Garbage, spent some time adjusting map settings just to find out the game crashes while initializing a new map, can't play at all. Didn't spot any hints of a tutorial mode, not sure if this locked behind my first playthrough - which I apparently can't start. Overall bad experience and a waste of money so far. REFUND. May retry in the future when it's more polished.

While it's great to play through once, there's not much replay value as the map doesn't really matter much to how your factory develops. Now with EA DLC, it looks like they've lost their way and the v1.0 will not be a full game but rather just whatever subgame they couldn't pack into separate DLCs. Cannot recommend unless the functional DLC nonsense is reversed and trust restored.

I was looking forward to trying electrified trains for my next play through but hit a wall when I realised I had to pay again for that privilege. This is not my understanding of how EA works - in exchange for our play testing / feedback / bug reports we get "free" updates so that new players get a more polished end product.

I'd rather the price of the base game increase a few quid for each update instead of the slippery slope of asking existing customers to keep forking out for a non-cosmetic DLC with actual new game mechanics.

Sadly this has left a bad taste in my mouth enough to hold of playing this game again.

Game is really good and scratched that factory game itch that I have.

But for the life of my I cannot recommend this game on 2 premise.
1: Paid DLC with somewhat important while game is still in Early Access, that makes me think the devs think more about the cash than the game itself
2: Devs begging the community on discord to leave positive reviews so the negative ones like mine (about the paid DLCs) get flushed out...

I understand the premise of "we need more money" for the project, it happens but game has been released in EA for almost 4 years and they are only on content update 4. So 1 content dump per year.... Devs are taking forever to push anything out.
They are obviously more concerned about releasing a paid DLC while game isn't even in 1.0. This action si complete BS and I can't fathom people that try defending the devs behavior behind that decision. If it were cosmetic or some other minor change sure but not here.

I wasn't really that bothered about the trains dlc thing at first but it's the way they're handling it that's bothering me now, and the vicious defense force of other players strawmanning critics. All these sudden positive reviews saying "no the game is good we swear"? The devs specifically asked for people to do those in their discord. People saying "these greedy gamers want everything for free"? It's early access. We bought a video game expecting to get the whole thing when it's done. EA is not a kickstarter or a funding program, and even if it was, if someone ran a kickstarter and then said "sorry we need more money here's more features for $10 for the game that isn't out yet," there would be uproar. Come on.

And no, playtime hours do not equal value. I don't care how many times people say it, but you're absolutely allowed to disapprove of a game whether you've put 1 hour into it, 4000 hours, or anywhere in between. Because we live in a world where games change over time and how long you've played it in the past has no bearing whatsoever on how good the game is in the present or future.

Anyway, the game is alright. I honestly bounce off of it every time I try playing it around the point that advanced oil processing unlocks, so I have no experience with the later game, but I think [i]conceptually[/i] it's one of the most interesting "factory games" I've played. Unfortunately development has been exceptionally sluggish and it doesn't really feel like they have a solid grasp of what the game needs to go from EA to launch. Sure, it was technically finishable from the start, but the majority of their content updates have felt like things that should have been in the game from the start. I'll never understand how games in this genre can launch thinking they'll have no need for things like vertical lifts or trains. When they really put their minds to it, they made a really impressive train system, at that. And the bridges, I mean - yeah, one of the advertised features from the start was using terraforming to fill land bridges, but I always thought it would be bizarre if that was the only way to do it, without any real structural bridges over the water, especially on that big C-shaped map.
I could go on but the other lengthy negative reviews have covered the important things, I think. I just don't want this game to be another one that squanders its potential.

Bought this game a while ago. Just saw that they are still "2-4 years" out from completion because they want it to be feature complete. They are also selling DLC which expands upon trains. If this is something that is core to trains they have no business to be selling it to people who bought into early access to complete it. If it's not core then they have no business working on DLC while they're still 2-4 years out from 1.0. What a shame.

之前就有个DLC带个地图我就不说了（毕竟本身地图就比较多），难道上次的那个DLC是测试玩家的耐受度嘛？

COI is a resource production and management game where you mine, harvest and trade resources from your island to advance through a tech tree. The scope for expansion is massive and you can completely terraform your island on your way to building huge production factories with impressive logistics. You can also play through by fighting fires and failing to turn potatoes into oil like me. There’s an interesting level of complexity and micro available for players who want a tighter control over their resources too.

The devs have released several updates since I bought it which have always added something functional and that adds to the time I've wanted to invest in the game. They’re very active with patches and clearly care about the game. There’s a great discord community and the islands people show on there are insanely impressive. I was definitely inspired to make a huge oil refining district only to have my spirit crushed because I’m bad.

There are a lot of negative reviews as they released a paid DLC when it's in early access. The DLC is optional and was released along with another update which introduced bridges and amphibious vehicles. I've not played either yet, but the update will be great for the gameand the DLC is definitely a cool addition to the existing trains. The game doesn’t feel like an EA game in terms of size and gameplay and is already good value for money with active devs who give the impression they want to continue to improve the game.

Overall, COI is a very rewarding experience that you can enjoy investing time into.

A fantastic factory sim. The combination of deformable terrain and vehicles is fascinating and different. Production chains are complex and full of ways to optimize performance.

However.
The decision to release functional content as a paid DLC while remaining Early Access has decimated my confidence in these Devs.

From the Dev's own EA statement:
"[DLC] will be niche additions and not required for the main experience."
"The full release is planned to be feature complete with a finished progression & endgame..."

Logically this means that DLC content is meant to be things that are not considered core features. I would argue that, for a factory sim, logistics is the whole point of the game. Efficiently get product A to point B, product B to point C, and so on. Therefore, alternate fuel trains and the ability to ship molten materials absolutely should be considered a core feature of the game. Treating it as 'niche' and 'not required' is counter to the spirit of the entire genre.

Semantics aside, I feel like this behavior is predatory and intentionally takes advantage of the most devoted fans. They could have created some kind of cosmetic pack. Vehicle skins, more road materials, seasonal map themes, UI skins... I could go on. They did not. I understand that these things would have taken development time and effort, but I strongly believe it would have been worth it. A good cosmetic pack would absolutely sell well among the core players while also maintaining positive community sentiment. This decision to cordon off content that was almost certainly originally intended to be part of the core game is in poor taste. It demonstrates a desire to extract money from the install base with minimal effort and sets a bad precedent.

