The Old World has passed away. Amidst the ruins lurks an ageless fear. Outlander, once adrift upon the Ageless Sea, finds himself on the shores of a dying world. From the consuming gloom emerges a figure cloaked in white, the Shepherd of Wayward Souls, who burdens Outlander with hunting down the remaining Guardians of the Old World. Traverse ancient crypts, sunken ruins, corrupted temples and howling forests with nine weapons and ten artifacts of dreadful might. Traditional firearms such as the double-barreled shotgun lay waste to foes and all have alternate fire abilities. The Retcher and the Fangspitter transform the cysts and teeth ripped from the corpses of enemies into death-dealing projectiles. Do not underestimate the adversary, for they grow great in number and power. Keep both mind and blade sharp to survive the dangers ahead.

Не рекомендую. Игра мало чем выделяется. Нет адекватного банни хопа, разнообразия врагов, музыки. Набор оружия, хоть и запоминающийся, но небольшой. Левел дизайн тоже не шибко крутой. Из-за этих компонентов геймплей проседает. Первый босс самый унылый в истории боссов. Я ожидал, что это конец игры, но за ним последовала следующая глава и я не уверен, что буду её проходить, т.к. НПЦ те же самые и стало очень скучно.

Too much phucking around with keys and switches. I can't stand wandering around not knowing where to go. Just make it clear where to go. I spent ages wandering around and around and around not being able to find a switch I needed to progress. So boring. Give a quest marker or something to avoid all this pointless boredom while just trying to advance the game.

A estética está ben chula e facelo co motor de Quake actualizado é un premisa que valoro, pero non acabo de facer clic e cando levo 2-3h. Abúrrome del porque non sinto, nin que a coitela esté ben plantexada, nin que os inimigos estén ben dispostos no espazo nalgúns anacos. Iso acaba lastrando o divertido que é moverse pegando tiros.

A very good classic-style shooter with fun weapons and great map design with tons of secrets. Decent enemy variety and good sound design as well. Completed on Normal difficulty.

► Maps on the overworld can be played in any order, which changes the sequence in which you discover different weapons or encounter different enemy types
► Appropriate amount of clutter makes your surroundings very easy to read, and no artificial signposting for the player is necessary at any point.
► Many maps have destructible sections that are mostly just aesthetic additions so the destruction you deal leaves marks
► The art style allows secrets to be appropriately hidden, but still discoverable via actual exploration, rather than obvious deliberately added clues pointing to them.
► Classic difficulty design that doesn't just change monster and player health.
► Good sound design. It gives you all the info you need about nearby enemies and incoming attacks in a split second
► Limited saves, with an option to have infinite saves
► HUD number colors are correlated with their related resource, even ammo types
► Fast melee monster types are used intelligently in specific sections and it teaches you to deal with them in smart ways
► Pistol's secondary fire is a ricochet corner-shotgun, just like Unreal2's assault rifle. My favorite shooter gimmick. The low-poly level design also helps with its use when attacking enemies around corners because the geometry makes the reflection predictable
► Can't go wrong with a nailgun having a selector between [b]full auto and Fuller Auto[/b]
► BFG that you have to charge using melee kills is a nice way to deal with the resources of an overpowered weapon

◄◄ Crouch-jumping? Really? It was a failed experiment in 1998. [b]Just have mantling.[/b] The character has arms in addition to legs. You can pull yourself up a ledge. Also, the crouch-jumping is programmed wrong, completely preventing jumping if your inputs are in the wrong sequence, unlike in Half-Life.
◄ Powerups that you carry and manually activate was basically a bad idea all the way in Quake 2. You just end up hoarding them and never using them because there is no penalty for carrying them around.
◄ Tutorial starts with an unskippable cutscene and unskippable dialogue
◄ Melee combat tutorial randomly spawns an enemy that instakills you when you attempt to kill it in melee. The tutorial randomly spawns ranged enemies and the only way to complete the tutorial is to bait those enemies to kill the instakill enemies (on a second playthrough the only enemies that spawn are the basic enemies. I don't know why the first time it spawned enemies that make it unreasonably hard)
◄ Successful completion of the melee combat tutorial randomly leaves you stuck in an empty room with no escape because after the last enemy is killed, the door to leave the area will not open and the next set of enemies will not spawn
◄ Ludicrous overuse of one enemy type in particular becomes tedious. They're exactly like the chaingunners in Final Doom except they fire projectiles. Using so many of them everywhere constantly isn't even thematically appropriate considering what the locations are.
◄ Grenade launcher has an upward arc instead of firing the projectile straight and letting it drop, simultaneously making estimating your arcs harder and insulting the player's intelligence by assuming that they do not know that gravity exists.
◄ Torch burning sound effects are a bit too loud and ubiquitous, drowning out other environmental audio in some maps
◄ Overworld map has death chasms all over, and the game engine's behavior between slopes and jumping very easily leads to the player dying. You have to savescum and waste your manual save resources just to survive walking around.
◄ Breakable containers sometimes have useful items, but it's so rare that it's just a giant waste of time to look for them. They are also not random, meaning that you may as well just have that item out in the open.
◄ Boss fights use effects that give the impression that your damage is being negated so unless you just keep bashing yourself against the wall, you'll think that you are doing something wrong.

Overall a decently made game, however it offers a very forgettable experience.

First to adress the elephant in the room this game is heavily inspired by quake and it's modern mods like arcane dimensions and is supposed to give off the same vibe/experience. But unfortunately a lot of this game's core elements aren't very well thought out or executed.

