Em Type:Rider, você não controla um herói, um soldado ou um sobrevivente. Você controla dois pontos — o símbolo “:”. Pode parecer estranho no começo, mas é justamente essa simplicidade que faz o jogo ser tão diferente. Fun game and a surprisingly in-depth typography museum!
Pretty interesting little 2D platformer where you can learn a thing or two about the history of typography. I wouldn't say it's flawless, it has some annoying bits but overall it's alright.

The art design and ambient soundtrack are the real stars here, with each level beautifully evoking the era of its featured font, and the optional historical passages are a nice touch for anyone curious enough to pause and read them. That said, the controls are genuinely clunky — guiding the two-dot colon through the levels often feels like wrestling with physics rather than playing a game, and a few of the later sections had me gritting my teeth. If you go in expecting a polished platformer, you'll come away frustrated, but if you treat it as an interactive art piece with some light platforming attached, it's a short and worthwhile experience, especially on sale.

Pretentious people talk about "games as art." Or "games as education." This game right here is "games as slow jazz." A 2D platformer right down to its core, the amount of enjoyment one gets from this game will 100% come down to how much you vibe with its central theming - the history of print and typography. As a platformer the game is adequate. It doesn't do anything special as a platformer, and the challenge is reasonable, but not going to keep you busy for days on end. It is in the visuals where the game shines, with an original presentation and gorgeous graphic design.
Me? I dig it. But you're also probably not wrong if you look at think, "that isn't for me."
This one is a mixed bag. The game concept is really unique and educational if you're interested in learning about the history of writing. I really enjoyed the visuals-the game looks really nice- and thought it was really cool how each font has its own themed level (ie. Clarendon font takes you to a western themed world) which was really fun. The music was surprisingly good too.
On the other hand it was extremely frustrating trying to control ":" as it seems the two dots appear to work against each other; I would try to pull ":" up from a ledge only to be launched in the opposite direction and fall to my death because of the opposing dot (one dot leads while the other follows, but it seems to switch which leads and which follows after each jump..?). Every jump was aggravating and a level that should have been really easy was made extremely complicated and frustrating and made me want to rip out my hair at times. This definitely detracted from my enjoyment of the game. Also, upon completion of each level you're brought to a book where you have options to continue, redo level, exit or go to various social media outlets (i guess to follow the dev team or check their stuff out?) But for some reason many of the options, including to continue, were cut off from the screen in my case so I could never see what option I was choosing, so most of the time I would end up being put right back at the beginning of the level. No other part of the game had the screen cut off like this so idk why it was happening,but you dont have the option to exit the level back to the overworld, so I had to exit the game entirely every time that happened. Another frustration! Just seems like a strange and obvious oversight on their part.
It's a very short game and overall it has a lot to offer but just bear in mind that it also has a lot of short comings too. I give it a thumbs up only because i dont necessarily think it deserves a thumbs down. I wish steam had a sideways thumb.

This ARTE game is very good. You learn while playing. And on big sales, you can have it for less than $1.
For a museum piece about typography, this game is incredibly in-depth.
Gameplay-wise, the premise is simple: you take control of an umlaut and navigate terrain across the evolving time periods of fonts.
Simple? NO.
Having already cleared the game on mobile before I thought this would retain the same experience.
WRONG.
The movement system is shoddy, and for a platformer I'd expect the movement to be less janky.
Granted, it is a mobile port, so I can forgive some of the aspects.
Purchase if you have an interest in typography, history, or simply want to support the museum.
Or just buy if it's on sale. I got this for less than a dollar.
Loved the history on typefaces and fonts. This was an interesting 2D platformer. I will say, controlling the :colon: is very touchy and got a bit annoying at times but for an educational game that is raising awareness on typography and its importance, it was still fun.

