Игра с самого начала показалась интересной, однако по мере прохождения сюжета мое мнение о Боевом шпиле снижалось в геометрической прогрессии.
Концепция игры очень две неплохая, сам спин офф очень многое вносит в лор свитков, вот только техническая реализация этой игры это просто какой-то кусок каловой массы.
Геймплей состоит из 7 уровней со своим уникальным левелдизайном, головоломками, боссфайтами. На каждом уровне, помимо основного прохождения, можно наткнуться на доп квесты. И вот пройдя 3-4 уровня вы начнете замечать, как игра начнет неимоверно лагать, гг будет застревать в текстурах (из-за этого приходится загружать сейвы, и остается только молиться, что ближайшее сохранение было сделано не в начале уровня), проваливаться под карту и т.д. В моем прохождении на последних уровнях просто пропал кусок карты, и если бы не зелья медленного падения, баффнутого прыжка и бега, то весь уровень пришлось бы начинать сначала и не было бы никакой гарантии, что это не повториться снова.
Даже если фанат серии, стоит несколько раз подумать, прежде чем играть в это творение Лавкрафта.
It seems that Bethesda took inspiration from the Ultima: Underworld series, which I can respect. However I can only recommend this to hardcore Elder Scrolls fans only because this game is absolutely brutal and will punish you if you create an insufficient character at the start of the game. The voice acting is cheesy but I can't knock on it too much because it was a product of its time. I personally would advise getting this on a sale because paying full price seems a bit much for this game.

В игре нет возможности отдохнуть, починиться, когда нужно, продать или купить снаряжение, стрелы, хилки. Нельзя в любой момент прокачаться, только между уровнями. Ничего непонятно, нигде нет объяснений как играть или что делать.
Уровни сделаны однотипно запутанными с одинаковыми заданиями найти 3-6 разбросанных по уровню вещей. Игра несбалансированная, забагованная и вылетает, в общем, худшая из всех Свитков, воистину адский опыт. Как играть в подземелья Даггерфола без всего остального. 1,5/5,0
Actually one of the most baffling and hot garbage experiences I've had in a long time. 10/10 would get jump scared by full frontal nudity on stream again.
I tried it full screen and it didn't work. Finally tried it in windowed mode and it worked and then I got killed immediately 3 times so I turned it off. Also controls are weird, but that's just 90's computer games for ya.
I fear this game made me feel things I do not want to feel again.

Battlespire is a rough around the edges gem for the Elder Scrolls Series, It's a smaller in scope dungeon crawler as compared to Arena or Daggerfall but it "Just Works", The smaller scope really helps it focus on one thing; The Daedra and the Daedric Planes of Oblivion (Although most are actually pocket realms)
This is without a doubt the hardest Elder Scrolls Game for me personally likely a skill issue on my part but the controls don't help, The combat is clunky at best and absolutely punishing at worst, You can and likely will soft lock yourself in some level due to entering a level unprepared, Fun for Elder Scrolls Lore Fiends probably awful for everyone else.

Battlespire takes TES in a new direction and expands/creates a lot of the Daedra lore. Its really held back by its age and bugs. The game really doesn't "know" where the player is, so you'll constantly be walking at an angle and getting stuck in walls (never found a fix). Jumping is a coinflip between landing and sticking. But if you've played the first 2 the mechanics carry over. I enjoyed it for the story not so much the gameplay. If you want to try it, mess with the cycles and find something that's smooth.

С огромным скрипом пока что добралась только до 5 уровня. Жутко багованный шедевр, 10 передразниваний вермаев из 10 натравлений даэр друг на друга. Любая другая часть свитков не сможет похвастаться таким нереальным уровнем хохотача в диалогах. Лучше конечно проходить эту игру на ютубе, но и самой бить тапком пауков и кулаком соблазнителей вполне интересно.

Прошла я этот вас баттлспайр. После первого графа даэдра ситуации критически меняется в сторону героя, даэдрическими шмотками сыплют с горкой, и уже те же темные соблазнители воспринимаются как ничтожества, единственное, на последнем уровне все время скидывали в лаву, подгорело.
Последний диалог с Мерунесом Дагоном это что-то с чем то, я надорвала живот от смеха, так троллить бедного несчастного даэдрического принца, которому помешали с очередным вторжением... Обливион куд невер.
В общем игра классная, надеюсь когда-нибудь про нее вспомнят и сделают ремастер.
Got it from the bundle that had borth Skyrim and Oblivion and I now have it in my collection which is fine, but no idea of how the game is. Buy it if you want to have it there. No achievements to be done.
Bethesda attempt at dipping their toes in the Doom and Quake market, using Tamriel setting and expanding the lore. Born as a Daggerfall expansion, it became a stand-alone game that had an interesting idea behind it, but suffers from a terrible technical state and a clearly rushed development. Some interesting NPCs, good voice acting (considering the times) and a fine soundtrack. Sadly, the severe bugs and some design choices (like the lack of resources, the game restarting everytime you die, the item degradation, etc.) drag everything down.
This game is pretty good.
I liked this spin-off. It would have been difficult for me if I had come from playing Skyrim. But coming from Arena to this, I can see how The elder scrolls franchise evolved.

