This game is super fun, and I definitely recommend when on sale.

The good
1) fun destructible environments
2) tactical game play that's easy to learn and tough to master
3) reasonably creative lore

The not so good:
1) The tank-style control seems needlessly clunky. We can do better isometric movement, the technology has existed for a while.

The terrible:
1) the last few missions give you a scalpel to do the job of the hammer, and are thus needlessly difficult.

More importantly, they are tedious and not fun. They are supposed to be hard, I know.
But those missions left such a bad taste in my mouth that I haven't picked up the game since then, and doubt I will again any time soon.

That's my only complaint, but it's a big one.

On a different note:
The game would benefit so much from a rogue-like mode.

Overall, definitely worth it when on sale, great game play and a great game that is only soured by the last 2-3 missions.

I genuinely love this game, 9/10; War crimes feel forced as hell sometimes because ♥♥♥♥ AI that refuses to move or cross a disabled panic wall, civilians that die walking into you when stationary, suicidal friendly fire galore, and shanties built around explosive ♥♥♥♥ such as objectives, but those are nitpicks. My problems lie elsewhere...

The community moderation staff is very quick to just blacklist you from everything for being too loud and annoying in the Discord. Like, I don't even think I posted to the Reddit and got banned from it just for joining IIRC. Seriously, don't piss these guys off if you wanna mod the game without worrying as much about breaking it because you gotta do it alone. They're on a hair trigger.

EDIT: I found the mod pack file limit. 100MB. Removed the complaint as a result.

I rate Brigador: Up-Armored Edition 3.5/5. Pretty good overall.

Brigador is a third person, isometric, top-down perspective, armored urban-combat game which lets you control a wide variety of ground-based vehicles including small bikes, hover cars, hover tanks, treaded tanks and walking tanks. The game’s impressive variety of vehicles ranges from motorcycle-sized to building-sized. Despite the game’s distant, aerial perspective, Brigador’s usually tight urban combat is brutal, unforgiving and horrific featuring extensive collateral damage and many gory civilian casualties (though the various gory combat incidents are always kept far away from your distant perspective and so appear tiny and, to the player, insignificant). Despite a wide variety of vehicles to control and a huge number of different missions to play, Brigador’s biggest downside is how repetitive its gameplay can become.

What makes Brigador pretty good:

+ The environments are highly destructible and this drastically increases Brigador’s sense of grittiness and horror. The game’s seemingly amoral, detached and distant aerial perspective causes the urban mechanized combat in this game to feel even more chilling. The weapons you have in Brigador are extremely powerful and the battle areas are fairly dense, urban environments. Miss your target in the midst of fast-paced combat and your shots will cause significant collateral damage and may presumably cause many civilian deaths. Battles in Brigador often reduce entire city blocks to flattened, blackened rubble in seconds and nearly all buildings, trees, vehicles and people in the battle area can be pulverized. I did think it was odd that no fires ever broke out though and there were no moving civilian vehicles in the streets (all the vehicles appear to have been abandoned).

+ A wide variety of weapons and vehicles can eventually be unlocked and used in freelance mode and they are all fun to try at least once though some are far more useful than others.

+ Brigador: Up-Armored Edition is a very long game with a huge amount of content. I played it for roughly 70 hours in total. It features numerous campaign missions and even more of the far more fun, far more open-ended freelance mode missions (which are based off of the campaign mode missions but which (once you manage to unlock them all) allow you to choose whatever character (aka: difficulty), weapon loadout and vehicle you want to use for each mission.

+ Brigador also has many fun and interesting game options which don’t necessarily prevent steam achievements from being awarded (contrary to what the game warns). I was able to get steam achievements for completing campaign missions even with the invisibility cheat menu option turned on. You can also dramatically slow down the speed at which the game moves, allowing you to play entire battles in slow-motion if you wish; useful if fast-paced, chaotic action isn’t your thing.

+ Fairly low system requirements.

+ No bugs whatsoever. I noticed no problems, hiccups or slow downs whatsoever. Brigador worked perfectly.

