I enjoy playing but I have played a version of Capitalism with multiple versions of shops.
That was better but I have not found that version
Thanks Daniel
The best market/business simulator ever. Goated.
This game incidentally taught me Rockefeller's predatory tactics for market domination. I learnt all sorts of fun concepts like predatory pricing, price gouging, vertical integration, I didn't allow my competitors to thrive one bit. I controlled every last part of a supply-chain production process. The only features it's missing is bribery of politicians and Trust formation.
If my competitors were selling products for retail, they'd buy the manufactured good directly from me. They were poor quality but at an attractive price. Once they started buying from me, I'd price gouge the hell out of my product and they were forced to increase the price of it on their end to make up for the losses.
Some cities I lost more money than I gained. But it was worth it because I drove the prices down. Anytime a non renewable resource was discovered like oil/gold, I was the first to claim it, and I was the only one allowed to use oil/gold for products.
Love Capitalism 2 and Capitalism Lab, just bought it for completion. It offers nothing special compared to Capitalism 2...
Great economic simulation game! Perfect for the 90s vibe!
1) A DosBox is opened
2) No configuration, no sound.
3) Savegames just disappear.
4) I have two older copies of this game (CD, download) and both run better.
Hard, but fun
Most educational simulation on business I've seen yet.
Beware the first scenario (Entrepreneur Spirit) has a rating of 30, but the second scenario (The Emerging Dragon) has a rating of 60. In my personal opinion there is a large learning gap between the first and second scenario, this gap could have been filled with more 30 scenarios or 40s and 50s. I find myself struggling with the second scenario so much that I just spend time fiddling in the first scenario.
great fun, just takes a while to learn
MONEY
This isn't "Plus" in any way shape or form - this is Capitalism Minus. Completely mis named in the hope of catching out those who played the original.
In the original you could build an empire consisting of many different areas - farming, mining, manufacturing and then sell the produced goods.......in this version you have to choose just one area and everything is then locked into that one specific area.
Remember having farms producing beef and manufacturing producing cars? Then you need to get the original and forget you saw this version.
If you long for the old days of Capitalism, you will be extremely disappointed by Capitalism Minus.
Gra, która w dzieciństwie solidnie nauczyła mnie zasad ekonomii - praktyczne abecadło biznesu.
A good retro game.
good
Playing this game for the first time in 2023. Its a complex and very enjoyable strategy game.
One of my fav game of all times, with realistic setting and complex features, this game will never die even if it's more 20 years old
sadly the bug is beyond playable, if you want play this game i recommended turn off the "random events" and "city appared in games", they both made my game crash... turn it off and you will experience smooth gameplay but it will make the game lose is VUCA details
Nicht in Deutsch.
Old school simulator that reminds of the old days. Nothing for youngsters, but probably for people that liked the game Detroit on Amiga back in 1993. The game idea is pretty basic, make money, import and sell, or research so you can craft and sell better stuff, or do both, but still there is that old school depth to it.
I've tried some other versions of Capitalism, and consider easily this being the best version,
Old but nice game for oldies like me...
muneh
An amazing tool to help give you the experience of running a business. There is quite a bit of educational value in this hard but fun game.
Please bring labs to steam...
Beste Wirtschaftssimulation auf dem Markt..ja miese Grafik weil alt und so und man muss sich da bissel reinarbeiten..aber wer pur auf Wirtschaftsgames steht..a must have ;) meiner Meinung nach..kam kein neues Game bis dato an das spiel heran ;)
we need fix good and chinese.
Me encantaa!

J'adore
No school like the old school
The game has it all for those that like business games. Will take some time to get the hang of it and failure is to be expected but once learned, it's an engrossing game

Sell beds [/h1]
This is a business sim that has a Vaporwave atmosphere. Images, player portraits etc. all of them are straight outta 90s. This is aesthetically pleasing for me.
Guess why?
Because the game is older than me. Lol And I play this game while listening to Vaporwave songs.
Well I finished the tutorials and completed the first scenario, so I think I can review this game.
First things first. It is not very detailed but has more details than most modern management games. Stock market(dividend, p/e ratio, public offerings etc.) manufacturing, retail business, farming, mining, r&d and other things. This is not real life. So for a game, I think it has enough features. Even today in my opinion it is still impressive.