This Game was fun for a while, expands on Elder Scrolls lore and has puzzles to solve that require some thought, the answer can always be found as long as you read notes and listen to the NPCs.
However I must give this games a thumbs down as their are game breaking bugs such as saves becoming corrupt and poor game design choices that could have been rectified with some more thought.
The combat can be overly punishing sometimes which is only made worse by the fact that each hit is essentially a dice roll based on your stats and gear. It makes difficult enemies feel difficult just for the sake of it rather than a fun obstacle to overcome.
Platforming is very difficult with the jump mechanic and the chance of being knocked away mid jump by an enemy attack.
Not choosing some skills during character creation locks you out of being able to use some items, for example my character cannot use bows, which would have been useful for some parts of the game, in other words you can make your playthrough very hard by choosing the wrongs skills.
This that should be simple like traversing an elevator and casting a spell are just a pain because of the game design. It just becomes a chore to play rather than a fun experience.
I really wanted to finish this game but at this time I don't see how with my save issue.

After adjusting config settings, I was able to work around the save problem and continue playing to the end. Overall a cool adventure and has something for big time Elder Scrolls fans, but I stand by the painfully difficult nature of the games mechanics, also this DosBox version of the game has instability and will crash from time to time. For these reasons I would not recommend to others, a pity, just a few revisions would make the game more enjoyable. When I wasn't having silly issues it was fun.
If you're on a completionist run through the Elder Scrolls games, then by all means go for it. But be prepared for clunky combat, at times extremely frustrating due to knockback effects (ESPECIALLY on the last lvl), and a buggy mess (beware of the lvl 5 glitch that might brick your save). Oh and getting flashbanged when the enemies start spamming spells. Bugs aside I'm surprised so many things that are a huge detriment to the game went through.
It's a shame because on paper it has some interesting idea; linear experience, lvl up when completing a game level, character creation, and it's a lot easier navigating the dungeons compared to, for example, Daggerfall. This could easily lead to good replayability, but ain't no way I'm doing a second playthrough.
Oh but, the dialogue is actually hilarious at times, and also offers great pieces of lore, especially in terms of the Daedra and their ways. Credit where credit is due.
But in any case, unless you're looking to complete all TES games, stay away.

A short linear adventure (short compared to the typical Elder Scrolls game). This one took me some time to get used to because it doesn't have the typical elements like vendors, and so all the supplies you have are the ones you can find in chests or from the enemies you defeat. This is what I was partly worried about too - that I'd struggle with finding enough items - however as long as you try to explore you'll be fine. That being said, I feel like Battlespire was meant to try implementing new things. The art looked nice, and I liked how the conversations worked. What was more impressive was that, as far as I know, this is the first time you can operate an actual vehicle in the Elder Scrolls universe, and not only that, but in a certain level you can operate a flying one, which felt impressive, considering the age of the game. It was also running semi-okay. With a few small fixes, it ran full-screen and modern resolution with minimal crashes (maybe one every 4 hours), however there are FPS issues. For the most part they're not problematic while you're indoors, but during the few outdoor segments, it can be a real bother.

Einfach schön zu sehen das Steam solch alte Games wieder aufleben lässt es gibt so viele Alte Spiele die man heut von damals gern noch einmal wieder spielen und besitzen möchte.
Ich fand es einfach nur Klasse das man mit dem spiel als es bei Steam heraus gekommen ist seine Sammlung von An Elder Scrolls erweitern kann und sie immer mehr vervollständigen kann. Die Grafik ist zwar alt und es läuft schön flüssig von der Hand das Spiel das ich sagen muss das es mir erneut wieder einmal richtig Spaß gemacht hat das Spiel zu kaufen und es zu Zocken!

