Slow and incredible grindy with no content to look into. The trade commissions are so ridiculously small and the cargo space limited to one unit of traded good in the quest stack. With 10 times the profit rate it could be tolerable, not like this.

Everything is as slow as molasses and there is a floaty feel to everything. It might look okay, though has no engaging game feel when you actually play it. It has the "meet the kickstarter promises" feel to it where things such as the naval battles technically are there, though they feel like something quickly made for a mobile game. The cake is hollow.

"Windward" é aquele tipo de jogo que te transporta para uma era de exploração naval com uma leveza e uma liberdade que raramente vemos em simuladores de navegação. O foco aqui é muito mais na progressão e no comércio (estilo Sandbox) do que em uma simulação técnica e pesada de velas, ao contrário de títulos mais rígidos como "Sid Meier’s Pirates!". Apesar da proposta mais relaxante, creio que os apreciadores de jogos de conquista territorial e gerenciamento também irão apreciar a profundidade que Windward oferece conforme você expande sua influência pelo mapa.

Eu disse que este jogo é mais focado em progressão, mas é claro que há estratégia envolvida, tanto na customização da sua nau quanto na abordagem das batalhas navais. O jogador pode optar por ser um comerciante pacífico, focando apenas em suprir a demanda das cidades, ou participar ativamente de combates para libertar regiões das mãos de piratas. Escolhendo a luta em alto-mar, não basta somente atirar com os canhões; é preciso observar a direção do vento, escolher o tipo de munição e gerenciar as habilidades da tripulação. Então não são apenas decisões de combate imediato; cada porto que você ajuda a crescer é um investimento de longo prazo que vai liberar melhores equipamentos e navios maiores.

A jogabilidade é bastante fluida e, na minha opinião, um dos pontos altos: o controle do navio é intuitivo, mas exige que você entenda a inércia na água. É mostrado o alcance dos canhões e a saúde das embarcações de forma clara; quando um inimigo está sob seu fogo cruzado, a sensação de impacto é gratificante. No entanto, se você não for cuidadoso com o posicionamento e acabar cercado em águas profundas, sua frota pode ser enviada para o fundo do mar rapidamente. Houve situações em que subestimei uma pequena escuna pirata e acabei perdendo o progresso de uma carga valiosa, o que ensina que o respeito pelo mar é fundamental.

Ainda sobre a jornada, aqui há um conceito muito importante, que é o desenvolvimento das facções. Como o mapa é gerado proceduralmente, cada partida parece nova e o moral da sua facção é relevante para o controle do mapa. Se você ajudar uma cidade a prosperar, ela se defende melhor sozinha; se você ignorar os pedidos de socorro, o moral da região cai e os piratas dominam tudo. O mais importante é que você pode jogar de forma cooperativa ou competitiva, e na minha opinião, convidar amigos para formar uma frota torna a experiência muito mais rica — aconselho a não tentar conquistar as regiões mais perigosas sozinho, pois o poder de fogo inimigo escala rápido.

Para finalizar, outra coisa que eu gostei: a beleza simples do jogo. Na navegação, não fique apenas focado nos números; observe os reflexos na água e as mudanças de clima enquanto viaja de um continente a outro. Você não precisará decorar manuais complexos de navegação, basta sentir o vento e decidir qual será o seu legado nos sete mares.

Sigh, i really liked WIndward at start and for good chunk of playtime, but… developers kinda abandoned game by that point already, so no new content and no fixes for bugs that were left. But still, it’s a neat pirate game, kinda, where you command ship and sail through maps doing quests, trading, exploring, hunting pirates and bosses.

