a very low budget interactive movie but it´s definetely worth to be honored. One buck is a fair price for the game. Especially since there are a handful endings to be found.
As an amateur FMV maker, I wanted to try out this game to get a hold of how amateur branching narraitve games/movies look like on Steam.
Here is my throughout and personal opinion that is to be taken subjectively to my own experience:
POSITIVES:
+ The game respects its narrative direction consistently and doesn't venture randomly in its design.
+ The choices do seem to impact the story as there seems to be a lot more scenes than I thought which I missed due to it not being a linear game with illusory choices.
+ The costumes and accessories are very great, the creator invested confidently in them to make us feel immersed in the setting despite the limited budget capacities an indie amateur studio typically has.
+ There are a few different gameplay mechanics that make it sometimes feel more like a game than just a choice-based music, which is good relatively to the needs of the player.
+ The VFX to match the atmosphere of a VHDL disk are good.
NEGATIVES:
- The QTEs are not very intuitive when beginning, the user experience made me take some time before finding out what they made and what key on my keyboard to press in order to succeed it.
- There seems to be no fullscreen mode, which made my game kind of overlap over my monitor, hiding parts of it and leaving leaks of my desktop, hindering a bit the immersion and user experience.
- The choices often seem very one-sided, there's hardly a logical reason to make one over the other. Other times, they just feel a bit pointless, and seem to only drive the narrative into branches for the sick of it, without actually feeling that impactful or rewarding upon making them.
- The main menu is hard to access, or at least, I personally couldn't find the settings to remove the VHDL visual effect that over time kind of felt a bit painful to my visibility despite the immersion it brings.
- There's not a lot of dialogues, and when there are, the audio quality is relatively poor, making it hard to understand what they are saying, moreover, often what the characters have to say doesn't bring much to the story. However, when the soldiers speak in their native language, this is appreciated, as I can't understand it and it gives off eastern european movie vibes.
- Acting is weak, hindering the immersion, especially with an FMV oriented around combat and physical confrontation, but you can't really blame them as it was a low-budget project with people that aren't true paid actors, but rather likely friends and volunteers.
PERSONAL TAKES: (take those with a grain of salt)
* I'm not a fan of "rinse and repeat" branching narratives, where one choice can lead to an early death, and rewinding is required in order to progress the story, but I get that this is just the directive the creator wanted to lead into, and it's just a subgenre of FMVs that may not please everyone, while others may enjoy.
* I wish the UI for choices was different, as having to hover over the boxes to see anything at all about the choices was a bit annoying at first, but you get used to it, and it matches the atmosphere too. Moreover, I wish sometimes there were more than just 2 choices.
CONCLUSION:
This is a good project made by amateur/student/friends, and while I sounded harsh, I tried to give constructive insight as a player for their own good, although this one has released almost a decade ago and the director has probably greatly improved since.

