[h1]A Fast, Addictive Platformer That’s Hard to Put Down[/h1]

I didn’t expect Action Henk to grab me this much, but once I got into the flow, it became one of those “just one more run” kind of games. At first glance, it looks like a simple 2D platformer, but it’s actually all about speed, momentum, and mastering levels down to the smallest detail.

The core gameplay is super satisfying. You run, jump, and slide your way through levels as fast as possible, trying to beat your previous times or hit medal targets. The controls are simple, but getting the perfect run takes skill. Timing your jumps, maintaining momentum, and finding shortcuts becomes almost like a rhythm. It reminds me a bit of speedrunning games where every second counts, and once you start chasing better times, it gets addictive fast.

What really kept me hooked is how replayable it is. Levels are short, restarts are instant, and there’s always a better route or a cleaner run to chase. Competing against ghost times or your own records gives it that constant “improve yourself” loop. It’s one of those games where you jump in for 10 minutes and suddenly an hour is gone.

There’s also a decent amount of content. You’ve got a lot of levels, different environments, unlockable characters, and even a level editor, which adds extra longevity. The variety doesn’t completely change how the game plays, but it helps keep things fresh enough.

That said, it’s not perfect. The gameplay can lean heavily into trial-and-error, especially on harder levels. Sometimes it feels less about skill and more about memorizing exactly when to jump or slide. If you don’t enjoy repeating levels over and over to shave off milliseconds, it can get frustrating.

Visually, it’s bright and colorful with a toy-like aesthetic that fits the game really well. It’s not super detailed, but it’s clean and easy to read, which matters a lot for a fast-paced platformer. The soundtrack is actually pretty solid too, energetic enough to match the speed, without getting annoying.

Overall, I had a really good time with it. It’s not trying to be anything complex, it just focuses on doing one thing really well. If you’re into fast platformers or speedrunning-style gameplay, it’s definitely worth it. If not, it might feel repetitive after a while.

Action Henk is a super simple runner/platformer that I mostly kept around because I thought my kids might enjoy it. The problem is, there just is not much to it. Even they lose interest pretty fast because the gameplay feels repetitive and shallow after a short time.

It is not broken, and it has a bit of charm, but it never really develops into anything more interesting than a basic time-trial runner. If you are really into this kind of game, there are better and more engaging options on Steam.

Not terrible, just too simple to hold attention for long.

Action Henk, un jeu que j'avais eu sur Xbox 360 et que je n'avais jamais terminé à cause de sa difficulté. Pourtant, j'avais saigné les Trials HD et Evolution, Super Meat Boy et autres plateformeurs de l'époque.

Action Henk est une ode aux années 90, que ça soit dans son style et ses {nombreuses} références. On suit un héros qui a passé la quarantaine, Henk, qui doit courir pour reprouver à tous qu'il est le plus grand {et sauver le monde} en glissant sur son cul. Un pitch très sympathique, auquel je ne peux que reprocher, de ne pas plus utiliser de mise en scène / cinématiques pour le rendre plus drôle.

Mais au final, ce qui fait sa force principale, c'est son gameplay. Sur ce point, le jeu est assez impitoyable. Si le premier monde est simple, dès le 3ème, ça va se corser sec et ça ne fera qu'augmenter drastiquement. J'ai rarement vu un jeu où une micro-erreur peut autant vous coûter sur une run. C'est Trackmania tier. Il faut s'accrocher pour le finir et encore plus pour le maîtriser. Les techniques les plus avancées, demandent d'avoir une excellente exécution, mais aussi de faire des mouvements contre-intuitifs.

Là où le jeu m'a posé problème, c'est au niveau technique. Une caméra capricieuse, mais surtout pas mal de lags sur les derniers niveaux, au point où la dernière course, la plus difficile du jeu, est ruinée 1 fois sur 2 ou 3 par des lags. Un peu gênant pour un jeu si "vieux". Le jeu est généreux cela dit, avec 5 niveaux classique, 1 course et 1 niveau spécial par monde, pour un total de 11 mondes, 5 ou 6 persos avec plusieurs costumes.