The Elder Scrolls: Battlespire is one of those games where you can clearly see an identity beginning to crystallize… while at the same time the execution painfully falls apart.
From a lore perspective, this is where The Elder Scrolls starts to feel less like generic fantasy and more like its own distinct universe. The Daedric politics, the tensions between clans, the metaphysical undertones, and even the concept of the Battlespire itself as an Imperial battlemage academy suspended between realms all show a stronger, clearer identity. Exploring the Battlespire as a location is genuinely interesting. There is real TES flavor here, more defined than in Arena and more focused than in Daggerfall in certain aspects.
On paper, it sounds fantastic. A tighter, lore-heavy experience centered around Daedric realms and diplomacy systems. In practice... it is a struggle.
The controls are bad. Not just dated. Bad. Even by Daggerfall standards, which is ironic considering Battlespire originally began as a Daggerfall expansion. Movement, especially jumping, feels unreliable, combat is awkward, and several mechanics simply do not function properly. Some abilities and perks are partially broken or do not work at all.
Technical issues make things worse. If you emulate it in MS-DOS on modern hardware, which is most likely the case, CPU cycles are automatically set too high, and for some reason that causes character movement to literally break. The game becomes uncontrollable. So you are forced to lower and lock the CPU cycles, which in turn drops performance to around 10 to 25 frames per second. You end up choosing between broken controls or sluggish gameplay.
Crashes are frequent. Stability is questionable. There are fixes that can reduce some of the crashes, but they do not eliminate them entirely. The infamous save corruption bug on level 5 can permanently destroy your progress by overloading the save file with trash data.
And then there is something even more exhausting: every time you die, the game drops you straight back to DOS. Not to a menu. Not to a reload screen. To DOS. You must relaunch the game manually every single time. That is not an emulator quirk, that is how the game was designed. It is part of the original experience.
The result? A disorienting cycle of getting lost in maze-like levels, unsure of objectives, dying repeatedly, relaunching the game, and slowly losing patience. It becomes less about immersion and more about endurance.
And that is the tragedy. Because beneath the technical failures, there are genuinely good ideas. The Daedric diplomacy system. The focused narrative. The stronger TES identity. The Battlespire as a concept. With a proper modern remaster in Unity, similar to Daggerfall Unity or the community efforts for Arena and Redguard, this game could be something very different.
Now here is the real problem: Arena and Daggerfall can feel dated in some aspects, but they are both free. Battlespire costs 6 bucks on Steam. Charging money for a game in this state, with broken systems, frequent crashes, and design decisions that feel punishing beyond reason, makes it impossible to recommend. If it were free, I would probably give it a 5 out of goodwill for its lore and historical value. But at that price, I genuinely cannot advise anyone to spend money on something this unstable, at least until some of its biggest issues are resolved.
Battlespire is not entirely devoid of merit. There are sparks of creativity buried inside it. But as it stands today, it is the weakest entry in the saga by a wide margin, crippled by technical flaws that overshadow its interesting ideas.
Score: 4.5/10 – Interesting lore, fascinating concept, deeply flawed execution. As a historical curiosity, maybe. As a paid product, impossible to recommend.
I hear a lot of people call this the worst Elder Scrolls game, but honestly, I enjoyed it more than Arena and a bit more than Daggerfall. The dungeons, while still chock full of unhelpfully unmarked collectibles you have to find, are refreshingly not absolutely labyrinthian like the last couple of entries. Plus it has the quippiest protagonist in the entire series, which I found very entertaining.

TL:DR -> a relic of the past with flaws that are not entirely on the game. IF bethesda remade this today it would sell decently. not best seller or anything but would easily recoop the production costs.
I had this game as a young child i believe on a windows XP computer, maybe a windows 2000 so i have some fond memories of this game off a iirc floppy drive.
However, with nostalgia comes admitting when something is defunct and passed its date and thats where Battlespire currently is. This game, much like Redguard, was made for a specific ddos graphics card. A voodoo series.
Well, it did a lot of stuff that when we left ddos didn't get brought over. This causes major issues for Redguard and Battlespire. Especially since pre 2000 bethesda was ALL IN on DDOS having 0 faith in a starting up company called Windows.
I would love to get this game again and replay it on original hardware. IF i do I'll leave a review talking about the differences. but, unless you own THAT SPECIFIC computer buy this only as a relic.

- CAN DESTROY YOUR COMPUTER
-> The elephant in the room with THIS GAME!!!! Because DDOSbox limits to 1-2 cores ONLY off your CPU massive DDOSgames can burn out a core. Battlespire in my troubleshooting and research made my cpu hit critical temps. I have a Ryzen5 6 or 8 core. So middle of the pack. This is a flaw on DDOSBOX.

-> With this game in particular, in my research it seems that as you play the game. Saving and loading especially. The game's save slowly gets corrupted until after so many saves... the file is kapuut. As far as i can find this is from a DDOSbox leak but no clue how to fix.

