The writing was pretty decent as well as the visuals and the music!

The gameplay is arcade first as many have said; however the worse element to this game is the duel system as it relies on trial and error; knowing when to match your speed and focus; or making sure one or the other is as high as it can be.

It was serviceable...that's the best I can say about it. There's nothing really wrong with the game, but it is totally on the rails and the gameplay gets repetitive after a while. Also, the use of the narrator to tell the story while it unfolds felt clever at first but became a bit irritating as time went on.
What I liked the best were the 2D graphics/illustrations during the cutscenes, that was some nice looking artwork.

[h2]An arcade shooter first. A western second.[/h2]

The final entry in this underrated Techland series is an arcade style first person shooter with a western theme that puts gameplay above story and style over substance, but in a good and original way.

First of all, don't be like me and expect to play a mini Red Dead Redemption. Although its set in the Wild West, it merely acts as the backdrop to a linear fast paced FPS experience. Its not even similar to Call of Juarez's very own Bound in Blood, which is my personal favourite of the series and a much more immersive and authentic Western game, or the classic Gun from 2000s.

[b]Graphics[/b]

Gunslinger opts for a comic style based, cell shaded, cartoony, [i]Borderlandsy[/i] graphics setting instead of a photorealistic one. So if you are a fan of that style, you will immediately gel with it whereas if you are not it will take some hard loving to do so. The game creates a fun, colourful retro arcade style atmosphere with that. Comics inspired cutscenes make you feel like reading a penny dreadful of the old times mixed with some gritty DC comic like Jonah Hex or Preacher.

[b]Gameplay[/b]

Its an excellent arcade shooter. Being not much of a fan of them, I grew to love it. Various score popups you get by shooting enemies in different patterns and creating explosions provides a good amount of dopamine. The game encourages you to move fast, shoot fast and keep chaining kills for maximum scores making it a real adrenaline fest. A concentration mode activated and fueled by killstreaks enables you to slow down time. There are 3 different combat styles you can play and switch between which gives the game some variety and replayability. You can be a badass dual gun wielding gunslinger or a precise and patient ranger or an in-your-face destructive shotgunner. . Story difficulties are acceptable even for a casual like me and the ultimate True West difficulty has you playing the game without crosshairs and popups in a much more challenging but authentic way. That was fun, hmmm.
That being said, there's one giant mechanism that can hinder the smooth flow of the gameplay, which brings us to.....

[b]Duals[/b]

Every western movie has duels, as those cowboys apparently were a bunch of hot blooded show-offs itching to provide entertainment to the onlookers instead of settling it more sensibly and effieciently! [i](or was it not and is it actually a myth built by the big Hollywood studios? I don't know)[/i]. Anyway duels are inseparable from western genre. So every western game has a duel system too and Gunslinger has got one of the worst. Or its got one that takes a great amount of time to figure out. I had been doing some ridiculous movements with my mouse to locate the sweet spot of the duel system and with some online guides and practice managed to find it at last. So you may find replaying duels over and over during the story a few times which can break the smooth flow of the game. But its not so bad in the story, you will get them eventually and move on. Unfortunately for completionists, there's a separate duel challenge that forces you to be a master at these mechanics. It can be a bit frustrating but after some practice and persistency you will beat it . Good luck.

[b]Story[/b]

A cliche western classic is presented in an unique and original approach. Thats what makes Gunslinger special. The protagonist is an [i]'unreliable narrator'[/i] whose storytelling should be taken with a grain of salt. The player relives his grandiose series of adventures which he is narrating to his skeptic audience and whenever he forgets something, backtracks/reshapes his story or the audience questions him, the player experience a shift in the game environment or gameplay which results in a bunch of comedic and dramatic incidents, indeed a fresh concept.