Avoid.

I am sick and tired of Early Access games. Developers are no longer using it as a means to finetune a game using community feedback and are instead abusing it to fund meandering projects with no concrete goal or vision in mind. I really believe that Valve should impose a time limit on EA status of 2 years at most. Devs need to shrink their scope to something they can handle, rather than coasting on optimism, goodwill, and DLC. If you want to crowd fund your project, go use Kickstarter or something. EA was never supposed to be a method of funding.

Now they put some content behind an additional paywall. They call it DLC, but during EA this is very bad style. I did not get what I payed for. Publishers with this practice should be banned from Steam EA!

Really good game, I’ve spent quite a few hours playing it.
But having a DLC that doesn’t only contain cosmetic stuff feels really strange.
Melted/liquid goods can only be transported by trains if you have the DLC.

I understand that the developers need to make money, and that’s totally fine, but actual game mechanics shouldn’t be locked behind it.

Este juego esta recomendadísimo si te gusta la gestión de fabricas pura, llevo 220 hora de momento y aun no he disfrutado de todo el contenido, cada vez que lo actualizan siguen mejorando y añadiendo objetos que son una maravilla para el gameplay, da gusto juegos con un desarrollo como este teniendo en cuenta como esta hoy en dia el genero de los videojuegos y el dlc (aunque yo lo huevera llamado suporter pac 2 para evitar discusiones innecesarias) merece mucho la pena si te gustan los trenes.

This is an incredible game, one of my favourites ever - and one of my most played. This is a big-picture systems design game. It is perfect for me, and maybe for you too.

I think its the best of the genre. It's a dynamic system factory/ colony builder game with terraforming, by-products, and even potential death spirals because of your failures of design and management. Very deep game but fun for however long you play it. It’s my preferred game in this style because of the RTS perspective that respects your time.

You start building things like iron / copper production but move on to needing to improve energy systems, build compute capacity, launch space stations, You can even build a circular/pollution free economy. It’s very open ended system with few right answers if any - just that the factory and population much grow ( or maybe not?).

I really like how it handles compute. I long ago mused about a system for planning and compute for workers and resources soviet republic game that never was implemented. However, this game did something I really like along the same vein here where excess pops can be used in offices to provide bonuses and some research/production requires compute. A planners dream.

It’s a great game. Feedback loops upon feedback loops. You truly will be dreaming about this one.

DLC PRZED wersją 1.0? Serio, jak to zobaczyłem, to mnie zmroziło. Branża gier jest wystarczająco popsuta zagrywkami w stylu EA, by pozwalać na coś takiego. Co będzie dalej? Może zacznijcie sprzedawać już nowy tytuł, zanim go w ogóle zaprojektujecie? Najlepiej w formie lootboxów, to jest teraz modne.
Szanowni twórcy - najpierw ukończcie produkt, w który zainwestowali i któremu zaufali gracze. Dajcie im w 100% to, za co zapłacili. A potem myślcie o ewentualnym zbieraniu dodatkowych profitów i dojeniu.

A miałem Was za porządnych gości. Już wiem, że gdzieś tam na górze siedzi u Was typ aspirujący do miana pogromcy Paradoxu. I że na przyszłość tej gry padł cień jego chciwej łapy.

Ich mag das Spiel wirklich, und genau deshalb ist die aktuelle Richtung für mich schwer nachvollziehbar.

Das Grundspiel ist im Early Access und zwar gut aber noch nicht fertig, Mechaniken fehlen oder sind nur halb umgesetzt und trotzdem wird bereits DLC in der Early Access veröffentlicht.

Viele der Inhalte, die jetzt als DLC erscheinen, gehören meiner Meinung nach ins Hauptspiel, solange es sich noch im EA befindet. Early Access sollte bedeuten, dass zuerst das Fundament steht, bevor man Zusatzpakete verkauft.

Ich habe den DLC gekauft, aber ganz ehrlich: Das war das letzte Mal, solange die Prioritäten so gesetzt werden. und trotzdem werden bereits DLCs veröffentlicht.

Für mich gehört es zur Grundlogik von Early Access, dass zuerst das Fundament steht, bevor man zusätzliche Inhalte verkauft.

Besonders irritierend ist der Kontrast zwischen dem, was der Modder liefert, und dem, was vom Entwickler kommt. Der Modder erweitert das Spiel massiv, verbessert Systeme und füllt Lücken, während der Entwickler gleichzeitig DLCs veröffentlicht, obwohl zentrale Baustellen im Grundspiel noch offen sind. Das fühlt sich nach falschen Prioritäten an. Viele der Features, die jetzt als DLC erscheinen, wirken wie Mechaniken, die eigentlich ins Hauptspiel gehören sollten, solange es sich noch in der EA‑Phase befindet.

Wenn der Entwickler klar zeigt, dass die Entwicklung des Grundspiels wieder im Mittelpunkt steht und nicht in eine DLC‑Schiene in der EA abdriftet, ändere ich meine Bewertung gerne. Das Spiel hat Potenzial aber die aktuelle Monetarisierung im EA ist für mich ein falsches Signal. aber die aktuelle Richtung ist für mich als frühen Käufer schwer nachvollziehbar.

El juego es la justo lo que me faltava en satisfactory y factoruio para suicidarme, en temas de profundidad y mecanicas, tengo aprox 200h en una save y no voy ni por la mitad es droga pura acabas con un sistema que a la media hora esta obsoleto por calcular a la baja, estoy enganchado la update 4 es mas adictiva que la 3 y con diferencia se nota que mas pulida también, es enganchante crear un chernobyl cada vez que intento crear una centrar nuclear, los trenes son intuitivos y muy fáciles de crear lo que no quiere decir que acabes con un spageti de vias que no sabes que coño hacen ahí y mira que yo mismo las ♥♥♥♥. 10/10

Фиг знает чё все так развонялись на ДЛС. Поезда из длс - просто альтернатива. Там нет поезда, который был бы однозначно лучше, чем дизельный/водородный из основной игры. Базовыми поездами можно достичь всего того-же, чего и альтернативными.

A Very very good game, very few issues given it is E/A.
One of the best E/A games i ever bought, not perfect but so.....
For any "oldster's" like me out there that spent a childhood
playing in the dirt with "dinky" toys and Tonka trucks..
This is a must. Best dirt moving sim i ever played... AND,
you can build a giant industrial complex AND a city..
It also has space rockets...