What’s mediocre about Brigador:

+/- While the graphics are quite detailed, they are also quite small on my 1920 by 1080 resolution screen and there is no actual way to zoom in and out on the little details in the game world. I also wished I had some sort of ground-level or zoomed in replay mode so I could watch my battles from the perspective of the little people on the ground. The combat in Brigador often felt as though it had a sort of Kaiju monster movie aspect to it (vaguely like the old Rampage Kaiju arcade game) which was never fully realized.

+/- The controls can be hard to get used to at first but once you do they’ll eventually feel quite intuitive. The controls are extremely responsive and all keys can be easily rebound.

+/- Certain missions in the main campaign can be incredibly frustrating which is what lead me to try out the invisibility cheat option I mentioned above. It is good these game designers realized how frustrating some of their main campaign missions can be and so included the occasionally useful and fun cheat options.

What’s bad about Brigador:

-Brigador barely has a story and what story it does have is amoral and largely irrelevant, serving as a shallow excuse to allow you, the player, to eventually use any of the game’s vehicles to fight against any of the game’s enemies in any of the game’s environments.

-There is no spoken dialogue. There are no alternate endings. There are no plot decisions to be made. The game’s “story” entirely takes the form of mission briefings and weapon and vehicle and character files to be unlocked and read between missions.

-Brigador’s unlockable files do feature a lot of world-building but the derivative, dark, amoral cyberpunk world they describe isn’t very interesting.

-To make matters worse, the game’s “characters” are functionally the same as different difficulty level presets. Want to make the game easier or harder? You must choose to play as a different character. Tying difficulty to the use of different characters is a questionable and bizarre design choice which prevents you from ever being allowed to become attached to any particular character, even if you wanted to be.

-Brigador’s terrain is very flat. There are no significant hills, mountains, deep rivers or lakes to deal with. Buildings are never extremely tall. There’s usually a lot of buildings around but they’re never skyscrapers. This makes the game feel odd sometimes and makes the gameplay even more repetitive.

- The peppy, happy-go-luckly, upbeat techno music not only gets repetitious but also severely detracts from the game’s sense of grittiness and brutal, horrific combat. Brigador has one of the most inappropriately chosen soundtracks I have ever heard in any game. Before long, I turned the music volume all the way down and began playing different music from a music player (MusicBee) on my desktop (occasionally accessing it by using the Windows key to force the Windows start menu to become visible even when whole the game was in full screen mode (which happily did not disrupt the game)).

- Needing to unlock items for use in freelance mode is an irritating and artificial-feeling game design decision. I would prefer everything the game has to offer be unlocked by default so I can play around with it as much or as little as I wish. Being effectively forced into completing missions with difficult-to-use and fragile vehicles to get big payoffs (to avoid having to grind for money by playing really long missions with reasonable vehicles) is not extremely fun.

Thankfully, I was able to effectively make huge amounts of in-game money fairly quickly by playing a certain, relatively easy mission (the late-game mission where all you have to do is destroy one heavy Corvid tank) with certain fragile vehicles (using certain ones which pay out with a 50x multiplyer) repeatedly (equipped with the sonic cannon vehicle ability).

- Brigador: Up-Armored Edition gets repetitive and it does so before you’ve unlocked everything. Every mission is merely about blowing stuff up. The different types of vehicles and weapons and enemies add variety but if you play this game you’ll want to also play other games on the side to break the monotony.

-There is no penalty for killing civilians and causing collateral damage to civilian buildings. Indeed, your monetary rewards slightly increase the more damage you do and the more civilians you massacre. While the background plot may be amoral overall (at best), Brigador slightly rewards you with a mild amount of monetary gain for being outright evil, gently encouraging you to commit atrocities against unarmed civilians.

Brigador is an iceberg; its depth is in nuance. Every time I play, I find some new wrinkle I hadn't noticed before in how a weapon fires, or what I can accomplish by firing it differently. I'll notice which districts have explosive pipelines running through the slums, or switchbacks created by unbreakable district walls.

Feeling a sense of exploration and discovery in *mechanics and gamefeel* is such a treat.

Brigador rewards attention, focus, methodical thinking, and tactical play.

