Short but very memorable experience! The story they are trying to tell is ... okay. However, I felt the respect the devs had in telling the story and it felt like it was made for me. Thank you!
Though, the game is not without its flaws. The controls are a bit clunky and I was lost a couple of times on how to progress. However, if you have 5 dollars to spare, I do recommend trying the game.

В основном это чистая сублимация своих собственных переживаний разработчиками, и этого вполне достаточно для отклика потребителя с самыми положительными эмоциями. Эта же игра просто не может существовать без диалога Разработчика и Игрока с разделением общих культурных и психологических впечатлений, начиная с яркого окружения в детстве и заканчивая тусклой депрессией и неопределённостью будущего. Игра говорит с игроком на понятном языке, как бы кивая на каждый сочувственный взгляд.
Так что мы видим в самой игре?
В ней два пласта. Первый - реализованные в формате квеста сюрреалистические воспоминания героя о собственном прошлом и многих попытках сбежать от проблем и непонятности, сложности и враждебности мира с его страхами, болью и бессмысленностью, что, зачастую, возможно лишь в виртуальном мире и собственном воображении. Второй пласт - это сами игры в их максимально оголённой простоте формата "бей и беги" с принимаемой ролевой моделью рыцаря в сияющих доспехах с понятными и простыми установками: есть Герой и все остальные, кого нужно победить, никаких полутонов и интриг, "до и после", никакой реальной ответственности за свою жизнь и судьбу.
В этом смысле BMATN является квинтэссенцией самого понятия эскапизма, не скатывающейся при этом в глупую пошлость бездушной прямолинейности и довольно неплохо раскрывающей его возможные причины. В соприкосновении двух пластов рождается общая картина стагнации личности в реальности, где жизнь как таковая перестаёт иметь смысл, а игра - конец. Поэтому всё оборачивается постепенным сужением реальности от большого дома в детстве до крохотной съёмной квартиры во взрослом возрасте, от обилия совершенно ненужных деталей до нескольких ещё как-то выделяющихся на общем сером фоне; в то же время виртуальность углубляется, прогрессирует и начинает главенствовать над всем остальным, а квестовая вдумчивая часть истории уступает слешеру и платформингу, что тоже отражает сужение взглядов с возрастом и общее разочарование жизнью и её сложностью.
Эта игра - процесс глубокого самокопания с выгодно реализованными в стилистике и геймплейном повествовании наблюдениями за кризисом среднего возраста у человека, чью жизнь почти всё время сопровождают виртуальные реальности. Но, чтобы не считать это каким-то единичным признаком, говорящим о проблеме только как о современной тенденции, попробуйте подставить что-нибудь другое: алкоголь, наркотики, религию, спорт, чтение, просмотр сериалов, творчество, насилие, секс, музыку, сталкерство, поиск скрытых смыслов там, где их нет - и вам может стать действительно страшно.

It's very.... "indie game" in a way that isn't necessarily a good thing. I didn't find it interesting or compelling, and I found the artstyle to be pretty bog-standard. I think it was trying to give me an introspective moment... a look into someone else's life... but it didn't deliver that experience in a way that made me care.

At first glance, Between Me and The Night looks like an interesting game. It looks nice visually and does a good job of creating the atmosphere and the intrigue. Unfortunately, the game is let down by clumsy controls. Interacting with objects opens the inventory every time, even when the object just produces a description and cannot be picked up. You then have to close the inventory to move again, and that whole song and dance never became second nature even a few hours in. The developer's lack of respect for players' time is the real nail in the coffin, however. There is no save feature and if you cannot finish a chapter in one sitting, you have to replay the whole thing all over again. After 3 hours, I have replayed the second chapter twice, only to have it glitch out and not trigger the final interaction, and I have no desire to replay it a third time. It's a shame because there was a good game here and all it needed was a little more polish.

I really loved the story and the graphic style, and a great word play for night and knight! Just a bit of a trigger warning. Please be careful if you are feeling depressed and have self harm thoughts. Overall great job!
Sure, the game isn’t perfect and has a few flaws – the ending is disappointing and the minigames feel quite pointless – but they are forgiveable simply because the game is fun, with a storyline and gameplay that are thoroughly enjoyable.

I get that the devs put a lot of time and effort on this, but the controls are terrible, the 1000 knights level's very last spike is nearly impossible to go through. I mean it's an okay game. No hate towards the devs, perhaps it's their first game. If that's the case, then they made a good game.

