Storyline

Wildmender is a game about bringing a deserted world back to life. Explore the vast desert, alone or with friends. Collect plants and bring them back to your garden to thrive. Craft new tools and use them to shape the earth, and channel water to your plants. Delve into the mysteries of a fallen civilization and discover their magic. Befriend animals, spirits, and seek out the gods to help you defend the land from the vicious wraiths who seek to corrupt it. It’s up to you to save the world, one seed at a time.

It's pretty great. The progression is solid, the world interesting, and it's satisfying to see how you can restore life to the desert. There are some issues like lingering corruption, managing inventory, and getting attacked even after you beat the game, but that's relatively minor. By the end, you're flying around easily creating vast expanses of life.

This game is really fun, once you know what you’re doing. But trying to learn it was actually so hard. The game is really vague with the instructions, and you don’t get many tips (if any) on where to find stuff, how to do certain things etc. The player base seems rather small, so google isn’t always helpful. There are some things you encounter early on but only learn how to deal with them waaay later. And the game doesn’t really tell you that you should leave this be for now, so you try different approaches, you experiment, and it leads nowhere leaving you frustrated. There are also some things that you absolutely can do early on, but they were difficult to figure out so I just left those quests for later, only to later realize that it all could’ve been done 20 hours ago. I wasn’t really sure if I should give it a positive or negative review after all this, but honestly once I figured things out somehow, the game was actually so fun to play. Even while I still struggled with things I didn’t understand, there was always plenty of other things to do, so I could just keep playing without feeling like I’m completely stuck and can’t progress. The story and the whole concept seems pretty unique. Don’t really expect a farming simulator, you don’t really get to plant crops or anything. You mostly plant trees, grass, bushes, and you mostly eat seeds, sometimes some fruits too. This is a survival game so things will get damaged, plants might die or require healing, the environment is hostile, sometimes you’ll get attacked too (but the game will warn you beforehand). If you’re just looking for a farming simulator, this is probably not it. You'll have to put some effort into trying to protect things, but it’s also not too difficult and I never had to worry too much. There's this sense of struggle, but your work will never feel like it's pointless (at least it never happened to me). It’s satisfying how the world changes once you unlock more options and fix the problems. With time it'll become less barren and will come back to life, to some extent at least. I also liked how there are mechanics to reduce the grind. At first I was worried it’ll get too grindy with all the things that need to be done, but you get more resources as you progress. Despite all the frustration at the beginning I generally enjoyed it in the end.

Приобрела игру, для игры с подругой. Были проблемы с подключением с самого начала, обратилась в поддержку и они помогли решить вопрос буквально за час. Необходимо было выбрать сервер подключения. Но на этом проблемы не кончились и каждый раз приходилось перезаходить и переподключаться потому что игра лагала и выдавал баги. Однако, это не сильно помешало и игру мы всё таки прошли, с миссиями отдельная эпопея, которая продолжать первые 10 часов игры, не понятно что делать, куда идти, что искать. Но благо разобрались. Графика и сад просто фантастические. Смешанные впечатления от игры, но в принципе нам понравилось. Наверное чисто визуал вывозил и сюжет.

This game could definitely do with less healthbars and less enemies, then maybe it would be fun. 5/10.

What I liked:
- Variety of plantlife to plant in your oasis.
- Technically fair enemy design, fun combat*
- Landscaping tool(s) are straightforward.
- Fun and useful spells.
- Impactful environmental hazards.
- If you die, you don't lose your tools.
- Fast travelling makes dying less of an issue.

What I didn't like:
- *While the combat is fun, it's often unfair with how many enemies appear.
- If you defeat wraiths near your oasis, prepare for a few plants (or trees) to die because they bleed corruption which for some reason cannot be removed early in the game, or I've missed something important.
- Wraith attacks aren't a big deal really, but why are they announced 30 minutes before they appear? They don't even attack your gardens, they attack you.
- No food related recipes in the first 10 hours of playing, honestly I don't even know if they exist, and no I'm not checking the wiki.
- Objects you place like walls and paths can break, and repairing them is awkward. They don't technically degrade over time, but with the amount of tumbleweeds and sandstorms they will regardless.
- The tiny healthbars hovering over all the objects that lost health is kinda intrusive if you don't have the unlocks to repair them.
- Colliders of larger plants can be awkward to position and rotate because you don't get to see a preview of what it'll look like when you move it. You do get a preview for all objects, so why not for plants as well?

