This game has good idea, but after 15h or even less - it becomes such a bore. I just can't, Even if it's like a light mashup of Darkest Dungeon and Slay the Spire, it's just not fun to play.

The thing that killed my enjoyment the most was the whole "bring items in your backpack back home in order to research different items". This thing alone makes the whole process of building synergies in your run super cumbersome and counterintuitive. You want to pick one item, but you see that the one you don't want has a star to it, so it's needed for researches and town building and stuff, so you are "forced" to pick the inferior item if you want to progress the whole unlock system a bit faster. And it just sucks the fun out of this game by 10 times. F that. I don't want to work like that for 50h just to be able to finally play the game as it was intended with as many item variations as possible with as many characters as possible.

And there are quite a lot of small, nagging bugs too. Achievements are also buggy. Inventory management/sorting in the city sucks! Enemy variety is also pretty small even after unlocking most of the biomes. Overall, I find this game very repetitive in nature.

This is such a great game, I really wish it wasn't so buggy (I've verified files 3 times now and nothing has been fixed). Kinda difficult to play with controller (cursor speed in the dungeon is way too fast and cannot be changed [slider does not work], buttons will double click on a single button press, and building in town is a nightmare on controller) and I'm getting a LOT of graphical bugs (issues in research menus, building pop-up cards won't go away, and invisible buildings blocking new buildings).

Though I’ve been enjoying playing this game, I just cannot in good conscience leave a positive review. Frankly, the game isn’t finished.

The main issue for me is how buggy the menus are, especially when trying to research new items. The cursor seems to jump when you press A to research something, and if you try from the Town Hall, instead of researching, it goes to the building select for some reason.

I’ve experienced several soft locks too, though fortunately the auto save is fairly frequent.

I think the actual dungeon crawling is the best part of the game. The town is a bit of a let down really. I do like the way you unlock new items by collecting certain specific items on runs. But, the way that’s put into the town is not good.

The graphics are fairly pleasant for the dungeon part of the game, but again the town is lacking here too. It’s got a very flat looking perspective, and the artwork for all the buildings feels very amateurish compared to the dungeon part of the game.

For the most part, the game is very easy. But, some of the challenge runs, where you have some item with a huge drawback that you must carry, can be more difficult.

The different characters you can unlock do genuinely feel like unique experiences when playing. I think the game does a good job of making them mechanically unique, while still staying true to the core of the gameplay.

I think if some of the major bugs are ironed out, and the game is given some more polish, I would be happy to amend my review.

Kupując tę grę spodziewałem się że znudzi mi się po kilku rozgrywkach przez jej powtarzalność, ale kupiłem ją bo była tania.

Gra mnie bardzo mile zaskoczyła, jest w niej dużo możliwości modyfikacji rozgrywki, a nawet i bez modyfikatorów gra jest interesująca przez długi czas ponieważ, jest w niej Bardzo dużo różnych przedmiotów, a dostaje się je losowo, więc często nie dostaniesz swoich wymarzonych przedmiotów i musisz dostosowywać swoją taktykę do przedmiotów które dostaniesz.
Więc czasami planując wypchać sobie połowę plecaka tasakami i taśmą, a kończysz z nekronomikonek i stosem przedmiotów których jeszcze nie wiesz jak użyć

Spodziewałem się również że gra będzie banalnie prosta lub bardzo trudna, ale okazało się że choć gra stawia przed graczem wyzwanie (szczególnie z modyfikatorami) to nie chce się od niej wyrywać włosów.

Serdecznie polecam każdemu, a szczególnie tym którzy szukają jakiegoś wyzwania ale nie radzą sobie zbyt dobrze z dynamiczną rozgrywką ;)

Il gioco di per se non è male, ma dovendo scrivere una recensione soggettiva, non riesco a raccontarlo come un "bel" gioco.
Ogni run è diversa e interessante e diversa dalla precedente, con molte incognite nell'organizzazione dello zaino e di come affacciarsi al combattimento, ma per qualche motivo, ogni run, non fa che lasciare un senso di "finalmente è finita, voglio davvero iniziarne un'altra?", che altri titoli roguelike non mi danno.
Detto questo, sono sicuro che sia uno di quei giochi che deve essere provato con mano per pensarla come me, o pensarla in modo completamente diverso.

