Across the Grooves is an interactive graphic novel for PC/Mac/Linux, set in a magical-realism universe, where your decisions affect the destiny of Alice, the main character, drastically changing her reality and allowing her to explore alternative destinies by modifying her past.
Alice lives an uneventful life. She’s in a long term relationship, has a stable office job and a nice apartment in the center of Bordeaux. One day, Ulysse, her ex-lover, comes back into her life through an old vinyl record she receives in the mail. When she puts it for a spin on turntable, she is thrown back into her own past, forced to relive old events. When she comes back to the present, her reality has changed. Determined to bring her life back on track, Alice packs up and embarks on a hunt across Europe, following the tracks of Ulysse while trying to uncover the origins of the record. However, her journey gradually turns into a quest of self-discovery as she explores new parallel realities each time she puts the needle in the groove.

Ich habe dieses Spiel wirklich geliebt. Habe mich so lange nach einer tiefgreifenden Story gesehnt und hier wurden meine Erwartungen definitiv erfüllt. Wunderschön, mysteriös, tiefgehend.. bewegend. Ein wahres, erfüllendes, liebevoll gestaltetes Kunstwerk!
剧情比《先知之岛》好，但是美中不足就是没有中文，除了那些专业术语看不懂其他的还是能看懂的，画风和音效也做得很好，希望以后能更新中文。
本作和前作《一意孤行》有关联，但是也就是前面的人物客串而已，没玩过前作玩这部不会受到影响。
就是里面的瘦一点的男性角色感觉脸都是一个脸吗，感觉有点偷懒。
Across the Grooves is the third choice-based visual novel by Nova-box. In this game, you play as Alice, a young woman whose life is turned upside down when she listens to a record that allows her to make changes to her past that will have unforeseen effects on her present.
Alice has a normal life. She lives with her fiancé and works as a banker. That changes one day when she receives a package from her ex-boyfriend Ulysse containing an unmarked record. When Alice listens to the record, she finds herself in a vision of her past. When she comes back to the present, she realizes that as far as the rest of the world is concerned, she and her fiancé have never met. This sets her off on a journey to track down Ulysse, uncover the secrets of the record, and get back to a version of her life similar to the one she left.
For a choice-based game, the story follows a fairly linear track. Most of the choices you make correspond to one or occasionally two of four symbols, and the biggest changes to the game are determined not by specific choices you make, but by how many of specific symbols you've chosen by certain key points of the game. During the game, the only major changes I noticed based on my choices in the moment were whether or not I got to talk to certain characters, or the general tone of certain interactions. Your character’s appearance and some background information change somewhat at different points in the game based on your accumulated symbols so far, but they don’t influence the overall flow of the story in a big way. The biggest changes happen in the epilogue.
My experience with this feels pretty typical of the Nova-box games. The art was beautiful and the music stood out to me more than in the other games. The game doesn't skip dialogue you've already viewed and there are long sections that don't change between playthroughs, so it gets a bit cumbersome to skip to new parts after you've played a couple of times. This was especially true in this one, which felt like it didn't have a lot of hugely story-changing choices in the middle of the game. There are a number of places where you can cut a conversation short, but those choices typically have symbols and might affect the ending you get.
Although the main story doesn’t vary as much as I’d like in a choice-based game, I did enjoy following along with it and figuring out the history of the record along with Alice. It was interesting how a number of the side characters in her life showed up again in multiple versions of her reality, even though she only met them when she started her quest. I didn’t love the romance options in this one. [spoiler] I liked Ulysse and was rooting for Alice to get back to him, but Alan and Patrizia, the other two options, both didn’t connect with me, and in one of my playthroughs it felt like the person Alice was hanging out with at the end of the game was not the person I had been focusing on earlier. It also kinda bugged me that she starts off motivated to get her fiancé back and is just.. okay with losing him pretty quickly no matter what you do, even if you play her so that she isn’t pining for Ulysse or pursuing her other options. Across the Grooves was an interesting visual novel, though it did not branch as much as I would like for a game about the consequences of different choices. The art and music were good and the main story was very compelling. However, I felt like many of the different paths were same-y and playing the game over again felt very repetitive. I liked it a little more than Seer’s Isle but not as much as Along the Edge. 6/10
It's a new kind of visual novel for me but overall, the story was quite boring and not worth multiple play throughs. Bought on the lowest sale still felt overpaid

story game with choice making decision. Top tier quality drawing but the music sometimes is lagging. I just hope the music and be a little more stable during each stage. Love the story. Give me a deep impression and strong feeling after the first walkthrough of this game.
Ce qui frappe en premier lieu, c'est la beauté de chaque plan du jeu. Chacune des illustrations (aquarelles) sont une oeuvre d'art. J'ai été subjugué sur ce point. La deuxième grande qualité du jeu, c'est la qualité de son écriture : ici on ne parle pas seulement français, on utilise un vocabulaire très riche et l'écriture est d'une rare finesse. J'ai apprécié suivre cette histoire et c'est un vrai bonheur que de jouer aux jeux de ce studio, me donnant le sentiment de jouer à "Un livre dont vous êtes le héros", mais avec une histoire mature, pertinente et véritablement intéressante. Gardez cette force d'écriture et cette direction artistique qui vous caractérise et vous différencie des autres jeux, ils sont une orfèvrerie dont vous pouvez être très fiers !
Merveilleux jeu que j'ai dévoré ! Les musiques sont sublimes (le coup des paroles qui changent selon nos choix mais j'en ai la bouche qui tombe !)
Pour ceux qui ont adoré Along the edge, vous allez assurément adorer ce jeu-ci (avec un petit easter egg pour les fans héhé). Personnages attachants, ambiance disquaire, vinyle, vintage ! Petit lexique musical pour les novices comme moi, j'ai beaucoup apprécié !
Encore un 20/20 pour Nova-box !