I'm sure this was just some school project or something but the UI is terrible, the blurry fuzz of the vhs is really hard on the eyes. The decisions are almost impossible to make with little to no clarification of when a decision can or can't be made. Not worth anyone's time.
amateur fmv attempt, not necessarily a bad thing, and this was [i]so close[/i] to being recommendable. two languages, sometimes with missing punctuation, and a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying and very strong 'you're watching an old vhs tape' filter that can't be turned off completely. language affects the ui and subtitles, but weirdly half the game has muffled gibberish, then they suddenly start speaking english near the end.
the game pauses at choices, which can't always be said about these games, and it autosaves after each with an on-screen indicator. checkpoints are necessary because you might not want or be able to finish the whole thing in one sitting, and [b]you can die by failing quick-time events[/b]. or even failing to notice them, like I did on my first attempt. then failed some more because I had no idea how they worked. tutorial pop-ups are pretty helpful but they completely ignore this part. some unsuccessful attempts lead to alternate paths though.
the problem is, [b]qte isn't indicated by arrows but a silhouette facing in a certain direction[/b]. fully erect is up, I'm pretty sure left and right are flipped (based on posture anyway, which is easier to make out than what actually matters here), and [b]down I still can't recognize because it's not a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crouching one, looks just like the others[/b]. once an arrow is pressed, most likely the wrong one, it _will_ show the arrow itself, the correct one. I've seen some horrible implementations of qte (the only good one being no qte) but this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up one might be top (well, bottom) 3 or so.
space pauses, esc there brings up the pause menu. right shift [b]fast-forwards even if you're watching things for the first time[/b], so it actually works like a vhs and it [b]automatically stops before a qte[/b]. again, can practically never be said about these games, even if they were made recently. not that it's bug-free, [b]sometimes stopping ffwd starts playing the scene again from the beginning[/b].
left shift [b]rewinds to the last checkpoint but only if it feels like it[/b]. can't change your mind or saved outcomes during a playthrough, just try not to die now that you know which arrows to press. at one point I thought it broke my save until I kept pressing space along with shift and eventually got back from a black game over screen. except I didn't really and [b]my save remained locked to that scene on the rooftop, right after failing a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ a qte[/b].
progress is lazily stored in the registry, so I edited the checkpoint value, randomly ended up on the other path (guns blazing instead of stealth) but at least I could continue without starting a new save and fast-forwarding everything to get back to where I was meta progress-wise (see below). except it was so qte-heavy that I had to try it a billion times and almost gave up there too.
otherwise it's more than a binary-choice interactive movie, as you can [b]inspect and interact with items and such and right click works for going back[/b], another basic feature many straight-up point & click adventures lack. [b]no hotspot indicator[/b], gotta mouseover the whole screen, but you can look for hidden alien snails, probably for an achievement. speaking of choices, there's a bonus accessibility issue: [b]arrows have to be held to highlight a decision before confirming with enter[/b], can't just press left or right.
unlike many fmv releases, this one has settings, only in the main menu though. resolutions, windowed mode, a single volume setting (it's a movie but also a game, so separate ones to soften the music would've been necessary), v-sync, brightness, and toggles for vhs grayscale, 2nd vhs layer and chromatic aberration. [b]turning everything off makes the visuals stomachable while keeping the nostalgia[/b] if you're old enough, though during ffwd it's still hard to make anything out. windowed mode randomly gets triggered when starting the game or a new game, or when backing out of the settings menu.
there's a summary at the end of a playthrough, showing playtime, number of deaths, choices made and the name of the ending (there are 10 total). after that some extras unlock as well, more as you keep playing. this is why I didn't want to start a new save after the game-breaking bug mentioned above, the 3 slots are only for keeping progress separate. there are photos, movies, the lengthy soundtrack with some heavy numbers, a retro rpg-looking minigame (just one battle after another), scenarios (whatever they are), achievement and ending lists and [b]a flowchart ('scene navigator') after the 3rd playthrough[/b]. pretty cool stuff.
the chart has single and continuous play options (both with ctrl and alt but only the former is shown), so you can start playing from whenever or just do that one scene. annoyingly, a single scene drops you back to the disclaimer and save slot choice after, then the main menu, not immediately back to the navigator. and weirdly, every scene is unlocked as soon as the navigator becomes available. works for me, saved on a lot of ffwd, qte frustration and youtubing what I wouldn't have bothered with. I even got the achievement for not dying because you simply can't during one of the endings. 3 full playthroughs, 'not dying' after and 4 more endings unlocked from the chart and in the extras still didn't open photos, movies or scenarios, only the entire actual game, making it an even more curious design decision. and a bonus parting gift: [b]choosing daytime ending 4 in the flowchart results in a black screen, only resolved by alt+f4[/b].
the movie/game itself is what it is, some kids playing soldiers in a forest and one of them has dad's camera, but I expected a lot worse and was pleasantly surprised in most aspects. I have a high tolerance for cheese and jank though, prefer it in fmv, in fact. so much so that [b]I enjoyed the experience until the above-mentioned qte ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ broke the camel's back[/b]. for the low price of 1 eur (or half that on sale) you could do worse, including some free fmv titles with zero functionality or quality of life, and if they'd fixed ffwd/rewind, game-breaking bugs and added arrows to qte, it would've been an easy [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-SGszxSxMw]cheesy peasy[/url] recommendation (paul whitehouse is the best).
Felt like someone’s school project in a good way
FMV adventure game, styled like a VHS tape in which you discover a dark story set in a fictional, wartime Yugoslavia through your choices (the scenes were probably filmed in Tczew (Poland).

Jogo muito interessante aqui. Jogo FMV desenvolvido na Rússia, onde você joga como um cara preso no meio de um conflito crescente e precisa sobreviver. O tema VHS dá ao jogo um toque legal e permite que os desenvolvedores tornem algumas cenas mais interessantes com tearing e estática. A atuação é amadora, mas dá para sentir o esforço que todos colocaram nisso em quase todos os segmentos, especialmente nos menus e na ótima trilha sonora. Tem até alguns momentos de cenas genuinamente artísticas e um bom uso de filtros.
Uma pechinca absoluta por apenas um dólar.

You know it when in a game about conflict in Yugoslavia you don't have Bojan, Nemanja and Mirko drinking rakija, instead there's Dimitri, Ivan and Rodion drinking vodka.

