Despite the game being labelled as "psychological horror" and "choices matter" its not really either of those. Most of the horror is just scary distorted faces, whispering sounds, and jumpscares. If you like cheap horror this game is for you. The choices also hardly matter, which makes sense, trying to do too many different paths will take away from the core story youre trying to tell. But it still feels like the choices are kinda pointless and just there to make the player do something.

I do think the game should get some flowers though, its just compared to another game who did the concept first. The atmosphere is all right and fits with the story. I also like Karin's character and her monika-like behavior of trying to rid everyone else. the double bait and switch of thinking karin was going to just monika you but you end up killing her was a cool change. (i dont want to entirely compare her to monika but yk) overall i'd recommend to your friends who know absolutely nothing (like i did)

Cooking Companions es una novela visual corta de terror tapada con un arte y ambiente bonitos que se quitan a los veinte minutos de juego. En esta corta historia estaremos con nuestro grupo de amigos que llega a una cabaña en mitad del bosque. Nosotros, siendo un personaje sin nombre que apenas habla, seremos el cocinero del grupo. No voy a decir mucho salvo que…es un título raro cuanto menos:

[u]-La historia es…extraña:[/u] te dedicas a cocinar para tus amigos, y en la misma cabaña conocerás a los “Chompettes”: unas verduras y un mendrugo de pan parlantes. Tras conocer toda la historia y creer entenderla…sigo sin saber a santo de qué era buena idea crear unos trozos de verdura que hablan, me saca mucho del juego. Además, cuando “supuestamente” terminas la historia empiezas el modo “Pesadilla” y, después de este, el “Nueva Partida +”, cosas que engañan ya que realmente no son tales, y la historia continúa.

[u]-Es un juego de terror,[/u] así que podemos esperarnos ver caras o un arte grotesco y horrendo. Y dicho arte se compone de caras grotescas y feas, junto con varios puntos sutiles y muy positivos (te asomas por una ventana y ves algo semitransparente ocultarse entre los árboles mientras escuchas susurros). Como tal screamers hay pocos, y si los hay, normalmente el volumen no te penetra los tímpanos, lo cual es de agradecer.

Pienso que la obra tiene varios problemas: una duración demasiado corta; ,los personajes son planos y muy tópicos y un “modo pesadilla y nueva partida +” que no lo son. Todo esto me hace pensar mucho en qué dirección quería llevar el creador este título. Os vais a encontrar una obra de terror experimental con muchas caras grotescas y muchos, muchos logros (80 para ser exactos). Trata diversos temas interesantes y el arte está bien trabajado. Por tanto, [b]recomiendo[/b] Cooking Companions a todo aquel que quiera leer una historia de terror, que le guste el factor de asustarse un poquito con alguna cara horrenda y que le guste hilar conceptos de una historia extraña y curiosa.

Cooking Companions is a short horror visual novel covered with a ‘cute’ art and environment which are taken away after twenty minutes playing. In this short story we’ll be with our group of friends who find a cabin in the woods. We, as a nameless almost silent character, will cook for our friends. I’m not going to say much, apart from the fact that this is…a strange title at least:

[u]-A bizarre story:[/u] you basically cook for your friends, and you’ll meet the ‘Chompettes’ in the cabin: some talking vegetables and a crust of bread. After knowing the story and completing the game…I still don’t know why the creator put characters like these in the game, they don’t make much sense and they kill the mood with their childish Japanese voices. Another thing is the fact that, when you ‘supposedly’ complete the game you’ll begin ‘Nightmare Mode’ and then ‘New Game+’, but they are not really modes, the story just continues.

[u]-It’s a horror game,[/u] so we’ll expect to watch horror art. And said art consists of ugly and horrendous faces, alongside some very positive points in the game (when you look from a window and you can see something semi-transparent hiding behind a tree, for example). There are some screamers, as they are called, but when you find them, you won’t become deaf by listening to a loud scary sound. I thank the developer for not succumbing to cheap horror.

