Good tabletop style game. Like everyone says, more about supply and areas of control. Its not RTS style but definately good if you like command ops

The realism in the risk management, scouting, and intelligence are great and things you don't see done well in games often. The campaign also provides different kinds of challenges for thoughtful strategy or rushing to defend. The interface is clear. It's simple where it needs to be and complex as you dive deeper. Well done!

Great game! Brother was in the 10th Mountain Division and I was in the 101st Airborne Division. Deployed to Afghanistan from 2010-2011. Brings back memories both good and bad.
A very insightful look at counterinsurgency (COIN) warfare. You'll spend the bulk of your time trying to win the hearts and minds of the populace, while at the same time fighting off insurgents who are trying their best to take over villages and ambush your troops. This version does a great job of keeping you balanced between frustration and reward - rarely are you able to be sure you're winning and very often a seemingly winning position go sour quickly.

pretty fun, I get to LARP as the ANSDF which is cool, got the game on sale and i get to raze opium fields and bomb taliban fighters. Peak gameplay although it seems the game is a little dated and has a few bugs. Overall it's a really good game and I would play this game if you like RTS games and hate terrorism. (P.S, the game is incredibly accurate as my clearly UN convoy full of humanitarian aid got blown up by a bunch of taliban fighters en route to a village whom promptly dissapeared.)
It's an amazing game but it's incredibly frustrating . I love it and at the same time I could freak out when IEDs spawn for the umpteenth time in areas that are overwatched by SF or trucks in a guarded convoy get destroyed numerous times in a row.

Game is a lot of fun, though even at the lowest difficulty its quite hard.
Definitely a deeper game than it first appears on the surface, the combat and the strategy take a bit of thought and a couple missions challenge you to come up with something different. I did get a bit sick of the repetitive scenarios, and I think they could have added in more variety rather than increase H&M score before X turns time and time again. I feel that the standard price is a little steep though, and I would suggest picking it up on sale.
Basically this is Vietnam '65, but they added a broken tutorial and IEDs that spawn instantaneously and for free directly outside of your bases every time there's an election. In Vietnam '65 you and the AI played two different games, but it was balanced and had its charm. In Afghanistan '11, the AI gets defibbed with free things every 20 turns regardless of how little income you have left them with. Yawn. Cheating AI is lame, man.
If GMT would have made video games of its Counter-Isurgeancy (COIN) instead of boardgames, this is what they would look like.
- Solid gameplay that will challenge you.
- Good scenarios covering the different times in the Afghan COIN war.
- Easy to learn but not so easily mastered mechancs.
- Four layers of gameplay, two minor (People and the U.S. Government) and two major ones (Insurgeants and COIN forces).
- Strong enphasis on logistics.
- It is a Counter-Insurgeancy game, not a typical war game. As I said, it is basicaly GMT's boardgames but in a video game. So it is more a cat and mouse game with logistics, booby traps, ambushes, etc rather than a mass units and attack one.
- Like others of the series, it shines and is quite the underdog.
- Worth every penny. Screw you AAA games!
Now the only thing left is to make an insurgeant playthrough for each of those solid games. :)
Great game, it brings out the difficulties encountered when combating insurgencies to the point of making you fear roads and terrain disconnected from your influence. Although the sandstorms and political events are annoying to deal with especially the mass ANA desertion that instantly deletes your ANA units because of poor RNG. It ultimately doesn't make you outright lose the game, but only delays your plans. Although combat success or failure is dictated by RNG, even if the combat was a failure, the unit still gains experience which boosts the RNG to favour a combat success the next time the same unit enters combat (assuming the unit attacking/attacked was an ANA unit). Your main focus in this game isn't directing fighting Taliban and Malitia, but to secure regions and set up a supply line to conduct humanitarian missions.
All in all, once you know what you are doing. This can be a great game to spend hours enjoying the process of solving the challenges and difficulties the game throws at you.

