The Game is Basic, Boring, and Bland. There's no menu, no tutorial, nothing. The gameplay itself is lackluster, with next to no variation. I played about 20 minutes before getting bored, the rest of my playtime is just idling for the trading cards.
I paid 52 Cents and even at that price i would not say its worth it, I've played better flash games than this.

tipo de juego que parece simplecito al inicio, y a los 10 minutos ya te tiene atrapado como si fuera un ritual prohibido. Cartas, tableros llenos de horrores y una tensión constante porque cualquier turno puede ser el que te mande directo al abismo.
La idea es clara: evitar que las hordas lovecraftianas crucen tu mesa mientras gestionas recursos, invocadores, objetos y alguna que otra bendición que te salva el culo en el último segundo. Y aunque visualmente es básico, funciona perfecto para la vibra oscura y ritualista que maneja.
Lo mejor es esa sensación de “todo se está yendo al carajo, pero quizá si uso ESTA carta…” y de repente estás 20 minutos más luchando contra tentáculos, demonios y maldiciones que se reproducen como cucarachas.
Eso sí, el juego no perdona. Si te distraes, te hunde. Pero esa dificultad es parte del encanto: cada victoria se siente ganada a pulso.

I believe I picked this game up for .49 $ when it was on sale. An amount I can easily obtain through a weekly counter strike box being sold on the Steam Market place - which I'd say is a plus.
This game is simple, quick, and wastes absolutely non of the players time! In fact, there isn't even a menu! You simply launch the game and your in! Died? Here's what you unlocked - Next run let's go!
It provides a nice amount of challenge as well for being such a simple quick game. Highly recommend for less than a dollar!

Cards of Cthulhu — отличная инди-аркадная карточная игра для фанатов roguelike-карточек и атмосферных пиксельных ужастиков. Она подарит несколько напряжённых и динамичных игр с неплохим вызовом и задором.
Купил я эту игру давно.
Геймплей мне честно говоря, не особо понравился. Игра представляет собой исключительно цепочку случайных битв, в течение которых вы сражаетесь с монстрами, а в перерывах получаете карты, дающие новые атаки. Игра длится до тех пор, пока вас не убьют (насколько я понял). Вы в реальном времени тыкаете на способности, которые потом начинают снова заряжаться, и либо вы убиваете монстра, либо он вас.
Если бы игра была разнообразнее, и там было больше активностей, то ее можно было бы даже порекомендовать, а так - очень на любителя подобного, каковым я, в данном случае, не являюсь

Misturando elementos de jogos de cartas, estratégia e roguelike, o título entrega uma experiência rápida, dinâmica e com uma pitada de humor sombrio, claramente inspirado nos filmes de terror B.
A mecânica central é acessível. Você monta um deck de apenas 6 cartas, escolhidas entre um universo de 40 disponíveis, e parte para enfrentar criaturas bizarras na tentativa de resgatar sua namorada das garras do próprio Cthulhu. Na teoria, parece simplório — na prática, exige raciocínio rápido, improvisação e uma boa dose de estratégia.
O combate se destaca por ser extremamente ágil: suas cartas são sorteadas aleatoriamente e você precisa reagir quase instantaneamente, criando combos ou lidando com surpresas que o oponente pode trazer. É o tipo de jogo que te prende com aquela falsa promessa de "só mais uma partida".
No início, o jogo oferece um desafio considerável. A falta de familiaridade com as cartas, tanto suas quanto dos inimigos, obriga o jogador a pensar rápido, planejar bem e testar diferentes estratégias. Contudo, à medida que você aprende os padrões, reconhece as cartas dos monstros e entende quais combinações anulam certos poderes inimigos, o desafio diminui significativamente.
Montar um deck bem diversificado e com sinergia eficiente permite eliminar ameaças rapidamente, muitas vezes com poucas cartas na mão. Isso torna as partidas mais rápidas, porém, também expõe certa limitação na profundidade do desafio ao longo do tempo.
A essência roguelike funciona bem. A cada derrota, os inimigos se reorganizam, os desafios mudam e o jogo se mantém relativamente fresco. Felizmente, há progressão permanente, o que evita aquela sensação frustrante de recomeçar do absoluto zero — uma decisão acertada, que equilibra dificuldade e acessibilidade.
Porém, a baixa variedade de inimigos, especialmente perceptível nos modos mais difíceis (Heróico e Nightmare), compromete um pouco essa proposta. O aumento de dificuldade basicamente se resume a mudanças na paleta de cores, mais pontos de vida inimiga e alguns poderes extras, o que empobrece a rejogabilidade.
Apesar de divertido, Cards of Cthulhu é uma experiência totalmente singleplayer, o que levanta uma questão: por que não um modo multiplayer? Seja em combates PvP — que certamente trariam uma camada de desafio e competitividade — ou até um modo cooperativo, onde um segundo jogador controlaria a senhora do protagonista, quebrando o clássico e ultrapassado estereótipo da donzela em perigo.
Essa adição, além de inovar, traria frescor e diversidade à experiência, que hoje se limita a um único objetivo e uma progressão estritamente solo.
Se por um lado falta capricho no áudio — uma trilha sonora, quem sabe um bom rock instrumental, faria milagres aqui —, o mesmo não se pode dizer da arte. Os visuais são criativos, coloridos e transmitem perfeitamente o tom leve e sarcástico do jogo.
A jogabilidade é, sem dúvidas, o ponto mais forte: simples, mas com espaço para domínio. As cartas têm sinergias inteligentes, e cada partida exige que você pense rápido e aja melhor ainda. Errar um combo ou escolher mal suas cartas pode significar derrota imediata — e isso, longe de ser frustrante, torna-se um dos principais motores do vício no jogo.
Cards of Cthulhu não reinventa o gênero, mas faz muito bem aquilo que se propõe. É divertido, viciante e oferece um ótimo custo-benefício, especialmente considerando sua origem independente.
Peca na variedade de inimigos, na ausência de trilha sonora e na limitação ao modo solo, mas acerta em cheio na arte, na proposta de jogabilidade rápida e na mecânica roguelike bem aplicada.