This is a school homework project. Do not expect anything else.
Bad recitation, a photographer that can kill alone an entire army is simply impossible.
Also you cannot expect that if you caught a soldier other will surrender to you for save him. In 15 hours and different ending and choices made no achievement at all.
If it-s free you can try it, but not waste your money, it is trash not a game.

Absolutely perfect game, story is amazing, I played this since I was around 11 years old, this was always a very cool game for me, I remember eating snacks in bed playing this on my old 2 gig ram HP laptop during one of the coldest winters I can remember, my sister bought this for me, it is really cheap, I wish I could support the developers more, this is super nostalgic. I still remember those cold days of playing the game during heavy rain storms, taking breaks from the game, only to role play as our protagonist, who I believe is called Dimitri (from memory) by going out into or huge yard with my pellet shooting airguns, making targets for myself to shoot. You may be asking, why do I make such a big deal of this game? Because you must keep in mind, when I was 11, the only other games I owned on my laptop at the time where Papers Please, Stalker S.O.C, GTA 3 and VC and dude stop. Very nostalgic experiences, because when I was younger and it was too cold to go to the living room to play on my Xbox 360. I was forced to play games on my old laptop in bed. Trust me, the times I DID try and play in the living room, I had to wear 3 socks on each foot and still couldn't feel my feet at all, Now imagine my pain when I had to download or watch anything on my laptop, because the laptop did not have wireless internet, and I had to use a lan cable connected to the ethernet, which the router was located in the same cold room. I also forgot to mention, it was thee coldest room in the house because there where no heaters in that room....nor my bedroom for that matter. But I managed and this game is more than nostlagllc to me. The music captures the vibe of those old casino games youu found at your grandma's house...along with pinball. For the life of me, I still can't remember which operating system grandma ran, it was allong the lines of windows 98 and windows XP.....weird, anyways, I recently replayed this game for 2 hours straight on my new computer, and as I will say "Blin is it good"

I appreciate and respect the effort. This was a FMV project made by young people who felt creative energy and tried to make their first computer game.
But, I always try to be objective and analyze the games trying to give an objective description to potential buyers. So, I'm at the side of gamers, not the developers.
This is not something to recommend. It's like they didn't even try very hard.
The acting is very bad, comical. The directing and costumography is also bad. It was filmed in Poland, not in Jugoslavia, the story has nothing to do with Jugoslavia, so the title is deceiving. The story doesn't explain anything...like -who are those soldiers? -what kind of conflict arised? -what are the motivations for the events? It's all over the place. Teenagers are supposed to be grown up soldiers. Also, there is only 1 branch of the story that makes sense, all others lead to strange....empty endings. Nothing in the end is explained.
Also the gameplay parts are bad. In some crucial "combat" moments the game shows you a tiny picture of the lead actor, and you must recognize the direction he is faced towards (up, down, left or right) and click fast enough on the according key-button. But the game doesn't explain that, I spent who knows how many minutes trying to figure out how to pass the tutorial. Also the picture is so tiny you can barely see it.
Also there are completely nonsensical sequences like "checking your handgun". Those who played know what I mean. There are some point and click parts only in the beginning sequences and then they are abbandoned. Some combat situations are interactive, some are not - you just see the main charachter overcoming the enemies automatically.......
To conclude, this game was so chaotical, and all the elements so half baked that it was impossible for me to connect to the events and charachters, and it was impossible to have fun.

"A Trip to Yugoslavia: Director's Cut" is an interactive FMV novel with a gimmick that allows you to fast forward and rewind, which forms part of the gameplay as you negotiate the story. While FMV games tend to be shallow in terms of gameplay, I believe they can be a very entertaining and worthwhile use of gamers time (Press "X" Not To Die is a good example). If they're done right.
The problem with this particular Russian entry is the production value is through the floor. The protagonist is captured by some unknown paramilitary force and must escape. Ok. But the story doesn't make sense, the plot doesn't fit together, the acting is deplorably awful... it's worse than watching a Youtube video with -10,000 likes. It truly is garbage.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just point and click stuff like a browser/Flash game. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here.
For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just watching videos... it might as well be a multimedia browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. "A Trip to Yugoslavia: Director's Cut" has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for starting the game, trivial to achieve, but less than 10 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.
"A Trip to Yugoslavia: Director's Cut" is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

1)interesting idea;

3)bad scenario;
4)polish graffiti that doesnt fit to the time of war in Yugoslavia (something about 2015 year, the word LOL that couldnt exist during 90s, etc.)
5)a mini-game that doesnt fit at all. Some ppl will find it cool, but l think they go beyond the boundaries of the concept

Suprisingly good and very polished. The gameplay is simple but pretty fun, the acting is spot on (although the voice acting is pretty mediocre) and the story is very intriguin. But I have some issues, like I said the voice acting is mediocre at best, the gameplay is kinda sluggish and whenever I fast forward a cutscene, there's a small chance it resets, without me pressing the rewind button. But those are nitpicks at best.