Let's first talk about the good and then what is bad.
Don't get me wrong, this game is so creative that it made me buy it twice (both bugged versions btw, first played on ios). The game is very nice aesthetically - I mean, before "Pixel" level. All so beautifully made, I really never imagined how rich the soul of a font could be! Type:rider made letters to be so charismatic without being even a word... They make our path, they interact with us, they play with us!
Clarendon level is one of the funniest I've played - rail track reminded me Donkey Kong.
All soundtracks, sound fx's, backgrounds and level designs... the game is nice!
About the mechanics? Well, playing this game is like driving a car with the weight of a train. You'll hard press the button and these circles won't like to get out of their place... until they do, and you fell like Sonic; then you die and you fell like Limbo, betrayed by level design :)
Now, the bad...
This beautiful game struggles to keep balance.
It's like there's a person making it fun from the beginning till Helvetica level; then the studio fired that person to hand the project over to a sadistic person to finish the last two levels: Pixel and the 'secret' one, Comic Sans. Sorry devs, you couldn't make me smile in the end... I was just sorry.
Pixel level is so boring that it makes you wonder if it was a good idea to enter the game. In this level, letters become just something present, nothing else. As I mentioned, unnecessarily a little more salt to the game and it became something it should not be meant to. Thankfully they didn't create an achievement directly related to this level.
So I had a choice to make: do good for devs or do good for steam mates? Well, here's my advice: if you're really interested in the game, go look for a good gameplay video and be safe.

It's a delightful little platformer. Its concept, level design, and art direction are all unique, and each world feels distinct from the last. Nothing in the game is too long or overly challenging. You'll probably flub a jump here and there, but checkpoints are plentiful so it never feels punishing. It also isn't long enough to overstay its welcome. Short, stylish, and consistently creative - it's absolutely worth a playthrough for an afternoon.
Less a real game, as the game is quite short and easy to master and more a education way of offering knowledge. I had fun learning something new, i did know alot but not all of it.

But in generall if you want a game and not learn about typing and its history and fonts you can easily pass this game.

"Type:Rider" es un juego con una premisa fascinante. Es un título de plataformas sobre la historia de las tipografías. ¿Cómo logra eso? A través de visuales espectaculares que van representando la historia de la comunicación humana, y luego utilizando esos elementos decorativos para generar obstáculos a superar. En ese sentido, es lo que muchas esferas denominarían un "serious game" o "edugame". Fuera etiquetas que me parecen problemáticas, el objetivo de este proyecto era traer un tema de este estilo a un público que lo consumiera desde una perspectiva única.
El resultado me encanta, sinceramente. Admito que soy un aficionado de las tipografías, la historia del diseño, la comunicación, editoriales y las computadoras, entonces mientras seguro para muchos pueda terminar siendo aburrido, yo genuinamente estaba con la boca abierta cada vez que desbloqueaba una nueva entrada de la enciclopedia, dejándome aprender más sobre este tema. Estuve sonriendo gran parte de su duración, y aunque hubo niveles que me costaron más de lo que me gustaría por culpa de las físicas del juego y sus bugs, la verdad es que creo que merece más amor este título, porque me encantaría ver más proyectos así.
Sí me gustaría que el juego tal vez explicara más ciertas cosas, como los procesos de imprenta, ya que creo que además se pudo haber prestado a niveles más interesantes, pero es que se nota tanto que los desarrolladores se divirtieron mucho haciendo este juego, por lo que no podía evitar estar sonriendo todo el rato.

As soon as I launched the game the ARTE logo caught my eye, instantly reminding me of the TV channel and the early music videos I loved watching on YouTube. However, this game didn’t meet my expectations.

The gameplay feels dry, with little excitement beyond occasional jumps. While the backgrounds offer historical facts and figures, they lack sufficient context. I’m having trouble understanding the purpose or the intention behind this game.
I believe it’s important for a company to focus on its strengths. ARTE excels in delivering art, culture, and music content through its channel, but game publishing seems like an unfamiliar business realm for them. I’d suggest sticking to their established expertise.

