因为价格便宜，买来玩玩挺不错的，就是那个音乐太难崩了，大部分时间像是塞着P眼在崩闷屁，有一种来自牙买加大喇叭的破音hardcore节奏的美感，不行你让 AI 做几首曲子也行啊。

It takes something special to standout in the SHUMP genre. While this isn't it, it's not awful either. It just is. The upgrade system seems a little worthless at times, at others almost distracting. The system and weapons unlocks probably have some meaning behind, but I'm just not interested.

And that's the problem there's nothing interesting about this game, even the levels are kind of bland. You just hold down the fire bottom and everything seems to die. But it isn't awful. And its one of those games that I'll probably return to on the Steam Deck, as it runs really well without eating the battery up.

I wouldn't have paid the £13 it's asking for though.

Framerate holds up well on the Steam Deck on around 7 watts.

One of the better / more complex games of its genre

Pre game start you can your ship and customize your ship with modules which you have to unlock
Thats some kind of replayability, but also means alot of grind (and if you look at those achievments)
And a lot of menu "grinding" to look at all those modules and to decide which combination could be awesome. There are a looooooooot of modules

In game you can choose which weapon type to upgrade.
That leads to A you can use what you like or B you have to choose what fits the level

Overall you can have some fun especialy with local coop for a fair price

I've been looking for this kind of game to play with friends for a while, and it really hits that classic, old-school fun. Unfortunately, there's a major desync issue in multiplayer that completely breaks the experience, making it unplayable. This problem started after one of the recent updates, and until it's fixed, I can't recommend the game — even though it has great potential and would otherwise be a blast to play.

So much fun.
Extremely precise controls, great upgrade system, lots of ship customization and build variety.
Music is quite entertaining as well and all sounds are snappy and satisfying. It's fantastic to mow down hordes upon hordes of ant robot things very quickly. Enemies move in interesting paths sometimes making little whirlwinds or snakey conga-lines of bots.
It ends up becoming extremely addictive, with both its campaign and survival modes, with unique maps and some neat gimmicks and bosses that make them all special. Food survival is particularly engaging.

Due to all of that I can definitely excuse the super goofy character art and lack of warnings on certain things such as enemies coming from offscreen on either top, bottom or left. Nowhere is sacred, nowhere is safe.

What's good? Quite a bit!

* Outstanding balance of bullet hell and strategy / light RPG
* Near 10/10 graphics (We'll say a solid 9.25)
* Multpile paths
* You can outfit your ship to reflect your play style as well to better deal with the next stage in your progression
* Built-in save game feature
* Your ship can belome a true beast that unleashes unrelenting fury!
* Stages, backgrounds, set-pieces, and bosses all look great
* Steam Deck / Linux play is flawless

What would I improve?

Nothing major, but for me:

* Pre-defined characters (pilots) are visually pretty basic
* There's a lot of in-stage management in selecting and upgrading your ship's abilities unless you use one of your ships slots for the A.I. (Which then the A.I. does this for you)
* Sound track is low-key techno - Could use a more hard rock / driving musical palette (OFC this is subjective)

This game is the most addictive shooter I've played in a very long time. It's intuitive to play, the powerup system is tried and true making it easy to understand. The weapons look great as you power them up. I don't have any difficulty distinguishing enemy bullets. I happily restart levels over and over which is so awesome because it's been such a long time since a game made me want to do that! You gradually unlock items which in some games can be boring or confusing, but the dev managed to avoid these pitfalls somehow.
I'm playing on Casual/Easy and having a great time. I'm not playing for score.

This game draws me in like the shoot em ups I played when I was a teen. The style gives me the old arcade vibes and it's a solid game with lots of variety in upgrades. Game has challenge and is fun. Lots of replayability. I'm able to get into the good old arcade zone out I do to completely focus on the game and only certain shoot em ups can do that for me. Great game and best I've played in years for this genre.

this is one of the best shooters ive ever played along with being on of the most innovative shooters ever made.
please if you like shooters/shmups you will not be disappointed in the slightest. This is a full online multiplayer game allowing up to eight people to play at the same time or four player couch co-op to annihilate the invading alien scum trying to wipe out the earth. You have around 700 different parts you can unlock and choose from. Along with eight different ships to choose from that all play very distinctly. There is no DLC BS or loot systems its just super bodacious fun. Buy it enjoy it Make love to it. it will not let you down.