As I said its not a fully immersive Wild West world, but for western enthusiasts it still is a treasure trove. Real life Wild West legends make appearances throughout the story including [i]Billy the Kid, Jesse James[/i] and many more. Oh yes, our man had faced them all, seen it all. ([i]or had he?[/i])

[b]Achievements[/b]

Its an 'easy game to complete' according to Playstation profiles ratings and steam users completion rate percentages, but I have had some hard times doing the infamous duel challenge and getting all arcade mode stars, trying for several hours. But a FPS expert or a persistent casual will find them fairly easy. Collectibles are these fun little thingies called Nuggets of Truth which provide 'did you know' facts about Western legends and famous incidents upon acquiring. Its a rare occurance where collectibles become a fun challenge more than a chore. Some of the hidden locations are pretty creative and you also get a chime sound when near them. I suggest not using a guide at least for the most part.

So though the game tends to be more favourable for gameplay enthusiasts than cinephiles, I consider every Wild West fan should give this neat little shooter a try. And for FPS lovers, its a must.

Один из лучших вестернов в игровой индустрии - мнение про Call of Juarez: Gunslinger после прохождения

Есть ситуации, когда берёшь какую-то игру в Steam за копейки на распродаже, чисто чтобы была в библиотеке и оставляешь на потом. И вот момент наступает, ты запускаешь на десять минут посмотреть, что за игра - а в итоге проходишь чуть ли не за один присест. Так у меня случилось с Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, которую я прошёл за три часа за одну игровую сессию.

Поэтому хочу вам рассказать, чем цепляет этот шутер, а поверьте - это отличный шутер от авторов серии Dying Light.

Плюсы:
● Геймплей

С одной стороны смотришь - ну типичный шутан в сеттинге Дикого Запада, а с другой стороны - блин, как же круто в этой игре стрелять! Любые попадания ощущаются как нужно - куча кровищи, отличная физика у врагов, сочные звуки. В общем, как там сейчас правильно говорить? Ганплей? Вот ганплей в игре отличный.

При этом игра подкидывает кучу интересных механик: есть как и стандартное замедление времени в стиле Red Dead Redemption, а есть также и возможность уклониться от пули, если у вас осталось мало здоровья. Уклонились - выжили. Не уклонились - погибли. Это вносит разнообразия в геймплей, ибо нужно уклониться в нужную сторону.

Но вот что реализовано просто великолепно в игре - это дуэли. Вам нужно одновременно следить за: как близко ваша рука к пистолету (влияет на скорость, как быстро вы выхватите оружие), как сильно вы сфокусированы на враге (позволяет уменьшить размер прицела), а также нужно следить, выхватил ли враг оружие, чтобы опередить его и убить. В общем, в этой игре самые лучшие дуэли в игровой индустрии.

При этом игра постоянно подкидывает вам какие-то интересные локации и ситуации: то с горящего корабля нужно сбежать, то опередить фитиль, чтобы он не взорвал мост и так далее.

● Графика и звуки

Игра вышла в 2013 году, но даже сейчас картинка выглядит просто замечательно. Кто-то пишет, что игре ремастер нужен. НЕ НУЖЕН! В игре отличное освещение, есть даже так называемые god rays (специально не пишу "лучи", а то подумаете про ray tracing), есть отражения в лужах и так далее. Графон - моё почтение.

Музыка в игре тоже отличная, равно как и звуки. Это такой типичный вестерн во всей его красе - музыка с элементами губной гармошки, звуки рикошетов. В общем, если вы смотрели фильмы про вестерн - то здесь эти звуки все отыграны аутентично.

● Сюжет (без спойлеров)

Опять же, ты ждёшь от игры какого-то простого тупого шутана, но нет же! В игре есть сюжет! Он не шедевральный, но и не плохой. Да, у нас тут снова история про месть, но как эта история подаётся!

Дело в том, что наш главный герой приходит в салун, где начинает рассказывать свою историю. И прикол в том, что пока ты играешь, то порой слышишь, как люди задают свои вопросы нашему герою, и когда герой что-то озвучивает, то это появляется или убирается в игре.

Ну условно говоря, у нас там система ненадёжного рассказчика. Герой говорит одно, его поправляют, и герой такой: "А, точно, всё было по-другому!" и прям перед тобой может перестроиться локация и так далее. Выглядит это всё здорово.