A game made for people who are more into the history of typing letters than into videogames, but would still rather play some weird game where you control a colon and make it jump over letters instead of just reading about history somewhere. Really fun, educational, and unique platformer game where we play as punctuation - specifically, a colon. I find it really cool how the game follows the history of different fonts. It's such a unique concept to make a game out of. The backgrounds are beautiful and I love the music. There's something quite elegant about many of the scenes, especially for the earlier levels.
I thought it was so cute how the Pixels level had nods to Tetris and Snake. You can tell a lot of love and care was poured into the game. It's really pretty and showcases the fonts and their history beautifully.
The gameplay mechanics are easy to learn, although in some levels, they don't always work as expected. But in general, I think this game is quite beginner-friendly (besides the secret level) and really enjoyable. Dying doesn't really mean anything, you restart pretty much right where you were before (again, besides the secret level), so it's not frustrating or anything. The game is relatively short - you can knock it out in an evening.
I really recommend this if you want a playformer that's pretty, quick, and not too difficult.

小学时候在多玩盒子上玩过，当时虽然看不太懂里面的文字，但对这两个小球印象特别深刻，从最早的壁画到哥特式字体，再到后来的电脑字体，可以说是给当时的我带来了一种新的游戏概念：原来游戏不止有CF和逆战，也可以做的这么美。
前段时间突然想起来小时候玩的有两个小球的游戏，隐约记得名字里有个什么“印刷术”，兜兜转转终于找到它，也算是给当时的童年补个票了。现在回过来玩，品读每章后面的介绍，再次体会到：游戏就是第九艺术。
As beautiful and as informative the game was, it was also quite challenging and hard to navigate at times. While that can be a good quality, it can also cause a lot of frustration if you're just pulling your hair while trying to complete a level again, and again.

I played this game a decade ago, one of the first non free to play games I managed to get on steam from a friend*.
It's a lovely story about typography from what I can remember, and it's quite small, finishing it's entire course withing 2 hours. I recommend it as an atmospheric puzzle

半端に物理演算が入っていたり、よっこいしょ…と重みのある操作感だったり、フォントに絡めたセンスを無視した際のアクションゲームとしての質はありふれたレベルであり、楽しいかどうか聞かれるとちょっと微妙です。
あくまで「フォントの歴史体験ツアー お洒落なアクションゲーム仕立て」みたいな感覚で触るのが良さそうです。
個人的には大変好きな作品ですので、ゲーム画像や動画を見てピンときたら触れてみてほしいです。できれば英語がある程度読めるととても楽しい。
Easy and beautiful platforming experience that is educational. I love the levels and the designs. This game opened my eyes to something I had never thought about before. I now love typography and am greatly interested in the history of it. Sometimes I go back in the game and reread the books in-game. It gives me a sense of nostalgia and pride seeing how far we have come as humans sharing information.
good game if you want to learn more about font styles
Pra um jogo que, geralmente, está em promoção por valores bem baixos, definitivamente vale a pena. Com gameplay bastante simples e intuitivo, fases divertidas e puzzles simples mas satisfatórios (exceto no último mundo), além de ser repleto de informações a respeito da história da tipografia (e por causa deste tema, acaba sendo um jogo bastante estiloso) definitivamente é uma recomendação para um jogo curto e direto ao(s) (dois) ponto(s).
Diria que o único problema tá na física do jogo que na maioria das vezes é bastante divertida de jogar e brincar, não sinto que combinou bem com os obstáculos e puzzles do último mundo, tornando a experiência um tanto quanto frustrante.
Por fim, um jogo fácil de recomendar e duas horas que definitivamente valem os dez reais ou menos que se paga pela experiência e conhecimento.

A mi-chemin entre le documentaire et le jeu de plate-forme, Type: Rider fait une proposition fortement originale : explorer l'histoire de la typographie en incarnant le caractère ":". C'est pas banal ! La forme même de notre avatar apporte son lot de surprises, et en termes de ressenti, on peut l'assimiler à un petit buggy sautillant. Malheureusement les contrôles et les réactions qui s'en suivent ne sont pas vraiment prévisibles et conduisent bien souvent au fail injustifié. Si le jeu ne donne pas dans le challenge, il y a quand même un achievement et un niveau bonus ultra-rageants ! Pour le contenu "sérieux", il n'y a pas grand-chose à dire, l'histoire de l'imprimerie, des caractères et des polices est documentée et présentée de manière agréable sous forme de livrets à compléter en progressant dans les niveaux. Au final Type: Rider a plus de vertus pédagogiques que ludiques et c'est bien dommage car le sujet est réellement intéressant !