The game mechanics are excellent across the board. Everything feels thoughtfully designed and genuinely fun to interact with. Everything fits together in a way that makes expanding your factory both challenging and satisfying.

As a huge lover of Factorio, I actually bounced off of this game the first time I played it as the lack of conflict made me feel that it was missing something. However during update 3 I retried and you can see my hours now. I will still always choose Factorio over this game, but for those who need something similar, yet different, this game is insanely good for that next factory game.

You don't have bugs, you have complex resource chains.
You don't have to optimize, but you get rewarded for doing so. Standard oil ok, but going through all the cracking and processing gets you more oil and more side products to use elsewhere.
You do have terraform options with land shaping, mountain clearing, which is cool to see and a very chill piece to see a forested bumpy land slowly become a nice flat barren field to expand your factory
You do have unlimited science, and space stations and all that same post-end game goodies

So I'm leaving this review, as what is currently in the game could easily be considered 1.0, but they're still adding more things. They have recently added a paid DLC which I can easily understand causing sour feelings as this is still officially early access, but the content that is already in the game, and the reasonable pace that they are continuing to push out updates makes it an easy buy for me. To support the devs, and to have more tools that I could use.

Again, trains were never part of the initial game plan, but they added them due to high demand, and even now, they could be still safely ignored as you have plenty of tools that work just fine. The trains currently in the game for no additional cost are still very valid for full end game.

If you see the other reviews, even the new negative ones, you'll see that the hours played are fairly insane for many of the players. I point this out, as for the price point, they could have stopped updating even back in update 3 and everyone would have easily gotten the value from the game, but they didn't. They still keep rocking.

So yeah, paid DLC is a bit icky, but they could have also stopped updating months ago and I would have still had more hours per dollar than many of my other games, so I bought it to continue supporting the devs to make more amazing features and things. (Please tunnels?!??)

Automation game that 100% deserving your attention.

The game has been fully in playable state for 3 years now and it continues to improve. The developers provide the best updates in the world, they don't add any unnecessary features, only what makes the game even better.

==Here is a list of topics where the game is successful (imo)==

Terrain: The landscape customization in this game is done extremely well. You don't just use a certain currency to instantly edit the landscape, but you use vehicles and create designations to dig useful resources and dump unnecessary ones.

Settlement: You build a factory not only for technological advancement, but also to provide the city with supplies in return for bonuses that can be used to improve your production/logistics, etc.

Production: Relatively simple recipes at the beginning and more complex and interconnected recipes towards the end. Metals, Fuel, Oil, Chemicals, Food, Goods, Electronics, Parts, etc. Buildings require workers to operate, so your production is limited by the current settlement size, so keep that in mind.

Logistics: trucks, trains, conveyor belts, pipes. Trucks are convenient, but they use a lot of fuel and maintenance. Trains use much less fuel and maintenance, but require extensive infrastructure. Belts are good for short distances.

Waste Management: Recycle scrap metal into metals. Dump trash into the ocean or burn it. Filter wastewater to produce clean water. Recycling can give you back some of the resources or reduce pollution. Water is an important resource in this game, first use rainwater, later desalinize seawater.

Trading: You can enter into contracts with other islands to exchange one type of resource for another using a cargo ship. This is not required, but can provide a unique playstyle if you choose to use it.

Interesting Endgame: There's a lot to optimize and achieve in this game. A space program to attract asteroids, infinity technologies to optimize, building offices to accumulate bonuses. Each option requires a different approach and resources.

在EA阶段添加涉及到玩法的DLC我认为是无法接受的。火车是U3和U4两个更新都涉及的内容，应该属于一个相对核心的内容。但高等级的火车却放在DLC里，这基本上就相当于废掉了这一个玩法（事实上U3后火车并没有普及开，也是因为它各方面没有明显优势——如果有优势的话）

我可以接受的在EA阶段的DLC：
1. 额外的资源设定集，比如音乐美术
2. 不影响玩法和数值的前提下的皮肤。对于CoI来说我觉得地图也可以
3. 与目前主线玩法完全独立的新玩法。例如戴森球DSP加入战斗我是可以接受作为独立DLC的（在不打乱主线和现有的平衡的前提下）

Ich habe nun gut 520 Stunden in COI verbracht, es wären mehr hätte ich nicht (absichtlich) immer mal wieder Pausen eingelegt. Ich verfolge die Entwicklung seit es auf Steam verfügbar ist und bin mit jedem großem Update immer wieder aufs neue überrascht wie hochwertig das Spiel mit Inhalten versorgt wird.

COI ist nur am Label ein Early-Access, wenn die sich für eine 1.0 entscheiden könnten die es jetzt schon tun und es würde dem Spiel kein Abbruch tun. Die Qualität der Inhalte und auch die Menge der gelieferten Inhalte ist sehr hoch, sowas findet man heute kaum noch.

Das Spiel bietet viel Umfang und kommt dabei mit sehr wenigen Bugs aus, eine Kombination die man so heute kaum noch findet. Dazu ein günstiger Preis der viele Stunden Spaß bereithält.

Jetzt mit Update 4 muss ich aber mal eine Review hinterlassen, einfach auch als kleines positives Feedback zur Unterstützung der super Arbeit der Entwickler. Mit Update 4 fange ich nun auch wieder ein neues Spiel an da wieder einige neue und interessante Mechaniken hinzugekommen sind.

Es gibt kostenpflichte DLC was wohl bei einigen sauer aufstößt da es sich ja laut Beschreibung um einen EA-Titel handelt. Ich sehe in dem Spiel nicht nur einfach eine EA-Version, es ist auch jetzt schon ein vollwertiges Spiel was einfach noch unter dem Label des EA stetig weiterentwickelt und verbessert wird.

Klare Empfehlung für jeden der sich mit dieser Art Spiel anfreunden kann, das mögliche/nötige Terraforming gibt dem Spiel die nötige Würze um sich unter die Top-Spiele dieser Art platzieren zu können.

I bought the game, the "Supporter DLC" and even the Soundtrack (which I rarely buy).
I believed in the game and the vision of the developer. I supported you guys.