The level design overall isn't terrible but the majority of the levels in this game are way too lengthy and the layouts can sometimes get confusing, there are some levels I liked though. The main level design philosophy this game employs is trying to construct levels in a very interconnected and semi-non-linear maner. Levels like that feel amazing if done right, and that's something you can experience playing good quake 1 mods/maps (like afore mentioned arcane dimensions). Unfortunately the devs don't really succeed at that, playing through this game's levels most of the time felt like a slog becasue of the length and boring encounters. The environments visually mostly look good and sometimes it feels nice to just take in the visuals while everything else is lacking but that's not really an excuse for otherwise boring level design. Also while I say they look good, they aren't exactly great. The game mostly just offers generic dark fantasy stuff while not trying to spice it up with unique story telling elements/techniques to atleast try to set itself apart from other games. It however is decently executed and generally looks decent so If you're into this stuff you will probably enjoy it.

The other game elements don't really help make the level design situation better.

The weapons look/feel cool to shoot, however the underlying design is very lackluster. First of all there is very little variety. You might think the devs tried to have a "the less is more" situation here but there is not enough for them that's for sure.

First of all there is no rocket/grenade launcher of some kind which can deal AOE damage and damage/kill groups of enemies, I feel like this is an integral element of any boomer shooter game and was one of the most important parts which made quake 1 as great as it is back in '96. Kinda baffled from this decision. And yes there is a gun which lauches some kind of toxic orbs which remind of grenades but they don't bounce and detonate on impact and again no AOE damage so it sucks. And yes there is some kind of a launcher on the screenshots which I didn't get to try, but I played this game for what felt like an eternity and didn't encounter it yet and in fact was wielding the same weapon set for like 4 levels or something so I don't care.

Then we also have quite useless alt-fires for the weapons:
For the pistol you burst-fire 3 bullets instead of one which makes the primary fire mode basically obsolete.
For the shotgun you can alt-fire with ricocheting bullets which is just uhh as gimmicky and as useless as it can get (the ricochets don't hit sh!t).
For the toxic orb launcher it bursts multiple orbs instead of one, the same situation as pistol basically. The primary fire becomes obsolete.
For the nail gun I can't remember if it didn't have an alt-fire mode or I just ended up never using it since it was mega useless, whatever.

There is no clear synergy between those weapons unfortunately. There isn't a clear idea of which kind of enemy encounters each weapon was designed for and you can kinda use any weapon for any encounter (besides the pistol ofc, that gun is quite useless overall) so you basically end up using whatever gun you currently have ammo for. Which is another big problem, the ammo is very scare in this game but more on that later.

Then we have the dagger, which is outright broken and you can probably finish the entire game using it solely. You can alt-fire to do a dash/charge attack which would launch you forward dealing lethal damage to any enemy in you trajectory, this pretty much nullifies any other weapon's value since you can just one-shot any enemy with it and this is the first weapon you get in the game(!) yeah and you don't need ammo for it. The dash also allows for you to bhop which is super fun.
While using it is cool, this obviously brakes the whole balance of the game and shouldn't be the main gunplay element.
Bhoping using the dagger is geniunly fun but isn't at all required by the game or integrated into the game's loop. The devs could've made it more accessible (maybe add auto-jump or make air-strafing easier) and integrate it into the gameplay properly but instead it's just there as a "bug" like it was in OG bhop games like hl, quake, cs 1.6 and it's only fun/good for speedrunners/ppl who know how to bhop, if you aren't one you're out of luck.

Now every weapon I mentioned is basically the entire weapon set I got to use and was wielding it during the majority of my playtime (I didn't finish the game completely), very little variety. Looking at the screenshots there is more weapons, however the game makes you use this boring set for a very long time and I cannot bear to get through however more of the game I have left to get these weapons, I got bored very quick. And I doubt those weps would add anything valueable at all, given the lackluster enemy/encounter design.

The enemies are whatever honestly I don't want to go through it they're just most typical monsters you can see in any boomer shooter game and since there is no proper gunplay and you can one shot them with the dagger it doesn't matter.
But If we would imagine there was no dagger, I'd say that there is this cacodemon-type enemy (medium sized flying meatball shooting projectiles at you) which is basically a big bullet sponge and I gotta say it's annoying how often the devs decided to throw them at you in groups.
I'm mentioning that enemy as a way to lead towards the problem of scarce ammo in this game. It's very easy to run out of ammo and that feels super unfun, makes you very conservative of using your ammo and makes it so that you can't just hold down your fire button at the hordes of enemies to gun them all down, instead forcing you to be deliberate and be worried about your ammo. And it typically runs out faster for the nailgun and the orb launcher which are the more fun weapons to use but because of this problem you end up using them the least and it just sucks.

Also overall the game is pretty difficult, but not because of the intricate skill-based game design, but because of the sum of the previously mentioned problems. Bad weapon, enemy design, ammo scarcity that is. As someone who is well-acquainted with fps games this game felt rather frustrating. But also you don't have a quick save feature which makes everything worse, instead you get some VERY rare fixed checkpoints and expendable quick saves items instead.

Now the expendable quick save would be your main way of saving the game and tbh it's just HORRIBLE. First of all it puts a lot of weight on you, since you'll have to guess where you should be saving or not, and you cannot predict that too well. That is the exact reason quick saves exists, just so you can save-scum and save before each potentially difficult moment in the game and make sure you don't lose all your progress, making them expendable defeats the whole point and just ends up being a very bad way of saving your progress in the game generally. If you save-scummed in a game before just imagine you'd have the quick-save feature removed from you, that would just suck and you'd just end up abandoning the game. Which would probably happen to most of the players who aren't above average in fps games playing this game.
I personally also almost got stuck on one level where I had no quick saves left and basically was instantly using one as soon as I got to find it. It was bad.

Overall cannot recommend this game, even if you're a quake 1 fan, it's not as good.
I could elaborate more but I hit the character limit unfortunately.

