This is a very very very boring game. I dont know what it wants to be, the story is just so bland and the amount of pointless dialogue is absurd. I have actually played the game for like 2 hours despite it sowing under an hour and there was barely any gameplay.

I really wanted the game to surprise me but i just couldnt stomach any more.

I wanted to like Arcade Spirits because the whole retro arcade dating sim idea sounds awesome, but it just didn’t land for me. The dialogue feels kind of forced and overly cheesy after a while. A lot of the choices don’t seem to matter much, which makes replaying routes less exciting. The characters had potential, but most of them felt one-note. It ended up feeling more like clicking through text than actually shaping a story.

Arcade Spirits is a well realized quest for love and a love letter to the different corners of video gaming. The romance options cater to different tastes in appearance, personality, and even what nerdy hobby they might have, and even though the game’s setting is a bit futuristic, its references to real video games and more niche parts of gaming give it some appreciated authenticity between the fluffy and fairly positive dating sim aspects. The core story of building up the arcade has its own effective plot points even if you don’t want to date anyone you meet, but there are nice layers to your romance options that are interesting to plumb or just to see arise as the tight knit bunch of characters interacts with each other no matter your path through the plot.

I enjoyed this game and recommend it with two caveats:

1) you are forced into choosing who to spend time with, without being allowed to explore all possibilities before deciding if you want to date someone. Two people I was interested in were mutually exclusive. I didn't want to date everyone, but I at least wanted the option to get to know them before choosing.

2) The "good ending" achievement is the bad ending. The game forces you into a binary without giving you the option of real-life decisions. You either go with the ending where everyone abandons you without any options to turn things around, or you abandon everything mid-game. It's a false dichotomy that should allow you the option to change your mind later or fix things at the end, but the game just says "nope, you made your choice, no going back."

I'll say right off the bat I'm not the biggest fan of visual novels I received this game in a humble bundle. To quote Retsuko "Releasing a new song is like dropping a grain of sand in the desert." and cheap visual novel games... lets be honest all games are now grains of sand. Either you need to drop a gem stone or a sea urchin to be truly worth recommending. The good: Some of the dialog hits emotional notes. The bad: unfortuntaely there's a lot to list... Overuse of pop-culture, comedy every second screen, inclusion to the point it felt like stereotyping, choices don't matter, and honestly around chapter three I felt like I was reading a story from chat GPT as I was the bestest smartest most beautifulest person who ever lived but I have a "tough upbringing". At $20 this game is exorbaidnatly expensive, and even at $5 I'd be hard pressed to recommend with better free visual novels out there.

I’m a bit shocked by what I’ve played here. On one hand, this isn’t my usual style of game—I’m not super into dating sims or romance novels, and this one checks all the boxes for a PG-rated teenage rom-com. On the other hand, I couldn’t stop playing. I genuinely wanted to see what difference my choices made, and I ended up playing through the game multiple times to romance all of the characters and watch the events unfold. Spoiler: they don’t differ that much. Still, the underlying story writing is…pretty good. Is it award-winning fiction? Probably not. But I enjoyed it nonetheless.

You play as Ari, and since Ari can be any gender you want, I’ll refer to them as “they” just to cover all bases. Ari, in the modern sense, is what most people would consider a genuine loser. They have no confidence, no real prospects in life, and they tend to assume everything is going to fall apart. One day, their roommate gives them a digital assistant named Iris, who then helps them land a job at the Funplex, a local arcade. In this universe, the video game crash never happened, and arcades continued to grow into a thriving industry. As it turns out, Ari has the potential to be surprisingly charming and charismatic, even with their lack of self-confidence, and they work toward helping the Funplex grow into a real success. Of course, this all happens before the rug-pull moment, ensuring the drama lasts through the end of the game. The writing isn’t half bad, and the plot is engaging enough to keep you invested.