[h1] After several years, you STILL cannot unlock the temple building due to a long-standing bug! [/h1]

It has some good points, but I feel like a lot of things are slightly missing the mark. The main character works, but didn't feel like any of the extra characters gimmicks really landed for me. Didn't enjoy the progression loop, both the town building, and having to sacrifice a ton of backpack space to bring back specific items back for research, needed to unlock more items. There's also lore tablets you can turn in, but there's no way to sort specifically for those, so if you have a ton of items brought back, it is a nightmare to find them when trying to turn them in. Story mode in general felt more annoying than anything.

Quickplay lets you actually access the temple items (all items unlocked by default), and you don't have to sacrifice your backpack space for progression, which just makes it feel so much smoother. On the fence if I'd recommend or not, but given the constant friction in the story mode, extra characters feeling lacking, and the INABILITY TO UNLOCK ONE OF THE BUILDINGS DUE TO A SEVERAL YEARS OLD BUG, I have to tip it towards a "no". Even the credits are bugged, forcing you to force-shut the application...

In about 10 hours now and really enjoying it. The game gets a lot of mileage out of the whole inventory management concept. The game doesn't feel too limited on RNG and there are enough ways to shape your item pool that it never feels unfair.

Viele verschiedene Builds für alle Charaktere möglich wenn man direkt den Quick Mode startet.
Story Modus fügt sich auch sehr gut ein und besteht aus Herausforderungen, um alle Items und Helden in diesem Modus freizuschalten.
Die Helden spielen sich auch alle unterschiedlich, z.B. ist Tote stark an ein Kartendeck-Mechanik angelehnt, wie in Slay the Spire.
Die deutsche Übersetzung stimmt leider bei einigen Items nicht, aber man kann auch jederzeit während einer Runde die Sprache wechseln.

Игра хорошая но сильно растянута. Прошел забегов 10(если не больше) за одного персонажа, а контента еще куча и маленькая тележка. Нужно ускорить прогрессию, а то ощущение что стаю на месте. Встречаются критичные баги.
Еще раз напишу, игра хорошая. денег своих стоит но из-за медленной прогрессии времени требуется слишком много. Перевод есть но парой непонятно описание или не полностью переведено название.

A wonderful spin on the Roguelike Deckbuilding genre. (A Roguelike Packbuilder if you will)
It nails the main thing you want from a deckbuilder, dozens of items and synergies. (One playthrough you may going heavy on defense and thorns to inflect damage by defending, or you may go ninja and generate a bunch of throwing stars each turn, or do a flame mage build, or an archer, or- etc.)
But there are also several characters with pretty unique playstyles. (An op bard that works with pockets instead of a unified backpack, a not-so-op frog that plays a bit more like a deckbuilder, a porcupine that has minion pets with their own storage, and a robot that treats it's bag like a circuit board of sorts.)

In addition to doing normal runs, there's also a story mode with a bunch of quests that challenge you to win a run with a particular build, which I think is really fun. (There isn't much story in the story mode, but the mode is worth it for the quests.)

Now, I wasn't part of the kickstarter, and I see that not all the stretch goals have been fulfilled yet, and there are some pretty bad bugs, which are valid complaints (and has me a little hesitant to pick up the developer's side project, Moon Watch). But as someone who got this game on sale, and enjoyed it for nearly 40 hours so far. I definitely feel like I got more than my money's worth.

Au début du jeu, ce fut une bonne découverte avec plein de mécanismes. J'accorde que les graphismes risquent de ne pas plaire à tout le monde (Perso, j'ai bien aimé mais trop simpliste comme pixel art)

Reconstruire le village me paraît une bonne idée mais qu'est ce que c'est moche !(j'ai vu des pixels art mieux que ça !) Les maisons sont très simplistes ... Là, il faudra farmer des objets qu'on doit chercher ... devinez ... Bah oui dans le donjon pardi !

Mais là où le bât blesse c'est le grind (refaire le donjon encore et encore après c'est usant). Au début ça le fait bien avec des quêtes (avec des armes associées aux quêtes qui sont parfois casse-bonbon) mais ça ne va pas plus loin.

Je recommande un peu mais sans plus. Je pense que ce jeu est plutôt fait aux chinois ou aux joueurs(ses) qui aiment le grind ( ;) )

At this point i'm thinking this could be abandoned. Bugs that break the game easily, and the modding guide being down/hacked.. I used to really love this game but it really doesn't seem worth it anymore. I realy liked messing with the mods, and trying to create my own. I ran into a bug that completly bricked a run i was playing too. It's just sad..

