This is a genuinely fun game, its graphics aren't the best owing to its age and a low end PC should be able to run it handily. I wish there were more games in the series (I am not sure if there are, I only see this and its demo on steam.) as I would thoroughly enjoy experiencing battles from Midway all the way to battles like Leyte Gulf, and Okinawa. I highly recommend this game

I can't even start to complain effectively. The mouse is uncontrollable. The controls are janky. I can't figure out if its crap from the get-go or because it can't handle the modern PC. A 2007 SHOULD run like a dream on a rig built in the summer of 2025, but its terrible. I'd ask for a refund, but Steam would only give me a $1.04. Screw that. Don't buy this.

Amazing and still works with LAN for PCs, make sure to enable windows feature "Legacy" and "Direct Play" option so LAN will still work. GameRanger is good if you want to play online still even with Gamespy Arcade being non existent anymore.

Command a variety of sea based vehicles in World War II combat. Though you’ll always be piloting a boat, submarine, or plane/jet your real friend will be the map as you can command each squadron to tasks. Let me tell you that this IS necessary as otherwise you will have drawn out encounters if not flat out losing. Unfortunately if you don’t do the hefty amount of tutorial levels (like I did) you’ll miss out on how to play and brute forcing it is not advised. More or less the game is FINE but the AI can be more than aggravating and I don’t really like how it handles some encounters. Luckily most levels are short and with the correct know how, you can finish them pretty easily… at least on Rookie/Easy.

Recommend? Not really. The sheer amount you have to learn is a bit egregious and the gameplay can often be flat out frustrating even with some knowledge.

Battlestations: Midway è uno di quei giochi che non si dimenticano facilmente. L’ho giocato tantissimo anni fa, ben prima di Steam, e ogni volta che ci penso mi tornano in mente ore passate a pianificare manovre tra portaerei, navi e aerei in battaglie epiche sul Pacifico. C’era qualcosa di estremamente affascinante nel poter passare dal controllo tattico delle flotte alla guida diretta di un aereo o di una nave durante lo scontro. È uno di quei titoli che porto nel cuore, perché racchiude un modo di giocare più genuino, quando si contava più sulla passione che sulla grafica.
Un vecchio classico che non ha bisogno di effetti speciali per conquistarti — solo passione, strategia e tanto cuore.

Whoever ported this to steam really screwed up, because a large amount of this game is setting up tactics and letting it auto fight some battles, but the auto targeting for ships and planes is so bad, that you might as well not even bother. you have to manually target each enemy yourself, and there are just way too many enemies for that

Hidden gem for sure. Has a fantastic gameplay loop of arcade sim + RTS where you can take control of units and turn the tide of battle flying planes, commanding destroyers and carriers. Main campaign (approx 6hours, well paced), loosely depicts the events leading up to the Battle of Midway, cutsceners are a product their time, but overall its a lot of fun. Runs well on Win11 and is stable. I think I would have really enjoyed this when it had released on 360/PS3.

I like the idea of the game: massive air and sea battles in the WWII Pacific Theater. The battles are very cool, and it's nice that each time you play as a different type of ship or plane. Unfortunately, the lack of a tutorial made it very unclear how to use some of the weapons, and very vague objectives like "Get revenge for Pearl Harbor" make you wonder what exactly you're supposed to do.

Absolute unplayable on Steam. Powerful rig running all settings at low with lowest resolution. Look at a ship lag spike of 1-5 FPS, there's no saving that.

In 2025, with great regret it is a NO, not because they are bad games by any metric, BUT.......

Some games are firmly locked within their time and the limitations / style of games dependent on their systems. Battlestations Midway and it's latter sequel, essentially the story of the same Pacific War but told from a Japanese Pilots perspective rather than the first games American Pilot, were big news for Xbox 360 Owners such as I, due to there no really being very few flying games that weren't totally arcade and based upon Historical events. So, upon time of release both these games offered something unique for the 360 with the player being able to command a Torpedo Boat, a Destroyer and rain down shellfire on enemy vessels, a Submarine for those torpedo attacks looking through the scope - complete with diving to evade the possible depth charge attacks to eventually controlling and commanding a fleet of ships in your mission to push back and regain the islands. The best part for me personally was the Carrier gameplay where you could allocate wings of Torpedo Bombers, Dive Bombers and the Fighter Cover. Sending out Spotter Planes trying to catch a glimpse of the enemy fleet and organise an attack catching them unprepared and off guard, whilst always facing the risk you may get caught yourself with your pants down your fighters mid transit whilst the Imperial Japanese Airforce arrived to give your ships an Imperial Rogering !
The campaign managed to hold your interest without becoming repetative. You could fly from 3rd person but what was great for a 360 game was the in-cockpit view and ability to switch to other Aircraft on the mission. So, a very good Campaign and the games also featured a Multiplayer Skirmish option to extend the games life. Also the ships, subs and planes all featured easy individual control schemes relevant to their class using the Xbox Gamepad.
Sadly though, these games released in that 'Games for Windows Live' period requiring an account registering and linked up to a now totally defunct website. The Graphics are bleeding edge Xbox 360, replaying these games today requires being able to find a work around to by pass the dreaded GFWL - which was do-able but havent attempted for quite some time now. In complete honesty though, unless you have a particular affinity or desire to relive what these games offered and no longer own your old Xbox 360 copy....... Well, you're better leaving these games as the pleasant memorie you may have of playing them at the time, the Multiplayer won't be available ( unless someone has modded some way to do so ? ) you'll have to battle just to get the game to run on your system AND the BIG BIG final point, times have moved on and there's definitely better more modern games out there to scratch that itch. A modern ground up version offering all the aspects this pair of game did, would be EPIC though, as the Pacific War doesn't seem to get as much exposure as the European side of the conflict, yet featured the Carrier upon Carrier warfare so many Science Fiction Space Sagas have used as their inspiration and although these games do not really touch upon the sheer brutality of what the Marines had to face out there on those islands, over all these games give a viewpoint from both sides and tell very well a story quickly fading into the dusty pages of history and the bravery of those men who fought there, many not to return.

