Plays great! Easy to move pieces, attack & defend. Have to pay attention to your supply situations.
Only wish there were a way to shift supplies beween the various headquarters. No airforce functions. No weather variations.
Old School board game brought to life... very light learning curve so you can just play and enjoy rather than get bogged down in rules. The combat results seem realistic although personally i think the heavy battle-hardened German armor should fare a little better.
All in all I definitely recommend for war game enthusiasts

I enjoy the antithetic history and timings for battle. it puts the whole Operation into perspective.

Excellent war game, reminds me of Hell's Highway and Highway to the Reich. Very simple but challenging. Worth the price.
I am outraged by the lack of depth this game offers. It's dull 2D representation of war is confusing and unbalanced. Nothing works as it should, and the die rolls are never in your favor. Please do yourself a favor and step away from the table.

Not a lot of substance here and just a bad "wargame". Their lighter games are actually better. This one, with its NATO counters, looks like a wargame, but its really just as light. Playing this is a waste of time. Play a real wargame instead. Or play a war-themed light game.... just not this.

Nonostante tutti questi difetti o mancanze, il gioco e’ coinvolgente. La frenesia per far affluire i rinforzi e tenere collegate le varie unita’ che presto o tardi resteranno isolate e’ costante. L’esito dei combattimenti non e’ mai scontato, ed anche se l’AI rappresenta un fattore solo ai livelli di difficolta’ piu’ elevati la tensione e’ sempre elevata. C’e’ sempre voglia di fare un turno ancora, grazie alla semplicita’ ed all’immediatezza del gioco.
Le partite non durano molto, in un paio di sere si arriva alla conclusione dello scenario principale; ce ne sono anche di minori, ma non sono altro che lo spezzettamento della campagna completa.
A me il gioco e’ piaciuto e lo ritengo una valida alternativa nei momenti in cui vogliamo giocare “di testa” senza impegnarci troppo.

So, that's 1 this time?
Wrong again, that's 1,3.
Now you want to cross the river with the Infantry and Infantry HQ. Can you guess what's the movement cost?
You though +1 or +2 depending on the river type ? Or +1 for infantry and +2 for HQ?
Silly you, it's 0 for both. Crossing the river is free.
Let's say your whole task force consists of 3 paratrooper units and their HQ, all grouped up, on the road, in range of HQ, not an enemy in sight.
Can you just plain and simple move them? Probably you are suspicious at this point. You are right to be suspicious. You cannot.
You've got only 3 command points available (best case) so you need to permanantly leave 1 unit behind. Why? No reason.

Can you please, please stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

After decades of playing board games this game is not that, nor does it even meet the criteria of a good "Beer and Pretzels" game in any genre be it electronic or good ol' board gaming. It is not even an acceptable recreation of the actual battle. Its not anything really...

Good light hex and counter wargame covering Market Garden. There are four scenarios (at battalion level), a choice of NATO counters or graphic counters, and you can play either side. The AI is decent (e.g. it's smart enough to screen its artillery), and despite the low counter density there are juuuust enough rules to incorporate supply and combined arms. Some negatives: the tutorial is terrible, and the CRT is undocumented. The UI scales poorly with weird aliasing. Changing the difficulty level mostly seems to give CRT shifts and give you a better or worse starting position. Overall I think it's a good'un and has some replay value too. It's in a kind of middle ground where it might be too light for the grognards but too wargamey for the common punter. Anyway, recommended, particularly on sale.
just purchased Assault on Arnhem but the map will not let me scroll. Instead it jumps back to about 10 hexes in the upper left hand corner. Is there a fix????
to start off, this game has rather strange movement rules. Only certain units can be moved on each turn. Why moving a unit from the 82nd airborne would effect a unit in XXX Corps, makes no sense to me at all. The game also does not allow any change from the poor placement of units in the actual operation, so different tactics cannot be tried out. On the up side, it was only ten dollars.
I got this very cheap but the game is too simplistic for my taste. The UserInterface leaves much to be desired and is slow. I quickly played to scenarios as the allies and won both. I never got a feel for this game and would not recommend it to anyone. There are better strategy games for this pricerange like October War and Hexagons Normandy.

There is no tutorial in game.
There are no graphics and the online battles can take literal weeks in real life to complete. This game is like d&d for army buffs and or people just into old world war tank battle enthusiast, you have to use a lot of your imagination while playing. Its a good hour or 2 before you get completely bored of it but its worth checking out if you can get it in a big bundle. Oh and the sounds are LOUD! Every weapon sound is like real life lol.