I do military logistics for a living. This game hit so close to home that I refunded it, but will probably pick it back up some day. It wasn't PTSD, but the military logistics are so routinely accurate I may as well have been at work......so I guess if you aren't me its a solid game. The uniform thing is cute, but I have a real one and decent medals and tours, so earning them here is weird. Again, its like i should just go to work and get off the game, lol.
Mechanic is very interesting. It is quite tricky to control the area you are responsible for. Logistics is the key and the gameplay requires some planning. There are times when you'll be sitting tight in your FBOs preparing for the next area sweep.
Supplies have to flow from you HQ to your FBOs or you will lose combat readiness. But it's not that easy to have the supplies flowing. IEDs, opfor militia or Taliban groups easily kill your trucks with the load. Convoys work well but have to be escorted. Choppers work well too but are somewhat expensive to operate.
Once you are successful you gain a lot of political points (game curency) and you can expand but you also have to keep the ratio of local to US forces right or you will be penalized.
There are lots of scenarios to play and randomly generated skirmish mode maps. On the latter you can set a lot of different options to finetune the gameplay to your liking. The game has a lot of replayability potential.
Graphics is good enough, animations are cool (specops carying their casualties when the unit is "wounded" for example), sound effects are more than adequate and the music background adds a cool tention.
"Just one more turn" effect is very much there when I play Afghanistan '11 game. I give this one both thumbs up.
Better than the previous "Vietnam 65". The game heavily focuses on logistics but the Talibs are very active and will cause constant threats. Missions can get repetitive but I like how each unit has a specific skill set for their own special tasks, like IED clearance bulldozers, water tower engineering, recon etc. The events are a nice gimmick, there could be more decision making involved. All in all 8/10.
This game is a pain in the ass to play.
The game seems to break its own rules, several times I've had empty spaces within the detection range of a drone or special forces and swept for IEDs, then I'll move vulnerable units through what should be perfectly safe terrain yet still have helicopters shot down in ambushes by units that can't possibly have moved to there or trucks blown up by IEDs no one could have placed. Your units are also woefully underpowered, the most advanced jets, howitzers and attack helicopters in the world often just kind of push the enemy around, which wouldn't be a problem if maybe you needed to get in close with infantry, but no, you're highly trained soldiers will frequently launch attacks only to get slapped around. Maybe you need combined arms? No, unit coordination consists almost solely of spotting for indirect fire. Load up a base with multiple squads and watch helplessly as guerrillas you see coming march across open fields to gun down your forces behind their sandbags and machine guns.
The UI frequently screws up too. I often lose turns when I tell a transport I want it to move something; the game shows the list of available units; I click on one; the menu closes and I finally click on the destination and the transport moves out- empty. Likewise with convoys, order a supply truck to follow a minesweeper and send them out and watch the truck zoom off alone before disappearing in an explosion seconds later. Having to constantly stop and ask myself "did the game actually do what I just told it to?" is obnoxious.
I love this game, played a lot before owning it on Steam, but dropped cause of brightness critical bug which prevented you from playing the game past 30-40 turns cause of how bad the screen hurted your eyes. Now it is fixed, but the game still is so damn rough and counterintuitive in some aspects, that it can be played only by COIN fans exclusively, cause it just have not enough competition on a market. Games from this developer are unique and scratch the itch of counterinsurgency simulator.
It is really good mix of logistics, politics, combat and economy. The most important is logistics, of course. So the game fundament is there and is pretty solid. I probably going to play it even more. BUT the game is absolutely user-hostile in some mechanics, for example:
1) Disappearing ANA Special Forces units after disembarking from the helicopters which can result in ruined turn or even critical error.
2) I still dont understand why the same supply trucks traverse different amount of road hexes when moving in convoy and outside of it. Imagine building your FOBs to perfectly fit the travel distance of supply trucks in 1 turn and then creating a convoy which moves 2 turns between them for some reason... [strike]It seems like there is reverse scaling between distance to travel and number of units in the convoy.[/strike] No, in the end this is the game thinking that supply trucks dont have movement buff for roads when they're part of bigger convoy comprising of different vehicles.
But this is just hilarious, because you can still drag your units one by one at a normal traverse distance and achieve the same goal taking trucks at the destintation but 2 TIMES FASTER. This is something only guys who already played the game can understand but it is a HUGE deal in this game where 80% of time you're doing logistics.
But this is not even the end. Once you disband your convoy, you will still have movement debuff on all trucks included in this convoy previously. Oh boy, this convoy system is so broken. And yes, I've read that the bug happens only if you mix your convoy with supply trucks and other vehicle types. But isn't it the point of the convoy to make it protected? I mean this is weird. The feature that was promised to ease a life a little bit just made things SO much more complicated.
I mean if the convoy applies movement penalty, but you still can move individual trucks at normal speed, then what the point of using convoys in this game? Mechanically, it doesn't make sense.
3) Highlighting unit at FOB while enemy unit is in adjacent hex is triggering a fight. I mean what? I am trying to click on unit to see if some action is available, it resurfaces at FOB and enemy counts it as a movement in their direction, which is causing the ambush to trigger. Insane thing, making sometimes your units locked at FOB cause you cant risk damaging your heli or Special Forces unit which are frequently present at FOBs. And if you dont have any unit that can remove this blockade by enemy unit, you may find yourself even passing the turn for these units.
4) Managing Action Points is painful, because the game never tells you how much AP you gonna spend on the movement, only number of turns. It makes you to literally count hexes when planning movement, especially for patrols, convoys and supply trucks / helicopters. Multiply this headache by 10 every 5-10 turns when you will have a lot of elements in your supply chain and patrol system.
These are the major complaints about the game, and this is weird these things were not fixed in the game which is 7 years old. So, I can't recommend the game to curious people who dont exactly know what to expect from the game. And I can barely recommend it to someone interested in COIN games, cause of just how frustrating the game is, where your first enemy is not the Taliban, but bugs and questionable design decisions.
I mean, sure, you can play around these problems and try to adjust your gameplay so you wont deal with too much pain meaning:
- never use ANA SF for reconaissance
- never use convoys unless all units in the convoy are of the same type
- never highlight units at FOBs with adjacent enemy unit unless you want to engage in a fight with this unit
- always count hexes
But for real, these things should've been fixed.