В целом, игра хорошая. Однако, слишком затянута. На момент написания отзыва сел "добивать" третий акт. Последний раз играл наверное год назад. Плюс, отсутствие возможности за один раз получить все достижения. Уж простите меня, но ради одного достижения перепроходить игру я не буду. Спасибо за возможность сохраняться в любом месте, и в любых количествах. Отдельное спасибо за то, что это не влияет на получение достижений. Иначе моменты с платформингом превратились бы в настоящий ад. Проходить игру стоит небольшими "забегами", уровня два за раз максимум. Иначе она просто надоест. Собственно с этим я и столкнулся. Я считал, что в игре один акт. Когда начался второй, я удивился и немного огорчился. Когда понял что ещё будет и третий, совсем печаль наступила. Очень не хватает карты. Некоторые уровни прям сильно запутаны. Есть уровни, или уровень, не помню, на которых/ом можно проворонить получение секрета, и заруинить получение достижения. Рекомендую играть с гайдами/видеопрохождением. Причём сначала смотреть как найти секрет, а потом уже проходить. Правда это сильно замедляет прохождение. Если, например, pagb666 тратит на уровень 48 минут, то я, параллельно смотря его прохождение, полтора часа. Игру покупал на этапе разработки, по чём не помню. Совершенно точно, что раза в два, как минимум, дешевле чем сейчас она стоит. За полную стоимость рекомендую НЕ покупать. Дождитесь распродажи. Где-то 350- рублей максимальная ей цена.

I mean, it's very pretty and has a cool save system but the gameplay is just so incredibly bland, and the weapons don't feel good to use, they feel more like shooting a water gun at the enemies with how many shots it takes.. Plus there's a lack of enough ammo and health in most areas to kill every enemy, so you're left just pointlessly running around trying to melee an enemy that is sniping you from 2 stories up with 5 hp. I just don't feel any reason to keep playing, because it feels like none of the new introductions actually do much of anything.

no mid range weapons and most of combat is long range you have no rifles if you want to enjoy this game you need to be familiar with quake modding and be competent to rebalance things and undo all the terrible cvar changes to make it feel more like quake (imagine a 30 year old game have better movement and physics then a new one)

has a stupud launcher better off getting it off steam to get around the headache of buying it with the shipped malware.

I’m very mixed on this game. It’s a pretty cool concept — if the older Doom games were remade, I feel this design concept would work well. Some of the map designs are also different and clearly have effort put into them. I really liked the first knife weapon they give you, along with the two-method shooting mechanic. I can definitely see the vision behind the game, but while the idea is good, I felt there were also a lot of negatives.

One thing I have to mention is the repetitiveness. Since the game areas are very long, you’re basically nonstop fighting the same waves of enemies. Don’t get me wrong, I do appreciate a long game, but there’s barely any story or pacing. New enemies just kind of appear, you get all the main weapons in the first level, and there are almost no bosses. Combined with the super long levels, it starts to feel more like a survivor arena-type game.

Another thing I didn’t like as much is the number of exploding enemies. Almost every enemy explodes, and what doesn’t help is that most of the weapons don’t feel very good to use. It feels like I either one-shot enemies or have to use a huge amount of ammo on others. I’m pretty sure certain weapons are designed for specific enemies, but the combat still feels repetitive. Honestly, the only weapons I found fun were the first knife weapon and the shotgun — the others felt weak or constantly ran out of ammo.

One final thing: since I like finding secrets and exploring maps, it would be nice to have some kind of map system. It doesn’t even need to be complex, just something to show where I’ve already explored. This is more of a personal preference, though. Most of these points are just my opinions, but I really only had consistent fun during the first two levels.

Overall, I like the concept, but I feel the game is flawed in many aspects. If you’re wondering whether to buy it just to try something different, I’d say go ahead — especially if you don’t mind long, fast-paced games. But if you’re expecting something fully like Doom, it’s probably closer to Doom 3, and honestly Doom 3 was far more entertaining than this game so far.

Es un muy buen juego. Realmente se siente esa vibra de Quake en su jugabilidad. Sinceramente, tiene un gran gameplay, aunque lo que sí he notado es que, en el modo difícil, no es tan difícil xD.
Aunque su música, que es más ambiental, me gusta mucho por la estética del juego, siento que me hubiera gustado escuchar temas un poco más acelerados o música dinámica en el momento en que el gameplay se pone más intenso. Creo que ese es el único "pero" que le pongo al juego.
Si quieren jugar un buen shooter que se sienta como los grandes shooters de los 90, sin duda deberían probar Wrath: Aeon of Ruin.

Compré WRATH: Aeon of Ruin de salida para apoyar al estudio porque realmente me gustaba lo que estaban haciendo. Siempre lo tuve en Steam y esperaba lo básico: abrir Steam y jugar.

Cuando vuelvo después de un tiempo, me encuentro con un launcher bizzarro que no me interesa instalar. Yo compré un juego en Steam, no un launcher para poder jugar el juego.

Sinceramente me parece una decisión tonta agregar fricción innecesaria a algo que ya funcionaba perfecto. El jugador de Steam es bastante conservador: quiere su biblioteca centralizada, sus logros y listo. Steam es Steam, qué le vamos a hacer.

La fragmentación casi nunca funciona. Incluso la Epic Games Store, que es un gigante financiado en gran parte por el éxito de Fortnite, tuvo que empujar exclusividades y regalar juegos durante años. Y no es ningún secreto —ni algo malo— que mucha gente reclama juegos gratis en Epic para después comprar lo que realmente quiere en Steam. Es una realidad.

Lo más irónico es que el juego es muy bueno. El talento del estudio está ahí. Pero decisiones externas como este launcher terminan opacando la experiencia y generando reseñas variadas que no tienen que ver con la calidad del juego, sino con la incomodidad que genera esta imposición.

Por eso, en su estado actual, no lo recomiendo.

Looks cool, plays fine, and had plenty of potential when stuck in early access hell... but now that its free to exist as a whole product, I find very little about Wrath: Aeon of Ruin which makes it more deserving of its time against the dozens of other Quake-inspired Boomer shooters released to steam since the 2010's.