Во имя пупка Ктулху, прошел раньше чем получил все карточки! А игра прикольная, карточки/скиллы где счёт идёт на секунды. Арт веселый но тока на эпичном качестве можно разглядеть все детали, но начинает лагать. Куда тут прикрутили анрил енжен я хз.
ПС раз есть карточки, то есть и смайлики! Рекомендую в коллекцию идеальных игр.

Pretty good gameplay loop for what it is. Cards have good synergy and the style is kind of cool. The showdowns can get pretty intense. Perfectly acceptable at the price it is at.

its ok, but the gameplay was meh, extremely unfair advantage to monsters once there starts to be more than 2 per wave because your cards dont refresh per monster, only between waves
if you get hit at all by monsters your just dead especially if they hit you with status effects such as poison or freeze, the only real way to win is to nuke the monster in under 3 seconds, but then you run out of cards for 2+ monster waves

[b] Досить непоганий та захоплюючий картковий батлер. Ви граєте за хлопця на мотоциклі в якого злий Ктулху вкрав кохану. Щоб звільнити її з лап монстра , Вам необхідно продертися через кілька десятків його посіпак і в кінці здолати його самого. По мірі проходження нам видають карти з різними ефектами + відкриваємо нові і так по колу , поки не здолаємо Ктулху. З одного боку в грі багато рандому , що підбішує , а з іншого боку якщо б його не було , гру можна б було пройти хвилин за 20. Гра не дуже-то і складна , навіть на Heroic та Nightmare режимах (котрі відкриваються після повного першого та другого проходження) , але через рандом можуть виникнути труднощі. Це як Вам поталанить. Музики як такої в грі нема , а от арти дуже непогані.
Якщо Ви коли-небудь хотіли спробувати ігри цього жанру , то ця гра , на мою думку , буде непоганим початком. За своі 26 грн. (13 грн. якщо зі знижкою) у неї достатньо контенту і , я думаю , Ви не розчаруєтесь після її придбання. [/b]

Fun casual collectable card battle game. I played for around 1.5 hours and just beat Cthulhu. You can play more if you like and collect more cards and defeat harder modes. I'm guessing it would take around 5 hours to obtain all the achievements.

+ The art style and monsters are really colorful and well drawn, original designs
+ Lots of cards to collect, intricate fast paced battle system, you have to think and act quick
+ Lots of value for only $1, hours of gameplay
+ Good sense of progression, never stuck, always unlocking new stuff
- The monsters are not H.P Lovecraft designs, the last boss is a funny looking Cthulhu but the rest of the monsters are just original monsters. Would have been better to include Dagon, Nyarlathotep etc...
- If you don't get the right cards, its nearly impossible to win
- Sometimes the battles can be a bit too fast paced, causing you to accidentally play the wrong card

The game is truly remarkable considering its price. It took me a mere 5 hours to complete, but the enjoyment and challenge it provided were well worth the money. The art is visually appealing and the synergies between different elements of the game are quite fun. Despite being inexpensive, it is undeniably an enjoyable game. Additionally, the art is quite impressive, with some characters being particularly attractive. On one occasion, my mother walked in while I was playing and she found it fascinating that I could shoot a fireball at Cthulhu (she occasionally indulges in Lovecraftian media). This fast-paced game can easily fill your time slots while waiting for your friends to join. The art is truly exceptional as well.