This is my definitive, go-to shmup on Steam. I enjoy doing solo runs as well as dropping into some coop sessions with friends for a good time all around. The campaign has branching paths to various difficulty tiers with welcomed gameplay variation peppered in, and some hype music. Huge variation of modules let you specialize loadout to maximize or balance a ship's performance.

The single most enjoyable aspect of the game is using the green power-ups to enhance weapon systems during your run. Love the risk/reward of banking these to power up stronger systems.

AND the game is still being actively updated/patched after so many years. Good on the devs, thank you for this gem.

In conclusion, I hate minefield.

This is really really good game. I'm not exactly a fan of the genre, but the very challenging gameplay combined with the nearly 700 attachments sucked me in. There are SO many builds you can do, and each ends up having its own distinct playstyle. It's a lot of fun figuring out how to try and combine/earn attachments. Also its a great feeling when something that was really hard before becomes easy because of a build you came up with. I think this game would actually be very popular if it was in a viral video or something, just needs exposure.(Dev, if u do this, don't forget about me ;) ) Playing with friends online or in person is easy, smooth and a lot of fun.

It's definitely true to the Gradius theme. So if you want a retro feeling game that has some modern perks, this is a solid choice.

I have attempted to play online multiplayer to no avail. I can't tell if it's just a lack of people wanting to play with others, matchmaking looking for open rooms rather than just creating its own, or what. I have no idea what it's like to try to arrange a game with friends. I was really hoping to test that portion too.

The upgrade system could use work. Equipping them isn't an issue. It's mostly in the unlock process, particularly with merges. This would have been much better as a more straight up talent tree. The fact you have to hit specific stages to get unlocks is honestly the biggest hassle. Although at least unlocks are saved regardless of whether you save your campaign progress.

However, the upgrade system still gives very clear and distinct effects or power increases on top of the normal gameplay. So to that end, no complaints. Especially since you'll need them for harder levels.

The voice work is limited. The introductory cutscene is fine, but not exactly standing out either. The "Game Over" voice line is kind of aggravating since it'll play after EVERY game over, regardless of the mode you're in. Really redundant for survival mode.

The text is very cheesy. Enough that I ended up skipping most of it.

Pilots could be a little more distinct for Gameplay, like switching around when something can be upgraded. But otherwise they are what I expected.

Overall, a solid game, particularly if you love the genre. It could definitely use some polishing, but that's mostly gonna be in QOL improvements of the current customization systems rather than the gameplay itself.

I was a big fan of Gradius on the NES, and this game is an excellent evolution of that style. You can certainly sit down and run through some sessions out of the box. As you continue, you'll notice the depth of game play available as you start to unlock some of the hundreds of attachments you can use to equip your ship with different weapons and powers. You can really tailor the game to suit your taste of play style and difficulty. I like the fact I can do a few runs at the end of my day, unlock a couple attachments and not be in bed at 3 AM like I would if I got sucked into Skyrim. Finally, the game was released over 5 years ago and they are still coming out with meaningful updates.

This is a shooter in the oldschool arcade vein, most similar to the Gradius/Darius types wherein you gain power ups and bank them till you get to the upgrade you want then spend them, but they also throw in a HUGE metagame with attachements. You can unlock new weapons and gear through various means, and drastically change your gameplay. In one configuration, I'm a carrier - big, slow, I dont have guns but I have turrets and a large number of very strong drones that fight for me. In another configuration I slapped on all sorts of beam boosters so I went from a standard forward laser beam to a 5 pronged laser array that also has a slow and DoT effect.

There are plenty of maps/missions, some arcade options for endless mode, and they did release a content patch just a little while ago, so its still being worked on and tweaked. There are also some bonus and hidden levels where they change things up, a few are vertical scrolling, a few are starfox 3D styles, and before I forget, they even have capital ships that you can pilot with your smaller ship inside. ALSO also, it has co-op multiplayer. I haven't tried it myself, but you can play with many other people if you wanted.

If you like side scroll arcade shooter types, your Gradius's, your R-types, your various EDM fueled bullet hells, you will definitely enjoy this game.