Yes, these games tackle hard topics. Yes, sometimes you have to play as factions that Leftists find highly objectionable. No, playing a side in a wargame does not mean you endorse their beliefs. This is absurdly obvious but due to the high presence of commies in the reviews, I have to point it out.
THAT SAID..Vietnam '65 is the one to get. It's polished, not buggy, fun to play, straightforward.
Afghanistan '11 isn't terrible, but it has not aged well. Was great on launch, there are a bunch of fairly serious bugs now. The DLC is a disaster, and introduced a lot of fiddly elements (like vehicle traffic/car bombs). You can't disable this, even though an option in "settings" supposedly allows you to! That should give you an idea of the lack of polish and functionality here. If the main menu is bugged, a lot of stuff is bugged. Devs just aren't fixing it, so I had to move on.
Angola and the other games are very promising, but rough around the edges. Wait and see after this one.
So this is a fairly decent and fun COIN game--if a bit unrealistic. The developer though, with it's choices in new titles like the Rhodesian Bush War is really giving off... umm... how do I say this? Basically they are making a game that simulates the white apartheid government of "Rhodesia" (modern day Zimbabwe) and its attempt to preserve apartheid (white minority) rule in Zimbabwe during the "Rhodesian Bush War."
The memory of "Rhodesia", incidentally, is currently quite popular among many white nationalists. With this in mind, I sadly can no longer recommend any games by this developer.