Wrath is an intriguing old-school FPS built in the Quake engine. It suffered from a protracted and troubled development, and has a strong air about it of having been pushed out the door before anyone could quite figure out how to get it to work. That's not to say that it's broken, rather that its constituent parts don't hang together as well as they could, leaving an experience that is very much less than the sum of its parts.

If however you can look past the awful balancing, the lacklustre enemy roster and the sometimes glacial pacing there is still a lot to appreciate here. The game drips atmosphere: earlier stages are reminiscent of Hexen 2, particularly where it has you exploring a castle complex built atop a snowy mountain top. Later on, episode 3 plunges you into a bloody hellscape that feels closer in tone to id's early work. The soundtrack pulses and drones in the background, shadowy corridors twist in every direction, and monsters howl and groan around you as you press forward, making for a moody and compelling world to explore.

And exploration is the name of the game here: with huge open-ended maps and myriad secrets to uncover, this game offers plenty to delve into and comb through, dialling down combat intensity for a greater focus on the environment. It does tend to indulge this too much though, with many maps in episode 2 being absurdly long and convoluted. Even veterans of the Quake modding scene who have tackled the likes of Arcane Dimensions will likely balk at the size of some of these maps, which often start with an interesting artistic direction or idea, but then run it into the ground through repetition. It's a game where you're unlikely to finish more than one level in a single session, and I found myself taking lengthy weeks-long breaks between play sessions, needing to come around again to the idea of throwing myself back into such labyrinths.

I'm glad to have stuck with it though, and have on the whole enjoyed my time blasting through what was clearly, at one stage at least, a passion project of a very talented developer. That it released with so many flaws is a great shame; not a dealbreaker for me, and I do recommend it to anyone who can play with patience and keep expectations in check. Just know that for however much you may enjoy it, it will leave you with the sad feeling that it could have been so much more.

Игра улёт! Не знаю, как там у кого вылетает игра и по какой причине исходя из негативных обзора, мой совет: Научитесь ставить операционки и оперировать драйверами, чтоб понимать, как работает вообще ваша система.

Что касательно лаунчера, то при первой попытке запустить игру вам будет дан выбор: Запускать игру напрямую (при следующем запуске игры не будет открываться окно лаунчера) или же с его использованием.

Лично у меня игра работает стабильно, без нареканий.
Советую всем, пробуйте!

I bought this game back when it was in early access, just after Dusk and Ion Fury made a splash on the scene. It jumped on the resurgence of boomer shooters, but the development time was prolonged. When it finally saw release, the hype for boomer shooters had passed its peak, the initial resurgence over. Doom Eternal had released, I believe, and to my eyes this significantly changed the scene. Now shooting veterans dug their claws into Ultrakill and Turbo Overkill, among other Eternal-likes.

I returned to this game because in 2026 I wanted to clear my backlog. I promised myself not to purchase a new game for this year. And what a reward! I played the initial first world again (as I had done when I first purchased the game), completed it, and now I'm only a couple levels away from the final boss of the last area (on HARD difficulty, no less).

The game reminds me why I love boomer shooters: the complex map design (these devs are Quake mappers, after all), the sheer scale of the maps, the enemy variety and confrontations, enemy placement, the secrets (so many), and the game brings its own twist to the genre with powerups and a launching sword movement, which makes traversal a pleasure.

I think this game lost its moment but absolutely deserves attention from anybody who loves Quake. You might hear from people that the game overstays its welcome. It's too long, they say, and while I feel that sense of fatigue at the end of a play session, I keep returning, enjoying the loop immensely.

No other game has felt so underrated to me. While Ion Fury wins for Build-Engine magic, and Amid Evil for sorcery, and Dusk for gunplay and enemy design, among all modern boomer shoots, THIS ONE takes the cake for epic level design. Every map is a huge adventure, rivaling the best of Quake's infamous mod, Arcane Dimensions.

Don't sleep on this one if you're considering purchasing it, and thank you to the team behind this who persisted throughout the years and did not sacrifice their core vision.

A lof of people have been leaving negative reviews because of some "launcher" that has been added, but since I don't care for what dumb morons on the internet say, I bought it anyways and, first of all, the launcher comments are incredibly mistaleading (unless they actually removed whatever people were complaining about, in which case people should update those reviews), it's just a SPLASH SCREEN that pops up for 2 seconds before the game launches, SO WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?! I thought it was some sort of third-party launcher that would require login to Falqrum or something like a configuration window that would make it slower to get into the game, which wouldn't be the end of the world either, but that's not even what it is? Get a life, you losers! I know the game is called WRATH but you should deal with yours with real-life anger-management therapy, so go take your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ meds already!
This game is great and it's the closest thing to Quake/Doom you can get without it being retro-style. It looks and feels very modern, with huge beautiful maps filled with enemies and secrets to be uncovered. There is barely any story plot, you have hub world with secrets but without enemies and then you enter some portals right into non-stop action at different time period locations in levels that are really well-designed for exploration accompanied by masterfully-crafted atmospheric ambient sounds. It is very well optimized, I have a potato and I can play at 60fps and max graphics. I've played WRATH years ago during development and I was super excited for the final product, and the moment I entered the second hub world, I had my jaw on the floor, it is fantastic! I've spent 10 hours just on the first hub, so it is really worth its price.

I only have 2 cons:
- The subtitles cannot be resized and they are really hard to read, because...
- The font-style is terrible and combined with the issue above, it's almost impossible to read.

So even though those two things are clearly tiny issues (pun intended), at least it's not a non-existent issue like the Launcher drama. Buy it and play it now! You won't regret it!

Man, F$&K this game.
I’ve really tried to love this game, but it’s just not clicking. I usually pride myself on pushing through tough challenges, but this one feels fundamentally unbalanced. Most of the time I’m wandering around without any clear direction of where to go, and when I do think I’m on the right path, I get wiped out by waves of enemies with near-perfect accuracy. I mean these fools are sharp shooters.

