资源采集比较自动化，更专注单位微操，所以游戏中提供了暂停下指令的功能，并且每个兵都有至少一个主动技能。

难倒是不难，但还挺麻烦的，几乎每关都要求玩家戴着脚镣跳舞，如果还想顺便做成就，那还要戴上手铐。

介绍第一句就是剧情导向。。。纯吹牛，剧情只能说是有。

I don't know when i bought the game but i wanted to give it another try today and I think it is barely playable.

Selecting units is pure horror or maybe I am missing something.
It seems the game does not want me to split fleets and don't let me do selective attack orders.
The list of ships in a sector (upper left corner) is useless except when double clicking. Not switching camera to the selected ships makes single ship selection a lottery especially if there is no indicator where the selected ship is if not in camera view.
Moving damaged ships back while ordering the other ships to attack is frustrating stressed click-fest.
No possibility to define and select groups of ships.
No preferred targets for ship types makes my S fighters attack L ships while my L ships attack S. Again super click-fest when ships are difficult to click on anyways.
Ships sometimes forget chained-orders.
Ships are busy flying in circles instead of stopping at the intended spot making them too busy to fight or to repair other units.

I stopped playing at the third mission or so, in the second sector when I have the possibility to take warehouses for the first time.
I don't know if I missed something in the previous missions but this one is super imbalanced. 4 S and 2-3 L ships completely annihilate my 2 XL, 4 L and some S ships, while being constantly repaired. Maybe it is because of the paper-scissor mechanics but while my S ships to combat enemy S ships are destroyed in seconds or attack L ships, the enemy S ships take ages to be destroyed. Enemy L ships also tank significant more damage than my own ships.
I have boarded an enemy L ship (not sure why this would be a thing as it takes ages and won't le me go above ship limit anyways) and as soon as it is on my side, it is destroyed in seconds while it takes me more time to destroy an enemy L ship than it takes the enemy to seriously damage my XL ship.

Somehow the pace of the game doesn't fit. Everything is slow motion. Moving from one side of a sector (that is small anyways) to the other side of the sector takes minutes.
Each order to take effect takes several seconds
Destroying one my my S ships takes 3 seconds. Building a new S ship takes 15 seconds or so.
Moving my fleet into battle takes several seconds. The battle itself takes also a few seconds. Moving my fleet out of battle takes longer than the battle itself.
Several seconds doesn't sound much but in this time I just watch ships moving in slow motion to pass the few meters to the target location.

My feeling when playing the game is it desperatly tries to cover it flaws and makes things even worse.
The maps are tiny, so there are only a few ships and they move slowly.
Commanding only few ships makes battles simple, so NPC are much stronger and all QoL for commanding are left out to add 'challenge'.

Aside from a few gimmick stealth missions ( not fun ) each mission is a slow push across the map vs endless respawning units. You build up to supply cap push to next objective , rebuild and go next. Sometimes you can't make it to the next objective before all your ships are destroyed so it could take multiple resupplies to take a objective. Your resources unlimited so it comes down to how much time you want to spend per mission , me i gave up about halfway through the game.

The game is a lovely piece of work. The story is enticing and well-written, the voice acting is done with care, and words can not describe just how beautiful the scenery is. I kid you not, if you were to simply purchase Ancient Space just for the ability to take screenshots of the mission areas, you would still be getting your money's worth, and then some. The amount of effort that they put into the artistic direction of the game is utterly breathtaking. I cannot praise it enough. Dare I say? It puts even Stellaris to shame, which is curious, since both are Paradox offerings. Makes me wonder if they took a lot of inspiration from Ancient Space to help make Stellaris what it is, today.

MIND YOU, PLEASE NOTE: The game is NOT free from its flaws. On occasion, there are crashing issues, so save often. Nothing serious, just... The game'll lock up, and even then, I think it's because I am playing it on a larger resolution. And, ah... In terms of difficulty? If there was a scale, ranging from 'Modern Fortnite Garbage' to 'Dark Souls', this game would promptly say 'Screw that noise', and crane-kick the scale apparatus through the ceiling, into the sky, at such velocity as to set the atmosphere on fire.

Seriously. This game is EXTREMELY difficult at times, with no hand-holding. If you do not pay attention? You WILL be losing your fleet very, very quickly. The camera angles can be very jarring at times, so the ability to master the camera controls is a must to have any real sense of strategic awareness. The bonus here, however? The ability to control the camera allows you to have a much more cinematic experience. Much of the background facilities, debris, even the ships, themselves, have very loving little details that you'll need to be within spitting distance to truly appreciate.

I will also point out that there are some parts of the game which seem unfinished, though not exceedingly badly so. For the sake of omitting spoilers, I can't really say much more, but I WILL say that there is a secondary system for seeking out relics and whatnot, that you'll need to pay attention to if you want sufficient background details on the in-universe goings-on, and it'll be a bit of a pain to balance 'Oh dear GOD stop hitting me' with 'Oh! Shiny!'.