The romance in this game is bizarre. You go on one date and suddenly you and your partner are professing your undying love. Um…okay. That’s not how relationships work, and it feels like someone’s idealized fantasy of how love should work. More power to them, but it’s very unrealistic. The characters themselves are also mostly…ugly. There are a few attractive ones, but most look like amateur anime sketches thrown together. If you’re worried about women being over-sexualized, don’t be—that’s not the case at all. The men, however? Oh boy. These guys have ten-packs with absolutely no visible body fat. It feels like the exaggerated male bodies from TERA, complete with the obligatory heroic bulge. Every character also conveniently has no sexual preference: everyone dates everyone, which effectively makes the entire cast pansexual. It’s unrealistic, but at least it gives you complete freedom to romance who you want.

Despite all that, the characters really grew on me, and I ended up enjoying each of them in their own way. Overall, the game is interesting enough to be worth a read. I’d recommend it—just don’t expect the emotional highs of a Telltale game. It’s simply an entertaining story to experience.

Non mi aspettavo il capolavoro, ma neanche qualcosa così basic.

Una VN che lascia a desiderare per quanto riguarda personalizzazione del proprio pg - ridotta all'osso, talmente osso che per forza di cose ci si dovrà adeguare ad avere un personaggio androgino -, caratterizzazione dei png - poco interessanti, nonostante la cura nello stile e le piccole attenzioni apprezzabili nel doppiaggio -, dialoghi - a tratti cringe al pari di un episodio di Seven Heaven, alle volte così noiosi e fini a se stessi che *skipskipskip* -, eventi di trama - certe cose proprio non si riescono a spiegare -, interazioni con i png - molto molto strane, tendenzialmente si trasformano in mini sedute di psicoterapia quando meno te lo aspetti -.

Forse sono solo una vecchia ciabatta delusa dall'hype di provare una VN ambientata in una sala giochi dai sapori anni '80 (ah già, neanche quelli ci sono, manco i sapori anni '80!), ma a parte qualche risvolto gradevole di trama, non ho trovato niente di memorabile.

I'm a big fan of 80's/90's arcade culture and thought that modernizing it a bit made for a great concept! Unfortunately, the game fell flat of my expectations.

I've only played Ashley's romance route at this time, but based on a few other reviews, it's safe to say that the shallow writing is consistent no matter who you spend your time with. I'm also glad someone else pointed out how odd some of the stereotypes were with romance options and npcs alike. Pacing is a huge problem when you get to the latter chapters as well, as we meet too many people in too little time near immediately after the romance scenarios. It's cluttered and flows very poorly, it all feels forcefully strung together.

And, for a more personal gripe, I am not a fan of [spoiler]the Polybius plot. I tried to shake it off the first time around, but the ending...? Why do we need this? It's touched on for one chapter and then loops back around, I'll assume it has influence in the sequel too but I just don't care for bringing decades-old urban legends into a story that didn't reference them until midway through.[/spoiler]

Will I pick up the sequel if I see it on sale? Honestly, yeah. But this one? I can't say I'd recommend it to anyone, no. I wish I could've loved it, but it wasn't the game I hoped for.

It was fine, and is most likely worth your time. There will probably be plenty of things you like, and plenty of things you don't like. Overall, for me, there were a few small issues, but Arcade Spirits get's what's important right.

I think there is a lot of variety in your options and how you say things. The writing is consistent - it wasn't my favorite style of writing, but it did not grate or distract too heavily. The opening was rough, but then definitely picked up midway through the first episode.

The voice work was well-done. The voice actors talked like actual human beings, and helped flesh out each character. The most glaring issue to me was the microphone clipping on one of Hamza's stock lines. I also did need to change the music volume from its default to hear most of the voices well.

This was my second visual novel, so if this is your tenth or hundredth we may have different perspectives. The developers clearly put a lot of genuine work and passion into this, and there's a lot to like if you give it a chance.

Comprei o jogo com a intenção de seguir romance com a Naomi, porém quando a Tavin/Queenbee começou a mostrar mais da sua personalidade, não teve dúvidas. O jogo é muito interessante, a história é boa, por mais que não seja tão complexa, também não é simples. Única coisa que senti falta foram mais "imagens" para retratar os momentos, tem que ser tudo pela tua imaginação, mas nada que realmente afete a experiência. Me surpreendi positivamente.