Growing up with a lot of these games, I despise the thought of not being able to simply pick up weapon upgrades and see the screen light up with awesome effects and abilities. Because you're basically gathering energy to store until you can improve your systems (Right click), which modifies the effects of your ship. When you lose, you get to connect more modules to your ship, which empowers you even more for the next run with varied effects, but I simply wanted to hop in and play, have some simple, straight-forward fun that wasn't too tedious. It didn't offer that kind of experience. It felt like I was always being pressured to hold onto my energy for the next upgrades.

Basically you are grinding to stockpile energy. Don't get hit, don't die or it's all gone that being your stored up energy. You can create some really cool builds, but only after investing a lot of time to unlock them all. Having a stockpile of over 50 ultimates to melt every single boss was a tad bit boring, since they didn't really stand a chance and you get refills for it so often.

Very fun side scrolling SHMUP game. Dedicated devs that should be recognised for having stuck with this game for so long despite the tiny playerbase.

Roughly 7 different ships, each ship has the same base weapons but all have unique ULTIMATE abilities.
As you progress, you unlock new weapons and ship modules that provide unique effects/permutations/changes to your base weapons, a lot of them even change the weapon entirely into something new. This system allows for some very creative and unique builds, and with the sheer amount of weapons etc, you can have endless fun experimenting with different builds

Can be extremely challenging or a nice chill game to play while watching a movie or listening to a podcast depending on what campaign you choose. There are also survival modes.

Despite being a simple game it is endlessly replay-able as a coop (up to 8 players!) Shoot em up. Definitely worth a buy.

Easily one of the best SHMUPS I've played. The story is alright, but it's easy to ignore and just focus on blowing up enemy ships.

The combat is fast and frantic. The highlight is definitely that there are so many upgrades that you'll unlock. It isn't impossible to find a weapon combo that makes you feel like a true bad-ass. And yet, you'll unlock so many things that you're certainly going to jump around with so many different weapon selections that it's mind boggling.

There's also a wave based mode you can play that's pretty decent. It can also be used to unlock stuff, which is great when you may not have time to go through a full campaign run. That being said I'd say you can technically complete the game within an hour. But you'll probably play it for longer. Because it's awesome.

As I type this its on sale for 6$. Cannot beat that dollar per hour of entertainment. Even if you didnt experience Gradius youll find some fun in this arcade side scroller. You get to pick your pilot and customize their ship (each with different stats) and TONS and TONS of weapon mods to unlock as you play for further customization and domination. Some mods synergize with others creating incredibly powerful weapons that just add to the fun and your 'want to' grind. Game has multiple routes to take on the map...some for beginners and some harder difficulties thatll have you contemplating lifes decisions. Little bit for everyone. Game is also online, so bring your friends or team up with randoms. Although i hate strangers, but the options there!

It's like a more gray Darius mixed with the Gradius powerup system and a bit of R-type Final with its attachment system. I feel like a juggernaut when it gives me the super ship that my ship fits into. Pretty cool bursts of power that makes you feel strong.

The soundtrack gets more and more intense the further you get in. Responsive super fast bullet hell towards the end. I can get so fast no bullet can catch me until it does.
The attachment system and darius style alternate level routes gives it replayability.

Awesome game.

Edit: Wow it's impressive to see that the devs still work so much on this game with new content. Going through recent updates this whole thing looks like a labor of love. No wonder the game feels so polished.
Definitely the best shmup i've played since R-type final on the ps2 With Gradius 3 probably being my favorite.

Edit edit: on the switch too? I need this on the go.

If I could want anything more from this it'd be a wider variety of enemies like monsters unique to different planets to go with the machines and a wider more natural variety of environments like different terrain. The earlier green world with a ocean in the background was cool. Gets a bit samey with machine world after machine world mid way through.

The machine enemies already have a very large amount of variety, they're cool. Visually they are mostly distinct. When I see the long ship that I know fires off a giant laser start to come into the screen I start to panic, it's great.

So, they released this game in 2019. I bought this in 2016. This dev team has been working on it all these years and STILL IS! And I mean that with the greatest respect. These guys deserve your purchase.

Just look at the hours I put into this game. It's fun, it's challenging, you can get multiple hundreds upon hundreds of upgrades to select from after unlocking them from various means. Be it defeating bosses, combining weaponry (kinda like aging wine you may get something more powerful when using two specific components that may turn into something...greater), or just slaying foes and meeting such and such demands.