Because of repetitive micro management it can get boring. Let's say you opened a shop in a city and sell imported goods, then to grow your business, you have to do the same in another city. You click to build a store, click to create purchasing department, click to create sales department, click to buy a product and sell in your store. this is just for one product. If you want to sell many different products in differrent cities, it can take a lot of time. Even one shop can sell up to four products. Wish it had copy paste setting for your buildings. :/
That's why I don't play this game sandbox and only scenario modes.
Capitalism Plus has 20 different scenario modes. E.g. in one scenario you play in china. Try to dominate the chemical and electronic products market. Achieve an annıual profit of i don't remember how much million dollars and create 10.000 jobs for your nation. In other scenario you play in france and try to dominate the apparel, cosmetics, jewelry and optics business, Other one in Japan, different one in Britain with different goals and different maps. This keeps my interest alive.
I told you I finished the first scenario. I have 19 more left. If everyday I can finish one and finish all the scenarios in 19 days. This game is enough for me. Then I can move on to Capitalism 2.
If it's on discount in my opinion Capitalism Complete Pack is a must buy. And if you are interested, you can buy this game with it's full price. Because it's still very cheap.
Considering it's release date and the game is still still playable today. I give it a solid "9" out of 10
9/10
Essentially, this is a very minimalistic version of your more modern, micromanagement-style business tycoon games. Considering its release date, it is surprisingly deep and fairly well made. However, I cannot recommend this game, or more accurately put, the Steam version of this game.
This isn't optimized to run well on modern systems; it crashed on me a few times. Considering its retail price, you expect some effort to be put into such optimizations or include some modernities but unfortunately, this isn't the case. So unless you don't mind paying what's essentially a lazy emulated version of the original and/or just for nostalgia's sake, give this a pass.
7/10
Are you Gordon Gecko, or just Bud Fox?
Capitalism Plus is a fun old game. It is also somewhat educational, although more at the K12 level of learning business, rather than College of Business (for that you have Capitalism 2!) And looking back on history, it is also hysterical to look at what the developers predicted right and wrong in 1995 for future tech. Smart TVs and iWatches (which didn't last) they got, but totally missed the cell phone, much less the smart phone! And only today are we finally getting VR computers, Decades ahead on that!
The core of the game is fairly complex. You need to manufacture, transport, and retail products, and even develop a limited number of new ones. You need to advertise. You need R&D to keep up with competitors. You even need to extract raw resources. You need to deal with branding, the stock market (and investors if you don't buy yourself out), take-overs, etc. You have a lot of options for how to build a business. You can just focus on retailing import and rival players' products, extract and sell resources, manufacture intermediate products, or fully vertically integrate. You can even be a miner, farmer, rancher, or logger. And, unless you are really aggressive (and easy competition), you will need to trade with your rivals. Hard to make computers when your rivals own the silicon mines you need to manufacture the chips (or glass for the screens!)
Perhaps the best feature of the game is the endless challenge and victory conditions. You control all of these and can tailor them to increase the challenge and fit your play style, Instead of a simple choice of 5-7 levels, like most games, you control over 40 different indicators of victory from time, to market dominance, to corporate profits, and even personal wealth. In this way you never reach the point where you are routinely beating the game on Impossible! Need more challenge, set your goal as billions more, with less time, and more aggressive competitors. For 1995, this game was way ahead of its time.
Downsides: Other than the product selection, which is humorous in places, the game is definitely dated. The graphics are pretty basic. There is also a lot of clicking. A lot! The interface can be confusing and intimidating to new players. Also, the model is limited. There are a finite number of products, although new cities and resources occasionally spawn. To be fair, there are three different product sets to begin a game with. And once you are dominant, you are now just playing to beat your score. The AI is also limited. Although at aggressive it can give you fits, it often sets up and then shuts down factories when it realizes it can't find the needed inputs. In the end game you are just trying to expand earnings while new competitors set up and then collapse in a few years. Also, the game allows you to hire professional managers. However, they tend to make a lot of bad decisions. If you are not laser focused on retail profits, they can run that, but make terrible production decisions, often preferring to source from your competitors over your own production. As a result, if you are aggressively pursuing profits (victory) you are going to have to manage the prices of some 60 products from store to store, while also running farms, factories, and mines. This is a micro-manager's dream game. Also, some products that were state of the art (but also being challenged even in 1995) make the game really look dated. VCRs and CamCorders anyone? And some players will object to growing tobacco and selling cigarettes today on either moral or modern economic grounds. And there are some annoying issues with supply chains. When primary resources run-out, due to supply exhaustion (mines, timber, oil wells) or random events (farms & ranches) you actually have to reconnect all your factories to a new source (which always appear.) Lots of micromanagement.