I hate that I didn't like it!! I'm a queer person who loves dating sims and rpgs and will play absolute garbage but this one filled me with such immeasurable disappointment that I couldn't even brush it off as "whatever".

All the characters are super shallow and many of them fall into really gross stereotypes. The autistic girl is super childish, the indian girl is super aggressive, and the fat guy is on the verge of death. The latter really, really got me because there's so few fat guys or bears in VNs and this is another one in the dark halls of "poorly written afterthought bear LI".

Hey why does the only fat character have a heart attack? Why is his romance constantly plagued about how he's going to die? Why does he look exactly like the OTHER boring fat guy in Dream Daddy? Why did the 2nd game not include a fat guy at all?

I wish I could still return this game.

Oh man, I found this game via an interview by DarkTeaTime's interview with Stefan Gagne about games that offer features and options for Asexual gamers and honestly don't tend to do a ton of graphic novel like games, but decided on a whim to give this one a try and it was exactly what I needed.
Despite not playing many text/choice based games like this, the ones that I have tried in the past often felt a bit isolating because I couldn't relate to the narration whatsoever, so I constantly would have to imagine everything I did from the perspective of someone who thought more like the narration to get any direction I wanted to go but this game felt like it might've been reading my mind half the time to the point where I actually had to stop a few times and laugh in surprise at being able to say exactly what I would've wanted to in real life.
It was incredibly refreshing and helped immensely with immersion for me and so I had the most fun I think I've ever had playing one of these games. It even managed to squeeze a few tears out of me, which I need to be quite focused and immersed in something to do.

My critiques? At most they're just my own biases, like how I found Naomi's voice offputting and her lipstick color just felt super out of character and jarring (but she still won me over as a character and still considered her as a romance option for a good portion of the game. irl we'd definitely be close friends.) but that's about it really. Great game. Refreshing characters with very real feeling takes on the situations in the game. I might just have to play another round.

I really loved this game, the characters and story were relatable and endearing. The dialogue was funny and emotional and there are many different routes you can take. I had trouble choosing who to pursue because I liked them all! Eventually I played through all the romances/endings, and it was worth it for me. Extra points for having queer romances and the ability to use they/them pronouns. Can't wait to buy New Challengers!

Bastante divertido y entretenido, me lo he pasado de maravilla en estas 20 hs de juego, lo unico que no me termino de convencer fue el villano Deco Nami, aparece en el penultimo y la forma en como le ganamos me parecio un poco forzada/deus ex machina, hubiese estado bueno que Deco se hubiese presentado como una amenaza desdo los primeros capitulos, y nos fuera poniendo obtaculos que debemos superar, pero dejando eso de lado el juego me gusto bastante. La ruta de amor de Ashley me parecio bastante hermosa llegue a encariñarme mucho con ella y el resto de personajes. Como dije recomendado, y no veo la hora de jugar a la secuela.

I had played an insanely slow and boring 2.5 hours of this at first, then cast it aside for weeks with no intentions of ever picking it up again. As soon as I did though the story *finally* had something interesting happen and I was able to start making advances to date someone.

The story moves through about the time frame of a year, broken up in 8 chapters, so each chapter is like months after the last one. This isn't like you meet someone and right away start dating- the game wants you to build friendships first. Which is fine, just be prepared to be in the friendzone with light flirting til maybe 5 hrs in when I finally got to go on my first date with Teo. The story had some twists, your choices do truly matter! And it was awesome I was allowed the option to choose to physically punch the bad guy when he deserved it.

Didn't expect to finish this, definitely will not be going back and playing again a bunch just to get the rest of the romancing achievements. it's a 7/10 and I'm *mildly* glad I did come back to it and finish the story line.