Минусы игры:
● Малый арсенал оружия

Да, я понимаю, что в таком сеттинге особо не разгуляешься, вот и тут тоже у нас всего четыре вида оружия: револьверы, дробовики, винтовки и динамит. И с одной стороны как бы хватает, а с другой стороны как-то маловато. Хотелось бы, конечно, чуть-чуть больше. Это не критичный минус, это мелкий недостаток.

● Порой экран слишком "грязный"

Иногда игра способна заспавнить столько эффектов на экране, игрока что просто ужас. Например, зачем-то на экране отображается эффект дыры от пули, что в нас попали. И это выглядит как-то несуразно. Особенно глупая ситуация, когда у тебя на экране такой вот эффект, а у тебя последний шанс увернуться от пули (о чём говорил выше), но из-за эффекта ты тупо пули не видишь.

Плюс есть различные циферки, куча текста (как ты попал во врага + субтитры внизу) и так далее. В общем, экран в игре периодически слишком грязный и перегруженный.

Выводы
Это отличный шутер, которому вы обязаны дать шанс. Зайдёте в игру на десять минут - застрянете надолго. Те минусы, которые я перечислил - это на самом деле не скажу что прям уж такие жирные недостатки. Это так, некоторые мелкие недочёты, которые сильно не общую картину не влияют.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger was a really enjoyable experience.

The gunplay feels clean and satisfying. Combat is fast and arcade-like, which fits the game well. The only gameplay issue I noticed was that occasionally when aiming directly at an enemy and shooting, the hit wouldn’t register. It didn’t happen constantly, but it was noticeable when it did.

The duel mechanic was a highlight. It takes a bit of practice to understand how it works, but once it clicks it becomes very fun. The game also adds new elements to duels later in the story, like dodging and switching targets, which keeps them interesting. I did encounter a small bug a couple of times where the duel animation delayed, I heard the gunshot and died before the character even reached for his gun. Reloading the checkpoint fixed it.

The skill tree is decent. Some skills noticeably improve gameplay while others are smaller upgrades, but that works fine for the type of shooter this is.

I usually don’t prioritize story in games, but the way it’s presented here is very entertaining. The whole game is Silas Greene telling his story in a saloon, and the world literally changes as he corrects or exaggerates parts of the story. That mechanic alone makes the game stand out.

The art style also holds up well. The comic-book look gives it a bit of a cel-shaded feel similar to Borderlands, and it still looks good today. The cinematic moments where the action freezes into comic-book style panels are a nice touch too and reinforce the game’s identity.

Difficulty scaling felt fair overall. Higher difficulties were challenging but manageable. The only downside is that the hardest difficulty is locked until you beat the previous one, which I’m personally not a fan of.

The campaign itself is fairly short, but if you’re going for achievements or 100% completion there’s still a decent amount of content. The arcade and duels mode add some extra challenges.

Overall, a very fun and stylish western shooter that doesn’t overstay its welcome.

Review after completing all achievements:

The game is simple and fun. There is nothing in it that takes too much patience to complete. You can just play at whatever pace you desire, although the highest difficulty will slow you down some, meaning you will unlock skills slower as moving faster earns you more xp. I would recommend a playthrough on lowest difficulty first, to unlock as many skills as you can, then a playthrough on hardest difficulty after. It will be easier, you will know what to expect, enemy spawns and have more skills unlocked.

The arcade mode is all about knowing when to use concentration to extend time between spawns or hit hard shots to keep your combo going. You will earn the 3 stars on most early ones with over 110k score from what I could tell, but some, like the last one, will require more. I scored around 140k on the last one and focussed on just surviving and ended up 2 stars on that run. After a few playthroughs of each you should 3 star them no problem.

I would keep the duel challenge till after the two story playthroughs, as they seem to be the same mechanics as the story duels. By the time you have done both playthroughs, you will have an idea of the mechanics of each fight and it will be a lot easier (who to shoot first on the duels with 2 opponents). After completing the story twice, I done this in two attempts.

The collectable are done very well compared to most games, almost all of them are easy to find and not far from the natural path you will take in the story. I found 45 of them on the first playthrough without looking too hard, just following the story. I would advise unlocking the skills that gives you a text and sound notification when you are close to one while hunting them. I collected the few harder to find ones on the second playthrough.