Decent game, can be a lot to manage on Elite
This game is absolutely brutally hard. On rookie, in the sandbox with certain things turned off I still can't win. I try different strategies and still, the taliban comes out of nowhere and blows my convoy up, I run out of gas and am hopelessly stranded because the convoy can't travel more than a few spaces at a time, the political cost of everything has me broke and not able to even send a drone up or call in a hellfire missile on sighted enemies. It's just punishing, totally unbalanced.
TLDR: There is combat but you spend most of your time thinking about logistics, planning the delivery of a few resource types to various units and locations safely. Depend on your preferences that's either the most boring sounding thing in the world or the game's main selling point.
Combat: The combat is present and in a sense it is very traditional with various ranged and melee (not literally) units to hit the enemies with percentage based odds of wining or loosing. On the other hand it is very asymmetrical. The enemy is an irregular force so they can tunnel to somewhere unexpected and cause trouble, and then scatter away when confronted. when it works, it feels like an engaging simulation of asymmetrical warfare. When it doesn't, it feels frustrating and unfair game of whack a mole.
Logistics: There is rations, FOB supplies, ammunition, Fuel, and UN aid. These 5 resources need to go to soldiers, bases, artillery positions, vehicles ,and villages. As the game progresses, those move further from your base. Meaning that your (usually) unarmed and unarmored delivery vehicles can get ambushed, potentially bringing down your whole supply chain. Its not the deepest system in the world (for example you don't manage stocks of anything) but I think it gets the job done pretty well. This is the aspect of the game I spent the most time on and I suspect it will be the case for you as well.
End game "twist": I mainly play the skirmish mode instead of the campaign and at the last 10-20 turns of each game, the Americans leave. Unless you have been training Afghan forces and getting them involved, you'll find your self ... well, in the position that the Afghan government found itself. Things go south pretty quickly. I really like this aspect of the game.
I'm pretty torn up about this game, since I sincerely believe that there is a gem hidden under the rough surface, but this is just... a typical Slitherine wargame, which means three things.
Ugly, like very much. See, I play video games for 34+ years, I don't really care about graphics, but I do care about messed up/badly mapped textures, or when all units look like the same and such. It's just ugly, devs seemingly didn't care to the level that it affects functionality/gameplay experience.
Quality of life / parts of gameplay is broken. I think that's the main dealbreaker here for me. As much fun as this game could be, the lack of QoL and some of the gameplay aspects just break it for me. Sometimes you cannot load a unit to the chopper, you can setup your convoy, but as soon as it gets to a FOB, it gets disbanded and many, many griefs. Doing supply runs is a pain in the ass (that should have been at least semi-automated), you don't get a warning/prediction when a FOB runs low (is going to run low) on supplies, and the list can go on. A game is supposed to be fun, and here, like 50% of the time you will frantically click left and right, figuring out your supply situation, which could have been simplified, so you can focus on the more meaningful things. Also, some stuff is simply not explained, like basics and it has the worst tutorial ever, very long, tedious and easy to lose during it.
Last, but not least price. I never had problem to shell money out for a good wargame and I understand the monetary aspect (wargames not necessarily sell that much, exceptions apply for sure, e.g. Panzer Corps series), so I don't really have a problem with it. But I actually have an issue with the first two things.
Should you buy it? Eeeeh, I don't know. It feels like a labor of love, but frankly, while the core gameplay is solid, it really would have needed some additional time to playtest and improve. There are some super simple improvements, which could go a long way to improve the gameplay experience, albeit I doubt that this game will get significant updates. Either way, I wouldn't get refunded, even if I could, maybe I will return to it time to time. Also bought the DLC to support the dev, hope the next game will be better.
Picking terrible fights with Afghan infantry just to get them to SF. 10/10 would charge Taliban hill again

Even at lowest difficulties this game is ridiculously hard. I'd say even unbalanced by design.
I really like the gameplay, it is quite unique compared to other strategy war games and has a strong focus on logistics as well as fighting. It is a bit tricky to understand fully how to play even after the tutorial missions but once you understand all the little nuances from repelling enemies to managing villages and resources it is a really good turn based strategy game.
I think with some minor improvements to the UI the game would really shine more and be a bit easier to play. Something as simple as separating unit types such as mortars in the FOB unit list might make managing units easier. Overall though I recommend the game, just don't panic if you go into negative political points, it is possible to swing things back when you get to grips with the various mechanics.

I have 60 hours in this game. Don't ask me why. It's a fun game I guess, you can't kill all the Taliban, you lose hearts and minds when you shell villages (for some reason) the game lets you shell villages if enemies are in the village. You can develop a massive logistics network only to forget about some green berets and have them starve to death (my bad).

No puedo ni pasar el tutorial porque se buguea hasta la médula y crashea, esto hace que tenga que reiniciar una y otra vez, sacándome las ganas de seguir tratando de probar lo bueno que puede llegar a estar el juego. Las mecánicas están bien, y parece complejo.
Otra cosa... Rarísimo que lo pagué 60 p en rebaja y ahora esta $2800 con el DLC.... claramente el precio completo es una estafa. COMPRAR SOLO EN ULTRA REBAJA.
Dato importante a tener en cuenta: Según se dice en la sección de "Discusiones", habría sido abandonado por los Devs. Lo que daría a entender que nunca arreglarán nada de todo lo que está roto.

