At a time when most games focused only on building empires, this one let you decide the very soul of your civilization: scientists and atheists, devoted saints, or arcane pagans. I played it as a kid, not fully grasping its depth, but feeling that something special. Its challenging AI, medieval atmosphere, and ideological evolution system make it truly unique.

Clunky graphics, AI path glitches and a bland campaign. But it is still fun to play. While I personally like the original Warrior Kings much more this is a good game for anyone who likes medieval-themed strategy games with a dash of fantasy. I feel they could have kept the epicness of the Artosian campaign in but I get their choice. However it feels weird that Telamagna (capital of the world Orbis in which the game is set) is just a bunch of buildings at the start of the last battle. However the AI is balanced and will give you a challenge until you figure out a strategy. In terms of mulitplayer this game is far ahead of the previous one and is really fun to play with your friends as then you will have more time to cherish all the different tech trees and the beautiful castle building
Loved this game since I was a kid. Plenty of playability when you just want to chill and have a casual game. Or you can boost up the enemies difficulty and/or make them teammates to make your experience harder. It always reminded me of Age of Empires, but I prefer this one for it's ease of use. Not to mention easy cheats you can use whenever you want if you so choose to.
This game was so strangely familiar to me but I cannot be certain I ever actually played it, but if it was in a PC ZONE mag at some point then I prob did. Mechanically excellent game and just a bit weird.
Bases are modular and need to be built within touching distance, all ranged units need a loaded supply wagon to fire and resources need to be ferried back to base across map and can be raided and stolen

While this game doesn’t quite match the original, it’s still worth playing. It introduces strong new battle units that are genuinely useful to the player. There’s no real story it's all about conquering a fictional Europe and Asia but for its age, it holds up well. It may no longer stand as a leader in the strategy genre, yet it remains a must play.

A extensive tech tree that takes multiple playthroughs to explore, you will get many hours out of this game,
The only downside is that this game has not aged well: be prepared to encounter bugs and crashes as clearly, as modern hardware has progressed, several things broke with a lack of patches to update the compatibility.
This was a good game overall, I do wish they made more to it and/or expanded it. Playing it as a kid was fun and replaying it was good as well.

I played this game a lot as a kid, I recently bought it on Steam, I haven't really had time to play it yet, but now I'm sure I'll have many hours of fun with it, I can only recommend it. 10/8,5

[*]Механіки - у грі багато цікавих систем, що сильно впливають на геймплей. Тут і прибутковість ферм залежить від типу ґрунту, і дерево технологій залежить від вибору гравця, і ефективність військ залежить від формацій та створення загонів, і багато іншого.
[*]Вплив рельєфу - від рельєфу залежить успіх буквально кожної битви. Лучники та катапульти можуть перестрілювати горби, бо снаряди летять дугою, стрільці та гармати можуть стріляти лише по прямій або згори донизу, бо набої летять тільки по прямій. Гори складні для переміщення, а річки сповільнюють пересування, тому розташування статичної оборони кратно зростає з ефективним використанням рельєфу.
[*]Реалізм (так, саме так) - вибухи можуть нанести шкоду союзним військам і будівлям, лучники і стрільці можуть пошкодити союзні будівлі, якщо ті знаходяться на лінії вогню, а після закінчення битви до трупів солдат злітаються ворони.

[*]ШІ - внутрішньо-ігровий ШІ просто жахливий. Його вистачає лише на скриптований розвиток та патерн атак, ви не побачите неочікуваних рішень і адаптації ворога до вашого стилю.
[*]Керування військам - це окремий головний біль, особливо коли розмір армії стає дійсно великим. Рятує тільки можливість створення "гарячих клавіш" на групи (тобто Ctrl + 1...9). Керування військами без формацій ще куди не йшло, виділена група слухає накази і кожен окремий юніт працює сам, що в результаті має непоганий результат. Але війська без формацій дуже вразливі, мають меншу шкоду і захист, тому формації просто доведеться використовувати. А війська у формаціях поводять себе уже абсолютно по-іншому - уся група діє як один юніт, а формація не почне рух, поки усі юніти в ній не займуть своє місце. Однак під час битви формація сама просто розпадається, з неї "виходять" окремі юніти і не виконують попередній наказ, втрачають бонуси формації (шкоду і захист) і просто стоять на місці. З особистого досвіду найкращим рішенням керування військами є лучники або стрільці без формації (оскільки якщо вони у формації, то часто вони не ведуть вогонь самостійно, а лише тоді, коли гравець вручну віддає наказ на кожного ворога), попереду яких стоїть формація списоносців. Те саме стосується і мікроконтролю - у формації він практично відсутній, тому, наприклад, маленький загін драгунів без формації зазвичай ефективніший великого загону вершників у формації.