This game is awesome! While it's from 2007 and the cut-scene graphics leave a lot to be desired, the combat gameplay is super fun. Few other games let you switch so easily between plane, naval, and submarine combat. It's definitely not meant for keyboards in my opinion and it sucks controllers don't play with it not on console, but it's still totally worth it in my opinion! One of those games that is simply an old treasure.

E le palle. Benvenuto in Battlestations: Midway. Il gioco che ti fa venire voglia di arruolarti, solo per poter dire: “Sì, signore, affonderò quella portaerei da solo, e poi farò pipì sul relitto.”
Nel 2007, mentre il mondo si preoccupava ancora di Vista e MySpace, Eidos si svegliava una mattina, si faceva un caffè nero come la notte in mare aperto, e sputava fuori questa creatura ibrida, parte RTS, parte simulatore, parte “ma che cazzo sto facendo, sto pilotando un bombardiere o comandando una flotta?”. E la risposta è: tutto. Contemporaneamente. E lo fai pure bene.

Giocare a Battlestations: Midway è come essere dentro una crisi di identità multipla con tendenze omicide. Sei un comandante. Sei un pilota. Sei un sommergibilista. Sei Dio con la divisa da marinaio. Passi da un aereo che lancia siluri a una corazzata che fa fuoco su una base giapponese che non ha fatto in tempo nemmeno a urlare “Tenno Heika Banzai!”. Il tutto mentre cambi visuale, prospettiva, e – se sei abbastanza bravo – il corso della Seconda Guerra Mondiale.

I controlli? Un casino. Ma un casino voluto. Perché la guerra non è comoda, baby. La guerra non ti tiene la mano. Ti dà una mappa piena di icone, un obiettivo impossibile, e ti urla in faccia: “Fallo o affoga.” Ed è proprio lì, in quel caos organizzato, che Midway brilla. Come un’esplosione al fosforo sul ponte di volo di una portaerei.
E la campagna? Roba da propaganda a stelle e strisce, ma talmente kitsch e sincera da farti venir voglia di arruolarti solo per il gusto di chiamare qualcuno “tenente” con voce roca e sigaretta tra i denti. Dialoghi sopra le righe, cliché come se piovesse, eppure funziona. Perché sai che è tutto una grande messinscena. Una giostra di morte, metallo e retorica a stelle e strisce. E ti piace così.

Il multigiocatore? Caotico, crudele, meraviglioso. Ti insegna due cose: uno, non fidarti mai di chi pilota i bombardieri. Due, affondare un nemico mentre urli “TORA TORA TORA” anche se sei americano è catartico come una seduta di gruppo alla Fight Club.

Battlestations: Midway non è un gioco. È una dichiarazione. È una lettera d’amore scritta con la mitragliatrice su carta da navigazione. È il tipo di gioco che ti fa dimenticare di mangiare, di dormire, di avere una vita al di fuori della tua flotta digitale.
E quando chiudi il PC, ti ritrovi a guardare il mondo reale pensando: “Quella nave laggiù? Troppo esposta. La colpirei con un attacco a sorpresa alle 06:00. Tempo sereno. Mare forza 3. Vento a sud-est.”

E capisci che ormai, sei uno di loro. Sei un uomo di Midway.
E non c’è via di ritorno.

this game is awesome. you control various types of ships and planes, depending on the mission you get to control multiple at a time as you strategically complete your objective. using the map you can keep an overview of the battle and also control indirectly where you want your units to go or where to attack, other wise use the units directly to attack. its similar to a world of warships. the single player missions are great how ever i have not tested the multiplayer since i rarely play games online. to keep the game alive i play over the same missions using different strategies. a downfall of the game is that i find the ocean i large so it takes some time to get units in to attack range. i bought it on sale for less than a dollar, give it a try

A game I really, really want to like.