IN CONCLUSION: If you are a 'Hurt me plenty' type of computer game sadomasochist with a deep-seated love for exploration, space, the unknown, history, fleet combat, EXCELLENT voice acting/radio chatter, and unspeakably beautiful scenery? And you're able to adapt to a... Difficult... Control scheme and navigation?

I can not recommend this game enough. Has a very 'Homeworld' feel to it. ONLY BRAVE HEARTS WITH AN APPRECIATION FOR INTELLIGENT WRITING, PLEASE. The rest of you will flee in terror after four or five missions. Damn pity, that. Seems, uh... At time of writing? Only about three percent of people who own the game actually beat it.

I can see why people didn't like it but its NOT that bad. Its an fake 3D space game that pretends you can look and fight at every angle because space but really not. Like stellaris, everyone moves in 2.5D but fights in 3D that you can't control.

Because this things like moving the camera up and down or rotating it is worthless since you can stay zoomed out and get the same effect.

Ancient Space is just another space game that wanted to explore the stars but never even explored their moon first.

Crashes back to desktop all the time; anwhere from 20min to 2h. Some missions seem to be completely bugged (like M09, where you cannot target the 2 "armor sections")...

Old point defence style RTS, with a beautiful backdrop. the game comprises of some very nice art work but that appears to be where the budget ended, the story is far from engaging and the mechanics extremely predictable, as for the any tactics required, there is none. just overwhelm each point of capture and move on. thank god games have evolved past this garbage format.

This game really stinks. It's a mix of a mobile game & some kid RTS. The camera and unit movement is terrible. You are just rushing from one point of the map to the other, trying to complete objective before you are overrun. Don't touch.

On va pas se mentir, ce jeu ne casse pas trois pattes a un canard .

Ca n'est pas un mauvais jeu, loin de la, mais ce qu'il apporte en originalité (parce qu'il faut l'admettre il a de bonnes idées) il ne les exploite pas assez ...

Pour prendre un exemple concret : Vous pouvez améliorer votre flotte . Alors sur le papier ça a l'air bien, dans la réalité c'est très très limité, on a 4 modifications définies par type de vaisseau, et on dois les choisir car la place est limité, en fonction de la taille du vaisseau (S,M, L, XL) . Plus c'est petit moins on a d'emplacement .

Il existe aussi un système de "station" pour justifier qu'on ne puisse pas construire n'importe ou n'importe quoi (quelque part c'est assez bien intégrer dans le scénario) . En gros on capture une station, et on construit un support utilitaire ou défensif (comme une station de réparation ou une tourelle légère ou lourde) . Le seul hic que je trouve a ce système, c'est qu'on puisse pas les améliorer . Pourquoi permettre ça sur la flotte mais pas sur les batiments qu'on construit ? Ca m'échappe mais c'est ce qui fait la faiblesse de ce jeu : il n'ont pas assez creuser le gameplay !

En terme de scénario ça va, c'est pas le scénario du siècle ni le plus mauvais, en tout cas j'ai eu l'envie de le suivre donc c'est plutot une réussite .

En revanche les unités ... Alors je dit pas que c'est pas réussit, je dit juste qu'ils sont tombés dans le piège de vouloir faire le jeu tellement équilibré que finalement toutes les entités ont les mêmes vaisseaux avec un design différents (y'a deux factions distincte) et c'est dommage, même si quelques part, c'est logique dans son scénario (les humains étudiant la technologie des aliens) .

Et le plus gros problème, c'est les bugs . Bon ça reste jouable hein, mais de temps en temps ça crash, ça supporte mal les retours windows, on sent que le jeu il a un peu vieillit, et ça fait chier ... Vive les sauvegardes automatiques cela dit .

Il existe un système d'officier qui ont des "pouvoirs" comme renforcer les unités d'un secteur ou affaiblir l'ennemi . On en a tellement pas besoin pour faire le jeu que j'ai du utiliser tout au long de la campagne 3 pouvoir juste pour tester ...

Pour conclure, je le conseille a ceux qui aiment l'espace et les RTS un peu lent (après je jouais pas en difficile faut pas déconner) parce que le jeu permet de mettre pause quand on le souhaite afin de prendre le temps de réfléchir donc on est jamais réellement sous pression, et je le déconseille a ceux qui n'ont pas la patience de subir des crash et qui vont ragequit au premier .

Stuff decades prior was done better. Terrible path-finding ruins the whole experience. I was done when my ship b lined to the wormhole jump gate, and clipped through the structure before jumping to the next sector with 0 fanfare. Just lazy. I'm guessing things only go downhill from there. Not worth trying to deal with when a game made in 2014 cant even be bothered to have scalable ui a necessity for a RTS.

