A 25 year old game that runs smoothly on modern hardware, and credits go to THQ Nordic for that. 10 bucks is a laughable price for such a turd. While the game is not cheap, it certainly feels [i]cheap[/i]
It manages to simplify flight controls (eg. automate altitude) to the point that it makes things HARDER, not easier. Difficulty resides not in mission planning, not in flying the damn thing, not in targeting, not in navigating. It lies in the battles where you're stacked at 1 vs. 200, the spiteful countdowns (too late, you lost!), the legion of suicide prevention missions (X threw themselves head on and empty-handed against the enemy, you lost!), not to mention the elephant-sized suspension of disbelief you're expected to swallow when it comes to both the writing and geography (your mileage may vary, but to me, it adds insult to injury).
The Delta Force series was a reasonably fun bridge between arcade and tactics, but this is downright despicable. NovaLogic is dead, and I dance on its corpse.
I wasn't able to configure my Xbox 1/PC HOTAS flying stick. The graphics don't seem to have improved much compared to Comanche 3, if they had improved at all.
This and Doom were the first games, way back when, where you could go anywhere you wanted (non-linear I think it is called). I used to go around this mountain and "sit" at a certain place like a cat and wait for my enemies! When they flew by I could then take them all out! This was the first version of the game. This one is the 2nd? version I think which is still good that way. The newest is beautiful but too difficult by comparison and misses the point for me of just going out for "a spin" and doing my own thing to a degree. I set the game on novice, which can still be difficult, but does not have you wanting to throw the computer out the window! You have to remember back then it was quite something NOT to have to follow some script. This game was the best visually also. Simplicity is the key! Patience. That kind of thing. Then I can use this game to practice being alert when tense and things like that. I am retired now. I was trained security. Learning to listen with your eyes but not to speak is a good tool to develop for anyone. This is a fun way to do that!! Listening skills need to be practiced EVERY day. This is a great tool for fun and actual training to be safe. Relaxed listening is the key. And this does NOT have to be about "violence". Learn how to be a good "loser"! You always gain when you know how to "lose"! So thank your enemy? Great game!
Such a fun nostalgic game from childhood. Obviously the graphics are dated but that's not why I bought it again after 20 years.

Четвёртая игра в серии симуляторов управления вертолетом Команч – тот случай, когда аркадность пошла на пользу. Она хороша в управлении, в фановости, драйве уровня начала нулевых, сюжетной бессюжетности Novalogic, ностальгичности на уровне Delta force Land warrior и хорошо удовлетворяет желание купить радиоуправляемый вертолётик в реальности. Графический потенциал игры в своё время был прекрасен, и на что-то до сих пор можно закрыть глаза.
К сожалению, в настоящее время игра состарилась достаточно сильно в геймплейном плане, и после двух-трёх миссий (из 30 в 6 кампаниях, кстати, как заявлено) готова спокойно дальше валяться среди сотни игр, не прошедших проверку временем. Если вы не застали её вовремя, вряд ли она сможет вас увлечь, но это всё равно лучше и приятнее авиа-симуляторов от той же Novalogic того же времени.

was playing this on disc back in 2001... loved the game back then but was able to pick it up 15 years later on Steam... not ever done a playthrough like the days on my old WinXP Rig so will sit down this week and play it through the campaign missions...

2003-2004 gibi bu oyunun demosunu oynamıştım daha çocuktum. Demodaki tek görev Eagle's Talon idi. Oyunun tam sürümünün Steam'de olduğunu keşfettiğime çok sevindim. Zamanının ötesinde fiziklere sahip bir oyun.

I'm so glad to have this game back. It seems harder than it was but then again it's 20 plus years later and my reflexes were probably faster. None the less its still fun and of course we wish the graphics engine was improved but I still love it. Getting back to PC gaming after being away from it forever. whew this is tough.

