Vengeful Heart is a game that will unveil your activism side. If I were in charge of something, I would make it mandatory for people to play this game. Half joke aside, I still believe people should learn how they should be striving to fight for their basic human rights. Strong shelter, healthy foods, healthcare, safe transport, all of these and more should be affordable and easily attainable to everyone to live a productive and happy life. I'm sure we can agree on this. Yes, well, now imagine if water costs more than you rent. Do you feel angry, confused, shocked or all of the above? Well, this is where you need to play Vengeful Heart to find out how people fight and stick it up to the corporation that tries to take it away from them.
There are a lot of powerful moments in this game that resonate with me. The music doesn't help stop me from going to tears, I was already on my knees from the brutality of the first chapter. I'm surprised how graphically gruesome the texts were when displaying action, despite not showing all of them visually, I can still imagine how it happened, even when I don't want to.
I love the colour palette choice. It gives you a tinted, comforting feel, highlighting that there is still hope for the city even with all the political dramas. It complements well with the 80s style music giving it a dated vibe.
All the characters are flawed, some making odd decisions, some more than others, there's even a triangle tree I wasn't a fan of. I can stand here and list all the mistakes each character makes, but that will make me hypocritical. At the end of the day, in real life or not, these are just regular people trying to fight against injustice.
I deliberately tried to keep this review vague; I didn't want to spoil much. This experience is a learning moment you should try to learn about politics, your rights, corporate greed and social class differentiation so you know what to do if anything tries to threaten yours or your neighbours ' livelihood.

my first (mostly) kinetic novel and honestly I'm not sure I'm really into it as a medium, but like, still: vengeful heart rocks
the best element is the writing. it tackles topics that are huge, and it executes on them so well because it keeps them grounded—either in the characters or the surprisingly detailed world building
the characters in particular are great. all of them matter so much to both the immediate plot, and to the broader themes of the stories. the writing consistently takes great care in treating them as complex people, even unnamed characters who don't get their own sprite. amidst the mobs, the crowds, the boardrooms is a persistent reminder that these groups are still made up of individuals, and that matters despite the story's scale
the visual and musical art direction is sublime. even as experiencing this story got super (appropriately) dark and dismal, the aesthetic experience kept me focused and going. and like, none of us get to really choose our hellscapes, but if the one I'm assigned could develop this color palette, I would be into it
I initially had mixed feelings about the main crossroads moment in the experience, and though not all of them are resolved, ultimately I respect it. a story like this can never truly be tidy—any that is, is lying—and vengeful heart knows it
a strong recommend to anyone who looking for 1) really rich and nuanced character-driven narrative experiences and 2) sick vibes
It's so tremendously stupid. Bloody and boring. Painfull to read.
Protagonist erratic. Tenders are wusses. The story trivial. The world unhinged. And everyone braindead.
There are some good marks, but they lose on point.
This game is a visual novel about a woman and her friends who stand up against an evil company who decides to take a monopoly on the water. So everybody deemed not "worthy" will be cut off from the water supply.
The story was suprisingly good, the only downside I have is that there is ONLY ONE DECISION in this game.
So not much replay value. You basically pay for a novel. Other than that check it out. If you have doubts check out the demo first.
fantastic read. love that the most stressful and nailbiting game i've played in a long while is an almost entirely kinetic novel.
A very cautious recommendation.
Vengeful Heart is a "good" visual novel with some "bad" bits here and there. The art is really nice, it's very reminiscent of PC-98 games. The soundtrack, well it didn't distract or bother me so that's okay. The story is arguably the most important part, this being a visual novel with only one choice to make, you'll be just reading for the majority of the game, but unfortunately this is also where the game kind of drops the ball.
This is not a short visual novel, not an incredibly long one but not a short one either. Finished it around 6hrs of playtime, sans idling. Even so, the pacing is all over the place. Some parts drag on so much that it feels like it's never going to end, others will skip by so fast that you'll not even notice. There's a timeskip at a certain point with no notice or indication.
This also affects character development, especially the ones that the story mainly focuses on. Weirdly enough, since the side characters aren't focused on too much they grow and develop at a steady pace, and at the end it's very satisfying to see how they've changed. The main characters, however, grow and change as the story goes way too quickly, especially the main character. The pace at which she swings from one extreme to another is exhausting. Additionally, several aspects of her character are always talked about but are never shown, which is weird.
And finally, the romance, I honestly do believe the romance is the main reason why the previous points are the way they are. The choice you have to make is almost at the very end, so throughout the entire story both options kinda stick around even though you blow them all the time because, reasons? But that also means you need more development time with both of those characters, so more screen time is needed for both of them thus taking screentime away from other characters or story beats. The choice being so late also stops the romance options from ever growing until you make your choice. I think the story would benefit immensely from this choice being moved to way, way earlier as there are scenes where it would make so much more sense story wise. Even the way you make your choice is kind of stupid, you don't choose your romantic partner by, y'know, dating them. You choose them by agreeing to their plan of how you should take down a megacorp? Like, maybe I like one character over the other but think the other's plan is more sound? Idk, the romance was my least favorite part of this game if you couldn't tell.
Anyway, even through all that I still finished this game, even went back to get the second ending, which's saying something. I do recommend this game to VN enjoyers, but just know what you're getting into.
I wish there was a way to recommend games more than once. This is literally everything that I want in a visual novel. A mature, well-written story, great characters, and an amazing soundtrack.
It's a good one and needs more reviews
This is one of the best reads I've had in a while, maybe even ever. The nice pixel art, the pleasantly imperfect character designs, the heavy story, the music, it's amazing. Even if my impatient self tends to rush through stuff. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
There is only one choice in the game, and it comes in Chapter 6 (I think). The two options do pretty dramatically change the ending and both are pretty good.
P.S. thanks for leaving the music files as regular .ogg files :)
Its a shame more people didn't talk about this game. The story is great, and it's very cyberpunk, though without too much grit. The characters are fun and likable, and there's not really any silly archetypes you've seen a million times before. The art style is really something special and the soundtrack is fantastic. It really fits the art/world very well! Some real bangers on here. I just can't seem to understand why people didn't really talk about this title much. It's really good, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes visual novels or cyberpunk themes.