So Windward is a little open world procedurally generated naval arcade game, with a bit of rpg. You mostly develop your ship with new “gear” parts, not by actually lvling it and learning skills or assigning attribute points. There are some options regarding skills you could use, but they are quite few to choose from and generally about what kind of big cannonade you could use every few seconds. Trading and quests are viable mostly in early game or to gain faction reputation, best gear you get from powerful pirate boss ships drops. Fighting them is quite fun at first, but longer you play and higher lvl opponent you encounter more evident it becomes that those are staying the same, just getting insane amount of hp and bigger dmg, not new mechanics or interesting tactics, they just become bullet sponges. There are some bugs that are most evident in combat and unfortunately mostly left alone without fixing. As you might have noticed mmorpg and multiplayer tag - yes, it’s present, instead of your own procedurally generated world, you could join public one with other people in it, but activities are exactly same as in single player and enemies scaling is done in best Windward tradition by just making them much fatter and more damaging.

Audio is nothing to write home about, don't expect pirate shanties or anything of likes, it would probably get annoying pretty fast considering how repetitive it is. Sounds are roughly sameish.

Graphics are done in pretty standardy looking top down 3d manner, after looking at screenshot, you’d get sense that you’ve already seen that style somewhere and not just once. There is not much of distinctive style and neither were the looks great when it released, even less so now.

Plot is not present i think, cant recall anything about it being in the game at all, though there shouldn’t be much of an issue regarding it.

Цена у игры была адекватная, теперь это некий элемент борьбы, я полагаю.

Значит и отзыв я оставлю отрицательный, ибо игра хоть и с потенциалом, хоть я и провёл в ней время с удовольствием (ещё и в компании друзей), но она все равно довольно сырая и пустоватая. Понятно, что расчет не на то, что вы втроём будете играть, но я все равно не вижу причин поддержать разраба, который так ко мне отнёсся.

Вторая часть не лучше, а даже скорее хуже, ибо лагает жутко.

Я осознаю, что это только для ру региона они так задрали цену и я бы кучу всего игре простил и не смотря на бедное наполнение порекомендовал, но по цене ААА проекта продавать виндвард это просто издевательство.

When I last played the cargo missions and trade network were confusing but I managed to figure out at least 65% of the game. repetitive and not multiplayer friendly. it a grind only because the lack of excitement. I feel like it looked better than it ended up being. Unless they do some kind of relaunch or make some major changes, I can't see picking this game back up.

Windward erinnert mich ein wenig an ein Spiel von der Demo-CD der PlayStation 1 und vermittelt mir dadurch einen starken nostalgischen Touch. Gleichzeitig hat das Spiel natürlich deutlich mehr zu bieten als ein simples PS1-Demo-Game.

Man blickt aus der Vogelperspektive auf sein Schiff, bekämpft Piraten (oder wird selbst zum Piraten), erobert Orte, liefert Waren von Hafen zu Hafen und verbessert dabei stetig sein Schiff. Im Kern fühlt es sich ein wenig an wie Diablo auf hoher See: Man erhält immer bessere Ausrüstung für sein Schiff und wird von einem sehr motivierenden Gameplay-Loop getragen.

很好玩，买的那个贵的版本也不知道给的啥，反正没看到，当然几十块也没啥，属于给童年回忆补票了，小时候拿手机可爱玩这个游戏了，汉化去社区拿，我用了没什么问题。其实内容没那么多，本质有点像刷装备。难度可以自调，不用太折磨自己。

Macht auf jeden Fall Spaß, wenn man es mal halbwegs verstanden hat. Kratzt überall nur an der Oberfläche und ist schon sehr Mainstream gehalten. Man kann für eine Nation spielen und/oder (!) als Pirat die Gegenunsicher machen.
Man kann JEDERZEIT die Nation ändern bzw. Pirat werden (mit Ruhetimer).
Ab einer gewissen Stufe muss man höherstufige Schiffe zerstören um die Blaupause dazu zu finden um an bessere Schiffe zu kommen.
Ein schönes Spiel für Zwischendurch um die Meere unsicher zu machen. Langzeitmotivation hält sich leider in Grenzen, auch wenn ich schon ziemlich weit bin.

Man hat bei dem Spiel leider SEHR viel Potenzial verschenkt. Schade!

Very simple, cozy game.