The difficulty doesn’t feel balanced — it feels punishing from the limited save points to the back tracking, I just don’t get what the dev was thinking. There are countless temporary power‑up slots yet after 7.5 hours I’ve only found a handful. Meanwhile, there are no meaningful upgrades or modifications to improve the slow, underpowered weapons.

And to the developer: please consider adding aim assist for players using controllers or handheld devices. It’s 2026 for Gods sake.

THE MAPS ARE TOO f#$KING HUGE!

seriously, 4-500 enemy count numbers with gothic-themed complex mazes of levels do not belong together unless its built for horde encounters, but the devs thought that navigating a level for 30-45 minutes with NO MAP was the play here.

enemies are uninspired and sprawled over the map juuuust enough to 'justify' the count.

weapon impact and ammo variety seem to be VERY low in or non-existent: i can find shells, bullets and boogers everywhere but when you want me fighting your armies with just the same 4-5 weapons and the ammo i do get for the others that are far in between only fill 5 at a time or most, i end up hording alot more until i just spam 1 of the dozens upon dozens of relics that seem to be in near abundance.

honestly, don't buy this. there are better quake-inspired games out there.

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is a fast-paced shooter, labeled a boomer shooter due to its inspiration from older titles like Doom. The pixel art is fantastic and the weapons look really cool, but that’s about all the positives I could muster during my time with it. Right from the start, the game demands an annoying third-party launcher, something that is always a bad sign. The gunplay itself is very boring; every enemy feels like a health sponge, requiring a large number of bullets in a game where ammo is already scarce. My biggest personal issue, however, is the save system. Saves are extremely limited, forcing you to constantly micromanage ammo, items, and health to an excessive degree while also rationalizing the save consumable. One poorly timed save can potentially block your progress, and worse, you’re not even free to save and quit to do something else without losing progress. It’s crazy that a developer would implement a system like this in a shooter. This game feels like a massive waste of potential.

Decent boomer shooter of the late 90´s era. First area somewhat boring and repetitive. Second area lot better with lots of verticality and third and final area just the usual "hell" theme you expect at the end of your journey.
Some levels are build somewhat way to complex with repetitive patterns halls, makes navigation confusing.

Gun arsenal is what you would expect from a classic boomer shooter with the unique weapon being here your hand blade which you can also use to reach higher and further ground.

I don´t get the reason behind the launcher but despite that I didn´t meet any issues.

Can´t realy say I crave for Wrath 2 or anything as there are better (indie scene has grown wildly big in the last 5 years) boome shooters out there but this one is good...for the right price ofc.

In general it's a not bad game, but I wish some aspects of it were different.
Good part: atmospheric old-school shooter with its own interesting setting and lore, albeit resembling a bit various things like Q1, Unreal, even FromSoft, etc. Definitely was inspired by Wayne Barlow's art. There is a variety of weapons and artifacts, simple quests like 'push buttons' and huuge levels. Design and the idea of the first boss is excellent, a high mark here.
Less good parts: levels are just too huge and exhaustive, with repetitive fights with almost the same set of monsters and weapons for a long time. There are more enemy types with each level, but still there are hordes of them. Saves are consumable items, this is something fresh for Q1-based game, sometimes it works, sometimes is just annoying, especially when there is a lot of jumping on some levels. Levels are so long, that at the end you'll suddenly realize that you totally overlooked the ammo management and has nothing for a fight and need to restart. Monsters have no variety in movements and attacks. They always use exactly the same moves and strategy and it's not the aspect of Q1/Q2 that aged well. Enemy infighting is much more fun in classic Doom than here, many levels could have benefitted from it more (you can trigger infight by using special sort of artefact).
Monsters sometimes do not fit visually to some locations, there is definitely some copy-paste approach. And they tend just to teleport-in and teleport-in, which is no fun 10 hours later.
I wish there was also a bit more of a lore and environmental stuff, like these closing eyes, more non-shooting puzzles or interesting level transitions to make the gameplay less exhausting and repetitive. But there won't be a follow-up.
Game could be recommended for more hardcore shooter players than me.

J'étais super hype par ce jeu il y a quelques années, mais les troubles de son développement se voient rapidement. C'est extrêmement frustrant car il y a une bonne fondation et la direction artistique est vraiment sympa.
- On commence par un tuto plutôt bas de gamme qui nous fait faire quelques mouvement, une sorte de spectre nous raconte ô combien nous sommes l'élu qui va sauver l'univers ou chépakoi.
- On est lâché dans un hub où on doit entrer dans des portails pour choisir notre niveau (comme sur Amid Evil). Le problème c'est qu'on sait pas vraiment par où commencer, on a aucune info et les portails il faut les trouver.
- Entré dans le premier niveau, on a toujours pas d'arme, donc on fait du mêlée pour quelques ennemis avant d'avoir le revolver. Arme un peu nul d'ailleurs, on tue à peine une dizaine d'ennemis avec 100 balles.
- Le pire du pire c'est les niveaux qui sont gigantesque est de vrais labyrinthes, je me perd TOUT LE TEMPS.
- J'ai mis plus de 2 heures à faire le premier niveau
- Toujours à cours de munitions même en faisant attention (je joue en difficile mais quand même)
- L'interface est à revoir complétement, c'est du travail d'amateur, on a 3 boutons tout serrés au milieu de l'écran qui sont un peu vague (begin, return, depart). Pas de "continue" ou "load". Quand on meurt on nous propose de recharger au dernier checkpoint (qui sont manuels et limités, c'est une ressource à récolter), recharger le niveau ou retourner au hub. Le problème c'est que ces boutons pop d'un coup pendant qu'on clique et la souris spawn aléatoirement sur un des 3 donc souvent je recharge le niveau entier plutôt que de recharger le dernier checkpoint.
- Touches pas localisés (on joue en mode qwerty) donc il faut reparamétrer, sauf que les paramètres s'enregistrent pas au prochain lancement.
- Crash régulièrement, 3 fois en 5 heures.
- Le menu "load" c'est F3, je sais pas pourquoi c'est pas dans le menu pause.
- On a pas d'inventaire, donc on sait pas quelles armes on a, sur quel slot, combien de munition.
- Il y a un espèce de codex mais pas de texte, c'est juste des dessins des monstres et des armes, aucune information ici.
- Ils aiment bien faire spawn des ennemis dans le dos ou les placer juste derrière une porte. C'est Serious Sam ici ?
- La seule technique de mouvement c'est l'attaque secondaire de l'arme de mêlée qui nous fait un dash en avant. Pas B-Hop, on a pas d'accélération dans les airs, ni de contrôle aérien d'ailleurs quand on saute on est figé dans notre direction.