FYI there's no nudity, but there are bathing suits on a beach for one chapter. In my play through of successfully romancing someone, you experience nothing more than kissing, hand holding, "i love yous" and nice flirting and emotional support.

Small complaint about your character design: I'm all for androgyny, but my character was so gender-neutral it was a little immersion breaking for me. There should have been 3 body types/looks to choose from, not 3 hair styles. The baggy hoodie ensemble your character wears the whole time kinda sucks too. It always makes you look out of place compared to the rest of the characters. It makes you look sloppy despite being at an interview, at work, or going to an important business meeting about the future of the arcade. These are silly cosmetic things, yes, I know, but they can make the difference between me really feeling like I was part of the game or just going through it.

If you're a fan of slow burn VN's where your choices matter and you can PG level date someone while trying to become a better person- this might be worth your while.

I adore visual novels/dating sims, so I was really looking forward to trying this one as it looked quite cute, but I have to say that it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment.

The story itself is okay — it's nothing special and rather cliché, though its cosy feel-good vibes can still be enjoyed if you don't expect high quality storytelling. I did like the addition of Iris, which gave the whole story a gamified feeling that fit the theme nicely. Then there's the rest of the cast, which is quite diverse and fun to get to know, except once you do they all turn out to be a bit shallow and one-dimensional.

Finally, the romance options feel a bit abrupt in that you're telling each other "I love you" a single scene later. It feels like the game is missing a lot of fluff, with too much focus on the main narrative (which, as I said before, isn't the greatest either) and expecting the player to fill in all the rest. But I'm a romantic! I want to see all that unncesseray fluffy goodness, even if it's with a cheap cutout version of my avatar that doesn't seem to fit the rest of the game's aesthetic! That's what I'm here for! But alas. (To be fair I've only finished the Percy romance at this point, so maybe other routes get more of that stuff?) (Edit: I've finished all romance options at this point and it doesn't really get any better. All romances sort of follow the same pattern with the same drama points)

As for technical details, the game worked fine-ish on my Steamdeck. Every now and again it froze and occasionally I even had to restart the game. Plus you kinda have to figure out for yourself how to work around the text insert parts of the game. Other than that, the game's performance was fine.

TLDR: It's definitely worth the buck I got it for during a sale, but I don't recommend paying full price for this.

The game aesthetic is cute, the art is beautiful and the story is fun. I enjoyed the IRIS and the way it tracks your personality and your relationships with all the characters. The music was cool and the voice acting excellent. I had fun playing it but I felt like the romance aspect was too small. You barely get a chance to flirt with the characters, most interactions are purely platonic until you make a choice and focus on one person only. It's a good visual novel but it lacks in the dating sim aspect. I would probably get it on sale.

As a life-long fan and collector of physical gamebooks ("Choose Your Own Adventure" and the like), I've been curious about visual novels and have occasionally dabbled in them -- but they've never really captured much of my attention, perhaps because so many of them seem to be about scantily-clad anime girls, and that doesn't inspire me to expect a lot in the way of narrative potential. This is probably the first one I've taken the time to play to 100% achievement completion.

The electronic nature of the visual novel format allows this to tread a slightly different path than its paper cousins. While gamebooks most frequently follow the "branching path" (lots of choices, many endings) or "one true path" (one good ending, obstacles along the way) patterns, this game instead has a fairly fixed and linear narrative, but the player's decisions and behavior cause different details to get filled in along the way, leveraging the computer's memory in a way that would be impractical in analog format. Every playthrough tells the same story with the same basic plot beats, but the flavor can be significantly different each time. Sometimes it feels more like a personality test than a game, but that's not necessarily a bad thing -- I enjoyed discovering how different some parts ended up being if I moved outside of my personal comfort zone.