In my quest to play through all the Elder Scrolls games, I knew I would come across this game too. That and the other unpopular game... Now that I've played through it too, I can see why it wasn't a great success.
Let's wrap this up, the game actually adds value to the lore and world of Elder Scrolls. It goes into great detail about the Deada and their clans and deepens their history in the world of Nirn and beyond. Without these approaches in Battlespire, there would certainly be no TES IV: Oblivion. And the game goes deeper into their philosophies and customs than Oblivion ever did. After all, in Oblivion you rarely have the opportunity to interact with Daedra, at least not with the footfolk. Here, every enemy is also an NPC with fully voiced dialog. But more on that later.
Briefly about the gameplay: Unlike in the main Elder Scrolls games, you are not in an open world with numerous quests and adventures, but are trapped, so to speak, in a training center for battle mages and want to get back to Tamriel, preferably with your friend, who always provides you with small letters and supplies while you roam through the fortress. In short, this means that you are somewhere in an interior the whole time, but exceptions prove the rule, so that you are sometimes outside of Battlespire but still somewhere in the void which the game places. However, the structure of the levels is peppered with puzzles from time to time. In order to enter the next level, you often have to collect keys, capture them from enemies or use diplomacy to obtain these items. Familiar pieces of equipment such as the Savior's Hide or the Spear of Bitter Mercy can be collected and play a major role in the story. Every level have a different theme and different objectives. In my opinion, there is no lack of variety in the game.
But what's so bad about the game? Well, you could say that because it's old, it's less comfortable to play today. But I play a lot of old games, including Arena and Daggerfall, and I had less trouble with these two games. First of all, the game is packed with a DOSBOX emulator. In other words, for me it's a bit absurd to offer a third-party technology and sell the game as if it were your own achievement to get the game running on a modern system. It's just an easy cashgrab, because you don't have to put in much effort. In addition, Linux users then have the ass card, because they have to go through a lot of trouble to get the game to run. But that's just an aside and not the real reason why I wouldn't recommend the game.
Battlespire is in a technically desolate state. Even the included latest patch doesn't help to fix the numerous bugs. These include some small but also fatal bugs that can ruin your progress if you don't attach much importance to backup saves. For example, there are some places where you can lock yourself in without being able to get out legally. In level 6 in Imago's Keep, if you send the elevator back down without going down yourself, you will get stuck forever. The same applies if you try to get into the fortress without opening the gate first. This can still be avoided, but the most servere issue at level 5 is a fatal memory bug that creates a lot of data every time the character dies and the game is reloaded, causing the savegame to become larger and eventually “unreadable”. And when this happens, you can only hope that you still have uncorrupted saves. If you don't know this, however, it's sometimes too late to notice, as you're certainly not watching in the background all the time to see how big the savegames are getting.
What's more, some of the levels have platforming passages, and more frequently later on. The jumping mechanic in this game is partly a dice roll, which also depends on the “Jumping” skill. When you start a jump, you have to hold down the button and a pointer appears, which roughly determines the landing position after the jump. However, it is a coincidence that this point is actually hit. So it can happen that the character simply jumps sideways forwards and if the target is a small platform, then you jump straight past it into your death. In addition, every jump to an edge causes the character to get stuck. Most of the time you can't get away from it, so you have to reload. It's practically mandatory to save before every jump. A particularly annoying feature of the game is the fact that enemies can knock you away, whether through physical or magical attacks. In this case, it can happen that you are knocked back meters, sometimes even down chasms. Level 7 was also disastrous in this respect, because the level consists of small flying islands connected by bridges and there was a lake of lava underneath the islands. Constant reloading and making sure the enemies didn't knock you off the platform was the main concern here.
I could also talk about the balancing and that the skills or attributes have different effects on the game and that you determine your difficulty by how you create your character, but this is not a typical problem of Battlespire, but of almost all Elder Scrolls games.
My last point concerns the dialog and the ability to talk to enemies. It's a great idea, no question and sometimes it's necessary to get tips on how to progress, but in reality I don't think it helps. Of course, if you're open to dialog, you get a bit more lore, but most enemies of the same type talk the same stuff and you don't have any more options than to ask them not to attack you or to fight for you. And looking for those who might have something interesting to say is a pain, because you don't want to go through hundret dialog windows just to find the one that tells you something different. Unfortunately, there is no button to cancel the dialog immediately. That would be a big help.
Even though the game takes an interesting approach and contributes a lot to the lore, it was just a lot of work for me to finish the game. I can only recommend it to hardcore fans for whom the story is important enough to subject themselves to such suffering.

