Fantastic! Even though it crashed several times in later stages, it's completely playable as is (only 4:3 aspect ratio). I played this on X360 back in the days though I didn't finish it, I quit at the first sandworm "Chaser" stage. Then about 20 years later, I finally finished it. Even though it's quite hard even at Normal difficulty, the story, the gameplay and the graphics, everything feels better than what we have today. It's hard but quick save come in handy. Keep trying then you can finish it about 20 hours. (The last boss battle was so hard that I had to use kind of a glitch of enemy movement though! ) The mechanics where some enemy put virus on your gears so you have to constantly disinfect them to stop the virus spreading is fantastic. Inside the digital world of the server, everything is so analog. It's a fantastic rendition of cyber world adventure. Such a fantastic work of an art by guys at Monolith. I've just finished it but I just want to play it through one more time. Definitely a gem from a bygone era we should preserve.

The Best Tron game. A very unique FPS, disk gameplay is unique, pretty good story(sad it isn't canon), and a overall very immersive experience. Graphics may be outdated by modern standards, but the visuals are very recognizable, unique and aged very well. Many references to the 82 movie too! This feels like a love letter to the franchise. Worth every cent.

BUT, i might add that the game has some problems with crashing when you try to load a save and simply not taking screenshots(?)

The game is fun. I can't really say I enjoyed the levels as they are all LED, but for that time there were some good physics and just the concept of aware AIs within the simulated world is intriguing. While the game doesn't explain the world of a simulation and just proposes the SCI-FI theory, the gameplay where you ride a bike and trap the enemy is somehow fun. If you really like the movie scenes where they train models within this simulated cage, then this is it!

This game has a special place for me. As an older gamer, the original TRON movie came out when I was 7. The visual effects where so stunning back then at a time when literally nothing else like it existed. When I was 10 it was shown on TV and I recorded it on a VHS tape. I must have watched it a dozen times. The film didn't just transport Jeff Bridges into a computer, but also audiences into a new era of effects and style. That style is brilliantly captured in TRON 2.0. Not just the look but the feel. They really nailed it. The artistic license they took with some of the weapons, sounds and environments all feels like it could have been in the original film. As a result the game has a very timeless aspect to it and ages very well.

The only area they dropped the ball is the voice acting. It's very bland and feels like pretty generic stuff from 2003, particularly the voice of the main character, Jet. But some of the "computer-y" voices are low-effort voice modulation and voice sythesizer stuff.

In terms of gameplay, this is a solid B-tier FPS game, and I don't mean that in a bad way. That era gave us games like Half Life 2, Unreal Tournament 2004, Halo series and F.E.A.R., and this is a notch below those. It's solid, fun and competent, but not 10/10. Yet for the various weapons you can choose, they implemented the disc mechanic superbly, and frankly, that's the one that matters. It is SO fun chucking that thing around or bouncing it off a wall to hit a bad guy. They wisely made the other weapons to fill niche situations (like snipering) but you'll use the disc the most because it's just so much fun.

The story is also not among the very best of the era but it's straightforward good vs evil stuff which mixes in enough tech jargon and internet memes (of the time) to satisfy the game's theme. With over 20 years since it's release, it's also quaintly dated, with references to PDAs (personal digital assistants, which pre-dated smart phones) and l33t speak. Both which are largely now relics, but as a career tech guy always make me smile with a bit of nostalgia. So there are aspects of this game which feel timeless and others which feel a bit dated, and yet it all still works and feels great.

The characters could have been more fleshed out, and especially the villains. Ma3a, who is sort of a copy of Halo's Cortana, is your in-game companion and alleviates the sometimes isolating feel of the game. Still, she's no Cortana, and in fact I think the game would have been better with a digital female sidekick than a mostly disembodied female voice.

The last thing to say about the game relates to good old Father Time. Originally designed around lower resolutions and in 4:3 aspect ratio (this game came out a few years before the transition to widescreens), some of the fonts are too small and the game has been an off and on challenge to run on newer hardware. But between fan patches and official updates I've never not been able to get it to run. Just know that it can sometimes be a little fussy.

Flaws aside, this game is always a joy to revisit every few years. There were some absolutely towering games of that era that I think pushed this one to the side, so it's kind of a hidden gem. The true strength of TRON 2.0 is in its style and aesthetic that feel brimming with passion for the source material and if you're a fan of that you will not be let down.

