I did read the whole store page. it did sound interesting. So I did buy it.

Turns out, not only does it not run well on Steam Deck, [h3]it doesn't even boot on Steam Deck[/h3].

I'm not saying it's a bad game, but I was planning on playing it on my Deck and that's not an option, so I can't recommend it and even though it feels petty to refund 50 cents, I can't play it and it's getting refunded.

It's dark, it's spooky, it's full of monsters... basically find the key and then find the exit type of game. You can't see far, so you have to memorize the whole stage. Might look simple but gameplay is somewhat engaging. Hard to recommend but if you played games like Yomawari it might be worth checking out.

Finishing the game without getting hit doesn't gave you the achievement.

Since there's no middleground, I had to pick one.
It's quite a nice and short game and the pixel art is quite good, but it comes with although not big issues, but enough to get annoying.
- Mainly lack of polishness. There are sound effects that are missing, nor indicators to check how many toys we have collected, text that overlaps, etc.
- For a unsettling atmosphere that the game tries to create, the game over screen throws a whiplash of a bgm.
- There's only three soundtracks. We would expect that at least the title screen get a different one but sadly no
- On the later stages the game turns repetitive, since there are no new enemies nor traps

Polishing above stuff would make it into a very nice short experience. In the meantime, I'm not quite sure if I can recommend it.

I am 32 years old.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.

Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.

With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.

After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.

Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.

Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.

Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

A maze that gets bigger and more tedious as levels go on, the movement feels really bad as it's tile based so you're running from tile to tile instead of actually having free moment which will lead to alot of unnecessary deaths.

Sound design is nothing, so the environment has next to no sound making wondering the maze just feel lifeless and boring, the music gets repetitive after a while too as it loops the same for every level.

Every death plays a trumpet noise and start you from the start of the level, even after collecting a collectable you need to recollect that then the key to escape repeat until done that's literally the entire gameplay summed up.

Positives would be the artstyle and the price being cheap i guess? that's really it, but i don't recommend this game at all.

Cellar is a badly made 2D retro pixel action/puzzle game where you control a small girl who goes looking for her missing toys in the multilevel cellar of her house. No, houses are not like that. Gameplay consists of plotting your path on the grid like levels while searching for/collecting toys and avoiding the monster that is chasing you. It's a very shallow experience that's eclipsed by most video games, but thankfully there's less than 30 minutes gameplay... which is also another reason not to bother paying money for this.

From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.

There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.

The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.

Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the GameMaker Studio construction kit/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset favoured by amateur developers as it's cheap and requires little in the way of development skill, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. GameMaker Studio is most commonly used to make retro pixel shovelware and cash grabs.

A strong argument can be made that construction kits like GameMaker Studio should never be used to make games for profit, as the "developer", Vertical Skull Games has done here. These construction kits are intended to teach people some of the basic principles of game development, and to make small demos to pass around with friends. They're not intended to replace to actual work of real, professional game developers. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Cellar has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for finding the first toy, trivial to achieve, you can do this in less than 3 minutes, but less than 8 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.

Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 8 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who weren't even playing the game? Trading cards. Players will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.

Cellar is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.

This game features a number of suspicious, likely fake positive reviews. The reviews all appear at almost exactly the same time, within 24 hours after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and all have very similar wording and writing style. This is highly unusual given the very low quality of the game and poor player counts. The "Positive" review score on this game should be taken with a large grain of salt. This might be done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product.

What a waste of time. Cute graphics, but that's the only good thing I can say about this game. A girl runs through the endless dungeon her parents seem to have unter their home. The gameplay consists of running away from a big monster that appears without any reason. Of course there are also obstacles that kill you in a matter of seconds if you touch them.
Absolutely annoying and not at all what I expected.

Wir spielen die kleine Lily, die ihren Kuschelteddy ,,Blackbear´´ nicht mehr findet.
Nachdem wir den ersten Stock und das Erdgeschoss durchsucht haben, bleibt nur mehr der Keller.
Es gibt 8 Level, in jedem Level müssen wir einen Schlüssel finden. Haben wir diesen, kommt ein großes grünes Monster, welches uns verspeisen will. Unser Ziel ist dann die nächste Kellertür.
Die Schwierigkeit dabei ist, dass uns heißer Dampf aus Heizungsrohren abbremst, oder der Boden wegbricht und wir nicht mehr weiter kommen, ooooderrr uns so kleine Monster den weg versperren.