If you enjoy speculative fiction from Heinlein or Haldeman, you will enjoy this game's writing. If you enjoy writing being shared through lore entries attached to proper nouns, you will also enjoy how the writing is presented to you. I'm looking forward to the book.

If by some statistical freak you recognize the title 'Body Armor 2000,' buy this game immediately and enjoy luxuriantly scratching some cognitive itches you forgot you had.

Агрессивный инди среднячок, если вам нравится ходить и стрелять в разрушаемых локациях без особого смысла то вам понравится, графика стильная, оружия тут куча, техники тоже, сражаться здесь приятно, саундтрек тоже неплох.
Из минусов: миссии однообразные (иди убей тех или иди взорви то в разных вариациях), сюжета тут очень мало и основная часть информации о мире игры тут в местной энциклопедии (а тут её не мало), в некоторых миссиях сложность бывает ненормальная, ИИ довольно туповат, ещё стандартные настройки управления странные, я так и не понял как на них играть, лучше поменяйте.
И не ждите особо быстрого экшена, тут акцент больше на тактику чем на адское мочилово на арене смерти.
В целом на любителя, повеселится несколько часов или повыполнять испытания. Если такое нравится берите по скидке.

I cannot emphasize this enough, play with the vehicle relative controls instead of default screen absolute. It's more of a learning curve but once you come to grips with it you'll have so much better control over your vehicle.

Otherwise this is a rare genuine 10/10 experience. What complaints I have (very occasional ambiguous targeting) are more just a trait of the genre than anything I can criticize the developers for. I don't really like the antigrav vehicles but that's more on my end, good chances you'll like them.

Simply an amazing game. Not much else to say. Fantastic lore with some of the best presentation of it, beautiful artstyle, a wide variety of vehicles, levels and gameplay styles. In terms of the gameplay itself - it's almost like Hotline Miami's mayhem/action-based puzzles, but instead of building up score through combos you instead strategically destroy enemies and marked structures while avoiding raising alarms by swiftly eliminating spotter enemies. There is a bit of a difficulty spike when you finish the original 20 or so levels and enter the Up-Armored editions levels, but it's very much manageable. A must if you like western/tank-on-legs style of mechs or just a fun of low-scifi dystopias

本作はストーリーを進めるキャンペーンモードとフリーランスモードがありますが、いきなりフリーランスを進めるのはお勧めしません。キャンペーン序盤でチュートリアルも兼ねているからです。

本作の良い点は、ミニチュアみたいな世界を、ほんのり重厚感を感じられるメカで破壊できること。
フリーランスでは、パイロットやユニット、メイン・サブ武器を選択（買い切り）してステージを攻略できること。

残念な点は、キャンペーンだと自由に武装などを選択できないこと。アーマードコアをプレイされたことがあれば、その辛さがわかると思います。

Fell in love with this little game long before I even knew that for some reason it spikes the cortisol of left-wing chuds, which in fairness seems to be a very recent phenomenon. If some of the devs hadn't allegedly been le heckin' bigots a few months ago or whatever they're being accused of, these "people" would be eating this game up the same way they do with all the other synthwave, amoral dystopia, cyperpunk retroslop that they typically gush about/appropriate. In fact that seems to be exactly the case, as many smearing the devs have dozens of hours, meaning they were having fun until they were mugged by the reality of not every indie dev being a wholesome chungus. In any case, these kvetchers comprise a tiny fraction of an otherwise enthusiastic playerbase and should be given little thought beyond what I've said so far.
There isn't much else to say except that it's relatively simple gameplay-wise, and pretty small in scope, you'll likely do everything of note in a few hours. If you enjoy it, and can master the movement and gunnery, it's very satisfying and replayable. On sale, it's definitely worth it, perhaps not so much at full price. I'll mention "Mech Havoc" as being a similar/inspired game for those who like Brigador.

I'm going to give it a yes even though I don't reeeaaally like it. I don't like that you play the bad person and get an achievement for killing civilians. I don't like that it's sometimes unclear why you can't hit another vehicle. The music is awesome, the controls are responsive, the world building is cool and so are the weapons and vehicles. I play a few missions a few times, then quit, then come back. So... I don't know.