Mechanics aside, I found the story of the game enjoyable and charming, if perhaps a little too earnest and slightly more predictable than it thinks it is. This is, at its core, an exercise in cozy wish-fulfillment about self-empowerment and people being supportive of one another. That's certainly not a bad thing, especially if it's what you're looking for, but sometimes it feels just a little over-the-top how the game's fairly diverse cast of personalities are so consistently united in their glowing praise and unconditional support of the player character (whether or not there's romance in the air). If you're looking for a pick-me-up, you can't go wrong here, but if you're after gritty realism or problems without (relatively) simple solutions, this might prove too fluffy.

The cast of characters is probably the game's greatest strength, since a game about talking to people wouldn't be much fun with nobody worth talking to. Each character has a distinct personality and fits some archetype or other, but most have a bit of interesting backstory or a second layer to provide a little more depth. The characterization is simple without feeling simplistic. In working through all the relationships to get all the achievements, I found myself liking most of the characters more, rather than less, when I learned more about who they were -- which is a credit to the writing. In some cases (though certainly not all), the main thing holding me back from engaging with the characters was the art and/or voice-acting. Most off-putting for me were moments where high-pitched anime-style girlish squealing clashed against the game's more down-to-earth portrayals.

I realize that I have laced my comments with critiques about the game, but that's mainly in the interest of not overselling it. I enjoyed it a lot and happily ignored its minor flaws. Even if you don't love it enough to want to see every potential path, it's well worth a single play-through, since the first try should tailor itself to your personal preferences and give you a satisfying experience. If you want a light, story-driven game that will engage you for a couple of hours (or possibly longer) without a lot of obstacles or frustration, this is for you. If you're looking for deep realism or a difficult gameplay challenge, then maybe it isn't -- but I'd still encourage you to circle back and try this when in the right mood.

Damn, this was a fantastic visual novel. I'll admit, it was a li'l slow to warm up. But by the end I was on the verge of tears multiple times, with actual investment into the well being of (some of) the characters.

Stefan Gagne is a name I recognised from the days of NWN, and the stunning Penultima modules. I purchased this game solely on that premise, and his talented and captivating storytelling shines strongly in this VN.

11/10 highly recommend. Been a long time since I had a game this good.

Initially had some issues with freezing while playing on Steam Deck (unsure if fixed) - so I restarted on my PC with no freezing issues.

Game is gorgeous, made me tear up a few times. Will likely play through again.

The characters are all very unique and fun, I would've liked to see a few more different body types amongst female/femme presenting romance candidates though! But I really loved how well developed the characters were with their different personalities and styles.

I loved the Iris feature.

I felt like the story was really cool and not predictable or repetitive at all.

Happy that there was options for a they/them pronouns.

Excited to play the next one when I get round to it I'm hoping for a little more character customisation.

What a fun dating sim! LGBTQ+ rep including an ace-centered platonic plot line, with charming characters and pretty neat graphics. Got this in a key bundle and was not disappointed. Very well-written interactive visual novel about a guy/girl who didn't had much luck in life so far, but finds something to live for when they get a job in a retro arcade hall. You'll meet a bunch of great/crazy/funny/charming people, become close friends with some of them and you can even romance the one you like most. A few decent plot twists keep the story interesting until the end. Very recommended, I even purchased the sequel right after finishing this one.

Arcade spirits is a really fun visual novel / dating sim game! I’ve only finished the game once or twice (both times I dated Ashly cus gahhh she’s just so cute >.<), but both times I had a great time!

Gameplay wise, it’s a lot of reading and clicking dialogue options, which definitely isn’t everybody’s cup of tea! But for those who enjoy visual novel style games, I definitely recommend picking it up! I originally played Arcade spirits on a different platform, but I loved it so much that I bought it full price on steam :3

The story is VERY fun, all the characters are amazing, it’s about pg13 I’d say with it’s maturity, it’s definitely got suggestive dialogue, and near the end there’s a beach day where they wear swimsuits, which is relativity revealing because, yk, swimsuit.

it’s not very violent either, there is that one scene where you get shot in the leg but there’s no illustrations of it, and the description isn’t super graphic or anything!

It’s just saucy enough for it to not feel like it’s deliberately censored for the kiddies , but there’s nothing explicit enough to be too mature for tweens/teens to also enjoy!