Пошаговая хексагонная стратегия. Честно говоря даже не захотелось вникать в правила, после того как после входа в игру сразу вылетел Popup сайт разработчиков с вылетом из игры. Затем когда зашел увидел, что нет музыки, не прорисованы юниты (текстом отображаются). Затем увидел тонну текста с обучением и понял, что даже если обучусь, в я это играть не буду... Оценивать не буду, но игра явно отталкивающая и 10 евро точно не стоит.

Wargame de los de toda la vida, con sus hexágonos, sus fichas monocolor... y toda la nostalgia del mundo.
Assault on Arnhem es un juego menor, de perfil bajo, que recrea la campaña Market Garden de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, donde tropas paracaidista británicas fueron lanzadas sobre Holanda con la misión de capturar y asegurar los puentes mas importantes ante el avance de las tropas de tierra.
Sin duda una de las campañas mas famosas de la guerra... y también una de las mas breves, por lo que ya sabemos que el juego va a ser mas bien corto. En concreto el juego consta de tres escenarios cortos y la campaña completa que viene a ser jugarlos todos juntos. Eso si, se pueden jugar tanto con los aliados como con los alemanes, cosa que siempre se agradece.
Pero no lo considero un juego menor solo por su corta duración, que también, sino porque es un wargame de complejidad básica, muy sencillote y muy fácil de jugar... O sea, que esta en la base de la piramide del genero. Pero es que además y muy a mi pesar tiene una mala inteligencia artificial muy mala, incapaz de suponer un verdadero reto al jugador veterano. Suerte que tiene modo multijugador... pero solo es posible en el mismo equipo por lo que el juego cojea por varios lados, la verdad.
El juego no esta mal pero sabe a poco. Por la poca duración, la escasa complejidad y la inexistencia de algo que se parezca a un reto.
No obstante, puede ser un juego recomendable para los no iniciados que quieran introducirse en el género de los wargames y para los fanáticos y completistas el género.
Especialmente recomendado a los nostálgicos del Arnhem, aquel fantástico juego que tantas horas nos dió en el querido y venerado Spectrum.

Na początku gra zupełnie mi nie podeszła. Krótka, nieciekawa graficznie, niezrozumiała.
Ale postanowiłem jej dać szansę. Przeczytałem instrukcję, zacząłem grać jeszcze raz... i poszło.
Okazuje się, że to naprawdę fajna gra. Tylko grajcie na poziomie hard, bo na easy jest, no cóż, za łatwa.
No lo voy a recomendar, no debido a que sea basíco en cuanto a gráficos; es un juego de estrategia basado en tablero de hexagonos con fichas que representan las unidades militares, no tiene que ser bonito gráficamente, por lo tanto no es que no lo recomiende por eso. Simplemente creo que no es fácil de entender la mecánica de juego.
Solo lo recomendaría para los muy forofos de los wargames de tablero.
So im grossen und ganzen ein schönes Spiel nur finde ich das man es sich nur im Sale kaufen kann. Man kann wählen zwischen Deutschen und Amis und jede Nation hat 4 Missionen. Also nicht wirklich was grosses.
Wie ich einem Review entnommen habe mit den Panzern usw auf offen Feld besiegt von Fallschirmjägern, das kann ich nur bestätigen. Hatte meinen Panzer auch auf offenem Feld angreifen lassen da sich eine feindliche Fallschirmjäger Einheit dort befunden hat und ich muss sagen mein Panzer hat grosse Verluste erlitten,auf offenem Feld unmöglich.
Ihr habt pro Runde eine bestimmte Anzahl an Aktionspunkte,mit denen ihr Einheiten bewegen könnt oder verschanzen,danach kommt die Angriffsphase. Hab jetzt von deutscher Seite her 3 Missionen gespielt und muss sagen man sieht da nicht wirklich eine grosse Schwierigkeit. Einheiten an den verteidigenden Punkt fahren und bis zum Rundenlimit Ende einfach nur Angriffe abwehren und somit Mission bestanden.
Das Spiel ist nicht schlecht aber auch nicht gut. Ist so mittendrin. Im Sale für 2 -3 Euro kann man es sich auf jedenfall holen. Für fast 10 Euro finde ich es zu teuer. Der Daumen geht nach oben aber nur für den billigen Sale Kauf,