想刷钱的话可以做主线的时候把钱留着，然后在采购里把叛击士最后那位先祖买了，再买行动契约里的“这才不是游戏”那一关。选用乌鸦的流氓三轮车配上两管107迫击炮，这关在你打掉最终目标之前所有敌军都被封在门后，可以提前用迫击炮的曲射全部打掉后再把最终目标打掉，2分钟不到一局下来1亿4

Ich habe Brigador aus einem Humble Monthly Bundle erhalten. Leider hat mich das Spiel nicht wirklich abgeholt. Mein größtes Problem ist ganz klar die Steuerung.

Mit Controller kam ich überhaupt nicht zurecht – für mich fühlte sich das komplett ungeeignet an. Maus und Tastatur haben zwar besser funktioniert, aber auch das nur leidlich: Die Steuerung wirkt unübersichtlich, hakelig und nie wirklich präzise. Gerade in hektischen Situationen sorgt das mehr für Frust als für Spielspaß.

Dazu kommt, dass ich nie so richtig verstanden habe, was das Spiel eigentlich sein will. Twin-Stick-Shooter, Arcade-Action oder doch eher etwas Taktisches? Von allem ein bisschen, aber nichts davon richtig klar ausgearbeitet.

Die Grafik ist in Ordnung, allerdings teilweise sehr dunkel und überladen, was die ohnehin schon unklare Steuerung nicht gerade unterstützt. Positiv hervorheben möchte ich die Musik – der Soundtrack gefällt mir wirklich gut und passt zur Atmosphäre.

Unterm Strich hat mir Brigador nicht gefallen. Ich kann das Spiel nicht empfehlen und werde es vermutlich auch nicht zu Ende spielen.

You get to ride in big stompy mechs, cool tanks, and fun hover cars and blow everything up to an awesome synthwave soundtrack. What more do you need?

The art is top-notch, and definitely adds a unique flavor. Music is, as mentioned above, excellent with a nice variety of tracks. Sound design is great too, as the weapons, explosions, and movement feel appropriate to whatever vehicle and locale you pick. Even the lore gets in-depth, with plenty of unlockable detail if you choose so.

Gameplay is solid and straightforward, but with plenty of depth depending on your vehicle and weapon loadout - even more so in freelancer mode. The only thing to warn new players is that learning the movement controls MAY take some getting used to, especially if you're expecting twin-stick controls. The adjusted/simplistic setup from the Up-Armored Edition can work for most, but you should learn tank controls for the best experience. Aside from that, the combat is quick and variable with plenty of replay value.

Overall, Brigador is well worth a shot of your time.

-actually tactical combat in that regard, firearm height and angling, arcs, easily immediately disorienting but you'll rapidly latch onto the exact weapon|weapon|weapon|vehicle that you want, or the idea of what you want at least
-ONE OF THE BEST CODEX/LORE compilations ive seen inside a game. all unlocked with $$ which is gotten through the games various run sized modes. $ can be spent on chassis and equipment, but i prefer to buy quotes from a contextually acceptable mechanophile
-cruelty squad inclusion you can play as an empty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and wail on civilians. wonderful if the violent european policeman is added in the future. he does come w a customizable platform, and from a similar setting of ground warfare
-mortar kiting, become a wobbly artillery dashing behind the cover of residential homes or forests of giant tombstones. or the local park
-or just drive a car around that has a very rigid aiming orientation
-theres melee and its a pain in the ass to really get going, its more for environmental bashing
-theres an anti infantry radiation gun, you dont wanna be in a setting where x ray guns are staining parts of the world where there are riots

-if you choose a weird combo of firearms and car, the game might seem ♥♥♥♥ all of a sudden. every actor in the game is using a combo too, and you may have chosen the set of, like, a minor grunt type
-horizontal aim sway introduces a delay, which is realistic in a lovely haptic sense but is also a bother as you get really really panicked in a fight and start switching between wide targets like you're holding a halberd wrong
-the ammo depots blow up if you approach and start unloading your remaining ammo on them, and the explosion does a lot of damage to you
-no multiplayer, but the extensive blog posts explain how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard that is, as everyone should know

Do not buy it if you think it's simple arcade twin stick shooter, it's not. It has an high learning curve and requires a lot of patience to learn it's trick in order to enjoy it, I do not recommend this game to most people.

