I really enjoyed this game, perfect for when you want to play a chill, non-twitchy game. When you create a party they are very basic personality-wise, but as they go through their adventures and the story develops it is really interesting to watch them grow. Or lose limbs, gain transformations, fall in love, gain powerful artifacts, etc. The random events can get kind of repetitive the longer that you play, but overall it is a lot of fun. Some of the campaigns have better writing than others, but over all they are fairly interesting. I actually picked this game to play to have something to play while folding clothes, and it is perfect for that. Or any other task where you may have to walk away for a minute or two. It will wait for you as long as it needs to. The art style is beautiful, and pretty unique with the paper doll aspect. They made really interesting sets too, and the stories are varied. I would definitely recommend.

I thought having procedurally generated story elements would make the plot boring and meaningless, but it's more like a Crusader Kings-style RPG. The writing is very well done and detailed. The random events combine to form narratives that end up being pretty compelling, especially if your characters have children who grow up and join the party too.

The combat, gear upgrades, equipment and such are a challenging enough puzzle to require some strategy. The music is cool. The 2D/paper-cutout art style is unique. Overall I think it's an enjoyable game, both as singleplayer and multiplayer.

My only gripe is that the UI in multiplayer is a bit fiddly. People can't act simultaneously in battle, and some actions (crafting?) seem to steal focus from other people's cursors. Also, there seem to be glitches sometimes when reading the story panels in multiplayer, where one or more players aren't shown the story segment and don't get to read it. There are some other instability issues, crashes, and minor bugs that I trust will be patched over time.

Please add all of the frogs you can. It helps with my friend's roleplay.

This game is perfect for people who enjoy DnD but have a difficult time with the RP part or in general don't have a group to play with. The storylines are great and honestly I would love to see more added even if it's in a paid DLC. Love playing it with a group of friends.

Bad game. I wanted to like it and there are some neat features, but the combat is so clunk and the gameplay loop is frustrating. Plus, there is zero actual onboarding that helps you understand how to play the game. I mostly sat there clicking through options without any clarity on the ranges of my abilities and spells, unable to understand how the flow of combat plays out or the consequences of specific actions.

It's just a terrible version of Fire Emblem, with an AI-script style story generator that feels generic, and a lot of frustrating interactions or consequences that you cannot undo. At the very least, they could let you undo choices and decisions so that you don't lose an entire campaign to not understanding their awful combat systems or game mechanics.

I'm literally reading Reddit pages just to try and understand what keywords in their game mean, as nothing is explained in the actual game.

Combattimenti troppo ripetitivi, ma soprattutto la parte di storia è noiosissima e i dialoghi sono terribili.

Ci sono anche vari tempi di attesa per ogni attività fuori combat e la "personalizzazione" dei personaggi è quasi inesistente: esteticamente cambi maschio/femmina, i capelli (e non ce n'è nemmeno un tipo davvero lungo), e la pelle. Meccanicamente alla creazione scegli solo tra 3 classi, ma nient'altro. Poi ogni livello scegli tra 3 abilità casuali, che come idea è anche buona, ma ho trovato solo opzioni quasi sempre inutili.

I didnt cared for this game beforehead because of that silly paper comic graphics -looked like game for kids. Luckily after playing ""The dungeon of Naheulbeuk the amulet of chaos", this game caught my attention again.
Very atmospheric game, comic pictures are soo good, making your imagination fly! It feels like real adventuring, when your party members advance relationship and grow older together.
Cool turn based combat system with innovative "magic".
It had more of adventure feeling than most of AAA DnD games out there!
Its a kind of sometimes less is better thing, proving that there are still passionate people making great games even when they dont have all that money big studios have.
Cant recommend enough for people who loves turn based adventure RPGs!

I mean, I've played 46 hours, so obviously I like it XD The writing of the story sections is beautiful and unique, and the turn-based combat is endlessly variable due to the number of abilities and unpredictable story events. The default difficulty is too easy, and quite boring even on hard difficulty (one notch below the hardest). I found this to be a poor single-player experience but feel it is more designed for co-op due to its roleplaying and simple combat. There are only 3 classes with limited equipment and random transformations or pet events in the storyline that add some class abilities, but they are quite basic given the length of these playthroughs.

In their defense, I didn't play on the hardest difficulty, yet the simple game mechanics leave little meat on the bone for me to want to explore the game further, as I did finish the first 2 chapters with no challenge whatsoever. The writing is whimsical and charming but can get repetitive; think Kelly Thompson Marvel comic-style writing, but not as good. The art and animations are pretty subpar material. A lack of physics really hurts the combat interactivity in the level design, and the UI could be better, to be honest.

Overall, I think this game was and still is innovative with its randomized story generator, but its combat has not aged well. Its combat is an afterthought, and more experienced turn-based tactical fans will get bored, especially on anything but the hardest difficulty, but there is little to explore mechanically, gameplay-wise, as it is mainly a story-driven game that is a little too randomized to have any kind of emotional impact on the player. Overall, I would recommend it for co-op but not for single-player, so I'm gonna have to give this a 5/10.

