If you've ever read All Quiet On The Western Front or watched literally any installments of the movies this game is for you.
That being said. The gameplay is incredibly easy unless you click some checkmarks to make it artificially more difficult.(I made sure that the french couldn't shoot the same bullets so we can't just be stocked up on ammo, it just made sense to me)
But other than that. It's an interesting and narratively driven game based on simply keeping folks alive.
You aren't here to change history, you're here to keep up to six people alive as their sarge.
This game has lots of potential. The battles need to be longer, you should actually be able to fight during defense, and they should remove or at least dial back the notebook dialog sequences (make the sequences more impactful and less frequent). The turn based offensive battles are very fun and unique and I enjoy that your soldiers play better with some and not other in your group. Hopefully with more updates this game will become a little less repetitive. Because while it does have decent re-playability from run to run, you might get bored with each run you start after not too long. I wouldn't pay more than $15 for this game in its current state.
GREAT GAME, while diolouge can get a bit repetitive, combat so far is pretty good, simple, but your actions 100% have consequences, play too nice with superiors, your troops could hate your or collapse from overworking, and vice versa. Anyway, you get REALLY attached to your subordinates... still crying about losing my precious Kohn...
Nice and fun compact game , covers a usually forgotten side relating to a subject that's hardly covered in games .

the game is very buggy and repetitive, at least in my experience, you cant command the people, more so pick where they go, covering fire does nothing, no enemies actually die, and when attacking just doesn't work. call this a skill issue but the game just isn't fun. in no way is this game worth 25 dollars.

Solid WW1 simulation game with unique concept turned into turn-based survival RPG. I already played this game outside of Steam since its first ever release but I wanted to show my support to the developers so I bought this game. Hoping to see more developed and fleshed out mechanics and system within!

genuinely really good. im not that into turn-based or strategy games but this one is really fun. the main problems are just janky ai that walk past each other and other small jank that isnt gamebreaking but moreso immersion breaking. its a turn-based war game mixed with a resource/party managment game that also shows you a lot of the innards of the war, both intense and monotonous, genuine and cold. its just really good and will only get better as it gets more work put into it.

A really fun WW1-squad based game. It plays like a fully released game and the updates the Dev team put out make the game more fun and detailed. Still some features I like would like to see, like more actual combat and squad mechanics, but combat is still fun now!

Tipo o development do jogo é bom, mas ele não te da mecânicas novas, não te motiva a continuar jogando, tipo, o jogo deveria ter um sistema de tasks e microtasks, onde tem uma task maior, onde o personagem pode fazer ela e mais uma microtask, com penalidade na moral, obvio, mas me diga, oque o jogo faz, o personagem demora 5 a 6 dias limpando uma latrina, cara uma latrina é tipo um balde com merda dentro. Só joga em algum lugar e fds. Além do mais o combate é a maior merda que eu já vi, o jogo não te apega aos personagens e além disso eles são imortais, tipo o plot armor deles é insano, caiu um morteiro em cima de um deles e o cara literalmente tropeçou para trás e ficou com o status de ferido, e depois de um turno ele voltou para a cobertura, o bgl do jogo seria os personagens morrem muito rápido, e são substituídos facilmente, e se ele ganhar muita experiência ele fica vivo por mais tempo, mas as missões que o jogo te dá são, recolha corpos, mate um sniper inimigo, corte arame farpado, carregue suprimentos de um lugar a outro. COMO VOCÊ QUER QUE EU ACREDITE QUE DUAS PESSOAS FORAM A NOITE E CORTARAM ARAME FARPADO INIMIGO SEM PISAR EM UMA MINA TERRESTRE OU SER ATINGIDO POR UM INIMIGO E QUANDO ACONTECE ALGUMA COISA É DO TIPO "Eu tive sorte e saí vivo",

