Alicemare is a somehow familiar yet totally unique adventure game with strong horror leanings, created by △○□× (Miwashiba) using the Wolf RPG Editor. The game follows an amnesiac young boy named Allen who was placed under the care of a man called Teacher who looks after four other children.

I can recommend this game, with a few important observations. The art is pretty cool—you can see that the developer put some real effort into it. The stories of each character are quite well made, as they guide the player to think about what was really going on with the kids and the Teacher, while at the same time leaving some blank spaces on purpose to maintain the grim atmosphere. Being a short game, these points alone already make it worth playing.

BUT (and it's a big but), the game doesn't deliver satisfying endings. All of them seem shallow and leave many questions not properly addressed. In this case, it doesn't feel like a strategy to maintain some mystery, but rather gives the impression of a premature and abrupt ending, no matter what.

I really wanted to like this game since I'm a sucker for RPG horror pixel art kind of games, but this one was not it. The art is cute and music was really nice. I also liked the characters and their stories (even tho I feel they could explain or show more about them so you can understand better what's going on)... the thing is (in my opinion) the story doesn't make any sense, much less in the end. I didn't understand any of the endings, feels inconclusive. Another thing I didn't get was the puzzles, I was able to do it because of a guide, really.
I will give this game 5/10 just because the music was good and I liked the sad vibe.

A nice and poetic, if not extremely sad game. The OST is really good, adding melancholy athmosphere to everything.
I played through most of the endings. I had the solutions next to me as I was going because I didn't want the difficulty of the riddles to take me qwqy from the story.

I'd say this game is good because it's kinda niche (?) so it will always attract the players it's meant for.

Cute and cool. I'm confused on what I played in the sense that I'm not sure I was 100% on what was going on, I am unsure how to explain it. I got I guess the overall plot, dreams and such but I couldn't explain said plot without thinking I did it well. Allen is little baby and he is precious and I could squish him.

Alice Mare used to be one of my favorite RPG Maker games back in middle school, so of course I had to buy and replay it when it released on steam! The style is very cute and simple, and I'm a huge fan of the soundtrack, but I find some of the puzzles to be a bit too hard and feel like they could've expanded more on the individual stories, and even on the true ending.

I decided to buy it mainly to offer support to the devs, and since it's so cheap I think it's 100% worth it, but I wish we had more contents, or a remake since lots of RPG Maker games from my childhood have been remade recently. Hopefully one day.

Alicemare is short, you can 100% it in less than three hours if you know what you're doing, but it's worth the purchase.

¿Es para todos? No. Si vienes buscando gameplay denso, acción o retos duros, este juego te va a parecer una caminata filosófica con puzzles. Pero si lo tuyo es el misterio suave, el simbolismo y el “qué estoy viendo exactamente”, vas a salir satisfecho.

3个多小时通关了大部分结局
语言官方只有日语和英语
懒得打汉化补丁
所以直接用日语玩的(几乎都是平假名看的让人头大x

首先作者的其他像素游戏能玩的我也是都玩过了
画风蛮有他自己的风格的我还挺喜欢
这部的关键词则是黑暗向x童话
每个出场角色和背景故事都捏他了一个经典童话
剧情方面分为了几个小世界在不同的角色的世界里探索找钥匙
总体流程不是很长解密难度也不算很高
但作者很喜欢搞各种逻辑向的谜题懒得动脑的话还是直接去看攻略吧（比如我hhh
故事是有点谜语人要素不过大部分还是蛮好懂的
就是到最后也没能清楚知道男主到底经历了什么x

总结:
喜欢这类像素rpg游戏的人还是可以来试一试的
全通大概要花4个小时左右打折的时候价格也不贵

Even though Alicemare is a fairly short game, it stands out thanks to its strong story and atmosphere. The narrative feels engaging throughout and does a great job of pulling the player into its world. It could have been better, but for $1 USD...
- 3h of gameplay,
- 2h of Stella playing the piano (my own choice, optional).
Worth it!

But, on a more serious note, it's meh. The story is lacking, the gameplay is mediocre, the sound is OK, the font it terrible (e.g. the "i"s look like brackets "["...), but the art is super cute. All you have to do is wander around a bit and solve text and "environmental" riddles (e.g. someone says they're thirsty, so you have to remember that you just saw a water well...).