Bon petit wargame, compréhensible même si on ne maitrise qu'un peu l'anglais. Google translate permet de traduire les mots inconnus...très pratique!
Es bastante flojito en todo. No lo recomendaría.
Sur le principe ça pourrait être un bon wargame or quand vous avez 30 unités sur la map voir plus de 70 et que vous ne pouvez en bouger que 6 ou 7 ou 10 maximum suivant vos points de déplacements par tour, ou est le réalisme d'une guerre de mouvement...
et le pire quand vous voulez renforcer une unité, il faut la mettre en mode ZzzzZz dodo près de votre QG et c'est tellement lent et long à se reformer qu'en fait elle ne vous servira plus à rien....
Le jeu bug au niveau des succès, je gagne les missions axis ou alliés et je ne reçois pas le succès.
Bizarrement, impossible de faire des sauvegardes.
Le jeu est pas mauvais mais ça gâche le plaisir ces quelques problèmes

TLDR: Flat hexagonal tiles with little appeal, no music, repetitive loud sound effects whenever moving a unit. Unit sprites are just tokens with stuff written on it.
Might or might not be great mechanically I could not frankly tell. Most of the grand strategy games can get very granular about your supply lines and actual unit stats but I can hardly ever tell the difference. I know I will never find any entertainment value in nearly all of the titles of this genre, except maybe the odd exception for games made by Paradox. Removed for declutter
This game could be great. It needs a couple simple fixes but seems to have been abandoned by the developer.
This would be ok (barely ok) on a tablet or ipad. On a big screen it sucks immediately, big time, mostly because of the graphics.
Some games should remain where they belong: in the small portable world.
El único problema que puedes tener con este juego es no saber lo que compras. Si eres consciente que es un juego wargame puro, sin artificios, muy táctico y poco estratégico.....Te encantará. Okay I picked this game up with a bundle of a few others made by the same maker . first I have a writing issue from a head tramua in 2004 so excuse the grammer/spelling .
Okay the games sell for about 10 bucks regular at the review time they are 5 bucks I would pay that for this one . I like turn base games they are not for every one , so if you never played one get one in a time frame and intrest you really like do not pay much as they are not for every one either .
these game are not very hard to learn read the manual 20 minutes a play through maybe on the first battle on battle on easy with tips then go to normal take tips off and good to go . Graphics are okay I am playing with Nato counters . thease games are pretty light turn based games also not heavey in depth as I also do some game testing for this type but heavey stratigic ones . I call thease a lunch hour game or 6 pack game play

Ein rundenbasiertes Hexfeld-Strategiespiel. Ich bin da hin und her gerissen. Auf der einen Seite mag ich so Spiele. Aber hier verstehe ich einige Dinge nicht: Anscheinend unterscheidet das Spiel in der Wirkung etc. nicht zwischen verschiedenen Panzermodellen. Deutsche Panzer werden auf offenem Feld von britischen Fallschirmjäger besiegt. Panzer haben im Unterschied zu leichter Heeresflak und PaK keine 2 Felder (oder mehr) Reichweite. SS-Panzergrenadiere werden von Fallschirmjäger auf offenem Feld besiegt. Ich verliere obwohl ich Arnheim halte. Mag sein das ich das Spiel nicht richtig verstanden habe. Trotzdem fragwürdige Dinge. Für Einsteiger in die Hexfeld-Strategie durchaus in Ordnung. Für erfahrene Spieler rate ich aber zu anderen Titel.

Assault on Arnhem (AoA) is a entry-level wargame (read: quite simple) set inside of the Operation Market Garden airborne invasion of German-occupied Netherlands during WWII. The game is hex-based and leans heavily on RNG elements.
[u]The "Good":[/u]
The simplicity of the game lends itself well to tablet, but that also means that the game is extremely simple to pick up and learn.
[u]The "Bad":[/u]
The tablet-port aspect of the game makes little attempt to appeal to gamers on the PC, and I am sensitive to this in the fear that future games will follow in its path. The tutorial retains the words "tap the screen" and "pinch in or out", and there is a lack of any PC-focused interface (e.g. everything is done with left-click, right-click doesn't work).
[u]The "Ugly":[/u]
[i](Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder -- this section is my opinion on the game in a more subjective manner.)[/i] I personally am not a fan of largely RNG-based games (like Risk or Monopoly), and AoA rewards chance more than solid tactics. You can replay the same mission dozens of times with the same strategy/tactics, and get wildly different results, which is to say that the tactics only give you a chance at winning, but you have to wait for the dice to roll in your favor to win.