Wildermyth is a nice random/story driven game. What I mean is one can choose a set campaign of a story and though there are objectives to achieve, one can play it however you like. There are three classes to choose from: archer, warrior, and mage. From there one can play them how you want. Example; the archer can be a true archer or a rouge. One can use speed and distance, stealth and crits, stealth and surprise, speed and crits. Two handed weapons, single handed weapons, off hand weapons. As for game play, one can secure a territory, then secure an item or burn and raze. Build defenses, collect resources. The cool thing about this game is what makes it great, the stories. There are a ton of random generated stories in the game for you characters; each with their own consequences. One can play it safe or roll the dice. Another neat part is after completing a campaign one can keep none or multiple characters to continue developing them in other campaigns. This gives this game replayability, which is amazing. One mechanic I forgot to mention is even though one can play how one wants, still need to get it done in a timely fashion, because the creatures get stronger as time passes; presented in a card like fashion. As each chapter of the game pushes time forward by a decade and a couple years, ones characters get older and eventually retire, if they don't end up expired during the campaign. Wildermyth makes you think of your actions, consequences, and strategies. Give Wildermyth a sold chance; it's a really fun and engaging game. Have fun!

Pour un jeu de RPG solo, ce jeu se démarque par des combats tactiques qui peuvent donner lieu à de vraies séquelles (un personnage peut devenir unijambiste, manchot ou borgne s'il perd un combat) et par un système de temporalité, qui inclut que nos aventuriers peuvent prendre leur retraite s'ils sont trop vieux pour laisser la place à des aventuriers plus jeunes. Les graphismes sont sympa, même si certaines expressions faciales sont plus comiques que réalistes, et la musique reste plaisante. J'apprécie le système des cartes de monstres ennemis qui leur permettent de devenir plus intelligents et puissants à chaque combat, même si je trouve que la difficulté monte un chouïa trop vite pour moi (mais il est possible de la régler dans les paramètres). Enfin, même en choisissant le même type de campagne initiale, les monstres affrontés et l'histoire changent à chaque fois, sans compter tous les événements aléatoires qui débloquent des quêtes secondaires. Bref, un jeu très complet qui promet de nombreuses heures de jeu pour tous les fans de RPG !

A unique twist to a SRPG. Each game feels unique. Sometimes the story elements can feel a bit drawn out or if you play over and over loops, when it does you can skip to the choices. I hope the dev makes more games. We need more creative games like this. Buy this game if you love SRPG games, and would be excited to see how procedurally generated content can mesh into chained story telling where every choice matters.

My only complaint is that there isnt a Wildermyth 2. This is hands down one of the most fun, replayable games i've ever played. Me and my friends constantly search for the high of playing Wildermyth for the first time... I fear we never will.

Wildermyth is an old-school, fable-style game about going from zeroes to heroes. It looks pretty simple in the screenshots, but this game is really worth a try. Why? Because even though you can see some similarities to other video games, it still manages to be something different—a one-of-a-kind adventure.

After a few hours, the content may repeat itself a bit, but it's never 100% the same because your world and team are constantly changing. Your team relations are evolving. Scenarios are changing. Bonds are changing. I understand it may become boring to some people after a while, but for me, it's perfect fuel for my imagination. The music is lovely, and the art style is simple yet pleasing to the eye. I really enjoy this game. It is my "comfort game" (even when I lose one of my best heroes, who was also a father of two young heroes-in-the-making - I still love it).

I suspect that if you love The Banner Saga, XCOM or Wartales (turn-based action with bonds, getting attached to your soldiers, the risk of losing them, and impactful choices), you will probably enjoy Wildermyth.

In all honesty, I can't simply compare it to any other game out there, and that's what makes it unique and worth trying. I know I will be regularly coming back for more.

One side note: as of today, watch out for the Nintendo Switch port, as I’ve heard some very negative things about its performance. The PC version, however, is flawless at the moment.

Now excuse me, I need to risk my best warrior's life and throw myself between six Morthagi just to catch a cute little funny elemental spirit.

Fun until it isn't. Enemies get pretty hard late in the chapters which would probably be ok, but some of the maps switch things up into a "ok, change of plans... now you have to escape the map! and enemies will spawn endlessly until you do!" which is nonsense because depending on where you are on the map when this triggers you're completely screwed, no question about it.

The stories/writing is fine for the most part, but some of the narration just drags on and on and on and on and on and about halfway through every run I've done I just start skipping it.

it's one of the most comforting Games I've ever played and has this kind of TTRPG feel where you keep using characters over again in new stories. it might be lost on people who've never done this, but ever have that character you just keep throwing in games? maybe your friend has the same wizard they'll play reguardless of the story, level, or even game system some time.