So recently I decided to finally check out the Elder Scroll games, and went into Battlespire completely blind. It's a great game if you're looking for a unforgiving, old school dungeon crawler and can put up with a little jank
-Brutal but fair gameplay
-Stellar level design
-Cool setting
-Incredible horror atmosphere
-Moody OST full of dread
-Great story and lore that focuses on the Daedra
-Visuals reminiscent of old Sega Saturn 3D dungeon crawlers (I personally love the Saturns 3D aesthetic)
My playthrough was relatively bug free. Only major bugs I encountered was occasionally getting stuck in the geometry after jumping. Can't recommend this game enough

A weird but interesting spin on Elder Scrolls. It ditches the open world for a more linear dungeon crawling experience and it definitely shows its age.
This game is cool in that it allows you to converse with your enemies, all fully voiced! I unfortunately had trouble with all other facets of gameplay, as the game is old and therefor, opaque in that matter. Still worth trying in my opinion!

今回はオープンワールドではなくステージクリア型のダンジョン探索アクションRPGになっています。
オープンワールドではなくなったことで、逆にゲームがシンプルになり個人的にはdaggerfallより全然面白いと思いました。
相変わらずステータスやシステムは難解で、攻略wikiは必須。
しかもdaggerfallほど有名ではないので、確立された攻略法がないのも欠点です。
とりあえず僕がクリアに使った知識を書いておきます。
・レベルはステージクリア毎に1ずつ上がるのみ。最終レベルは8
・ステージクリア時に、ステータスとスキルにポイントを割り振っていく
・スキルは、使えば使うほど育つが、対応するステータスの値までしか上がらないので、ステータスを優先してポイントを振っていく
[b]・装備するとスキルが上がる装備をつけていると、レベルアップ時にそのスキルのポイントを減らすことが出来る（バグ）[/b]
・さらにそのポイントを他のステータスやスキルに割り振ることが出来る
・ステルスモードにして水の中に浮かんでいると、放置しているだけでswimmingとstealthが勝手に上がっていく
・なので、swimmingとstealthをスキル上げしておいて、クリア時にそのポイントを-10くらいまで下げて他のステータスに割り振るのが定石
クリア時のキャラはこのようでした
・Woundは最初からMAXにしておく（体力に関わる）
・全ての武器をdisadvantageで使用禁止にし、hand-to-handだけで素手で戦う
・INTx3と呪文吸収をつけて、cure healthを覚えておく
・Rapid Healingをつける
・全ての属性を致命的な弱点として作成（あまりデメリットがないらしい）
これでクリア出来ました。
でも謎解きが難解すぎるし、すぐ地面に挟まって動けなくなるし、バグで進行不能になったりするし、方角によって歩行速度や方向が勝手に変わったりまともに歩くことすら出来ない、ととにかく遊びづらいのでおすすめしません。