I can't recommend this game. This is a straight tablet port with no effort to adapt the UI or Gameplay to PC.
The game lacks too much refinement or depth for a PC game.
- The command system is quite good and supply system is ok, but the combat model is too simplistic.
- The game doesn't make any difference between a Pz IV unit and a Tiger II one.
- The AI is bad both from a global perspective and also for local tactic.
- It is very hard to know which unit is attached to which HQ, a color code would have been so helpufl (and easy to add).
- There are only 4 scenario, one is over in 5 min. One feature the British around Arnhem and another the US around Nijmegen the last one combine those two scenarios in a big one, however it is easy to abuse the command system in the big one. So you are left with two scenarios which are not so good. Very limited replayability
- Overal this offers only limited challenge and doesn't give the feel for the historical battle.
NOTE: I DID PAY FOR THIS GAME.
For an operation that had very few chances to succeed in the first place, surely Market Garden has been overly popular among wargames. I think there are about 20 boardgames of old on the same theme.
This tiny video game version draws its inspiration and style directly from those SPI’s an Avolon Hill’s versions of the ill-conceived airborne assault on Arnhem: hex grid, NATO counters, command points, brutally simple map.
This should be considered as an introductory-level wargame: only 4 kinds of units (tanks, infantry, anti-tanks, artillery), three scenarios (one for each key bridge) and one campaign (pretty much the aforementioned three scenarios in a row), very basic terrain effects.
As such, it’s effective.
PROS:
+ Simple, yet somehow realistic (playing as the Axis is much easier)
+ Interesting supply system that some majors should learn something from (do you hear me, Paradox?)
+ The command points / activation system, while somehow obscure in its mechanics, makes it challenging to “prevent” historical events.
CONS:
- Little appeal for expert players, due its raw simplicity
- The way anti-tanks work is, well, odd
- Very short (10 hours if you play all scenarios and campaigns, on both sides of… the bridge)
- Lacks single-player replayability

This small piece of software brings to memory first computer strategy games, concretely "Arnhem: The Operation Market Garden" from R.T.Smiths. Simple but a challenge. I think it's a must try. As someone said it's a good entry point to the genre. Congrats Hexwar.
Du pur Wargame sur table des années 70-80, on devra donc faire abstraction pour les graphismes. 3 scénarios avec choix du niveau de difficulté sont proposés (Grave, Nimègue et Arnhem) pour se faire la main, chacun ayant comme objectif de prendre et de défendre le pont si important. Enfin, une belle campagne propose de jouer l'opération entière. Si les règles sont simples, il à noter toutefois que plusieurs méchanismes sont présents (possibilité de se retrancher, choisir que la défense, bonus de cohésion pour une attaque avec des troupes sous le même commandement, rôle important du génie, de l'artillerie et de l'anti-char et possibilité de mettre des troupes au repos). Les unités de commandement ont de l'importance pour la récupération des troupes mises au repos mais aussi pour le ravitaillement en munitions des troupes. On trouve aussi du parachutage de ravitaillement. Un système de points d'actions oblige chaque joueur à faire des choix à chaque tour pour savoir quelles unités agiront. Cerise sur le gâteau, un mode multijoueurs est présent. Je conseille ce jeu pour tous les nostalgiques de AH et SPI mais aussi pour ceux qui désirent jouer un wargame facile d'accès mais pas simpliste sur la campagne mythique qu'est l'Opération Market Garden. A vous de jouer "Un Pont Trop Loin".

This game is great!!if you actually give it a chance(to those with the negative reviews!),and can get past the average or non existent graphics,but these TBS games are like this,this isnt gary grisbys or Decisive campaigns for that matter,but its definately worth the price its up for,and a great addition even if for those just starting out in TBS.If you love the whole Arnhem?red devil thing then this game comes reccomended on RPSG(rockpapershotgun)Im using mouse and kb and this game works FINE!(At the time of this review there was an issue with The Ported version hence comment about KB).If like me you want to learn on games like this before progressing onto Hardcore TBS like gary Grigsby's then this is great place to begin.

Background historique assez précis, simple d'accès mais rapidement addictif.
Le genre : "allez encore un tour" et on y passe deux heures.

