Un juego con mucho de super metroid pero con su propia alma, el arte me recuerda a algunos juegos oscuros de amiga como el shadow of the beast. Que sea un roguelite le puede molestar a algunos, yo los entiendo porque yo tambien estoy un poco cansado de usar este genero como excusa para no diseñar correctamente. pero A Robot Named Fight suele ser bastante divertido y tenso en las partidas donde tuviste menos suerte o tomaste malas decisiones. Ademas tiene posee modos coop (el segundo jugador controla un dron que dispara el mismo tipo de disparo que el protagonista) y deathmatch de hasta 4 jugadores a pantalla dividida.

Довольно интересна вариация рогалика, совмещенного с метройдванией, завернутая в весьма занятный нарратив, и скрашенная качественной 16-битной графикой. Геймплейно, это чисто супер метройд, со всеми вытекающими в виде исследования карты с целью поиска снаряжения для продвижения дальше, и отстрела кучи противников. Однако, в отличие от вдохновителя, смерть здесь перманентна как положено в рогаликах. А каждый новый забег, генерирует структуру карты иначе. Первые несколько забегов, конечно может показаться что в игре не сильно много контента, но это отнюдь не так. Каждая заработанная ачивка, открывает что-то новое. От банального оружия и снаряжения, до полностью новых локаций со своими противниками и боссами, или вовсе новые режимы. Так или иначе игра затягивает, благодаря своему разнообразию. И каждый новый забег, начинаешь с лютым ощущением азарта. В принципе, что и требуется от хорошего рогалика. Однозначно рекомендую.
very fun game at its core, and really impressive. it can be rough around the edges sometimes and the level design is.. inconsistent.. but the power ups and synergies are fun. if you like super metroid and roguelike games give it a shot.

If you've ever wondered what a roguelike would feel like if it were seamlessly grafted onto the skeleton of a classic Metroid game, look no further. A Robot Named Fight! is that intriguing experiment, and for the most part, it's a success.
My experience followed a consistent pattern: the first couple of minutes of each run felt a tad slow, as the initial weapon and movement upgrades can feel limited. But once you push past that opening, the game finds its rhythm and becomes a deeply engaging loop of exploration and combat.
While not without its minor flaws, I absolutely recommend this game to any fan of either genre. It’s a love letter that understands its inspirations. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I'm now genuinely eager for a sequel. I'd love to see the developers take the core concept and really flesh it out (Pun definitely intended!) imagine larger, more intricate environments and a greater variety of enemies, bosses and biomes.
It's a fantastic indie title that proves a great concept, and I have no doubt a follow-up could achieve true greatness.

Dev seems good, game has been good. There's a few bugs/annoyances here or there, deeper lore than it really gets to touch on at points, and co-op's camera system might be a turn-off for some players. If you haven't played Super Metroid, or any game with similar mechanics (like wall jumping), this game may have an additional difficulty hump. If you're someone who's played Super Metroid to death, and wanted something more, this might honestly scratch an itch you've been having. Biggest gripe is the deepfried voice acting, ngl - it's very hard to decypher at points and might've gone a little too hard on the editing.
I have a million hours on switch. I love this game so much. I followed the developer online as he worked on the game. I hope one day he will return. But this game is very very good and has so many secrets.
This is the first time I play a roguelike metroidvania and I'm really enjoying it. I like the variety of weapons and improvements for the suit. The deathmatch mode is great. The only thing I think can be improved is the difficulty of the bosses, including the final boss (too easy), but everything else is great.

I've played just under an hour. It's a love letter to Super Metroid in some really good ways. As 30XX is to Mega Man X, this is to Super Metroid. Feels just different enough to play with your muscle memory, but worth the growing pains.