Another banger from Novabox. Beautiful art. A clever story, with a bit longer runtime than past titles. Music is subjective so i'll just say its well thought out, even if not my cup of tea this time around. If you have enjoyed other Novabox games, or just like a more serious and thought provoking story in your visual novels, i feel like you wont be disappointed.

Visual novel classique dans son principe (beaucoup de dialogues, choix multiples réguliers plus ou moins impactant, images fixes type diapositive, ...) AcrossTheGrooves se démarque par une histoire mature et un style "crayonné" très agréable à l'oeil.
L'histoire nous fera voyager dans plusieurs villes d'Europe, en quête de l'histoire d'un mystérieux disque vinyl, en nous faisant rencontrer différents personnages, plus ou moins bien intentionnés, sur un fond de culture musicale.
Les dialogues sont bien écrits, et il faudra compter 3h pour le premier run, puis une heure par run supplémentaire en accéléré, beaucoup de passages se recoupant et pouvant être passés.
A noter un petit clin d'oeil à AlongTheEdge, leur précédent jeu : on pourra croiser, selon ses choix, certains personnages dans notre aventure ;)
Comme d'habitude avec les jeux narratifs de Nova-box, une très belle immersion de quelques heures dans une autre vie. On se laisse porter par l'histoire avec à la fin l'hésitation entre recommencer pour connaître les différentes fins et l'envie de rester sur cette belle note poétique !

Every scene was beautifully crafted, both artistically and musically! Such an cool story and I can't wait to play more of Nova-box's VN!
This is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. Its music, art style, and gameplay blew me away. I was really surprised by the replay value. I expected it to be more linear, but your choices really seem to impact the path of the game in a big way, and I definitely want to try another playthrough. The game reminded me of Stray Gods, and it immediately sucked me into the story. I am 100 % convinced and will check out the other Nova-Box titles soon!

Comme quoi il est possible de faire quelque chose d'intéressant avec le VN.
L'histoire est assez prenante, avec son lot de choix et conséquence pour une petite re-jouabilité.
Une direction artistique assez belle, avec une bande son magnifique.
Les succès qui ne pompent qu'a la fin de l'aventure, c'est chouette pour l'immersion.
Par contre il semble impossible de refaire un moment précis de l'aventure pour changer des choses, comme peut le faire les derniers jeux du studio Quantic Dream ou l'excellent BROK the InvestiGator et il faudra sans doute se refaire l'intégralité de cette dernière. ;)

One of those games that had me hesitate between yes or no for recommendation - my true feelings lie somewhere in the middle!
But I lean towards recommending, because this is a very unique Visual Novel, the thing about which I loved the most is that it was obviously written by people extremely passionate about music records. There's a lot of knowledge about this (to me) niche interest packed into this story, which I liked - even though I personally am not interested in the technicalities and obscure musicians that any character deems important enough to talk about (sometimes at length!), it charms me to see the passion.
The art is beautiful for scenery or showing entire rooms, but for closeups on the faces of characters I found the art style did not work too well. The visible brushstrokes had me overly focused on how the characters often feel extremely two-dimensional in personality (I can think of one character that felt interesting and extremely well-rounded to me, and sadly only met that character briefly). The story itself was interesting, but the game is not in a hurry to drive it forward, taking its time. It felt slow, but easy to get back into if I took the game back up after putting it down.
All in all, a nice game. I struggle expressing the vibe it truly has, and I don't think personally I am overly fond of the mystery story aspect of it, but I do not regret buying it, for the very unique experience this was.

Selon vos choix, le genre musicale des chansons que vous entendez lors des moments d'écoute du fameux disque évolueront, ainsi que le look d'Alice et sa vie. C'est ambitieux et intéressant.
J'ai bien apprécié le style graphique des décors et des personnages, qui va à l'essentiel sans paraître vide non plus. Certes, les postures des personnages lors des discussions sont limitées, mais c'est clairement un point fort du jeu.
Un beau travail en ce qui concerne la musique : on est assez surpris lors d'un second run d’entendre les mêmes chansons changer de style musical. C'est ambitieux et malin, même si je ne trouve les créations bouleversantes non plus.
L'histoire est un mélange de détails poignants ou d'instants réussis et de moments où l'on sent les rails du scénario nous contraindre ou le gameplay (choisir entre deux actions pour faire grimper les jauges de crânes, éclairs, fleurs et spirale) restreindre nos possibilités et ça, c'est dommage.
De même le poids des choix est en même temps importants pour débloquer d'autres destins mais ne pèse pas vraiment sur la trame de la narration qui demeure la même à plus de 80% lors d'une nouvelle partie.
En bref, je dirais que ce jeu est une esquisse de chef d'oeuvre ambitieuse mais inaboutie, qui s'est arrêtée au milieu du gué. Cela vaut le détour, prenez le en soldes, vivez cette aventure et gardez un œil sur ce studio que je découvre pour ma part.