One pet peeve: Lamb is a real problem in the game. Starting a sheep farm is easy, but getting the farm to produce wool to make socks and sweaters is buggy. It often does not work. And no matter how much lamb you produce, consumers don't seem to want to buy it. They will buy more beef and pork at twice the price. I can't imagine players in the UK and Ireland are impressed.
The thing about Capitalism is that it gets the basic model of business right. Aside from having fun, you can learn a lot of basics about, well, capitalism (minus the insider trading, corporate espionage, and influence peddling). If you never studied business or economics, it makes a pretty decent primer. And it can be a lot of fun if you are not adverse to micro-management and quarter century old interfaces. But to prove you are a real capitalist, buy it when it is on discount. It's the only way! And don't forget:
"Greed, for the lack of a better word, is Good!"
POLECAM I WSZYSTKO LADNIE DZIALA:) P.S. - POLECAM DLC I MODY:)
Best ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game this side of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Kendi işletim sistemiyle birlikte yüklenen oyun gibi oyun :D Tarih kokuyor, nostalji kokuyor buram buram...
Minimalist game. Perhaps a good learner, but not visually engaging enough for me. Charts graphs tables.
It is a great game that helps you understand business strategies and how to manage multiple aspects at one time. Graphics are dated, but the game play is good.
Play one of the oldest professions of the world, the investor. There will always be markets, even when it's just precious metals like buying gold or land, the neverending bull market that goes on since over 1000+ years. Do you have strong or weak hands? Can you defeat your biggest enemy, the emotions of you and your surrounding? Do you want to see how S & P 500 always goes up over a timespan of the last 150+ years? Do you want to get a deeper knowledge of possible scenarios in the stock market? Then this game is probably right for you, it's quite old, but the problem is that you won't find many people that really understand finance and real life scenarios who want to make a great game about it these days.
Awesome economic simulation game!
If you like charts and tables just as minimal as being in the matrix watching raw data only, then this game is for you. If not, then better run away... :)
fun game if you like economics
love this game. Compares to other business "clicker" mobile games, this one feels real. Uses realistic $$$ amounts which adds to the realism. For example you're not gonna build a mine when you're only business is a hardware store. Unless you want to go bankrupt. That's anther thing that feels real. There's competition in this game. You have to be careful or you will lose money and go bankrupt!
There's no time pressure since you can slow the game down as much as you want. Just strategy pressure which makes you act more carefully.
I'm glad I went with this one over the sequel. This one still holds up.
The UI works smoothly and plays like a modern game despite the graphics. Unlike many DOS ports, this one retains it's addictive-ness and feels satisfying to play.
If you're looking to save some money instead of buying the sequel I think this one gets the job done. The sparse graphics and big icons work good for beginners just getting into the game. I can see myself putting many hours into this before upgrading to the sequel.
by far the best business simulator. If you are not careful you will lose control of your company. take care issuing stocks for cash. You can also take over other companies and let them keep running or merge them into your company.
i played 2 and now i try this and its just horible!
Dont buy ! ui is bad, worst game ever.
buy 2 dont touch 1
The original, and in some ways also the best Capitalism game..! The newer ones are a bit more complex - but the UI in the original gives a much more realistic vibe, which i think is really cool. I used to play this back in the 90's when i was a kid, and this is by far the oldest game that i know that people still play and think highly of.
This is a badly updated "port" of the old Capitalism Plus game from the 1990s, running in DOSBOX. It's just too dated for me to recommend this. The developers are gouging $8.50 for abandonware for the sake of cashing in on nostalgia.
sweet, its very nice they provide games i played in childhood and i thought were lost.
very complex and interesting game like for 1997, it has some error as it can suddenly blackout
Fantastic game focusing on Economics, highly recommended for pleasure & also as a fun "hands on" instructional tool. Tackling management/economic subjects as Supply/Demand, Income (P&L) Statements, Balance Sheets, Financial leveraging, including Stock market & more intricate manufacturing subjects such as Utilization. Anyway...highly recommended if you're into this stuff & want to burn a few hours.