Bref je suis déçu, je vais quand même essayer de le finir mais je vais pas m'embêter avec les succès ou des trucs bonus. Je m'attendais a un Quake-like mais à part les graphismes c'en est rien.

Update: J'ai terminé les 5 premiers niveaux et tué le premier boss. C'est claqué au sol j'arrête ici.

Dang! I waited forever to play this (too stuck on Quake), and I waited long enough that by the time I first launched the game, the intrusive new launcher had already been added. I SURVIVED, believe it or not, by clicking "no," and never saw the launcher again (to be fair, you all have every right to be mad at the publisher for tacking that on to something that should be able to launch through the main menu of Quake, or at least as quickly).
I am SERIOUSLY impressed! This is like if Dread Templar stretched that extra 20% to be really good. Love the guns, love the feel, LOVE the enemy designs, and frankly I'm SHOCKED to see that fewer than 10% of owners have made it past the first boss. Act 2's desert setting is a welcome change of pace from Act 1, and I am pumped for the rest of this game.
When you've spent thousands of hours in Quake, sometimes it just feels so good to have something just a little bit different. Nice job!

EDIT: Final boss was gorgeous, loved it!

Really takes be back to playing the original Quake. In contrast, these levels are absolutely massive. Just a few hours in, I feel like I have a lot to go. When I started playing, the game launched and played fine on Linux, then there was some update (where a launcher was added) and it wouldn't launch unless I forced Proton. It's a shame since they went through the trouble of packaging a native Linux version.

I think the choice to add an advertisement filled launcher way after release is really scummy, but I clicked the button to launch the game directly from now on and it worked. The only thing different now is a window that pops up while it's launching and advertises the new publishers. Everything else is just the same as it's always been: a decent boomer shooter type game.

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin

First impressions are incredibly strong, beautiful retro graphics, fun inital weapons, the enemies are varied and can be fun to kill... as you progress though the game keep throwing more and more enemies as a artificial way to pad progression and difficulty, I played for an hour before dieing and sending my A** back to the start of the game.. the save spot i dropped glitched out and ruined (no pun intended) the entire experience.

I will give this a pass but really disappointed with the overall play through, I will give it another shot.

I wish it was more linear, the whole choose which world from the hub is confusing.

You *could* play the game through directly launching the executable and not the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ launcher, but that doesn't 100% fix the issue of it being there, because that's exactly problem: It IS there. Nobody new to steam or computers is gonna know how to do this even, and that makes this even worse because little do we all realise, there are people who technologically inept. That's who that launcher is meant for too.

Bought this a while back to play on Steam Deck and the first couple of hours was ok.

I decided to pick it back up while on holiday and can't actually play it now because the launcher they added to it broke compatibility so it will no longer launch at all on the Deck... Awful, just awful
Lots of posts online to skip the launcher, but the majority that work on desktop don't work in Steam Deck game mode.

I have not seen such complex and interesting levels for a long time. And a nice bonus is that there are plenty wepons that are pleasant to use. Enemis alright, but a little more variations would have helped. Story almost nonexistent, but game does alright whitout it. If you like FPS and pixel graphic you should definitely try this one out.

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is a boomer shooter through and through. with that being said...this title gets a weak thumbs up from me.

If you love boomer shooters that try to be hard for the sake of being hard, this game will fulfill that niche. If you get upset easily at enemies killing you by getting a cheap shot off, you will rage quit this game because this happens OFTEN.

That being said, you can tell this title is a love letter to old school Quake and DOOM. The graphics definitely look like OG Quake, and the enemy types and variety made me feel like i was back in the early 2000's playing Quake for the first time. The environments can be very unique and range from absolute eye candy to "I've seen this place a million times in other games"

The story is unfortunately easily forgettable and for some, the game is very short at roughly 18 hours. I will say that for what the game offers, 18 hours of playtime felt like it was almost starting to overstay its welcome. Again, I cannot understate that this game tries too be hard for the sake of being hard and i found myself getting frustrated during encounters with enemies in tight or compromising areas. A perfect example of this is in the later levels there is a map where a TON of instant death pit traps are everywhere and small platforms to navigate said traps exist. You then have enemies with huge spread shot attacks occupying said areas where you cant strafe to avoid their attacks. you can imagine how this plays out.

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is a pretty firm 6/10. Get it on sale.

Solid boomer built on a modified Quake engine.

The devs added a launcher that borked it on the Deck, where you'd have to hunt down the exe in desktop mode and add it as a non-Steam game.
That's since been 'fixed', but the game still requires proton fixes to boot, which I feel doesn't qualify it for "Verfied" status.

Nonetheless, I do recommend the game.
I just hope they get their act together with this kinda stuff because the fans never react positively.