Dobra gierka.
Zugegeben, es ist mir nicht leicht gefallen, den Daumen nach unten zu geben. Denn im Kern will das Spiel wirklich Atmosphäre schaffen in einem recht unverbrauchtem Setting. Doch leider scheitert es an der selbst gestellten Aufgabe an so vielen kleinen Punkten, die dann schlussendlich die Immersion zerstören.
Der Schwerpunkt dieses Spiels liegt in den zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen, die wir als Gruppenführer managen müssen, um unsere Jungs bei Laune zu halten und lebend wieder nach Hause zu bringen. Der Krieg in seiner Grausamkeit führt die Gruppe dabei in Extremsituationen, die von jedem anders verarbeitet werden. So weit die Idee den Spieler immersiv auf einer sozial psychologischen Ebene zu fordern. In Teilen gelingt es. Wo scheitert es?
Ein paar Beispiele aus meiner 13h Kampagne (Juli1916)
1. Tagebucheinträge wiederholen sich. Passen aber überhaupt nicht zum Charakterbild des jeweiligen Soldaten. Konkret: Einer meiner Soldaten drangsaliert französische Gefangene mit dem Wassereimer. Beim ersten Fall konnte ich das nachvollziehen, der Charakter des Soldaten und sein bisheriges Verhalten ließen das erahnen.. Beim zweiten identischen Vorfall betraf es plötzlich meinen sehr schüchternen Theologiestudenten Kummerbunt, der überhaupt nicht charakterlich zu so etwas fähig wäre.
2. In einem anderen Tagebucheintrag beschwert sich Soldat Ackermann über Soldat Fleckner, weil er in seiner Freizeit bestimmte Bücher ließt -> das wäre an sich nicht so gravierend, wenn Soldat Fleckner nicht Monate zuvor desertiert wäre und überhaupt nicht mehr Teil meiner Gruppe ist.
3.Leutnant Karrsbrucks Befehle sind grausam repetetiv. Aller Furz lang Stacheldraht zerschneiden, Patroulie im Dorf und wieder von vorn, dann meint er ständig das Soldat XY bei seinem letzten Befehl nicht dabei war und das ich das ändern solle. Obwohl besagter Soldat eben genau diesen Befehl ausgeführt hat. Nun könnte man argumentieren, das eben genau das Repetetive, die geistige Abnutzung und Verzweiflung in den Gräben verstärkt - Tut es nicht. Immersion geht anders. Hier fehlt es schlicht an Vielfalt und Ideenreichtum
4.In einem Save habe ich mit 4 Leuten im Lazarett und einem aktiven Soldaten geendet und bei der Neuladung waren plötzlich zwei neue in der Gruppe. Keine Ahnung wo die plötzlich herkamen, denn beim Ausloggen waren sie nicht dabei.
Und so könnte ich die Liste noch u einiges verlängern.
Die Ansätze sind gut, aber leider geht hier nach kurzer Zeit die Luft raus. Was nützt es, wenn ich den sozialen Background von einer Figur habe (Familienstand, Kinder, Beruf, Herkunft) das aber überhaupt kein Rolle zu spielen scheint, weil die Tagebucheinträge aus einer Datenbank abgefragt werden, wo dann zufällig die Namen eingesetzt werden und daraus bestimmte Verhaltensboni oder Mali erzeugt werden. Ganz egal ob das charakterlich zu dem Soldaten passt. Dadurch werden die mühevoll angezeicheten Skizzen der Charakter verwässert und bleiben eben genau in der sozialen Ebene flach und 2 Dimensional. Das gleiche gilt für unseren kommandierenden Offizier. Wie oben schon beschrieben folgt der einer geradlinigen Abfrage von Möglichkeiten der Befehle an uns, die man an einer Hand abzählen kann.
Der Wechsel zwischen Lager und Front ist an sich gut gedacht und nachvollziehbar, aber durch beschriebene Fehler und die ständige Wiederholung, von immer den gleichen Aufgaben ist es nur ermüdend.
Was könnte man verbessern?
Unbedingt an den Charakterprofilen arbeiten! Denn das ist der Dreh- und Angelpunkt dieses Spiels. Von mir aus eine KI dazuschalten, die wirklich ein stimmiges Profil aufbaut, von jedem Soldaten und dementsprechend glaubwürdige, schlüssige Handlungen formuiert.
Mehr Abwechslung bei den Aufgaben, sowohl im Lager, als auch an der Front. Mehr Stimmung einfangen und halten. Es darf ruhig auch mal repetetiv sein, aber nicht ständig und immer. So dass man genau weiß was als nächstes kommt.
Ich hoffe die entwickler bleiben hier am Ball und formen das breiige Grundmaterial in eine solide Form, denn der Spielemarkt braucht genau solche Ideen, nur eben besser umgesetzt.