One the the classics. It was the third game that I played when I was a child, didnt even join nursery. Playing this game now feels like a dream, this game is everything an OG player will ever need, try it, it was, is, and will always be the best comanche game ever

It's a classic game
I wanted to like this game, but it's just too flawed and frustrating to thoroughly enjoy.
being a game from 2001, it also has some issues running properly on modern hardware, but with the help of some tools(dgVoodoo to be exact), but once that's up and said, it runs fine.
Obviously it looks dated, but does decently with the Graphics, units and models do stand out and you have a clear way of knowing what each enemy is.
landscape and enviroment looks fine, but it just looks too "smooth" and flat, despite having hills and mountains.
It has 6 campaigns which each has a bunch of missions.
You can however, only see the next mission in the campaign and to load any of the previous missions, you have to go to the "mission archive".
First time looking at the mission screen, it felt a bit confusing.
The gameplay is somewhat of a mess.
it's somewhere between being an arcade game and a simulation game, while succeding in being neither.
it has the floaty feel of an arcade game but a hint of the clunkiness of a simulation.
Joystick don't work, so had resort to mouse and keyboard which works fine.
The game does not give you proper feedback and a lot of times you just bounce into things,
since whenever you're at a low altitude, you'll automatically fly over obstacles and terrain, except not all the time, as i experienced hitting the ground at places where i thought i would have been able to hover over it.
not to mention how big your hitbox is, since your helicopter blades reach further out, you're bound to be more careful, but at multiple times i hit trees or building where it looked like i wasn't even touching them.
Combat is essentially a missile fest, where you fire so many missiles it's comedical, the same also goes for the enemies, often you're shot down by enemies you haven't seen or weren't rendered in yet.
your targeting system keeps targeting dead enemies and if you're desperately trying to aim at the AA that's aiming at you, which is immensly frustrating, which can also result it your death.
Some missions will have a teammate chopper that follows you around and shoots at enemies, overall works fine, but the commands are very specific and lacks a simple "follow me".
Missions don't have a save point in them, so if you die from any of the annoyances or you fail a mission, the only option left is to start from the beginning of the mission again.
There are some decent and fun missions, but escort and protection missions that have a timer or a friendly AI you have to babysit are the worst.
A lot of times, exploiting the game, by ignoring the waypoints and killing the enemies to then fly back to the waypoint to activate the scripted sequence in order to continue on with the mission was the best and least frustrating way to complete them, even then sometimes objectives don't update, despite having flown over the waypoints and you're essentially softlocked and have to restart the mission.

If you've ever wanted to feel the intense fun of a helicopter pilot at a reasonable price, this the perfect game. $10 for a ton of missions in different locales fighting enemies from KA-27s to patrol boats with an array of fun weaponry. From your 20mm cannon to the AGM 114 Hellfire, you're going to have fun using all of them.
My only real complaint would be that the gunner view doesn't get the classic FLIR appearance that many people would be accustomed to seeing. Nonetheless, it's a blast to fly around, lock targets and spam rockets, blowup buildings with Hellfires, and shred patrol boats with the 20mm.

I got this because I used to play it way back when in the windows 95/98 days it's ok for what it is but if you'd like a more realistic Heli Sim I would recommend Heliborne Collection a good sim with U.S. and Soviet Heli's