Backpack Hero is a creative roguelike that stands out by turning inventory management into the main gameplay mechanic. You are Sandra Mouse. Your mission? Use the things in your backpack to destroy the evil incarnate... Bobby Kotick. But you don't have to be Sandra Mouse. You can play as Jerry Bird instead. He hides bows and his mother in law in the backpack. His mission? Dispose of that woman "quietly" (yes I am also surprised that this game is based on real life events). But seriously, Backpack Hero is a fantastic deck-bulding roguelike. Venture into the darkest dungeon (pun intended) and maybe you'll find yourself along the way (or a new Creed album, there are lots of treasures there). Great addictive gameplay, lots of variety in the builds, 5 available characters, the only downside is that things are sometimes too random. The campaign is fun, but the quick runs is where the replayability is. This one is a must-play especially on a sale!

overall decently fun, from my incomplete Story file to countless Quick runs, [i]and[/i] despite the developer(s) missing in action. most of my playtime comes from the standard, non-story mode, where the fun of scrounging a build or filling the backpack is amplified by the workshop mods.

I've learned enough to create my own (and currently making a second) mod ... and I have to say the experienced is mixed. as the official guide is down, either the [u]Wayback Machine[/u] or the [u]Github[/u] work fine, being relatively easy with the [u]VScode extension[/u] as well, however the modding support is incomplete and often requires workarounds for anything remotely complex (if not impossible). this is made worse by the fact that planned additions are paused indefinitely due to the lack of developer ANYTHING for the past ~2 years. luckily there's just enough support for items (aka the primary gameplay loop) but, ugh.

as for Story Mode, I do enjoy the ebb and flow of sacrificing space and even survivability to bring back resources/items for Town upgrades and unlocks (my Quick runs often end with hundreds of unspent coins). other than that, I thankfully(?) haven't encountered the issues reported by people [spoiler]YET[/spoiler], during the modest amount of time I spent in it.

背包管理+地牢肉鸽，五种角色可以选择，每种角色都有各自的专属背包和流派，还是比较耐玩的。但是我不知道为什么，通关之后再进入无尽模式，就很难坚持下去，怪物的数值很高，靠堆物资的数值根本不够看的。也可能是我的流派有问题，总之就是条件很苛刻。其次就是经验花可以更改一下吗，不要总是5个经验，你可以改成百分比值的呀，不然后面的经验花给的那点经验根本不够用的，等级上不来就滚不起来雪球。最后就是能不能改一个一键重复上次操作的快捷键，或者倍速。打到后面的重复操作有时候真的很无聊。

I do like this game, it has really fun gameplay loop, where best parts is loot, that you find on the way and try to make some build with it. I played the game for unique items and weird combos I could create with it... Sadly this type of play is not really supported with game design.
As you play, you will be gathering loot (items) which you can sell and or use to unlock new items which you can find in dugeon. The problem is, that unlocking those items is kinda grindy, you will be usually unlocking 1 item per 2 dives into dungeon. (Or 1 dive, if you play really efficiently). That means, that as you will play, the fame will become quite repetetive and you will be constantly meeting same items. Not to mention, that the items your unlocking I find rather worse version of basic items and often even niche for specific build. Not to mention, that you have only few and very limited ways to reroll dropped items, so the chance, that you can build this niche build are slim.

It is sad to see. I would cut this feature and rather implemented packs of items, which would be growing based on into which dungeon you will delve.

I had fun with game, but later the repetitiveness grew strong... which I hate. In the end, it is worth the money in sale and if you dont mind repetitiveness.

Took a little getting used to but quite easy to lose a lot of time in once you get on its level. The variations that come from the different characters keeps it interesting for longer than it might have otherwise. If there's anything I'd criticize, I'd say that maybe a few too many things are left more or less completely random, with some things spawning for a run that are literally useless or specific builds not getting the loot you need to do what you wanted. Some late game ways to tilt the scales in your favor as far as the random drops go wouldn't go amiss.

cdk现在很便宜，性价比极极极极高。细节略粗糙但整体非常好玩上头的地牢肉鸽。
翻译ok，少量描述不精准，但试一下就明白效果了，比事无巨细长篇大论一眼看不到重点强。
量超级大我玩了40+h才开了3个角色，而且每个角色机制都有差异化玩法差别还挺大的。
唯一败笔是局外养成（或者说开道具池？）交互粗糙得不行，不方便又难用，建造玩法繁琐又无聊，自由度极低，搞半天还不如就搁那点技能树加一减一呢。
给的任务指引不直观，开道具的材料也不直观，搞的我背了一背包东西出来结果除了商品其他一个都不敢卖，就怕后面新出的道具需要。
还好这部分占比不算大，总体体验原价肯定全是瑕疵，cdk超便宜入手那就是瑕不掩瑜。

I usually get stressed in rougelikes since it's usually difficult for me to know what differences my choices are making. Backpack Hero doesn't have this issue whatsoever (so far). Between getting items, upgrading, and fighting, you get to choose the path you take. And due to that my wins feel less reliant RNG and more on my actual choices.