They even have a workshop if you want to try and create your own personal levels to keep for yourself or share with the world.

They have different ships to play and use, each with their own special weapon effect or special ability. And a cool story as well. It kinda reminds me of Starfox 64 honestly, except you are playing in a side scrolling shoot em up. You'll know what I mean by this when you beat the campaign...

I implore you to try this game, spread the word, it won't hurt your wallet. And just be amazed at the creativity of it all. If you love flying bullet mayham oooooooooo boy, this will be a big treat for you! Want to nullify em? No problem, there's special weaponry that can do that more or less =).

Hopefully you will be amazed as I have been at how dedicated they are and how much love they really did bring to this game.

Usually I rate games after I finish them completely. Because I got this for local multiplayer coop, I will say that with the discount it was great fun blasting through the first few maps of this game. I would consider the difficulty level to be quite high, especially on Arcade mode where you have to restart the whole game if you lose your limited lives. But getting boosted by upgrades let you go further and further with each restart. It was a laugh. I'm definitely curious how far things go, since we only managed to get through the first few maps. It worked via USB with 2 of my X Box control pads and a third party pad, so that was cool. Was worth the money already.

装備数とカスタマイズ幅が非常に膨大な基本横スクロールシューティング。

初版は2016年と非常に古い作品だが未だにアップデートが続いており、少し前に[url=https://steamcommunity.com/games/CounterAttack/announcements/detail/3738607609085380083]大型アップデート[/url]があったりも。
それどころか2017年の時点でオンラインマルチに対応して現在はSwitchとのクロスプラットフォーム対応、マウス操作にも対応していたりと非常に息の長い作品。

装備数の多さとビルドの多様性からオンラインマルチが非常に楽しい作品であり、オンラインマルチ可能なシューティングとしては[url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/582690/Toon_Shooters_2_The_Freelancers/]Toon Shooters 2: The Freelancers[/url]と並んでトップ2な作品。

[h1]◆装備ボリュームについて◆[/h1]

基本システムはグラディウスのパワーアップ形式の作品だが、道中で手に入れた武器やモジュールでカスタマイズできるのが魅力的。

その数なんと「総数600種類以上」とシューティングではトップクラスのボリューム。

相乗効果も重複しすぎるほどであり、組み合わせによっては全く見たことのないショットになったりも（逆に自由度が高すぎて稀に全く使えないショットになったりも）。

入手する武器やモジュールはある程度ランダムだが、マルチでプレイするとソロとは比較にならないほどドロップする（軽く5倍以上）のためマルチだと楽しいこと請け合い。

さらにラスボス撃破後のボーナスステージではクリアするたびに恒久的に最低ドロップ率を上げられ、このドロップ率は周回するごとに累積的に上昇するため周回する楽しみがあるのも良かった。

[h1]◆バランス調整について◆[/h1]

一方で高難易度はややバランス調整不足が見られ、難易度変化は敵の硬さ変化によるものが大きく、超ハードはバランスを間違えたのではと思える硬さで時間がかかるだけ。
現在はその上にインポッシブルが追加されたが、時間がかかって面倒なだけでは…

マルチに関しても（実際のプレイ人数ではなく）ルーム人数によって硬さが変わっている疑惑が。

ルートもいわゆるダライアス方式で主に3つから選べるが、
一番上のルートは特殊進行のステージが多く、縦シューティングになるのは良いとしてスペースハリアーのような奥スクロールシューティング（しかもかなり見にくい）、ミサイルのみの潜水艦操作、砲塔も動かす戦車操作とそれ別ゲーで良かったのではと思うステージが多め。

縦シューティング以外はいずれもかなり慣れが必要なほどであり、通常マップに遭遇すると安堵したほどだった。

サバイバルモードもウェーブサバイバルこそ非常に変化があり編隊の構成も練られており楽しいが他2つは変化に乏しくやや作業感のある内容だったのが気になった。

[h1]◆その他気になった点について◆[/h1]