Well, the game is entertaining, mostly. There are many things that appear to be puzzles that you need to solve but that end up being nothing, just... ¿to confuse the player, maybe? Things that are for ambiance are not interactive, but things that are manipulable are also for ambiance, mixed up with the real elements needed for the puzzles. Not very friendly for the player, that should be bewildered by the puzzles and not by a bunch of nonsensical items with no real importance. There is some platforming action that is annoying. The art is nice to look at. Some puzzles are head-scratchers but not really that hard. The game is good for the casual player.
The story is intriguing at first but later feels just like is the story of the life of some dude (developer) that thinks his life is interesting (but is not). I don't think this is a surreal game, feels more like a personal auto-therapy disguised as a game. "Get inside my head, dude, it's crazy!" Nah, a pretty common set of childhood trauma and later of boring adulthood. Anyway, it includes cards and achievements. Get it for cheap and you might have some fun, just some.
The controls are plain and simple bad and unintuitive, either on keyboard and mouse or gamepad.
I tried to play this game in the last years a couple of times, because the artstyle and sound of the game are amazing, but everytime I struggle with the controls.
A game is not fun, if you are constantly fighting with the controls of the game.

I have two hours in Between Me and The Night as of writing this review. I got soft locked 3 times. Once because I moved some boxes and trapped myself, twice because a monster ate me right as I was moving rooms. Speaking of the monster, it got me 2 or 3 times because it managed to spawn right on top of me. Really annoying. I didn't have time to finish the house level in one go so I got set back to the beginning a 4th time because the game only saves if you complete a level, which can take up to an hour on the first time trying. The controls also don't feel so well to use. The walking and sprinting is slow, you cannot jump off of climbable objects and you cannot walk while in point and click mode. Over all I feel I haven't seen much of the story yet, simply because I keep having to do things over and over again.
However, I feel like these are issues that are totally fixable. If you are a developer of this game and you are reading this: I would advise you to look at some other similar games that feel better to control and see how they do it, and put in a few hours to polish this one. The mechanics in a game are so important. Even thought he music is pretty good (especially the brother's record) and the art style and character designs are great, and the story seems interesting so far the game just isn't *fun*, and because of that I don't really feel like playing more of it. Here's hoping for an update that fixes a few things! I would love to see what else the game has to offer then.
edit: I just found out this game was released in 2015. So I guess an update probably isn't happening.

在我的家乡，胡同被叫作「过道」，意思很明朗，这就是用来走过去的地方，可入夜之后便没那么好过去咯。尽管它是被两侧房屋人家挤出来的路，静地里能听到狗吠或者猫叫，感受到人气，可还是无法消除纵深里游动的恐惧。害怕走夜路的人深陷其中，会前后难以照应，仿佛被乌漆嘛黑给攥住了，而夜色像一只猫，逗弄着心里颤巍巍的夜行者，自古如是，鬼神大多在夜间逡巡，连远方的狼人与吸血鬼也不例外，甚至过节的时候，全世界都得重视「前夜」概念，万圣夜与除夕锚定彼时彼刻必然发生故事，它们被习俗晕染，乍看之下如同狂欢的引线，然而从年兽或者南瓜的角度思考片刻，谁不得长叹一声：这不就是上班嘛！恐怖不！

As with so many other indie games the themes of trauma, depression and sorrow are here. This is clearly a very personal game, and I'm not questioning the vision behind the game, it has a fairly basic but functioning artstyle and tells its story well, but it lacks severely in the gameplay department.

The puzzles are not especially difficult, the main problem you have is that there are monsters that chase you in the levels, but it's mostly random and more of a annoyance than a obstacle. The controls are also abysmal, both in the arcade bits and when you walk around. I dunno, I don't regret my time with the game, but it's also not something I can really recommend.
El juego está bien, en el apartado gráfico esta trabajado, eso si, es muy corto. Tiene una buena perspectiva aunque la cantidad de desinformación es en algunos casos más elevada de lo normal.
La historia, no me enteré de la película, supongo que es algo referente a la esquizofrenia o la ansiedad y como superarlo? ni idea. Aun así la idea de los enemigos, del avance y de los puzzles está muy bien, y del afán de superación, es bonito, pero te quedas con un "ah bueno, terminé...". Supongamos que se centra en la introspección del personaje y de su evolución desde joven a adulto.
En sí el juego da para mucho más, tiene mucho sin explotar, y para jugarlo tienes que tener una mente bien amplia.