Out of the entire Comanche series, Comanche 4 is the worst performer, it has not aged well at all. That recent Comanche game that came out in 2021 or whatever doesn't count since IMO that game is not even part of the franchise. Comanche 4 is way too arcade-y and relies too much on quick action, in your face missions that are often time sensitive. Though in honesty all the Novalogic Comanche games are like this, but Comanche 4 takes that whole practice and multiplies it by 100. The missions where it is time sensitive don't allow you to move in slow and don't allow you to analyze and develop the situation. You just have to fly in fast and get shot down in the process. Oh and the flares have a 99.7% failure rate so why even bother having them in the game. Maybe its the fact that some of the missiles that are fired at you such as the SA-6 and HAWK SAMs are radar guided IRL, but even then IR guided missiles that actually lock on to you, the flares don't do anything at all.
One thing that I always hated about the Novalogic Comanche series is that all your targets you are targeting and engaging are close range. The farthest you can detect something is about 1.3 - 1.5 km. What does this mean? It means that every target you spot and engage is close enough for it to shoot back at you. Hellfires IRL have a max range of 8 km and the Comanche IRL is able to detect, identify, and engage targets farther than the Apache Longbow. There's simply no way to actually fully employ and make use of all of the Comanche's strengths due to Novalogic's poor game design.
While this game is still technically playable to an extent, much of it has not aged well, just like Novalogic itself or what remains of it. If you want to actually play this game and complete missions, look up the cheat codes for invisibility or god mode because this game (as well as the rest of Novalogic's games) are just poorly made arcade shooters. Honestly, if you want a better Comanche game, try Comanche 3. Just be forewarned, Comanche 3's sound effects are awful and the MIDI music is nausea inducing.
While I enjoyed Novalogic back in the day, their games were poorly made specifically in mission design, level design, and scripting. A lot of times the player is sent in solo against impossible odds and obviously that's not how it works IRL. That's why I preferred Jane's Longbow 1 and 2 more because those games actually emphasize on the actual military sim and tactical helicopter sim instead of arcade mechanics.
I will say though that I had too much fun crashing into friendlies and causing countless fratricide. Cuz that's what Comanche 4 deserves, nothing but crash and burn.
--- One Thing To Note If You Want To Play ---
One awesome user by the name of kschang77 mentioned something really helpful that would allow the player to clear these annoying escort time sensitive missions - so you will have to completely avoid the waypoints in order to not trigger the event scripting. Avoid those waypoints and just move about low and slow and destroy all the enemies firsthand. After you destroy all the enemies then you can fly to the waypoints and trigger the event scripts. Easy way to cheese the dated game and mission design.

I've purchased this game when it first came out. Liked the 3D graphics on it, and the simplicity of the game controls. I lost my old game CD since and was surprised to see on Steam. Even though I had played it long ago, I still have not played through the entire game as some part of it is challenging, but its all very arcade style makes me keep playing it over and over.
One of the best games made by Novalogic apart from the Delta Force franchise, although Commanche 4 is tough to get running on modern computers its worth the effort, you get to commandeer an attack helicopter and you get to play through many different locations around the world, the missions range from destroying simple stationary targets to aerial combat situations.

Неплохой авиасимулятор от Лоджиков, да как в общем-то и другие симуляторы от них. В отличие от самолетов, вертолетная игра гораздо проще, ощущается практически как аркада - но местами заставляет поломать голову. Да хотя бы в выборе снарядов - ракет ограниченное количество, и нужно еще подумать, что пустить сразу в расход на машины, танки и зенитки, а что оставить на вертушки, которые в большом количестве способны заставить подорвать седалище в короткий промежуток времени.
Сюжета как такового нет, только сборка миссий, изначально открытых, так что можно хоть сразу лететь бомбить конвой, если до него долетите))
А так неплохой симулятор, если удастся взять по скидке, или купить ключик - пройти можно

Gefallen tut mir dieses Spiel Comanche 4 schon, NUR, es fehlt die ÜBERSETZUNG für die Bedienelemente und Handhabung des Hubschraubers.
Hierdurch ist es fast nicht möglich Spaß und Spannung bei diesem Spiel zu bekommen, zumal ich das Spiel ordnungsgemäß erworben habe.
Das ist Schade.
wenn es eine Übersetzung gibt, ich brauche diese Übersetzung auf DEUTSCH, weil das Spiel sonst für mich Sinnlos ist.

I used to play this game back in the day. Now is just as fun and as good as I remember. I use an Xbox controller to play, and it makes game play easy and more fun.