Tron 2.0 maybe non-canon in Disney's eyes, but the Tron Fandom is canon, since it really doesn't clash with Tron: Legacy. The combat, story, music, and looks of the game is fantastic, if you are good at first person shooters and Golden Eye 007, and a fan of Tron, this game is amazing. Plus Jet is almost on par with Sam Flynn, both smart computer nerds with complicated relationship with their dad, lost their moms, and explore the Grid.
I highly recommend the game, 100%, same for installing Killer App Mod, so the game can perform better.

being a long time Tron fan, ever since I was introduced to when I was 5, and then growing up to see both Legacy in theaters, and even Ares, being able to play any game that puts you onto the grid is awesome, the soundtrack is very atmospheric, and perfectly replicates the feel of the first movie. succeeding as a proper sequel, (especially if Disney still kept this cannon.) combat is nice, with each weapon being useful in any situation, and preferred playstyle. even down to your abilities being able to swap around parts to your liking. Character designs are top notch, from the programs who look just like they came from the first movie, to even to the main character with his more next gen look.

Lightcycles races are also pretty well done in this game, though it is common knowledge to people who have played this game, know that the computer opponents are very tough, even on lower difficulties. My only criticism is that the difficulty spike is very sudden and a little inconsistent, parts in the middle of the game would suddenly be very difficult and frustrating, but then towards the end of the game it becomes a little bit easy.

other than that, if you love Tron, or want to try out other first person story based shooter games, then this is a pretty good one to play.

I won't lie, the gameplay is nothing out of the ordinary from the fps-adventure genre popular at the time of release (2003), although the weapons and enemies have interesting and sometimes frustrating tactics. It can be unforgivingly difficult compared to newer games like the DOOM revamp series. Fortunately, quick-save and load takes a couple seconds on modern PCs....use it often. The real value is the look and style which is still amazing and gorgeous to this day, and the immersive dedication to the original film. You must run the killer-app mod to run it with modern widescreen and higher resolutions. Not too difficult and definitely worth it.

This is a game for a very specific kind of Tron fan who has only seen the first movie and also really likes having their time wasted.

If you like anything created for the franchise from Legacy onwards or just harbour any amount of respect for yourself skip this one and just play Identity and Catalyst.

It's not awful there's just not a lot going on and it's all pretty null and void within the continuity since Legacy paves over almost everything that happens in it's story. Interesting look into an alternate version of what the Tron franchise might have looked like but the Tron franchise no longer looks like this and frankly it's a lot easier on the eyes that way.

Really good level design for the most part. I will admit, towards the end it got a little worse but it was still fairly straightforward.

Story was fantastic. Really good bridge between Tron Classic and Legacy. I'm also glad that it elaborated more on Alan's story. I think Sam and Jet could've been friends. I also like the fact that you can get a lot of the outside story from the emails you can collect. I'm sure I missed a few but it was nice getting any info

The Voice actors absolutely killed it. I'm so glad that they got BBox and Cindy Morgan back for the game!!! It's just nice to hear her voice again since she passed. I wish I could've met her and picked her brain about Tron generally. You can also tell, Bruce really enjoys Alan as a character.

I do also deeply enjoy that in the credits, if you pay attention, the lightcycle racers you went up against earlier are all named after the people who tested and made the game.

Developer Monolith surprised everyone with a FPS game, that also let's you use your disc and has Tron lightcycle races, which are fun on their own! The game is dripping of original Tron movie vibes. The story is great. The atmosphere incredible. The visuals - to this day - are stunning!

A great action-adventure game and one of the '100 best games' classics.