A Robot Named Fight (ARNF) est un metroidvania innovant, difficile, et probablement inspiré des Metroid Randomized. Le fait que chaque partie soit unique - grâce à la carte générée aléatoirement - confère à ARNF une énorme [b]rejouabilité[/b]. Il y a en outre beaucoup de modes à débloquer ; bref, très très bonne durée de vie.
Un léger côté RPG est présent, puisque des PNJ peuvent vous vendre des améliorations en échange de ferraille (scraps), lâchés par les ennemis vaincus. Des temples sont également disséminés, faire des offrandes permet d'obtenir des bonus aléatoires.
La direction artistique, quant à elle, est sympa. Il y a plusieurs références non seulement à Metroid, mais aussi à Castlevania, à Megaman et à VVVVV, pour ne citer qu'eux. On sent que l'équipe de devs est passionnée.

La difficulté est très élevée, chaque mort est définitive. Cette caractéristique est mal exploitée, à cause des ennemis qui attaquent Fight à peine entré dans la pièce. Les sauts de l'ange sont trop nombreux, la caméra a tendance à coller le mauvais bord de l'écran, cela oblige le joueur à souvent avancer à l'aveuglette et perdre de la vie pour rien.
La physique des sauts de Fight est un peu capricieuse, il faut davantage de temps d'adaptation qu'avec n'importe quel jeu Metroid.
Les musiques collent bien à l'action mais sont légèrement stridentes. Heureusement, on peut paramétrer le volume des bruitages et de la musique à tout moment.
Le jeu n'est disponible qu'en anglais. La barrière de la langue peut contraindre à utiliser régulièrement un traducteur en ligne pour savoir à quoi servent certains objets, ou paramétrer les options. Une traduction en français (et d'autres langues) serait bénéfique à ARNF.
Au passage, l'écran de réglage des boutons de la manette est [b]très confus[/b].

Conclusion, ARNF ne s'adresse qu'à un public de joueurs chevronnés, indulgents envers les défauts agaçants, et qui comprennent l'anglais. Les joueurs occasionnels, débutants, peu réceptifs au rétrogaming doivent s'abstenir, puisqu'ils ne sont pas le public ciblé. De plus, mieux vaut attendre les soldes avant de se plonger dans l'univers de ARNF.

Very solid metroidvania. It's easy to get your health wiped out, but take it slow and you'll do fine. A run takes about 2-3 hours to finish but there's so much to unlock (weapons, areas, bosses) and each run gives you more of the story.
How did this game fly under the radar of Metroid Likes.
This Game gets everything right, and I'm surprised it works amazingly as a rougelite.
Ok so what do I mean by metroid like. two things
1. Shoulder buttons to diagonally aim.
2. wall jumping
it not only does it kinda well it executes that perfectly.
and the items, MY GOD the items.
for progression you always will need and run into elemental type door, too high to get to places and small ducts.
so you think oh so you just get specific items every run to progress.

There are elements that you can add to your main blaster. you can get other weapons that you can swap to. you can get sub weapons, you Have Varia, Gravity, Phazon, ULTRA MEGA SPEED SUITS. YOU GET THE DANG STAR POWER AND IF YOU USE IT RIGHT. YOU GO FULL ANTMAN AND SHOVE YOUR BODY UP THE BOSSES ASS AND EXPAND TO DO MASSIVE DAMAGE LIKE THEY ARE AN OFF BRAND SODA THANOS!
Movement has never felt so good in a Metroidvania, this tickles the part of my brain that only activates when I'm playing super metroid, and I can go with the flow so easily.
there are modes to unlock when you beat the game once, twice, thrice, foucie, fivice times.
it has boss rush and a mega map mode. its just a damn good solid game.
oh and the best part, your playthroughs are never interrupted by story it only has story cutscences in the beginning and end. and there are some bits of lore you can figure out when talking to NPC's or seeing the environment, going into your mind palace and figuring out what happened. Seriously I can't gush enough about environmental story telling.
Story: Robots were living in harmony, until an asteroid of flesh came to earth and kick-started the Flesh apocalypse. Bringing upon Death, destruction and every Cronenberg fetish that seeped from the old gods nightmares. You are Fight, one of the Last of many combat robots brought in to fight the squishy fleshy hoard. Your mission is simple destroy all flesh in you path, gain power and destroy the megabeast. Cause if you get Molested, we all get molested by the tentacley hoard.
So grab you blaster heal yourself, its up to you, you and you to fight the megabeast and save all robotkind. Don't worry we removed the Anxiety chip in your brain. so you wont feel the pressure.
The Game is 13 bucks, I don't care if it says 12.99 that penny difference doesn't mean jack in this economy.