I would recommend this game for a younger audience. The levels and the experience are not overly fresh and repeat the same mechanics each time. It's not a long game, and the difficulty is not in exploring the mazes. The difficulty comes in planning the exit strategies and for getting timed achievements if your into that type of thing. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend if you are just interested in beating the game and moving on (especially if your older and can form those strategies without much effort).

Cellar is a horror game where you explore a dark and creepy basement.

Story:

You play as Lily. After you wake up and find your teddy bear missing, you venture down into the basement looking for it all while avoiding a large monster lurking down there. That's about as much as story as you're going to get in Cellar as it's not a really a story driven game, with the story just being there as a backdrop.

Graphics:

The pixel-esque art style Cellar uses is pretty decent, albeit not anything special and comes off as a bit boring at times. Mostly the dark and dreary basement, which all 8 levels all look pretty much identical with very minor additions to keep things fresh from level to level. I feel like since they already went for the unrealistic route, they should have included more outlandish stuff to make it a bit interesting from level to level.

Audio:

Cellar basically has no audio design apart from the music which is all royalty free tracks. It's rather disappointing how all of these tracks are re-used constantly and honestly I grew tired of the music before I even got midway through the game and considering how short the game is, it's not a good sign.

Gameplay:

The basic gist of Cellar is that it's a horror adventure game, where you navigate a maze which is your basement where you try to venture deeper to find your teddy. The door leading further down is often locked and you have to pick up a key, but as soon as you do, a monster starts chasing you intent on killing you, so you need to have a route planned out as soon as you pick up a key.

The game gets harder as you go on, with the levels getting bigger and adding more stuff for you to worry about like smaller monsters, valves that blow steam and floor tiles that collapse destroying a path for you. It does get complex, but not to the point where you will get stuck trying to figure out a way to advance.

I found the difficulty just right even though it does border on being pretty easy. I really enjoyed going through the levels and found figuring out a route to be a nice little challenge and sometimes it does get intense when the monster is right on your tail and the exit is just in your view.

Just like the main page states, there's only 8 levels which took me roughly 40 minutes to finish, but there is some other side stuff for you to do like finding other toys hidden in the basement, but these do nothing and are only there for the achievements you can collect.

Verdict:

Cellar is a small and short game, that you can finish in a single sitting and it's fine for what it is. I had fun with the 40 minutes it took me to finish, however if it went on for longer, I would have gotten sick of it pretty soon. It's rather easy and I wish there was more variety in levels and their designs, but what's here could still provide you with some fun.

[h1] Story [/h1] Wir spielen ein junges Mädchen namens "Lily" das ihren Geliebten Teddy Bären "Blackbear the Pirate" verloren hat. Nachdem Sie ihr Zimmer erfolglos durchsucht hat, gibt es nur noch einen Ort wo der Teddy sein kann und zwar im Finsteren Keller

[h1] Gameplay [/h1] Es gibt insgesamt 8 Level. In jedem Level haben wir das Ziel einen Schlüssel zu finden um damit die Verschlossene Tür zum nächsten Level zu öffnen. Hört sich ja simpel an, aber sobald wir den Schlüssel aufgenommen haben, werden wir von einem Riesigen Monster verfolgt. Außerdem gibt es einige andere Hindernisse wie z.B. Kaputte Röhre aus denen Dampf kommt, Kleine Monster die umher patrouillieren und einige Bodenplatten die hinter uns zusammen brechen. Werden wir getroffen, müssen wir das Level wieder von vorne anfangen. Es gibt in jedem Level auch Spielzeug zum sammeln (Nur für Achievements). Hat man das Spiel durchgespielt, schaltet man den Hardcore Modus frei. Es ist im Prinzip das selbe nur mit einem Zeitlimit. Die Musik ist dazu auch ganz ordentlich

[h1] Achievements [/h1] Es gibt insgesamt 15 Erfolge. Hierfür muss man das Spiel beenden ohne zu sterben, den Hardcore Modus beenden, alle Spielsachen finden und dann noch ein paar spezifische Erfolge wie z.B. das Spiel an irgend einem Feiertag starten z.B. an Weihnachten oder z.B. im Zweiten Level alle Bodenplatten brechen lassen usw.