I am 32 years old.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

A short but challenging deck building card game. The main bosses are fought in a fixed order so the challenge lies in preparing for them by acquiring cards that synergize well together as well as picking options that counter the boss' special abilities. Weirdly enough it is also real time and therefore you will need to properly chain cards together or time a counter right.

For $1 you end up fighting Cthulhu with hairy legs, a beer belly and probably drunk. 10/10

Instrucciones
1. Calienta el aceite en una sartén grande y fríe la cebolla y el pimiento hasta que estén suaves.
2. Agrega los frijoles, bien escurridos, y fríe de tres a cinco minutos. Agrega un poco del caldo de cocción, si ves que están quedando muy secos.
3. Incorpora el arroz y sigue friendo unos tres minutos más agregando un poco más de caldo de frijoles para que el gallo pinto no quede muy seco y finalmente adorna con culantro picado.

[b]Игра за пригоршню монет, которая могла стать хорошим рогаликом.[/b] Да, Cards of Cthulhu это по истине мобильная игра, в которую можно залипнуть по пути на работу, одной рукой держась за поручень, а другой изредка тыкая в смартфон, смотреть на это величие в стиме уж извольте.
Наша задача пробраться через 4 территории с врагами и встретиться с старым добрым ктулху. Двигаемся по карте мы автоматически, все что остается игроку, это раз в 4-5 минут выбирать одну из двух карт и участвовать в боях.
Бои представляют собой карточный батлер, у нас на руках 3 карты и еще пару штук мы тянем из колоды, наш персонаж каждую секунду делает выстрел из обреза и наносит 1 урон. Задача раскидать все карты и с помощью оных победить оппонента.
Казалось бы, отличная формула, собирай себе комбинации карт, с умом высвобождай руку, все это делай быстро, еще и следи за картами противника, но есть одно большое НО. Карт мало, открываются они крайне неспешно, бои против одних и тех же нпс, с одинаковыми атаками. И самая большая проблема. Тут нет сложных и комплексных карточных комбо, ваш максимум это воспользоваться картой, которая наносит переодический урон, и кинуть карту, которая усиливается, если на враге висит дебаф от первой. Как итог, у нас на руках 1 - 2 простых компбинации и остальные карты мы просто кидаем когда удобно.
[b]Вариативности нет, прогрессия утомительная, комплексных комбинаций нет, визуал скудный. Эту игру даже стоимость в 1 доллар не спасает. [u]Не рекомендую.[/u][/b]

"Cards of Cthulhu" is not any kind of deep, rich cardgame/deckbuilder... it's more like a QTE/clicker mobile app/browser game. The screenshots show the entire game at a glance... there's a barely animated background, the "combat" is just a matter of clicking on cards that have different damage characteristics until your enemy is dead (you also do some autodamage ticks). Killing a monster gets you a new card, that's it. I guess thematically there's nothing to do with H.P. Lovecraft's works here, it's unclear why the developer decided to insult everyone by pretending it has anything to do with Cthulhu.
So this is an incredibly shallow game (worth mentioning that games like Magic the Gathering: Arena and Hearthstone are free to play, this costs money for 1/100th of what you could get for free), and it's matched by an equally weak technical implementation.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals.
The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just point and click stuff like a browser/Flash game. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here.
For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just 2D static images... it might as well be a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. "Cards of Cthulhu" has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for for killing 5 enemies (about 15-20 mouse clicks), trivial to achieve, but less than 4 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 4 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who weren't even playing the game? Trading cards. Players will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
"Cards of Cthulhu" is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.

Gran juego de cartas, es muy entretenido ya que tu mismo tienes que formar tu propio mazo con las cartas que te dan para eligir y ingeniártelas para derrotar a tus enemigos. Pero el gran enemigo del juego no son los propios enemigos, eres tu mismo ya que como dice el juego << el exceso de confianza es el enemigo mas poderoso ya que te mata muy lentamente>>. En conclusión Cards of Cthulhu es un gran juego al que hay que jugar si te gustan los juegos de cartas y creación de mazos, ademas un juego que hay que apoyar porque a simple vista puedes ver el cariño y el esfuerzo que le han dedicado ha este juego, ojala hicieran mas juegos así 10/10.
The game was less than a dollar on sale. For this price, the game is amazing. Took 5 hours to complete it, and the fun/challenge provided was far than worth the money.
It's a small, short but challenging deckbuilder card game. Each time you restart, you build a new deck from randomly selected cards. You unlock more cards to pick from and some powers by playing the game, There are 3 difficulty modes to complete, the last one was the most challenging and required me to know every card in the game.
There is no story, lore or dialogues - only gameplay. A bonus tip - you can play cards not only by clicking them, but also by pressing 1,2,3 on the keyboard.
The game is supposed to be completed in 1-2 evenings, and there is nothing much to do afterwards. The funniest thing was after I had beaten max difficulty - the game wrote "You won!" and just closed itself :D