Absolutely adored tit, the story is incredibly well written.
I am so glad that I stumbled across this hidden gem! Not only does the distinct PC98 pixel art and awesome early 90' Synthwave soundtracks greatly appeal to me. But the story is one of the best I've seen from visual novels on Steam for a long time. Though rather than of the Cyberpunk genre, I'd personally categorize this game as Hydropunk instead. That being said, the devs still got the "punk" part with a dystopian future and corporal overlords down to a T. Fused with a heavily engaging plot about water shortages and you get Vengeful Heart in a nutshell. Though I'd wished that there would have been more than one branching dialogue choice stretched out between the 8 chapters. And the fact that half of the texts seem to lack their "beeping sounds" is a bit of a shame.
I give Vengeful Heart a score of 9/10. If you liked games like VA-11_HALL_A's or 2064: Read Only Memories, you'll probably enjoy this game as well.
Nice, short (~5 hours) cyberpunk story with a heavy emphasis on the punk theme with charming art design and soundtrack! Would recommend picking it up on sale!

It´s a wonderful, around 15 hours long visual novel, about capitalism, future and love.
Tbh. I didn´t really know what to expect from this game, since I just bought it before really reading what it is about, but the buy was totally worth it. The art style of the game is really pretty and reminds me of old PC-98 games. Nice backgrounds, perfect synth music and lovely characters.
If you are into visual novels, you should buy the game. But: Don´t expect decisions. There´s only really one, pretty late in the game, which I won´t be telling more about now, but for the rest it´s just plain reading.
I'm a big fan of the PC-98 art style. Beautiful. The story's good too.
Una novela visual que transcurre en una ciudad distópico-futurista donde una corporación controla el suministro de agua. Si os gustan este tipo de ambientaciones y la interfaz gráfica inspirada en los juegos de PC98 lo apreciaréis.
Cabe decir que se nota que la prosa es bastante "amateur", pero tiene su encanto.
Хорошая игра. Крепкая история, не без изъянов конечно. Немножко предсказуемо в развязке и финале, но за то не так уж наивно как ожидалось. Читать интересно. Персонажи довольно шаблонны, но достаточно раскрыты, чтобы сочувствовать героям. Музыка тоже хороша, не раздражает и создает атмосферу. А вот визуал подкачал, художник по персонажам явно проигрывает художнику по фонам. Скажем так, лично на мой вкус, рисовка персонажей просто плохая. Из графики только спрайты персонажей и маленькое окошко с фоном. Вообще, графика явно не лучшая часть игры. А так вполне сносно, читать интересно, так что рекомендую попробовать.
If Lethal Weapon, Diehard and Robocop had a baby it would be this game. Story rich and incredibly long.. Lot's of shooting, explosions, and hopeless scenarios, that you somehow keep coming back from.
There is only ever one choice and happens waaaay towards the end. Which kinda sucks, but the writing was satisfying enough to keep me from rage quitting when i'm 6 chapters in and so far this thing is still looking kinetic. Flip side... I may not play this again for a long time. I'm basically one save point away from the other ending. Which, considering game length... Cannot possibly be that different.