I watched a spoiler-free review before playing this and it was said that the story mode felt to slow. I personally love it since it gives you quite a few different game-modes and challenges while you progress. Which feels really fun.

There's only a few tracks you'll be listening to throughout the game, but It really never got old. If you find normal Rougelikes too stressful try this! (And inscryption, that game gives you a lot of clear choices as well)

The organizing mechanics are fun and it makes the game very replay-able. I've made a lot of different builds so far.

Unfortunately I find myself wanting ways to make things tougher on purpose. I haven't tried all the challenge runs yet; I'm doing Story Mode and the first areas aren't that difficult to complete and you have to do a lot of runs to progress the Story Mode into tougher areas.

The story, and the dialogues, aren't especially compelling, but the game is still very much worth trying.

This game has a lot of potential, but I haven't had a playthrough that I didn't run into a bug of some kind. Seeing as it's a roguelite, most item bugs aren't the end of the world. But in looking up some of these other bugs, like the save bug, have been around FOREVER. Plus, other bugs like just not being able to build in a certain area. There's also other issues such as being able to tell what item you are going get "RNG". Cuz the program has already decided. So you can just hover over the items for the description and the only item that actually exists and gives you a tooltip is the one your gonna get!

I really hope I can one day come back to this game once it has even a single layer of polish and give it a thumbs up. 🤞

**Update**: Just got a bug where I lost my entire save. Until this is fixed this game is unplayable.

I think this game is pretty great value for $10 I spent on it. It's essentially a themed deckbuilding game, except instead of building a deck of cards you draw randomly you fill a backpack with gear drops. The items can effect nearby items and sometimes have limitations that you have to sort your pack around. A good example for both is the sapphire, it gives +1 damage to the weapon in the slot under it but it also floats so it'll automatically move to take the highest slot in the column it's placed in. There are a few special build routes like archery which requires you expand your backpack in a special way to maximize damage, or magic which requires you to make a network with manastones. It really adds a neat challenge to try and find a way to shift your inventory around to make the items you get work. The updates to this game have been pretty sporadic which is why a lot of people assume it's abandoned. I've also heard that 2026 is planned to have a balance update of some sort. I think that even with the content it currently has this game was a good buy for me personally.

As of writing this there are 5 characters that have surprisingly unique gameplay styles.
Purse is the default character with the default style, her special is that random items appear on the side of the screen that you can get by reorganizing during that combat turn, this lets her get a lot more rolls on loot and a better chance to get the build you want.

Totes special is she uses carvings more than normal weapons, carvings are meant to be played then discarded so her backpack is much smaller and it makes her play more like a normal deck-builder. She's easily the weakest character and needs a major rework, she's actively harmed by looting too much and it's really hard to make a working build.

Satchels has musical instruments which stack a special charm effect, if an enemies charm stacks exceed their remaining hp they'll start fighting for you, and if all enemies are on your side they run away ending the fight making it possible to do pacifist runs. His bag can also be separated into pockets and some items function better that way.

Pochette gets pets, each pet has it's own inventory where it can carry treats that change how it interacts with her backpack and also what the pet does when summoned, defeated, or attacked. It makes the game feel more team based since you can build the pets to fill specific roles.

CR-8 ends up with a huge backpack, they can't use most items directly and need to set up a circuit in their bag that activates items as the energy passes through it. This makes the game play more like an auto-battler, he's probably the most OP character.

The story mode is an interesting addition, it's pretty basic but does the job, Purse is trying to find her mom who was lost in the dungeon and is using the loot from the dungeon to restore the town. It has it's charm and gives ways to unlock items so you're not just hosed with everything at once, it also offers challenges to force testing different run types with some even being introductory to how to play characters when you unlock them.