[b] Overview: [/b] In Battlespire you are trapped in a series of dungeons and have to rely on items found in these dungeons to survive; there is no currency or merchants or any way to travel out of these dungeons until you beat the objective in each one. Potions and other supplies are limited, so if you use potions for every enemy encounter you can make it incredibly difficult or even impossible to progress. There are 7 levels total, and in each one you can find crystals that restore both health and mana. You will spend a considerable amount of time throughout your playthrough going back and forth to these crystals to heal. These crystals are unlimited use fortunately, and growing impatient and using healing potions instead of these crystals will make the later dungeons a nightmare.
There are scrolls found in different parts of each level that give you information, and reading these is essential to have an idea of what you need to do to progress. For example some enemies might be invincible, and the only way to know this is by reading a scroll found on the ground near the start of the level. Other mechanics are not explained and you have to discover them by interacting with every object in an area. Some trees or pillars can be pushed over, and I do not believe this was ever told to the player. A bunch of other mechanics are not told to you as well. Sigil signs can make you ethereal for a short time (maybe 10 seconds). When ethereal, you take no damage but also cannot damage enemies. These sigils are in every level and can be obtained from killing an enemy. Not all sigil signs are equal however, some are signs of entry. These signs of entry look identical to other sigil signs, but the name of the item when viewed in the inventory is different. These entry sigils are essential to progress through different levels. The are usually found on harder to kill enemies, but this is not always the case.
[b] Technical Issues: [/b] The game is also incredibly buggy. You can get stuck on walls, floors, or ceilings if you jump into them at a weird angle. As far as I know there is no way to resolve this except for reloading an earlier save file. Sometimes a potion of etherealness or sigil sign can be used to get unstuck. You can also clip through walls very easily and go out of bounds when swimming into a wall or corner, and this will also force a reload. There are also frequent crashes that can be remedied by guides, although I could not completely fix them. There are rumors that gog (galaxy of games) has a more stable version of Battlespire to play since they have been working hard to preserve and fix older games. The game runs on a DOSBox emulator similar to Elder Scrolls arena.
The controls are also whacky by modern standards, but they can be remapped easily from the options menu. You are looking at around 24 hours to beat this game if not using a guide.
[b] Tips for new players: [/b]
1. There are two ways to attack. You can move your mouse to swing your weapon normally or you can hold down the "Use special attack" button and swing your weapon. You will want to use the special attack button because this will prevent the camera from swinging all over the place when using your weapon.
2. Some controls will not work when bound to certain keys. For example, I remapped the Sneak mode key to ctrl, but it would not work until I remapped it to H. Keep this in mind if you plan on remapping the controls.
3. You will find different armor and weapons with different stats throughout the game. I had a better time using armor with a better armor rating instead of choosing an armor for its magical properties. You can keep magical armor or weapons in your inventory, but I would not equip them. For example I had a staff of teleport with horrible stats, but I was able to use without equipping it. This saved a lot of time. You can also save a LOT of potions if you hold on to magical items that restore mana or health.
4. Magical weapons and armor do not give you buffs unless you activate them. To activate them go to your inventory and double click on the item. However, once activated, the clock is ticking; the buffs can and will run out while you are still browsing your inventory, so activate them and immediately leave your inventory. You will also need to learn what each enchantment does. There are some scrolls found in different levels that will tell you these things, but if you miss these scrolls you will have to look it up online.
5. You don't have to fight every enemy you see. I had an incredibly difficult time in level two. If I had used the sigil signs to get ethereal, I could have just ran past/through many of these mobs that kept beating me.
6. Always have backup saves at the beginning of each level, and save frequently. On level five "The Chimera of Desolation", I have heard that saving too many times could result in a game ending softlock, so be aware of that. I saved frequently on that level and did not experience any issues.
7. Always use healing crystals once you find them, even if this means walking all the way across the level to heal up again. Otherwise you can run out of potions and then your game is over.
8. Always keep a bow and arrows. These are the reason I didn't rage quit on several levels. Also don't make the mistake of dropping a good bow for a crossbow. Always use the weapon with the highest stated damage. For some reason I thought the crossbow would be better and inconvenienced myself. Also take any arrows you find even if you have to drop something.
9. If you ever find an empty chest click on the chest and look at its name. If it says "Coffer of Restoration" Then you will want to place an item that is damaged in it. It will repair it back to 100% condition. This works for magical items too. There should be one or more of these in each level.
10. Toward the end of the 6th level, "The Havoc Wellhead", I would grab as many arrows as possible even if you have to ditch some stuff. There are tons of arrows on this level, more than in any other level in the game. Once you leave the 6th level I would equip your bow and use it to kill everything in your path without unequipping it. About halfway through the 7th level I was unable to reequip my bow and this made the game incredibly tedious. The final level isn't too long and with 150 or so arrows you can bulldoze your way to the end of the level fairly easily. I'm not sure if this was a glitch or not (because of plot related devices) but I would not risk it, and you won't be needing your arrows anyways. In any case, if you have a fresh save at the beginning of level 7 you will be fine.
This game from 1997 is definitely a different take on the Elder Scrolls series. Instead of a sprawling open world, you get a more focused, dungeon-crawling experience with a heavy emphasis on combat and puzzles. The atmosphere is pretty great, and it’s clear they wanted to experiment with a more linear approach. That said, the gameplay feels dated, and the clunky mechanics can make it frustrating at times. It’s an interesting piece of Elder Scrolls history, but unless you’re really into retro RPGs or want to explore every corner of the series’ past, it might be hard to truly enjoy. A modern remake or fan update would definitely help bring out its potential.
The game does work - kind of. Follow a guide and you CAN beat it, though, not without multiple crashes and getting stuck in geometry, causing you to reload your last save. Also, apparently, there's a game breaking bug on Level 5 that makes your game corrupted if you save and drop to dos too many times during that level. So, yeah, use a guide if you wanna play this crap.