Игра была многообещающей... лет так 5-6 назад. Огромный мир из взаимосвязанных локаций. Приятная олдскульная картинка, да ещё и движок первой кваки, точнее его навороченная форма Dark Places, никакого тебе Unity или Unreal Engine, что возводит игру в ранг истинного олдскула, даже угрозы разработчиков заставить работать игру на железе конца девяностых. Но разработка шла год, два, сроки всё съезжали, и в итоге я позабыл о ней, решив, что игра померла в производственном аду или просто небытии.
И вот относительно недавно она мне снова попалась на глаза, уже в релизном состоянии. Проблемы начали проявляться уже при запуске. Игра запускалась то со второй, то с третей, то с пятой попытки. Как оказалось, виной всему левый лаунчер, который себя не проявлял при этом. Потом начал нормально появляться, но предлагал себя отключить и всегда запускать игру напрямую, что на деле всегда игнорировал и продолжал запускаться.
Ну да ладно. Вступление приятное, мрачный мир, напоминающий Hexen 1 и 2, центральная локация, объединяющая между собой 5 других, которые можно проходить в любом порядке. Тут и болотные топи, и заснеженная церквушка с прилегающим кладбищем. Но после прохождения первого акта становятся хорошо видны проблемы игры: в первом же уровне игра выдаёт все оружия первого акта и показывает всех врагов, которые там есть, остальные 4 уровня не привносят в игровой процесс вообще ничего нового. Ничего нового на протяжении 5 часов игры, верно. При этом локации хоть и имеют численность 300+ врагов, при этом кажутся совсем пустыми и неоправданно раздутыми. После прохождения всех 5 уровней следует актовый босс, в целом неплохой, претензий нет. Но потом следует второй акт и всё становится только хуже. Следующая пачка карт стала раза в два крупнее, количество врагов 400-700 на каждой, но при этом кажущиеся ещё более пустыми, занимая при этом минимум час каждая. Нововведений, конечно, гораздо меньше при этом. Два новых вида оружия и три вида врагов. И всё это на часов 10 игры. Третий акт не ударяется в такой же гигантизм, но из нового только одно оружие и два новых врага, причём два новых врага второго акта в третьем не появляются. При всём этом игра не справляется с созданием разнообразных боевых ситуаций, уникальных противников, которые бы принципиально меняли условия боя всего несколько штук, остальные же - это условные "имп" и "какодемон" с разной живучестью и областью поражения. Бои вообще ощущаются очень однообразными. Арсенал вызывает смешанные впечатления, на одно хорошее решение вроде альтернативного режима стрельбы из двухстволки находится неудачное вроде бесполезного гранатомёта, который используешь только когда хочешь избавиться от скопившихся патронов. Но сама стрельба ощущается хорошо, да и запороть базу Quake ещё постараться надо.
Нововведение с ограничением количества сохранений (которое, кажется, отключаемое) не вызывает особых нареканий, количество доступных сохранений быстро достигает максимума, а сложность боёв относительно низкая, даже на максимальной из доступных для первого прохождения сложностей.
Зачем было так раздувать игру, если понимаешь, что ты просто не вывозишь такой масштаб ни по срокам, ни по наполнению - загадка. А игра очередной яркий пример того, что больше - далеко не всегда значит лучше.

Fulqrum Publishing and Slopgate Ironworks attached themselves to this game like a leech and made it horrible by adding a launcher that PREVENTS YOU FROM PLAYING THE GAME. This newer version is also detected by multiple antivirus programs as SENDING OUT MY COMPUTERS DATA TO THE PUBLISHER. This is unacceptable and a breach of privacy.

Anything that Slopgate Ironworks touches turns to trash, they are a shady and corrupt company that will do anything for a quick buck. I used to like this game, but now it's awful. Don't buy anything from Fulqrum or Slopgate.

首先作为老学校射击游戏，游戏本身的底子是不错的，地图和隐藏要素设计都很不错，但是战斗流程设计太过于重复了，探索，关门打狗，探索，关门打狗，然后地图隐藏的探索奖励就只是存档点，图腾道具或者资源。
这些东西在低难度下完全没用，高难度过程中又不足以弥补探索中的消耗。地图的环形回路和捷径本身其实是优秀的，但每个地方都是厕所一样的战斗堆怪会相当疲劳，更别提高难度下存档数量有限，随便一个拐角被怪卡主就只能等死的挫败感，特别是那个飞行三头怪，妈的远程伤害高，近战高伤害，移动速度比地上冲锋铁头还快，体积大的还会卡住你，游戏又没有武器轮盘，根本没法快速近战逃脱。花了两个小时开最高难度打完第一张图已经人麻了，重新开了一个简单难度档，又发现因为全是厕所战斗，打完第一波五张图已经完全审美疲劳了，后面打完第一个boss发现成就解锁数量才8%，到了第二章地图看见又有五个传送门等着我通马桶，直接关游戏了。

Like many boomer shooters, this one is nothing fancy but it's pretty fun to play, the later weapons are pretty unique, only real criticism is the controls are a little slippery. But other than that, it's solid.

This works on Steam Deck again after the update but they chose the wrong Proton so it still will not launch unless you change the Proton.

They fixed Graven correctly and it defaults to Proton 10 but this one defaults to Linux 3.0 Sniper that does not work. I used Proton Experimental and it launches fine now after the update.

The game is actually good. I played on PS5, but as that version has no FOV slider (boo!) I couldn't play long without motion sickness.

You royally c0cked this experience up with your sh!tty launcher that doesn't let you bypass it, despite having a worthless option that trolls you into thinking so. Morons.

To run WRATH: Aeon of Ruin without the Fulqrum Launcher, you can bypass it by setting a custom launch option:

1. Open your Steam Library.
2. Right-click WRATH: Aeon of Ruin and select Properties.
3. In the General tab, find the Launch Options field.
4. Enter the path to the game’s executable followed by `%command%`. For example:
```
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\WRATH\Wrath.exe" %command%
```
Replace the path with the actual location of `Wrath.exe` on your system. You can find it by navigating to the game’s installation folder (right-click the game in Steam > Manage > Browse local files).

5. Close the Properties window and launch the game. It should now run directly without the Fulqrum Launcher.

This method works because the launcher was added post-release, and Steam can be configured to run the game’s main executable instead. If the game doesn’t launch, double-check the file path for accuracy.