I will say that it suffers from some issues. Like most games like this the build variety seems much more varied than it actually is. After a handful of runs you'll quickly realize that it's usually better to prioritize offense since enemies damage slowly increases as combat goes on so you can't turtle. Stacking effects are king too, getting items that can apply fury, poison, or burning, and items that give extra energy usually just have a better chance of getting you through the dungeon. Some of the niche builds that are clearly meant to be an option are just too cumbersome to use, like cleavers or summer items (most summer items are just bad).

I think the devs have abandoned the game or something.
Overall I do not think it's worth the full price, considering all its flaws and major bugs. It feels like an early access game and i'm surprised it's a full release. It really feels unfinished.

My problems with the game:

1. It is extremely buggy. I don't think I have had a run without a single bug, and I have played 70+ hours.

Pretty much all of the bugs I have encountered are just gamebreaking and can softlock you. I just accepted them and learned to play my way around them, saving every single time I know the bug will happen so that i dont get softlocked. It's not only me with these bugs either, if you check the community posts, you will see that this is a consistent problem, and that the devs have not been fixing bugs for a while.

A few (but not all) of the bugs I have encountered are:

One where in a split path, it often doesn't close (it's not a bug that happens when you click too fast or anything, it just sometimes collapses no matter how you click on it). Once you go down both paths, it remembers it has to close and traps you in a single square in the map. The only way to escape is to reset your game from your last save.

There are many bugs inside the backpack. some where an item is 1 or 2 tiles to the side of where you're placing it. This is really bad obviously, because you really can't see anything and can't organize your backpack properly.

When using the robot, there is a known glitch where you just can't read some items' names. I just totally forgot what they did and kept them there.

There have been some glitches where my items are duplicated while bringing items back to the town. This is generally ok, but it was really irritating when I would bring back fragments that are not sellable, and have it permanently clutter my inventory.

In the town, I would often select one thing while researching, but it would go down one space and use my items to complete the research below. This made me spend Items I wanted to keep, or hundreds of a currency I needed for something else.

Not really a bug, but there is no confirm option after organizing your backpack. When I would first play the game, I would often accidentally click an item (it would stay in the same place, inside of my backpack), but you lose it after going to the next tile. This made me lose many late game legendary items and it is really discouraging. It would be easy to add a confirm option but it's just not there. I'm sure I'm not the only one who had this problem, as it does not feel intentional at all, and I was very confused the first few times it happened. It is really not clear that you should absolutely not select or click on any items before leaving a tile.

2. A lot of quality of life problems:

I don't understand why the town hall won't let you research from there. Isn't it the whole point of the town hall? It doesn't make sense why you can just look at everything, but still have to go to each building manually.

When researching, once you submit an item, it does not mark that item as completed until you complete the whole quest/research. This makes it much harder to know what you actually need, and I ended up checking the research almost every single time to see if I actually needed it or not.

There are many researches I never completed on purpose because I didn't want the item in the pool (for example, there is an item that removes all block and replaces it with dodges). Giving an option to disable certain unlocks from being in the pool would help solve this, although it would require a bit of balancing.

3. Things I am not a fan of

(VERY MILD SPOILERS)

I did not like the ending. It was really short and the final dungeon was literally just 3 floors with a long tile to go to the right, no paths or anything. It felt really rushed and the final boss took me less than 5 mins to kill, and I was just spamming the attack button the whole time. The ending is just one photo and then the credits roll. There are less than 10 lines of dialogue during the ending and they are not interesting at all.

(SPOILERS OVER)

After ending the game, you can't go back to the town or complete any quests after. It just tells you thanks for playing and it ends. It might be a glitch I had, and I wouldnt be surprised if it was, but is just horrible to basically tell your playerbase that their whole save is useless once they beat the final boss.

I did not care about the story at all. that would be ok if the game wasn't so grindy. I was ok with the grinding because I found the game fun enough, but it definitely did not feel like something of much substance. There are some moments in the game that were supposed to be dramatic, but I really did not care at all while they were happening. I actually found it a bit comedic because of how unserious they came off. The story is really generic and predictable, and each character feels very flat. It is really obvious that their personalities are one dimensional and that they are only in the town to serve one purpose (like the bartender only talking about drinks, the fish guy only talking about fish, etc)

CONCLUSION:
Obviously, with all its flaws, I still did play 72 hours willingly, and I enjoyed my time, but the ending really sealed the deal on how I felt about this game. I just felt like I threw away my time and solidified how unfinished it felt. It is just not nearly polished enough for a full release, which is sad considering how much potential it has. I hope the devs will actually fix all the bugs and problems the community has, but I doubt it, considering how long it has been since they have came in to fix anything. :( sad because I really wanted to love this game. I just feel like the devs do not care about their playerbase with everything together.