The soundtrack and sound design is amazing! The illustrations and character designs are awesome, the backgrounds are awesome!

The story is fluff and angst at the same time, which is my favorite genre!

It’s quite queer friendly without it feeling like the devs are trying to get ‘woke points’ so they have something to point to as a reason they aren’t being homophobic while actively doing homophobic stuff (IM LOOKING AT YOU DISNEY)

you have the option to choose gender neutral pronouns, and you can date any of the dateable characters regardless of your and the characters gender! You can even choose to not date any of the dateable characters if you want! Aroace representation wooo!

the only thing I wish there was more of is the option to date multiple characters at once in a poly. I am one who does not like to choose TwT, I LOVE THEM ALL!

there’s no limit to when you can save, so if you mess up a dialogue option you can just reload to whenever you want as long as you saved then.

there’s not a lot of actual gameplay, like I said it’s mostly reading and dialogue options, so there aren’t a lot of skills related to the game, but I still think it’s technically speedrunable, if you wanna speedrun a visual novel for some reason haha!

I haven’t got around to playing the new challengers dlc yet, or doing runthroughs dating the other characters, but I’ll probably update this when I do!

Wait for a sale if you can, but this game is definitely worth full price!

It was, quite frankly, boring. Maybe the genre is not for me. Maybe my expectations were too high after DDLC. I got very bored quickly, didn't read dialogues carefully, never really got into the story.

Буду максимально откровенен, получил игру бесплатно, увидел что чертовски простые ачивки + карточки - значит нужно забрать;

Играть не получилось Arcade Spirits (2019) это ЛГБТ игра, а мой уровень толерантности недостаточно высок чтобы не раздражаться при каждом подкате от другого человека той же ориентации; Кортез из Mass Effect 3 (2012) и Зевран из Dragon Age: Origins (2009) познали это жестким путем.

I laughed at the Easter eggs and not-so-subtle nudges at the games of my youth, I cried at the later chapters and the genuine, honest growth seen in the characters. I was biting my nails if my love interest will love me back, and I saw my struggle with mental health portrayed in such an open, relatable way - which doesn't happen often in games.
At the end, when the game says "thanks for playing" I immediately thought [b]"thanks for making this!"[/b] and [b]"How come this isn't more popular!?"[/b]

[i](the ONLY negative thing was the somewhat repetitive music, which sometimes didn't fit the situation a 100%. BUT that is complaining on a very very high level)[/i]

Одна из лучших визуальных новелл. Уютная, ламповая, трогательная, местами пробивающая для слёз, местами пробивающая на ржач: всё в идеальном балансе с упором на ламповость. Очень хорошо раскрыт характер персонажей. Просто бомба.

Ca fait partie de ces jeux dont tu aimes tout les persos , ce qui rends la tâche plus difficile vu que tu aimeras au moins deux-trois persos dans le jeu. De mon coté ça s'est débloqué trés vite et je pense que j'ai personnellement trouvé mon idéal féminin dedans

Arcade Spirits is a visual novel dating sim with all the neon colors and gaming references you'd expect from a game that takes place in an arcade. It's got a bit of a slow start, but I adored this game for its characters, diversity, and realistic depictions of mental illness. The main character is really going through it, and the game doesn't sugarcoat that. The characters all feel well-developed and their romance lines were wholesome while dealing with issues in a believable and mature way. I also loved that there was an aroace option. The art was bright and poppy, though I was disappointed that some character models had more polish than others, as it made it easy to tell which characters were related to the plot in ways that were spoilery. This was a really fun game though with strong and lovable characters, and I hope to check out its sequel soon.

First of all, I love the art style, the character designs are adorable, and I love the options for the player, although limited, I appreciated the options, but they still could have been better for the game's price of $25.99 CAD.
I loved that there was an option where you could just choose to have friendship, that's amazing.