It tries to be kind of realistic in it's control and aiming but neither system really works. The control is an convoluted "Tank control" that takes forever to get used to, it might works from a third person view point, but not from a top-down view.

The aiming is also a problem, you have to account for the range of the enemy when you are aiming, like if you want to aim for an target very near you, you have to aim "in front of" the enemy in order to hit it, I know it's hard to understand and it's hard for me to explain as well, that's why I'm saying this system doesn't work, should have been just a simple arcade style shooter instead of this weird in between.

It doesn't help that random looking building would blow up for no reason and kills you instantly, no I'm not talking about some obvious target like ammo depot or gas station, its easy to tell those building would blow up so I kept my distance, I'm talking about some residential building or shopping mall with neon signs, you roll over 10 of them - no problem, roll over another same looking one, boom, instant death, it's dumb and cheap it adds nothing to a already mediocre game.

Also the AI is almost none exsistent, all they do is bum-rush you once they spotted you, there's not much tactic except for gaining distance and finding cover from larger enemies, I mean for a game that controls like a tactical game, this sure don't feels like very tactical to me, again, should have been just an arcade shooter.

I tried to like this game, I really did, I mean the art style is pretty good and I love the sci-fi setting, unfortunatly it's just not a good game.

I've been enjoying this one. It does have replay ability but once you've completed a series of missions it's easy to put down as the action can feel a little stale and repetitive (once you've completed a few missions in a row it can feel like the same thing over and over.) That said, I've come back to the game more than a few times (as my hours will show.)

I have a few minor gripes about the game play:
1. I hate using tanks. The tank controls are not at all intuitive and it's easy to become lost when trying to turn them to face enemies
2. It's easy for the targeting cursor to get lost behind all of the flashes from fire fights. Also, it's easy to miss some long distance shots as it can be unclear as to whether you're shooting too short or too long of a target. The number of times I've lost the opportunity of a surprise strike because I've managed to shoot either too short or too wide is mad.
3. It can be difficult to tell which mechs have bodies which can rotate 360 degrees and it can be infuriating having to reorientate your torso in the middle of a battle to bring all of your good weapons to bear.

Some stuff I've really enjoyed:
1. I love having a huge number of enemies to mow down especially as they can come from you at all angles bringing a real range of different types of weapons.
2. Fire fights at night can be a lot of fun with explosions and tracer rounds blazing away.
3. Destructible scenery which you can use to make tactical attacks is a lot of fun (and being rewarded for smashing it as well.)

Such a great game. A top-down perspective for running around blowing things up. So many different ships/tanks/mechs/weapons/characters to unlock and play. The campaign has levels where in order to fully complete the level, you have to play it up to 4 times with 4 different ships that each have different weapons and different armor and speed (but you only need to complete it once to unlock the next level). There is also a freelance mode to play with to earn money to unlock more stuff - from unlocking ships, weapons, lore, characters, and more levels. I love the added lore, which many games like this don't have, and the crazy amount of customization of the UI. I also recently found out there is a novel and audio book as well!

The whole game has a vibe to it that so many great games posses. It's consistently a game I come back to to play for 15 min or so. Currently messing around with the level editor to build some levels. I would love to see a sequel to this game.

粗看是个很精致但是简单的爽游，场景破坏很到位，嗯，美术和音乐都很棒，别的呢？没了吗？毕竟本质上是个街机游戏，没有任何养成环节，随便打几个战役关卡也就能体会到大部分玩法内容了……
但是游戏的本体不在这里。在主菜单打开采购选项，然后仔细对着百科条目一条条读过去，机体，地区，还有驾驶员，那才是游戏的核心。我有时候怀疑他们到底为什么要做这么个游戏，就好像有几千字设定和十几页原画的角色刚出场就被炸成灰一样，这游戏的背景设定丰富程度和简易的街机玩法简直不是一个量级。
可惜的是碎片的玩法与战役叙事影响很大，玩家只能靠读设定脑补故事……期待续作吧。

I really like the idea of a top down vehicle combat game and they have genuinely put a lot of effort and love behind this. There is a lot of vehicles and a lot of missions to try them on. I really wanted to recommend it but ultimately I found it to be unenjoyable, rather pointless beyond the few hours of gameplay and hard to justify playing beyond or even until then.