This is my favorite FPS of all time. It's a shame that it hasn't been remastered for modern systems...or turned into a movie. A friend of mine was a beta tester for this game way back when. When he finished, he received a copy of the game and gave it to me (he said that he'd played more than enough of it). Having played this game from beginning to end at least a dozen times, I have yet to have played it enough. Most of my playthroughs have been on an install of the original copy I received - installed long ago and copied from machine to machine. While Steam only shows 2.3 hours, it's because I bought the Steam version to have a copy just in case my old copy is ever lost or damaged. For those new to this game, here's some important information to know: this game is pretty old school - it doesn't support wide screen and certainly doesn't support ultra-wide screen. You can use the Killer App Mod to force it to support 16:9, but it'll just stretch the 4:3 image, rather than providing proper 16:9. I recommend playing in 4:3 so everything looks right. You still might want to check out the Killer App Mod for some of the other fixes and adds it provides. Focus on maxing your energy first - energy is the most important thing you can have as it'll allow you to fire your higher power weapons more and you'll be able to open some containers that require a lot of energy to open - some of those containers will provide new or better weapons/mods earlier than you will find them otherwise. Each "special" weapon has a use - basically some enemy or point in the game where that weapon will excel for the scenario you are working through. Not every encounter/scenario will have a weapon that is "best" for it, though - there are far more encounters/enemies/areas than there are weapons. You'll definitely want to have the sniper rifle upgraded pretty well at one point in the game (I'd recommend focusing on it once you get it, so you're ready when it's really needed). If, after you've finished the game, you want more but you don't want to replay the game, go find User Error. If you liked the original movie, this will take you back to the grid and show it in a way that the movie did not. Rather than only sneaking through the back areas of the grid, you will also get to explore the grid proper, seeing and exploring new locations that make the grid feel alive. The final boss can be very difficult but is a well thought out and implemented final encounter - if you're struggling with the final boss keep these tips in mind: (1) your decontamination/de-corruption ability will serve you VERY well here - the more upgraded it is, the more manageable the fight will be / (2) you should have at least 2 or 3 of the special weapons upgraded to max or near max - without decent hitting power, you're going to be at a severe disadvantage / (3) the fight is in three phases - if you do well in a phase, quick save so you can reload at that point rather than fighting any previously completed phases / (4) if you are struggling in a phase, switch up your tactics - use a different set of weapons, or try them in a different order / (5) when anything gets infected, fix it (or at least remove/swap it) immediately before the corruption spreads / (6) don't have all your armor equipped at the beginning of the fight - you'll definitely be swapping/de-corrupting armor parts during the fight, so it's good to always have a couple pieces ready to be swapped in for other parts that need to be pulled out due to corruption. Don't give up - if you need to take a break, do it. If you end up loving the game and wanting to play it over in the future, there's no shame in skipping the final boss or the light cycle races on replays - but you *should* try to finish them at least once - especially the final boss, just to see the end of the story.

There was a time when 3D was popular and I first played this on a 55" DLP TV with TriDef 3D and the DLP active glasses. I have to say, this game is awesome in 3D. Today we don't have the same tech for 3D like we once did, but this game is still awesome! The beauty of the graphics is true to the game. The experience of being in the system is a great way to feel like you're in that reality. A fan of the movies will find this game fun.

Tron 2.0 is a FANTASTIC and criminally underrated game.

As soon as I opened the game, I was immediately drawn in by the aesthetic of the digital world and how it was an incredible evolution from what was seen in the original movie. It looked recognizable, yet it also noticeably did its own, very interesting thing. Apparently, the developers kept unused concept art from the 1982 film in mind, which is likely a major contributing factor. The environment was very well crafted! Each area in the game felt distinct and unique, yet the aesthetic was still consistent throughout.

I really enjoyed the gameplay, although it takes a beat to get used to. It's really fun! I love the lightcycle segments! My only complaint is that I wish there were more.

I thought the characters were really cool! Jet Bradley and Mercury were really good additions to this franchise. I love them both! I thought Jet was a strong leading character and I liked his dynamic with his father Alan. I thought Mercury was a really good supporting character but I wish we had seen more of her.

I'd love to see a remaster of this game at some point, as although it was easily playable, some parts of it were slightly clunky on modern hardware. I'd also love for Disney to acknowledge this game or at least some of the characters in it again, as I feel like nobody talks about this game nearly as much as they should!

Very fun FPS that serves as a cool non-canon sequel to the 1982 Tron film. Must play for any Tron fan, and also just a good game for any FPS fan to check out. It has a fantastic aesthetic that really immerses you into feeling like you are in a computer world and the gameplay matches that sensation as well. The game has a big emphasis on exploring the environment for upgrades and lore, and the combat with all the different weapons is very entertaining. Highly recommend!

Really good game! The atmosphere is perfect and it fits neatly with the Tron movies timeline.
For me, the best part is that the game is really accessible. If you are not interested or not skillful enough to beat the light cycle rounds, you can skip those without any detriment to the story.

I thought I would be biased, that the rose-tinted glasses of tiny me playing the game would eventually fade, that this game, like many others, was only good in my memory...
BUT NO!!! NO! It is as good as I remember... MAYBE EVEN BETTER!
A simple 10 hours adventure in a computer with interesting gun(disk?)play, very solid RPG mechanics, a good story, good performances from characters, the music slaps.. No really a very solid game...
What? 10 euros? WITHOUT a discount? Really? At this price it may be one of the best games you could play in this genre... And if you like Tron, the only good game!

Really these Monolith guys have done quite an impressive work, especially for 2003. I hope they are still around doing great and innovative games..........