My first Nova-box game and definitely not my last. The engaging story and gouache art got me hooked. The pensive music fits really well, too.
This is a fantastic interactive game , certainly kept me wanting to keep playing it just to see where it would take me next , i would recommend it to everyone that loves to be engrossed in the Story behind it all .

Played previous Nova Box games and really enjoyed them, especially Along the Edge. Across the Grooves is also a nice visual novel with plenty of interesting twists and outcomes, as well as expected unique art style. One thing that differs from previous titles - characters, i felt like they could have been written better and that there was a lost potential. Other than that, it's a good interactive story about time traveling and life decisions, with some amount of music lore.

It's been a while since I last played a Nova-box narrative game, but these guys have not lost the magic touch. Who and what does Alice become and where will this narratively tangled portion of her life end up? Well that depends on how you play it, so go find out for yourselves!
Brilliantly captivating!
This is a choose your own adventure narrative that actually makes you feel like EVERY choice and EVERY decision is genuinely coming from your heart and TRULY has an impact. There's no perception of making the 'wrong or right choice' and i had no urge to reach for a guide. It felt good, and real and visceral to throw myself into this and trust my own decision making. This is a rare thing to experience when playing games like this. Usually options are suggestive, loaded and/or obvious. here it truly felt like they said, no matter your choice, no matter the ending, there is no wrong. Just a difference outcome.
I'm usually a bit of a completionist and if i can go back and get achievements i will scurry along and do so. but with this game. i don't feel the need or urge to do so. i feel complete in playing this game. Sure i could go back and try different narratives and realms and outcomes. But I truly feel like i lived this story and found a satisfying end for myself.
Playing this game felt good. And that's not something every game can do inherently.
Take a step inside the Grooves of this narrative and let yourself really just live inside this game. You won't regret it.
The art is beautiful. VERY beautiful actually. The story is very unique and puts music front and center of the Visual Novel's story. I like that choices will effect the music and so on and so forth. The sound design is pretty damn GREAT too, with an almost ASMR quality to it. Very lush, full, and pleasing to the ears. Which is more than I can say about the original soundtrack. The music itself is not my cup of tea, but that's not the problem. The mixing and production of the music is also top-tier, but again that's not the problem. The issue is the vocal tracks, which play a major role in not just the game, but in the story itself. The vocalist has ZERO TALENT. Genuinely AWFUL NOISE coming out of that mouth! A mouth that would be far, FAR better off bolted shut. The vocalist's voice sounds like somebody with severe COPD improvising lyrics in real-time, and purposely failing at hitting every single note each song has to offer. She has a harsh ,dry, raspy smoker voice. Word pronunciation is also completely botched and even slurred, sounding like she threw back one too many Old Fashioneds for one morning. But that's a whole different situation altogether. Since the music and story are so fused together, it sometimes sounded like the vocalist was "singing" totally different lyrics. And speaking of which, these lyrics are perplexing, to say the least. They're poorly written, they don't rhyme, and they don't have any rhythm or structure. There's not even a chorus in any of the vocal tracks! Strange because the actual story is well written, but the lyrics to the vocal songs are so bad. The game does offer a very unique story and it's worth taking a look at. But the absolutely TERRIBLE vocal tracks completely RUIN many of the most important moments. This game would've gotten a much higher score from me if they just made the soundtrack instrumental-only, and give the vocalist's char-broiled lungs a break.
At least give this VN one shot. The story is unique enough to warrant the play through. Perhaps muting the game when the vocal tracks play will also be a help with it. Again, the ART is absolutely incredible which is worth the price of admission alone.
Gorgeous art and an interesting enough story that I played through it twice to see scenes that I missed the first time. Our choices don't really matter though, they're purely cosmetic and the story is basically the same with different art. Still worth checking out though.

I picked this up a while back because some Youtube channel had put it on my radar. I don't remember if I got it on sale or in a bundle from Fanatical. But either way, I kind of just ignored it in my collection for a while.
I recently fired it up and at first, during what I guess you might call the prologue, I got a little worried it was going to be some pertinacious commentary on relationships. But no, it's not like that at all. I'm only now starting chapter two and I'm pretty well sucked in. It could end up having a pertinacious message in the end, hard to know at this point. But as long as the journey their is interesting I'm ok with that.
Something that may be off putting to folks is it likes to throw semi obscure things and terminology at you, then give you an audio que that it has done so, and add it to the lexicon for you to look up. While that may be annoying to some, it will be appreciated by others. And it's not overly intrusive. It can easily be ignored.
I'm very much digging the kind of sketchy comic book art style with an almost watercolor aesthetic. And so far the music has been pretty good. I'm probably going to pick up the sound track soon. Now, it promises to be a bit of a slow burn, but not a mundane one up it's own backside as I was fearing as I went through the opening. I did notice that it seems like it will sometimes railroad you. Early on I was presented with a choice and after I chose it said something acknowledging my choice but then Alice, the character the story's perspective is from, said I can't do that and does the other thing anyway.
Granted, I'm not sure how much that will happen, to be fair, if it had done what I told it too, there would be no story. But then why give me the illusion of choice in that moment if the story hinges on my making a particular one? On the flip side, I'm not sure how much I really care. I guess if it happens a lot, then it might as well have been a kinetic novel instead. But either way, in my mind it wasn't that big of a deal, just thought it was worth mentioning, and it's kind of impossible to know how much that is going to happen, it was just the once so far, but I've got several chapters to go before it's over.
I say it's worth checking out if you like visual novels generally.
Nova-box has once again made me appreciate visual novels, it was beautiful, thrilling and sad. Not enough to replace Along the Edge as my top visual-novel but good enough to make me think about the story a lot and this whole time I felt like I had the power to control my destiny.