Bref, si vous avez la peau dure et que vous cherchez du challenge, Action Henk est fait pour vous. Dans le cas contraire, il vaut mieux éviter ce jeu. Il mérite vraiment une suite et j'espère qu'on aura droit à un "Action Henk : Back to Action" un jour.

Truly a hidden gem in my opinion. This game takes the simple concepts of time trials and momentum control and turns them into one of the most fun platformers I've ever played.

It feels great to control once you get used to it, and grinding out runs for a fast time never feels like a hassle with a one-button restart and (mostly) shorter levels.

If speedy fluid platformers are your kinda game I 100% recommend it.

If you like trial runners, its a decent one. Runs well, decent maps, easy level restarts. Not too inventive or creative but its also not my ideal genre. Feels like it would be a mobile game or something. If you like this type of game, give it a try when its on sale. $15 is absurd for it though, wait for $5 or so.

I think I received this as part of a humble bundle or maybe I took a chance on it on a steam sale.
It quickly surprised me with it's fun and addictive game play, reminding me of UniRally/uniracer the old snes classic and has a little micro-machines dna in there too. the difficulty curve is really optimised and there's something to be gained by replaying old levels and learning the timing of each. It can occasionally be frustrating in the later game when jumps have to be timed 99% perfectly or you have to restart the whole map.
I despise the exaggerated grotesque character art style and find it unfunny and not interesting, relying on tropes and stereotypes.|
They could have definitely taken a more stylised approach and looked at real world action figures for inspiration for instance i've never seen a poseable action figure with screws.
I think they could have given unique power-ups to each character, like a batman style glider action figures or teenage mutant ninja turtle style pizza launching action figures.
I do love the movie posters, references and easter eggs throughout the game as they definitely work to sell the idea.

solid 7/10 game , extra fun if you can convince your friends to learn the controls and nuances of gameplay for multiplayer .

Boy oh boy, where has this been my whole life and why are there not a thousand of these. Henk caught me totally off guard. I got this in a humble bundle and though it was going to be a silly action figure game. Instead I was rewarded with a very addictive course racing game with tight controls. Its incredibly rewarding getting gold and even more if you can get a rainbow, the tracks are mostly good and the gameplay is solid, highly recommend as a great way to burn some time.

Começa bem, mas desanda rapidamente. Um runner com temática de brinquedos e bastante levels, o problema é que pra liberar os levels você é obrigado a não só completar os levels anteriores, mas conseguir medalhes de prata em alguns e posteriormente de ouro (o jogo pede X medalhas pra liberar o avanço) fazendo com que esse jogo seja bem chato pra quem não é fissurado em runner e é mais casual como eu, digo isso porque os levels são bem difíceis e se você cometar um erro milimétrico você já perdeu o meio segundo que precisava pra completar a medalha, me atrevo a dizer que pra terminar alguns levels com medalhe de ouro você é obrigado a seguir uma coreográfica especifica quase que programada.
Desafio é bom, mas runners melhores oferecem pelo menos uma chance pra terminar a campanha sem te obrigar a ser mestre no jogo ou pelo menos existe possibilidades diferentes de você terminar um desafio, somado tudo isso o multy do jogo está obviamente morto.

It starts off well, but quickly goes downhill. A toy-themed runner with a lot of levels. The problem is that to unlock the levels you are forced to not only complete the previous levels, but also get silver medals in some and later gold medals (the game asks for X medals to unlock the advancement). This makes this game quite boring for those who are not crazy about runners and are more casual like me. I say this because the levels are very difficult and if you make a millimeter mistake you have already lost the half second you needed to complete the medal. I dare say that to finish some levels with a gold medal you are forced to follow a specific, almost programmed choreography.
Challenge is good, but better runners offer at least a chance to finish the campaign without forcing you to be a master of the game, or at least there are different possibilities for you to finish a challenge. Adding all this together, the game's multitasking is obviously dead.

Didn't think I would like this game that much, but after a little bit it really clicked. I ended up getting all the achievements. It was frustrating and rewarding at the same time. Not for everyone, but if you're into speed platformers or are interested in getting into them this worked as my gateway.