鍵をとることで現れるLilyちゃんを追いかけてくる大きな化け物、目的があるのかないのか決まったルートを徘徊する子鬼（？）たち、蒸気を噴き出す壊れた配管に崩れる床…トラップをかいくぐりLilyちゃんをゴールに導きましょう。

ボリュームは値段相応。鍵を取るまではゆっくりマップを歩けるので難易度もそこまで高くはないかな？
ちょっとした時間で遊べる小粒ながらにいいゲームだと思いました。

The controls are bad, it's repetitive, and an unbearable sound effect plays whenever you die. I made it to level 6 of 8 and just couldn't bring myself to finish it. Not worth spending another minute on.

Yo lo flipo con los comentarios, ¿una cantidad ínfima de dinero? pero si el juego no llega al euro y tiene 30 minutos de diversión. ¿Cómo alguien puede considerar que le ha salido caro? 30 minutos por un euro... Sinceramente, a mí me ha parecido buen juego para su precio, evidentemente si el juego fuese más caro me quejaría y diría que es demasiado simple y tal, pero señores... A euro, a euro, que me lo quitan de las manos. Fuera de bromas, está entretenido y te lo pasas de una sentada. Merece la pena si necesitas un ratito de despejarte.

Boring. Dull. Repetitive.
The controls are just awful: it's a chase game, but your character moves in tiles. The visuals are uninspired (enemies all look like the same sad glob). The music is pathetic (and that death trombone, oh god).
Feels like a 15 years old flash game.

But it is pretty cheap, short, and you can get those steam cards...

Всем привет, я страстно люблю коротенькие игры, занимающие не более пары часов, но это личные предпочтения, которые мало кто разделяет. Сегодня поделюсь своим мнением по поводу игры Cellar, одобрительно подмигивающей моим вкусам.

Игра действительно коротка, я даже не могу точно назвать потраченное на прохождение время, ибо оно смешалось с монотонным идлом карточек. Наше приключение займет около часа, а если вы являетесь охотником на достижения, то увеличивайте сей запас времени в два раза.

Безнравственные родители оставили маленькую девочку одну дома, да не просто оставили, а на всю ночь! Эти пустоголовые люди не заперли двери в огромный подвал, кишащий уродливыми монстрами и зыбкими конструкциями. Либо родители заведомо планировали потерять единственного ребенка, либо телевизор истребил в них все сознание.

Непутевая девчонка просыпается посреди ночи и обнаруживает пропажу любимой игрушки. Конечно же в голову прилетают оригинальные идеи по поиску своего товарища в лабиринтах опасного подвала. Впитавшая умственные способности родителей, либо просто бесстрашная девочка обязана пройти ряд лабиринтов, попутно собирая иные игрушки, потерянные ранее. За побочные поиски вам будут выдавать достижения, но даже не надейтесь овладеть всеми трофеями за одно прохождение.

В подвале все слишком похоже, но подобный дизайн уровней играет на руку самой Cellar, ибо вам нужно изучить план каждой местности, найти запертые двери, ключ к ним, побочную игрушку, а затем уже приступать к цепочке последовательного выполнения плана. Если же вы схватите ключ без понимания карты, то заведомо обрекаете себя на провал задания. Ключик на каждом уровне оберегает самый страшный злодей, покрытый сгустками шерсти, а после похищения ключика он начнет преследовать девочку с такой пылкостью, что убежать от него можно исключительно с пониманием карты.

В игре приятная анимация, в меру забавный сюжет, хорошая музыка и интересный дизайн уровней, сводящий с ума своими коварными ловушками и перестановками. И все же игра коротка, а достижения заставят играть безошибочно, да еще и не один раз, посему я оставил бы нейтральную оценку, которой меня лишили.
15 рублей определенно не жалко на подобную забаву, приятной игры.

Хочу поблагодарить всех за отдачу и лайки, берегите нервы и избегайте шлака в магазине.

Gotta hand it to the makers, they made a pretty good game with limited resources. Only 8 levels in the game and three musical tracks, the game is still pretty solid and fun to play. The monster itself is a little overpowered since there's no real way to outrun it, but it goes with the nature of the game. Took about 20 minutes to beat. I recommend!

