Growing up this was one of the best games I had ever played.
Free to play, constant everchanging matches made it feel both challenging and enjoyable at the same time.
In this world of remaking games over and over again I cling to the hope that they one day decide to revive you dear friend, to bring you to the light and restore you to the glory you once had.

Шутер, где все не ходят, а летают, скользят и носятся так, что аж дух захватывает. Поначалу чувствуешь себя как корова на льду: пытаешься разобраться, как правильно разгоняться и парить, а тебя уже десять раз успели взорвать. Но когда наконец «щёлкает» - начинается настоящая феерия: ты летишь над картой, стреляешь, уворачиваешься, и кажется, будто управляешь не персонажем, а гоночным болидом с пушкой. Игра безумно динамичная, командная, и каждая катка - это хаос, драйв и куча эмоций. Очень жаль, что её больше нет в Стиме.
И если этот обзор наберёт 50 лайков и 10 наград - куплю все дополнения и сыграю 100 часов. Улучшу значок до 5 уровня и схожу в монастырь помолиться за разрабов…

This game was incredible fast paced and incredibly rewarding when you get a good kill.
I don't know how many hundred probably thousands of hours I've spent on this game (before it was on Steam) all the way since Beta.
Class selection balanced your objectives and game-play very well... then it suffered the "Out-of-the-blue update" and all of that was gone.
The game server is down and the developers have moved on with new crimes of video games.
There is some way you can mod it to play again if you really want to.

launched game today to play a real 360 degree FPS and where did the servers go? wanted to check what was happening after coming back. what happened? loved this game as it was easy pickup and go with real world areans.

This FPS game was pretty decent for a free to play game back in the day. Shame that Hi-Rez stopped supporting it.
Probably the best FPS I ever got to experience. I originally tried it on a whim back in 2011 and it soon became a memorable favorite. I have way more hours logged than what Steam reports, as I'd clocked most of it on the stand alone game launcher.
T:A was clever in how it broke up classes where each had an option for defensive, offensive or runner roles. And no class choice in particular became oversaturated. Team composition almost always fell to a healthy mix of the different roles.
The jet skiing made up T:A's backbone as unique among shooters. I don't think I'll ever find anything quite like it, the perfect fit for a capture-the-flag focused game. Skiing was such a natural way to move about the maps.
Unfortunately, the player base began to fall off by 2015 and their push for e-sports attraction never really took off. This game probably fell victim to one of its greatest traits. The demographics so accustomed to the Halo's and the Call of Duty's of the world may have been put off by the novelty of jet skiing.
This feels less like writing a review and more like writing an epitaph. Tribes Ascend was a ghost town the last time I'd logged in and that was roughly a decade ago. Maybe one day there will be a revival.

I sit here at 2:56 a.m. on a Tuesday night looking for a game to bring me some level of joy or excitement. Every time I cross this in my library I feel a deep emotion of sadness. This game was too good for its day, now it will be lost to the sands of time.
The speed and movement was unlike any other game, titanfall was close but skiing in tribes was just too good. It felt so nice every single time you hit the slopes perfectly and sent yourself miles high at 5 bagillion mph, not to mention landing a shot at such a velocity. Even missing was fun, just seeing how close your shot got to the enemy. If there was any game that needed to be revived, its this one.
I hope I can play this game again sometime, it was unlike any other. May holy light shine on the developers of this game.

This game is dead now, but I've never had more fun with a multiplayer game than 8v8 T:A matches with teammates that are actively playing alongside you. RIP.

Tribes ascend was a great game that was poorly mistreated and mishandled by a company that doesn't understand what it takes to support a game like this. They tried it again and they failed again. Hi-Rez is truly insane, trying the same thing over and over and over again and expecting different results.
It's not this game's fault that it was born to what is effectively an abusive household, it deserved better.

Played back in 2014 and enjoyed it in a way... it was definitely one of the more unique, acquired taste shooters + I sucked + the player base was already dwindling.
It's not for me, but I'd recommend everyone to at least give it a try... if it wouldn't be literally dead
Would give it a neutral/mixed thumb but Steam doesn't have it.

Joguinho legal, fiquei surpreso em ver que é do mesmo studio de palladins e smite, o estilo não parece muito. Esse aqui é bem futurista, mais FPS e numa pegada meio quake e Halo ao mesmo tempo, joguei pouco e acabou não me prendendo devido principalmente ao tamanho enorme dos mapas.
Mas de graça vale a pena baixar e conhecer, não sei se ainda tem servers online hoje em dia.

Just to clarify, this game has been dead for years. Nobody is playing it and you shouldn't buy it. It's just that this game is unique and I wanted to write about it.
Edit: Apparently it's free to play, so maybe there's a community server somewhere out there in the void of space you can still play on. Dunno.
Every player in this game is given a skateboard and a pair of jet boots. You are dropped off a ledge and you slide around on slopes and over/under unique structures. You strategically use your jet boots to leap over obstacles and build additional speed, launching shots at enemy players blasting through the air doing the same thing. It's like hockey, but cross country and the primary objective is to launch hockey pucks into other players craniums, instead of a neat bonus.
I haven't seen a game like it since then and it's a genuine tragedy.

It's genuinely one of the most baffling things in the entire history of gaming that Smite is so consistently not-awful. Because Hi-Rez... has bad leadership. The top corporate leadership are so bad at their jobs that it transcends to them being kinda awful people, who do awful things to their own products and customer bases.
Tribes: Ascend was a cool game, but it and its genre had their time, and one way or another that time is over. I do appreciate how much I enjoyed the genre and how it unmistakably and permanently influenced FPS on the whole.