Гра представляє з себе ту ж саму Elder Scrolls, але з "обмеженим функціоналом", тобто в грі ви можете так само створити собі персонажа, обирати клас, расу, та навіть додалася окрема механіка, яка дозволяє за рахунок обмеження певних навичок покращити інші, наприклад ви можете зробити свого персонажа дуже вразливим до заклинань холоду і в той же час бути невразливим до вогню, або заборонити персонажу використовувати луки, кинджали, щоб отримати більше навичок для прокачування (якщо погратися з цією механікою, то можна отримати цікаве проходження). Ви можете бути як магом, так і лучником або воїном, в принципі, як і було в попередніх частинах. Але, хоча в грі доступно різноманітна кількість зброї, одягу та зілля, однак в грі немає торговців та ігрової валюти, тому ходити та "зачищати" локації вже не так цікаво, як було раніше, однак гра наділена собою великою кількістю лорної літератури, яка може бути цікавою фанатам серії.
Окрім цього, гра має одну особливу механіку, яка виділяється серед інших, а саме [b]Діалоги[/b], тобто ви можете розмовляти... з усіма, не тільки з людьми, а й навіть з даедра, таким чином розмовляти зі своїми ворогами, щоб дізнаватися більше інформації.
Також в грі немає того відкритого світу, що було в Arena та Daggerfall, в грі доступні 6 коридорних і 1 великий рівень для проходження, які розбавлені різними ворогами та загадками, тому нудно точно не буде. В ході гри ви зустрінете "цікавих персонажів", які вам запам'ятаються та допоможуть вибратися на волю.

Таким чином, гра хоч і "обрізана" в певних аспектах, які є невід'ємною частиною серії, однак вона також принесла щось нове, залишилася цікавим експериментом, який приніс мені багато спогадів, як приємних так і не дуже, здебільшого це були певні баги які впливали на гру. Однак в підсумку, для мене, гра виявилася дуже цікавою та принесла багато емоцій.

I first learned about the existence of this Elder Scrolls entry from a review and bought it thinking, "How bad could this be?". Then I started playing and... well, I can see why this game almost bankrupted Bethesda. The controls are a little clunky/awkward and there seems to be some paper doll-style clipping with the equipment, though that could be due to me playing it on modern hardware. The level design is also a bit confusing with no clear indication on where to go.
However, there are some positive aspects about Battlespire-- it definitely presents an interesting experience as you play, the music is nice, the sprites look great and there are exploits you can take advantage of to help you progress.
Battlespire is a heavily flawed entry in The Elder Scrolls saga; it featured interesting concepts that weren't executed properly likely due to the hardware limitations of the time. Perhaps one day, we'll see a return to the Battlespire, either as an official remake or as a fan remake.

No. I won't recommend this "game". Unless if you watch some walkthrough on how to get past the first "level" (in which you are stuck forever due to lack of explanations on what to do. sure, scrolls here and there telling what's the backstory and it should give some insight what happened, why you're surrounded by dozens of imps and whatever two fingered creatures and a bunch of almost too difficult enemy dremoras who holds the key objects mostly to get away from the first "level". ZERO telling what to do, where to go, and such..) you are basically doomed in that first "level".
I thought it was a good game, like a great continuation to games like daggerfall which feels more complete than this garbage.
And while you're stuck for a long period of time in the first "level", you will hear that boring soundtrack all over again, gladly theres a possibility to lower the sounds. Also it is funny how the dremoras laugh at your lack of knowledge about this bizarre game. Nice one todd.
And the jumping sound? Wtf. And the jumping mechanism overall is really dumb.
If some mods will come across to fix this piece of hevonp4ska, i recommend everyone to just leave it be.

There is a Multiplayer option which allowed co-op play through GameSpy, but doesn't work as GameSpy shut down years ago.

Battlespire is a fun game, that I wish there was more of. I find it sad that many people only know about Skyrim, and not the rest of the mainline ES games, and that even less people know of the secondary games, because they're really well done. I wish they kept making these, between all of the main games. Heaven knows we could have had a lot, instead of all the re-releases of Skyrim. There is a bit of learning involved with the controls, but like the other earlier ES games, they're easy to use whence you pick up on them. You can wander for ages, and it's really cool. It does run in DOS, so if it can run doom, your pc can very likely run this too. Another cool thing is just how many things from this game you'll see referenced in later ES games. Be looking.