正常游玩白金是没问题的，按理最难的700收集也不需要收进包里，路上见过就算开图鉴计数了，问题就在这个稀烂引导和不标名字还爱乱跑的npc了，导致主线通关极其费时。最后一步科学家信标任务卡了我5个小时，需要5个角色都通关3层，还得解锁标准模式，而青蛙和机器人这两个角色居然得通关特定的教程模式才能解锁标准，那我都通关3层boss了还需要你那鬼教程？这不应该排在简单模式前？还要我拿资源去解锁？？？不止我一人卡主线进度吧？也不舍得优化下，真真烂完。

喜欢这类还是建议玩背包乱斗，单纯肉鸽那塔二就更好

El juego es un roguelike en donde la mecanica principal es que tienes una mochila el cual sirve como un inventario para diferentes objetos que debes utilizar para avanzar en la mazmorra a la cual te estas enfrentando por razones de historia del juego.
Ahora lo mas divertido de este juego es que cuando digo que la mecanica principal es la mochila, me refiero a que una gran parte del juego es el manejo del inventario que tienes, siendo un inventario muy al estilo de Resident Evil 4, donde cada vez que subes de nivel, en lugar de mejorar tus estadisticas de personaje tu expandes el inventario que tienes para que puedas recoger mas objetos.
El juego aunque entretenido no es perfecto, ya que siento que la dificultad usualmente es demasiado sencillo para muchos de los personajes y que en la progresion de la mazmorra es mucho mas sencillo hacer una bola de nieve y volcerte practicamente inmortal gracias al control que tienes para hacer sinergias dentro de tu inventario.
Pero en otro lado existen personajes que puedes elegir en el juego los cuales son absurdamente dificiles y aunque no sean necesario jugar con ellos para completar el modo historia, si puede llegar a sentirse como un cambio de dificultad demasiado brusco e incluso un poco injusto.
Por ultimo tambien debo decir que este juego cuenta con un modo historia el cual tiene una seccion de construccion de pueblo, el cual utiliza recursos que hayas sacado de la mazmorra, este aunque llega a ser ligeramente entretenido usualmente para mi opinion llega a agregar poco al loop de gameplay

My recommendation for this game comes with a huge asterisk!

Obviously I did enjoy it enough to play for 66 hours at time of review. I'm the kind of person who always jokes when I play an RPG that I enjoy the "inventory management minigame" - the challenge of fitting as much treasure into my characters' limited bag space as possible, and optimizing gear slots for the best combinations of things. Backpack Hero takes that concept and plugs it into a roguelite dungeon crawler format, leading to a unique run every time that actually does feel fresh as you continue to discover new item types and how they all interact with each other. There are also quests to do where you start a given run with specific item combinations and/or special relics that add new dimension to the inventory management challenges. (I particularly enjoyed the quests aspect, at least at first.)

That said, here's the asterisk:
Do NOT buy this game if you are going to be bothered by lack of completion. I personally am the kind of person who will try to 100% everything possible in a game if I really like it - finish the story, do all the achievements, fill out all the encyclopedias, whatever it is. Backpack Hero betrayed me on all of those points.

The biggest issue I had was with the multiple unlockable characters. Most of my 60+ hours were spent playing through the various quests available for the primary starter character, Purse. The second character you can unlock has slightly different mechanics but was similar enough in play style and had a few quests as well, so I played all of his content. The main story seemed to progress for a while, but at a certain point, new things stopped happening, even after I had unlocked all of what seemed to be available in the dungeon. I was running out of new items to research so I finally finished all of the quests for the first two characters and moved on to the third. That's where things started to fall apart.

The third unlockable character has SUCH different mechanics that I could not properly wrap my head around them. After multiple attempts at multiple different types of quests/runs, where even when I seemed to have a winning strategy for the most part, I would get to the final boss and suddenly fail (over and over and over again), I finally had to conclude that the balance for this character's mechanics is just broken. I've given it a lot of thought and I personally feel like there were some poor design choices where the concept is interesting but in practice it doesn't scale properly. (As a minor additional note, the specific mechanics for this character change the root play concept of the game from inventory management to something more like a deck builder, which is not the game I signed up to play.)