IMPORTANT: This game actually lets you have multiple lives per playthrough (one-time use per run death respawn points), but it is not unlocked until you die the first time. I thought the game was perma-death since this feature was not unlocked to begin with. After uninstalling due to annoyance I decided to give it a second try and said "what, since when is there save points?" It's all because they aren't unlocked on the first run confusingly.
EDIT: There is a bug in the randomization in which it keeps generating worlds where I can't proceed because I don't have a speed boost item yet. Fix this issue, the game is broken like 20% of seeds. This is why I am saying "not recommended"
The game controls solidly, looks really nice for an indie game, and has a surprising amount of content that unlocks as you play through multiple runs of the game. The achievements all unlock new equipment, areas, etc. I like this approach to achievements instead of them being just pointless things that ding when you do something. There are interesting secrets hidden in clever ways, and runs are short enough to be fun while also having substance. If you don't like Super Metroid's control scheme, this game controls almost exactly like it so maybe avoid. Personally I think this control scheme works perfectly fine.
One thing I like about the game is that you gradually unlock additional modes for the game. Tired of having only a couple of areas per run? You unlock a "mega map" with every area in it so you can play the game like a classic metroidvania once you have seen all the areas! There's a boss rush as well. It's actually pretty challenging and requires strategy on what upgrades to get.
Gripes:
- One of my runs seemed unbeatable, every route was locked by an upgrade I didn't have yet and I couldn't proceed at all.
- Game needs to be a bit clearer about what you've unlocked. For example "Revenant Station" doesn't tell me anything about me unlocking the incredibly important feature of "save point", which is what they are.
- I don't see why achievements are disabled on seeded runs (at least the icon appeared to tell me so), what if i got a nice seed by randomness but wanted to try it again? Forcing me to gamble on a run every time is a bit cruel if I got a nice seed through normal gameplay.
- You're likely to mess up the "less than 15% completion when beating the game" achievement by simply accidentally falling onto a pickup. I feel this should be like 20%, maybe 25% due to this. It's really aggravating to be thrust into some pickup you don't need to pick up wasting over an hour of your time.
This game bangs. It's criminally undersold for how well everything works in it and how clever the developer is. Truly the definition of an indie gem, and it's a shame that such a deeply talented dev has languished in obscurity.
I don’t know why I never gave this game a chance. It’s THE perfect game for anyone that’s obsessed with Metroid, Metroidvanias, and wants a game that can truly be endless. Every run is different, and the permadeath can really sting, especially when you’re doing a perfect run and almost at the end, but the seed code gives you another chance to redo that run.
It plays beautifully. Fluid retro super Metroid combat and exploration. I do wish the overall world in a run was larger, with way more aquatic, underwater areas. I’d have really loved to have seen the more sci-fi alien world aspects in this, but its ficus is more on our world being invaded, which is still totally great.
I’ve spent hours playing at a time, and I’m still not remotely tired of playing it.i would love to see this developer do a sequel, in the vein of Metroid dread and other sci-fi related aspects, because this game deserves a sequel and more more more content, respect, recognition, attention, adulation, love…etc. This is easily now one of my top favorite games ever.
Plays perfectly on my ROG Ally Z1 extreme. It’s retro graphics from the Super Nintendo era, so it’s a very small footprint on storage space, system resources.
A Robot Named Fight is a pretty fun Metroidvania and roguelite. The maps are randomly generated and with lots of items to unlock. If you're a big fan of the 2D Metroid games you like this.

