoir fini l'histoire principale (environ 6h de jeu en mode normal).
Fort heureusement, finir l'histoire principale n'est pas la fin, les expéditions, les différents niveaux de difficultés, les différents succès steam font que ce jeu donne envie de continuer à jouer.

I absolutely adore this game! The sound design is super cute, the art style is cute, everything about this game is cute! The game mechanics are pretty cool and it helps challenge you by making you strategically place buildings and some levels even throw those strategies on end with different challenges!

Played the demo and then I just had to buy the game. Well worth 7 and a half dollars

Yeah, pretty good. Strategy game, interact with tiles and sort of explore while building things and terraforming tiles in a synergistic manner. Periodically the antagonistic Darkness begins to cover or even destroy tiles and must be pushed back. Chill game. Laid back. Homeboy put his weird face on the front of it so you know he's givin'er the whole armbone as it were.

Gostei do jogo a dinâmica dele é tranquila depois que voce pega o jeito das construçoes como funcionam, os booster de cada uma..
O jogo ao menos o pouco que joguei é todo focado em conseguir luz para tirar os tornados/mal que aparecem..
Até o momento recomendo, espero que apareçam novas mecanicas