I'm not an artist, so unfortunately I can't speak a lot about the subject, but I like the art style because it's my preference. I really like how this looks visually, it's a simple comment, but that's because I mean it sincerely. It doesn't have to be complicated and worded heavily. I like it. People who say that they don't like it mean that it's just not their taste. Art is subjective. If you don't like the art, it's because YOU don't like it, it doesn't mean it's ♥♥♥♥.

I have a lot to say. Please bear with me. My review is based on the short experience that I have of the game, so don't take my opinion very seriously.
I didn't like the direction this game took, It tried to make you 'unique', it didn't want you to be 'basic' and 'normal', and it felt like they were spitting on you if you were to pick an option of wanting to be just 'okay', instead, you had to be more, you had to be bombastic and different. That put me off.
[spoiler] There was this option where I could have chosen to follow Iris' suggestion for the interview or choose to uninstall her. My friend and I had an enjoyable discussion, about whether choosing either option would lead to meeting different characters/love interests, boy oh boy, guess my surprise when it led to the direction of the player living a life of nine-to-five, I was happy, it looked stable and it was 'normal', and that was fine, at the very least, the player wasn't in a position where they were financially struggling. But the writing made it seem like a bad thing, it made you abandon your dream even though you could have still chased after it. So what if you had a late start? So what if you had to start chasing your dream at a late age? [/spoiler]
Not everybody is a risk-taker, not everybody can take off from an unstable ground and chase their dream. Is it so wrong to want to have a stable footing before chasing your dream? What's wrong with a nine-to-five job? It felt like somebody's self-insert, forcing me to take their direction of life.
Good for you, if you're a risk-taker, but don't push that kind of view and perspective on other people. For something that tries to be so inclusive, you're pretty limiting.

Arcade Spirits surprised me in a good way, and taught me a lesson about not judging a book by its cover.
This game was clearly made with love and a limited budget; the target audience seems to be teenagers and very young adults; I am a bit older than that.

Keeping that in mind, I've truly enjoyed my time at the Funplex. 8/10

I was turned away at first by the art style, which I don't particularly like, and some of the writing (especially in the earlier chapters).

But I decided to give the game a honest chance, and I found it to be a very charming and heartwarming little VN.

The story is a coming-of-age tale with some nice business management elements and plot twists.

It took me about 10 hours to reach an ending, and there seems to be a high degree of replayability thanks to a feature that is unlocked at the end.

Your save game can be imported in the sequel, Arcade Spirits: The New Challengers, which I have yet to try.

I wouldn't pay 20€ for the game (I got it as a gift from a friend), but it's worth a try at a discount.

[b]THE BAD[/b]

The art style and character design is very... reminiscent of a certain old website for troubled teens.
Some characters look better than others, but overall not my cup of tea.

I thought the writing was pretty bad at times, using elementary school jokes ("poopbutt") and some weird reddit lingo ("adulting").
There are some "pander-y" lines here and there that don't go anywhere.

There is very little customization for your character, clearly a money saving feature.
There is very little difference between male and female MC.

[b]THE MEH[/b]

The music is rather fine and catchy. It works rather well for this kind of game. Nothing much to it.

The romance is kind of shoehorned to near the end of the game, in what seems to be a beach filler episode.
Overall it's a very tiny part of the game, not too much in your face and does not influence much.

Some characters, such as the main villain and the neighbours, appear to be very 2D and boring.
Juniper is pretty annoying.

[b]THE GOOD[/b]

Some characters are quite well written, I enjoyed Percy, Francine and Gavin especially.
There is a surprising amount of choices & consequences that carry across chapters. Dialogue will reference a lot of earlier choices.
Some random events from the earlier chapters might have a significant effect on the ending.

The story flows seamlessy and I never noticed any errors. I was quite impressed.

The story itself is quite heartwarming, and the game rewards making some hard decisions.

At the beginning of the game you get an option to tune down or disable romance, which is appreciated.
There is an option to hide some stats, which makes the game flow better.

There is some limited voice acting, which is surprising and welcome.

There is a nice plot twist at one point, which was pretty well executed.