This could be the best and challenging game i've ever played
The ONLY true Metroidvania Roguelike. And don't even think about saying that Dead Cells is better, because on the first place, it's NOT a metroidvania, but a NEScastlevania-like, two completely different genres. Exploration is key here, exactly like playing Super Metroid, while Dead Cells is more centered about snappy combat, where the exploration is worthless and maps are closed boxes, where you can only go forward to the next one with very limited backtracking/hunt for secrets.
ARNF and Dead Cells complement each other: if you want a huge map, with backtracking full of secrets and diverse biomes with a 360° explorable map, go for ARNF. If, on the other hand, you prefere a more linear approach to the exploration but with complex action game mechanics (and a, personally speaking, aggressively annoying meta progression) I suggest you look for Dead Cells.
I personally go for ARNF, since you know, this review exists, and the uniqueness of the game. In within 8 years since this game launched, nobody attempted to make a game like this (maybe Rogue Legacy 2 is the closest that I can think of), and it's a commendable thing for the single Dev that made it, that sadly, for life reasons, stepped away from this game. I dream for a future where this game gets new updates, mainly DLC, because I want to support the project in all the ways I can.
The A Robot Named Fight is a giant game and fun as it is though, fans of Super Metroid are at home here, can't recommend it enough.
This is the Roguevania I never knew I wanted, and I actually like it better than Rogue Legacy and Dead Cells. If you wanted me to compare it to something, it feels like someone just loved the idea of the Super Metroid randomizer so much that they turned it into a standalone roguelite game. There's local coop too, where additional players play as drones, but player 1 and the drones share a health pool, so if one person gets hit, everyone gets hit.
My two main nitpicks are that I wish twin-stick aiming and a non-permadeath mode, but it's fine, it's not a dealbreaker. Besides, as someone who has yet to properly play through Super Metroid, I kinda have to get used to this type of aiming anyway and this game has been a huge help with that.

Rooms containing secret objects are clearly marked on the mini-map, and you can often spot precisely where the hidden item is located—or simply know it, if it's a familiar room. While this design choice supports the game's fast-paced progression, it can be a letdown for traditional Metroidvania fans. The pixel art style creates an immersive atmosphere that reminds me of the golden age of the genre. The soundtrack is good, the SFX are unfortunately unappealing. I also struggled with the reverse-dystopia story at first—it felt cheap and unconvincing—but in the end, it works and surprisingly even makes somehow sense.
Despite these quirks, the game's approach demands adaptability and persistence, rewarding players who embrace its evolving nature.

Pretty good roguelike metroidvania, solid homage to Super Metroid. Each run will take you around 1.3 hours if you grab each item. Would say definite buy on sale if you like metroidvanias.
This game has had me hooked ever since I bought the game! I’ve already clocked over 50 hours into the game in two weeks. It’s a combination of a metroidvania with rogue-lite aspects. Lots of secrets and hidden goodies to look for too.
I want to be clear, this game is difficult. You’re going to have a learning curve to it at first, but as you progress through the game, you will get used to everything and how it feels.
Fight does feel sluggish when starting out, but you can fix that. It does help to know that going into this. Another thing that will help is knowing that there is always a way to go, even if you don’t think there is, just keep looking around and you will find the way.
My favorite aspects of this is the game plays like Super Metroid. You get upgrades, but upgrades will always be different every run. In addition, the map will always be different every run, so it provides a unique experience every time you play the game.
Overall, this game is absolutely worth the money. It does go on sale, but for either full price or a discounted price, I would pay for it either way.

The fact that a roguelike is able to bring the same satisfaction as Super Metroid in terms of the secret hunting and power progression while still having its own identity is absolutely stellar. If you haven't played this game and are a fan of OG Metroid, you owe it to yourself to at least try it.

its a fun game that feels a lot like a super metroid clone but while thats true, its held back with its stiff controls. sure, it may have been a choice, but when there is already a roguelike implemented in it, it just seems like a unnecessary handicap that takes enjoyment out of the game. like playing soccer with one leg on purpose, or basket ball with one arm, or chess with half the pieces. it also hindered by it being short, not having many varieties of enemies or gear, and a few things that i feel should be explained or else you just waste resources. give it a go probably on sale, but dont expect much from it. this is certainly on the cusp of what id recommend or not