They now published a DLC, with expanded game mechanics for trains. They locked game mechanics behind this DLC. Now such an expansion could be interesting, if the game would be actually finished.

But instead of finishing the game they did this cash grab DLC (technically the 3rd DLC) for this.
All while the game is still in Early Access.

The Developers betrayed my trust in them. I wont ever touch this again.
Game is now uninstalled and on ignore.

DO NOT Add paid gameplay DLC onto a game that has not even been full released out of early access.
Ridiculous practice. Immediately changed this game from a highly recommend to an absolute nope.

The only way I'd ever consider giving another single dollar to this company is if they hard reverse their decision, refund everyone that bought the DLC, release the content as part of the base game, finish the already existing roadmap of features, and never again think about doing this asinine practice.

EDIT: I'd like to say that the discussions happening right now are incredibly toxic and irrational. I recognize that the supporters of the product are happy with their purchase. I'm not saying you can't be. I'm not saying you didn't get good value out of it. I'm not even saying that the game isn't worth the cost of the base + DLC. None of that is my criticism. You're all perfectly free to feel like you got your moneys worth, and want to give more to support the developers, none of that is a problem, I don't disagree with you as a value proposition.

My only criticism is that the people who already paid the price of the base game in Early Access are legitimately entitled to the full product on release, as advertised and implicitly promised during Early Access. That label means "The game is not fully developed yet, and when you purchase the game you are buying both access to the game right now as is, and the full game on release as advertised in this roadmap of features, some of which may not get fully developed as we progress, but we're certainly not going to develop the advertised feature and segregate it out to make you pay for it again." It was a blatant cash grab to have the paid DLC that separated meaningful gameplay features, especially while the game still isn't finished.

The people who are using personal insult to dismiss the dissenting opinions are disgusting people. You are so beholden to your fanboy apologetics that you're demonizing other people who have not just a difference of opinion, but have legitimate criticism of the dishonest practices. If any big corporation engaged in this practice you'd all be criticizing it the same as we are here, it's just different now because you like THIS game, THIS company. I criticize the practice on principle, and I'm not willing to make flimsy excuses for it just because I want these people to like me.

Also note that the review ratio for this game is no longer reliable. They have pushed out requests to their community to artificially raise the Yes recommendations as a counter to the recent wave of dislikes, and after their greedy DLC practice the number of No reviews will be lower because people who won't condone that practice will not give them the money necessary to leave a negative review. The practice is condemned by many more people who just can't be represented by the ratio. So making the argument that the reviews of all time are more yes than the recent no votes isn't a valid argument in favor of the practice.

А вот если вам по душе тщательнейшая проработка технологических процессов, то здесь это сделано на высшем уровне. Если сравнивать Капитана с флагманом жанра — Факторио, то в последнем значительно больше автоматизации процессов при значительно большем количестве условностей. В Капитане практически нет нужды в автоматизации, поскольку при продуманной и отлаженной логистике все и так работает как часы.
Будучи ветераном Факторио (свыше тысячи часов), ставлю Капитана на первое место в жанре по следующим причинам:
- высочайший реализм;
- значительно больше продукции, при этом вся она необходима и задействована;
- головоломно сложные технологические цепочки;
- альтернативы в производстве, добыче и доставке продукции;
- наличие поселения, которое не для галочки, но является частью технологического процесса и постепенно становится неотъемлемой частью промкомплекса.
С учетом того, что игра еще в раннем доступе, в ней уже предостаточно содержимого для полноценного и интересного развития поселения. Приятная графика и солидные площади карт не особо нагружают машину, что говорит об отличной оптимизации. Очень качественное произведение, достойное почетного места в коллекции экономических симуляторов.

DLC during EA, in the current climate, is just tone-deaf.

Need cash? Do cosmetics or something. Fans of the game can purchase to support.

I mean the game already has a supporter pack AND a soundtrack for people to support?

Accounting for scope, regardless, the work has to (one would hope) be QA'ed, etc. They, of course, would not JUST take "Artistic Time." Their pinned comment just doesn't seem truthful, especially if you work in software/game dev.

Finish the damn game before doing DLC.

c'est un très bon jeu pour les fans du genre c'est clair.
pour le moment je n'ai que deux remarques négatives :
1 la musique, sans âme, à simplement le mérite d'exister. pour moi c'est un gros problème.
2 les DLC. alors oui, beaucoup de jeux de gestion ont des DLC qui ajoutent des mechaniques et du contenu. le problème pour moi c'est que ce n'etais pas annoncé à la base. j'ai acheté le jeu en early access pensant acheter un jeu complet. donc sauf erreur de ma part, si je veux jouer au jeu complet, il va falloir investir plus que ce qui etait prévu à la base. c'est pas l'argent le problème, c'est le principe

Sorry, I really like the game. But releasing a paid DLC with actually game relevant content when the game is still in early access is just sh*tty business.

While I definitely want the game to be finished too, it shouldn’t be the responsibility or on the dime of the people who already bought the game, along with the unwanted risk of it not getting finished.

It is the responsibility of the company to budget themselves to complete their contracts and what they sold. Otherwise it will completely undermine and kill the spirit of early access (what it stands for imho, not the legalese that companies want to use to absolve themselves of any responsibility), namely that a game can be developed with the help and wishes of the gamers so it will be an awesome game.

Anybody that says early access means risk for the buyer that it might not get finished completely betrays the customers trust and ruins the instrument for future indies.

I want to start by saying that I genuinely love this game. I’ve put a lot of time into it and I wouldn’t be writing this if I didn’t care about the project or want to see it succeed. Captain of Industry is one of the most engaging factory/management games I’ve played in a long time, and it’s clear the developers have put a lot of thought and passion into building its systems.

However, I strongly disagree with the decision to release DLC while the game is still in Early Access.

This isn’t a criticism unique to this game or this studio — it’s something I feel strongly about across the entire industry. Whether it’s an indie developer, a AA studio, or a AAA publisher, I believe the same principle should apply: finish the base game first, then think about DLC.

Early Access exists so developers can complete and refine the core experience with the support of the community. When players buy into Early Access, they’re effectively investing in the development of the base game with the understanding that the priority is getting it to a complete 1.0 release.

Releasing paid DLC before that point sends the wrong message. It gives the impression that development resources are being split away from finishing the core game, even if that isn’t actually the case internally. From a player’s perspective, it can feel like content that could have been part of the base game is instead being carved out and sold separately while the main product is still unfinished.