There are two other unlockable characters - one of which I had unlocked, but at this point still had no quests available to do (just the "standard run" mode, which I didn't feel like doing after all of my other issues), and the fifth and final unlockable character, well... due to the way I suspect the unlock process is programmed, I believe I have soft-locked myself out of being able to recruit him without starting a new game. At 60+ hours that represents a terrible choice for me - repeat a lot of tedious grinding, or go without completing the game. (I also suspect that my story progress stopped because I need to unlock and play all of the other characters in order to complete it, which if that is the case, makes that extra unfortunate.)

There were other minor points of contention - the game is a little bit buggy sometimes and the mechanics aren't always super clear from descriptions on items, the town building UI is clunky and for the most part unnecessary, things like that. There is an encyclopedia of sorts in the game but it doesn't seem to have progress indicators (for example: you can find rare "lore" items that add costumes and info, and they get added to the encyclopedia, but there's no indicator of how many lore items in the game you're still missing). I would also have loved to see just a few more quality of life additions, like some kind of story progress meter/ "next objective" indicator (which might have helped me complete the story sooner).

Overall, if you're willing to look past the minor bugs and don't get too attached to succeeding at any particular run with any particular character, or finding out the conclusion to the story - if you find joy in playing just for the sake of playing - this is still a very fun game. I'm a little bitter about the completionist aspects, especially since they didn't become apparent to me until I'd already invested so much time into the game. But for $10 on sale, you could do worse than 60 hours of fun.

指定の初期装備でクリアするミッションがたくさんあったり、途中でキャラが解放されるからこのモードだけでいろんなビルドを楽しめる。
ゲームは面白いけど、ストーリーモードはあまり面白くない。

Maybe I'm just stupid but I REALLY dislike this game. I tried to stick with it, and while the concept is solid, the execution has so far been terrible.

I'm 7 hours in, and I feel like I've spent those 7 hours desperately trying to make progress. I've been doing quests, trying to farm resources to unlock buildings and gear, and everything feels SLOWWWWW. Like, horribly, painstakingly, agonizingly slow. This is a roguelike! At the end of a couple runs, I should feel like I've unlocked something that'll let me attack the dungeon in a new way. But for the last 4 hours or so, each run has felt very similar to the last. with no sense of progression It's super disappointing.

Also, for people like me who don't have a mind for crafting a lil' town, It'd be nice if I could just turn that into a very simple menu. But instead it's some resource-intensive minigame that my stupid lizard brain sinks resources into without feeling like I'm making a lot of progress. It's REALLY bad. I haven't even unlocked a 2nd character yet and I don't have the will or desire to boot up the game again to see if maybe the next run, which will feel just like the run before it, will be any different.

This is a hard pass.

- 按键操作是靠蒙的。要不是问了AI，我都不知道点击切换攻击对象。

- 移动是纯点击的，但点哪都没用。
别误会！你行走的地方是战斗画面，你还没打开地图呢！
听完这句话↑你要懵了，这游戏的反直觉设计，就算给你免费体验到了。

- 地图那么核心，每走 1步就要点 2次，那肯定有快捷键吧？没有！
那事件后自动弹出呢？没有。直观高效的信息呈现呢？没有。
地图是个啥，一个既核心又糊弄，一拍脑袋的马虎东西。

- 哪怕没有自动整理吧，开局一键装包都不能有吗？
爆烂的仓库排序。物品锁定，售价小标，统统没有，朴素到不能再朴素。
放建筑不能缩放！放建筑1个鼠标要动3次，右键就直接退出建造。爆逊！
巨难用的任务栏。没有快捷提交，出门还得背记物品。
一万个待修复bug。读档岔路bug、读档小背包物品丢失、托运物品复制…

+ 更新多年，游戏内容量爆炸丰富，创意工坊品类杂多，

- 但优化体验的mod我竟是没看到。这怎么受得了的？

一整个平平无奇的回合制地牢类rouge体验，不同之处仅仅在背包管理。
没有永久数值成长，仅仅提供了图鉴收集作为持续游戏的动力。
家园系统的设计目的是开图鉴，任务系统的设计目的是开图鉴。
给人一种既大又空的感觉，总的来说，这就是Backpack Hero。

It's cute inventory management, and one of the later characters, CR-8, really requires thinking to make the most of (That's Good!), but inventory is glitchy (especially with the pet hero), there are balance issues with most status effects, and in the end the gameplay becomes a repetitive. Good for first 10 hours.