Game crashes
Game flickers (as in, it flickers from open to closed randomly)
Game pathfinding is meh.
Game doesn't explain to you that if you don't collect side-things FIRST that it will forcibly end the mission and you will PERMANENTLY lose out on progression that can make the game easier unless you restart the mission completely, have an old save, or restart the entire campaign.

The base gameplay is honestly neat and fun. It's a solid indie RTS. But the these other issues make the game tough to deal with.

Przez ponad 6h próbowałem znaleźć w tej grze coś co by mi się podobało .... i niestety porażka. Kiepskie sterowanie, kontrola jednostek, straszne modele statków (Dzizas kto je projektował), korytarzowe mapy w kosmosie (!), bugi , beznadziejne AI, nieskończone surowce, możliwość budowania tylko w wyznaczonych miejscach (nawet nie obszarach), chaos. Naprawdę nie warto się męczyć. Pod każdym względem lepiej zagrać w Homeworld z 1998 niż w to badziewie z 2014

Took me a while to get into it, but turned into an decently fun game.

Graphics looks neat for the age (in game, not GUI or menu). Cool little story. I think people expected a lot more of this game than they should. It stands on its own fine. I had a few crashes (less than 5).

There are a lot of units, to be honest I stuck to a few and just barreled through with the same strategy on most campaigns. So it seemed like many were not needed.

The pathing on the units though is really horrendous. You need to not treat this like a RTS game, it is more like a strategy game. There is a pause button for a reason. Use it early and often, and then micro the hell out of your units.

Si te gustan los juegos de estrategia espacial, este te gustara. Esta muy bien.

Los controles varían un poco respecto al resto de juegos del genero, pero una vez te acostumbras funciona perfecto.

La historia cubre todos los aspectos, y esta muy lograda aunque no es estrictamente necesaria para jugarlo es un complemento que se agradece.

Por otro lado la interfaz es sencilla e intuitiva, si bien se hecha en falta una forma de acelerar el tiempo en el juego, en algunos momentos de la partida estas cruzado de brazos esperando que se complete alguna acción sobre todo si quieres pasarte las misiones haciéndolo absolutamente todo.

Muy recomendable si te gusta el genero.

Ah, the irony... They called this game “[b]Ancient Space[/b]” and, well, it does feel... ancient. Seriously, pretty solid visuals aside, this game feels like it was made somewhere in the late nineties. Long story short, what we have here is a [b]Homeworld[/b] clone. With a pretty generic campaign about yet another bunch of “living ships”, skirmishes and stuff like that. The [b]UI[/b] is [i]extremely[/i] uncomfortable, the game is [i]painfully[/i] slow (there's a way to make it faster, but you can only do that through cheats, because yes, this game does include cheats, that's how old school it is), while pathfinding is [i]hell[/i]. Sounds awful, right? But the thing is... it isn't. I mean, modern kids, most likely, [i]would[/i] feel bad about all that, but for old geezers like yours truly? I can't say it'll ruin the fun. Quite the opposite. Even though it wasn't intentional, [b]Ancient Space[/b] ends up feeling like one of those “new old games”. The new games that aims for those who miss the good ol' times. And you know what? If we'll consider [b]Ancient Space[/b] as a project for old school gamers? It's easy to find it surprisingly fine.

Sure, this game is nothing special. You don't want to waste your time on something skippable without its own unique face and nothing special to remember? Feel free to skip it. But if you don't mind a cheap [b]Homeworld[/b] clone? Well, I'd say [b]Ancient Space[/b] is totally worth checking. There's actually quite a lot of good here. For example, you'll be able to level up your units, manage your fleet and crew between missions and so on. And as the result? I really don't want to give this game a thumb down. Hier wurden ein paar coole Konzepte wie das Kämpfen in verschiedenen Sektoren gleichzeitig, das einnehmen von Stationen und das verbessern der Flotte zwischen den Missionen genommen und zu einem guten Strategiespiel zusammengesetzt. Grafik und Sound-design sind nicht überragend aber reichen völlig aus. In die Story wird man etwas abrupt hineingeworfen aber alles in allem ist sie auch gut. Nicht das beste Strategiespiel aber nett für zwischendurch. Für den Vollpreis würd ich es mir nicht kaufen aber im Sale definitiv. Ich habe noch gelesen das viele Leute Probleme mit dem Pathfinding hatten. In meiner Kampagne hatte ich nur an zwei Stellen minimale Probleme also gehe ich davon aus das es gepatched wurde.

I bought this game on sale, and I'm glad that I did. The premise looks good, and for the most part, so do the graphics, at least insofar as ship and terrain textures are concerned. I wish I could say that I've played it and loved it, but I can't say that I've done either of those things because I. CAN. NOT. READ. ANYTHING. The text for the objectives and all other in-game prompts is all but microscopic, and I've found no way to scale it up so that I can actually read what I'm supposed to do. I have a 75" Samsung tv, and no matter what graphics settings I put it on, I cannot read a single word in the UI.