Ein recht junger Haufen hat da ja mal zusammengeschustert. Ich finde die Spieleaspekte wie das Point&Click sowie das vor und zurückspulen ist mal ein sehr interessanter Ansatz und gut umgesetzt, aber sowohl die Story als auch das Acting der Kids haben mich nicht wirklich überzeugt. Irgendwie finde ich es auch immer etwas unangenehm wenn Kriege noch nicht lange her sind und auf diese Art und Weise thematisiert werden. Irgendwie finde ich das immer ein bisschen Respekt bzw. Geschmacklos. Klar könnte man das so zu jeden Kriegszenario sagen, aber gerade der Konflikt ausgeweitet auf Zivilisten und reporter ist einfach immer irgendwo unter der Gürtellinie. Musik und Effekte waren trash, das Acting war schlecht aber ich denke man erwartet hier auch zu viel wenn man bedenkt wie alt die Teilnehmer sind.

To był świetne spędzony czas. Grupa znajomych zebrała się by stworzyć grę i widać po materiałach dodatkowych, że świetnie się przy tym bawili. Tak samo zresztą jak wielu, którzy w to zagrali. Oczywiście jest trochę wad fabularnych, czy technicznych, ale to nie o to w tej grze chodziło by była produkcją na miarę AAA.

Экспериментальный проект, что должен был соединить в себе "напряженную историю", FMV-квест и "боевик". Но на деле оказался довольно скучным фильмом с несколькими концовками, 99% которых представляет из себя смерть Вашего героя.
Вам предстоит делать "выборы", что влияют на прохождение и ведут разными путями к своим "финалам", попутно собирая "пришельцев", что разбросаны по экранам и дают... достижение.
Если Вам надоест военная тематика, а также плохая актерская игра детей на экране Вашего ПК, то Вы можете запустить фэнтэзийную JRPG. В которой Вас ждут магия, Боссы и пошаговые сражения против Непобедимых Противников!

Note that I haven't probably got all the endings or explored all the stuff, tough I don't think I missed many of them that actually were big impact ones.
Anyway, it's a nice little game, however it's not the gritty serious experience I expected when I started and that definitely altered my experience.
This is very clearly a small project put together by some friends, and there's nothing wrong with that, it's quite compelling they managed to put it together they way they did if anything! Still, don't go in expecting a profound war story or incredible acting.
As far as interactive movies go, they did a good job adding some game elements to it. Again, it not perfect but it does the job and the VHS mechanic is pretty cool.
For the price it's definitely worth giving it a go, and from my own experience I can say that there was definitely quite a bit of work that was put into it and I hope the team had fun recording and making the game!

I can finally write some review and it's not to praise game tho..
Firstly let's put good points:
-cheap
-You can call it "retro-game"
-multiple endings
-trading cards
And that all from positive side. Now let's check bad ones:
-Poorly acting, for me even for students
-story doesn't exist at all, you're just a guy in imaginated Yugoslavian state-war
-irrational things just to push a "story" - for example when you are on meadow you accidently can find near your position binoculars and then afterwards in any case needed to be caught by sound making picture of helicopter to be able to progress into the forrest.
It was cool project FOR producer and probably you have great time making this but still for anything instead of F2P system i just wouldn't recommended it, neverthless i assume you can still try it for yourself cuz of the price.

Just very gooooooood
The good:
+ Dirt cheap ($1 or less depending on your region)
+ Choices matter with multiple ending
+ I didn't experience any problem with Linux port
The bad:
- QTE section is very annoying since it shows vague icon of walking human rather than simple icon (▲▼◀▶) and sometimes you're locked in to specific story branch if you messed up
- Somewhat good premise, but has poor story / characterization
The ugly:
* Amateur acting with barely audible voice
* Filming direction is okay, but 540p resolution and excessive VCR effect partially ruin it
* Replayability value isn't very good despite existence of fast forward and scene selection feature
* IMO it's odd choice the game doesn't connect to Steam by default, which could cause you miss some Steam achievement
A Trip to Yugoslavia: Director's Cut is fairly good as experimental game made by high school student, but my excitement/fun only last for about 20 minutes. I can't recommend this game unless you're hardcore fan of FMV game.