This game is a cool looking Metroid game, you don't play as a female protagonist this time like in the Metroid series or Samus Aran, you play as cool robot named Fight, what makes this Metroidvania special is that it's a Rogue based Metroidvania, one death means an restart also the map completely changes, yeah unforgiving, you also gain power ups & abilities the farther you go into the map basically the Metroid series, depending on the enemies you face & bosses & what to do on the map, the area will give you different abilities & power up items, whatever comes up ahead in areas, thought this game is a cool Metroidvania rogue based game, I have to say, please don't get hit too much & remember to conserve your energy at all times, when I say that, dont die as it can be so unforgiving as the map completely changes everytime you do, to regain health keep defeating enemies, like these parasital worms in the game & all these other type of creatures you will find & explore. I thought this Robot Named Fight video game was unique as a Rogue game, by the way this game is also on the Nintendo Switch. Recommended if you like Metroidvanias also has an challenge spike of a Rogue to it depending if you are interested or planning to get it, The game's soundtrack can get stuck in my head sometimes as well. Very addicting too, It's a recommendation for me. Hopefully more Metroidvania Rogue games like Robot Named Fight, it sometimes reminds me of Dead Cells as some similarity.
Not too bad. I've had this for years and finally played it recently... for like 17 hours.
It's fun, but now that I've beaten one run, I don't know that I'll put much more time into it. Still, well worth the money. Even if I don't play it again, it's more than paid for itself in entertainment.

The first time I played "A Robot Named Fight" was on the Nintendo Switch. Got it on sale for $0.99 and it was well worth it. A Metroidvania with procedural generation of maps each time you die. The rooms themselves are fixed though, so that runs will always be possible. There are many weapons and items to collect to help you fight off the fleshy invaders with items unlocking as you play through the game. Teleporters and Revenant stations are pretty neat too. If you die, you can spawn one time back at a Revenant station for a second chance. In the end 5/5 stars from me.

I usually don't write reviews. But man this game is good. This game scratches that Metroid itch perfectly. I picked the game up and played it several months ago and was put off by the idea of permadeath, but after completing my first playthrough, i'm ready for another. I was pleased to look at the achievements and see that I still hadn't beaten all the bosses!
This is what happens when metroidvania roguelikes actually apply the full metroidvania formula to their gameplay. Really quality platformer and metroid-like (a metroid[strike]vania[/strike]). It is not just a metroid game turned rogue like though, there are many new ideas and they don't feel out of place at all. Using the metroidvania formula also just makes the abilities/artifacts you obtain feel just about as satisfying as in a typical metroid game or other non-roguelike metroidvania.
The game is very Super Metroid flavored from the actual content to even the controls, and I feel there were even some hints of Mega Man with the way weapons are handled (death animation has gotta be Mega Man). "The last Metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace." are the words I hear over this games intro. This game even includes [spoiler]a bit of sequence breaking[/spoiler]
Buy if you like Super Metroid and roguelikes, or even just 1 of the 2, this game is pretty good.

Довольно средненькая метроидвания с довольно посредственной 16 бит графикой, постоянным возрождением врагов и постоянно зарастающими проходами. Постоянно ковырять это всё довольно утомительно и только замедляет время. Русского перевода тут не завезли и поэтому не очень просто разобраться в том, что вообще здесь происходит.
Притом удивительно видеть целый гигабайт занимаемого места для такой минималистичной игры.
A very enjoyable, very replayable Metroid Roguelite. If you're of the SuperMet variety that *only* lives for Speed Boosting and Shinesparking, you may feel dismayed by that not being in the familiar vein of things; but for those into stuff like Zero Mission, and you want an experience that's varied-but-vaguely-familiar, Fight is good stuff.