I fully understand that additional funding can help support development, especially for smaller studios. I don’t doubt that the developers care about the game and want to continue improving it. But in my opinion, selling DLC during Early Access is not the right way to go about it.

There have been far too many examples in the industry where games enter Early Access, begin selling additional content, and then remain unfinished for years — or worse, never reach a proper full release. I’m not saying that will happen here, and I sincerely hope it doesn’t. Captain of Industry deserves to be completed and polished into the incredible full release it has the potential to become.

But the principle still matters.

When players purchase an Early Access game, they’re putting trust and belief in the project being finished. The focus should remain on delivering a complete, polished core game before introducing paid expansions.

Again, I want to be clear: this criticism comes from someone who genuinely enjoys the game and wants it to succeed. My issue isn’t with the quality of the game or the developers’ talent — it’s with the broader practice of releasing DLC during Early Access.

Finish the game. Bring it to a proper 1.0 release. Once the base experience is complete, I would be far more than happy to support additional DLC and expansions.

But until then, I strongly believe the priority should be finishing the game we all bought into first.

Great game, happy to buy a DLC even if its in early access since the content was not on the roadmap but rather something the community wanted. The base game wasn't even supposed to have trains and the devs added them upon request. Now they release an inexpensive DLC for lategame flavor content so people who are into it/want to support the devs can buy it. Anybody else isn't really missing out on anything that was ever planned. Meanwhile the base game comes along nicely with frequent and big updates.

As someone with many thousands of hours across the automation genre, Captain of Industry is my favourite.

Starting out with the logistics bot equivalent (trucks) that has low throughput but high flexibility, then balancing this by having recipes that are more complex and more byproduct interlinked than in other games is a great design choice. It also creates the main 'threat' in this game of death spirals due to some small ingredient running out and cascading across the recipe web to grind your industry to a halt and start starving your workers.

It's also a happy medium aesthetically and gameplay wise between factorio's almost too gamey 2d nature, and the infinite architectural decision paralysis of satisfactory. buildings are built on a 2d grid, but you have 6 levels of vertical height to run your logistics transports (conveyors,pipes etc) through, and it's very satisfying to use the conveyor/pipe route pathfinder to make delicious spaghetti.

The building models look really industrial and the required scale isn't all that high, but there's quite a lot of different buildings for various chains. This makes a lot of the bases I've built look pretty cool without trying, avoiding the 'endless rows of the same copy-pasted building model' feeling I often get in other games of the genre.

The terrain deformation is also neat, allowing for grid-based building placement but without the ugliness of a fully voxel-based environment, and obviously making a giant open pit mine or filling in the ocean has its own appeal as well.

Overall, if you like automation games or transport games, this one is a highlight of the genre and I would emphatically recommend.

I've owned this game for quite a while but haven't played it very much because I don't want to play an Early Access game. I want to support the developers making games I think have a lot of promise, but I want to play a finished game. I do make some exceptions, like Dyson Sphere Program, so I have intended to do a deep dive into this.

I'm not aware of whatever has gone on before now, I don't know what kind of discussion there has been about this train DLC. But having paid DLC that has actual game content, not just cosmetic stuff, available for purchase for an Early Access game is frankly shocking. I had no idea this was happening until I saw it in my Steam news feed that the DLC has come out.

There is no context I could be told that would change my reaction to this. If the main game cannot be finished without selling parts of the game to people for a second time, the developers have massively mishandled the situation. Using money gained from selling Early Access to a game to develop parts of the game that are then offered to Early Access owners as additional content to be paid for is not acceptable.

Even if I would have loved this game, I wouldn't have paid for it while it was in Early Access if I knew they were going to develop and sell gameplay DLC without finishing the main game.

Edit: Just read what I guess is the developer's pinned FAQ about the train DLC. Absolutely nonsensical, apparently people have been telling them for months this is a scumbag move and the response is basically "screw you shut up" and they've gone ahead anyway. I regret purchasing this game.

I played some, I thought game looked great but wanted to wait for full release.

Turns out devs have are playing "definition game" with Early Access system at Steam. And frankly flat out lying at their Early Access description.

For context, go read discussion forums and pinned up post from devs about why they released paid DLC in an Early Access game. They seem to be believe game is done but expanded by free updates (thats what free updates mean, once a development of a game is completed and you still update it without asking for a paid content) and DLC will only "mix" stuff for people who don't like trains (huh?).

But also if you go read their Early Access description from store page, "Our timeline is still uncertain, but we expect 2-4 more years in EA (as of 2026). We’ll leave Early Access when the game is feature-complete to our vision and meets our quality bar." so it is not feature complete yet. As in it is not done yet. So any update you do, is not a free update but an update included Early Access period which players already paid for.

At this point I hardly think game gonna ever release, but probably will be filled with DLCs before even go to 1.0 that people will feel more and more need if "I need that DLC to fully experience the game" and that's an awful practice for an Early Access game.

Personally, if you run out of money, just be honest. Scope down, admit that financing not working, and say this is what we can go to full release with what we have. Then publish DLCs. Or now any update you may want to call free update.

Otherwise when you list a game as EA, there are certain expectations and certain social contracts. Releasing DLCs let alone content/game mechanic/feature DLCs are against it imo.

So do not support these devs, there are always other games out there, go play them.

Adding paid content DLC while the game is still in early access is just plain scummy, the developer should at least finish the base game before trying to monetize it further. Particularly when what they carved out to sell separately should just be part of the base game.

If the developer changes their approach I'll change my review, but currently I recommend potential buyers wait for the full release to decide if the game is worth getting. There's no way of knowing how much more what should be part of the base game will end up gated behind paid DLC.

Paid DLC for an early access game is not acceptable. They got money for early access title and now are asking for more money to get the "complete" game. For the sake of not encouraging this kind of business practices, I will not recommend this title or any future title by the same developper.