En Cellar nos pondremos en la piel de una niña pequeña, quien despierta en mitad de la noche y descubre con horror que su inseparable osito de peluche ha desaparecido. Un breve paseo por la casa le llevará al sótano, donde comenzará la acción. Allí, deberemos ir en busca del osito, recogiendo otros juguetes por el camino, buscando llaves, y escapando del ogro que aparecerá cuando tengamos la llave en nuestro poder.
Los gráficos y la banda sonora están bastante bien, sin ser tampoco brillantes. Acompañan correctamente, sin más.
La jugabilidad es buena. Sencillos controles y suavidad de movimientos que en seguida manejaremos con facilidad. La dificultad, bien trabajada, se mantiene siempre a un nivel no demasiado alto.
Sus ocho niveles, cada uno de ellos un sótano mayor que el anterior, hacen que el juego se me antoje demasiado corto. En dos o tres horas, conseguiremos acabarlo con todos los logros, e incluso en nivel difícil (con el handicap de tener tiempo limitado por nivel) sin demasiadas dificultades.
Así, cada uno de los puntos del título tiene un nivel aceptable y, juntos, conforman un todo bastante logrado. Pero la durabilidad, muy corta, hace imposible que me plantee una nota mayor. Recomendado, pero no un imprescindible.

Tedious and silly. I thought it was going to be a mildly spooky pixel game. Until I died the first time a cartoon death trombone smashed itself through my headphones,

Its a "you're being chased through a maze" game. I find time constraint/chase games annoying anyway since I like to have time to appriciate the art style and the story etc, so if you're the same you probably won't enjoy this much.

Короткая игра о блужданиях девочки по огромному подвалу-лабиринту в поисках пропавшего игрушечного медведя. Состоит из шести уровней, которые при должном везении можно пройти за 20-25 минут. Геймплей на каждом уровне строится вокруг поисков ключа и открывающейся им двери на выход; найти оба объекта лучше перед тем, как поднимать ключ, ибо сразу после этого за героиней начнет гоняться монстр (он движется немного быстрее девочки, поэтому игроку необходимо заранее знать кратчайший маршрут до двери).

Чтобы растянуть время геймплея, разработчики сделали так, что для получения хорошей концовки игрок должен пробежать финальный уровень с первой попытки, не попавшись подвальным монстрам - для этого он, естественно, должен хорошо разбираться в архитектуре крупного лабиринта, которая при этом сильно меняется под влиянием "сюжетного" землетрясения (активируется после подбора ключа, одновременно с началом погони от монстра). Сделать это на первом прохождении практически невозможно, поэтому охотникам за ачивками придется дойти до последнего уровня как минимум второй раз, ради шанса сделать все правильно в самом конце. Для тех, кто как следует изучил все лабиринты, предназначен режим "New Game +", предлагающий пройти игру от начала до конца без возможности перезагрузки уровня в случае проигрыша (т.е. "с одной жизнью").

Возможно, Cellar способна понравиться любителям игр-лабиринтов несмотря на монотонность и скоротечность, но ее геймплей не отличается глубиной, да и как "экспириенс" забывается она достаточно быстро (не спасает даже приятная пиксель-артовая графика, которая быстро приедается из-за постоянного реюза ассетов на каждом уровне). Совершенно необязательный проходняк, на который вроде и не жаль потратить полчаса при покупке в сезон скидок, вот только из-за отсутствия интересных геймплейных решений делать это абсолютно необязательно.

Интересный концепт, но игра сырая. Очень скучные, однообразные уровни с крижовым звуком во время поражения, после которого нужно все проходить заново. Гораздо лучше, если было 3-4 жизни, какие-то навыки и более интересные квесты вместо поиска ключа и убегания от огромного зеленого монстра. 19 рублей видимо хватило только чтобы придумать неплохой саундтрек и милую девчушку, можно было выжать что-то гораздо более глубокое, грустно!

Cellar – очень маленькая игра с простыми механиками. Маленькая девочка спускается в подвал, чтобы найти своего плюшевого мишку. На каждом из 10 уровней спрятана какая-то игрушка, ключ и дверь. Нужно найти игрушку, схватить ключ и убежать от большого монстра, преодолевая препятствия.

Игра для тех, у кого достаточно терпения проходить один и тот же уровень по 5-6 раз. Относительно приятная музыка, но зато невероятно раздражающий звук на Game over, есть проблемы с подсвечиванием предметов для сбора (не всегда понятно, это элемент декора или игрушка).

Нельзя назвать Cellar хорошей игрой – она скорее похожа на результат двухдневного геймджема, но и катастрофически плохого в ней ничего нет. Можно взять, если есть ненужный доллар.