Can't change resolution in settings, also only low resolutions available. Controls feels like crap, very hard to control. Some levels are nice with the music, but overall very simplistic boring game. Puzzles are easily solvable, no need to use your brain. Also if I wanted to read walls of text about typography I would go to Wikipedia. Even in museums you have interactive shows, this is just lazy.
Les décors de jeu sont splendides et bien travaillés. Le jeu consiste à un voyage temporel dans l'univers de l'écriture de -3000 av JC jusqu'à aujourd'hui. Le jeu est court et n'est pas trop difficile en général. Cependant rien que la direction artistique du jeu vaut le détour.

近期玩过最棒的一个游戏。
它以西方印刷史为基础，结合时代特点，在关卡中穿插各种英文字体出现、发展和应用相关的要素。[b] 操纵的角色是冒号 [/b]这一点十分新颖，音乐及美术风格精致，各个关卡设计也非常巧妙。
寓教于乐，虽然没中文导致啥也看不懂，但享受游戏的部分就已经很棒了。熟悉这方面知识的人玩起来应该会很有亲切感吧。
我推测自己打和看实况可以感受到非常不同的东西。
我操作好烂，觉得后几关有点难，哈哈……还好最后一关一次全收集了，不然我真的不会有耐心打第二遍

Novel concept for a platformer that plays well enough. Nothing too special, but if it looks interesting enough for you to consider playing, it's unlikely to disapoint.
J'aurai du me méfier, si c'est éducatif cela donne rarement un bon jeu. Cela se vérifie encore une fois avec Type:Rider.
Its handling is primitive and poor. Huge momentum and weight, with low force addition; slow to start slow to stop. Couple this with unlike other games of this style, you have no rotation control. Its clunky, and feels really really bad.
The worst thing though is in the first minute of the game it shows you a sample of whats to come. Which is them showing you reality, then breaking their own worlds physical base rules. They have a white ball land on two identical level platforms, on the first it slides right for no reason, on the second it is stationary.
The end effect is you move forward with no ability to predict what to expect from every chunk in the environment, and when some nonsense behaviour will trigger, and limited ability to respond with slowing accelerating, and not even being able to rotate to suit the problems that appear out of that. Feels terrible.
And the games art is bland and their inserts of language history irritatingly invasive.
Me ha gustado muchísimo tanto la banda sonora como la jugabilidad.
Solo por el escenario de la Futura ya se merece el positivo. Por lo demás, jugabilidad limitadilla, música ok e información muy interesante.

Os controles para movimentação e pulo do personagem que nós controlamos (que são dois pontos) é muito quebrado. Muitas vezes é completamente imprevisível que você consiga fazer o pulo que esteja planejando, outras vezes parece que ele perde o fôlego porque você tenta ir em frente mas ele para e não consegue avançar (mesmo não tendo obstáculos pela frente) atrapalhando toda a experiência do jogo. A proposta é bem interessante, apesar de ser um bloco de texto massante sendo jogada na tela de tempos em tempos (cada vez que recolhemos um asterisco). Enquanto não organizarem os controles não recomendo esse jogo pois você só vai passar raiva em alguns momentos.

Great Game!
As a UX Designer and someone with a Graphic Design degree I enjoyed this. However, as someone who loves games, it has no reliability as a platformer. The deathless Clarendon level achievement makes me want to cry. There are some bits that just happen to be out of your control. The mechanics and responsiveness need to be a better. Additionally, every now and then the Pause menu just doesn't work any more (on controller or keyboard) meaning you need to force quit the game to be able to restart a level. That being said it's less than $1 so you get what you pay for.