That's about every hero in this game. you build a roster of characters like a group of old friends and get to go on adventures with them. Incredibly cozy.

Cute game, very enjoyable for the first dozen hours or so. After that, some cracks start to show. Wildermyth is an overall pleasant experience that suffers from not delivering on the expectations it sets up.

Combat/tactical depth is what you make of it. In terms of tactical diversity, leashing enemies at max range and then nuking before they can damage you is pretty much always the best strategy, so why pick anything else? The battles can still be fun, especially if you're the type of player who deliberately tries to avoid "optimizing the fun out of the game," but if you're looking for strategic depth you'll hit a wall. In terms of build diversity, the three classes suffer from ARPG Item Syndrome, where the weapons that are good make all the other weapons irrelevant junk. It's all fine for what it is, just don't go in expecting a tactics RPG.

Procedurally generated events are fun at first, but by your third campaign the repetitive nature starts to wear a little thin. Part of the problem is the sheer volume: events happen before *every* battle, and some of them take a *lot* of time to read. After multiple campaigns, you hit a point where you recognize the event from the opening and skip ahead to just pick which buff/item you want.

Events are selected from a pool based on "personality traits" among your party and who you've brought to that particular battle. These personalities determine which events are available and slightly alter lines of dialogue within them. In theory, this should make characters feel distinct. In practice, it pushes them toward becoming archetypes rather than individuals. This also bleeds into tone: regardless of their supposed traits, characters (and even most NPCs) tend to share the same agreeable, well-meaning, do-gooder outlook, further smoothing away any meaningful personality contrast.

This is because events assign characters into fixed roles, and those roles override most personality nuance. For example, all “Leader” characters behave the same when slotted into a “Leader” role for an event. A “Goofball Leader” acts no differently than a “Responsible Leader” in a “Leader” event. Over time, this destroys immersion. You start seeing different characters acting out the same roles in events you’ve already seen, and sometimes even the same character behaves inconsistently across events because they were slotted into a different role. Rather than bonding with my characters, I started to feel they were interchangeable.

The procedural generation aspect also means most of the time characters *can't* meaningfully reference things that happened to them in the past. Each episode is self-contained and mostly unaffected by the others. This undercuts the narrative stakes. Characters blankly move on from life-changing events as soon as the next event starts.

Narrative depth requires accretion. In a good story, events build on each other, consequences deepen, and stakes escalate toward a final confrontation. The game would have benefited enormously from events responding to choices you make in other unrelated events. Instead, you get moments like this: my character meets a Crow God who turns them into a part-crow part-human and then just... nothing happens after. No one cares that their decades-long friend suddenly has wings and a beak. I can't follow up. I can't go on a quest to explore the situation further. Their lover doesn't notice or care. We're just moving on to the next event. Ok...

There simply aren't enough events, not enough variety, and not enough dynamism (different characters should act differently! Characters should respond to things that happened to them!) to maintain the suspension of disbelief over multiple campaigns. The game's art depicts the party as flat paper dolls. Once the honeymoon phase ended it became clear that I was in fact playing with flat paper dolls.

This all makes it seem like I don't recommend the game. If I sound harsh I don't intend to. It's still a fun game and I enjoyed my time with it. I was happy playing it. Most of the criticism specifically comes from playing the game past the 20-hour mark. Unfortunately, that's a problem worth mentioning in a game that makes big promises about replayability, party generation, and character-driven stories. It's still a recommend. Just, temper your expectations to match what the actual experience is rather than what the marketing is.

Отличная игра, особенно весело проходить вдвоем. Случайная генерация ивентов рождает локальные мемы типа любвеобильного воина или невероятно невезучей женщины мага. Сценаристы проработали прекрасные сценарии, которые ощущаются как легкие книги с интересными поворотами сюжета. Ну и рпг часть тоже хороша, есть простор для билдостроения. Если вы когда то мечтали создать вороно медведя или пришить хвост скунса своему герою то вам тоже сюда) В общем берите - не пожалеете

Любопытный получился гибрид тактической ролевой с генератором историй! Во время исследования и даже сражений ваших героев ожидает множество историй с приключениями, некоторые из которых могут навсегда оставить след на герое. В виде вороньих крыльев на спине или огненной руки. Я люблю пошаговые бои, поэтому с удовольствием зависал в них в Wildermyth! Также понравились все сюжетные кампании.
И да, где еще постаревшие герои могут сражаться бок о бок со своими детьми и внуками?)

非常值得入手的一款类桌游跑团游戏，不管是画风，剧情，可玩性都相当不错。就是感觉设计的有点奇怪不知道也可能是我不会玩，人数基本上上不去因为会退休，所以兵分两路打怪会非常吃力，基本上只能抱团一起打，但是又设计了一个非常鼓励双头打怪的游戏时间机制，我尝试了很多次但每次都很惨。但总之还是一款优秀的线上跑团作品体量也足够大