It took me a minute to warm up to this one, but once I figured out the wavelength it was operating on, I found it to be a fun little sci fi yarn. A great way to spend an evening.
Recommended game. Very good storyline, good atmosphere and music, excellent background and glossary and beautiful artwork. It can give about 4 hours of enjoyable gameplay, and it is very interesting to play again to discover other ramifications as the story is greatly enriched, and also some situations have some unexpected surprises. :)
What I love:
Art style. At the very least it's something different. Beautifully drawn.
Sound. Background sounds are some of the best I've ever heard.
Feelings. Although I can't explain a lot of what's going on in the game it always made me feel something. It might have even help me make an important life decision of my own.
What I don't like.
It's not voiced. As someone who like's visual novels partly because of a difficulty focusing, fully voiced visuals are superior.
Plot. The plot goes in all kinds of directions and I couldn't explain it to you if I wanted to. On one hand I would like to replay to understand it better but at the same time I don't want to ruin the experience I've had, often these things are best left the way they are.
Middle ground
Choices. It certainly feels like the story could have gone in many different directions depending on my choices. I cannot confirm nor deny this however since I've only played once.

Ich denke der Artstil sind nicht jedermanns Sache auch die Geschichte selbst hat eine eher träge Dynamik, auch wenn der Fokus der Geschichte recht spannend sein kann. Man muss sich schon drauf ein lassen.
Across the Grooves is a beautiful and stylish narrative game which sets a pensive mood with its writing and music. The bespoke art alone is worth it, with each scene lovingly drawn to bring this story to life. If you're a fan of magical realism, of stories that gently pull you along as you unravel their mysteries, of exploring Europe and the people who live in it, you shouldn't pass up this game.

Interesting 2ish hour visual novel.
Hrrmm, if I could give this netural recommendation, I'd probably pick that instead. Note, I am reviewing this after a single playthrough and apparently, there are multiple endings and every choice leads to different outcomes. I admit that I've not seen everything but I've seen enough to give thoughts - and if the devs wanted to encourage multiple playthroughs they could at least give us the option to speedthrough text I've already seen
I feel like this game has a really cool premise and then just completely squanders it, resulting in something that feels extremely shallow. tldr - your ex sends you a record that changes your past when you listen to it. You then set out to find your ex, going from country to country trying to track them down. Okay so something that's pretty prominent, especially in chapters 2 and 3, is that characters have conversations where they just keep name dropping famous bands and famous songs at each other, over and over. But yeah, it took me just under three hours to complete playthrough and I felt like the "bad guys" and a few other areas felt underdeveloped
A lot of the choices kinda feel like they're there for the sake of choices. What I mean by this is, the game is often like "okay you can ask this person question A or question B" but why can't I ask them about both things? Plus, a lot of the time, you'll ask question A, have dialogue, then automatically ask question B. If the character were in a rush then it'd make sense if she only had time to ask one question, but this isn't really conveyed by the rest of the story