One thing I disliked is the gun options. You don't have must choice, although the special gun unlocks with skills is a nice touch. I found the shotguns useless, only using one to get a specific achievement. I never used them in story or arcade. This could have been because I left shotgun skills to unlock last out of the skills. Akimbo pistols were great on normal difficulty, but when on hardest difficulty they are useless, as you have no crosshair with them, so aiming is difficult. You are far better off with guns with iron sights when on harder difficulty.

I only came across two bugs, one was no problem, the other was annoying but nothing game breaking. When alt tabbing, sometimes certain buttons would not work. You would tab in and w would not register. This was fixed by tabbing in and out again. The more annoying one was the mouse cursor would show up on screen. You would have to close and re-open the game to fix this. Some times I'd play through it, some times I'd close and re-open to get rid of it.

Keep dynamite for shielded enemies, it makes life a lot easier.

Sinceramente uno de los mejores juegos con el tema de vaqueros que conozco. Lo jugaba desde que tenía probablemente 6 años cuando lo tenía en la playstation 3, me lo pasé al juego ahí y decidí comprarme el juego en Steam para platinarlo. Call of Juarez Gunslinger ist in vielen Ansichten anders als die vorigen Call of Juarez Spiele, die ernste Geschichten sind nun auf Humorvollen Erzählung sowie eben die Grafik zur Cartoon wurde. Ein alter Säufer betritt den Schuppen, bestellt das gewöhnliche um seine trockene Kehle etwas zu lindern. Es ist Silas Greaves, ein legendärer Kopfgeldjäger, er plauderte er hätte Billy the Kid sowie Jesse James 1V1 im Duell gewonnen, jedoch weiß Silas nicht ganz genau mehr ob es Wahrheitsgetreu erzählt wird oder flunkert. Zumindest bekommt er sein tägliches Medizin des Whiskeys zu schmecken.

Arcade-geballere mit Slowmotion-Funktion pro Tötung erhaltet man Punkte, je höher die Tötungscounter hin hoch schleudert umso mehr Punkte erhaltet man, die Punkte kann man durch Skills ausgegeben werden, damit man schneller ist als sein Schatten.

Si hay un shooter del Viejo Oeste que sigue sintiéndose fresco con el paso del tiempo, es Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. A diferencia de muchos juegos de su época, su apartado visual con estilo cel-shading no solo le da personalidad propia, sino que además ha envejecido sorprendentemente bien. Los colores cálidos, los contrastes marcados y esa estética de cómic hacen que hoy en día siga viéndose atractivo y estilizado, lejos de sentirse anticuado.

Pero donde realmente brilla es en lo satisfactorio que se siente disparar. Cada duelo es intenso, cada bala impacta con contundencia y el efecto de cámara lenta al ejecutar tiros precisos es simplemente adictivo. El sistema de concentración (esa mecánica de “quickdraw” en los duelos) captura perfectamente la fantasía de ser un pistolero legendario. Los disparos tienen peso, sonido potente y una respuesta inmediata que hace que encadenar bajas sea increíblemente gratificante.

Además, el juego mantiene un ritmo ágil, sin relleno innecesario. Es directo, divertido y entiende perfectamente lo que quiere ser: una experiencia arcade ambientada en el Lejano Oeste, con narrativa entretenida y tiroteos constantes.

Un gran, grandísimo juego. Juegatelo porque te pone en orden con algunas historietas maginificadas por hollywood.