Kennt ihr noch das Gefühl, als Kinder im Sandkasten gespielt zu haben oder am Strand eine Sandburg zu bauen? Jetzt kombiniert dieses Gefühl mit Factorio und Siedler und ihr habt das Gefühl beim Spielen dieses Spiels.
Es macht einfach Spaß die halbe Insel umzugraben und dabei noch seine Transportwege und Fabriken zu optimieren.
Dank der vielen detaillierten Einstellungsmöglichkeiten ist auch der Schwierigkeitsgrad voll einstellbar und von casual bis Hardcorechallenge alles möglich.
Auch das Tutorial ist super gestaltet und überfordert nicht. Das Spiel baut logisch auf jeder Mechanik auf und schon hat man 100h in das Game versenkt.
Außerdem kommen regelmäßig neuer Content und neue Mechaniken, aber auch immer wieder QoL-Verbesserungen ins Spiel. Es hat jetzt schon Suchtpotential und dabei kommen noch Modsupport und DLCs, die übrigens super fair sind und keine Mechaniken hinter einer Paywall verstecken, sondern eher spannende Details für Fans hinzufügen, dazu.

Klare Kaufempfehlung!!!
10/10 würde jeder Zeit wieder eine Insel umgraben.

Что я могу сказать.. Правильно говорили что это редкостная залипалка, особенно для технарей. Получаешь отдельное удовольствие когда правильно организованная логистика, постройка, логические зоны - дают результат и механизм начинает работать как часики. Радует подход к деталям и мелочам. Подробная прорисовка. Конечно упрощенно, но видно что создатели рисовали оборудование не с потолка (как например C&C). Отдельная благодарность создателям за электродуговую печь. Проработал на них более 10 лет и увидев её в игре был приятно удивлен тем, как её изобразили. Сейчас заметил что на плавильне золота даже прорисован ели заметный носик у горловины и перед сливом расплава идет предварительный слив шлака. Это было последней каплей и я пошел писать этот отзыв. Создателям - моё почтение! Спасибо за отличный продукт!

Elinize sağlık. Harika bir oyun olmuş. Otomasyon oyunları favorim.

Factoria ve Satisfactory ile başladım. Her iki oyunu da beğendim. Satisfactory için "şimdilik kralsın" demiştim. :) Ancak bu oyuna başladığımda tam istediğim tarzda bir oyun olmuş. Saçma sapan savaşlar yok, otu böceği yok... Bunların olmaması beni memnun etti. Ayrıca şehir kurma mantığı da çok iyi kurgulanmış. Gemilerle transferler vs. Çok beğendim. Kamyonların hareketleri, kazıcıların onları doldurması... resmen zaman zaman izliyorum o animasyonları. Denizi dağlardan çıkardığımız kaya vs. ile doldurup diğer adaya yol yapmak, denizi doldurarak adamızı genişletmek harika bir fikir.

OTOMASYON OYUNLARINI SEVENLERE KESİNLİKLE TAVSİYE DEDERİM.

Captain of Industry is already a very complete, functional, and fun automation game that rivals big games in this genre. It is well-optimized, made by a team of software engineers who know that the technical requirements of making a game of this kind are not minor.

While it is still in early access, many of the "placeholder" things that exist are actually very functional and are meaningfully integrated.

With regards to the paid DLC (which is the reason you see "mixed" recent reviews), I strongly believe it is very reasonable. While the game is technically in Early Access, it could have easily been released maybe a year ago already as 1.0 and the devs would not have gotten any flak for it. But as they have rather ambitious plans for this title (if you look at the roadmap), they are likely to be keeping it in this state for a few years. I personally do not understand the dogmatic obsession that "EA games should never have DLC", and the critique in this case is especially undeserved.

If you buy Captain of Industry and enjoy automation games, you will have fun for sure. Just be aware that it is relatively easy to fail as a beginner (the game can feel unforgiving at the start, until you learn what to do and what to pay attention to) and it is ok to restart. The trains DLC that people complain about is also not even that important to get, and is mostly cosmetic, but if you enjoy trains, you will probably like it.

Kurzfazit: Ein Meisterwerk der Automatisierung – und ja, ich will die Züge!

Ich kann dieses Spiel nicht genug loben. Für Fans von komplexen Produktionsketten und Terraforming ist Captain of Industry absolut perfekt. Es ist motivierend, fordernd und technisch beeindruckend.

Besonders hervorheben möchte ich das Thema Züge. Ich liebe die Integration der Schienenlogistik und würde mir das entsprechende DLC sofort kaufen.
Ein Wort zu den negativen Stimmen:

Ich verstehe die aktuelle Aufregung um die kaufbaren Zusatz-Inhalte (DLCs) überhaupt nicht. Hier meine Meinung zu den häufigsten Kritikpunkten:

Keine Pay-to-Win Mechanik: Die zusätzlichen Züge sind rein optional und absolut nicht essenziell für den Spielfortschritt. Das Grundspiel ist auch ohne sie eine runde, vollständige Erfahrung.

"Macht erst das Spiel fertig": Dieses Argument zieht hier nicht. Ein funktionierendes DLC-System zu implementieren, gehört zum modernen Entwicklungsprozess genauso dazu wie das Bugfixing oder neue Features.

Der Praxistest: Warum sollte man das System nicht direkt mit einem kleinen Inhalt testen, um sicherzustellen, dass später alles reibungslos läuft? Es ist nur logisch, diesen Teil der Infrastruktur frühzeitig zu etablieren.

Fazit: Lasst euch nicht von den negativen Reviews abschrecken, die sich nur über die Existenz von DLCs beschweren. Das Spiel selbst ist brillant, die Entwickler leisten tolle Arbeit und wer mehr Züge will, sollte auch die Möglichkeit haben, diese zu unterstützen.

Seeing this get review bombed because the DLC and devs stopping modders from breaking the game for people has prompted me to write this somewhat early review.

The game is genuinely great and the improvements and the progress the devs have made over the years are outstanding. Update 4 looks to be amazing with the introduction of bridges, amphibious vehicles and the expansion of trains, especially with the DLC will be a great addition to an already good game.

Whilst this game is a factory building game at its heart, it's not as convoluted as Factorio, yet still has an incredible amount of depth as the focus is shifted to logistics planning over having miles and miles of conveyor belts, and with everything costing upkeep and fuel ensuring you are constantly engaged in the game and trying to optimise your factory wherever you can. Maybe these sorts of games should be called survival factory builders?

Factorio is great, but for me, Captains of Industry is even better.

Captain of Industry feels unique in the city management sims. Its not a Simcity or Cities Skylines. Its more of a cross between Transport Fever and Satisfactory with Minecraft level terrain deformation. Every chunk of terrain can be dug up, hauled away, sorted, and then dumped to create new land mass. Nothing else quite like it.