This visual novel is certainly an interesting 'slice of life', but it is quite different from Along the Edge. I have only done one completion so far, though I intend to revisit it soon, probably better to make another run shortly after a first. Because to be fair, unlike 'Along the Edge', where it is a little more clear which answers will be for which type of answering rationale, there is perhaps a little more guess work with this VN, though that is totally fine, if anything it more reinforces a more 'answer how you feel', though the downside is you might not fully remember which choice you made on a next run (I guess if you have a great memory you probably could), so you might end up choosing the same choice again. But, that's sort of small thing.
Overall story is very solid, it's on par with what I had experienced writing wise in "Along the Edge", though the type of magical realism is vastly different to the dreams in Edge. But I like the fact that the writer can take a completely different topic and somehow mesh characters together in the same universe, but it still seem believable.
Though I do know a bit about music, I admit that only a few names registered, though I did like the fact that there's a little index that will explain a few musical references you may not get, which...is kinda neat for a VN. I will also never 'hear' a Zepplin album the same way again, even though none of their songs are in this, but who would have thought that somehow such references would be a bit of a focal point, though it's used more as a side story. Also, the way the music refrains decisions reminds me greatly of what was attempted in Karmaflow, as far as using narration to guide the reader (or audience) as to what's happening in the story, but leaving the decision in your hands. I admit, I don't have a wealth of knowledge on French inspired music or what's popular over there, but the selection is nice for the mood, but it may or may not be your cup of tea. I certainly think French people would probably get more of the jokes, but seeing some French cinema myself I did catch a few tropes that made me laugh, but did not necessarily seem out of place.
I think the VN only suffered a little from two things. One, primarily a missed opportunity of maybe dressing the character up a bit, there were several times the character went clothes shopping but we were not really given any choice there. Maybe if I hadn't already played "Along the Edge" I wouldn't have almost expected it, and while the character can go through different looks, we as the reader, or interact-or do not get much say so in this department.Obviously it's not more important than the story, but I don't know sometimes little interactions can help flesh out a character a little more. There are also parts where coffee is mentioned, maybe even something as small as choosing a brand or how someone takes coffee, or even if they don't like it (which probably would be non-French I know)...there were little areas where I could have seen a few more choices that the MC could have taken, just to make it feel a tad more interaction.
Also, two I wasn't overly thrilled by Ulyssee character, the other two males seemed way more interesting than him, on my run through I was a little more interested in the back story of Alan or even the original boyfriend (even though I haven't went through all the endings I somehow 'doubt' Jean-Baptiste is talked about as a possible ending), even though it's clear the VN favors Ulyssee or Alan.I think another reviewer wrote if we wanted to go back to the start (which might have missed the point about butterfly effects), but assuming one of those endings was not included, I agree I might have enjoyed an option to put things right. I just think the original boyfriend's look and back story could have been a little more interesting if the story was suppose to be favored to him. The only reason I chose him, is because his ending choice relies heavily on guilt, rather than at least with Alan, he just wants to be by your side, which truthfully is the way I'd rather a partner be. I realize these sorts of choices are very subjective, but I also liked the other people in Alan's life a little more than the ones in Ulyssee's (also seemed wrong that he made a choice in his time line that caused you to alter, but in fairness, we also dropped the ball, so we had to rewind to a point just to make sure there was a reality Ulysee was...well you know if you finished it.
I was still happy with the overall ending, it made sense and mostly tied up loose ends, though there did seem some unfinished things, like...yeah you could choose about the record, but the story did not say what happened to Eve or her 'group'. I can only assume she would find another pressing, or even another source for the 'groove' but none of this was hinted by the end, which did bother me a little because such an elaborate set up with the back story of the group was a main issue and one of the focal decisions you make. So, not hearing anything about them seemed kinda weird.I liked the slight cameos of one of the past characters, and the cross over did make sense (what's weird about this scene, is if you don't agree to meet Frank, yeah the world goes on, but there's a point your character says, well I can always talk to him later. Actually, no you can't because whether he meets you for drinks or not, he was going home anyway, so that literally was the only opportunity to talk with him and find out a little more about his headspace). Though, if you missed it, just remember to try it out on another play through, it's really just a small filler to the "Along the Edge" story.I haven't read "Seer" yet, but I didn't see any reference to that in this material that I could tell.
Graphic wise it's still interesting, but perhaps not fully as realized as "Along the Edge", but there are a few interesting back grounds, I just prefer AtE artwork a little more. Story wise this one seemed a tad longer, whereas I had about 5 hrs with AtE, and about 9 (maybe give or take a 30-45 min. idle but I was mostly reading most of that time. Ch. 4 seemed a little longer than the other chapters. I do wish the epilogue had of been a bit longer with mention about what happened to Eve or the cult members, even if it was some spare sentences, or maybe just a vague graphic hint. I felt like not enough seeding was done to wrap up the end, but otherwise a very solid story,there were a few typos, but not many, there was one French word that was not translated well, so I could only guess (in relation to a style of street. But yes, the writing and art style was more or less what I expected. It's certainly good for a 2nd run through, though after 2 or 3 times for achievements I can't imagine you'd gleam much more after 2 reads.
But I think this is another, must read for visual novel fans. I do think I was left glad that that there was some resolution for the MC, assuming the iron-rose doesn't figure out a way to undo anything, though since it's all personal for each person, I'm not sure how they'd manage that. But at least for now, maybe we can feel a little better, and next time I play a vinyl (well if I ever do again lol), I might be wondering...'what's gonna happen' lol.
I was going to briefly mention the choice system, but I'm not sure I have a 100% accurate on what 'emotion' each icon conveys, though I've seemed to figure out the flower tends to be more positive, the skull tends to be worse choices, I think the first two are a little harder to figure out, I think the spiral tends to be inquisitive but maybe more 'open' while the lightning bolt tends to be more curt or brazen maybe, unlike AtE in which most of the choices lined up with the symbol, this VN can be hard to guess which response might lead to these options. But if u only want one read through this may not matter to you as much,I still recommend 2 reads.
Nova-box delivering another great mystery VN with a lot of improvements from Along the Edge this time focused on music theme with encyclopedia for people who are not really that deep in music industry.
As always - a lot of gorgeous art, choices, great cast of characters and writing quality.