Edit: I managed to figure out how to get the UI to a readable state, but to do so required the graphics to be in Fullscreen with the resolution at 1920x1080, which makes the graphics look fuzzy and low quality. This game would be much better if proper UI scaling was implemented, but I don't see that happening at this stage.

Ancient Space Should be Called Ancient RTS with Lipstick

I have played RTS from early KKND through C&C, Starcraft, Homeworld, and the Supreme Commander series. This game plays like someone took the primative state of RTS back when KKND was new, added more detailed graphics with a space theme to one of the limited 2D engines of the era. The game looks good, but plays like a dinosaur that it is.

The Pros:

[*] Comes with a fairly robust campaign

No guard, patrol, pursue or hunt/explore.

[*] Almost no path finding to deal with obstacles
[*] missions are mostly linear and over scripted
[*] cheats by giving mis-leading hints and objectives
[*] very clunky camera system, no view saves
[*] very limited zoom out, at max zoom you still can't see the entire map.
[*] Tactical view is almost worthless, it is too small on screen and with few if any points of reference
[*] The enemy AI is non-existent. The are a number of ways to cheese them: for example when a enemy capital ship attacks a structure or base, it ignores any of your ships attacking it, so a small flight of fighters can quickly turn it into toast.

None of these cons are game breaking, they just annoy the heck out of me. If you have never played a modern RTS before, it may seem less annoying to you.

I can see where due to it not being totally broken, someone could still enjoy it, just not me. I could barely get myself to get through a couple of missions. Might as well play KKND Extreme

It is not a very fun RTS. The enemy AI is very passive and resource management is a joke and playing the campaign quickly became a chore. There is basically no basebuilding and what is left to do is to decide on the fleet composition and managing the many active skills of your fleet.

There is just not a lot to the gameplay and the presentation doesn't exactly compensate for the shallow gameplay.

I played through the campaign on Easy and I liked it. It's pretty long because combat tends to be pretty slow but I was never bored with it. There is a lot of variety in the missions that kept it interesting. The game includes soundtrack and art work so...bonus! Some of the music was done by Marcin Przybyłowicz (of Witcher 3 fame).

Honnêtement? sublime.
Un jeux de stratégie vraiment sympas, avec un espace de jeux 3D, bien qu'il n'y ais pas beaucoup d'utilité a la verticalité, il y a quand même une limite de distance complétement sphérique, je me suis retrouvé plusieur fois a voirs des vaisseau passer audessus ou dessous de mes tourelles sans pouvoir y faire grand chose... surtout le dernier niveau... mais sa ne vas pas au niveau de genre, BSG deadlock, avec des vaisseaux possédent des armes plus puissante ou uniqument dorsales/ventrales.

Le concept un peut "tower defense" bien que ne faisant pas de sense au niveau du lore, est assez sympas, sa me rappel un peut halo wars dans un sens
La bande son est SUBLIME (je l'écoute d'ailleur en ce moment) les vaisseaux sont assez coul aussi! dommage on ne vois pas de gros vaisseaux pirates....(SPOILER : manque aussi un vrais combat contre un "titan" ou, quelque chose de plus dangereux les ayant effrayer...genre un gros méchant alien plutot que les grands méchant mauvais scientifiques industriel)
L'histoire est génial, et les minis item a collecté ont tous des petites infos assez sympa.
Sa m'a rappellez Void destroyer, que j'ai aussi beaucoup aimé et ai joué il y a un an peut être plus.

Le seul défaut c'est qu'il mérite une suite...mais j'ai pas l'impression qu'on en auras une....

Great for beginning the genre, unpolished for those who are familiar with it.

I'd like to preface this by saying that Ancient Space is Clearly a good game. I would recommend it to others but for myself I don't really see myself playing it more. Allow me to point out the good things that make this game stand out and worthwhile.

- Camera controls are fantastic. Snappy and responsive, it's easy to maneuver where you need to and focus on what you need to.
- Enemy/Ally/Your stuff color system works good. You'll never be confused as to who owns what.
-Environment design. This game really shines in the way environments look. Space games so often suffer from bland empty environments with distant nebulae sky boxes. The designers here really went out of their way to bring structure into environments, with a combination of natural and manufactured megastructures.

Good controls, color scheme, and environmental design.

Now, I'll explain why I simply don't see myself playing this game anymore. I've been spoiled by good game design, so certain tings become more noticeable.

- Ship design is too complicated. silhouettes are seemingly a mishmash of blocks and parts that have no real overall design. Aesthetic design choices between factions are noticeable, but these ship designs suffer from looking like they were made in galactic civilizations custom ship builder, and their form seemingly has little to do with their function.