The devs have been putting out tons of new content during early access with no signs of slowing down.

If you like to fiddle with efficiency of your conveyors and logistics while having fully modeled terrain deformation this is the game for you!

Its like a Civ one more turn for laying pipe!

Edit: Im usually against paid DLC for early access by default. But this game is so polished and has so much content Im already at pennies on the dollar for quality game time. So for me definitely an exception to the rule.

I leave rarely reviews, but this one deserves a negative review for their decision to make a train DLC.

Currently, trains exist in base game, but they're practically useless due to their relatively low benefit and high effort to set up. And when I say "high effort", I truly mean it. I've made massive bases in Factorio with trains and have no issues. Yet in this game they seem to take much, much more effort to set up.

The DLC solves those issues regarding trains at least insofar that the DLC would make trains actually worthwhile compared to alternatives like belts. But they instead make it a paid DLC. So in base game, trains serve no other purpose except tease you with the idea that viable trains exist if you pay for it.

This kind of development feels like they're creating intentionally half-baked system so that they can down the line charge you money for finishing the product in the oven. It's basically bad incentives. And keep in mind, they spent significant amount of effort to implement trains. All that development time now becomes mostly gated behind a DLC.

None of this makes any sense. I reckon not to buy this game unless devs take another approach to monetization. If they want to make DLC-exclusive content, I'm fine with that - but it shouldn't be just them finishing half-baked content in the base game.

For now I would wait until full release. That way you know exactly what you're getting and how much it will cost you.
I'm not a big fan of releasing paid content-based DLC while in early access. I'm also not a huge fan of how the devs and some fans have justified paid DLC by saying "we have already provided 3 content updates for FREE. The last update contained 1.5 DLCs worth of content for FREE." They seem to view working on their early access game as charity done from the goodness of their hearts rather than something that is expected of them by releasing an incomplete game. I do like the updates they have provided so far but I also don't think it should be particularly praise-worthy to continue working on your unfinished game.
I enjoy this game and I like the work they've done on it so far. I enjoy reading the dev blogs and it's interesting to read about the technical hurdles they've faced. But these practices and attitudes have made me lose some faith in the developers. I'm not confident in how future updates and monetization will be handled. I lose faith when criticism is met with anger and hostility. It's also a very bad look to emotionally attack your fanbase and ban people from Steam forums for disagreeing with you.

I took the time to read through the pinned discussion and the negative reviews concerning the (paid) DLC. I also encourage you to do the same.
From my point of view I think with this they really messed things up and created more problems along the way. Although I can understand the need for funding, it's very questionable and controversial to do this by releasing a DLC which contains content that may or may not withholding crucial additions to the base game.

What occurs a lot, in the dev teams comments and in a lot of players comments, is "free update" which is confusing and from my POV misleading. A free update is when a game is released in 1.0 and gets a content or functional extension for free. I think the devs view is that the core game has already been developed and at some point the updates in this Early Access phase have become "free content updates". But the road map on their website clearly says "Future plans for 1.0" which suggests the game is not feature complete by now.

What adds fuel to the fire about the controversial paid DLC during Early Access is the unprofessional and emotionally heated communication from the developers. Unfortunate chosen words, contradictory statements, blocking/banning people from discussions. I'm not taking sides, maybe some people have "deserved" it, maybe the devs take some comments too much to heart and reacting with the wrong actions. Even if it seems not as bad on the surface, it drives away consisting players and potential new ones. And in the long run does huge damage to the devs reputation and the game as a brand. There are multiple negative reviews which advise the devs to let someone with experience and the emotional distance handle the PR.

I am giving this game a negative review because of:
- my view, which I share with many others, that releasing a paid DLC, containing game expanding content and/or functionality during early access is a no-go. Even if Steam does allow such practices it should be considered dishonorable and not be done.
- the poor way they handled the situation. Having a community of players - which are also customers - puts the devs in the responsibility of dealing with them in a professional and mature way. Even if this sometimes hard work.

I will change my review if the devs reconsider their funding approach and improve their way of communicating with their player base.

Это хорошая и продуманная игра. Понравиться всем кто любит думать и планировать особенно на максимальной сложности. В игре хороших баланс и почти не бывает ситуации, когда Вы не знаете чем заняться, на высокой сложности Вы постоянно решаете поток производственных задач.

Интерес сохраняется на всех этапах игры и даже через 100 часов Вы будете играть с таким же интересом.

Но есть у игры и глобальный минус - это оптимизация и это как бы не грусно звучало приговор для 90% любителей этой игры. Вы не сможете в нее долго играть, так как чем больше Вы построили, тем хуже работает игра. Это не разговор про фпс, просто в какой-то момент игра будет работать рывками и начнет замедляться. Вы потерпите еще немного, но станет еще хуже .

Fan de jeux d'automatisations, tels que Satisfactory, Factorio, Dyson Sphere Programme, Shapez2 ... Celui-ci est dans ma top liste. Attention toutefois, dans Captain Of Industry l'automatisation est complexe et la courbe d'apprentissage n'est pas aussi souple que d'autres jeux d'automatisation, mais cette complexité n'est pas reboutante du moins pour ceux qui comme moi aime ce creuser la tête.
J'ai décidé de mettre un commentaire positif pour contre balancer les notes négatifs lié au choix des auteurs du jeu de proposer un DLC payant le mois prochain alors que le CoI est encore en EA. Je peux comprendre le fond du mécontentement, mais si on prend un peu de recul, le jeu est certe encore en Early Access, mais compte tenu de la richesse de son contenu de l'absence de bug ... CoI est pour moi bien plus aboutit que la pluspar des jeux sortis de l'EA. et par concéquent le bombing est selon moi injustifié. Car la vrai question pourrait être "pourquoi descendre CoI alors qu'il propose un gameplay riche et aboutit et stable qui plus est ?".
Bref, amateurs d'automatisations ne vous fiez pas aux mauvaises notes récentes, ce jeux est excellent !