У підсумку хочу сказати, що попри жахливе керування військами, гра чудова. Вона чудова, навіть якщо вас не пов'язують теплі дитячі спогади, у цієї гри є стиль і атмосфера. На жаль, навряд чи ви зможете зіграти в неї з реальними людьми, але навіть проходження кампанії проти ШІ залишить дуже приємне враження, тому[b] однозначно рекомендую [/b].

Visually repellent, but it plays just fine. You can scroll around the map using WASD by default, & edge scroll can be disabled. It even has a sexy sorceress, albeit an extremely low poly one.

Relaxing and frustrating. I'm another one that bought this on disc. Okay, there are some really annoying little bugs. but there are a few mods floating about that mostly sort them out.
I love the camera on this game, I sent a priest from a little village church, walking across the map to pray at the cathedral, and it was a pleasure to just zoom in and watch him walking through the wheat fields and by the windmill, before getting mercilessly cut down by a bunch of mounted pagan women.

Amazing game! I also played the original warrior kings game following the life of Artos, which is also a great play through. I was unaware this game existed and so only played the first game at the time. Sad to see there is no continuation, this game had a lot of potential... my first 3D RTS game. I had as much enjoyment playing warrior kings as i did rome total war.

Takes a long time to understand this game BUT....
It is indeed a nice RTS. First of all i do not understand why the newest version only support lower resolution then the other one on steam?!? There is no real campaign, You can Battle like "risk" getting more and more options for technology. that makes fun. it is also very interesting that you can choose your path from good to evil or science with other options, technologies and units. Music is ok and the sound is working. Not that good but ok.
It is said that it is really buggy game but after some patches i think this problem dissapear fortunately. All worked great but fighting is not the best system in RTS. Orders do not really work and formations system would be nice system but without it its much more easier to micro your units. If you like RTS you can buy it for lower price.

It has a pretty unique and detailed build. The sounds are relaxing and the tech-tree should be chosen wisely. I never managed to get war-elephants tbh.
But You can have an archangel or some kind of beosaurus to send to the battlefield.

An ancient game, lost to the past. Battle it out with three main faction paths that off shoot to two more. Will you raise an army of fanatics fighting in the name of the Imperial Church and empire? A horde of Pagan warriors who summon demons from the abyss. Perhaps, you would stick to science and unlock the secrets of black powder.
Warrior Kings is a long skirmish global conquest game where you manage a manor and progress through the tech tree. Certain buildings lock others and unlock new ones and each path has its advantages and disadvantages. Its difficult to explain how this game is, what I would say is its a mix of Stronghold defender and perhaps age of empires.
Its an old game and thus lacks many quality of life features and has many bugs since it was a released as is with no patching back in the day. You will need to mod the game files to make it run on a modern platform. Expect a rather difficult buggy and unbalanced game but if you can master it, pretty enjoyable.

First played this in 06 and fell in love ever since, recently picked it up on steam and there is no nostalgia blinders here. It's a solid game worth playing. Fun all around, just use a VPN for multiplayer and it's even more fun making and breaking alliances with friends knowing you talk while you play.
My favorite of this type of strategy game even still !