I think this work has many problems: a too-short duration, the characters are plain and very typical, and some new ‘game modes’ that aren’t such. All of this makes me wonder about what the director wanted to do with this game. You’re going to find an experimental horror video game with many scary faces and many, many achievements (80, to be precise). It talks about one or two interesting topics for a horror game and the artwork is good. All in all, I [b]recommend[/b] Cooking Companions to everyone who wishes to read a horror story, who likes the ‘getting scared’ feeling with some faces and horror art, and who likes to think about what the story is telling them.

I 100% recommend this game to anyone who likes visual novels with a creepy atmosphere.
The lore of the world, who the characters are and what`s actually going on gets dished out very slowly, but in a satisfying manner for the most part. The characers remain a bit shallow and connecting all the dots of the plot requires effort and multiple play-throughs.
Gotta praise the atmosphere specifically: it will drag you in effortlessly and keep you invested.

Not a massive fan of this I had to say. I went in expecting some pretty good horror based on the reviews and it really fell flat for me. I didn't find it particularly scary - although it has a macabre topic there is no depth to it when you have no attachment to the characters due to the pacing. The scares are usually either a small jumpscare or a creepy face laid over the anime face. I was mainly confused about the storyline and motivations of the Chompettes and Potato. I played through the main game, Nightmare mode and NG+ (not sure if there is a difference there? it wasn't explained very well). I found the game telling you to save and warning you about scares quite poor game development. Overall, very tame, not great game mechanics, a lot of skipping dialogue you've already read, and a lack of depth in character.

Watched gameplays and theories from game Theory back when this game just came out, I loved every second of it, and now I finally played it and I have to say, Im sad that I didn't played the game first and then watched the theories, because I already know some stuff BUT Im still in awe playing the game.
Thinking how strong the impact would have been playing it by myself gives me the sensation of "wow so good with all spoiled, it must be great!".

Also, I didn't knew of the changes with animation and other things, I love how it looks and I love the other changes (not commenting much for spoilers), but yeah, great additions in my book.

Really, great job with the game, once I finish it and get the platinum I will get and play the sequel, this time without spoilers!

In conclusion: Great game, great visual novel I truly belive I found a new game-gender to fall in love with (along with DDLC and Corpse Factory).

La historia me gustó mucho la primera vez q lo jugué, te llega a generar momentos de tensión, además de que el hecho de poder profundizar un poco en la historia de cada personaje tmb me parece bueno. Para los que les guste el género, es un lindo juego de terror psicológico. I tend to read alot of novels, it comes and goes from otome games to just straight up murdering people as this one. I really enjoyed the art style from this game and the confusing aspects, completely completing the game finally makes you understand who you are and why you do what you do, the slavic lore was amazing addition to this visual novel and im excited to delve even deeper into the games sequeal: dread weight.

Loved the fact that there were links to Slavic folklore that I wouldn't have researched if not for this game, though I do prefer the sequel (Dread Weight) since this game doesn't have the same adrenaline rush caused by the spirits. All-in-all a fantastic game and I thoroughly enjoyed the idea of finding recipes that I might try to use someday out of curiosity and I adore the art style.

I stumbled across Cooking Companions while looking for games similar to DDLC. It is in a similar vein--cute visual novel with horrific undertones that slowly lures you in. However, what sets Cooking Companions apart is its themes of hunger, desperation, and mystery. I felt intrigued to play through the game again and again to get a better glimpse of the underlying story.

It's fun, it's memorable, it's something that makes you think about humanity and how vicious it can be. However, there are times where the "spooky faces" and edgy dialogue seem a bit overhanded. Don't let this be a gamebreaker for you--the real story is worth digging for.