Too few songs; even fewer tunes.
This game has a really interesting and suspenseful story, and very beautiful art. Very similar mechanics to Along the Edge, but the game was more polished. I have a few things negative things to say about the game play, but found the game to be highly enjoyable regardless, so overall the pros overshadow the cons.
Cons - I played through several times. You can hold down the space bar to fast forward, but I'm not sure if there was a skip option? Maybe there was and maybe not. Choices do matter some, but I wish it mattered more, like it did in Along the Edge. Mild spoiler, [spoiler] the general ending is somewhat similar no matter what you choose. The person you end up with is different, your job is different depending on your choices, and there's two special scenes that can be unlocked, but otherwise the endings felt very similar [/spoiler]. Some of the gameplay was good concept, but not the best execution (but not poor execution either, just meh). Your choices influence your wardrobe and hair style.
Mild spoiler - this is the personality system. [spoiler] You choose between hard vs soft personality, and focus on present vs focus on the past. So there's 4 major looks: retro edgy, retro soft, modern edgy, modern soft. [/spoiler] I wish they picked different personality traits, but it's not that big of a deal. I wish that these style changes didn't happen so late in the game; it would have been nice to have a wardrobe makeover early on.
J’ai acheté Across The Grooves (ATG) parce que j’avais beaucoup apprécié les deux autres titres du même genre de Nova-Box et j’ai, une fois encore, été conquis. Peut-être un peu plus que conquis parce que ATG fait évoluer le personnage dans un univers qui m’est cher et très familier. Nous incarnons Alice qui va passer d’une vie à l’autre par un prétexte fantastique solidement étayé (et documenté, bravo pour le lexique !) par les auteurs pour s’interroger sur elle-même et la pertinence de ses choix… de vie.
Pour les détails, je dirais que mon cœur balance entre les évaluations de Calypso et Loutre Perfide. C’est affreux mais les deux ont des arguments massue dans lesquels je me retrouve.
Comme La Loutre, j’ai trouvé la réalisation très réussie sauf… les chansons complètement banales (Calypso). Je n’ai joué le jeu qu’une fois en toute honnêteté, les choix sont limités t il semble, en effet, que retourner à sa « vie d’avant » ne soit pas envisageable.
Autre grief : encore une fois, comme pour Along The Edge, certains choix doivent être faits sans qu'on puisse en juger la pertinence parce qu'on ne connaît pas le passé du personnage, il faut un peu le jouer au ressenti, ce qui peut, heureusement, avoir son intérêt aussi et motiver de nouvelles tentatives avec de nouveaux choix.
Un truc abominable : un personnage anglais du jeu boit le thé dans un mug ! Sérieusement ?
J’en termine avec la touche finale sans laquelle je ne peux conclure mes évaluations : dans ATG, le nombre de fautes de français approche zéro et le style est plus que correct. Ça change des commentaires télévisuels des compétitions de jeu de balle au pied…

这是我玩的第二个Nova-box的游戏，seers isle虽然买了但是没玩噗，但是along the edge我是很喜欢的，看其它评测说这个游戏是同一世界观，预告的元素也成功吸引了我的眼球，所以就买了。不得不说，没有中文确实算比较困扰的一点，英文阅读还是没有母语来得流畅┭┮﹏┭┮想知道为什么seers isle和这作都没有中文了，明明along the edge是有的，唔，不管怎样，我们呢，进入正题吧。

同along the edge有不小的区别，前作的画风我就很喜欢了，这个画风我说实话更喜欢。

so，音乐、音效很棒，预览里的歌在这里有很多根据选择进行的变化，很棒，音效比起along the edge来说体感是有很大进步的，哈哈，就是不知道时间过去这么久感觉得准不准确。语音方面我在前作也是建议过了，不过并没有添加，我仍然还是觉得配音是个比较重要的东西，可供开关最好，而且在几年前我是作为建议的要素，现在时代变了（？），我觉得得作为缺点了。

i really recommend this game. the story is great and the high amount of artworks is just amazing.
i also really appreciate how much attention to detail the game has in other parts like the background noise.
only thing i missed during my playthrough was the ability to blend out the ui in order to look at the artworks like you can do in a lot of other VNs with middle mouse button

Nice story with interesting vinyl-nerd flavour and great art as usual for this studio.
I was gifted this game by a dear friend of mine for Christmas, and only recently managed to play it all the way through.
It is such a breath-taking experience, in the sense that you don't lose. You make a series of choices that defines your story within a larger arc, and you leave satisfied.
It has a beautiful soundtrack and artstyle, and a good amount of replayability as choices influence the outcomes and scenarios you face, as well as who your character becomes. (This last statement will make more sense once you have played the game through at least once).
I am looking forward to playing the other games the devs have made, as I've heard they are more of the same "choose your path and enjoy it" type.
Nova-box has found a pretty good recipe and is perfecting it with every new release. While I think I preferred the setting and themes of Seers Isle, the mechanical aspects of how the story is constructed and delivered seem to be further refined this time around.
There is much to like about this visual novel, from the art to the uncommon (especially in videogames) setting and story, including fun deviations from expectations when it comes to some more cliché elements (to put it in a vague, non-spoilery way: more benevolence than might have been found under someone else's pen).
Only two complaints: Le French Accent (and grammar) was a bit cringey in the songs, if perhaps authentic to the setting. And so much namedropping of bands and records and stuff, though I guess it is also true to some of the people you'd meet in these circumstances.