Fantastic game even 20 years on, very nostalgic and a tonne of fun.
Just make sure to install patch 1.23 (Steam latest is 1.1) and Universal Unofficial Patch by AdrienTD.
I like it. It's similar to Age of Empires but with it's own flavor on things. I'm actually particularly impressed with the controls. They feel good and do some cool things I'm surprised didn't catch on.

classic rts from the aoe/wc3 era with great sound design and art, fun gameplay, and a surprisingly fun campaign. I'm a little biased as this was one of my childhood RTS games, but i love this game to death. haven't tried the multiplayer but I assume it doesn't work like every other old RTS out there. will update this after I give it try.
edit: beat the campaign, it was very difficult in a very good way. felt challenging but not unwinnable the entire time. The multiplayer, however, is basically impossible without something like hamachi. Oh well, I still had 40 hours of fun.
I used to play this 10 years ago, is really an old,but gold game. I would like to see a new version for this now, if ever possible.. It could have been updated.

Pros:
A great selection of maps varying in size and number of players with a great settings customization which greatly improves the replayability of an already huge selection.
An amazing campaign and lore. Every character and map gets unlocked for free play once that stage is cleared further increasing the amount of maps and characters mentioned in the point above.
A custom character creator where you can fine tune how the AI will play (lots and lots of settings to explore here) and it can potentially lead to the most crazy battles the game can offer.
Cons:
Old graphics (which isn't necessarily a con for me and many others but may be enough for some players to get used to).
Amazing childhood memories and multiplayer is supported too, which makes it a really awesome game to play with friends!

The ai is challangingbut doesn't cheat aldough the campaign is a huge slog and kinda basic.
Still for what it is this is a really great strategy game, also unlike in AOE or Stronghold, here you can have 800 INDIVIDUALLY controlled units!!!!!
And combat is slow paced and methodical, ranged units shoot a hundred yard away, the maps are huge, resource gathering takes a while and this all coallesces into an excelent rts where you don't need to spamclick and have 300 APM to be succesfull.

While the game works, and the Warrior Kings series of RTS games have some compelling depth, the game is just too old. This is really the kind of game that needs a remaster or a reboot.

BEST CLASSIC STRATEGIC GAME
Honestly a lot of things to complain about, but definitely a core memory in my childhood.
Been playing this game since around 2007, still enjoying it to this day.
One of the first games I ever played.
This is a genious game that dies upon a mountain of rly bad Qol: trash unit ai makes battles to tedious , pathfinding, slow scrolling speed, no hotkey rebind, weird game speed that is eitehr to slow or to fast, food is gathered to slow, even when you build 50 farms with all of the gathering iimprovments you still consistently run out of food when you tryto spam units and that on fast game speed... wtf?
All of this makes the experience not very enjoyable, even though this game is more creative than many other so called rts.
But you can be as creative and innovative and deep as you want, if the base gameplay features do not work as they should, its sadly not a fun game.

This is the first RTS game I've ever played, and I enjoyed this game a LOT. If you're interesting of trying out a RTS Game for the first time, I recommended this game a lot. Or if you have past experience with RTS game, there is a customizable AI that you can make and fight against with. There's even a large community surrounding WKB. A good friend of mine showed me this game and I enjoyed it a lot :)

要说什么游戏让我入了RTS游戏的坑，那么除了AoE、魔兽争霸，那么就是Warrior Kings了。
小时候玩得不亦乐乎，农民种地造木墙修箭塔、再造哨兵观察空地时刻警惕入侵，筑兵营出矛兵搭假人练习，从开头第一局魔族入侵逃亡，到山顶修道院埋炸药炸城墙逃跑，到最后关卡的城市大墙外与无数魔族妖怪的终极大战，剧情走向会根据玩家的良善举动而解锁不一样的科技线，比如能造出拥有一刀斩技能的天使单位的善良阵营，或者需要烧村民就能加快进度召唤出来拥有红眼烧小人技能的恶魔的邪恶阵营，还有一个好像是枪械和炸药的真科技线阵营，不一样玩法的三条科技线和剧情体验真的是棒。
可惜的是当年太小不会英语所以完全看不懂剧情，而现在的battle版本好像又把剧情模式给删除了，换成了没有剧情而是纯征服地区的大地图关卡模式，体验可以说是大打折扣。而现在没有高清的分辨率，加上这潦草的画质，绝对是不能够再吸引任何新的玩家了。
而后我发现这个工作室老早就解散了，看来哪怕再过五年十年应该也是玩不到类似的RTS了。