I got sucked into playing the Tetris clone for an hour instead of playing the game (optional challenge, btw), and worst of all, they give you multiple opportunities to do so.

I really loved Alicemare. Even though it’s a short game, it kept me engaged from start to finish. I like how it mixes fairytale elements with horror and tragedy, creating a melancholic atmosphere supported by a pleasant OST.

The characters are adorable and have interesting lore that made me want to learn more about them. The gameplay is simple and relaxing, with easy puzzles.

It's alright. The only real exclusive content you're getting with this version rather than the free version is that the paintings are higher quality, so if that's not a bother then just play the free version.

As for the game itself, it's really just an amalgamation of fairytales into one story, each with their own horror twist. The art, for what it goes for, is really nice. The music choices are fine, rather fitting for what the rest of the game is going for. The story, while confusing at times, isn't bad by any means. If there was one complaint to be had, it'd be that the dream worlds can feel pretty empty at times. More exploration would've served it well, but for what it does it does nicely.

The art is gorgeous and the story is (personally) very well-written. When I found out it was on Steam I had to buy it and play it again. It was just as good as I remember!!

I ❤ the overall vibe and design of the game, the style is very cute and charming but a bit eerie and creepy. The concept is very interesting and the music was lovely, perfectly matching the aesthetics of the game. However, there were some annoyances for me, like collecting hidden items throughout the game. Without looking up a guide, i would have never known where the hidden items are. Also, Shards must be collected in order. if you miss one, the next levels won’t have any shards and u cant revisit pass rooms unless u load a save file, so make sure to save ur files throughout various points in the game!I would love if they expand the stories of each character. Since the plot was confusing and the game was very short, the characters end up very forgettable as we dont have time to get to know them.

I spent RM2.88 which is roughly around $0.69USD, i'd say its worth the price! I wouldnt recommend it if u're looking for a story-rich game but maybe u'd enjoy it if u like the aesthetics and looking for a light read.

Gioco molto carino, con enigmi stuzzicanti. Alcuni da fare ad intuito,altri da ragionarci un po' di più (io fortunatamente l'ho giocato con dei miei amici abituati a layton e altri giochi simili). E' un po' un'allegoria delle classiche favole, con qualcosa in più. Il finale è un po' a interpretazione inizialmente fino a che non vai a scoprire la lore a fondo.

generally I love old school pixel art games, and the character art in this is really pretty.

I like the vibes, but that's about it. If I had not used I guide I would have never finished this. I finished it because my ocd brain told me I had to keep going. but it was painful

I played this game at first when I was a teenager god remembers where exactly. Probably from some sketchy page where I played all other type of classic horror indie RPGs like this one. I've played Mad Father, Ib, One Shot, Aria's Story, Corpse Party, Midnight Train and so many more! I could be here for days if I had to mention all of them.

And still after so many years and so many games of this style this is still my all time favourite RPG of those years. I loved, I still love and I will forever love it. The cliche but never boring concept of Alice in Borderland done again in a different and unique way. The cute drawings and lovely pixel art, the music and effects...

Just play it. Play it if you have enjoyed any of the games I mentioned or similar. You will like it. It's not that expensive, it gets on sales quite often and it's really enjoyable. It's not terribly short neither long but you will take some time to get all the achievements. Please, buy it and enjoy a hot coco with it.

Alicemare is considered one of the “classic” RPGM games, but many people get confused because the game’s engine (Wolf RPG) is similar to RPGM, which is understandable.

Let me start with the story. It’s actually pretty well written, except it has one big glaring issue: the climax of the story seems too cryptic to understand clearly unless you look at every little detail or read some kind of explanation. It’s pretty straightforward until, as I said before, the climax. It’s not my cup of tea, but there may be some people who like this kind of story.

Gameplay is the usual story-driven puzzle game style. I’ve seen some people dislike the puzzles in this game, but I think if you think about them (or take notes) for a little while, they’re pretty solvable. I really liked them. Other than that, it’s the usual walk, gather items, and solve puzzles type of gameplay.

The music complements the game really well, but I think its volume becomes really high at some points, which made me kinda dislike it. Maybe that’s an issue with it being really old or a problem with the game engine.