Let's start off with the good. This game is a linear game in the Elder Scrolls franchise, which is interesting. It's also got some funny dialogue and a few interesting tidbits about the daedra, such as their political workings. That's it.
This is one of the jankiest and most frustrating games I've ever played, with tough controls and gamebreaking bugs. It's also got a pretty anticlimactic ending, so there's no real reason to play this game when you can just read the plot summary or skim through a playthrough on YouTube. But if you're a weirdo like me and still want to check this out despite all warnings, then there's no point in playing it without a walkthrough open. Because like I said, you WILL get frustrated to no end.

released 2022? More like 1990. I guess Bethesda have come a long way despite the haters. But this is REALLY bad for modern gamers and doesn't work well on a decent system. No tutorial, sound is choppy, movement jumps all over the place. Optimised retro can be okay. This isn't that. It's a "hell no" from me.
Игра ужасна, боевка нереально сложная, проходить будете по гайду следуя 1 в 1 ибо найти что-то и что-то нажать это как искать иголку в стоге сена, при этом с 4 левела скипая всех врагов почти ибо убить их можна не с первой попытки а их сотни.
Представьте что вы играете в старый дум, но там можно общаться со всеми демонами забавными диалогами (сначала как обычный попаданец а потом в стиле крутого перца) и есть любопытный сюжет.
Для тех кто любит тему даэдр и обливиона это просто кладезь информации и обязательно к прохождению.
Сама по себе игра о событиях параллельных арене.
Из минусов - последние уровни уж очень большие и нудные (лучше бы коридорной оставалась до самого конца) и прокачка скорее мешает насладиться рубиловом, а не добавляет глубины.
P.S. Всем кто решит сыграть - меняйте DOSBox на DOSBox Staging, иначе опыт будет не из приятных)

I loved Arena. I loved Daggerfall. Oh ♥♥♥♥ do I hate Battlespire. It is a buggy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess that has random difficulty spikes, not from damage, but from the fact that spells launch you a mile backwards and the final level is nothing but floating islands (meaning you have to try every fight three times cuz you get knocked off and into lava). If there is one thing that game did well is make me despise Dagon with every fibre of my being. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, ♥♥♥♥ that guy for making me play through this crap. If you want to play an old elder scrolls game, play Daggerfall. Or even Arena. But holy hell don't play Battlespire

[i]An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire[/i] is an Action RPG that lacks levitation. An odd choice for a RPG developed by Bethesda before 2006. The entire time I was playing this game, I was developing a better understanding of 2006's [i]Oblivion[/i]. It's strange how similar the two games feel. This game happens to take place during the Imperial Simulacrum (Jagar Tharn's reign over the Cyrodilic Empire). Jagar Tharn was the main antagonist of [i]The Elder Scrolls: Arena[/i] and he's the one that gave Battlespire to Mehrunes Dagon (You can find letters written by Tharn within Battlespire). Dagon used the Battlespire to invade Shade Perilous (realm of the Nocturnal) and the Soul Cairn (realm of the Ideal Masters) and used those invasions as stepping stones in preparation and training for a full-scale invasion of Tamriel, which he would actually attempt ~35 years later with the Oblivion Crisis. This game is so connected to [i]Arena[/i] and [i]Oblivion[/i], which is awesome. The lore surrounding [i]Battlespire[/i] is the coolest part of the game.
Now for the negatives: [i]Battlespire[/i] features more platforming than the two previous [I]Elder Scrolls[/i] titles. The platforming sucks and I would suggest saving right before any platforming attempt. There's no levitation, so no getting out of the platforming that way. The Apprentice (player character) has to jump, run, and swim around. The jumping is janky, and can lead to your character getting stuck to walls/edges or falling off (no matter how well executed the jumps project to be). The swimming can be too fast paced (If you choose Swimming as a major skill) and can lead to your character clipping through walls and out of the dungeons. The running is fine, Bethesda didn't screw that up. There's a major bug on level 5 (that I luckily didn't experience because I just so happened to decide to read a guide for the level before reaching it). The bug is a save game bug that involves the expansion of the file size of save files than can eventually lead to saves becoming corrupted and unloadable. [b]DO NOT save during Level 5[/b]. Remember to take advantage of all your save slots when you're not actively on Level 5.
After completing [i]An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire[/i] I now feel as though [i]The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion[/i] is more a sequel to [i]Battlespire[/i] than it is a sequel to [i]The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind[/i]. The Oblivion Crisis was partially an act of revenge against the Septim dynasty and the Cyrodilic Empire over how the events of Battlespire were resolved. Mehrunes Dagon's attempt to invade Tamriel was delayed by the Apprentice.
The endgame cinematic is really good. There's technically multiple endings (you can uncouple Battlespire's anchors...if you want).

Non sono riuscito a finire questo gioco, ma devo dire che per le mie poche ore di gioco, posso dire con sicurezza che questo gioco è un bel titolo del suo tempo sicuramente non un capolavoro, e sicuramente non con una storia esaltante, ma con uno stile fluido e simil pixel art 3D
Modelli fatti benissimo e meccaniche molto intrattenenti