empezando por el juego tiene una ambientacion que si bien no es unica ni original , si que esta perfectamente implementada con el lore, atento a los dioses maquinas, cada uno tiene diferente personalidad que tiene que ver con los numeros, pero es facil dandose cuenta com es viendo su cara cuando te habla, para poner un ejemplo Zurban quien le encanta el 5, asi que debes darle scrap en multiplos de 5 para que te de buenos objetos o de lo contrario te puede cobrar con un efecto negativo (estos detalles te los menciona el robot que esta a tu lado nada mas inicar la partida), en adicion hay tiendas que vende objetos que pueden o no ayudarte, se atento con tu eleccion.
El lore como dije antes noes precisamente original pero si bastante epico, y a medida que avanzas en el juego descubre datos que te explica el porque estos monstruos alienigeneas atacan tu ciudad o lo que realmente tienen planeado las deidades mecanicas para ti.
Contras
como siempre no todo es perfecto y el primer problema que veo es que es recomendable usar un joystick para jugarlo, usar el teclado es posible pero es pesado y la configuracion por defecto no ayuda mucho, el cambio de las letras no esta muy bien configurado por lo que si usas un teclado español como yo o de otro idioma, te llevaras la desagradable sorpresa de que muchas teclas no podras usarlas. por fortuna uno se acostumbra rapido despues de 3 o 4 partidas. pero eso se deberia correguir.
el otro punto en contra es que es relativamente corto, aunque es logico tratandose de un mapa procedural, pero para el contenido que puede mostrar (por que en cada partida hay mapas que cambian pero del cielo a la tierra) deberia tener al menos 2 niveles mas (y mas salve points =) por que en este juego cada uno representa una vida extra lo cual resulta lo mas valioso que puedas tener)
y un dato curioso que aunque lo pongo en contras no se si deberia estar aca, es que la curva de dificultad es muy alta sobe todo para jugadores novatos, (a ver solo tienes una vida, mueres y te veras obligado a iniciar un mundo nuevo con un robot nuevo y todo lo que tenias en la partida anterior se pierde) pero ya cuando avanzas se hace mucho mas facil y disfrutable el juego asi que si el comienzo es una pesadilla, pero si logras sobrevivir el inicio el resto del juego es bastante disfrutable.
he mencionado 2 puntos buenos y 3 malos, sin embargo a este juego le doy un voto positivo, por que? por que para mi cada punto bueno vale por 3, ademas un punto que no mencione por que aun no lo he probado es que este juego permite multijugadores, si para varios jugadores es igual de intensa que para 1, eso serian 10 puntos extras, pero como aun no lo he probado lo dejo asi tal cual

well that being the case, personally this one didnt really do it for me for a couple of reasons, for one its based, atleast partially, on Super Metroid controls, which to be honest i never really liked that much, i like SM's level design a lot, and the boss fights and the ambiance, none of which are present with the same level of quality here
now i do like the character progression, it feels good to unlock a bunch of upgrades and get a powerful character, but then again the game has a real bad habit of hiding most of these upgrade within wall pieces you have to shoot, this are the game's "secrets", which isnt much of a secret cuz the minimap tells you the upgrades are there, so this really only tests your patience on whether you are willing to shoot every single wall pixel on screen
also theres this dumb orb NPC that asks for offerings or something, and if it doesnt like your offering you get a debuff or your upgrades get swapped for something else, you are not warned about any of this btw, its just a newbie trap
so when i compare the meager, tough enjoyable upsides this game has, to the numerous aggravating downsides, ill go with a "not recommended", tough if you love how Samus controls in Super Metroid i imagine you could enjoy this

Controls, art, music, all brilliant.
I've had multiple runs completely ruined by critical items not spawning until the late-game (+2 hours into a run) really basic items like a morph-ball equivalent or an explosive/rocket substitute. It makes certain runs feel pointless if these items don't spawn in the first few areas, frustrating experience.
Your mileage is totally going to hinge on randomness working out for you. I'm guessing most positive reviews had good runs that didn't waste their time,
Sadly the closest experience I will get to playing Metroid for a while, at least until I get Nintendo Console... but this is not just a simple substitute. For every one thing inspired by or taken from another game, there is another unique idea or visual. I love the enemies and how gross they are, and even though the controls can be a struggle to get down, finding a way to work with them adds the challenge in a way that is still enjoyable to control, despite how janky it may be at times. Good pixel art, good gameplay, good ♥♥♥♥.