Commanche 4 is a flight simulator, where you have to control a Comanche scout attack helicopter in different missions on different part of the world.
The game has challenge, even on the easiest difficulty. You have to maneuver your aircraft according your enemies and the terrain, also use the correct weapon against them, if you don't want to get 4 - 5 rockets and finish it. Also, even though the game is old, for 2001 it looks good, especially the other units you can see in the game. The controls are weird at first, but you can get use to it with the keyboard easily. The sound design is all right, has no music, but it doesn't need it.
Comanche 4 advertise as a simulator, but I don't feel it is one, It's more like a tactical shooter. Also, the terrains in the game looks really poor most of the times. The game's escort missions are horrible, also some missions are just confusing. Truth to be told, there are markers which show you where you need to go, however most of the time is better to leave those be and complete the mission as it is, especially if that is an escort mission, because those are bad in the game. Sometimes you lose the mission with no apparent reason, or you can't even find the unit(s), which you need to escort. The game has short missions, which is a double edge sword in my opinion: it's good for variety to play more missions in a shorter time, however if you die in the mission, you always have to retry it.
I played this game's demo when I was 4 - 5 years old, and I somewhat liked it, even though I didn't understood it... however I'm not clear with the game now neither. You can have some fun with it, so I can recommend this one, but get ready for some old school gameplay issues. 10€ is too much for it, but 4 is definitely a good price for it.

The graphics and controls have aged poorly, but after a few minutes you'll get used to it and the game will be a lot of fun. The game is short, but the mission editor allows you to extend the fun time.

Тонна летающего говна. В начале обучения ♥♥♥♥♥ ничего не понятно даже со знанием английского языка. А управление летательным аппаратом вряд ли можно назвать реалистичным, так как этот вертолет не способен плавно летать в воздухе при нажатии пробела, вертолет резко падает вниз, не касаясь земли, но очень неудобно во время боевых действий.
Game becomes unplayable at a certain point due to Sysdump error followed by a crash. Happens every single time and I have tried several "fixes" that I have found on the internet with no improvement in the situation. I have also tried to email the developer and the publisher at their support email but their emails are deactivated or something because it can never send. Would have very much liked to give this game a positive review but this problem is game breaking and I can't recommend it.

Haven't had the sysdump error since I did this. Going to update to thumbs up because it's a good game. Even if the people that ported it are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless.

brings back memories, a simple game to play when you got a little bit of time and seems to run well. This is the game that got me into simulators and aviation. Only has a few mission to play and no custom mission as far as I can tell. Even on easy difficulty it is a challenge.

Как была она хороша в детстве, так и остаётся до сих пор. Концептуально, похожее сделать не пытаются, а жаль. Как и то, что серия свернулась вместе с самим объектом воздаяния.

It is a classic helicopter simulation game. Despite its age it runs fine on Windows 11 and modern configurations but as an old game the max resolution is 1280x1024

Comanche 4 is an old, arcadey helicopter flying game. You fly an helicopter (and a really good looking one too) and you shoot things. Pretty simple. Works well on modern systems i just started the game and i was good to go no settings, no weird things to download or mess with files just load a mission and play. The game works very well with keyboard and mouse too which is great. Everything about the game is good but the amount of missions suck. There is only a handful of missions. You can complete the entire game within a few hours.
+The graphics, sounds and gameplay is really nice.
+The helicopter looks cool.
+The controls are simple, the settings are easy to change feels like a modern game especially considering how some of these older games either don't work at all or they need a lot of effort first before you can actually play them.
-Not many missions. You have like 10 max and thats it. They are incredibly short too.
The game is fun, the helicopter looks good, the controls are good everything is fine except the amount of actual content in the game. You only have a few missions and 1 of them is a training mission anyways the rest are actual missions but they are too short and simple. For its full price, 18 TL, this game is NOT worth it. Not because its a bad game or a broken game but simply because it doesn't have much content. I bought the "Novalogic Classics Volume One: Machines of War" pack on an 80 percent discount so i spent a total of 9,80 TL for 6 old games. In a deal like that then yeah you can get it but only if you are really interested in the game. The deal might be good but if you are not interested then you'll still feel like you spent a lot more money then you should have. I'm happy with it especially with how little effort it took to get this old game running on my PC i was interested in this game too and thanks to that Novalogic Classics package i managed to get 6 games i was interested in for a cheap price. I'm happy with it, i'll recommend the game but i wanna say again the content in here is really short you'll play this game for only a few hours and you'll have finished all the missions by then. Don't buy this game on its own, especially not at full price. Consider buying the Novalogic Classics package only if you are really interested in it and only if its in a huge discount. Otherwise you'll feel like you wasted your money.