It would be more accurate to have named this, "Typeface:Rider". I thought it was a typing game and was disappointed. It's a special kind of nerd who would enjoy an action platformer art project to showcase the visual history of typefaces. This game is made well and does what it does beautifully, but many gamers will find this boring. If the names Garamond and Times make your body flush with desire, you will immediately love this game, otherwise it's probably a pass.

Esse jogo é muito bom, tem puzzles simples e divertidos, só a jogabilidade que a pessoa vai pegando jeito com o tempo. Além de ser bem informativo sobre a história das fontes e letras no decorrer dos séculos,
é como uma aula de história de pano de fundo enquanto você joga, mas o game design é excelente.
O estágio que mais gostei e mais achei criativo foi o Pixel.
Além de que, se você quiser completar 100% do game para platina, a conquista mais dificil é Desperado,
passar o estágio todo sem morrer é bem dificil, então é bom você saber de antemão.
Mas é alcançável, então a platin é possível com um pouco de dedicação.

I first played it on ps4 and this doesnt have platinum trophy on ps4.But on steam i achieved complitionist achievement.nice experience for achievement hunting.And it is ultra cheap.Recommened for anyone.

The game is worth the price of admission. Even though it looks simple and may be uninteresting in pictures, but it is really addictive. And this kind of game concept I haven't seen anywhere else. We play as a colon and travel through different books and their genres, and at the end of each book we need to get the third point, as if continuing it. With its design, the game is reminiscent of Limbo. The levels are full of interesting puzzles and the end is the most interesting! If you have never played 2D games, I suggest you try it, at a good screen resolution it is a very beautiful games.

L'intérêt du jeu est de s’amuser simplement sur un petit platformer tout en découvrant l’histoire de la typographie. Le premier point et réussi, un gameplay sans prise de tête avec des mécaniques simples. Les décors des niveaux sont faits de lettres et d’objets en lien avec la période de l’histoire, les musiques aussi sont dans les thèmes. La maniabilité est assez mauvaise mais c’est pas trop gênant. Chaque niveaux relate une période importante de la typographie, on collecte des astérisques dans les niveaux qui débloquent une entrée dans le journal et c’est dans ce journal qu’on en apprend sur l’évolution de la typographie. Ce journal je ne l’aime pas trop parce qu’il survole une partie intéressante de l'histoire: l’invention de l’écriture et s’attarde sur des périodes que je ne trouve pas intéressantes. Sur la page de gauche une image et à droite le texte, les images ne montrent pas grand chose, souvent une personne. Je trouve dommage qu’il n’y ai pas d’images d’illustration du fonctionnement de la presse ou de la machine à écrire, il n’y a pas non plus de galerie ou de tableau des différentes typographies, les détails techniques sur les raisons de pourquoi cette typographie à cette forme là sont réduits au profit des raisons idéologiques.
TL;DR je jeu est amusant mais pas intéressant pour une personne qui n’est pas du domaine. Achetez le en promo si vous êtes intéressé parce qu’il dure que 2 heures
I am 32 years old.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

As a platformer this "game" is awful.

in the beginning I was just a fan of puzzles when i purchased the game i found it great and a similar style to games like limbo with a fair level of difficulty.
today, i'm a visual designer, the use of the world of type and appreciation of using type as the game subject is very well done and very informative, whether you are a fan of type or just like puzzles it is a great game
When I was a kid, Starbucks used to give out cards that could be used to get freebies from the App Store. This game was one of those freebies, and I remember playing it on the family iPad sometime around 2013 I think. Replaying it again all these years later just reminded me how great of a game this is. Sure the platforming can be annoying at times, but the overall design and feel of the game is unique and hard to find anywhere else.
The game actually reminded me of It Takes Two, in how every chapter feels totally different and set apart from the last. Shame it's not better known, because it is a very great experience, and very educational.

In terms of the typographic history and artistic level design this game is incredible.
But as a platformer it is incredibly clunky, frustrating, and inconsistent. The idea of moving around as a colon is a great one, with some really neat mechanical uses throughout, but the movement really just hinders the game as a whole.
If you are interested please go watch a playthrough, it will 100% be worth your while.