The gameplay loop is addicting: every town has a quest board and trading needs, which link to others towns requests. Planning your travels around the links between various cities needs both create a sense of an alive world and leans towards a nice, emergent strategy depth.
Combat doesn't have much depth and quickly became tedious for me.

I can see myself playing this game a lot when in need of a relaxing time.

For 10 bucks its not bad. Its what I would call a "cozy" game.
Something you do when you're not wanting to think too hard and have a Youtube Video or audiobook in the background while playing.
Took me 50 hours to 100% the achievements. They are all easily doable except the end game ones.
Multiplayer is dead. I encountered 2 people who were chill and helped me get the one PVP achievement. (The other two can be done solo, just on a multiplayer server)

Overall I had fun. But now that im done it's not something I would pick up again. One and done kinda game.

A simple and fun sailing game where you can trade, quest, and fight. That's basically it. You can place structures and fight over maps, but this can lead to permanent crippling effects on the maps themselves as structures can permanently debilitate the cities that populate the world. Factions don't do anything by themselves (except pirates), and they only do anything in maps that have players. So, despite this supporting singleplayer, this game is really intended for a packed lobby of many players playing a PvP experience for anything to really happen. The AI to fill in that gap does not exist. It feels very incomplete due to that, and nobody plays the game anymore to give you the experience it is actually coded for. $10 for that is not very enticing, no. I wouldn't recommend it at that price.

累计玩了14个小时（单机模式），成就完成了19/31（剩下的都是堆时间和联机的成就），以下是我的评价：

优点：
游戏大小不超过130MB，但几乎涵盖了航海游戏的所有核心要素：贸易、交战、探索、任务、船只/装备升级，可以说是简化版的《大航海时代》。
游戏画面和音乐都很不错，我个人很喜欢。

缺点：
游戏内容略显单调，玩了三四个小时后就发现基本没有新内容了，完全就是重复做任务、跑贸易、探索海图、升级船只装备，期间穿插一些战斗；游戏本身没有剧情设定，游戏中的声望值、经验值和技能系统也无法改变单调的玩法。
创意工坊的某些MOD和游戏内容有冲突，打了MOD之后游戏中的声望值会出现错误，导致到港后接不了任务、做不了贸易。
游戏定价偏高（￥48），就目前所呈现的游戏内容而言，我个人认为其合理价位应该在￥24以内，历史最低价位是￥15。

总而言之，Windward是一款风格独特的“小”游戏，它的优点和缺点都十分突出。对我而言，Windward是我在玩腻各种游戏大作时的调剂，就如同一桌大鱼大肉之间的蔬果拼盘，它让我在无聊时可以悠闲地听听音乐、跑跑船、打打海盗，这就是我最终选择“推荐”的理由。

Great game to zone out with. I like to catch up on my music backlog, personally.

It is *very* grind-heavy. Be prepared for a lot of repetitive fetch questing. A lot of the late-game stuff costs a lot of gold to unlock, and getting that gold will be something you likely can't do in a single session.

Игра отлично подходит для расслабленного времяпрепровождения, но только в кооперативе. AI us dumb, your allies block you in fights, and won't listen to instructions when you send them somewhere.

Windward – Un petit jeu sympa de batailles navales. ⛵💥

J’ai bien aimé. C’est relax, mais avec juste assez d’action pour être prenant. Tu navigues, tu explores, tu commerces, et surtout… tu coules des bateaux ennemis. Beaucoup. 😆💀

Le gameplay est simple mais efficace : tu upgrades ton navire, tu t’allies avec des factions, et tu fais la loi sur les mers… ou tu finis en épave si t’as mal joué. Les combats sont funs, et même si ça manque peut-être un peu de profondeur, ça reste ultra satisfaisant de voir un ennemi couler sous tes canons. 💣🔥

Bref, 7/10, un bon petit jeu naval pour se détendre tout en foutant la pagaille en haute mer. 🌊😆

There are some good concepts here, but they've missed the mark a bit. To have a gameplay loop like this feel good, the world needs to be interesting. The world is very bland, basic procedural, which would require much more on the gameplay side to work. I hope they pursue one of these avenues in the sequel, I feel it could work either way.