The art style is pretty cutesy. It may look too pixelated, but it still has its own charm. Character designs look pretty cute as well. The world mostly looks like a standard RPGM game, but it also does its job well.

Overall, as an avid RPGM games fan, I liked it. It’s nothing exceptional, but since it’s one of the classics and is also really cheap during sales, I recommend it to those who also like this kind of game.

I absolutely loved Alice mare. From the moment I stepped into its quiet, dreamlike world, I was hooked. The pixel art is simple but atmospheric, the music is haunting, and every character feels mysterious and meaningful. It’s like a dark fairy tale with layers of emotion underneath.
I really enjoyed exploring the different endings even though some of them made me feel genuinely sad. The way the story slowly reveals its themes of memory, trauma, and healing is both subtle and powerful.

If you like story-driven games with a touch of darkness and emotion, Alice mare is definitely worth playing.

Honestly pretty good, I was aware of Alicemare already, but after replaying LiEat I wanted more Miwashiba games, and saw Alicemare was one, so I go to play it and it's pretty good, personally I do prefer LiEat, I think LiEat deserves more attention, but this is really good too, I do think the dialogue can drag on sometimes, but that's only a personal gripe and not an indication of the quality, it's a very story based game, with some puzzles thrown in, although some puzzles can be pretty irritating at least in my experience, I still enjoyed the game overall though

I do have a couple issues though, I'm aware the novel exists but a game should stand on it's own imo,
I feel like the design of the real world could be a bit more streamlined, you can't enter the bathrooms, but their existence makes you think there's some significance, so every time I was there I was checking them just in case, and that'd be fine on it's own since it's right outside your room, but then there's the locked door in the kitchen, the locked door outside Teacher's room, and room 101, and spoiler, they serve 0 purpose whatsoever

Maybe they're meant to give you the sense that this place is bigger than it is, but I'd really rather not have these extra rooms for no functional purpose, and for the bathroom, well everybody has to go, you never actually go in this game though, so it could be removed completely and you'd be unlikely to notice, because it's just not important to the story for there to be a bathroom (I mean I don't remember there being any bathrooms in LiEat after all), but also even just having a little bathroom available, a single unisex one, or just having the boy's room be available and not the girl's, that'd be fine, and I do think if I was able to enter it at any time I wouldn't feel like there was anything to miss there

But of course these issues are very minor and don't really interfere with your experience too much, I just felt that for a review it's best to look for the areas it can be improved or falls short, overall it's just a good story driven game, although it doesn't really hand out the story to you, so if having a slightly unclear story is something you don't like maybe avoid this, but I think it's fine and an effective way to keep the game in your mind afterwards

I should also add, it's fairly short, with a guide you could absolutely 100% this game within probably a bit over 30 minutes, but without a guide for the main parts it'll probably be just a couple hours, I you will probably need a guide for some parts though, be it puzzles or figuring out certain endings

also you get a free tetris minigame so there's that, but it could control better tbh, and you can't spin it until it's a certain amount down from the top which can make it feels slow or clunky

Idk if I was just slow but I didn't get what the story was on about until like the very end but overall, the game might be quite confusing from the riddles if you're not using a guide (so I highly suggest you to follow one). Has slight horror theme but I'm in love with the credit scene music IT WAS SO SOOTHING FOR SOME REASON LOL. I managed to complete the full achievements for the game in under 4 hours with me reading all the dialogues so it's a decent playtime for me >:D

To be honest, it’s a very boring game, and the playtime is actually less than an hour, or maybe up to 3 hours if you’re the type who suddenly starts daydreaming or scrolling through your phone for half an hour.

But I took over 5 hours just to get the Tetris achievement. Yeah, I’m that bad at this, and it’s making me doubt my intellect.

The only backstory I found interesting was the Teacher’s; the rest were all boring.

However, since it’s very cheap, and I know how hard it is to survive in the gaming industry (especially for a very old RPG), I’ll still click "Recommend."

But in this review, I’m telling you: DO NOT buy this game at full price. Only get it if it’s on sale (or in a bundle), and only if you really want to try it yourself.

The only thing I enjoyed was the BGM.