Hra "AKČNÍ HENK" je plošinovka na čas. Zprvu si Henk (Henk, ne Hank!) vystačí s během, skoky a sklouznutím. V dalších levelech využije např. i přísavkové lano. Pro odemknutí některých levelů a témat levelů je nutné dosáhnout určitého počtu medailí. Pro každý level je určen ČAS k pokoření na bronzovou, stříbrnou a zlatou MEDAILI. Hráč si může vybrat jaký STÍN výkonu chce vidět pro porovnání, takže lze okoukat nějaké finty. Samozřejmostí je ŽEBŘÍČEK hráčů. V každém tématu je poslední level, který odemyká nového hrdinu. Namísto Henka lze tedy hrát i za jiné POSTAVIČKY.

This is a game I'd once owned many years ago on Steam, and to be able to re-experience it today is a wonderful feeling.

Action Henk is an amazingly designed platformer game with tight controls and a really creative feel that takes the imagination of action figures to a really fun degree. Every level environment and detail on the character models are handled with the utmost care, and it all comes packaged within a fun, action-packed game.

It's a real damn shame though, that this game has been left on the wayside all these years later, because I could see this game fit perfectly within the libraries of Nintendo Switch and Playstation owners. I have my doubts that the devs would ever consider such an endeavor, but I think it would be a really nice addition should it be looked at.

Overall this is a wonderful game that's aged well among the sea of mediocrity that is the current gaming scene.

Action Henk doesn't exactly look like a fast action hero.
It is quite fat and looks unwashed. Still, he shoots through the levels like a cross between Sonic and Mario.
The game is all about speed. It is typically a game that is easy to pick up, but that you have to invest time in to get really good.

I didn't have the joy of playing Sonic growing up, but from what I hear this is rather reminiscent of the old school Sonic games in that building and maintaining momentum is the all-encompassing drive of every move you make.

You will get to the point of doing dozens or even hundreds of runs to bump your time down by a couple hundredths of a second, but when you do get that faster time it is all worth it. I've spent my share of time in the top 1% for most of the tracks, and pick up the game every 6-12 months to revisit the tracks I could do better in to try to get back up there again.

There is no end to replayability because you can always try to beat your own ghost.

The one thing I wish existed (and it may now as I haven't played in a couple months) is that I wish there was a posted fastest possible time. We know what the fastest any player has completed a given course is, and there's always the wonder of whether it's even possible to beat the current champ.

As far as the racing genre goes, I can easily say this game is a breath of fresh air, I am pleasantly surprised.
The levels get difficult quite fast and if you want to get medals/ be a completionist then you've got to prepare for repetition, memorizing every hump in every level and practicing. There's not much story to speak of, only different maps. The B rating movie of the 90s vibe is not the main attraction of this game though, the gameplay is.

There aren't many different mechanics or controls to speak about which makes Action Henk an example of easy to learn, difficult to master.
Unfortunately the in-game multiplayer match queue is dead, nobody plays that.
Maybe there's still Discord communities somewhere for anyone who cares enough to get involved, don't quote me on it though because I haven't researched that aspect.

Not the game I'd grind to get flawless at, I had this from bundles, nonetheless it's a solid, entertaining challenge and the physics of it all feel just right.

One of the best games I have played.

1st + = Its easy to learn
(Run = ->| jump = ↑/space| butt-slide = ↓ | There is also a Hook which you will learn in-game)

2nd + = Great graphics

3rd + = Characters are well designed as well as the skins (versions of the character)

4th + = Really fun game for 2d platformers/ 3d platformers / racing game fans

5th +/- = The build-mode is good, but you don't really know what to do when starting at first

1st -/+ (you can) = You can get really frustrated when you play the game (skill training helps)

Comeback Tour.

Story:

You play as Henk. A toy of the year action figure, you were once a shredded figure that has since let himself go a bit. However after your toy of the year award gets stolen by a rival figurine, you get back into the action to get your award back from your rivals hands.

There's not much of a story here, you get a basic set up and you're on your way to stop him through a bunch of different levels and I won't nag on it that much considering this is one of those games that put gameplay above everything else and the set up works wonders and I did quite like it.