游戏性的话其实一般，没攻略非常难，所以想玩的话最好还是看看攻略。

На первый взгляд проект совершенно не выглядит как нечто способное увлечь и восхитить игрока, но спустя несколько часов Between Me and The Night (2016) превратится в некое путешествие ностальгию.
Здесь и вполне классические для 90-х параллели на игры с консоли NES, и откровенные на Wizards & Warriors, и сама атмосфера взросления но удержания любви к хобби видеоиграм реализована на крутейшем уровне.
В меня эта игра попала, пускай она далеко не To The Moon (2011) и не Night in the Woods (2017); но как проект рассказывающий и дающий почувствовать она работает, а моментами заставляет вспомнить теплые моменты из прошлого.

The title mentions this, and the same thought runs like a red thread through the whole story - a story about a man, about life and about struggle. Starting at a very young age, we go through – and live through – filled with sadness and detachment. The story of an escapist boy who grows up to be a man forced to piece his own life together like a jigsaw puzzle with missing pieces. Will he have enough determination and those details that he has to become the same as the characters from his favorite childhood video games?

● [b]Great visual and sound design[/b]. Color, light, music – sometimes the process of going through becomes the ultimate pleasure.
● [b]Mini-games are well built into the narrative of the story[/b]. Mini-games dilute the rather monotonous gameplay. The player, therefore, is not locked up, doomed to be wandering in a location. Sometimes the player is allowed to escape to the other worlds along with the main character of the story, and mini-games, as the plot cuts, or just as a distraction, make the gameplay more diverse and richer to some extent. The quality of the implementation of mini-games is very doubtful, though, but more on that later.
● [b]Stealth elements[/b] make a bored player come to their senses. There are enemies here, and in the reality the character doesn’t have a sword, as if he were in the world of his favorite video game knight, so all the figments of a child's imagination, including ghosts and monsters, have to be bypassed. It may turn out that at some point the player realizes that there are a bunch of useless things collected in the inventory and it’s unclear if they are useful after all. This seems to be a completely unnecessary option that adds absolutely senseless difficult level to the project and sometimes confuses when passing through some specific moments of the story.
● [b]The mini-games have absolutely terrible and unintuitive controls[/b]. While mini-games are perfectly well-built into the narrative model of the story, they are also absolutely unintuitive and lack of proper controls. For the very first time playing mini-games, it can be unclear what to do and where to go, considering the fact that the character in mini-games is barely controllable due to sensitivity and controls scheme. At the same time, mini-games are necessary to go through, that is, to complete the story, you’ll have to struggle. And some achievements are tied to certain progress in mini-games which you only can complete once through the game. So you either succeed or you don't.
● [b]There are no manual saves here[/b]. I completed the game with 100% achievements and it should be mentioned that there were several achievements that made me feel quite stressed. The fact is that you don’t want to replay the game, since it’s slow and sometimes even boring. Considering that there are no manual saves, getting some achievements turns into a kind of wild chances. And even if you don’t want to get all the achievements, but you need to turn off the game and leave, you have to head to [b]the next checkpoint first which in the beginning of the every next chapter[/b]. Otherwise, you'll start at the beginning of the current chapter.

[b]Before buying Between Me and The Night, you need to carefully consider whether it’ll be of interest to you[/b]. First of all, you need to know that this is less of a game and more of a deep visual story with elements of the game. You won't get a fun gaming experience, and rather get headaches from the mini-games, but you might be hooked by the deep sad story about the escapism and hardships of growing up as a man who, for some reason, wants to remain a child forever.
The story is told without words, which is unusual, but gives each person the freedom to interpret it. [b]It, however, left me indifferent[/b]. Since I’m the kind of person who rarely feels alone or wants to escape from reality, I didn't feel fully involved in the story. I would even say that I felt out of place in this story, as if I shouldn't have watched it. Together with all the cons, this fact slightly spoiled my overall impressions, too. On the other hand, in this case, I feel like I have no liberty to judge the plot, because it looks like something very personal. [b]Someone, perhaps, will respond to this experience[/b], because, besides, it also has some good sides. [b]I’d rather say that this is a neutral review[/b], and you decide for yourself if you want to try to dive into this story.
I understand that the game has "mixed" reviews. It is an original retro game, maybe indie category. It is an adventure but there is not so much action. A little of surrealism and maybe images from a mad mind. Most of it is positive, including nice graphics. But I do not like the interface system of menu, inventory, using items and moving objects. I did not get used to that system until the end of the game. The game drags a bit and is a little boring. Perhaps it was intended as an image of wandering inside a sick mind. But I believe it should have been done differently or at least polish a little.
The game is quite good but I did not enjoy it.