-Ship design and turret placement are inconsequential, weapon fire seemingly jets from random places. This makes playability smoother, with target acquisition being quick, but it severely takes away from the overall feel of ship to ship combat.

-Further, ship weight is nonexistant. I imagine this is difficult to program. But see in a video or gameplay how dreadnoughts turn so quickly and on a dime? Engines essentially don't feel like they exist, and a capital ship ordered to attack something behind it will whip around immediately.

- Music is good, but is too samey in it's semi-tribal design to homeworld. They should have tried to carve out their own aesthetic.

- Explosions and sound effects are very flat. Very few "pew-pew", gun blasts, or explosions. This was kind of surprising.

- Your enemies make use of 3D space for movement, who you cannot. Kind of a puzzling design choice, not awful but odd at the least.

Overall, I still recommend the game for someone STARTING to get into the space strategy genre. But having played so many games with striking ship designs and weapon hardpoints, I don't think I'll be booting this up again.

I only wish other games could take a design note from the megastructures in Ancient Space.

the tutorial is a shocking mess.
camera controls are designed by a blind person.
general controls are cumbersome (could be a result of the camera).
broken mission completion, having to open the game menu to finish a mission is not a feature (goal: assemble the fleet means open the menu to finish).
crashing after finishing the mission lets hope it saved.
voice acting is rather good.

at present ancient space is not worth the $28.95 price tag they are asking for.

Среди космических RTS я перепробовал довольно много, и тем приятнее было обнаружить совершенно неизвестную дотоле "Ancient Space". Забегая вперёд - заслуженно неизвестную.

Если вы уже играли в какие-то космические стратегии, то, наверное, захотите представлять, на что именно похож игровой процесс. Ancient Space - это маломасштабная тактическая игра, в которой вы управляете небольшой флотилией (грубо говоря, "отрядом") разномастных кораблей, включая группу "героев", потеря которых ведёт к поражению в задании. У каждого корабля есть одна или несколько активируемых способностей, своевременно использовать которые жизненно важно для прохождения: одни временно выводят из строя выбранную цель, другие ставят мины, третьи наводят на своих силовое поле.
Ваш отряд путешествует по маленьким картам, захватывая ключевые точки (да, в космосе), дающие приток ресурсов (часть генерируется кораблём-маткой) и повышающие предел численности.
Корабли, помимо способностей, отличаются классом (small, medium, large, extra large, для строений- base). Спасибо рецензии на IGN, обратившей внимание читателя на то, что огонь каждого типа корабля эффективен против двух или трёх классов и радикально снижается против остальных. Поэтому грамотное назначение целей (есть активная пауза) здесь гораздо выгоднее, чем всем скопом бить одного, особенно если учесть, что размеры вашего флота редко превышают десяток единиц.

В перерывах между сюжетными заданиями можно немножечко улучшить разные типы кораблей, а также проапгрейдить корабль-матку "Улисс 2".

А теперь давайте дадим игре под зад, сосредоточившись на недостатках:

- халтурные сюжетная линия и сценарий, при том что история мира здесь довольно богатая. Игра начинается прямо в разгар какой-то экспедиции, цели которой, кстати, нормально и не объяснят. Мы то ли летим в закрытый сектор, то ли уже в нём (брифинг говорит "надо пролететь Гефестовы Врата, чтобы войти в Зону", а ачивка говорит "Прошли Врата Гефеста и погрузились глубже в Зону").
Совершенно непонятная пиратская активность - у нас вроде бы аномальная Зона, в которую надо перемещаться со значительным трудом (приплели даже Т-клетки зачем-то), но вокруг полно космических бомжей, которым, видимо, на трудности пути наплевать.
Отдельные миссии плохо стыкуются друг с другом - как правило, между ними есть некий сюжетный зазор, и только ближе к финалу события следуют почти друг за другом.
Есть заметные ляпы, вроде того, что офицер, замысливший измену, недоступен перед соответствующей миссией :)
Сценарии отдельных заданий повторяются, вдобавок, мы почти всё время от кого-то бежим. И вопреки сюжету про "экспедицию", только в двух заданиях нам действительно нужно что-то исследовать.
А "Хэппи-энд" заслуживает отдельных слов - это достойный финал этой бессмысленной истории.
Зато можно сканировать разные аномалии и читать в меню их описание, раскрывающее немного LOR (прямо как в Dark Souls)

- совершенно безликие действующие лица. Особенно понравился лидер "кочевников", который вроде и есть в истории, но ни разу не присутствует на экране - мы узнаём только то, что он "распорядился", "согласился", "обеспечил".