Za mě nesmírně povedená hra. Určitě doporučuji všem, co mají rádi strategie a zároveň u nich rádi přemýšlí :)
Ve zkratce jde o hru, v níž budujete průmyslové město a uspokojujete potřeby svých obyvatel, které zároveň používáte jako pracovní sílu. Negenerujete žádný zisk, tak že nejste omezení finančními zdroji, ale fungujete na bázi barteru, tedy směnném obchodu něco za něco, což je mnohdy velmi výhodné.
Hra vám nabízí velké množství nerostného bohatství, od kovových rud, přes ropu, vápenec, uhlí a jiné. Které dále zpracováváte na další materiály a produkty.
Nepotřebujete nijak extra velké znalosti angličtiny, protože hra je moc hezky udělaná a všechny výrobní postupy "recepty" máte v liště na pravé straně a vše je graficky znázorněné.
Nepočítejte s tím, že byste tuto hru dohráli během pár hodin. Ze začátku je v ní krátký scénář, který vás uvede do základů hraní, ale potom už je to pouze na vás a ta cesta je opravdu dlouhá a není dobré jí uspěchat.
Zkusím hru a své poznatky trochu rozvést, tak že následující odstavce budou věnované přímě hře, tak že je to ideální pro začínající hráče.

Obyvatelé
Jak už jsem zmiňoval, obyvatelé vám poskytují nezbytnou pracovní sílu a zároveň pokud uspokojujete jejich potřeby, tak generují tzv. UNITY. Jsou to vlastně jakési bonusové body, které jsou nezbytné pro obchodování (každý uzavřený obchod/ směna vás stojí malé množství bodů). Zároveň jimi můžete navýšit produkci továren o 100%, ale pozor, současně s tím i spotřebu daných zdrojů. Mějte ale na paměti, že pokud naopak některé potřeby přestanete plnit a bude jich víc zároveň, můžete se dostat s body do mínusu a to nechcete. Tak velký pozor na to.
Může se vám během hry stát, že vám dojde nějaká nezbytná surovina, bez které se nepohnete dál a právě díky tomuto obchodu se z toho můžete vyhrabat.
Nové dělníky získáte:
- narozením přímo ve městě, tak mějte dostatek volného prostoru k jejich ubytování.
- pomocí UNITY bodů si je můžete "adoptovat" na mapě světa a přivést do města.
- pomocí majáku, který vám vygeneruje nepravidelný počet dělníků za určitou dobu.

Továrny
Veškeré budovy odemykáte pomocí stromu technologií, tak ž výzkum nezanedbávejte.
Postupně odemykáte nové stavební možnosti a hlavně vylepšení. Tak že některé továrny nemusíte bourat, ale pouze je vylepšit. Stejně jako potrubí nebo dopravní pásy,...
Rozhodně nestavějte továrny, které momentálně nepotřebujete, stojí vás to stavební jednotky, obyvatele a energii. Zároveň se může stát, že po čase odemknete lepší budovu a získáte vhodnější postup výroby daného produktu. A to je také zajímavé, jeden produkt nemá pouze jeden stejný výrobní proces, ale můžete použít různé jiné suroviny a operovat tak lépe s tím, co vyrábíte a jaké zdroje máte na mapě k dispozici.
Největší důraz dávejte na budovu výzkumu a na budovy které vyrábějí stavební jednotky. Protože jak budete postupovat stromem technologií, tak s každou novou fází budete potřebovat vyspělejší nástroje a "mikroskopy" určené pro výzkumné budovy. V tomto směru platí, že ve výrobně A vyrobíte základní stavební jednotku, po odemknutí další fáze však potřebujete o stupeň lepší a tak z A produktu v jiné továrně vyrobíte B, potom z B na C a tak dál, přitom platí pravidlo, že vždy budete potřebovat více toho nejzákladnějšího produktu. To samé platí i u výzkumu.

Farmy, jatka
Na farmách produkujete plodiny jako brambory, obilí, zeleninu a další zdroje, které potřebujete zejména pro uspokojení potřeb obyvatel (tj. z obilí pečete chléb, z brambor chipsy,...).
Farmy můžete vylepšovat a navyšovat jejich produkci pomocí hnojiv, vody a střídání alespoň dvou druhů plodin na jednom poli.
Na jatkách (mohu-li je tak nazvat) chováte pouze slepice, které vám dávají maso a vejce. Opět nezbytné potřeby obyvatel.

Nerostné bohatství a zdroje
Jak už bylo řečeno, ve hře máte k dispozici různé materiály v závislosti na zvolené mapě a terénu.
Na začátku, i během hry budete potřebovat zejména dřevo a hlavně uhlí, které je nezbytnou složkou pro mnoho dalších výrob jako je slévárna železa, mědi, skla a nebo jako palivo do kotlů, které potřebujete na výrobu energie a dalšího.
Dřevo, respektive stromy můžete později sami vysazovat, ale většina dalších zdrojů se časem vyčerpá a je tak potřeba je dovážet z nalezišť na mapě světa, která postupným objevování odkryjete.
Soustřeďte se tedy hlavně na získání naleziště ropy, protože to ve vašem městě se velmi rychle vyčerpá a nelze jej obnovit.
Jediný zdroj, který se postupně obnoví sám, je spodní voda. Ale v tomto případě se postarejte o získání vody jiným způsobem. Čím více vodních pump postavíte, tím rychle je podzemní voda vyčerpá (stejně jako ropa).

Mapa světa
Jak už jsem psal, mapa světa je pro vás nezbytná pro objevení nalezišť, ze kterých dovážíte vše potřebné a nebo pro objevení nových obchodních partnerů, což se také hodí.
Nezanedbávejte vylepší lodi, protože bez toho nebudete moci úspěšně válčit s "piráty" a bez patřičného vylepšení se ani nedostanete daleko od domovského ostrova, protože vaše loď tak dlouhou trasu nezvládne.

Myslím si, že to je takové to nejdůležitější do začátku, co by začínajícímu hráči mohlo pomoci. Ale jak to bývá, musíte si to sami osahat a sžít se s tím :)

I really love this game, it's an excellent factory sim with a port theme to it. I recommend a try for fans of the genre or crunchy city builders like Workers and Resources.

The game is currently being review-bombed because they decided to released paid DLC while in early access. I agree with the criticism on how this update has been marketed; they should declare the game a full release before paywalling content. When you buy an early access game, there is an implication that you haven't quite "gotten what you paid for" until the 1.0 release, so dropping paid DLCs feels wrong.

That said, I thought it was important to say that the game itself is awesome and deserve the thumb's up.