[i]Between Me and The Night[/i] feels very polished in some regards, and there’s certainly a sense that a lot of passion was put into the project. Both the website for the game’s creators ([b]RainDance LX[/b]) and the website for the game itself are now dead links, and what information that remains about the development team largely exists on [url=https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/between-me-and-the-night#/]Indiegogo[/url], where the project failed to reach its funding goal.
The team was set to consist of 5 members, though the chiptune music artist known as ‘[i]Chipzel[/i]’, composer of [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/221640/Super_Hexagon/]Super Hexagon[/url] doesn’t seem to include Between Me and The Night’s soundtrack in her discography, either having dropped out of the project after the Indiegogo project’s failure, or simply having distanced herself from the game for other reasons. A team of 4, then, is - relatively speaking- rather small for a video game, but certainly nothing extraordinary. And for a relatively small team, there are some things that this game does rather well.

Your inventory has a finite amount of space, so you’re forced to discard potentially important items onto the floor, then later search for them once their purpose becomes apparent.

There are so many objects that you can interact with that’s it’s often difficult to discern what exactly is necessary for progression, and what isn’t. There are no audio cues to imply when you are in danger, and a death will merely unceremoniously boot you back to where you started, and in doing so potentially leave you vulnerable to the possibility of…
[*]Glitches. I was respawned out of bounds a couple of times, and my entire session wasn’t even particularly long. On another occasion, an item from my inventory despawned out of existence once I dropped it, softlocking out of completing a mandatory objective.

He’s still since been chiefly involved with game development, but also seems to have been working with horses and teaching martial arts for years. I feel inadequate.[/spoiler]
Pretty cool short experience! It was surprising to me that this style of game was not point and click, but I still enjoyed it a lot! Even though some of the mechanics can be clunky, the small team behind Between Me and The Night did a pretty good job on making a beautiful and morose game.

解密类游戏，不看攻略几乎无法获得全部成就，游戏内的非任务必须物品也可以拿，这又导致解密难度上升，操作体验一般。成就无BUG，可以获得100%成就。游戏内还有三个小游戏，并且与对应的成就，操作体验也很一般，好在小游戏难度不高，可以达成成就条件。好在游戏流程不算太长，看攻略2小时通关足矣。

I tried to like it, and gave it proper shot, but cant finish it. Style is interesting, original, but controls just plain annoying. Everything takes forever. It gets to point where it stops to be interesting and it just becomes a chore, like when you drag bunch of boxes on wrong side, so you have to drag them back to the other side and... I honestly can imagine having more fun cleaning ♥♥♥♥ after my senior dog. Unfortunately. It is boring.
With mostly positive reviews, I'll point out that there is probably an audience for this game. But I've found it to be absolutely awful. It has style, but the content is not just limited but actively bad.
I'd sum it up with MAJOR 2 problems.
First, the speed is dreadfully slow and there is alot of back and forth. Unlike most adventure games... you can only examine things very close to you. This means you'll spend 3 minutes assembling a chair/table ladder onto to be rewarded with "Oh I don't need this".
The second major issue is a major lack of direction. Every room is filled with dozens of objects and it can be very difficult to figure out which ones matter and which are red herrings. The objects seem to be placed specifically to add theme and story... but due to the time it takes to examine things it hurts the experience. My entire playtime consisted of walking back and forth through the house finding bits of several puzzles... but not enough pieces to finish anything.
Combine this with a save system that only saved at the end of a chapter. Because I quit the game, I needed to restart the entire chapter. I wasn't having enough fun to replay half a chapter.
There may be something worthwhile here, but you'll have to overcome many frustrations to find it. It wasn't worth it for me.