It's a VN that took me less than 3 hours for one playthrough. It has nice artwork and the music is okay. I'm not sure the choices really matter and what I mean by that is that I was never faced with a question with a true moral dilemma. The choices are more like should I go left or should I go right. So you make a choice and live with the pre-determined outcome.
It's nicely written story, but it is lacking depth. The characters are one-dimensional for the most part. The story is weird, but it doesn't really have any serious questions about the topic matter of time travel and changing the past. Stuff just seems to happen. Again, it's not a bad supernatural VN, it's just not great. I'm not sure it's worth it at the normal price.
This is a very tepid recommendation if you enjoy VNs. There are much worse VNs on Steam and this is very similar to Along the Edge if you liked that one from this same developer. I think the story in Along the Edge was more gripping, but the artwork / music is better in this one.
Not my favorite game by Nova-box. I thought the premise sounded interesting, and at first it was, but it quickly grew obvious that Alice has her own motivations regardless of your choices for her. For example, from the moment the game started, I wanted to help her get her life back: cushy job, handsome fiance', <spoiler> but there is no ending in the game for that. I played and played, getting several endings, until I realized that there is no way to have Alice end up returning to her previous life. Never does she indicate she was unhappy--she just seems to forget about the man she was engaged to in her quest to find her elusive ex. </spoiler> It just seems like a huge oversight to leave this path out.
For a game about music, I didn't think the songs were very good. I wanted to like the music better, especially since it changes depending on how Alice looks. However, it felt like the tune and the vocals were not in-sync--like they were playing two different songs. As a result the songs aren't very catchy at best, and annoying at worst. Because of the accents of the singers, I wondered if the songs wouldn't have been better in their native language, so we could hear them as originally intended, but I couldn't find an option to do that.
I'd recommend any of their other games, but not this one.
Bravo ! j'ai adoré et j'ai été complètement emporté par l'aventure d'alice. Je n'avais pas deviné la fin et c'est avec un stress certain que j'ai fait mes derniers choix. J'aime ma fin et j'imagine qu'il en a beaucoup d'autre. J'adore la musique, les dessins, le scénario. J'ai découvert ce jeu sur un stream et des premières minutes, j'ai su que je devrais acheté et jouer ce jeu pour faire mes propres choix . Quelle histoire ! Ca merite d'etre adpaté en film ou telefilm. Bravo ! C'est le type de scenario et de jeu que j'aurais aimé pouvoir faire .
Across the Grooves is a beautifully drawn and written supernatural VN, just like previous entries from the developer Nova-box. This time, the story revolves around a Parisian banker named Alice and a mysterious record she receives one day from an ex. The record sounds different every time it's listened and, to a limited extent, has the power to change history. The story is accompanied by a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack and is full of references to the last several decades of western musical history.

oyun çok underrated kalmış... ne kadar sattı bilmiyorum ama 45 incelemesi var görünüyor.
Başlangıcı çok hızlı ve heyecanlı oldu müziklerini aşırı beğendim. Konusu oldukça ilginç. Paralel gerçeklikler üzerinden gitmişler. 2.5 saat oynadım ama 5-7 saat hissiyatı verdi. Çizimler çok hoştu özenilmiş. Her şey seçimlere göre ilerliyor ve bir sürü kez kritik kararlarla baş başa kalıyorsunuz. Artık nasıl bir yol çizeceğiniz size kalmış. Ortalara doğru biraz sıktı ama son kısımlarda iyice heyecanlandırdı.

Ich habe bereits die vorherigen Werke von Nova-box gespielt, und wurde auch dieses mal nicht enttäuscht.
Auch wenn mein Favorit Seers Isle bleibt, ist Across the Grooves so ein wunderschönes aussagekräftiges Spiel. Wobei der Artstyle wie immer einfach nur so verdammt fantastisch ist. Und auch der Soundtrack, und vor allem die Lieder, sind einfach nur atemberaubend.
Wobei die Story, wie in den vorherigen Spielen, durch Entscheidungen zu ändern ist. Und man manchmal etwas hin und her gerissen ist mit eben jenen Entscheidungen. Zudem das Spiel einem damit auf eine wahrlich interessante Reise führt, die ich wirklich genossen habe. :D

Tres bonne histoire plein de suspense, personnages attachants superbes bande son (musique ainsi que bruitage immersif).
L'intrigue nous tient en haleine nous incitant a me recommencer plusieurs fois.
Bref je le recommande à chacun voulant voyager dans un univers mélangeant l'univers du rock / hippie, vie urbaine européenne ainsi qu'un poil de fantaisie

c) discussões sobre Sleater-Kinney
d) paralelos com Infinite Jest
e) momentos musicais
Podia ser um pouco mais profundo. O plot avança o tempo inteiro e não dá muito espaço para os temas e personagens respirarem, mas o pacing é tão bom que acaba justificando essa escolha.

Well, this was an utter surprise.
I went into this with no spoilers other than "interactive fiction" and "music themed"
What I found was a touching work that hammered home the theme of "music can change a person" in a way I've not experienced since I read Phonogram.
It's certainly not for everyone, and i think some of the plot points are a bit naff, but, overall, I was utterly charmed.
That's quite the improvement over Along The Edge,
Still not very long but with more replayability,
The art direction is stellar.
Finishing it left me in an state of profund melancholy, even more so than their last two games.
The addition of the sung moments is a great idea, but the lyrics are so... dull ?
I just can't get my head around it, they're just so bland and random.
Feels like a real missed opportunity to me.
But this is otherwise a very good visual novel, almost clean of its predecessor's defaults.
Nova-box's signature formula: absolutely GORGEOUS visuals, an intriguing blend of realism and supernatural elements, and an interactive, dynamic approach to storytelling where no choice is right or wrong, yet their consequences constantly reshape the story.
The occasional "niche" musical references might not resonate with everyone, but they never steal the spotlight from the story and the characters. The music within the game itself is great, perfectly in line with the setting. I also enjoyed the subtle references to [i]Along the Edge[/i], nice touch for the studio's fans!