The moment I stopped playing:
- The second boss fight has way too many enemies. There's also an enemy that drains your water from a distance, which is especially unfair in the environment of that boss fight which already drains your water quicker. I don't think the boss is impossible to beat, but it isn't fun, so I stopped playing.

This game fulfills a strong desire to start a garden from absolute scratch and watch it grow. I absolutely enjoyed every hour until the last event which I disliked for what it did to my 50 previous hours of work. The plants are pretty, the world is fun to explore, and the power-ups are great.

The cons are simple enough though:
- There's not enough decorations for a game about building elaborate gardens and the devs have basically finished the game and have left for other projects so never expect an update on that
- I wish the spirits you found actually told stories that world built deeper than "things were good before evil mages attacked", and "we made mistakes".
- I want the oasis' to connect once restored so I don't just walk out of a jungle into a desert all the time.
- Bro messed up my garden so badly I stopped playing even though I still had a few objectives I intended to complete
- What even is plant crossbreeding for hybrids? I went the entire game and only ever successfully produced one Cutting Dunegrass Hybrid. I know you're supposed to put specific plant types next to each other, but I never once found any other hybrid produced by doing so.

It is overall a good game, and I do recommend it, but without the decor it deserves the mid-to-late game kind of stagnants.

Hab versucht bei dem Spiel durch zu blicken, man muss ein Land rehydrieren, Pflanzen und bäume anbauen um einen Lebensbaum. Grafisch gut, Spielmechanik auch gut. Aber k.a. wies nach kurzer zeit weiter geht, dann wieder gelöscht. Für Kinder bestimmt eine gute Beschäftigung, für Erwachsene ehr nicht.

This excellent little game is only limited by its short length. My wife and I beat it in just under 14 hours, which, considering what I paid for it, is fine. But the game felt like it ended just as I was starting to get into it. We weren't exactly completionists, but I did do all of the main side quests to improve the extra items and cleaned up a few areas we frequented most. Even a small epilogue coda quest that asks the player to terraform a certain amount of spring areas to see a hidden ending or something would go a long way in incentivizing the postgame.

Tldr: Fun cozy game, but keep in mind that the main quest is short.

A masterpiece. I mean it. I think I have found "my game" in Wildmender; I have never been so addicted to base building or any sort of survival game (note that you can turn the survival features off but I actually found them engaging enough with how they interact with the other mechanics to leave them on).

The fluid dynamics of water are so fun to play with, I get immense satisfaction from transforming an exploited wasteland into a lush, diverse environment. So far (30 hours in) I am only about halfway through the questline, instead spending most of my time base building or "oasis crafting".

The exploration is fantastic, and while navigation can be a bit tedious at first the tools you unlock from the main quest solve that quickly.

I only have good things to say about this game. I hope that the devs either continue expanding it or use this as a foundation for an even loftier project (think this but with multiple species of animals, expanding breeding and genetics system for plants, further incorporation of fungi and mycorrhizae, more weather events and rain, etc etc). Absolutely a 10/10 for me.

Absolutely phenomenal game. Fun story, and it's so much fun getting to watch the world come back to life. I play alone but could absolutely see it being phenomenal multiplayer. It is my current hyperfixation on my Steam Deck, would absolutely recommend!

Do you wanna try some local terraforming? This is the game for you! Your main goal is to convert desert back into habitable land for yourself. Water is the limited resource for expanding your bases, if you want to manually water past standing water you can!

超級不推薦，前期會覺得好玩，畢竟是開放世界。但是到後面作業感超重，動不動就叫你南北跑，重點移動速度很慢(即便有道具)，再者這個遊戲的引導性差到一個靠北，放一個任務給你，然後任務範圍大概10公里吧，超爛。真的建議不要下載。

I do enjoy playing this game. The music and visuals and garden creation is just so lovely!

My only issue is with the pacing of the game progression. It really feels like you unlock everything all at once at the end of the story part of the game. It was frustrating to know I had a tool that would not unlock it's full potential until the end of the game.

I would have preferred to be able to use these tools at their full potential when the character first receives them. That would have made better sense in my mind. In hindsight I can see why it would be leveled up in the way it was, but by the time you get this leveled up tool, it's just too little too late.

Going back into the game after the story is just heartbreaking, and the continued attacks feel like no progression was made.

I play for the chance to make a garden that I love and listen to the music. Slowly turning desert areas green.

I played it co-op and we had a great time planting our garden and exploring the world.