The game is well made and I had no crashes or saw any bugs in the few missions I played. I will give it a pass though. I liked the Vietnam game they did, but it had serious flaws (in my opinion). There is no Undo move button if you mis-click (very easy to do when you have stacked units with confusing directions for both). Your units can still die within a turn of not being supplied. Helicopters crash if you forget to refuel them. I can't be bothered with all of that. I would prefer that detailed level of management is all automated in the game mechanics, not something I have to actually manage. I like building and fighting, not supplying and maintaining. However, if you like that sort of supply and maintenance type of game, this may be for you (get it on sale). Good luck. I like indi developers and try to support them so I won't refund this game as I got it on 80% sale. Slitherine should know better however about the undo button (which it has in the Panzer Corps series).

Non fatevi ingannare dal tempo giocato perchè spesso lascio i giochi in stand by o peggio mi ci addormento sopra. Questo è un gioco che alla fine trova il suo difetto maggiore nella ripetitività. Però alla fine ... originale l'ambientazione, buono il sistema di gioco, difficile ma non troppo.
I really love this game but its difficult to love. I like the way you have to spread your influence across a map. Building up militia, setting up FOB's, setting up convoys, fighting off attacks. But there's just something about the game's systems and controls that makes everything very tedious. I think this game needs to be ran through a redraft of its gameplay systems to really figure out what its trying to do.
I think this is the closest the vast majority of us will get to seeing how complex maintaining a presence in Afghanistan was. If you're a planner by nature, this game is for you.

A well-paced, enjoyable strategy game that gets players thinking several moves ahead at all times. I especially enjoy that logistics is critical to success, given that it is a factor often overlooked in most strategy games. The game is challenging enough on the default settings to get the balance correct between enjoyment of the game and punishment for poor decision-making.
Should've put me in charge of the war, and we would not have been humiliated. Good game. Actually makes you think and plan.
I think the game is pretty cool. The theme and game play work really well together, searching for IED's before sending units down the road, finding opium fields, getting intel from villages, it all works well together. It also does a good job of making the missions seem dangerous and you really have to be methodical and careful when sending units out.
But there was one annoying things about it that made me decide not to finish it. When you send units on missions that will take more than one turn, when you cycle to that unit again on the following turn, there is no indication of what you sent it to go do the turn before. The game is very mid. Its the only game I think I have ever regretted buying at full price. If the game is on a big sale, I think its fun for a few afternoons, and the royal marines dlc is alright. I'm a huge fan of Coop games, and I think this game would be much better if it had Coop, and would definitely be worth the $40 I paid for it. The main problem with this game, is some levels are super mind numbing. Sometimes you destroy all the enemies by turn 25, but you still have to wait like 30 rounds to actually finish the operation. This game does do a good job of forcing you to support and supply all your units, and makes sure you think through where you move units, otherwise you will suffer consequences.

An interesting take on turn based hex strategy where your main goal is to accrue "popularity points" from the local populace by doing certain nation building tasks, playing as the giant, technologically and militarily superior US.
The game excels in forcing you to continue (frustratingly difficult) nation building even though its incredibly easy to just default back to "kill all taliban", however in an ironic twist, killing taliban and militia is actually one of the best ways to boost hearts and minds points.
The most rewarding parts are seeing your ANA units develop into a very capable military, absolutely steamrolling taliban in late game, and the interesting mechanics of the different units and training them.
While i did play the entire game on the hardest possible difficulty, some game elements were a little frustrating - my soldiers and mraps unable to ford a river while a beat up taliban hilux with an AA gun in the back can easily do so. Roads being mined with IEDs despite no taliban or militia being anywhere near them for 10 turns or more (although i can see this being an intention mechanic). Perpetually scanning for mines and fixing waterworks also got tiring incredibly quickly.
There are also some spelling errors, English that borders on broken at times, and although not usually game breaking, there are some bugs and mechanics that dont work intuitively.
In spite of this, id still recommend it to anyone who enjoys war strategy or finds the circumstances of the war in the middle east interesting.