微累一周目心得

此款遊戲在Steam自身分類就有透露出是類似DokiDoki心跳文學部的文字可愛恐怖遊戲了，發行商也是同一間。

整體一周目下來劇情非常值得玩味，有很多秘密小紙條值得仔細推敲年代和人物關係。還有四位主要NPC都各有特色，你一定會喜歡上至少一個。而就算不衝著戀愛模擬或烹飪遊戲的噱頭進來，主角的身分存疑和幾乎每天都會做的可怕夢境這點也適合想深入扒扒懸疑故事的玩家遊玩。

並且遊戲內CG豐富，甚至還有動畫CG！還不只一段！！！這是最驚艷我的一點。到了遊戲後期的玩法也越來越恐怖，比如典型的僅靠手電筒照明來探索等，總之大推，雖然是幾年前的遊戲了但一點也不過時，大白天不戴耳機玩照樣能把你嚇個半死

纯纯谜语人游戏，前期看似很恐怖悬疑实则故事情节非常单薄，有几个结局人物的行为也是让人不知所云。
虽然做了全成就，但是感觉是在浪费时间，所以不打算汉化英文成就指南了。

I wouldn't call this game the height of horror (or visual novels), but it's a fun and spooky time with fairly memorable characters. As a fan of old fairy tales, I enjoyed the integration of that aspect as well.
Grab a friend to joke around with, or else some snacks and a comfy coach, and you'll have an entertaining evening full of mild jumpscares and creepy little moments.

A tentative recommendation, this was fun time, I like how you are gradually eased into the atmosphere and that it builds as you play. The writing is good, the characters feel real and aren't over the top.

But when a vn has a horror tag, I assume it's because of spooky writing, this one has a lot of jumpscares, (as well as spooky writing) but I wouldn't have bought this if I knew there were jumpscares. Part of the reason I like horror VNs is that they don't (usually) rely on cheap spooks. Wish they put this in the description so people know what they are buying.

Took just under 3 hours to finish, so i'd suggest to get it on sale

I just finished my first playthrough and dear gods above, I am going to have the worst nightmares. This game is so psychologically disturbing. The writing, the animations, the little details you notice more and more as the game goes on, it all serves this messed up plot. By the end, you may not fully understand the game, but you will understand the feeling of fear it gives you. The primal dread creeping into you as you watch the indescribable horrors unfold, and yet there's nothing you can do to stop it. The clock ticks forward no matter your actions, you just have to hope you choose the best between two bitter evils.

This game is a work of art. I am a lover of horror books, movies, and games, and this is one of the few horror games that's actually gotten under my skin a little bit recently. One of the brief images that flash on screen is burned into my memory, the art is very well done!

This game has well written characters, eerie dialogue, nearly infinite replayability, creative jumpscares, and very interesting allusions to Slavic folklore. Even after getting all of the achievements I am still finding new dialogue! The juxtaposition of the cutesy art style/relationship sim aspect of the game and the deeply disturbing themes is such a fun idea.

This game is a must-play for those that love horror games. Well done developer, I look forward to playing the next installment in the series!

Cooking Companions is a deceptively cute psychological horror visual novel that absolutely earns its cult reputation! Originally funded on Kickstarter and later released on Steam, this game starts off sweet and wholesome, but once you settle in, the tone shifts into something deeply unsettling, mysterious, and surprisingly emotional. What looks like a cozy little cooking adventure quickly becomes a tense descent into paranoia, fear, and dark secrets, and the payoff is so worth it!

The writing is excellent, the characters are engaging and lovable in ways that make the horror hit much harder, and the atmosphere slowly builds into pure discomfort. The game uses subtle tension and psychological dread instead of cheap scares, and when things go wrong, they go really wrong. Multiple endings, hidden scenes, secret routes, and incredibly detailed CGs make replaying genuinely exciting. Your first run might leave you confused and uneasy, but New Game Plus pulls back the curtain, and suddenly everything clicks into place. Finding all the endings and piecing together the lore is not just satisfying, it becomes a full obsession once the story digs its hooks in!