他には敵弾の視認性の悪さが気になり、単なるエフェクトに近い見た目であり背景に見間違うことがちらほら。

背景色との兼ね合いも考慮されていないため、赤色背景の場合敵弾がほぼ見えないことも。

デフォルトだと各ステージが微妙に上下スクロールしてプレイしにくいが、設定→その他からOFFにできるため適用するとプレイが楽になるだろう。

戦車ステージでは残機ゼロで死亡するとカメラが超上空に行ったり、そもそも死亡しなくても突然カメラが超上空に行ったり（後者はビルドプラズマを装備していることが原因の可能性も）。

潜水艦ステージではマウス操作が効いたり効かなかったり（序盤が終わるとちゃんと効くようになる？）。

テストプレイでもバトルポッド・改→バトルコルベットに切り替えると別編成の装備構成が勝手に呼び出されたり、DPSが低いと思って入り直すとDPSが正常に戻ったり。
そのためテストプレイでDPSチェックする場合は適度に入り直すことが重要。

マルチの場合、PC環境によっては他プレイヤーとの同期ズレが発生し他プレイヤーが壁の中を進んでいたり。
具体的にはボス戦なのにボスがいなかったり、ボスのHPゲージが同期しておらず画面外まで伸びていたかと思っていたら即死したり。
中でもムカデのボスはかなりの長時間画面外を飛び回ることがあり、おそらく死亡した味方の位置まで移動している可能性がある。

ショットの明るさについても、自機以外はグラフィック設定から暗くできるが自機ショットの明るさは設定で暗くしても全然暗くなくショットの影響で敵弾が見えず死にかけたり。

似たように太陽ステージでは背景と敵弾の色がほぼ同じで見えづらかったり、とあるステージでは背景が白色すぎて自機がどこにいるのかわかりにくかったりも。

実績の「100万体撃破」が非常に大変。

かつては[url=https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2850879584]実績達成用のガイド[/url]が使えたが、現在は対策されたのかカウントされず正気の沙汰ではない。

なんとか達成できたが、一番美味しいのは通常サバイバルで3時間ほどで18万体稼げた。
特に2時間超え以降の敵数が非常に増加数が激しく[url=https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3131999345]他モード含めてガイドを執筆した[/url]ので参考までに。

悪い点こそあるが装備数の多さとカスタマイズ性はシューティングにおいてダントツの作品であり、なんと別機体になれるモジュールもあったり。

各装備の組み合わせを考えるのも非常に楽しく、最強ビルドが存在しない（というより多すぎて全部試せない）のも良かった。

一方で難易度を上げすぎると面倒なプレイしかならないため、周回時は最高でもハードぐらいにしておくと良いかもしれない。

なおオンラインマルチ時は残機ゼロで死亡しても待機ではなく、機銃操作で敵へ攻撃することが可能。
この機銃の威力が意外と高いため、忘れず援護すると生き残ったプレイヤーの役に立てるだろう。

CounterAttack is a side scrolling shoot 'em up that will draw you in for the 8 player co-op, and then keep you playing because of the wide variety of ship customization options and solid level design. Branching campaign paths, scale-able difficulty options, and various game modes keep the game fresh as you continue to unlock ship mods.

Overall a great game to play alone or with friends as you experiment with tons of fun options!

This game is a great shoot 'em up with very good online multiplayer and lots of ship customization. The campaign is good too, with different paths to choose from. The online multiplayer works extremely well, the hit detection is client sided so you don't have to worry about lag messing with the bullets. There aren't a lot of people who play this atm so if you have friends to play with that would help, but there's a discord where you can find people to play with too. The single player is good too if that's your thing, just like online just by yourself instead.

If you have a steam deck, I have played this game on it and it works flawlessly. runs great too and doesn't use much battery thanks to it's low system requirements I suppose.

If you're a shmup fan I highly recommend this game, if not I'd give it a try anyway, it's very good.

Nagyon jó kis játék lehetne, de teljesen kezelhetetlen ez az oldalról lövöldözés. WSAD + egér. Egyszerűen azt sem tudom, hogy hol vagyok bizonyos ellenségszám felett. Nem beszélve a lövedékek kerülgetésének nehézségéről, az upgrade-k lebegés közbeni felvételének megoldásáról (csak ha a hajó közepének pontjával érsz hozzá akkor tudod felvenni, a széle nem elég). Nem, sajnos nagyon nem.... pedig szerettem volna.