Between Me and The Night es una aventura gráfica entretenida, con un diseño artístico original, que trata sobre el paso del tiempo y de cómo nuestro pasado nos influye en lo que somos en el presente.
Sinceramente, las metáforas y los aforismos que abundan en la aventura y el nivel artístico que simula, de alguna manera, recortes de papel, no me parecen suficiente excusa para tildar este título de imprescindible. Es jugable y entretenido, pero lejos de los mejores del género.
Por un lado, gráficamente, como he comentado, es bastante correcto y original por su estilo, pero no me parece excelente. Muy lejos de otras aventuras gráficas como Candle, por ejemplo.
Por otro lado, la sensación de desazón y de intranquilidad ante la oscuridad que nos rodea, está bien conseguida, pero también a años luz de otros títulos indie como pueden ser "Breathing Fear" (ya imposible de encontrar en Steam) o de "Claire".
La música y los efectos de sonido cumplen perfectamente. Bien implementados dentro de la aventura.
La jugabilidad es buena, pero en ocasiones los controles resultan algo incómodos. Quizás podrían haberse implementado mejor. La dificultad se mantiene estable durante todo el progreso de la aventura, sin picos destacados, por lo que no es especialmente complicada de acabar. Su duración, por tanto, no será excesiva (alrededor de 5 horas).
En definitiva, estamos ante una aventura que, que por su diseño artístico y lo que se nos quiere contar, bien puede gustar a cualquier jugador y por tanto es recomendable. Sin embargo, no esperes que esté entre los mejores juegos de tu biblioteca (ni siquiera dentro de su género).

Well, the game is entertaining, mostly. There are many things that appear to be puzzles that you need to solve but that end up being nothing, just... ¿to confuse the player, maybe? Things that are for ambiance are not interactive, but things that are manipulable are also for ambiance, mixed up with the real elements needed for the puzzles. Not very friendly for the player, that should be bewildered by the puzzles and not by a bunch of nonsensical items with no real importance. There is some platforming action that is annoying. The art is nice to look at. Some puzzles are head-scratchers but not really that hard. The game is good for the casual player.
The story is intriguing at first but later feels just like is the story of the life of some dude (developer) that thinks his life is interesting (but is not). I don't think this is a surreal game, feels more like a personal auto-therapy disguised as a game. "Get inside my head, dude, it's crazy!" Nah, a pretty common set of childhood trauma and later of boring adulthood. Anyway, it includes cards and achievements. Get it for cheap and you might have some fun, just some.

I expected more of this game but it was nice enough. It's short but you can find details and little hints of the "story" everywhere. Each time your actions can show you different happenings around.
The action/fight parts needs work. Lots! That wasn't enjoyable at all. A shame.

Un juego del que esperaba algo más, más profundidad. Es bastante corto y lo enmarco dentro de juego casual, totalmente.
Aunque su jugabilidad es algo torpe y las partes de acción/pelea necesitan pulirse (MUCHO!) es un juego curioso en el que puedes descubrir un montón de detalles de la "historia" si prestas atención al entorno y según tus acciones, o orden de ellas, suceden cosas diferentes.
Lamentablemente no tiene mucho más. Está bien para pasar un ratito y si lo has pillado de oferta.
Je n'ai pas accroché du tout à Between Me and The Night. Je vais le préserver d'une note car je n'y ai joué environ qu'une heure donc trop peu pour apporter un jugement éclairé mais Steam exigeant une évaluation positive ou négative, je ne peux donc pas le conseiller.

Spent so much time restarting a level due to bugs that made it impossible to progress... not worth it.
This game is very beautiful. I think it also tried to tackle some interesting concepts. However, it's just missing that something needed to make it really connect. I understand not wanting to spoon-feed players, but it's important to be able to connect to the story too. In this case, things were just too disjointed to really bring it home.
Additionally, the gameplay is lacking a bit. I had some issues with bugs at times, and it ran very choppily. It also does not flow well - there are times when you'll have no idea what you should be doing. Personally, I just ended up using a walkthrough because you move super slow as it is, and I was getting frustrated going back and forth (especially in the house).
I got this on sale and I don't regret it. However, it's too bad because there is a lot of potential here. I hope the developers will try something else in the future!

Between Me and The Night кажется мне уникальным автобиографическим проектом, метафорическим высказыванием о субъективном восприятии прошлого и мироощущении сегодняшнем, эдаким анализом себя и того, почему в жизни всё получилось так, как получилось. Проект очевидно многое значит для автора, и хоть его смысл в общем понятен, часть важных деталей мы, наверное, даже не замечаем. И несмотря на то, что я чувствую, с какой любовью сделана эта игра, мне она в итоге просто не понравилась.
Ничего не могу с собой поделать. Да, стилистика и саундтрек приятные, а мир, состоящий из воспоминаний и меняющийся в зависимости от эмоций героя, кажется интересным. Но неудобство управления и состоящий из не полностью раскрытых обрывков сюжет не давали мне погрузиться в историю. Я бы хотел полюбить Between Me and The Night, но мне это не удалось. Игра не плохая, но явно не для всех.