I played many hex boardgames as a kid (Panzer General, Napoleonic campaigns, civil war etc), loved em. This is not working very well in comparison.
For example, I just played exactly the same scenario of Nijhelm as both allies and then axis, but each time the units for the enemy side were altered? Where the heck did they come from?
This doesn't seem historical to me, it is either accurate or it's not, which is it?
The other thing is I do not recall a limitation on how many units you can move, it was only limited by their movement allowance, another innacuracy compared to the boardgames, and also unrealistic to say the least.
Not going to play anymore and will seek refund as this is not very well done at all.
At least not a bad game if you are searching für a Computer-Version of old school Hex-Boardgames. The strategic mechanics, graphics and the gameplay are well done for this kind of game. The reason why i wouldn´t recommend it is simply missing content. The four scenarios use the same map and are rather short. Every scenario simply starts on another part of the map, as axis or allies. To look like a 80s boardgame is great, to have less content than one is not.
If you want to enter the world of classical wargaming and to be a groghead, here is where you should start.
Get this game, it is cheap and not like other wargames on the market which are very costly and only hardcore fans of wargaming will buy it, because they know exactly what they are getting.
Assault on Arnhem is not only affordable wargame, it is also very accessible and easy to understand and play.
It is simplified comparing to the big names of WW2 wargames, but it is still a true wargame with all supplies, moral, HQ, terrains and order of battle system and mechanism are just there.
The interface and tool tips are clear and easy to understand, the mission are just clear and have a lot of strategy to do.
Unlike most of WW2 wargames where you play mostly on divisions level, here you play on lower scale (battalions), where also each turn consist of 2 hours, you have also night battles.
Each mission have certain objective and must achieved within a certain time.
You can play either allies as an attackers with mostly paratroopers units, or as an axis to defend certain location.
If you like this game, you can later look for something similar but more complex like Slithering/ Matrix games such as Decisive Campaigns or War in the East.
If you are already a wargamer, it is nice to add this game to you collection which you can play interesting scenarios of operation Market Garden.
Looked good but after 2 hours boring - odd order system so you cannot move all units - stupid time limits so units must be moved in an exact way so you can complete on time - no real planning just keep playing over and over and over until you get the right move sequence to complete in time limit required - was hoping it was going to be like the original arnhem board game i bought many years ago but on a computer - sadly not.
This game literally achieves a breakthrough in the light strategy game market. I analyzed it in a detailed way for the purpose of a French review on Historia Games website ( http://www.histogames.com/HTML/test/assault-on-arnhem.php ). I found that the developer did a great job trying to simplify the game mechanisms without sacrificing too much of the historical context and realistic unit behaviour. Assault on Arnhem is easy to grab, it works fine and it provides an exciting challenge to green as well as experienced players. A substantial achievement from my point of vue. I want more of this kind of games!

muy buen juego de estrategia por turnos al más estilo clasico.
Puntos fuertes:
exactitud histórica de unidades,
sistema de desgaste en combate,
sistema de reposición de fuerza de combate muy lógico
asignación de HQ a unidades,
sencillez de manejo
Puntos debiles:
nula inteligencia artificial para juego de 1 jugador, que hace practicamente obligado la partida para 2 jugadores para tener un mínimo de interes.

Just what i was looking for, a deep turned based hex style war game that is APPROACHABLE FOR ANYONE.
About time a game like this came along, and for a fair price to top it off.
I just hope there are more titles of this nature in the works.
Operational-level simulation of Operation Market-Garden in 1944 with hexagon map, battalion-sized units, ranged attack for artillery and anti-tank units, supply, fog of war, and most importantly limited command points which forces players to prioritize some moves and combat over others. This is the same operation that the book and film A Bridge Too Far is about, and this little game reminds me of a paper-and-dice game published by SPI in their magazine Fire & Movement in the early 1980s. So far the AI at medium has been fairly easy for me to defeat, playing both Axis and Allies, but this can be played with up to four people and several AI levels. Very good playability, with the full campaign lasting 4-6 hours in single player mode. I only wish the AI came in crazy aggressive mode because so far it has been a competent but sedate opponent. Recommended.
A very enjoyable and easy to understand hex-based historical wargame. This will be a great gateway game to get some of my friends started in the genre. Easy rules but there's plenty going on under the hood to please old grognards. Keep up the fine work and keep that pricepoint where it is.