The overall feel of this game (where you must beat the meat) is admittedly as derivative as it appears. But it's still probably one of the better attempts out at a Metroidvania 'rogue[i]lite[/i]' out there, requiring different items to traverse a procgen map while trying not to die, and has a fun thematic turnaround on flesh vs. metal.
Itemization in this game has some measure of overlap to go through various obstacles and doors, but the final pool hits a decent spot where it doesn't feel too bloated or small, so some items won't always be annoyingly common or too elusive. The map is otherwise populated with many passive bonuses and colored scrap items hidden across it, and the latter plays alongside common grey scrap as a currency. To further boost the player's power with these, there are various smiths and shrines around the map, the latter having its own quirk to game it somewhat.
Most enemies are made of meat, the overall selection isn't actually too bad despite the theme and most bosses are relatively fair. Fight is also deceptively fragile, and it can easily feel that some enemies do a point too much damage while healing is all over the place, being abundant or scarce.
Otherwise, the game's overall content as it stands post-updates is ample enough, including some secret stuff - and there are also some side modes that granted, you'll probably clear once or so for completion's sake, but they're still appreciated. Also splitscreen deathmatch, if you really want to for some reason. Game audio is serviceable, and the music loops go for a few minutes so it's nothing grating, also having a nice few tunes too.
The pratfalls of a generated map made of pre-made rooms will come to light eventually, and it's certain to get overly repetitive at some point, sure. But it doesn't help that the overall layouts don't tend to tailor themselves to major mobility pickups Fight can also obtain. Any jump upgrade literally only serves to get on top of very high pillars, and anything lowering his profile gets past a token few crawlspaces. Any interesting mobility abilities don't get any cool rooms to make effectual use of them, they tend to break blocks like weapons do. Hazards like superheated and submerged areas are otherwise no different to any other room; they won't change the enemy roster or introduce elements to reflect their state. As a result, map navigation and exploring isn't as interesting as it could be since these items are practically just limited to gates or making other areas less annoying. At least dangerous attacks and bouncing monsters in dark areas do illuminate somewhat.
Some annoyance from the items themselves do sometimes occur as well; sometimes you'll get a run that is bloated with more energy weapons than sense, especially when almost all of them rely on the same resource pool that many activated items also rely on, and a radial menu doesn't really solve that. The Ability button could be stacked with a fair amount of items relying on it alone, though this isn't as common.
Conniptions aside, it's worth a shot if the novelty of a halfway between Super Metroid and The Binding of Isaac (plus some hints of some other 2D classics) speaks out to you.
A must play for fans of the Metroid franchise.

Basically Super Metroid but roguelike so map is randomized along power-ups offered, to a degree. You unlock further item alterations that show up in future runs.
That being said I felt like after beating the game once that I didn't feel compelled to do it twice, yet I did to see if there was much of a difference and while every boss other than final boss was different in that run, it didn't feel significant enough to want me to play more.
To someone else this type of game may appeal more which is why I upvote it, but ultimately it doesn't quite do it for me.

What this metroid-like lacks in characters and story it more than makes up for in balanced procgen levels with unique items and upgrades. Great fun to play over multiple short sessions.
Most of the reviews already say this, but it really does feel like a rogue-lite Super Metroid. It is quite impressive how it manages to make a (usually) decently paced metroidvania, and still have it mostly procedurallly generated. There are a few rough edges that take some time to get used to, but once you learn the mechanics, the replayability is great. I always come back to this if I am looking for a familiar metroidvania experience, but don't feel like one of the games where I have the map and unlocks internalized.
It's Super Metroid, but as a roguelike, and a well-made one. Credit to the one-man dev team for making a rock-solid game in a genre I normally get bored of extremely quickly.