The game is unpolished, filled with unintuitive mechanics and what feels like unintentional obscurity.
There is a nice sense of discovery, but it becomes pretty clear quickly that you will get punished for esperimenting and it feels like the game does not want you to unlock additional characters.
There is so much that could be done better, many times I have turned the game off or abandoned runs in frustration.
For a few examples - if you generate a structure with a Brick Layer and put it into a slot that was taken up by another item, you can't put the item back into its original slot unless you put the structure in another slot - you can't abandon the structure once you realise that, you have to abandon an item;
- The enemies ramp up their damage thorough combat, which is not told to you in-game anywhere - this is a very lazy way of preventing players from playing defensively. I don't see a single benefit to this, cause if players want to play like an unkillable tank, just let them? It also introduces other issues - some strats are unaffected less than others, like stacking dodge, there are not enough player-sided scaling options, so it just narrows down the viable build pool to those focusing on upfront damage, your efficient management of space matters less, cause it barely matters if you have saved your consumables for the boss fight, at some point you will lose in one turn if you have not ended the fight till then;
- The achievements for the game have wrong descriptions; \
- A lot of the time saving and then loading will brick your run, like taking away all your energy on first turn of a boss battle, cause f*ck you, that's why, or just bugging out other encounters,
- Some buildings just refuse to work in the same way others do for no reason;
- You have to go around talking to NPCs proactively, cause they inconsistently alert you with exclamation marks when they have something to tell you.

There is lots more of these tiny frustrations that just pile on, especially considering how simple the game actually is.
I realised that at one point I was just playing the game because of my obsession with completionism, so if I had a healthier relationship with achievements, I would have dropped it much earlier.
Also, the game is really repetetive in terms of events and encounters - there are still events that give you 5 exp points when you need 200+ for a level up, like seriously?
Don't expect further updates, the game is essentially abandoned at this point.

Backpack Hero manages to take its simple conceit very far, and the rpg progression additions in later patches really takes it further, which i appreciate. Unfortunately, the new progression brought with it multiple soft-locking bugs and issues that completely takes the wind out of the sails of what should be short, snappy runs with repetition and having to repeat whole segments because an encounter didnt spawn correctly, or a flag didnt trigger

it was an interesting concept and fun for awhile but it's too grindy and buggy, i've had enough runs where you literally softlock yourself on the map and can't progress resulting in having to reload a previous save, it became too much to even bother with this game anymore, my favorite is when something bugs out for ??? reasons and you die, every run in this game takes a needlessly long amount of time.

also wtf were they thinking with Tote, seriously what a awful character that is just not fun at all (if you can even understand how she works lmao).

Enjoyed the entirety of this game it was on my Wishlist for a long time and an old friend bought it for me out of nowhere

The story is decent I wish there was more to it.

The Research system i LOVED it encouraged me to try new build to unlock more synergy's

The gameplay loop is VERY FUN and the different characters gameplay is distinct my favorite was the robot one of the last ones you unlock. I found that his plan ahead play style was the most enjoyable for me.

I feel the curse system could be more punishing as is i just ignored them

As for the challenge runs most were fun and provided a fun was to start runs even though most of them were fist try for me. The most difficult challenge and my favorite was the "Micro build" for the robot (took me many attempts)

Great game, gameplaywise it is like tetris (item shapes + synergies), inventory management (limited space), a bit of stategic dungeon crawler (order of exploration), city manager (not my favourite genre, but not annoying as its quite basic here) and deck builder (toad playable character - my least favourite).

My closest experience in gaming would be Ozymandias/Civilisation (not the same genre, but perception of time while playing is similar - there is always something small to do and switch to, very addictive).

Dungeon monsters get a bit repetitive (~6 monster types per biom; next bioms reuse some types with minor tweaks), but game has many cool, challenging quests (mostly affecting your gear that must be used for the whole run); bioms are okay, but rarely affect your build and strategy.

Each playable character gives interesting variation on mechanics and are actually fun to play (besides toad).

User interface can get a bit clunky at times - especially since the game mixes lots of genres and features (e.g., selling items (sorting) works terribly, deck building is ugly (imho), pets get descriptions too long for the screen to display). But overall User eXperience is pretty good.

Items to unlock are usually better than your previous gear (my biggest complaint about Dreamscaper - where many late game unlocks were barely usable due to clunky mechanics), but it is a bit difficult to truly plan your run - often you need to commit to specific type of gear for damage (weapons, bows, magic) and defense (armor+shields, magic, special effects) and it is difficult to switch to another type of gear mid run.

E.G.: switching between archery and magic; armor and structures;

Overall great game, that really keeps a good pace. To the moon!