- кошмарное озвучивание. А вокруг него ещё рекламную кампанию строили! Хуже в космических стратегиях слышать ещё не доводилось. Если вы играли в Homeworld, то помните, как эфир заполнялся в бою бормотанием пилотов истребителей и бомбардировщиков: "Пш-ш... у меня на хвосте...п-ш-ш... в квадрате семь-один...".
Подобными голосами - тихими, безэмоциональными, неразборчивыми, - здесь говорят герои.

- RTS-lite. С захватом точек и беспощадным дизайном уровней. Обучающий уровень намекает на то, что космос разбит на площадочки с контрольными точками на них. Сюжетная кампания идёт дальше и заталкивает вас в коридоры. "В космосе никто не увидит, как вы летите через коридоры".
Уровень обычно разбит на три-четыре "сектора" - относительно больших "комнаты", - соединённых вратами гиперперехода. Это само по себе паршиво, но разработчики ещё заполняют "комнаты" всякой ерундой, заставляя вас действительно тащиться по своеобразным коридорам между астероидами или стенами космической тюрьмы. Или вообще лететь через пещеры - нате вам открытый космос.
А в "коридорах" в пределах "комнаты" - лужайки. Такие плоские окружности, на которых есть несколько точек для захвата. Взял точку - можешь построить башенку или станцию ремонта, или какой-нибудь "усилитель защиты".
Верфи - для слабаков, ваши корабли построит матка.

- кривой геймдизайн. Хорошо, что у нас есть активируемые способности. Здорово, что "Корсары" могут захватывать вражеские единицы, присоединяя тех к нам (навсегда), да ещё отключая врага на период захвата. Вот только очень плохо, что лимит численности не только мал (здорово ограничивая тактику), но ещё зависит от контрольных точек. Например, вы должны удрать от вражеской орды в одной бесчисленных миссий с бегством. Это и так трудно - враги бесконечно лезут из односторонних порталов, -а вдобавок выходит, что ваш флот всё время сокращается из-за потери контрольных точек.
А как здорово авторы распределили урон по типам кораблей! Логично, что истребители не могут отлупить крейсер или взорвать базу. Но почему дредноут не в состоянии справиться с постройками? Как вышло, что корабль наносит урон большим кораблям, но не наносит сверхбольшим? А наоборот?
В нормальных играх есть разница между вёрткой мелочью и тяжелобронированными мастодонтами - вполне логичная. А вот почему корабль типа Х наносит урон мелким и сверхбольшим кораблям, но не трогает остальные?
И ладно, если бы корабли оснащались несколькими орудиями разного калибра - но нет, плюются одинаковыми ракетами.

В геймдизайне вообще много упущений. Ваш флот перемещается безумно медленно и не умеет держать строй - извольте делить всё на контрольные группы и командовать движение по очереди.
Разновидности кораблей какие-то шальные. Невидимые "Скауты" такие хилые, что полезны только способностью оглушить врага. Невидимые бомбардировщики вообще лишние - они ничем не лучше обычных. "Корсары" не только захватывают на абордаж любого противника, но и просто быстрые, крепкие, мощные - лучше любого другого, кроме корабля поддержки с его бесценными способностями.
Дредноуты выглядят впечатляюще, но на практике являются обычными "средними танками", только с активируемой способностью "мощный залп".
И другие упущения: почему нельзя развивать "Олимп" и "Катерину", ведь они тоже "Герои" ("Олимп" такой хилый, что стыдно делается)?
Почему нельзя улучшить рядовые корабли так, как хочется, а только выбором из крошечного списка?

- плохое бета-тестирование. На сложности выше "нормальной" играть просто невозможно - авторы меняют численность вас и противников, сокращают интервал между "волнами" врагов из порталов и так далее. Разница между первой миссией на "Норме" и на "Сложно" просто разительная - в первом случае ваши корабли легко напинают нападающим по всем местам, во втором вы будете захлёбываться в потопе вражеских кораблей. Кстати, учтите, что произвольно менять выбранную сложность нельзя - я вот перепроходил кампанию заново, увязнув в пятом задании.
Отдельные миссии (№ 4, к примеру, или полёт к останкам через пещеры) невыносимо скучные.
В некоторых случаях сложность искусственно завышена (например, в пятом задании вас очень быстро отправляют ко второму отряду, не дав хоть как-то собрать воедино основной, при этом корабли группы № 2 с ходу имеют самоубийственный приказ лететь через вражеский строй, так что отвлечься от второй группы нельзя).

В общем, паршиво. Из неплохого в игре способность кораблей XL к трансформации, да, пожалуй, увлекательный накал событий в последней трети.

P.S.: если интересно, зачем это я провёл столько времени за такой скверной игрой: во-первых, надеялся, что она станет лучше в следующей миссии... или в следующей... или ещё дальше (не ждите, не станет). Во-вторых, грыз сюжетную кампанию для более взвешенного отзыва.