Unfortunately, I cannot. The gameplay is kind of boring and repetitive, not to mention - slow. Perhaps this might be a poor judgement in the modern climate where everything, even video games have to throw more visual/mental stimulants at you, but the point stands. You don't feel like you're in a battle or a mission, which is sad, considering a battle is in the name!!

The controls are also terrible. The default settings cause your mouse movements to invert! I first thought I could get used to it by thinking it's like binoculars, to look up you must pull them down. Nope. Yes, it can be changed, and I will give it the benefit of this game not being made for modern systems at least. On planes, however, the controls are unplayable. Navigating your aircraft is an annoying, difficult task - dogfights are impossible.

The tutorial being a boring lecture on the controls rather than a part of your missions also makes the game less fun, because it's severely demotivating to spend an hour learning simple (yet wonky) controls just because of how slow-paced it is!

The game has some strange historical inaccuracies, but I would not care about them if the gameplay was fun. I won't complain about the impossibility to play multiplayer, because I couldn't stand the air controls in a multiplayer game.

As a huge Naval Autist I find that I love this game, but... I do tweak out at some of the Historical inaccuracy
>Some of the Ship classes are wrong
>Shokaku and Zuikaku are both Shokaku Class Carriers not Soryu Class carriers
>USS Pennsylvania is a Pennsylvania class battleship not a New York Class battleship
>HMS Warspite is a Queen Elizabeth II class battleship not a King George V class battleship
>Zuhio is a Zuhio Class carrier not an Akagi class Carrier
>The Number on the USS Lexington's super structure is CV-60 which would designate her as the USS Saratoga of the Forrestal class Super carriers. What it should be is CV-2 for the USS Lexington of the Lexington class carriers.

Mt bom, ele é bem curto comparado ao BSP (uma campanha no midway dura entre 10 a 20 min enquanto no pacific pd durar ate 1hr) considerando q so há 9 missões na campanha comparado ao pacific onde há mais de 30~ (n lembro o numero exato e nem consigo ver pq o meu x360 morreu ;-;) é um otimo jogo para passar o tempo, é bem facil aprender os controles e customiza-los.

I want to start by mentioning that I loved Battlestations and still do, however it did not age well, I played it in the 360 which was a mostly smooth experience, but same cannot be said for this. Its not really the fault of the devs, its just an old game, so you need to do many work arounds to get the game running the way you want it, controls are weird, and to get the controls working on a controller its a pain, and even then it does not work normally, the controller binding is weird and the audio for cutscenes cut out often and you have to constantly reinstall a file to get it to work again.

I really love this game , for its time , i would say this might have been one of the best WW2 vehicle games. The cutscenes are gorgeous , the controls are a little difficult to get used to , the graphics are decent and there is little to no lag. I used to play this game called blazing angels on an arcade version , unfortunately the place has closed down but this game really reminds me of that game.

A great little WW2 game that covers much of the Pacific theater with lots of history thrown in! The graffix are a bit dated but they are still absolutely playable and still quite beautiful in their own right, and I strongly believe that these games deserve to be preserved for posterity so future generations can experience the birth pains of games and thier development in the 80s 90s 2000s and 2010s and now 2020s. A very good game and a great little representation of just another aspect of WW2!

Zbierz kilku znajomych, zainstaluj Gamerangera i dostaniesz naprawdę przyjemne doświadczenie. Największą zaletą Battlestations jest to, że nie ma konkurencji. Po prostu nie wyszło nigdy nic w tym stylu, by można było w jednej grze osobiście pływać okrętami wszystkich klas (w tym okrętami podwodnymi i lotniskowcami), a do tego latać samolotami, obsługiwać porty i lotniska i wszystkim tym dowodzić na mapie taktycznej. Ba, nawet nie ma za bardzo morskich gier z funkcją multiplayer. Jedyne opcje obecnie to War Thunder i World of Warships, w których próżno szukać (bez wielogodzinnego grindu) możliwości po prostu zagrania ze znajomymi. Tutaj włącza się bez żadnego zobowiązania grę i od razu ma się wszystko do dyspozycji. Gra jest leciwa, ale jeśli szukać dziś jakiegoś oryginalnego tytułu do pogrania ze znajomymi lub tak jak ja - gry o morskiej walce z trybem wieloosobowym, to jest to dobry wybór. Czy warto kupić dla kampanii i trybu pojedynczego gracza? Chyba tylko, jeśli jest się fanem gier retro lub grało się w ten produkt w dzieciństwie. Dziś raczej odrzuci archaicznością. Ogólnie pod każdym względem polecałbym Battlestations: Pacific ponad Midway, ale ten został zdjęty ze Steam i obecnie trudno go zdobyć. Midway jest łatwiejszy w zdobyciu (4 zł na przecenie) i prostszy w uruchomieniu.

The games that probably (definitely) inspired world of warships, Fantastic going back to it, but as usual with these older games no sound on any cut-scene, controller in-put doesn't seem to work either, Apart from that, it is as good as you'd expect for a really old game. too few warship games out there so this does scratch the itch for SP warship gaming.