If you liked playing gradius, life force, or any other 8/16 bit side scrolling space shooter, this is for you. The kept the original concept (glide through space getting powerups and fighting space baddies) and expanded on it with combinations of unique powerups and beautiful effects and background graphics. The most challenging levels require strategically building a purpose built ship for them, adding a lot to the replay value. For the type of game it is, 10/10. Definitely worth the purchase.

Casual shmup I've been looking for. Who cares about story, I just want to shoot stuff and build my ship. Lots of customization/modifiers (although unlocks randomly). It's not too bullet-hell until the late stages. My only complaints are just visibility. I often die without knowing what hit me. Nukes are blinding (I can't see projectiles behind it). Some backgrounds make it harder to see enemy ships/small asteroids.

My previous Review Of Counter Attack is below sorry for the long read.
Game is better but now you pretty much need to build one type of weapon.

OK so the Devs have fixed quite a few issues and brought the game play back to a playable level and a fair few of the Modules have been rectified to what they are supposed to do I still have a lot of play testing to do but this is a lot like the game I remember and is still punishing in the higher levels.
Very rewarding game play when you get though the missions in my opinion now give a little of that take that bots feeling.
I didn't muck about I went to hard Hardcore which is pretty much my goto settings in the game.
Seems some of the modules have had changes and fixes and are in working order again.
The last few updates and patches have really turned Counter Attack around for me and I seriously improved the game on a whole.
Thank you for the truly huge effort Devs.

Seriously was a great game, had an explosive potential and the devs are active in the updates and improvements. but this game is just like every other game out now bad guys have huge buffs.
I hope the Devs will concentrate on the game play and less on balancing as this path always seems destroy games that have similar great potential.

What this game used to be should have been expanded on not just added hit points and faster firing enemies.

I actually am a little disappointed this was my Fave game, I still pay CA but it's little lower on my out of 10 scale now at around 3/10 Previous was 9/10.

I am no longer sure this game is worth paying for, it was a good game and has MASSIVE co-op potential.

But in my opinion the last 4 updates have not improved broken modules and weapons only exacerbated the current in game issues I have put in a great deal of time trying different items in the garage and in game only to find they don't work as the write up on the item describes.

A lot of the Modules have equal or more negative buffs than positive and as such you need to gear your ship around 1 or 2 mods, leading to a lack luster feeling when unlocking something and then using it and getting that OH WOW!! feeling of this is crap and disappointing.
I hope this game comes back to where it was as it's currently not that great.

My Review comes after spending 356.5 hours of play time to try at least 92% of the current unlocks.

Stunning shoot-em-up, incredibly addictive and spent far more time on this than I expected in such a short time after receiving it. The weapon system is so innovative - I've genuinely seen nothing like it before and it's so customisable it means that despite the genre, it really means that no two games could ever be the same.

With an almost unlimited number of weapon and support configurations at your disposal, combined with an even more flexible approach to weapon power-ups during the game itself, there's probably more depth to this than I've seen in any other arcade shooter. I haven't even had the chance to look at the custom game modes yet but there's far too much just in the main game alone to keep me engaged for a long time to come!

the games main draw is its deep upgrade system. with 3 weapon slots and 3 others, you can create a perfect custom build with the hundreds of attachments

ive only completed the easy path so far, so i intend to spend quite a bit more time with counterattack. totally worth it at full price for shump fans. cautious recommendation for non-fans, since the fundamentals of the genre are better displayed elsewhere

It's a side-scrolling shmup and even though it's not my genre at all, I enjoyed a couple of hours of playing it.
Read some of the other reviews about co-op, campaign mode, upgrades etc.

I want to add some appreciation for the developers:
This was apparently available, perhaps as Early Access(?), back in October 2016, then an official release date of March 11th 2019, and yet the developers keep sending out updates in early 2023.
Keep on trucking, developers!

I played it briefly on the PC, but then lost interest. But on the Steam deck, it's really addictive on the go. You only want to play one level for a short time, and then it quickly becomes three or four. This game is not Steam Deck verified. But it really should be! I didn't miss any feature. On the contrary, everything fits perfectly! If you like rudimentary space shoot em ups and want to play a quick round, this is the game for you. It's just a lot of fun!