Puede que no te agrade el cel-shaded en un shooter, a mi tampoco, pero realmente a este juego le sienta muy bien

Probably the most "Wild West FPS Shooter" you will ever play in your life. It has satisfying and engaging combat with a witty and interesting story backing it up. A must for shooter enjoyers and even more for those with a taste for the Wild West.

oyun 3 call of juarez oyunun en iyi oyunu değil maalesef ama kesinlikle çok iyi bir oyun indirimde 2 dolara aldım ve bence indirimde bu oyunu asla kaçırmayın tek oturuşta bitirdim 6 saate yakın sürdü ben keyfini çıkararak oynadım bana göre serinin en iyi oyunu bound in blood ama bu oyun onun eksiklerini kapatıyor öncellikle düello sistemi artık daha iyi ve meksika çıkmazıda var bu oyunda silah kullanımı önceki oyun olan bound in blood dan daha iyi(carteli adamdan saymıyorum) ama bu oyundada önceki 2 oyundaki gibi 2 karakter olarakta oynama olayı olsaydı daha çeşitli bir oynanış sağlanırdı oyunla ilgili söyleyeceğim negatif şey hikayesi çok iyi işlenmemiş düşük bütçeli olduğu belli gibi bu kısımdan ve oyunun normal modu kolay baya zevk alabilmek için zor modda oynadım bu oyunu iyi yapan yönleri ise oynanışı,akıcılığı, ve saatlerimi dolu dolu geçirmemi sağlaması kesinlikle öneriyorum

Wild Wild West!!!

There's just a unique charm associated with Call of Juarez games and this one is no different. While the story isn't as effective, the combat and the setting make it worth a go. The only other complaint is that it's too short.

Will rate it 8/10!!!

This game is insane how fun it is. Usually I don't pick up any Ubisoft games after being ripped off too many times but saw the Call Of Juarez pack on sale and decided to pick it up. 8/10 game. Here a list of my Pros and Cons.

Pros:
-Fun
-Art is awesome
-Soundtrack is fun
-Gun play is cool
-Fun upgrades
-Cool narrative
-Fun story
-"Movies" pay respect to the other games in the series

Cons:
-Ubisoft
-Can seem repetitive
-Draws can be TERRIBLE
-Not child friendly

Overall one of my favorite games ever, would pay full price for it. Hope this helped!

Если вы искали игру, где главный герой переписывает сюжет прямо на ходу, потому что "забыл, как всё было", то вы по адресу. Отличная стрельба, яркий стиль и возможность лично всадить пулю в каждую легенду Дикого Запада. 10 забытых подробностей из 10.

Had so much fun playing this but got stuck on the final boss. Put the game away for 1-2 years and when I came back my save was gone. I really want to finish this game but, for that to happen, I'll have to play it again from start. Which is what I've begun doing. Might take a couple of years because I'm in the middle of RDR2.

This is a great arcade shooter! I'd say this is as close as it gets to the feeling of playing Time Crisis in the arcade. Great, short and fun game.

a bit boring but its aight. the only part that really sticks with me are the duel mechanics cuz its unique & the hard part about the game. 5/10 mid. if u wanna try it i recommend getting it when its on sale, its just not worth it full price compared to other games

[h2] Gostei do jogo [/h2] ele tem muitas coisas divertidas, como a gameplay, o estilo gráfico, o modo de duelo, as conquistas dentro do jogo que conta historias reais dos acontecimentos, o jogo é legal ,mas, nada é perfeito. A Historia começa legal, mas vai ficando meio chatinha de acompanhar no caminho, como o protagonista ta contando vários acontecimentos que aconteceu com ele, parece que tu só vai sendo jogado de um lado pro outro, mas no final tem um plot que acaba compensando ter acompanhado o modo historia.

This game is just crappy and ugly. The dialogue is annoying, pathetic. I played the majority of the time with the game on mute. The story was botched. It was worse than playing any Borderlands game yet looked exactly like a Borderlands game. Pass on this game. Pass on all the Call of Juarez games. They just suck.

Очень хороший вестерн, правда сюжет основан на мести, но для этой игры это, думаю, не минус, также очень прикольная механика с историей на экране и историей в рассказе, иногда всё, что ты прошёл, было выдумкой, и ты начинаешь сначала, но уже правильно, визуал тоже норм, жаль нет больше игр этой серии

I beat the story in one 4 hour sitting and I have to say, if you like a good western shooter with an interesting story (not award winning), then this is the game for you. It cut all the bs from the other two games and focused on what brought you here in the first place: being a sick ass cowboy who can win any gunfight.
