Backyard Baseall '97 is pure nostalgic fun, The game keeps everything that made the original special, simple controls, charming characters, and the classic backyard atmosphere. It's easy to pick up, but still surprisingly strategic, and building your team from neighbourhood kids never get old. The humour, sound effects, and iconic players like Pablo make it feel timeless. If you grew up with it or played it when you were a little bit older, then this is a fantastic trip down memory lane.

This was my childhood game and I'm very happy to see it revived! Backyard Baseball 2001 is cool and all, but it's never the one I played, and I think there's a lot more charm and heart in this one.
(I remember being in little league in like 2004 talking about Backyard Baseball with a teammate. He asked me who the best player in the game was and I said, of course, Pablo Sanchez. He said it was Barry Bonds and I was so confused. I'm talking about Backyard Baseball the video game, that's an MLB player. I did not learn until later that Backyard Baseball 2001 existed).
Anyhow this game is so much fun, I love the characters, the game mechanics are great, the music and SFX are fun (I usually turn off Vinny The Gooch's colour commentary, sorry but he has like 5 total voice lines and after the 5th "sweet as candy I tell ya!" he really starts to get on my nerves), and I keep coming back to it just like I did in the late 90s/early 2000s.
One thing I've always found silly: The variance in running speed is wild. In the MLB, the difference between Trea Turner's home-to-first time (4.22) and Giancarlo Stanton's (5.22) is 1 second. Pete Wheeler gets to first in about 2 seconds while Angela (who I need on my team because she's a beast on the pitcher's mound) takes like 12 seconds as if she has concrete in her shoes. Plus sometimes players are slower or faster than they usually are and I can't always tell why (I know when Angela's pitcher juice is low she runs slower, but sometimes other players are slower than usual too).

This game is SO FRUSTRATING. (It's also very fun, and I will be continuing to play it).
If you enjoy getting angry, buy this game. You will be very mad at yourself, at the computer, and the kids. It's a game full of nostalgia and rage, and I see why people love it so much.
10/10 recommend!

Great game overshadowed by Backyard Baseball '01. Before '01 was released and this was the only game available on steam, perfect fun little game to play. Now that '01 is out? Money is better spent on the improved content found in '01.

Oh, the nostalgia! 25 years after first playing this game, I have finally played a full season. I definitely recommend playing the 6-inning version, unless you just want to spend so much time playing this game. The normal difficulty is surprisingly hard, and that Ultra Grand Champion series is no joke.
One of the best games of my existence super fun and just great I recommend this game because its just so good and amazing and has a special place in my heart out of all the many games I have played
P.S Pablo is the goat and if you play the game always choose him and the underdog Jorge :)