This is great if you fancy a quick hit of early 2000s FPS game goodness (I recently replayed the Star Trek Elite Force games and it weirdly reminds me a lot of those) but *oof* this throws so much jargon at you that it feels like reading the Netrunner card game instruction manual backwards. It's fun for a bit but it has many, many frustrating elements (I know that I don't have the patience to push through and finish it) so maybe get it only if it's on sale.

It runs just fine for me in 2025 and I've got no technical issues whatsoever.

This might be the greatest game I've bought for only $10. Absolutely recommend buying it. sadly, multiplayer no-longer works unless you download a mod, But other than that, It runs fine, and plays pretty decent. Sometimes the enemies can spawn in weird spots, and you might fall into a pit a few times, but I'd recommend buying it.

Блин, это невероятно недооценëнная конфета 2003 года. В ней очень классный сюжет, столько интересных деталей, что просто разрывает. Очень понравилась музыка, которая веет Вэнди Карлос, + мелькают темы из первого ТРОН, да и многие звуковые эффекты взяты из первого ТРОН. Очень классное развитие внутренней вселенной, поведение программ, их диалоги это что-то с чем-то. Игра веет духом ТРОНа 1982 года и является идеальным продолжением, в котором появилось океан нововведений во вселенной, которые позже легли на другие крупные проекты. Прокачка очень интересная и необычная, такого ни в одной игре не встречал, когда твои усилители заражают и ты их обеззараживаешь и апгрейдишь своего Джета под тот или иной уровень, когда есть ограничения и расставляешь бусты умом, также бусты можно апгрейдить уменьшая их вместимость в диске прокачки и повышая их эффективность.

Да, игра неканонична к ТРОН: Наследию, но Наследие очень много чего взяла из этой игры, также до сих пор из этой игры проекты по франшизе черпают идеи и влияние ТРОН 2.0 не потеряно и я этому очень сильно рад.

Это пока что мой самый любимый проект во вселенной и я очень жалею, что не ознакомился с этим золотом раньше.

Wesentlich besser als der neue Film "Tron: Ares"!

Das Gameplay ist ein bisschen veraltet (man muss viel mit Quicksave arbeiten, der Fallschaden ist extrem und die Lightcycle-Races sind gefühlt nur mit Glück zu schaffen - können aber zum Glück übersprungen werden),
aber ansonsten ist es Großartig:
Überzeugenderes Setting, passende Grafik, bessere Story.
Und, falls wichtig: auch komplett in Deutsch vertont
(mit insgesamt 5 Synchronsprechern für alles ;-) )

Trotzdem:
Für mich der wahre zweite Teil zum originalen TRON-Film.

A must-play for TRON fans, but not for everyone else.

I played using the Killer App mod, which enables widescreen and upgraded textures.

The developers perfectly captured the original movie’s visual style and atmosphere, and missions stay fresh with classic light cycle combat, puzzles, platforming, and even a short tower defence section.

Disk combat is unique, fun, and supported by a smart mod system with corruption mechanics that add tension, since damaged mods could spread corruption if not fixed. While there are multiple weapons, the disk is the most powerful and true to TRON.

My main issue is that the disk often takes too long to return, leaving you defenceless for several seconds.

TRON 2.0 is an absolute gem of a game that holds up brilliantly despite releasing over 22 years ago at the time of this review. Engaging combat, varied environments, an intriguing plot that is supplemented through in-game lore entries, and much more helps solidify TRON 2.0 as the best TRON game of all time, and arguably the best thing that's come from the TRON property, including the movies.

That being said, the game's age does necessitate the use of a community mod by the very talented LSDO team in order to work with widescreen resolutions. Additionally, the framerate needs to be capped to under 100 via a program like RivaTuner in order to prevent bugs with the game's audio mixing. However, both of these tweaks are simple enough and well worth the hassle for what is an incredible experience that engrosses you in the world of TRON.

Note: Due to how the game launches, Steam playtime (at least for me) is not reflective of my actual playtime, which I'm guessing is about 8-10 hours for my 100% playthrough.

I am an old fart. I played this when it came out.

It holds up surprisingly well i think. The stylized graphics are timeless to a degree. Its been long enough that i remember nothing at all.
If state of the art graphics are not everything for you then pick this up during a sale. It is very unlikely you will be disappointed.

Community discussions suggest compatibility issues with modern windows versions. You might want to read up on that if this might affect you. Running on Linux using Proton works out of the box.