I hate the controls. You will often get confused which way is forward or left/right as the indicator is barely visible, it gets lost during combat. There's faster vehicles that trade armor for speed but they just end up being challenge vehicles because of this. So two of every four vehicle given to you sucks. Not to mention the barely visible debris or dead units that can block your movement mid combat... Target cross hair is also hard to read, often hard to determine where the mortars falls. We are this far into the future but this is the best targeting tech we apparently get.

Enemy AI is pretty basic with only one tactic of bomb rushing you with no regard for their lives. This and the constant need to take their shields/ammo kind of limits the way you can approach them, basically the whole game is baiting them into your shots in moderate amounts so you don't get overrun. I also don't like how they are often hidden by buildings or have their lights off until you alert them which makes stealth or taking them out carefully even more difficult...

Then there is the lack of warnings towards instant deaths, given the unforgiving nature of the game these just feel unfair. Why do random buildings blow up and why does the game constantly introduce new ones!? Why do they one shot my mech when it normally takes multiple heavy shots to even break my shields?! The blast radius is also hard to determine and It doesn't feel natural or fair to instantly perish seemingly out of nowhere. Genuinely made me quit when I finished a mission just to die to a random building that can apparently blow up...

Then there is the story. The missions are plenty but rather repetitive, the gameplay often clunky and unsatisfying due to controls, this leaves the story as the sole driving force for you to keep going. Unfortunately the only story is the walls of texts spread out between descriptions, unlocks and mission briefings (which also cost your hard earned money btw) I doubt most people would even bother reading or piece together.

The whole game feels like a demo without purpose. The campaign is basically glorified challenges. Difficulty curve doesn't exist, you can have super easy missions or super hard ones right after another based on vehicles you get to pick. In fact missions don't seem to get harder only lengthier as the objectives never change. There is no sense of progression. It only throws money at you to spend on freelance on vehicles you can't even try out before purchasing, unless you have played them in campaign. Money gain rate in campaign is anemic, you barely get 5mil from one mission in the best case scenario when there is dozens of vehicles and equipment that cost multiple millions. It all boils down to having to play freelance to unlock stuff, which feels more of a campaign than the campaign itself because it at least lets you bring your own stuff. However It genuinely sucks not having the ability to save loadouts, given the number of combinations you can make.

Lastly, I love the designs of the vehicles and the overall look of the game. However I despise how most of the pilots look. Its off putting to say the least when everything else looks so good. The decision to redact their pictures until you buy them is also stupid.

看上去挺精緻的雙搖桿射擊遊戲，特色是像素美術與可破壞場景，不過任務內容千篇一律，我下載這遊戲又刪除至少 3 遍了，累積的遊戲時數才 1 小時你就知道這遊戲有多無聊。一個「100% 完成任意的自由契約」的簡單成就我大約 1 小時就獲得了，全球紀錄卻顯示只有 25% 玩家達成，我想如果不是大部分玩家都玩的不夠深入，不然就是給予好評的玩家技術不精吧。簡單來說這遊戲只有外表吸睛，實際玩起來單調無變化，完全不推薦入手。

Half of Stellar Jockeys is a genuinely terrible person that doesn't deserve your money.

The other half was aware enough about this to make a twitter apology post saying that his words in the past (less than a week from the statement) shouldn't reflect the views of their works and that the offending party been removed from the team for the sequel; he'd later mention that he'd brought him back on less than three months afterwards in the same tone as a mild annoyance that they'd planned around.

I mean, they ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ made the game in the same room.

Don't buy this game, don't buy Brigador Killers. Don't even pirate it. Even the audiobook author was an actual neo-nazi. I hope someone plunders every single good idea this game had so I can credit someone that isn't a virulent fascist.