Graphics:

I'm a big fan of games that put you in the shoes of a toy and let you loose in a large world resembling a room, especially that of a kids. Action Henk nails this and has some genuinely great set pieces. From the very beginning when you're in a child's bedroom there's a ton of cool levels that use items like skateboards to construct arenas, etc and later worlds switch up the formula, like a tropical island consumed by lava.

Also there's a few really cool visual gimmicks. For example in some levels you will run past under a bed and the world will dim the lights and you will see a bunch of monsters looking straight at you and there's a few other really cool ones that I don't want to spoil here. They don't even do anything for the gameplay, they're just there to make each level look interesting and I have to give props for the design.

Audio:

I'll come out and say it and that is that Action Henk legit has a genuinely great soundtrack. From the starting tracks to the ones you hear in the final levels in the game you're hit with a bunch of high tempo tracks that go along the incredibly fast pace of the game even more excited and no matter how hard things got, the soundtrack is what kept me going.

The other sound effects are also pretty decent. I loved the voice acting for Henk. There's not much of voice lines, but I did like him commenting once in a while and shouting, it just added to the experience overall. There's not really much to talk about here, as all there is left is jumping noises and other minor sound effects like lava burst, it's all pretty good.

Gameplay:

Action Henk is best described as a platformer where you have to keep as fast of a momentum as possible and reach the end of the as quick as you possibly can. You're going to run, jump and butt slide your way to victory and the game is an absolute blast from start to finish.

What it boils down to is that you build momentum by running, but sometimes you will reach a slide and you initiate a butt slide which will build up even more momentum and then you jump out of it to keep going even faster and in certain levels it's so incredibly satisfying to have a clean run.

The difficulty is also something I have to mention as it really gets difficult, but it's always gradual. You start off simple enough getting used to the basic and the game, bit by bit increase the difficulty and even has a bonus world which is considered "insane" and that will really put your skills to the test.

Although I really loved the gameplay I do have to say that there's a few of the levels where there are moments that are just designed in a way where you will be getting by just barely. There will be a few ramps in the level where you have to be absolutely pixel perfect otherwise you will lose all momentum and you'll have to go back to the beginning. Levels are short enough that it's that big of a deal, but it's still something that got on my nerves, especially in the final section of the game.

Verdict:

Action Henk is an absolute blast from start to finish. Even when the game got incredibly difficult, I just wanted one more shot to complete that level and I just kept going back. If you really want something fast and addictive, don't wait any further and grab yourself a copy, you won't be disappointed.

+ Tough, but fair challenge
+ Some really cool visuals

Cons:
- A few levels have moments where you have to be perfect, otherwise it's an instant restart

So, realised I have 1100+ games in my Steam library and I was going to die before I played them all.

So thought I'd spend a bit of time on each one, a new one every night and leave a short initial review.

Mindless fun, simple to play, not particularly deep. Graphics are nice and its quite a lot of fun, just not enough to keep me engaged for too long.

I think this cost me much less than £1. Recommended so long as you buy it cheap.

Action Henk é um runner com obstáculos, muito cômico. As fases são difíceis, em alguns momentos o que você precisa é habilidade e em outros é pura sorte, não tem jeito. Mesmo assim, eu não me cansei nenhum pouco de repetir 30 ou 50 vezes a mesma fase.

No jogo solo você tem muitas fases, personagens, itens, para desbloquear, e também alguns "desafios" onde você compete contra outro personagem, e geralmente é ainda mais difícil! Eu não tive a chance de testar o multiplayer, mas parece ser um jogo divertido para jogar com amigos, fiquei tentada.

Graficamente não é o jogo mais bonito do mundo, mas ainda é agradável de olhar. Eu fiquei com vontade de ver um remake ou um Action Henk 2, quem sabe...

I really enjoy this game and its simple yet challenging gameplay. You have to keep the flow throughout the whole track to get a good time or just get across. The difficulty feels just in the right spot and it always seems possible yet very challenging to get the gold medal. The steam workshop addition is really cool and adds so much replayability.