Ancient Space isn't necessarily a bad game. Some effort went into this and it does a few things well. But RTS is a really hard genre to get right. IMO Company of Heroes 2 and Starcraft 2 are the only good RTS games released In the past 10 years - and both of those had weak expansions. It's difficult to strike the right balance.

[b]Pro[/b]

Ancient Space lets you pause and give orders. I wish every RTS game had this (i don't consider Total War to be RTS). You have a base ship that grows in power with permanent upgrades. You can pick a trio from a group of officers who provide you with their own special abilities. Smaller ships get permanent upgrades too. Some of the ship abilities are nice too. And the game looks pretty nice.

[b]Con[/b]

One of the first things that stood out to me was the narration. It's bad. I was shocked to see it was done by bonafide sci-fi actors. I only heard Dina Meyer for a bit though, maybe it gets better later on.

While the graphics are nice, they really should have fixed terrain obstructing your view. At the very least terrain should become transparant. You definitely don't want to make your player constantly having to rotate the camera to get a proper view. It doesn't help that jumping to a group automatically sets the camera to follow them either.

The tutorial is poorly designed. It pauses the game for no reason, which isn't clear at all. I completed the objectives (move the camera, etc.) but the game seemed stuck. You just have to hit space but since there's no logical reason to pause the game while you're just moving the camera all alone i didn't notice it. Bizarre.

While it's nice they have a decent upgrade system and the selection of officers, the actual implementation is weak. Officers give twice-per-level temporary boosts (like extra damage), which is boring and bland. The upgrades for units are worse, only giving you higher numbers (+1 damage to x type, +1 speed). They could have actually been creative here.

The same goes for unit design in general. Everyone sort of has the same range. And there aren't different damage types, instead there are ship size types and you just have to match those. Seriously, you have a game with space ships, why not have weapons targetting armor, shields, crew, weapons, engines, etc.?

This design also leads to boring combat. You just have to assign ships that hurt type S to enemies of that type. And sometimes you get to use an ability, though exactly how those work is often unclear. What's the growing circle for? Do you click left or right?

Because neither side has bases (you spawn units from your flagship) the game is just you attacking an entrenched enemy, fighting simplistic battles against small groups while rebuilding/repairing in between. It just isn't interesting or exciting. The enemy isn't really a threat, winning seems to be just a matter of time. And it just takes too long. Missions can take an hour or so.

[b]Conclusion[/b]

Slow, unexciting gameplay means Ancient Space never becomes interesting enough to warrant the time it takes to play through it. The developers should have looked at other sci-fi games and media to see how combat in space can be engaging. A better balance between attacking and defending would have helped a lot too.

TLDR: Instance based blitzkrieg RTS where you command squads of ships. Unwieldy, dated, bad AI and pathfinding. Outcompeted.

The concept existed since Oregon's trail. You go from point to point, make decisions, try to conserve ressources move forward. This only has 15 solo missions in which you must micromanage the composition and behavior of starships in hostile encounters.

There has been quite a few games made in the same genre. Everyone compares this to Homeworld, probably because it borrows some of the control schemes and conventions of the space RTS, but I believe there are even closer superior examples of this in Gothic Armada or Galactica.

This is a genre that benefits greatly from advancements in UI, stronger more solid engines. Space is meant to be breathtaking and with a great deal of freedom and Ancient Space does not really make the cut.

This game is so cool, and has so much potential. I personally couldn't get around the movement, which is so hard in a 3D space. They didn't nail it, but every other aspect of this game is legit. Because you have to move around to play this game, they need to fix it before I could ever recommend it!

неудобное управление, паузы как таковой нет (всяко менял назначение клавиш) и в результате вообще не можешь разобраться с интерфейсом, предназначением кораблей, а часики тикают и надо срочно отбиваться..
в общем, лучше переиграть в проверенные космостратежки, чем в это
жаль, что поздно начал с ней разбираться и деньги уже не вернуть

I wish I could say I like this game. I thought I would - the overall concept for the story is great and graphics are pretty good. Gameplay is stale and the pathing for the AI is absolutely horrendous, the story was flat and while it was a great premise, it has terrible execution.

Purchased on sale, and I have a hard time saying I didn't pay too much.

It's pretty, but most games are nowadays. It's got a few good ideas, but nothing another game like Homeworld, Dawn of War, or even O.R.B. hasn't already done better.

It's got decent voice acting, but I have to chuckle even then at points. Dwight Shultz's character does -not- sound calm and soothing.

The controls are clunky and imprecise, which, in an RTS, is sort of unforgivable. Even if you do target the enemy ship you wanted, there's no way to easily tell how far away it is, so you will often send your ships far off into the depths of enemy territory without meaning to. Enemy ships move in from off camera, and the panning rate is so unstable sometimes you feel like you've gotten whiplash from it, then you can't find your fleet again.