A classic from the DOS days, and it kinda holds up! It's kind of amazing how much detail there is in this game.
wow guys epic game 10/10
It took me a long time to get to a place where I understood enough about this game to be competent at it. Thank you to all of you that wrote game play guides as they were a life saver. I will say that this game was enjoyable, intolerable, and fun all at the same time. If you do buy this game, which I would recommend, know that the learning curve is steep and the time suck is real, but it is a lot of fun.
This game is a classic simulation/strategy game of the 1990s where there are no real goals except to be the richest man/woman in the world. The graphics are great for it being a DOS game and the game play is fun enough. I would say that if you are not into the whole sitting and creating a full strategy this game is not for you. I will also point out that once you learn a successful strategy the replay value is not that strong, but for $6.00 it is worth the price, especially when it is on sale.
This game is terrible. Do not buy as it is full of bugs and setting up anything is extremely time consuming with very little reward.
I have played this game offline way before i bought it on steam (sooner or later i'll lose the CD so i figured "what the heck" and bought it here too), it is fun and can sometimes be challenging. If you can't compete with the competition, buy their stock and take them over, or try to insert yourself into their supply chain, or buy their stuff and make better products. The options are quite wide. I have tried Cap2 but i didn't enjoy it as much as this game.
If you want superb graphics and sound, this may not be for you.
Its A Fantastic Game For Its Time Period But With Tech How It Is Now Its Just To Outdated That Is Why I Give It A Thumbs Down But Other Then That This Is A Great Game i Would Say That This Game Needs To Be Brought Into The 21st Centry And Then It Would Be Even Better
An amazing game but doesn't seem compatible with Windows 10. I've run over a dozen combination of compatibility tests and I continue to get file verification errors.
Review changed on March 13, 2022, to a thumbs up. It runs now on Windows 10. Thank you, Capitalism Plus!
Great economic strategy game if you can get over the ancient visuals. Definitely worth it for fans of Paradox strategy games.
Strategy game of money, power and wealth. Monitor your business performance against competitors, plot your strategy, even engineer hostile take-overs. Deal with the kind of events that keep real CEOs on their toes - riots, disease, technological breakthroughs and more.
Game designed by Trevor Chan, in which you are a budding entrepreneur that wants to make big money in the world of business. It's what I like to call a 'spreadsheet game', in which numbers are a big thing.
It's all about making products and selling them. Selling is the easy part. Making is the hard part. Perhaps if you were, say, making beds, you would have to acquire the timber to make them through overseas suppliers or make a logging camp, then ship them off to a factory. In the factory, you must link inventory to manufacturing, and sell the beds off to your department stores. You can conquer several product markets and industries if you are good. There are other ways to create more profit for your company. You can also start up mines, oil wells, and farms. In all these various ventures, you must link units of employees working different portions like purchasing, manufacturing, sales, etc. together to make them work. You can even takeover other companies by buying a large portion of their stock. If your being drained by all the micromanagement, you can hire a president to help you with operating the various companies under your control. There's lots of things to look at, like how well your products are known and liked, the quality of your products, the stock price of your company, gross profits from each product, cost of training employees, etc. Sometimes it can be mind-boggling to get through all these details, though if you can handle it the game's pretty cool. The computer AI is competent and sometimes a ruthless businessman if given an aggressive personality.
Graphics are not really a factor in this game, since this is a spreadsheet game. All you see graphics-wise are cities, land, and sea from a top-down view. And the music is okay, and the sound is fitting enough.
OK, first off, I own the original Mac version back in 1996, this game is a fun game with a lot of great stratagy and business finance in it. As a pure game, especially on my old Mac, it was a lot of fun to play. But this outdated DOS version is terrible. Nowhere does it say it's a DOSBox emulatated version. No one took any time or effort in optimizing it or doing anythign to make it play better on newer Windows machines, so you're essentually playing the original 1995 DOS version of the game with it's clunky interface and it's basic VGA 640x480 resolution. If you can get past that, then you might have a fun time, but if you at all are expecting a modern game with stretchable windows or anything modern like that, you'll be sourly disapointed. I can not recomend this game for anyone who is used to using a modern windows computer and wants to play it using modern windows convinences, you won't find it with this game at all. My old mac version plays better then this on my old 7500/100.
Nothing has changed...it plays exactly like yesteryear...totally love it!
Despite all of its flaws, which are in good part due to its age, it still easily beats any of today's simplistic "business sims".
If you can stand the terrible graphics and dated game mechanics, go for it!
For its time, it was definitly a nice game. If you can look over the more than dated graphics, its still pretty nice and can keep you bussy for a bit.