I like this game a lot, it's just a shame the developers didn't really finish it before moving on to other projects. It feels like 90% complete game as far as features and missions go, but there's some odd latency when you get to high turn counts and some awkwardly designed UI that cramps the long games sometimes.
Other than that, it's a cool game, somewhere between an RTS and a Civilization-esque game. Maintain roads and infrastructure to raise H&M points while hunting out concealed cells of insurgent fighters. Once you get the loop down it does get a bit tiring though (Put SF on mountain > make outpost > send mine sweeper > send grunts > resupply SF).
Generalnie mogę polecić tę grę, która jak widzę jest poświęcona ludziom, którzy służyli w Afganistanie.
Co jest na plus? Jest to ciekawa gra turowa, w której musimy dbać nie tylko o zwalczanie wroga, ale też o zaopatrzenie naszych wojsk co często jest bardzo trudne.
Na minus dla mnie, jest długość misji. Przez 1,5 godziny zrobiłem 20 tur. Misje zwykle wymagają 60.
Inną rzeczą jest dla mnie niewidoczność przeciwnika. Pewnie miało to urealnić sytuację afgańską, lecz jest dalece denerwujące jak wróg kiedy już mamy go atakować, nagle zaczyna uciekać. Normalnie byłoby w miarę okej, ale to jest turówka.
Subiektywna ocena, mimo to zachęcam do zagrania.

Bardzo ciekawa gra strategiczna opierająca się o ciekawą mechanikę. Rzekłbym że jedyna gra w której jest symulowana wojna z partyzantami. W tym przypadku Afgańskimi talibami. Celem gry nie jest wojowanie i wygrywanie starć ale wsparcie lokalnych społeczności i wyszkolenie sił lokalnych. By następnie wycofać kontyngent przed upływem rozgrywki.
Gra charakteryzuje się dużym mikrozarządzaniem jednostkami na mapie. Jest tu sporo klikania a dynamika rozgrywek jest dość spora. Rozgrywki bywają długie przez co czasami mogą się dłużyć. Wyzwania stawiane przez grę potrafią być trudne. Mi ta gra się bardzo spodobała. Ponieważ nie ma zbyt wysokiego progu wejścia i szybko można ją opanować. Zatem jest z tych lekkich łatwych i przyjemnych.

Despite all the hours I've put into Afghanistan '11, I don't know if I've had a moment where I thought to myself, "wow, this if fun!" or "whoa! that was cool!". The game is a slow, repetitive, and mind-numbing distraction.
The combat is boring and one-dimensional, with minimal room for any of the tactics or finesse of something like a Civ game--it's just bashing one set of numbers against another with minimal other considerations. The maps are visually uninteresting--I get that it's the arid mountains and green valleys of Afghanistan, they're all equally boring to look at. Moreover, the 'random events' that occur are equally dull, and usually amount to nothing more than 'number for thing is slightly lower or higher for the next few turns'.
The logistics system is the backbone of the actual gameplay, and your main past time will be building FOBs and manually putting together little groups of supply trucks and sending them out to supply your FOBs. While the logistics mechanics allow for some challenge in creating a smoothly running supply system to keep your troops fed and your artillery firing, the game badly needs some way to automate this.
The methodical pace might appeal to some, but for me it just makes the world feel dull and unreactive.
If the game were more dynamic and interesting, it might feel like a challenge of keeping lots of plates spinning, but as is, it feels like busywork; like you're doing the dishes, but someone keeps adding more dirty dishes to the stack while you're working.
Afghanistan '11 deserves a huge amount of credit for what it tries (and in many ways succeeds) in doing -- i.e. depicting a kind of warfare that isn't simply about subduing your opponent by force. The systems highlight the futility of insurgency war in such elegant ways (the endless loops of convoys being hit by IEDs, chasing off Taliban only for them to come right back as soon as you leave, the non-stop grind of desert logistics) that it's almost brilliant.
It's a shame that the game doesn't do more with these ideas. There are tense and exciting moments, often when an isolated FOB is in real trouble and you struggle to get supplies through before the defenders are overrun) but it's generally a game quite low in drama. In fact, in some scenarios, where you've more or less solved the puzzle and the enemy is well under control, you're well supplied and political power is plentiful, there's just not a lot to do but run down the clock until the turn limit kicks in and you're declared the winner.
That turn limit is by far the most misjudged part of this game. Every scenario gives you objectives that need to be completed within 60 turns. 60 turns can easily take 5-6 hours to pass by. This is just too long given that, apart from having more units to order around, more supply convoys to worry about, turn 59 is more ore less the same as turn 20. It's just too much and can turn into a real grind, especially when every single action is manual. There's no way to automate supply lines or patrols -- you have to give ever single order personally.
On top of that, each scenario is also basically the same. Sure, the map layout will be different and the objectives will vary, but the way you approach one scenario will be more or less the same.
There are some pretty irritating QoL and UI issues -- first and foremost there is no manual save. For me that made the initial learning curve really frustrating, because while you're getting the hang of things you will balls it up, and the only option is to start the whole scenario over. Since that might be five hours of play down the toilet, it's pretty forgivable.
But, I do think this game is worth a look, even just to try your hand at a couple of scenarios, see some of the really interesting ideas it has about representing asymmetric warfare in a traditional wargame format, and see if it gives you an interesting perspective on a war that lots of us still remember watching on TV.