You have a limited number of ships at once, but the enemy does not. It can just keep throwing more and more and more at you, while you have to wait for replacement ships and fighters... and their ships are just as good as yours, so you have to outnumber them to beat them. If you understand basic logistics and math, this means you have no choice but to gang up on one group of ships, hoping you defeat them in time to make a mad dash for the next group before some mission critical ship gets blown up or escapes.

It's like the developers took a decent game and decided it wasn't hard enough. So they added in multiple problems that are completely outside player control to "spice things up"

Po pierwszych 4h miałem ochotę usunąć tą grę. Niewiedzieć czemu jakimś cudem mnie wciągneła, być może dla tego, że zdołałem się przyzwyczaić do mankamentów tej gry. Jeśli to się komś uda i jest fanem Homeworld, to będzie miał rozrywkę na parę fajnych godzin. Bo wyobraź sobie jaki kolwiek element gry, który można ocenić, jak sterowanie, AI, grafika, gameplay. Z każdym z tych elementów będzie coś nie tak. Niektóre będą na bardzo słabym poziomie, a niektóre wręcz będą cie wkurzać - to jest Ancient Space. Klon Homeworld'a, gra bardzo odtwórcza, gra przeciętna. Tylko dla fanów Homeworld'a, inaczej możesz sobie zszargać nerwy.

Uhm, seems like it may be a decent game if the playing area wasn't so cluttered with crap and the colors of your units you can control were contrasted to ALL other units. Also the tutorial is pretty much trash and the very first mission you have no real idea what you're to do.

It needs some work on the interface to help in this regard. Can't remember how much I paid for it but I hope not a lot.

A hybrid between Homeworld and tower defense. Thoroughly enjoyable despite its flaws. Most of the maps let you clear the board once you figure out the right way to approach the puzzle.

- The ship battle mechanics are indeed simpler than other games. Expect to handhold some of the pathing, and checking that auto-selected targets are effective against that armor type.
- Always look for glowing yellow balls to scan. This is what persists mission to mission, giving you upgrades.
- Does function with Windows 10, despite other comments.
- Controls are a little odd if you are used to Homeworld etc. Takes some getting used to.
- It does not work well with Windows DPI scaling. If you see 'text for ants', set Windows to 100% scaling.
- It will crash every ~6 hours or so. Save occasionally.
- 'Crystal Ocean' will take you many tries.

the game was medicore okay, not awesome or anything. mostly due to the usual make/barely support and drop of most of paradox's non-super DLC games.

But changing to negative now, as with all their games : Paradox raised the prices of all their games to make extra profit during summer sale. Please do not buy this game if you respect your hard work and money. Also, their DLC policies is worsening at every release. Giving little to irrevelant content, and asking for a high price. (That's even higher now, despite everyone complaining about their pricing, which was already bad back in the day.)

So I suggest anyone else to NOT fall in their pathetic policies, and AVOID at all costs any of their games.

It's a wonderful little unknown title. Created by the same devs that did Hard West. It's full of magnificent effects, ships and story driven scenarios. It's not perfect but it is REALLY GOOD. If you've been wanting to scratch that Homeworld itch it's about the closest you'll get to that right now. I honestly hope these guys/ladies create a sequel and learn what was wrong with the first game and improve upon it. It could really be a special space, sci-fi RTS in a field that is HIGHLY lacking in new and good games.

Oh, and make a sequel to HARD WEST!!! That game rocks!

Ancient Space is a something, that could be called "2.5D close quarters space strategy". Maps are split into sectors linked by warp gates and sectors are again split into multiple, well, for a lack of a better word, areas. It is possible to build structures only in those areas and only at limited locations (typically 2-3 per area, less or more possible). You tend to adopt a "attack and build strategy", attacking the next area, building up its defences (structures also help to extend your population cap). This gives the game a relatively leasurely pace, where you usually have time to plan on you next move. Add active pause and you get the deal. This is general flow broken up by some timed missions, where rushing past an area is important. In general, building is only ever to support your fleet. Your carrier(s) are the actual center of the game.

If you are into such games, you will like Ancient Space.

Your ships have special abilities with a cooldown and using them at the right point (note again: active pause) against the right parts of the enemy armada is quite important.

Pro:
- closed quarter strategy
- takes a more slow approach (minus those missions when it doesn't), but there are still pitched battles.
- graphics are decent, the space backdrops and missions are nice.

Cons:
- The multi-sector approach takes getting used to, especially on those missions where your fleet needs to be split between sectors.
- The micromanagement is limited to use of abilties. The rest is more or less melee-range fleet battle, i.e. a mess.
- Would you be able to zoom in, you would miss details on the ships. But you cannot zoom in that far.
- Fleet customization is limited. The fleet upgrades DO have an effect, but they don't necessarily feel immediately effective.
- The space battles feel a little lackluster.

Still, I'd like to see more from this universe, possibly with more customization options, a more extensive campaign with more backstore and exploration.