Would wish that there was a remake of this with a new look and more functions.
Used to play hundreds of hours of CapWin when I was at university. In terms of economy and capitalisation this is one of the best games ever. Reource ominance, building an empire in time and some patience is crucial. Work in newer versions of windows, without a seperate DosBox. A definate buy - not for the grafics (which were outdated even when released), but for the game play. The graphics and flowcharts in the game are more than adequate...and the follow up (Capitalisation II) is graphically nore up to date but not nearly as sophisticated and insightfull. If you like to see how corporations work including in depth finances, this is a no brainer
A spectre is haunting Europe — the spectre of communism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope and Tsar, Metternich and Guizot, French Radicals and German police-spies.
Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as communistic by its opponents in power? Where is the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries?
Two things result from this fact:
I. Communism is already acknowledged by all European powers to be itself a power.
II. It is high time that Communists should openly, in the face of the whole world, publish their views, their aims, their tendencies, and meet this nursery tale of the Spectre of Communism with a manifesto of the party itself.
To this end, Communists of various nationalities have assembled in London and sketched the following manifesto, to be published in the English, French, German, Italian, Flemish and Danish languages.
I played this game when it first came out and loved it! Still do.
One of the best Economics simulations that you can get.
Played it first in 1996 and i still love it 11 years later. Brings back really nice memories.
not the best port for windows 10 users needs fix for it to not be in window
but if you can get past that it is as excellent as you remember it
Great business simulator. From farms to factories to shops. I ussually start with strawberries and try to beat the riches man on earth. Complexed but easy to learn .
Capitalism is one of my favorite games of all time, vastly better than the standard tycoon game, it's dated graphics notwithstanding. It teaches you the basics of supply chain management, product segmentation, and the power of vertical integration. It even manages to illustrate the basics of fundraising through stock offerings. However, it's not as full-featured as Capitalism 2, which will hopefully be available on Steam soon. Endlessly entertaining. 4/5
money money money
But seriously, if you like economics in the slightests, and like simulation games, there is a good chance youd like this game. The only thing I didnt like about it is that the best way to make money is with the Department store, everything else will become a money drain if you don't do it exactly right. Also the CPU, even on easy, will do a million things a minute and all at once, so when a new city come up, they already have 5 stores making profits within seconds. And because of this fact it will almost always have them making billions within 20 minutes, while you will be crawling to get through the millions. At least thats how it went everytime I played it
Wow great game!!!
I remember when this first came out. I tried getting my local economics teacher to play this to see just how detailed and awesome it was showing true buisness mechanics.
Are you going to put out Capitalism lab? And if when? PLus is missing the mark by a mile.
On first-run you'll just get full flickering black screen. Press Alt-Enter immediately to switch to windowed mode. Works on Windows 7 64-bit.
Great gem of a business simulation; more in-depth than Capitalism II especially in setting up farming for crops. Need to consider soil fertility, rainfall and climate in order to select the best location to build a farm. Also harvesting and planting seasons need to be taken into account so that the farm can be built at the correct time.
Best part about the game is the IQ like challenge of setting up the interior layout of your firm, be it department store or factory. You're limited to 3 x 3 squares so clever arrangement of facilities and linking is needed to maximize utilization of space and workflow.
You'll learn the basic common raw materials needed to produce certain goods so the same mining facility can be used to supply raw materials for other production facilities making other goods. Of course since this is only a game, some simplifications are needed in representing the depth and complexity of real-life industries due to technical limitations of PC and the broad range of industries potrayed in this game.
The other interesting aspect is the in-depth stock market simulation. You can learn a lot about it here without risking real money. You can lose the game in a hostile take-over by the AI corporation. Conversely, you can win by the same method or monopolizing all industries and supply chain from mining or farming to production to retailing.
Con: no background music and low-res 4:3 windowed mode. The original CD has redbook audio and the music keeps the game fresh and add a sense of urgency.
Summation: No other game like it for years except for Capitalism II which is a bit simplified but has similar a product and industry range.
Recommended if you get it in a bundle deal, not as a standalone purchase because of the missing music. I got it for about an average price of US$0.35; ofcourse other games in the bundle maybe worth more so this is only a median price. Here is the bundle (6 days left as of this writing) https://www.bundlestars.com/en/promotions/retroism-pick-mix
Probably the best business sim ever to hit the market. 8/10
Not as good as versions for older PCs