The art is charming and beautiful at first, then haunting and eerie as the truth reveals itself. Each route gives you more pieces of the puzzle, and by the time you fully understand what is going on, the emotional impact lands hard. Fans of Doki Doki Literature Club, Corpse Party, or any dark narrative games will be right at home here. It is unsettling, clever, and weirdly funny at times, even as the dread never truly leaves!

Highly recommended if you enjoy psychological horror, branching visual novels, and stories that reward paying attention! Cute on the outside, disturbing at its core, and absolutely worth experiencing multiple times to uncover every secret. Bon appétit…

我也不知道我在期待什么，，也许是因为恋爱模拟+恐怖的标签，和看起来感觉不错的立绘就盲入了。蔬菜的画风搭配恐怖标签有种欢乐树的朋友们的即视感。这一个半小时真的好折磨TT 因为花钱买了不打完一个流程总感觉很可惜，于是硬撑着玩到最后心里只有一个想法那就是快结束吧！求你了为什么还有这么多模式？！要比较的话感觉不如ddlc有意思，剧情很谜语人，对我这种无脑只想看剧情的人很不友好，打完了还是没太懂我放弃了。不想思考对不起…游戏内的动画很精致（是的怎么还有动画x 总之感觉适合对恐怖类型不抵触/对恐怖题材感兴趣的玩家。剧情，，剧情我觉得完全是为了恐怖服务的。游戏质量其实不错但我对这个类型不太感冒所以不推荐。

Acompañantes de cocina es muy TURBIO, una montaña rusa de emociones y momentos muy incómodos que reflejan verdaderamente el terror psicológico al mas puro estilo "Doki Doki" pero con más sustos, imágenes turbias y esquizofrenia. Esta bastante conseguido, y si hablamos de la construcción del factor "miedo", efectivamente da mucho miedo, pero en la ejecución se clava unas cuantas pifias. Su historia es muy rara, los personajes son todos simplones y el contexto de inundación sumado a ciertas actitudes que tienen los personajes en la cabaña no se sienten muy creíbles, es más cómo un creepypasta antiguo muy exagerado que una historia bien hecha. En calidad artística visual y conceptual no alcanza ni en pedo al club de literatura de dan salvato (del cual se inspiran), se nota el esmero de todas maneras. En la cocina me decepcionó que no hubiera nada de "cocinar" en el juego, aunque sea básica, creo que hubiera sido más inmersivo como mecánica en lugar de puro diálogo.

I really wanted to enjoy this game, and I'd give it a neutral rating if at all possible, but overall I'd have to say it fell flat for me personally due to the pacing and writing.

Minor spoiler warning!

On one hand, I enjoyed the concept a lot on paper. The twist itself COULD have been great. The music was pretty solid, and there were quite a few times when I got genuinely creeped out by the atmosphere. The "scary" art was done REALLY well; I always felt a sense of dread when the faces would change or the ghosts would appear. I loved how if you paused too long, the background noises would shift into something terrifying. That got me more than I'd care to admit when I came to sit back down after getting water and heard whispers coming through my headphones.

However, the pacing of the game takes away a lot of impact. You haven't even settled into the characters or built any type of real connection with them before the first "bad" thing happens and a character goes. This is continued throughout the whole game. I felt indifference towards each character departure because they simply... didn't matter to me. I'm unsure if this was intentional due to who the player character is supposed to be, showcasing a loss of humanity and thus ability to build actual connections with others, or if it was simply a writing issue. Either way, it left the experience somewhat hollow because each loss had no effect for me other than being an easy means to continue the plot.

Speaking of the plot, it did have its solid points. Again, I loved the premise of the game, but I think the writing really was the downfall of this experience. I wouldn't say I'm a VN snob by ANY means, but when you're doing a game like this, especially a horror one, the story IS the gameplay, so you really have to nail it since you don't have anything else to fall back on. There were a lot of instances where I wanted more explanation or detail, a "show, not tell" approach would have helped this tremendously. I dunno. I feel like I was told certain things happened, but nothing was expanded upon enough to feel satisfying or complete. There were also a few typos I found, but for me personally, it was pretty easy to ignore.