Не втянулся , в общем в игру . Хотя какой прикольный трейлер по этой игре . Я столкнулся с такой проблемой , что я потерялся на первом же уровне , на старте игры прямо . Интуитивно не понятно куда идти , что делать? Ну порезал нежитей , и что дальше? Не хватает радара , навигатора , подсказок .
Эта тенденция во многих бумерских шутерах , но опять же не во всех . Возврат средств делаю в общем .

I've been waiting a long time to pick up Wrath, which has been sitting in my wishlist since its announcement. As an old-school FPS player and fan of Quake 1 (and its Arcane Dimension mod), I was hyped for it. Unfortunately, the cold shower came quickly.

[*]The environments are gorgeous—some levels feel like straight-up black magic they're so beautiful—but they're extremely annoying to navigate, the complete opposite of fun.
If you're new to the genre, steer clear: it's labyrinthine and massive. Expect 30-45 minutes per map.
[*]The soundtrack, composed by Andrew Hulshut, didn't really stick with me. It's a blend of Quake 1 and Amid Evil—pure ambiance, no killer riffs. And that's fine, but a few more aggressive tracks wouldn't have hurt the game.
[*]There are plenty of weapons, but none stood out. Not because of their designs, but because everything feels soft. There's zero satisfaction in shooting or hitting enemies—no punch, no feedback.
[*]Ammo can be scarce in some levels, forcing you to cycle through all your guns.
[*]No classic rocket launcher (there's a big lava projectile launcher in Act 2... but don't expect anything mind-blowing).
[*]Every monster is a real threat.
[*]The save system is a nightmare for this kind of game. To save in a old-school way, you need "currency" that gets consumed each time. So if you hesitate to save because you're at full HP, only to die seconds later to some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trap (the game occasionally thinks he is Dark Souls), it can be frustrating as hell to replay huge chunks of a level. (Veterans probably won't mind.)

[*]I'll skip the chests that give nothing and require hidden keys tucked away in the level (total time sink), or the artifacts, which I only used to cheese the trap sections.

Finally, the game is way too long. Whether it's the first or last level, you'll be doing the exact same thing for 11-12 hours, even with solid exploration.
It's long, it's mushy, the mappers' talent elevates it... but after the first 3 hours, it's an endlessly tedious loop.

Oh, and the double-barrel shotgun sucks. (shame)

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it: I had a bad time. I was hoping throughout those 12 hours to be surprised by something—anything!—with every new map, monster, or weapon… in vain.

Скорее нейтрально-негативный отзыв, потому что в игре есть много неплохих задумок, но лично я устал от:
- огромных локаций. например, на одной карте второго акта почти 450(!) противников. и это не мелкие червячки, которых можно сотнями мочить, wrath — не арена шутер, не клон сэма. сюда же добавьте отсутствие карты, запутанность многих мест и тупо лишняя сложность из-за разных высот. упал — беги две минуты через унылые запутанные коридоры
- скользкого мувмента. это к предыдущему тейку про "упал" — герой тут бежит как угарелый, и это круто, динамично, но также он обладает нехилой инерцией, из-за чего падения, соскальзывания и кривой платформинг неизбежны
- лишней сложности в виде ограниченных сохранений. да, это можно убрать в настройках, но тут либо зассал-либо мужык
- общей скучности происходящего. абсолютно боковая история, медленный темп прогрессии (новые пушки)

из хорошего:
- приятная стрельба
- мувмент, когда дело не касается платформинга
- атмосфера — иногда мир радует крутыми локациями и приятным эмбиентом

They added a launcher 2 years after the game's release, where upon clicking on the tiny, grey "Launch the game directly" button buried underneath the launcher button, the game simply simply doesn't launch. You can bypass this by going into Steam Properties -> Launch Options and copying the folder path where your .exe file is, and adding "%command%" at the end of the path, and the game will run by itself, properly.

Onto the game itself: It feels more like a collectathon with randomly spawning enemies than a coordinated FPS game. The movement is a lot of fun, you're put into large levels with many secret paths and shortcuts to unlock, and your only objective is to find an item at the end of the maps, basically. The enemies feel like they're there for show, and their damage values (depending on the type of enemy, that is, there's a lot of variety when it comes to them) are all over the place, no matter the difficulty you play on. You'll most likely repeatedly pick up abundant healing items while being torn apart by enemies, somehow never dying, but always with fluctuating health.

It's a mixed feeling, because the movement, the levels, the combat itself, the world you explore, the premise, the overall enjoyment is there, but it's tedious to go through with the haphazard enemies that feel like spawning just to be there, to justify the genre the game supposedly is.

There is a gimmick in the game where you have limited saves, and you have to pick up a stackable item in order to save within the game. In the options menu, you can give yourself infinite saves, but every launch will untick that option for you, and you'll have to enable it over and over again.

Muy buen FPS estilo retro con unos niveles increiblemente diseñados y una estetica oscura gore, multitud de retos y secretos por niveles, enemigos que acojonan como la loca gritona o el bicho gordo volador que le da el siroco y te ataca gritandote en tu cara; y para reventar a esta gentuza tienes variedad de armas y habilidades muy divertidas de utilizar.

Completado en normal y pasándolo canutas en muchos momentos; el juego es bastante rejugable por sus diferentes dificultades y la motivación de sacar todas las zonas al 100%.

Si no eres una persona absurda y te gustan este tipo de juegos, lánzate a por él de cabeza. Lo digo para que no te dejes guiar por las reseñas de gente que juega una hora o menos y le da negativo.

Бумер шутер средней руки.

Сильная сторона: он ощущается одновременно и как Heretic, и как Quake. Враги прут напролом, больно кусают, графон как в конце 90-х. Машина времени, не иначе. Мувмент ближе к Heretic — быстрый, но топорный. Нет такого контроля в воздухе и внятного bunnyhopping'а, как в Quake.

Слабая сторона: быстро наскучивает.