Well it seems that I played Miwasiba's games in the wrong order since I started with LiEat first. Alicemare shows the first signs of his genius talent as a story teller and game maker. However, the game might feel jumbled and disconnected for the majority of your playtime with a story that crumbles bits and pieces for the player to deduce the true meaning from. Overall a very solid 7/10 first project that makes me enjoy LiEat even more!

The game is good for what it is and the price point, but there's a few points to mention. The story could have been stronger, and on my first ending I still had a lot of questions. I wouldn't have made it through 90% of the riddles without a walk through, with a walk through you will smash this game in about 2-3 hours. Some of the riddles I never would have made it through alone and still don't make sense to me, even in knowing the answers. The game is quite charming in it's own way, and is worth a play through.

I really like it when games combine fairytale themes with horror and/or tragedy, hence I'd say this game did pretty well!
It has a nice dreamy, melancholic atmosphere, supported by lovely music and pixelart. The story is fairly engrossing as well, I particularly enjoyed finding out about the characters and honestly wish to know more about them, they're very adorable and have intriguing lore. Additionally there's a decent amount of endings!

The gameplay is very chill, without survival elements and the puzzles are mainly short riddles; therefore this game is rather suitable for players looking for calm, story-driven gameplay. Albeit I must admit that the lack of provided information and directions quite annoyed me at first, I think having the [spoiler]rabbit[/spoiler] explain more about the setting would've been more immersive, because I felt lost due to having no idea WHY I'm even doing anything. While I definitely understand the choice to make everything so mysterious, I believe that leaving the player absolutely clueless for majority of the game isn't very effective at maintaining interest lol.
While in general this game doesn't necessarily explore any unique concepts, I still find it quite charming and entertaining!

Alicemare is a little gem that blends classic fairytales into a bittersweet, atmospheric experience that still holds up — especially when considering it released in 2013(?) and was the first project(?) by △○□× (Miwashiba).

What really stands out in this 3-ish hour experience is how iconic tales like Hansel and Gretel, The Boy Who Cried Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood, and Snow White are reimagined into small, distorted versions that retain their core themes while offering new perspectives. They are cleverly tied together under a main Alice in Wonderland-style narrative, a unique choice that absolutely pays off.

Despite its cute, illustrated characters, the tone is unexpectedly dark. The game leans into a subtle horror atmosphere wrapped in a picture book aesthetic, and the music complements the storytelling perfectly. Now everyone say thank you to Miwashiba for all their indie games with heart and soul.

Alicemare ist mal wieder ein RPG-Maker game mit einer Neuinterpretation bzw. schwer inspiriert von Alice im Wunderland. Es gibt nun mal mittlerweile tausende Adaptionen, Parodien und hommages zu dieser Geschichte und leider holt die starke Limitierung der Enginge einen nicht unbedingt ab. Das Charakterdesign sieht zwar an sich gut aus, allerdings kommt es im Spiel kaum zur Geltung. Es wäre wesentlich hübscher anzusehen, wären die Charakterbilder ca. 3 mal so Groß und detaillierter in Gestaltung und Mimik. Meiner Meinung ist das mitunter das wichtigste in diesem Genre, da sonst die Immersion komplett auf der Strecke bleibt. in Alicemare sind die Raumverhältnisse komplett unproportional, was zwar kein Problem darstellst, aber durch den Fehlenden Inhalt einfach Leer und Lieblos wirkt. Ich bin die ersten 25 Minuten nicht nur nicht gut abgeholt worden, sondern bin in leeren Räumen umher geirrt auf der Suche nach meiner eigentlichen Aufgabe.#

Die Musik ist stabil, da es offensichtlich Klassik ist und ins Setting gut passt, aber auch nichts originelles oder außergewöhnlich.

Hinzu kommt, dass ich nach 25 Minuten keinen Speicherpunkt gefunden hatte und bei der erst besten Gelegenheit ins Gras (oder die Pilze) gebissen hatte und mein Spielstand somit zurückgesetzt wurde.

Ich kann es leider nicht Empfehlen, die 3€ sind besser woanders aufgehoben und △○□× (Miwashiba) bzw. PLAYISM sollten dringend daran arbeiten Spieler:innen auf Spannende Weise ins Spiel einzuführen.
Eine Komische Katze reicht da einfach nicht aus.