While I loved the other titles from this developer, this was a letdown.
I found the story, while original, very demotivating and depressing. Alice starts out with what I perceived as a particularly good situation life which goes downhill through the entire game. There is no moment, even when Alice learns the meaning and the power of the record, where she can, forgive the pun, turn the tables and influence her fate in a positive way. It does not help that she looks uglier from chapter to chapter. I wished there would have been an option to go back to where she started at and just not listen to the record at all. That kind of ruined the ending and left me with disappointment.
Artwork and music are great. With two other outstanding titles I would still give the developer another go but I regret this game was a disappointment.

Que dire de ce 3° jeu de Nova-Box ? Nous somme face à un nouveau jeu d'histoire où nos choix orientent le déroulement, mais ce qui impacte le plus aussi ici est la musique qui tient une place importante tant l'histoire que dans l'ambiance. Le petit plus que j'ai apprécié est ce lexique accessible à tout moment permettant de comprendre certains termes spécifiques utilisés. Si vous aimez des jeux d'histoires avec des choix multiples, n'hésitez pas franchement un bon moment à passer.
** SPOILERS *** An interesting story, and not the kind you expect to find in games. The writers' passion for psychedelic/70s music is contagious, although there's quite a few missed opportunities in terms of narrative. The concept of Kairos (the pivotal, crucial moment) which plays such a large part in the narrative seems to come and go without the writers taking advantage of it. When the 'key moment' comes you're just given a binary choice with no fanfare (smash record/leave record, join cult/don't join cult, etc).
Overall though I really enjoyed it! The characters motives were clear and well-developed, the writing was neat (but I think I spotted a few typos), the dialogue clippy. The sound design was great. I'll definitely be going back for a second playthrough.
This game is high-concept, beautiful, breathtaking.
I can't recommend it enough.

L'histoire a mis un peu longtemps à démarrer mais après elle vous happe. La direction artistique est en générale très belle, à l'oeil et à l'oreille, même si on est un peu frustré de ne pas entendre les morceaux que les protagonistes nous conseillent (droit d'auteurs...). Au début le système de choix (des icones qui se mettent en surbrillance) me perturbait, mais j'ai fini par apprécier l'histoire sans y porter de l'attention.

“Across the Grooves” is a very loveable visual novel about time-travel, music, relationships, alternate realities and fashion. I liked the story about the mystical record that literally changes their listener’s lives and the way my choices influenced the game’ s look and soundtrack. If you are into mystical stories and music like Sonic Youth, Velvet Underground, Led Zep, folk music and obscure psychedelic bands from the 60’s and 70’s you should easily love this game. I only wished that the soundtrack had actually included songs from those bands I mentioned before, but I guess that would have overstretches the budget.
So far I played the game 4 times and every time I discovered new scenes and dialogue which gives the game a high replay value. A clever visual novel like “Across the Grooves” makes you realise that this genre offers incredibly creative ways of story-telling. Thank you, Nova-box!
I only played through it once but i really love the concept behind all this.
A beautifully made Visual Novel game. The first thing that caught my attention is the artwork, but after playing the game I found many other interesting aspects. The story is about Alice, a young woman who works in a bank and has a loving boyfriend. One day she received a mysterious package from her ex-boyfriend Ulysse who she hadn't heard about ever since their separation three years ago. Inside that package, there is an old vinyl record that changed her life upside down. Will she accept the changes in her life or she'll try to bring her old life back? This is all up to you. The game has eight endings and all choices have consequences.

There is a log section that keeps a history of all the choices you took and the conversations you had throughout your journey. I wished there is a section where we can access the beautiful artwork, characters profiles, and pretty landscapes. The game is not voiced. I liked the in-game achievements showcase, it looks so pretty.

The beginning of the game was very interesting but then it took a different route which I don't mind, but I didn't expect the story to be like this. All in all, this is a very enjoyable game with pretty artwork and beautiful music, I highly recommend it.

I adored this game, if you are looking for a good story and a compelling one this is the game. I think it's cool how your choices change the character and I'm anxious to play it again to see what other outcomes there are. I thought the ending felt a bit rushed, especially after all the build to it. Other then that, if you like games like eliza and neocab you will love this. (It did take me 6hrs for one play through, just an fyi)

ça se finis trop, vite ont en redemande ! Mais ces 3 heures de jeu, étaient vraiment parfaites !

Across the Grooves is a visual novel with numerous music related themes. The story is set in Europe. I won't go much further than that. It's better to just play the game!
I received my copy of the game for free. I only recently got into visual novels and as someone new to the genre, I found the game enjoyable. Nova-box has done a great job here, for sure.
The artwork is gorgeous. The music is great, too. I really enjoyed the way that the Nova-box team wove music into the story. It was unexpected - very cool. The story itself was interesting enough to keep me engaged through to the end - even if I didn't always agree with the choices presented to Alice. I did have fun and ended the game with a smile.
All in all, it was a positive experience - I would recommend this game.

For those who enjoy a very nicely written (though occasionally too verbose) visual novel with significant choice based mechanics, Across the Grooves is a game for you!
With beautiful artwork, absolutely lovely soundtrack & an interesting storyline that takes you to some of the most beautiful regions in Europe, it's a lovely relaxing game for a rainy afternoon.