I don't know why this title got abandoned...it had an INCREDIBLE bones, to build a solid title, but somehow, they (he) just released some sort of demo/game.
Basically, you just float around picking up useless crates, get involved in a few skirmishes, and run transport quests, sometimes taking ports.
Its fun, if you want to play an ARCADE style ship combat game, with no true purpose....but other than that, its not a FULL GAME by any means.

I recommend buying it, but I also warn you against it. The combat is basic and kind of fun...but no purpose to game other than that. I don't understand why it got abandoned, damn shame....only had to add a few things to find a purpose to finish the game, but NOPE. Just straight up dropped project in steam and left.

STEAM should not try to sell these as if it was a game, it should go in the LOST AND FOUND section (its not real, but STEAM should make one for titles like this - A Game you can play, but it's not finished, and it got dropped in a dumpster).

Don't buy it unless under $6. Even $7 is too much to pay.

With the sequel on the horizon, no pun intended, it was fitted to to a quick review.

Windward could be described as a micro MMORPG/sandbox naval ship themed game.

You start choosing a faction, with a minor difference between them, and later can be freely changed, or a pirate. Set sail to a basic procedure generated set of maps and do whatever you want. You can earn gold through trades, quest, looting random boxes around the sea and pirate hunting.

Controlling your ship can be done via WASD or even just the mouse. Since the basic attack are triggered automatically, you will spend most of the time trying to use your skills in the best way possible and avoiding the other ships attacks that have the same attacks and skills as you.

There isn't a story in game or any end goal set, other than getting max level if you want. Most quests are considered basic even to a 2015 game: fetch quests, hunt a enemy, defend a city. You can create, in the server that you are connected, 3 types of instances of a quick map that does not interfere with the global map and you may invite other players that are in the server as well to your instance. Your ship have 5 customizable color parts: two for the sails, two for the hull/ship and a emblem, the only thing is that you have to find other colors/emblem as loot.

Highly recommend playing in coop since the game loop is rather short so having other players/friends with you make a better experience. You can join public servers or create you own (P2P or dedicated). The one issue that happened to me was that trying to create a P2P server I was not able to let other players join and there is an issue with dedicated server that it does not have a password system and setting it to not show on the master server I could not join it. But due to a lack of players playing this game, at most I had two other players in my server, having a "private" game is not a issue.

After around 50-60 hours of gameplay, I was able to get all the achievements using the default game settings. You can change the game parameters to allow faster experience gain and combat difficult in your server/world. The only thing that I never saw was a couple of events that needs more players to trigger, not even as the server admin I was able to summon a couple enemies/events to check how they are in game. Also is possible to add custom emblems to you server.

Music could only be described as the most basic music set possible to a pirate game. Outside of combat, the little music that the game have did make me drowsy quickly, so I had to mute it and play other music that I have of my choice.

By the time of this review, I am on level 90 but I am aware that there is a little bit more content above level 100 to 150, max level being 750 I think. This is important because if you connect to a server or let your server open to anyone, someone may connect to your server using few ships that I would consider a spoiler for newer players.

I can recommend this game for players wanting a simple light hearted MMORPG naval game when played with friends.

I think most people will find enjoyment in this game. The game environment is pleasant to cruise around in and the music is quite relaxing. The sea combat is a lot of fun, but the AI is pretty dumb leading to some lacklustre sea combat. I find more enjoyment in trading and doing task to develop my empire. There are a ton of ways to modify your ship and the map settings leading to hours of replay ability.

It's an old game but I really like how calming it is. You have to grind a lot, but I find it really satisfying when you buy a new ship or take over a town or defeat a pirate. I have some complaints with the game but overall it's super fun, relaxing, and it's not difficult to play.