I think if the game had been longer and paced to match, it would have been not only scarier, but also more solid overall for the storytelling. I did 100% the game so I could get every bit of story out of it I could, but it just. Didn't help much. Even as I was getting my last achievements, I felt like I had missed something because there just wasn't much meat there (no pun intended). Your choices of spending time with characters doesn't do much for the story because, again, you don't care about them, and all you get are a couple more lines from them that have no impact whatsoever. The actual horror of the situation doesn't creep in and grab you, you're just placed into it with no real reaction. This could, I guess, be justified again by who the player character is and what they've done in the past, but it left me feeling unsatisfied when it felt like there was so much potential for what could happen. Plus, the reactions to the situation from the other characters felt extremely lackluster. They mostly just accept it and carry on, and though there are a few tears shed, it did nothing to reflect the actual terror that would be felt, even if they are in denial of reality. There should have been something there.

Overall, I appreciate the obvious effort and love that went into this game. It's clear the dev loves horror, and I think the passion itself is definitely there, but this game just didn't do it for me personally. I think Cooking Companions would be a great game for people that are interested in scary visuals in particular or want to stream/record themselves playing it for fun maybe with friends, but if you're looking for a solid horror VN that will scare you but also suck you in and leave you satisfied with the experience as a whole, I don't think this game would be it. If you're going to buy it, definitely wait for a good sale!

今回の大型アプデにあわせて全文修正が入って機械翻訳のような内容ではなくなっています…！
(マライアが敬語でなくなり、キャベツちゃんが僕っ子じゃなくなりました)

I did not expect this game to be as horror-oriented as it was, and naturally, the impact of the horror is fairly dulled by the adorable, happy vegetables, but I feel that the balance works well. Though there are obvious attempts to scare or simply create unease, I don't get the impression that this game was attempting to take itself too seriously, and as such is simply just fun. The story is the most nuanced part of this game because, despite not offering commentary or symbolism, it's still incredibly complicated and engaging to decipher. Otherwise, nothing stands out to me as particularly good or bad. The music isn't extremely moving or atmospheric and the visuals are definitely nice but still don't strike me as sublime. Cooking Companions is overall just a fairly fun game.

This game has been a huge special interest of mine for almost 4 years now, I think it genuinely, single-hand, changed my brain chemistry. (Autism is a BEAST.)

Although the story DOES gets really messy and hard to understand at times, Sometimes catering towards borderline random nonsense. I do appreciate the time that was taken to make this game.

I was also in a fan server for the game at one point but i'm not sure if it was deleted or I got kicked because it disappeared. But in the end, I got friended by Deer Dream Studios himself!

While I do really love the main 4 in the first part of the game, The Chompettes Origins story stuck out to me the most. I found the chompettes really charming and the dlc just made me like them more!! I just wish we got way more content of them, truly.

One of my personal flaws with this game was the lack of content there was for every character, I wish we could've gotten way more about them besides some tiny info. But take that with a grain of salt as its just my opinion.

I don't know where to begin with the art, Its awesome. You can really tell everyone's personalities just by their sprites alone.

Overall, The game is a hard 8.5/10 for me. I hold it very dear to me but I can't lie about there being a lot of missed opportunities for the game.

というわけで、また最初から遊び直して全実績解除。

攻略についてのガイドは日本語はないですが、
英語で分かりやすいものがあるのでそう難しくない。
『あの実績が取れない』って人は見てみるといいかも。

クオリティから考えればお手頃でオススメ。

To put my cards on the table early: I saw that the devs wanted to hit 1k reviews before the launch of the console ports and figured: "What the Hell."

Pra quem gosta de visual novel e terror, esse jogo é perfeito! Recentemente, peguei todas as conquistas de Cooking Companions e foi muito divertido explorar cada pedaço do jogo, de verdade.