It's a blessing this exists tbh. It's literally roguelike Super Metroid with the movement being more refined than in Super. It somehow takes on a concept that sounds as impossible as that, and makes the best possible version of it. I fricking love this game.

After recently beating several of the metroid games I wanted one I could replay that would feel different each time. A Robot Named Fight is exactly what it looks like and exactly what the other reviews say: A roguelike version of super metroid. If that sounds good to you, you'll enjoy it.
I have exactly one complaint about this game and it's that they have the charge shot mechanic wrong, for no reason that I can discern. You should ALWAYS fire out a normal shot before you begin charging, then charge if you hold the button, so that your shots time up with the button presses and not the releases; but in this game if you charge your shots you only fire on release, leading to much slower and harder to time shots if you aren't using the charge. Fortunately you can turn it off if you don't want it, but why not program the charge shot correctly in the first place??
Other than that, game's great, get it, watch the goofy lil fascist robots run around and have no idea what's going on.
I was going to play Super Metroid Randomizer but then I heard about this game!
Having a good time so far and a lot of the controls are VERY close to Super Metroid. In fact so close that the inertia and momentum cause me to fall on spikes more often than I do in more modern Metroid titles!
Great tribute to Super Metroid and Megaman X, plenty of replay value that rewards determination as you level up your character, one of my faves this year A++

Great metroidvania rogue lite or like.... and you unlock new upgrades so there is good replay value. And there is random map generation so that no play though is the same.

A Robot Named Fight! is yet another of literally thousands of console ported 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere.
This badly made, lazy pixelcrap platformer is both a "metroidvania" and also, conflictingly, "roguelike". "Metroidvania" means you have to do a lot of backtracking. Lazy devs love this because they don't have to create as much content for the game. "Roguelike" means the developer used procgen algorithms instead of creating content... also lazy. This is absolutely on par with the developer not knowing how to/being unable to do video game graphics properly and using garbage pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. So you can see what's going on here.
Let's dig a little deeper into the technical implementation trainwreck.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
PC gamers will be insulted by the demand from the developer that a console peasant children's toy controller should be used, despite this being on PC. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're developing for, and must never, under any circumstances dictate to gamers how their games are to be experienced.
The game features no proper level design or game/story flow/plot, as they opted to try to use samey repetitive procgen algorithms as a substitute for adding such content to the game, to avoid doing the important job of level/map design. As a result, the game doesn't actually have any content worth mentioning, just endless, boring, repetitive, soulless algorithmically generated sameyness. Developers must learn that procedural generation is not an acceptable substitute for content.
Because this is designed for consoles, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the inferior console gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the console-centric developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for consoles forces upon a game. Once more, console peasants have made gaming worse for everyone.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only appears around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
A Robot Named Fight! has the cash grab price of $13 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. That's right, the developer couldn't be bothered doing video game graphics properly, creating content or anything else for this lazy console port, but he wants thirteen bucks for you for not doing his job properly. What a joke. You can get Mad Max or Shadow of War for less than this! This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
I picked this up because I enjoy trying random weird indie games and looking for the possibly janky diamonds in the rough.
This has become one of my favorite games of recent memory. It's procedural permadeath Super Metrois, and it does about a thousand things right - the difficulty curve is appoachable, quality of life features are there for you, and there's a great feeling of having the opportunity to become unfairly powerful even though that's clearly what's intended.

It's very much a Super Metroid random map generator, it does succeed at this.
It's a little floaty, the map lacks colour for different areas.
Ultimately I'd much rather play one of the many great metroidvanias (Or even a mid one) than do runs in this. It's technically competant but doesn't draw me in, it felt like a chore to play.
Another game like this that you've probably already played that I did enjoy was Rogue Legacy.

It's a fun roguelike take on metroidvania game design, it's very impressive in a technical sense and is quite fun as an actual game. I wish there were more area and item variety, now that I have basically everything unlocked and I'm not constantly gaining new items.

Funny, but too heavy to control Fight. Also, the difficulty increases in a faster pace than your resources to overcome it.