Great concept & setting. The innovative game mechanics work and are fun. Special bonus point for a not-so-daily setting.
But why negative? Thats why:
- Unfriendly controls - way too much clicking for everything
- 100 times the same standard tasks to do - no automation at all. And these tasks need a lot of clicking...
- Most boring music/sound I've heard for a veeeery long time
- Very uninteresting graphic. I really don't need graphics, normally I'm fine with simple 2d graphic. But here... its not "nice 2d strategic map style" nor "fancy 3d". It is just... very boring, unintersting, bad 3d
- Sound/music/graphic is so boring, that the game gets boring very fast. Even if it really could have been fun otherwise
Yeah. I have to admit, that the game has a great concept, and is made very well. But somehow it became boring after a little bit more then an hour. There are more fun strategy games out there; no need for Afghanistan '11 if you are not really into the (rare) setting.

本編は、いきなり１ゲーム目から異常に難しい。難易度調整が間違ってるのではないかという気がする。チュートリアルをようやく乗り越えていざ楽しむぞと思ったら、アパッチは撃墜されるわ、チヌークは撃墜されるわで、すっかりやる気を失ってしまった。正直とても勝てる気がしない。
地雷除去は大変だし、自分の部隊はタリバン相手にすぐやられるし、索敵できる部隊はきわめて限られてるし、一体全体どうすればいいのか。つまらぬチュートリアルを用意するのではなく、易しいミッションを用意して実戦で学べるようにしてほしかった。
PPはどんどん減っていくし、H&Mもどんどん減っていくし、どうしていいのか全く分からない、とにかく混乱の極みである。まともに索敵できるのは特殊部隊だけだが、特殊部隊は異常に高いし、どうしたものか。いやはや。
This game actually seems to represent that effects of not only combat, but the effects that occur do to not working with the people of the country.

A unique asymmetrical wargame that's about logistics, counter-insurgency, and nationbuilding rather than conventional combat. The levels and units are well designed. There is not too much memorization or tedious micromanagement, which IMO typically plague the genre.
Years passed, the war was ended, but reported bugs remain the same. Dear developers, i will never buy your games again.

SOLID GAME
I was as surprised as you probably are.
Very RNG, very map dependent (what kind of map you roll) - but if you get a map you don't like, you can just restart and reroll, no problem.
On Regular, AI is challenging, and while at start you will be building water towers ("water works" in game) to get Political
Points to be able to afford your units, and delivering UN supplies to make the villages like you more (and like enemy less)...
...very soon militia will spam mines ("IED") all over the place, and engage your Husky anti-mine vehicles, talibs will engage your helicopters with AAA missiles, and villages will fly the red (opium - militia) or white (talib) flags which show you their allegiance.
Solid, challenging game - and this is from a guy who HATES beer and pretzel games, and loves monster grognard "no life" like War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition.
Very nice game with different aspects of War ... not all ot them but some.