Muy buen juego que ya disfruté en su momento y que no ha envejecido nada mal. Recuerda mucho a lo que luego sería un Bioschok o un Dishonored (salvando las distancias por la muy diferente ambientación) o incluso los Assassin Creed, entrando a formar parte de un mundo digital. Debe ser de las pocas veces que además se ha adaptado fielmente una película...de hecho, es curioso porque al final este videojuego está basado en una película pero a la vez ha dado lugar a otra película que, a su vez, inspiran otros videojuegos...todo ello con un universo basado precisamente en ser parte de un videojuego/sistema informático. Vamos, que es el metajuego por definición.

En cuanto al juego en sí, es bastante vertiginoso y entretenido. Elegir las habilidades que mejor se adapten a tu juego le da ese puntito de rol que le hace destacar y no convertirse en un simple mata-mata. La ambientación está muy lograda, lo cual se ve reforzado por la banda sonora, que le pega todo.

En definitiva, juego no demasiado complicado pero que te hará pasar un muy buen rato entre bits. Recomendable a pesar del tiempo que tiene.

A great example of a console FPS game of the mid-2000s done right. There are some little gameplay foibles and dated elements that should in theory make the game annoying and clunky, but somehow it all just works and immerses you into the surreal digital world. Lots of variety in this game going on, and it doesn't always hit, but it's a fun ride.

The demo of this game was tortuously hard on the original Xbox, so it's really cathartic to finally trounce this thing on hard with the help of keyboard and mouse 20 years later.

The light immersive sim aspects of being able to upgrade and pick your software (which manifests as passive buffs, abilities, and even the game's weapons) are pretty fun and give you some options on tailoring to a playstyle, although you'll quickly realise the game isn't all that balanced (stealth isn't very good with enemies that aggro if they so much as glimpse you, and the corrosion ability is useless). I quite like that the more you upgrade a piece of software, the less space it takes up in the skill slots, so you are actually sort of rewarded for focusing on your favourites as you end up with more space to play with other bits of software. I also just want to say the fall damage is some of the most annoying I've witnessed in a game recently, and you will just straight up die a lot of the time if you fall more than like four times your height. A real indicator of the times, and the game would have greatly benefited from it just not being in.

The weapons are varied and fun to use, and I do respect any game that withholds the obligatory automatic weapon until later into the game. I've always loved the incredibly cool LOL sniper rifle from the demo, but I especially love the Prankster Bit that's basically the 'BFG' of the game, which stuns and deletes tonnes of enemies at once. People will tell you that the game is entirely playable with the disk, but every now and again it goes completely AWOL for ages, leaving your arms outstretched in an expression that reads “where the ♥♥♥♥ is my disk”, which I found a bit annoying. It's definitely feasible but I doubt I would have found it fun.

I like the approach to storytelling in this game, even if the resultant story isn't really that interesting all things considered – in particular, finding emails which describe what is going on in the outside world while you're stuck on the computer. There's twists, changes of alliances, some emotional moments, corporation bad... yeah... the amount of computing and networking puns will have you perpetually groaning all throughout though.

The graphics are cool with the emphasis on polygonal lines, which means that the game always looks clean and sharp. Lots of cool effects and shaders and stuff and lovely skyboxes. It's nice to look at! I was worried that I would get tired of how the game looks but they do a good job of making areas look different beyond colours.

I think that any FPS nutter who has their mind open to slightly dated gameplay elements should give this one a go. It does also give credence to the thought that console FPS game design philosophies weren't always that bad back in the day.

For a game released in 2003 it still plays great.

After a complete playthrough, i've noticed crashes by quick loading the game and some weird fps drops in some open areas with a lot of effects. Other than that? Perfect. On the Deck, power consumption is usually bellow 8 watts and runs at 90 fps (apart from what i've wrote back there).

To fully enjoy the game, one must install the "Unofficial Patch v1.042" and the "Killer App Mod".
Following reddit user /u/soupcanx instructions (albeit with slight changes):
1. Install TRON 2.0
2. Install Protontricks
3. Copy the "Unofficial Patch v1.042" and "Killer App Mod" installers to steam deck
4. Open Protontricks and select TRON 2.0
5. Chose "Run Explorer" (for me it only appeared after choosing install components and pressing back)
6. Double click on the unofficial patch and install
7. Run TRON 2.0 at least once (from the launcher to the game main menu) and exit
8. Right click on the killer app installer and select run with Protontricks then select TRON 2.0 and install

light cycle battles were very jarring though. you will spend much time in a first-person platformer and then suddenly put into a third-person rigid movement snake game. other than that downside, i can see myself playing this again in the future
